What Are the Side-Effects of Wisdom Teeth Extraction?

There are numerous problems that can arise following the removal of wisdom teeth. A common complication is dry socket, an unpleasant problem that develops in the days after extraction. The cause of dry socket is when either the clot fails to form effectively around the wound, or the clot forms but is shed prematurely. Therefore the actual wound is ‘dry’. The bone is uncovered, which can result in a fair degree of pain.

Any dry socket commonly comes from the second day after wisdom teeth removal. The pain from it may spread out from the area and even to your ears. One can notice a bad taste in the mouth and also halitosis. Dry socket is a lot more likely to occur when you smoke within 24 hours of extraction, or if you do not keep to the after-care information your dental-care professional gives.

If you feel you do have the problem, go to your dentist. The socket has to be washed free of any kind of debris. The dentist will then administer some sort of dressing to alleviate your pain and reduce the inflammation in the socket.

Aside from dry socket, there are other possible complications from wisdom tooth extraction. These issues may include extended bleeding, some bruising and infection of the gum around the extraction site. Trauma to your neighboring teeth or alternatively teeth fillings can be a possibility, as is breaking of the roots of the wisdom tooth. If a root breaks, the remaining part of root might be either removed or if it is small it could be left in position. An infection from the bone tissue might set in, but this is rare within healthy people. You may experience some jaw pains and tightness also.

Other side effects might include: Nerve injury with resulting pins and needles around that region. This is a rare problem and usually a short-lived problem if it occurs. It can affect feeling through the lower lip and also chin. It could likewise affect taste and feeling from your tongue area. Another problem is jaw bone fracturing through the force applied when removing the tooth. This situation is extremely rare and in most cases only happens in elderly people, prone due to fragile bone and/or bone disease.

Even though long-term side effects are uncommon, you ought to be informed about the dangers. These dangers should be taken into consideration whenever the selection to remove wisdom teeth is made. You may be more prone to certain side-effects, for example neural damage, depending on exactly where a wisdom tooth lies.

To sum up, getting your wisdom teeth removed may include a fair level of minor surgery. As with just about any surgical procedure, there are certain possible complications. These include frequently encountered problems; for instance dry socket, bruising and/or tenderness. There are then the less likely side effects; for instance nerve damage. Your dentist or oral surgeon should tell you of the possibilities and discuss any of the side effects you’re specifically at risk of.

Chess Openings – Sokolsky Opening

Category – Flank Opening

Opening Move Sequence – 1 b4

ECO Codes – A00

The Sokolsky Opening is also called Orangutan Opening (see below for origin of that term) or Polish Opening. It is named after Grand Master Alexei Pavlovich Sokolsky from USSR who wrote a short book on this opening in 1963.

According to chess databases of historical tournament games, Sokolsky Opening is the least popular of the nine playable moves (out of twenty possible moves over all) available to White as first move. In other words it is very rare in tournament play.

While it has failed to be popular through out its history, it has been used by several top chess players sporadically. Examples of such use include the Boris Spassky vs. Vasily Smyslov game during the 1960 Moscow Leningrad match and the Richard Réti vs. Abraham Speijer game held in Scheveningen in 1923. In fact, the name Orangutan Opening came in to being due to such a game. The game was played between Savielly Tartakower and Geza Maroczy in 1924. Grand Master Tartakower, visiting the New York Zoo with other players on the previous day, allegedly consulted an orangutan for the next day’s opening move.

Sokolsky Opening is classed with Flank Openings or Irregular Openings which start with moves other than 1.e4 or 1.d4. It has been categorized under A00 code in the Encyclopedia of Chess Openings or ECO codes. A00 also include other rare openings.

Moves and Variations

1 b4

The whole idea of this uncommon opening is based on certain tactical considerations regarding f6 and g7 squares as well as the Queen-side in general.

After 1.b4, Black can reply in number of ways.

