Portals of Evil – Opening and Closing Them Are Your Good Intentions Opening the Wrong Doorways?

Each year thousands of lives are injured or shattered by inadvertently opening supernatural portals of evil and destruction. Almost always these invisible doors are unlocked by people who have good intentions but are looking for answers in the wrong places. How does this happen? Are there things that we or family members have done that have invited negative forces into our home? If so, what would the signs be? Is there something we might be unknowingly doing that open them? And more importantly, how can we safely close and lock down these demonic connections?

When we make a free will choice to receive information outside of our own self, it is imperative that we have accurate discernment to know who we are contacting. Often people accept any supernatural communication as if it is from God or someone who is trying to help us. When this supposition is wrong, it ends up in destroying the innocent, infecting homes and families, and creating a string of problems that continually harasses and follows the person, their loved ones, an item or their home.

We live in a world where what is seen with our eyes and heard with our ears is not hardly as much as the eyes and ears that see and hear us. What does this mean? There is a vast invisible world of good and evil around us every moment of every day. There are those who are good: Christ, the Holy Angels, our personal guardian Angel, loved ones who have passed on and are now in spirit form, and guides that were once alive on earth and have been sent by God to help us in an area that they are experts in. And the highest good of all, God – the Father of Divine Love himself; who desires beneficial communication with us so that we may have guidance, protection and peace in our lives.

Truly, we were not created to know everything ourselves, but to look outside of ourselves for higher wisdom – we were created with an empty God-spot that only heavenly spiritual connection can fill. Our spiritual nature is part of the great three balances that we need to attain and maintain a happy life – physical, emotional and spiritual health. Although we may try to put fame, fortune, relationships or material possessions into that spot, nothing will fill it but what it was made for – spiritual connection. So the problem is not that we are looking; the problem is how and from whom.

Not all that is invisible is there to scare us, but not all are there to help us either. There are unHoly Angels (demons) and manipulated ghosts who are all too willing to pretend to be someone they are not, and to mislead and ruin us if left unchecked. Our free will is a shield that can get holes in it, and holes open us up to attack and manipulation by these entities. This can create suffering from unexplainable, prolonged, repetitive or unusual health problems, severe depression, constant assaults on finances, physical health or family and relationships and many other debilitating problems; even to the point of wanting to commit suicide. This is the ultimate goal of evil – wanting the person to feel separated from God, their loved ones, even themselves – that they are “crazy” and hopeless and lost, so that they will ultimately destroy themselves. This is not what God wants, and there are Deliverance prayers and things we can do to become whole and free again (find the prayer in the article Are You Being Attacked? Deliverance and Exorcism).

What is the difference between being attacked and opening a portal? An attack can be a one-time thing, or occur several times through places of damage in our shield of free will. A portal is where an invitation has been made through use of a material object which now becomes a touchstone or channel for unHoly Angels to move through as they please, as many as they want, for constant attacks. This can happen on purpose, as when an object or place is dedicated to a demon by a ritual of various kinds. The object may then be given or sold to another person, thus passing the connections on with it. Whether the person receiving it knows about it or not they have just made a binding contract to the demons by agreeing to accept the gift. Or if a person bought it, to the demon world that contract is still as binding to the person who now owns it, as it was from the beginning by the person who first dedicated it through ritual. Not all dedicated items become portals, but the incidence is high. Can you see now the importance of knowing from who and where your items come? Be especially careful if items have come from out of the country, or are very old. Many portal items are considered expensive, so the person owning them may shy away from getting rid of them. But some are simple and basic to not raise undue attention.

Please note that because of individual free will, God also allows touchstones of good to be utilized as aids to help people (crucifixes, pictures of Jesus, prayer cards, the Bible, etc.) but a channel is never allowed to open as a portal through material items. For example, a person may hold a crucifix in their hand while praying for an Angel to help them, and it will be done. But the channel of connection and sending an Angel occurred because of the prayer, not because it was inherent in the item that was held. Even in places where apparitions of Mary have been seen, a high energy may be felt (all high energies leave a dusting on surrounding areas) but there is no portal. The same may be said for a religious or beloved item that has been passed down through family lines – we may feel the energy on it of love and comfort, but it has no power of its own.

A material item will never be utilized by God to create a portal for Holy Angels to have free will to go back and forth through. However, through the simple process of prayer, Angels can be given the ability to have continual authority and free will interaction to protect, guide and interact in behalf of us, the earth, and those that we pray for. In fact, special prayers called The Divine Decrees have been given for those who are living at this time of world shift, and one of the blessings they provide is the ability to call for the Holy Angels to use their own discernment to intervene in our lives at any time that they think best. And even these prayers must be repeated again within a few days – our free will interaction is needed to continue it.

UnHoly Angels have been around for thousands of years, they know the history of mankind, and have watched all the choices and interactions of your life too. So they also know what kind of things people have used as aids to contact them. These touchstone items are closely monitored by the unHoly Angels. And any new ways that people start using are also placed on the list. Some of these things are everyday items that we may not even realize have a history of divination behind them, but can be triggered as portals if we make an intention, even accidentally, to do so. Even if it is not in our culture or knowledge of how it was previously used, we can damage ourselves that easily.

For example, candles have been used as centuries, for good and for bad. Holy candles are a common thing, and every church has a good supply of them, including various traditions in using them, such as lighting one in memory of a loved one who has passed. But they have also have been/are being used in ceremonies to contact the dead (who may not be the actual loved ones), worship ancestors, pay homage to demons and to ask questions of the future. Does that mean lighting a candle or having it in your home is a bad idea? No. But be aware of how you use it, since it is an item monitored high on the list. If you find yourself staring into a candle while the thought “if only I had a sign that Sunny really loves me,” or “I wish I could see grandma again” goes through your head, you might inadvertently get answers from someone you will soon wish you had never met, and it may open a portal through that item, especially if your emotion about the question is very high at the time.