Black can stake a claim to the center as dictated by classical opening principles (the very principles that White has flouted in making the move 1.b4). This can be done with 1…d5, 1…e5 or 1…f5. In case of 1.b4 d5, game may continue with 2.Bb2 Qd6 which threatens b4 pawn and supports the potential central pawn advance e5. If 1.b4 e5 is played, White usually will not take any notice of the threat to b4 from Bishop at f8. White will continue with the intended fianchetto: Bb2. As a result, Black gets the following options as second move: 2…d6, 2…f6, and 2…Bxb4

Also possible are 1…Nf6, 1…c6, or 1…e6. 1…c6 aims for …Qb6 and a5 and is called the Outflank Variation. 1…e6 aims for moves …d5, …Nf6 and finally for …c5.

Other more atypical replies for Black include 1…a5 or 1…c5. In case of 1.b4 a5, White will play 2.b5 to exploit the Black’s weakness in Queen-side that resulted from 2…a5. Because of this, 1…c5 is considered better for Black. 1…c5 can also be used to avoid the book moves tied to other responses. After bxc5, Black will attack the pawn on c5 and then start an attack against the White’s now weak Queen-side pawns.

10 Years Of Looking At The Hole While Putting

I have been using this method of looking at the hole for “Putting” for the past 10 years and for me there is no better way!

I first started using this unique putting method after reading a book by Tim Gallwey called the Inner Game of Golf. Still my favourite book on “How to take your golf game to the course”.

There are some significant benefits to this putting method of looking at the hole…..

1.Your head remains’s still as your eyes are looking directly at your target…..there is no need to take a peep!!!

2.You have a clear sense of direction

3.Since you are not looking at the ball there are no mental blocks or fear of making a fluent stroke

Golf is one of the few targeting type sports where you don’t actually look at your target while perfoming the action to hit the target. Sports such as basketball, darts, baseball, and bowling or rely on you focussing on a target. Whatever you are focussing on your body will do it’s best to perform the necessary action of hitting that particular target.

When I first tried this putting style I concentrated on using my hands and wrist’s to make the stroke. If I were to be totally honest my putting during this transitional stage was as good as any golfer at my club. Most of my playing partners could not believe I could sink putts by looking at the hole. What astounded them was the amount of long distance putts I dropped…..they could understand how this technique would work for the short putts but NOT the long putts.

Some were even moved to say that it was cheating and the technique or method should be banned…..this only happened in “Match Play” when I would sink putt’s to win the hole or the match. When you do something different that works people notice and I have to laugh when they say “I see it but I don’t believe it”.

Since becoming an accredited PuttingZone coach I have incorporated the use of the shoulder’s and NOT the hands into my putting routine of looking at the hole. This one change has allowed me to make more birdies than I ever made before.

I did a bit of research on “putting while looking at the hole” and I was absolutely stunned to find that Golf Magazine had published an article by David Dusek (Deputy Editor,Golf.com) on this very subject. They actually published result’s of a research study carried out by Eric Alpenfels(Golf Magazine top 100 teacher) and Dr Bob Christina. They tested 40 players with handicaps ranging from 8-36.

When asked to putt while looking at the hole to distances of 28-43 feet the average length of the putt’s ended up 28 inches short…….when asked to putt normally the golfers left themselves short by 37 inches. That extra 9 inches can make the difference between 2 putt’s and 3 putt’s.

So what can I say……looking at the hole while putting is a very viable proposition for golfer’s who have an open mind to making positive changes in their putting.

Use Track Lights For Accent Or Task Illumination

Track lights are primarily used as a form of accent lighting or task lighting. They are part of a lighting system that are used to accentuate a painting or feature wall in the house or provide plenty of light for doing a task. They are often used in areas of the home such as the kitchen, study room, family room or the games room.

Track lights can instantly change the feel of any room in your home. You can use it as an accent light on your favorite picture frames, plants, books, vases, and antiques. You can wash the walls with light in your living room to give generous illumination or give it just a soft glow. Mounting these lights above your home office desk, library bookshelves, kitchen island, kitchen sink or billiard table will give you bright, task lighting. You can also use them to add a play of light and shadow around your fireplace, or to brighten up a dark corner of your entry hall.

Find Out Your Lighting Needs First

Before you go out and buy those track lights, you will need to be very clear about your lighting needs. Do you need dramatic accent lighting, practical task lighting, general lighting, or supplementary lighting? Have you decided where to put your light fixtures and measured how far they would be from your electrical power source?

What style of metal tracks will blend with the decor of the room? Will subtle track lighting with tracks that fade into the ceiling be more appropriate? Do you want to pick tracks that match the color of the ceiling? Do you want to downplay your tracks with thin cable wires? Or does the room call for a thicker track with a bolder look?

Choosing the Right Type

Another important consideration is choosing the right type of track lights. If the need is for general lighting, then you might want to go for pendant fixtures and incandescent lights. If you want to focus on artwork or the design elements in the room, then halogen may be the answer. Some of the more popular lighting designs use halogen spots to liven up a room or object of art.

If you want intense light while you work, then fluorescent bulbs may be your best bet. You can also mix and match your light bulbs. For example, mixing compact fluorescent light bulbs with traditional bulbs can be the perfect compromise between elegance and energy conservation. Choosing light heads with colorful glass covers or metal boxes can also make an impact.

Home Lighting – Types and Fixtures

Home lighting has become a crucial aspect of the home decor. It conveys warmth and sets the mood of the home. This article brings out the various types of lighting in the home, and the light fixtures which can be used for each type.

There are basically three types of lighting seen in most of the homes: ambient lighting, task lighting and accent lighting.

Ambient lighting is that which provides general illumination to the entire room. It may be used specifically to enhance wall colors. Some of the fixtures that can be used to provide ambient lighting in the home are described below:

1. Uplights/Torchiere lamps: These are fixtures which direct the light in the upward direction, and hence can be used to create a soft and diffused light.

2. Wall sconces: These are light fixtures mounted on the walls, and provide a subtle background light . Hence, these can be used for ambient lighting.

3. LED Spotlights: These are popularly used to give walls and ceilings a beautiful look. A “party mood” can be produced by using high power wash lights or glass filters, which “bathe” the walls in different colors.

4. Recessed lights: Also called Downlights or Can Lights, these are installed into a small opening in the ceiling and project their light in the downward direction, which is diffused throughout the room. As they take up little or no ceiling space, they help to conserve space. They can be used in narrow and dark rooms, such as in bathrooms and near staircases.

Task lighting is the lighting aimed at doing a particular task like reading, cooking or eating. This should necessarily be glare-free and the light needs to be focused on a specific area. The light fixtures which serve the purpose may include:

1. Table lamps: These are the light fixtures, which are commonly used to provide task lighting, as they focus light directly where it is needed.

2. Wall sconces: These can be placed on either side of a mirror to minimize shadows, for tasks such as shaving and combing.

3. Pendant: A ceiling pendant above the dining area can be used to provide the lighting required for eating purposes.

Accent Lighting is a type of focused lighting that is used to accentuate any artwork, painting, or a piece of sculpture. This is three times as bright as ambient lighting. The fixtures commonly used to create accent lighting in the home include the following:

1. Spotlights: These can be used to illuminate a particular artwork. Track lighting is a lighting arrangement where the light fixtures, such as spotlights, are attached to a single continuous electrical device. This has become a popular method for creating accent lighting.

2. Pendants: Glass pendants or chandelier pendants, hung from the ceiling, can be used to focus attention on the desired objects.

Indoor plants can also be highlighted with artificial lighting that do not emit heat and are waterproof. An accepted choice is to use uplights, which have reflectors for indirect lighting. A relatively new option is to go for a solar-powered pot, where a solar cell placed in the pot charges with the sun’s energy during the day and makes the pot glow at night. HPS (high pressure sodium) bulbs can be used for lighting the home garden.

Some rooms in the home may need all types of lighting, though at various times. For instance, a living room may require ambient lighting for seeing guests or viewing television, task lighting for sewing or reading, and accent lighting for artwork or greenery. In such cases, a dimmer switch can be installed in the room to change the light intensity as per the convenience.

What Are the Barriers to Effective Listening?

Anything that gets in the way of communicating sets up a barrier. Barriers are found in physical situations, attitudes, and behavior.

First let us review physical barriers. These are generally the easiest to deal with. If the distraction to listening is noise you can simply shut the door, turn it down or off, or ask the person/people making noise to cooperate. Sometimes this does not work so then scheduling comes in to play. You can schedule appointments, calls, etc. at a time when there is less interruptions or when it can be controlled. This is especially true with work at home jobs as there can be many distractions like the children, spouse, or even dirty dishes in the sink that are just calling you to do them.