A good rule of thumb is to preface all your important questions in a prayerful manner. Spend time in communication with God, and ask for the Holy Angels to have free will to interact in your life. Setting time aside to do this will give you peace of mind and help you not have your most pressing questions at the forefront of your mind all the time. “Be joyful always, pray continually.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16) In this way, you are asking for spiritual connection in the right way and to the right person, God. And he will provide the answers and what you need at the right time for it. You can count on it.

Similar to the candle, cards of all forms have been used throughout history for good and for bad. This is also why cards in the form of Tarot are a place of real danger, because the prospect of connecting to the wrong word of advice is very real. The same danger can be triggered by dowsing, numerology, palmistry, Wicca, astrology, past life regressions, séances, and Ouija boards, to list a few. These are all places where good and bad can end up getting mixed up very easily, no matter what the intention of the person might be. Surrounding yourself with white light does little good when you are saying that with one side of your mouth and the demons hear you calling them with the other. It is a mixed signal, and the Holy Angels will not answer you this way.

Think of it this way – if a person wants you to drink poison, he will not put it in water – you would taste the bitterness right away and spit it out. But if it is mixed in a sweet drink, it is more difficult to recognize, and there is a good chance you might swallow it right down, to your own demise. It is the same with information given through unclean sources. Yes, they are real connections who might have built a strong relationship with you by being 95% accurate – but watch out for that 5%, for it will kill you. We have a tendency to believe all that is said to us when most has made sense to us or been proven to be right. That is exactly where the manipulation will now come in. And the outcome the demons want is our destruction. When we have built up a place of trust with these beings through methods of divination, it is only a matter of time before they turn on us – because after all, we have chosen and made a contract.

Portals can also be caused by people dabbling in the occult, whether they are just kids reading something out of a book or a small group intent on making a supernatural link. Demonic haunting of homes and graveyards often happen in this way, and it can become a portal on the land or the building itself. What some may start out as simple curiosity can bring into the home evil that will follow and attack the person(s) or house for years and years. What can happen? Inability to think clearly, seeing dark shapes or running shadows, hearing scratching, footsteps, screaming or other voices, difficulty with prayer (especially when using the name Jesus), oppressive thoughts, being touched or shaken at night, dizziness, seeing visions of disturbing or violent images, severe aggressive or depressive mood changes, smelling rotting flesh, receiving bodily scratches, items being thrown or smashed against walls or the floor, images of demons or contorted faces in gaseous form or in window or mirror reflections, severe headaches, nausea, unexplained electrical problems, physical gagging and not being able to breathe, being pushed or tripped, feeling like you are underwater or in a wave of heaviness, and even possession itself. And if the demon has been invited through a portal, it is not just about getting rid of the current offending demon(s), but also closing the door so no more come.

How do you cleanse an unclean item? Bless it with Holy Water, and any negative energy dusting will disappear. If the item is still dark, bust it up, put it in the ground, burn it in a safe place, and cover it back up. It must be totally destroyed so no one else could ever use it. How do you close a portal? Find the offending item, the trigger – whether it is a room in the house or the object. Prayer is essential, for this is a war you are fighting, and you must cleanse the area by the authority and confidence you have by faith. Your winning team is God, his Holy Angels, and his son, Jesus Christ. It is by the name of Christ that you can cast the demons out, and close the portal. It is not a time for fear. This means if you are afraid, call in those who have a stronger faith than you. When you ask another to do it for you and they agree, a new contract now exists for good, and the cleansing can occur in your behalf. “Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit, says the Lord of Hosts.”(Zechariah 4:6)

A house blessing is essential, a dedication of all things to the God of Love, and a choice of turning away from the things that caused the problems to begin with. “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7) Sprinkle Holy water in each room, and anointing oil over each window while reading prayers and scriptures out loud. It is similar to doing a Deliverance on a house instead of a person, so adjust the Deliverance prayer and use it. Be specific about where you are casting out the demons to – do not simply cast them out of your area, or to the desert or back where they came from – send the demons to God to deal with as he sees fit. Put a crucifix over each door that leads to the outside, and one over each bed. Also be specific in your wording that you know you have the authority as a child of God through the name of Jesus Christ to close the portal and that it will be done. Whether you are a Christian or not, all the demons know who Jesus is and the authority he has over them (read Why Jesus’ Life is Important Beyond Religion). Gather a group of friends and sing uplifting religious songs and call in the Holy Spirit for physical, emotional and spiritual healing on all participants. Receive an offering of communion in the house, and continue to arrange occasions for celebration and joy such as birthdays and anniversaries. Cultivate a prayerful attitude and make a sacred space or altar in the home where you go daily to pray, also making it a place where you arrange things that remind you of wonderful times in your life; for love, joy and happiness are Godly things. Make the darkest places the lightest, both spiritually and with physical lights and lamps.

And remember that no matter how bad it may seem, you are already a child of God and have the authority as his child to call on him whenever you like, and he will send Holy Angels to fight for you and protect you. But you must take action to do so. “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.” (Matthew 7:7,8) And this door, happily, is one you can open any time, and can trust with your life.

Federal Prison – Preparing For And Surviving The Hole

The hole-officially referred to as the Special Housing Unit (SHU) is a high security building on a federal prison compound consisting of one and two man cells. It is used to house new inmates who have not yet been processed or who have not yet been admitted to a unit. It is also used for disciplinary purposes and to protect inmates.

The cells in the hole are approximately 6 feet wide and 10-12 feet deep. They are concrete and consist of

a metal bunk bed, mattress, metal desk, mirror, metal combination sink toilet contraption and a shower with the water pressure of a broken down drinking fountain. There is no TV and if you are just arriving, you will have no radio either.

For a first time inmate, the mental strain of being locked in a cell can be significant. This can be lessened by taking care of yourself physically and by keeping your mind active.