The most difficult physical barrier is a wandering mind while you are listening. Statistics state that the average conversation is around 125 words a minute yet we can think at a rate of 400 to 600 words per minute. Unfortunately this gives us ample time to wander to our thoughts rather than listen.

Attitudes to barriers are the ones you can see. Pretending to listen, no concern for what the person is talking about, and even those that have made up their mind not to listen on the basis of appearance or voice. This usually leads to a pre-judgment and ultimately block the listener out.

Selective listening is when we hear only what we want to and what fits our ideas. We take out only what we want and miss valuable information. This is a big one in relationships and can cause many problems. Make yourself aware of where you tend to selectively listen and take action to do better.

Behavior barriers are both verbal and nonverbal. A good example of a verbal barrier is interrupting the speaker. This is sometimes looked at as being impolite, rude, and even rejection. A parent that interrupts their child may not learn more about what is happening in their life and a salesperson that interrupts may not learn what would help the person to buy. Be careful not to control the conversation.

Nonverbal examples are avoiding eye contact, fiddling with things, sliding down in the chair, and basically just not paying attention. Listening is paying attention so no matter what the barrier is be sensitive to the speaker and show appreciation. Listening is a deliberate skill it is not by chance.

The Used Fireproof File Cabinet – Is it a Good Choice Or Just a Bargain Price

Like most of us I am sure you have many important documents and records that need to be in a fire safe container. I realize in this modern high tech time a lot of the documents are stored in digital format on your computer but please do no lose sight of how they got there. Chances are someone had to transcribe them from a hard copy in the first place. This not only applies to you as an individual but many businesses as well.

There are also many other reasons other than fire for both you and you company to want to protect hard copies of records and documents. Theft is one and there are probably others you may want to conceal or keep private. Regardless of the reason do you feel that they will be safe if your office or building should suddenly be consumed in a hot fire?

If you are at all uneasy about this thought it may be time for you to think about researching the possibility of acquiring a few fire safe containers for those records and documents. There are many options for you when it comes to a fireproof file cabinet with enough heat resistance to preserve most any record in even the hottest fire.

The better units are designed to give off a liquid when it reaches a prescribed temperature and this is what keeps it from overheating to the point your records are destroyed.

One of the most glaring problems facing you is the high cost of this type cabinet, especially if you will need an entire bank of them. It is not unusual for a fire safe unit to cost from $500 to $1500 more than a standard conventional unit.

My first thought in these situations is to consider used and you are probably no different. Most all of us have had a good experience with something used and felt it was a real bargain. But in this case you will want to be sure the units you are considering have not been exposed to a fire because of the chance they might not be good for another one. This is not to say there are not bargains available in the used market but you do need to be sure of its prior history.

With good research you should be able to learn why the previous owner disposed of the units and chances there will be many strictly legitimate reasons and the units may be good as new. Maybe the previous owner went out of business or moved into a new building and wanted all new furnishings. In many of these cases you will have found a bargain and will want to take advantage of it. Just be sure you do enough research prior to giving up you money to be confident that your records will be safe.

Generally most will not recommend a used fireproof file cabinet merely by the nature of the beast but still there may be some excellent bargains to be had.

Fireproof Wall Safes – Unaffected by the Blaze

Safes are basically designed to safeguard its contents from burglary and theft. However with small additions they can be transformed into fireproof wall safes and can help you protect the contents from fire.

Fireproof safes are not only more secure but the difference comes at a small price. Fireproofing between sheets of folded steel lend them an ability to keep out fire. Imagine what would happen if you keep your valuables in form of cash and a fire broke out? What about all the paperwork and documentation which might have to do with various investments? All of it can be gutted in a blaze and opting for a fireproof safe to prevent this from happening seems a reasonable bargain.

When buying a fireproof wall safe make sure that you are buying the genuine thing. Many safes marketed today by companies of very less reputation, are not fireproof at all! Ask your retailer for test results and genuine certified documentation about the qualities of the safe. If possible ask them for test results and even demonstrations. Choosing a known brand keeps you from these troubles, albeit a costlier option. However considering the value of the contents it is going to guard, it’s hardly a price to pay.