Do your best to remain calm. Practice 10-15 minutes of deep breathing whenever you start to feel anxious and try to exercise. Push ups, squats, sit ups and lunges all pass the time and help to work off the stress. If you have been granted the luxury of self surrendering, make absolutely sure that you have subscribed to magazines and newspapers and have ordered a few soft cover books (hard cover are not permitted in the hole). Your mail will be delivered to you daily. A newspaper can last for hours when you have absolutely nothing else to do. A good book can take you out of your cell and help to take your mind elsewhere.

Food in the hole is bad. You will be fed three times a day by a guard or inmate orderly who will put a tray through the slot in the door. The food is all at least a day old and has been reheated. Force yourself to eat and save anything you don’t eat. You will be served three meals and three meals only.

Residents of the hole are permitted an hour of recreation (rec), five times a week. At some point in the day a guard will come by and ask if you want rec. For your own sanity, say yes. Note, if you are still awaiting your TB results, you will not be allowed to leave the cell at all until the CO’s in the hole have been notified that you are clear. This should take 2-3 days.

When you are led to rec, you will again be handcuffed and you may be patted down too. Be polite. The CO’s in the hole can very easily make your situation far worse than it already is. After three days I was finally permitted to have rec. I remember expecting to be led to a green field where I could maybe do a little jogging. Instead, I found myself being led into what appeared to be a very large dog kennel. The rec yard consisted of half a dozen completely enclosed cages. Each cage was approximately 20′ x 30′ and maybe 35′ in height. Once inside the cage, the CO will remove your handcuffs and you will be free to roam. Most inmates walk in circles or pace up and down the length of the fence. It is wise to take advantage of this opportunity to stretch your legs.

If you self surrendered, this will be the first time that you are in direct contact with other inmates. Do not be too anxious to make friends and do not ask too many questions. A simple “what’s up?” will suffice. If they are interested in speaking with you further, they will speak. Even then, it is best to say little in response. You have not even been on the compound yet and you do not know who these

people are and why they are in the hole. Be polite, be calm and be neutral in your speak and mannerisms.

After having been told that I would be in the hole for two or three days, it was nine days before I was finally let out. Although I was cleared of TB after just two days, the unit officer in my dorm did not get around to signing the paperwork to release me for another week. This was difficult for me to understand at the time, but over time you will come to terms with the fact that your comfort and convenience means very little to the BOP staff. When first arriving, you may avoid the hole altogether, but you need to be prepared to be sent there for many weeks, even if you are told it will just be a few days. Indeed, by the time I was released to my unit, there were a number of inmates who had been in the hole for over six weeks, awaiting placement at camp.

Christmas Illumination – Christmas Lights

Christmas is a festive occasion, which has been celebrated with great ceremony for many a year. It has always been associated with a feeling of rejuvenation and spiritual refinement; the time around this festive occasion is one where every heart is filled with the illuminating light of faith, hope and spirituality. The celebrations as well as the decoration which is universally seen during Christmas time also reflect this feeling. This is the reason why we use lights at Christmas; they are used to illuminate the whole world, doing away with the darkness and gloom of misery.

The importance as well as use of Christmas lighting can be dated back to historical times. From as early as the beginning of the nineteenth century, believers and followers of the faith had been employing candles to bring about Christmas lighting, in order to decorate Christmas trees in houses and other places. The credit for initiating this tradition goes to the wealthy class of Germany, who used these candles as decorative items. Eventually holders for candles were developed and extensively used, then improving upon this Thomas Elva Edison’s assistant introduced Christmas lighting commercially for the first time. Since then, various companies around the world have been actively involved in the process of manufacturing and marketing of Christmas lights.

As far as Christmas lights are concerned, you shall find that the market is swarmed with manufacturers selling various varieties of lights, each differing in features from others with regards to their application. A very important application of these Christmas lights is for the purpose of illuminating homes as well as offices. Another very important use of lighting used during Christmas is, or course, for the purpose of decorating the Christmas tree.

The most commonly used lights in modern day celebrations are fiber optic light rings or threads. These are used to enhance the beauty of the artificial Christmas trees, which are commonly used in our homes. Another very common type used these days is Christmas rope lights. These lights are used in order to initiate effective outdoor Christmas decoration as well as decoration of the house outdoors. You often find elegant lines of such lights, enhancing the glory and beauty of gates, grills as well as roofs and walls of houses, during the Christmas season. A wide variety of hues such as red, green, yellow and blue as well as varied glowing sequences such as continuous, intermittent and delayed can be found.

Another rather interesting variety of lights used during Christmas decoration is net lighting. Such lights hold true to their name, and the various strands of lights are artfully woven into each other, in order to form an illuminating net. The basic uses of such lights are seen in the decoration of gardens, maybe shrouding a large tree. They can be easily placed on shrubs, ferns and bushes in the garden, to give them illumination.

Apart from the look and feel of lights, if you are concerned with various other aspects such as their power consumption and general life, LED Christmas lights would surely be the ideal choice for you. The greatest advantage of these LED lights is that the power used in these lights is minimal and as a result, the amount of heat generated by them is also considerably less. Due to this fact, LED Christmas lights have a much longer life when compared to standard, outdoor Christmas lights.

Lighting a Fine Craft Trade Show Booth – Options for the Budget-Conscious Artist

Good lighting is a main ingredient of a successful trade-show booth. Just the right lighting system can help an artist create the atmosphere of a fine-craft gallery. This will lure gallery owners off the isles and into your booth – the first step toward making a sale.

Lighting is a relatively expensive investment. So how does the budget-conscious artist find the right solution?

When it comes to choosing a lighting system, artists new to the trade show circuit often become overwhelmed. Prices vary wildly, and each convention center may have its own lighting rules. Lighting technology is changing rapidly, making the choices harder still.