Its fireproof capabilities should not be the only deciding factor for you. When buying fireproof wall safes, you must also ensure that its basic function as just a safe is also fulfilled. Choose secure locking systems based on biometric technology. These can be accessed only by you, since it opens on the detection of your face, fingerprints, or retina scans. These ensure that forced entry is not possible into the safe, and the tumbler can’t be adjusted from the outside to pop it open. With keyless entry and no combination locks even the most experienced code breakers can do nothing.

However for a less pricey pick, you can opt for digitally locked safes. These need a character combination to open and though they can be bypassed by experts and through computerized hacking of the code, they can serve as the basic security and keep out common burglars.

Converting To Renewable Energy, Why Aren’t We All?

My big question is this, with all the global warming, ozone depletion, and total crap you see pouring out of chimneys and smokestacks, why aren’t more people converting to some sort of renewable energy? Could it be that their stuck in some sort of comfort zone?, or is it that people are simply just afraid to make any change, be it big or small. I hope people will start taking off those blinders, and soon or we just may not have a place to call home much longer.

I personally don’t understand, what the big deal is, they’ve made converting to renewable energy quite a bit more affordable, it isn’t just for the wealthy anymore, though many of them could give a hoot about the use of any type of renewable energy source. Right now you can go on-line and find any number of alternative energy packages, they offer solar power kits, where you can learn to build and install your very own solar panels, or packages that teach you how to construct yourself a wind turbine, better yet why not build both.

I’ve even found systems out there, that after spending around $100.00, you can build to harness the suns electricity, that were based, on Mr. Nikola Tesla’s idea’s that use static electricity ( like radio and t.v. waves), and require no type of battery backup. This seems like a great way to convert to renewable energy. And did I mention, there’s also another clean energy source I found, that involves using magnets and the magnetic force they create, which creates perpetual motion, and this energy system like all the rest, won’t harm the environment, as an added bonus this one’s also non combustible and non flammable.

Last but not least, we come to the automotive renewable energy factor, there appears to be a couple of different routes to take, when trying to create an environmentally friendly vehicle. And this is converting your candidate to electric, which they claim can be done quite reasonably ( kind of like solar panels for your car), or you can look into a type of water fuel conversion kit that uses a water-fuel mixture to achieve some pretty spectacular results.

So you see, even if you just take a small step, if we all took even a small step, in implementing some type of renewable energy source, the terrible state our world is now in, could quite possibly be paused or better yet reversed. One last critical point I’d like to make, is this, why do or would you want to keep throwing money away, because this is what we’re doing when we continue to pay astronomical prices at the gas pump, making foreign countries and oil companies wealthier by the minute. Let’s not forget those power companies that keep raising their rates as well, enough is enough! The only person that can do anything about this, is we the people, we have to take a stand before it’s too late, before we find ourselves in worse conditions and situations, saying why did this happen!

Best Flooring For High Traffic Areas

The Best Flooring Choices for High Traffic Areas In any interior decorating project, choosing the right flooring can be among the most difficult decisions. This is true for both homeowners and business owners. Choosing the right flooring for heavy traffic areas can be particularly difficult. The flooring used in these areas must be able to withstand all of the “abuse” it will suffer due to the many feet that will walk across it over the course of its lifetime. It should also be easy to clean. After all, heavier foot traffic means a greater likelihood that the flooring will suffer spills, stains, and more.

Of course, there are many different flooring options, including carpet, laminate, tile, wood, and so on. Within each of the major categories of flooring, there are some choices that are quite suitable for high traffic areas. Nevertheless, some flooring materials remain better than others in areas where people and animals will move repeatedly across the floor every day.

The best flooring for high traffic areas is probably tile. Ceramic tile, stone tile, and other tiling materials are incredibly durable and hold up well to high foot traffic. Unless it is made of a highly porous material, tile is also easy to clean with a damp mop. It should be noted, however, that not every type of tile is good for an area that many people walk across. Glossy tiles made of material such as marble can be quite slick when they get wet, increasing the odds that pedestrians will slip and fall. Tile grout may also stain easily if it is not sealed. A darker grout is probably the best flooring for high traffic areas because it will not show spills and stains as easily.

After tile, wood is a good flooring choice for high traffic areas. In addition to adding warmth to a room or building, wood flooring is durable, especially when it is made of a hardwood such as oak or maple. Real wood floors, on the other hand, are very expensive. Furthermore, they can get scratched and scuffed very easily. Therefore, it is probably not a good idea to install them in high traffic areas where heavy items such as furniture are regularly moved across the floor.

Laminate flooring is a wood alternative that, while less expensive than wood, retains many of wood’s benefits. It can also add warmth to a room because it is designed to look like real wood. Laminate can also be quite durable, especially if it is cared for properly. However, this layered flooring material is also susceptible to water damage. Spills must be cleared immediately; otherwise, liquid can soak through the layers of the flooring material and ruin it.

Vinyl flooring can be a good choice for high traffic areas because it is inexpensive and can mimic the look of real ceramic or stone tiles. Usually, it is made of a durable plastic or a plastic composite. However, like various laminates, vinyl can be damaged by water over time. It will usually take longer for such flooring to suffer water penetration and damage, but water that sits on vinyl for lengthy periods of time can warp the vinyl and cause it to pull up from the floor.

One final flooring material that many people consider for high traffic areas is carpet. This flooring is perhaps the least attractive option for high traffic areas because it soils easily. Buying carpets that are stain resistant can help alleviate this problem, but no fiber is completely stain proof. Those who insist on this flooring material for a high traffic area should choose a carpet rated with a performance level of 4 or 5 in order to guarantee that it will hold up well over time.

Lean Thinking, Lean Manufacturing – 5 S

Lean uses the 5S technique to eliminate waste by organizing the workplace. It does not matter whether it is a manufacturing facility spread over many acres or your desk! It is very simple, easy to implement and practical. People can easily see the benefits and the results are usually very quick to realise. There are some people who do not see the benefits of having a tidy desk but most can see the benefits of having a tidy and well ordered manufacturing bench etc. The two are exactly the same, you need to get rid of all the rubbish so that you don’t need to work around it and create a system so that everything has an easily identifiable and accessible place and it stay there.

It should be implemented in manageable sections. Try to identify a natural boundary of say a department, office or work area.

The 5S’s are:

1. Sort

2. Straighten

3. Scrub

4. Systemise

5. Standardize

1. Sort

Fairly straightforward really!

Categorize all of the items in the area into three R categories

Retain-Items that are essential. Regular use and occasional use

Return-Items that belong elsewhere

Rid-Get rid of all other items

2. Straighten

Everything has a place and there is a place for everything. Move items that are used regularly to where they are needed. Place tools etc in places that do not interrupt the flow. Label items and make everything clear.

3. Scrub

Clean the whole area and then really clean the area. Clean tools, paint walls and sweep floors. It is everyone responsibility, clean equipment helps to highlight problems earlier, leaks on hoses (or pens) will show up sooner, plus a clean environment is usually a safer environment!

4. Systemise

Make sure you implement regular cleaning schedules to keep it that way. Have procedures in place to ensure things do not go back to how they were. For instance make sure that non essential items/tools do not creep back into the workspace.

5. Standardise

Make sure that all workstations/workplace follow the same procedure and enforce it. New routines and ways of working need embedding and this can sometimes take a little time.

How to Replace the Tilt Cord or Wand in Horizontal Window Blinds

No matter how good your window blinds are, you are likely going to have to do a simple repair at some point. It has nothing to do with the quality of craftsmanship or the price you pay. Window shades are just like everything else. Sometimes mechanical failure happens. When this happens, you will be prepared.

The Wand or Tilter May Break

Every now and then, the mechanism that allows horizontal window shades to tilt becomes damaged or flat out breaks. When this happens, there is no need to panic and no need to throw away your blinds. Step back, follow these instructions, and your window treatment will function like new in no time at all.

Instructions for Repairing the Wand or Tilter

Once you determine the blinds are broken; you will need to fix it. It doesn’t take long and can be done by anyone. You do not need to call a professional.

1) Start by removing the metal end caps on both sides of the headrail.

a. Headrail: The headrail is at the top of the window blinds and are normally made of metal. Sometimes they are plastic. This is where the controls for the blind or shade is located.