This article details what I learned while tackling the challenge of lighting my 10’X10’ booth at the American Craft Retailers Expo (ACRE), a large wholesale show for American and Canadian craft artists. As I am new to trade shows, this information is meant only as a pointer for artists in the process of choosing lighting, and perhaps also for more seasoned artists looking to update their systems.

In examining many different lighting options, my objective was to illuminate my glass jewelry beautifully but inexpensively. I wanted the lights to be lightweight and modular, to fit in boxes for shipping to the show. I was looking for contemporary styling, in silver or black. And I wanted to have at least one special lighting effect – not too flashy – to give my booth a unique element.

In his CD on booth design, art business consultant Bruce Baker suggests 1,000 watts will light up a 10’X10’ booth very effectively. I decided to stay at or under 500 watts, however, because the ACRE show includes 500 watts with the booth price, and the halogen lighting I ultimately decided upon illuminates my displays very well. Since I bought the lights at a “big-box” store with sites in virtually every city in the U.S., I can add more lights once I’m at the trade show if necessary.

The Battle of the Bulb

Contractors Choice Lighting (www.ccl-light.com) says a light fixture is simply a “bulb holder.” The bulb, therefore, should drive one’s choice of a fixture. This is somewhat true for trade-show lighting, although the fixtures may dictate the types of bulbs, depending on the choices available at the store where one shops for the lights. The CCL website offers a “Bulb Photometrics” page ([http://ccl-light.com/photometrics.html]), whose graphical representation is a refreshing departure from the complex descriptions of lighting options that have proliferated on the web.

Halogen is the bulb of choice for many trade show exhibitors. It offers a crisp, white light. Although people commonly refer to halogen as non-incandescent, it is in fact a kind of incandescent lamp. It generates light by using a thin filament wire made of tungsten, heated to white by passing an electric current through it. According to General Electric, the first halogen lamp was developed in 1959 – not too long ago for many of us!

Halogen bulbs differ significantly from the traditional type of incandescents we grew up with. The halogen bulb’s filament is surrounded by halogen gases (iodine or bromine, specifically). These gases let the filaments operate at higher temperatures. The end result is a higher light output per watt.

The gases also do something rather miraculous: Tungsten tends to evaporate off the filament over time, and the gases actually help re-deposit the tungsten onto the filament. This extends the bulb’s life way beyond that of the traditional incandescent bulb, whose evaporated tungsten clings to the walls of the bulb like a smoky apparition and eventually the uncoated filament snaps. Who hasn’t rattled a burnt-out light bulb and enjoyed the jazzy cymbal sound of the broken filament inside?

In addition to giving off more light than traditional incandescent bulbs, halogen bulbs emit a whiter light that provides better color rendition. “For highlighting and bringing out true colors, use halogen lamps,” suggests USA Light and Electric’s website (www.usalight.com). “Nothing looks better than the drama brought in with halogen lamps.”

Baker also suggests halogen lights – floodlights in particular – for a contemporary look, especially for jewelry and glass. It’s important to consider that other fine craft materials such as ceramics and wood might be better enhanced with halogen spotlights, or even with some of the more traditional incandescent lights that emit a warmer color.

Having decided upon halogen lighting, my next task would be to choose bulbs. The ACRE show takes place at the Las Vegas Convention Center, which has instituted a strict halogen lighting policy. Each light cannot exceed 75 watts, and all halogen bulbs must be factory sealed in glass (not in a removable lens or linear shape).

Thankfully, there is plenty of factory-sealed halogen lighting, in the form of PAR halogen bulbs. PAR is an acronym for “parabolic aluminized reflector.” PAR bulbs have a built-in reflecting surface made of pressed glass. The glass provides both an internal reflector and prisms in the lens for control of the light beam.

PAR bulbs are numbered, as in PAR 16, PAR 20, PAR 56. The PAR number refers to the bulb shape. Bulbs.com has a halogen section of the site where you can quickly compare the various PAR bulbs visually. Within a given category of PAR bulbs there are various wattages, wide and narrow spotlights and floodlights, different base sizes, and even different colors.

Fortunately I was able to skip the process of deciding on a PAR bulb by deciding first where to shop for my lights (more on that below).

Power Issues

When you go to shop for track lights, you’ll notice there’s a choice between 12-volt and 120-volt fixtures. 120 is the standard voltage that comes directly into most homes and offices – and convention centers.

For a lamp using 120 volts, no additional parts are necessary beyond a regular socket. 120-volt fixtures generally are lighter than 12-volt fixtures because they don’t need a transformer. They also cost less and can use halogen or regular incandescent bulbs.

I stopped short of investigating 12-volt fixtures, except to find out that they step down the amount of energy being used to a lower voltage, and thus are more energy efficient. They require a transformer to convert the 120-volt household current to 12 volts, and they may require hardwiring (although one artist I know found a 12-volt fixture with a built-in transformer which she was able to plug into a 120-volt outlet. A 12-volt fixture accommodates very efficient bulbs that offer a variety of wattages and beam spreads, including the 50-watt MR-16, which is popular in galleries.

I decided on 120-volt lighting for the trade show, because I wouldn’t have to worry about transformers and could just plug it in.

Choosing a Store and Track Lighting

I read the ACRE online forum for clues about where to buy lighting. What one artist said struck me as eminently sensible: He buys all his lighting at Home Depot, because if anything goes wrong at the show, he can find a store nearby for replacement parts.

This was something to consider: Tempting as the gorgeous designs might be, special-order lighting of any kind introduces the risk of having a malfunctioning light for the duration of a show.

Another artist on the ACRE online forum said he buys his lights from Lowes. It probably doesn’t matter which big-box store one chooses, as long as there’s one in every city.

Since I was new to trade shows and this was to be my first lighting kit, I resisted choosing from the many good suppliers on the web. I settled on the limited but attractive selection at Lowes. A side benefit of this was that my choices were comfortably narrowed.