2) Remove the wand or cord tilter by gently pulling on the rod out of the middle.

a. Tilt Cord/Wand: The tilt cord/wand is the mechanism used to twist open the blinds slats for all horizontal blinds.

3) Remove the mechanism from the headrail by gently pushing the mechanism to the right side. This should cause it to “pop” from the headrail.

4) Replace the mechanism with the new or fixed mechanism. Take care that the new mechanism “snaps” back into place at the top of the headrail.

5) Last, replace the tilt rod with the new or fixed rod and replace the end caps.

That is all it takes to fix broken tilt cord or wands. If something does go wrong with your blinds, you now know how to resolve the issue without any problems. The whole process only takes a few minutes and does not require any special tools.

Unfortunately, even though it is simple to do, many people will throw away their perfectly good window blinds because of this. Do not let this happen to you. If something goes wrong with your blinds, check the Internet for a simple solution. Those who do will find their blinds last a very long time.

Review of the Mercedes Benz C 220 Diesel

The newly launched 2015 Mercedes C Class 220 is Mercedes’ second offering in the C Class segment. The C 200, launched last year, was only offered in the Petrol version, but despite that was a big hit.

And a large segment of customers were waiting for this baby Merc to be launched with a Diesel engine. The Diesel engine has been launched in two variants: Style and Avantgarde, with the Style being the lower of the two variants.

Exterior Styling:

This baby Merc takes design inspiration from the uber luxurious S Class and the clean and fluid design reflects the same. The C Class sports striking looks and comes out a winner in the segment against competitors like the Audi A4 and the BMW 3 series.

While the earlier petrol version sports the LED high performance headlamps, the same has been replaced by LED Intelligent light system with variable light distribution, active light distribution, active light function, country and motorway modes as well as cornering light function, enhanced fog light dynamic beam control and a blue welcome light function in the diesel variants. The LED license plate illumination and LED rear lights is a standard across all variants.

The Style variant sports Panaromic sliding sunroof, whereas the Avantgarde variant has an electric sliding sunroof.

Let’s take a look at what differentiates the two variants , Style and Avantgarde from the exterior. The Style version has the top surround of the side windows in matt black whereas the Avantgarde has it in polished aluminium.

The Avantgarde has a lot of additional chrome finishes in places such as the door sill, exhaust system with non visible exhaust tailpipes and the radiator grille with the usual integrated Star emblem with two louvres in Matt iridium Silver comes with a chrome insert whereas the same is not there in the Style.

Features such as beltline trim in polished aluminium, chrome handle strip on bootlid, underbody protection and tinted green glass is a standard across all variants.

Interior Design:

The interiors, at a glance give off a very luxurious feeling with the wood and chrome finishing. Merc has used a high gloss brown line structure lime wood in the Avantgarde, whereas a black piano lacquer finish is used in the Style. However, this is a step down from the walnut wood trim used in the C200 Petrol range. The upholstery comes in ARTICO leather and has two options of black/black or black/silk beige.

Starting from the front, the 3 spoke steering wheel has controls for audio and onboard settings. The entertainment console has an 17.78 cm high resolution multimedia screen which is easy to navigate. We will take a detailed look at the onboard entertainment a bit later. But coming back to interior design, lets again put emphasis on the differentiating factors between the two variants. The Avantgarde has ambient lighting with three colour options, analogue clock in the dashboard, and electric sunblind for the rear window, whereas the same are not available in the Style.

Fit and finish is top of the range with emphasis on minute details like the sliver chrome finish on the air vent adjustment knobs. Front seats have “Cobra look ” and are electrically adjustable. The rear seats has a 40/20/40 split, with double cup holders and stowage compartment in the armrest. The cabin has enough space for storing bottles and other knickknacks as a whole.

The steering column is also manually adjustable for height and reach. An illuminated glove compartment, lighting of footwells, door handle recesses, rear reading lights and courtesy lights in all doors add to the overall bathing in luxury feel.

Comfort, Convenience, Entertainment and Safety

Living upto the Mercedes name the C Class’s diesel offering is high on comfort and convenience. The front and rear passenger is offered a 4 way lumbar support. Automatic Climate Contol with two inbuilt zones and reversing camera are few of the features which enhance the superiority of this car.