Within the category of halogen lighting, you can get either track lights or stem-mounted lights (with arms extending outward). I went with track lights. This was partly because the stem lights I found on the web were relatively expensive and Lowe’s didn’t offer them, and partly because with track lights I could have one cord instead of several hanging down.

The Lowes lighting salesperson was helpful in putting together a full package from the track lighting on display and in stock. I decided on four, two-foot tracks to keep the size of my shipping boxes down. Here’s a rundown of what I bought:

· 4 two-foot track sections, Portfolio brand, black finish, Item #225678. Each section holds 2 lights, for a total of 8. Total: $23.12

· 8 Flared Gimbal Track Lights, Portfolio brand, Item #120673, with a satin chrome finish for a contemporary look. They are easy to attach to the track by following the directions. Total: $80.76

· 8 halogen bulbs, Par 20, 50-watt, for bright, crisp light. I bought several floodlights and a couple of spotlights. The bulbs are very packable, at a little over 3” long and 2.5” in diameter. Total: $60.00

· 2 Miniature Straight Connectors by Portfolio, Item #120716, for joining two of the track sections end to end. The idea is to have only one cord to plug in from a row of four lights. Total: $5.92.

· 2 Cord and Plug Sets, Portfolio brand, Item #120827, to power track from a standard AC wall outlet. I connected these to the end of the two of the track sections by unscrewing the covering on one side of the track. Total: $17.06

· Various Multi-Purpose Ties (cable ties), by Catamount, for attaching tracks to booth pipes. Total: $5.00

· 2 heavy-duty extension cord/power strips – 14-gauge, 15-feet, with three outlets each, Woods brand, from Lowe’s, Item #170224, model 82965. Total: $22.00

Grand total: $213.86

The Gimbal lights I chose only accept a 50-watt, PAR 20 bulb, which made it easy to pick out the bulbs. So in this case, the fixture drove the choice of bulb, not the other way around.

According to the Bulb Photometrics page at Contractors Choice Lighting, a PAR 20, 50-watt halogen flood bulb will emit a beam of light with a 5’4” diameter when it reaches 10 feet away. It offers about 12 foot-candles worth of light at 10 feet away from the bulb (a foot-candle is the level of illumination on a surface one foot away from a standard candle.)

For the sake of comparison, a PAR 30 beam offers a diameter of more than 8’ at 10 feet away, and you still get about 14 foot-candles at that distance. What happens if you notch it up to a 75-watt bulb? You get a lot more foot-candles (38) at 10 feet away. This suggests that larger trade-show booths might want to take advantage of higher PAR and higher watt bulbs.

All together, the track lighting system I chose uses 400 watts of electricity. This left me another 100 watts to add specialty or accent lighting to my booth, while still remaining at the 500-watt limit.

Cords, Plugs and Hanging Lights

The Las Vegas Convention Center has very strict rules for cords, plugs, and hanging lights.

The two-pronged, 18-gauge cords that the manufacturer has attached to your lights are acceptable (leave the UL tags and labels intact). These lighting cords cannot be plugged into the convention center outlet, however. Instead, you must plug them into a three-pronged, heavy duty, 14-gauge extension cord – or a breaker strip with a 14-gauge cord. You can then plug that 14-gauge extension cord into the convention center outlet.

A 14-gauge extension cord is capable of handling 1,825 watts. It’s helpful to read the brief extension-cord sizing and safety information on the web pages of the Underwriters Laboratories (www.ul.com/consumers/cords.html) and the University of Florida Cooperative Extension Service ([http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/FY800]) before purchasing a cord.

Bruce Baker suggests the cord be 20 feet with six outlets, and that it include a cord reel. I couldn’t find this type of cord at Lowe’s, so I decided on two 15-foot, heavy-duty, 14-gauge extension cord/power strips, each offering three outlets. If you have a larger booth, you can find a 25-foot cord with three outlets at Lowe’s.

There are so many different approaches to hanging lights, and so many variables to consider, that it could be a topic for another article. In general, you can hang or clip lights onto a cross bar or onto the “hard walls” of your display if you have them. Depending on the rules of a particular trade show and the size your lighting system, you may be permitted to attach the lights to the booth’s existing pipe and drape.

Since my booth design does not include my own walls, my lights will attach either to the existing pipe or to a cross bar. Cable ties (commonly called “zip ties”) appear to be tool of choice for attaching tracks to the pipes or bars, and even for attaching additional cross bars to existing pipe and drape. One artist I know uses Velcro strips, followed by cable ties to secure the attachments. There are a few entire websites for cable ties. One of them is http://www.cabletiesplus.com .

I purchased Multi-Purpose Ties from Home Depot. They can bundle 4 inches in diameter, withstand temperatures up to 185 degrees Fahrenheit, and hold up to 50 lbs.

Accent Lighting: LEDs

There are many ideas for accent lighting – although a fair treatment of the topic is beyond the scope of this article. Light-emitting diode (LED) lighting is one technology that is experiencing breakthroughs and growing fast. It takes many LEDs to equal the light output of a 50-watt bulb, and LEDs are fairly expensive, so LEDs aren’t ready for prime time when it comes to lighting a whole booth.

There are several close-up applications for LEDs, however, that are worth looking into now. An example is the in-counter light bar sold by MK Digital Direct at http://www.mkdigitaldirect.com (at a whopping $175 per foot). The more affordable MK Sparkle Light Pocket ($30) is a portable device that has extra long-life of over 100,000 continuous hours and promises to give jewelry “maximum sparkle and scintillation.”

The Nexus mini LED light system (www.ccl-light.com), meanwhile, offers a lot of illumination for its size – a puck shape not much bigger than a quarter. The company says it is for direct display lighting of crystal and glass, and it can even be submerged in water. The light is attached to a 12’ cable that ends in a plug, and has “mode switch” with seven different color choices. Unfortunately, white is not one of the color choices, and at $25 it’s a bit expensive. Still, a few of these lights combined with room lighting could draw viewers into your booth and toward your most dramatic displays.

LEDS also include tube lights, flexible lights, linear lights, and bulbs. Superbright LEDs (www.superbrightleds.com/edison.html ) has a collection of 120-volt screw-in LED bulbs for accent and other low-lighting applications, as well as a host of other fascinating products such as “plant up-light fixtures.”

At this writing, the search was still on for accent lighting to give my booth an extra special glow. Stay tuned for a future article on the results.

Barriers to Effective Communication in the Workplace

The workplace is often described by many as stressful, busy, productive and possibly a distraction for some. Without effective communication, much is misunderstood and managers will often find themselves making poor decisions because something was not communicated. Businesses exist for one main purpose and that’s to generate a profit. Why then would any business risk their existence and their reputation because of the inability to effectively communicate.

In the workplace there exist barriers that hinder effective communication, managers and employees alike must recognize these barriers and take proper action to remedy the situation to allow for productive communication. Why is this important? Nothing is more embarrassing than to make a business decision based on something you though you heard or understood.

When managers meet in the board room or the cubical, they share information needed to make business decisions. Managers should consider meeting in a place where distractions are kept at a minimum. While in the board room, cellphones are a definite distraction, especially when custom ringtones are heard that sidetrack the meeting at the precise moment vital information is given. When managers make a business decision based on something they thought they heard and there was no reason to clarify, results can be disastrous. Distractions can come in many forms. Holding a meeting in a place where there is noise and those in the meeting are struggling to hear what you have to say, is a recipe for disaster.

While some workers thrive on it, other may find it difficult to cope with the stress encountered in the workplace. When businesses are prosperous or in distress, managers and workers tend to make hasty decisions or they make decisions without having all the facts. Being able to prioritize events and the importance of things (as they happen) will help you in managing your stress.

This is a big one, a single person could effectively hamper the communication process with their attitude. This attitude can be from a manager or a worker. When attitudes are apart of the equation, emotions will rain in the course of the process. No body wants to be wrong, everybody wants to point fingers and everybody wants to be right. Management has to take a hard stand on setting the tone for the communication process and each person has the professional responsibility to do the same.

Tone, inflection and common phrases mean different things to different people, especially when they speak another language. For those english speaking managers and workers, you must realize this. This is a fact of the diverse workplace. It’s shortsighted to display your displeasure with a coworker with a sharp accent. Diversity is not going away, ever, in the workplace.

Lastly, the organization and its internal structure is often a barrier to effective communication. The communication process or the flow of information between managers and upper management is often frustrated when workers are bound to following organizational charts. When managers and supervisors can get quick and responsive feedback from upper management to make smart business decisions I believe the importance of effective communication within the workplace is realized.

Locating Your Desktop Wallpaper File in Windows

The pictures used as desktop wallpapers are stored as windows caches and the original picture file is stored in the default location. All the desktop wallpaper files are located in a common file path, which makes it easy to locate the files. When you need to retrieve the most prized landscape desktop wallpaper that was accidentally deleted or simply lost the original picture file on your computer, you can still have hopes to salvage the wallpaper from its default location.

Windows converts the desktop wallpaper image into a.bmp format and stores it in the file path, C_Documents and Settings_ _Local Settings_Application Data_Microsoft. By following some simple steps you will be able to retrieve the wallpaper image from its default location. You will be able to locate the original location and the file that is displayed on the desktop. As a first step, when you log in change the user name and replace it with your account name. Once you are logged in, copy the file path mentioned above after replacing the underscores with backslash. Enter this file path in the windows explorer window location bar and hit enter. The file can be found in the Wallpaper1.bmp folder.

Another alternative way to locate the desktop wallpaper image file is to browse through the folders in order to locate the file, but to do this the settings have to be changed. All the sub-folders and the local settings are stored as hidden by default and so the settings need to be changed to view the files and folders. In order to unhide the system files, you have to open the windows explorer. After selecting the tools options you can browse to the folder options and view where you have to select the tick box to show the hidden files and folders. This can help you locate the desktop wallpaper file easily.

In cases where the files of the operating system are stored on a different hard drive or a different partition, you will have to follow a different approach to locate the desktop wallpaper file. The system files that are stored in the partition or the hard disk will have to be browsed through separately. In the same file path as C_Documents and Settings_ _Local Settings_Application Data_Microsoft, the ‘C’ will have to be replaced with the location name of the partition or the hard disk.

Basic Facts About Nutrition Supplements

Nutrition Supplements are something we have all heard of over the years but what exactly does the term mean. It is a fact that all the food we eat have nutritional content. Nutrition supplements are simply food in a concentrated form designed to give the benefit of eating a large quantity of food in natural form.

Over the decades, the nutrient quality of fruits and vegetables available today has deteriorated due to the depletion of the nutrient content in the soil. If you take into consideration the pollution in water and air, the use of Hybrid or genetically engineered seeds, extensive use of fertilizers and pesticides, it is very optimistic to expect good quality of nutrition.

It is therefore understandable that the possibility of getting adequate nutrition through our regular diet has become difficult. It is no wonder that chronic diseases are rampant today and striking people much earlier than before. To help assist our body’s nutritional needs due to our reduced quality of diet, we make use of nutrition supplements so that our body can perform at the level that is designed to do. Healthy eating is the ideal scenario when you can prepare meals with the proper ingredients, but with our busy lifestyles and limited time, the next best thing to healthy eating is taking nutrition supplements.

With the help of supplements you can guarantee that you get sufficient nutrients to help promote the best possible health and performance, even if you don’t eat an adequate balanced variety of foods to stay within your daily needs for better health.