Safety measures such as kneebag for drivers, windowbags, ATTENTION ASSIST to detect drowsiness of the dirver are the few noteworthy features apart from the regular safety features which are present across all variants. Several measures are taken to avoid accidents but just in case an accident does occur, Mercedes has a safety feature to protect the occupants post the event also.

The NECK-PRO® head restraints for the driver and front passenger can be activated in a rear impact: a spring mechanism moves the head restraints forwards and upwards; the head can thus be supported earlier and the strain on the spine can be reduced.

It also includes the automatic engine cut-off or the activation of the hazard warning lamps and the emergency interior lighting. The central locking also opens automatically, and crash joints between the door and the wing make it easier to open the doors after an accident.

The Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus controls the light to avoid dazzling oncoming traffic whilst still ensuring that the road remains illuminated perfectly.

Coming to the entertainment unit in the car, it has 2 USB ports in the center armrest for external devices and storage media. Bluetooth interface with HD voice capapble hands free function, cover flow and cover art for displaying album covers, SMS display function, internet capability and whew… as if all this is not enough, it also has a Garmin MAP pilot for navigation. The touchpad with multitouch sensor system is an integral component of the Infotainment system with GARMIN┬« MAP PILOT navigation (3D visualisation). One or two gestures with your fingers – a quick swipe or splay – are all it needs to understand what you want. It can even decipher the letters and numbers traced on the touchpad. Incidentally, the touchpad in the new C-Class is the first ever to be able to control all the functions of an infotainment system based on gestures alone.

Retractable Awnings and Fixed Canopies – A Comparative Study

Easy installation and durability – these two features have made retractable awnings more popular over any other type of sunshades. As the term suggests, you can retract these awnings and have a better control over your sunshade. By folding your awning during harsh weather you simply add to its durability. Top of that retractable awnings are quite easy to install. Do-it-yourself believers can always fit them with the help of installation guide.

Awnings have undergone many changes; like anything else under the sun. They are not like what they used to be earlier. Modern awnings are added with a slew of features that make them almost indispensable for homes and commercial places. Those who are smart would waste no time to make utmost use of modern sunshades.

Here are some points that make retractable awnings unique among all types of shades and curtains. A comparative study of various functionalities of both modern retractable sunshades and fixed canvases shows the secrets of retractable awnings.

Clear view:

Fixed canopies and canvases often stand as obstacles for you eyes when you try to look at outside. Materials used for fixed sunshades block your view and hamper the scenic beauty of the place. Drop curtains made of opaque materials can be blamed with same point.

Retractable awnings are basically hanging in nature; they are suspended structure held by arms or wires. Hence they do not obstruct views; you can sill look at the outside from the covered area. This makes the indoor more comfortable.

Hassle-free installation:

Most Awning Companies manufacture custom products that are made-to-measure. You give the specification and the manufacturer craft the sunshade accordingly. Expert people specialized in awning installation come to fit it to your home. Installation is simple and as I said before, people can always install it by themselves consulting the installation manual.

Light weight materials are used for awning, hence, unlike fixed canvases and canopies, modern retractable awnings do not exert much pressure nor do they put huge load on the building structure.

You can fold off the shade as per your requirement – fixed canopies could never give you that flexibility. Just pull the awning when sun is high and fold it off when you do not need it. Top of that, the foldable shades go for long. As you can fold them during adverse weather, they are protected from storm, heavy rain and sustained wind.

On contrast, places covered by fixed canopies may become hotter than the outside in night. Moreover, an unprecedented storm can damage your expensive fixed canopy. But retractable awnings do not put you into that mess.

Flexible use:

Fixed canopies may not fit within small spaces like over the windows and doors of your home. But retractable awnings are made to fit anywhere. Custom sunshades can be made for practically any place. As they are suspended with spring arms or wires, it is never difficult to install retractable awnings in any small place even.

Better control:

Retractable sun control shades are installed in a slanted style, not horizontally generally. You can change the slope to get better protection from sun, rain or snow. Fixed canopies, vertical canvases or drop curtains do not allow you to do so.