There are six essential nutrients for health and body maintenance. These are vitamins, minerals, water, fats, proteins, and carbohydrates. Nutrients are the building blocks of life that we obtain through our diet. Our bodies don’t make them. At this time, it is known that there are fourteen vitamins required by humans. Vitamins are organic compounds found in foods. Since they are organic – containing carbon – they can be destroyed by heat, unlike their companion essential nutrient group, the incombustible minerals.

There are six food types that contribute to healthy eating from which we can absorb these essential vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. These are grains, vegetables, fruits, oils, dairy, meats and beans. We should strive to consume these food types in a balanced way to help maintain and promote better health naturally.

It’s important to understand that nutrition supplements are not intended to treat, diagnose, mitigate, prevent, or cure diseases but rather to assist your body’s nutritional needs.

Foam Board Insulation Vs Spray Foam Insulation

Spray foam insulation is a close relative of foam board insulation, in the sense that the material is very similar, as there are also foam core boards made from the same foam spray foam is made of and the idea behind it is closely related with foam board insulation, working in a similar style. In a way, expanding foam is the spray version of it’s relative, each with its advantages. Unlike rigid foam board insulation with foam core boards, expanding foam is sprayed out of a gun, over the areas that must be insulated, therefore, making it’s way over every shape of the area, and getting in any cracks or spaces, even some of those that might be hard to access or even not visible.

Expanding spray foam insulation is made out of a material very similar to polyurethane. Polyurethane is the foam that is commonly used to seal the spaces around windows and doors, usually sprayed from a can. Its advantage is that it takes very little material to seal the said areas, as the foam expands after applying, taking a rigid shape of the area it was sprayed in.

Working on a similar principle, is easier to apply than foam board insulation, because it does not require special fittings, as it sticks to the surface it is applied over, and since it does not consists of foam core boards, it doesn’t need special seals like foam board insulation does in order to prevent unwanted draught.

One of the disadvantages of using this kind of insulation is that it must be applied using special tools. If you are interested in using this type of insulation on a small scale only, it might not be advantageous to buy the corresponding equipment, being more viable to rent the equipment or get a trained team to do it for you. However, since normal foam core board would also require a professional installation this disadvantage is somewhat mitigated.

If you intent on insulating a barn, a garage or even your entire house you should certainly consider spray foam insulation as one of the options.

Eye Lag Screws Are Not Just for Suspended Ceilings

The acoustical suspended ceiling industry uses eye lag screws almost exclusively to hang ceiling wires because they are economical and can be installed quickly and safely from the floor. These screws can be used in many other overhead applications such as hanging lights, signs, electrical cable, data communications cable (CAT5 and CAT6), HVAC ducts, electrical conduit, electrical trapeze, shielded cable and telephone wire to mention a few.

Description and load limits:

The eye of the screw is a 3/16″ hole punched in the flattened area. The flat end is used to twist the screw in. Screws designed for wood applications are about three inches long and have about an inch and a half of coarse threads that taper to a sharp point; there is no need to pre-drill a pilot hole. Pull out strengths vary with penetration and wood strength, but are usually more than the strength of the ceiling wire (600 pounds). Screws designed for sheet metal are case hardened and are zinc plated. They may have a sharp point (for thinner gauges) but usually have a drill point. Pull strength in sheet metal varies with metal thickness. Typically the thinner gauges (22 gauge) are allowed loads of 120 pounds. The thicker gauges (18 gauge) are allowed loads of around 240 pounds.

Methods of installation:

Telescoping poles tools are available that will reach a ceiling of up to 30′. These eye lag extension poles allow you to drive in the eye lag screw and “twist” off the ceiling wire from the ground. There are installation videos available online that demonstrate how easy these pole tools work. The LagMaster Plus is the most versatile of the eye lag poles available for this purpose as it can also be used to hang threaded rod, jack chain and spring steel clips from the ground. In some areas like California, eye lags screws pre-wrapped to ceiling wire are available. These pre-wrapped screws are used in order to make installation of ceiling wire even faster and to satisfy California codes for hospitals, jails and schools.

When you are up next to the ceiling you can use a drill driver jig to twist in the screw. This is the method used when you only have a few screws to install and you are already going to be on a ladder or scissor lift.

In summary, eye lag screws are surprisingly strong and versatile whether you are fastening to a wooden joist or metal decking.

Penis Pumps – Improve Erections Without Using Any Medications

Penis pumps have been in use since several decades and are still quite popular. Men in stable relationships who do not wish to take medications or who do not get desired results from impotence treatment pills especially prefer to use penis pumps. Modern day advanced penis pumps are both safe and easy to use. Besides, they also provide pleasure to men because of their gentle vibrating mechanism.

What are penis pumps?

Penis pump, also popularly known as vacuum pump, is a widely used device for impotence treatment. Many men also use penis pumps for masturbation or to increase the length or girth of the penis. Although there is a huge range of penis pumps available on the market today, most typically consist of an acrylic cylinder with a pump that may be attached directly to the end of the penis. The cylinder is attached to a manual, motorized or battery-powered pump to create suction. As the penis pump creates a vacuum around the penis, blood is forced into the penis, helping it to become engorged causing erection. Excessive pressure should not be applied at this stage, as it may cause damage to the penile tissues. The erection of the penis is sustained by slipping a penis ring on to the base of the erect penis before releasing the vacuum. The function of the cock ring is to restrict the blood flow so that the erection is maintained long enough to complete sexual activity.

How to use penis pumps?

Given below are simple steps to use pumps. Though they may appear complex initially, with practice you will find pumps simple to use:

To begin with, you need to push your penis into the ring until the mouth of the tube is firmly up against your body.

  • At this stage, you are required to pump slowly. This is because over pumping may cause serious damage to your penile tissues
  • Continue pumping until your penis is fully erect
  • Do not use the pump for over 20 minutes, as it may cause permanent damage to your penis
  • Stop using the this device in case you experience any pain
  • Once you have achieved the desired hardness, slip in a cock ring at the base of the penis before releasing the vacuum. This restricts the blood flow and helps you maintain an erection
  • Do not wear penis ring for longer than 30 minutes to avoid causing damage to your penile tissues

How penis enhancement pumps improve erections?

Penis enlargement pumps have been found to be extremely useful in the treatment of impotence. Men whose conditions contraindicate the use of oral impotence treatment medications or who do not get effective results from medications make use of these devices to improve erection.

An erection of the penis occurs when blood flows into the penis. In men, suffering from erectile dysfunction any of the several complex processes that lead to erection is inhibited and the desired flow of the blood to cause erection does not take place. Penile pumps create a vacuum around the penis so that the blood remains in it and helps it to remain erect. Modern day advanced devices helps men to start and finish an erection at will. Besides, compared with other impotence treatment methods, these pumps are safe, effective and inexpensive. Older men in stable relationships prefer these pumps to other treatment methods to improve erection.

Definition Of Lean Manufacturing – What Is Lean Manufacturing?

When people try to think of things like lean manufacturing, they would presume that lean manufacturing is something related to doing few things and get job done easily. However, the most important principle of this kind of manufacturing strategy is to get more with doing less.

It is not something related to finding shortcuts. Instead, it would be about reducing the wastes and still maintain a certain level of production efficiency. Yes, it means that you are going to use fewer resources to finish the same job. What is waste? It is something that is not directly used or needed to finish a job.

It can be in form of movements, meaning that you might need to walk from here to there to finish a part of the job. It can also mean wasted handling, in which you would have to send the products to several places and make it eventually. On the other hand, it can also be related to excessive inventory. It means that you are trying to store up a lot of things and you actually do not need to store so much. As a result, you would need to pay a lot of money for warehousing and you need manpower to handle the checking and packaging of products.

Up to this point, you may think that lean manufacturing means that people should try to pack everything into one at one point and specialization should not be implemented. However, the fact is that specialization and lean manufacturing are not mutually exclusive.

Lean manufacturing means that you should try to save some wasteful steps or resources and you are going to achieve more. Sometimes, modern managers believe too much in job specializations and they would always try to implement this kind of technique in production. This leads to serious problem. Some of the jobs are divided into too small pieces and it would be stupid for people to do those steps separately.

Yes, lean manufacturing deals with this kind of problem. It would try to solve the problem by combining those small steps and make the steps more cost-effective. But for some steps which have been well defined, lean manufacturing is not needed.

In order to implement the lean manufacturing process in a smooth way, people would have to check and analyze the steps in a production carefully. This is a challenging job to most of the managers. Yes, they may not know a lot about lean manufacturing and they might need to start from the beginning. They would need to check the manufacturing processes and find whether it is possible to combine some of the small parts. They might try to assign some employees to use the lean manufacturing method while the others should use the traditional production method. This can allow them to compare the possibility of combining different kinds of production steps and achieve positive results for the company eventually. If you want to know more, you surely should try to visit the internet because there are plenty of useful websites.

Why Do Dogs Tilt Their Heads?

Dogs have this endearing characteristic of tilting their heads, as if asking you “whats next or what do you mean?” People tilt their heads too when they want to understand more. But of course dogs doing this act are more adorable than people.

Just as in humans, dogs tilt their heads too when they want to hear better. Dogs can easily converse with each other merely by sniffing and by growling. Obviously it would be a different thing with humans. Dog are intelligent creatures but we must realize that our actions as well as speech can be confusing to a dog. Notice how a new dog or a puppy would watch the master for a while before acting on a command. This is because the dog is still familiarizing on the body language and the speech of the master. After a while you will notice that the dog would cock its head when it realizes that what the human is saying concerns him. The words eat and food would make a dog tilt its head even without actually seeing the food.

The dog would react to the slightest noise by tilting its head. Anything interesting would make the dog sit up and perk its ears. Mainly this is due to the positioning of the ears. Some breeds have pendulous ears that obstruct the sound. Sound waves are often muffled by thick ears that are densely covered with hair. The dog has to cock the head so that sound waves can pass through the obstruction and reach the eardrums. Dogs with pricked ears rarely tilt their heads to hear more.

Usually dog would tilt their heads if the sound or the person talking are in front of them. Head tilting will not be necessary if the sound is coming from the side as the sound waves will go right in.

Head tilting can mean that the pet is infested with ear mites. Of course ear mites are more common in cats but dogs get it too. Head tilting can have a more serious medical implication. This could mean that the ear is infected. This often happens to dogs with big floppy ears. Because the inside of the ear is often hot and moist it became a rich bed for bacteria to flourish. Encephalitis, a brain infection can also cause head tilting. Brain injuries and tumors can make the dog tilt its head.

Some dogs however are showoffs. They would tilt their head because they know that their beloved masters are amused and performing can gain them a hug, a cuddle and a tasty treat.

Where To Find A Replacement Canopy For Your Gazebo

Owning a gazebo with canopy top is a great way to spend time

outdoors without battling the hot sun or rain. These gazebos

are easy to assemble, affordable, available in a wide range of

materials, colors, and styles, and a great addition to any

backyard. With a canopy gazebo, you can spend time relaxing in

the shade with some ice tea and a great book, kicking back with

friends on a starry night, or dining on grilled chicken and

hamburgers with the family.

Today, canopy gazebo designs have improved dramatically. What

you will now find are canopies made from new and improved

material that is fade resistant, mildew resistant, scratch

resistant, and heavier to hold up better overall. In fact, many

canopy gazeboes are so well made that the manufacturer will

offer a five-year warrant on the canopy portion. However,

sometimes things do happen so if you need to find a replacement

canopy for a gazebo, you are in luck.

Rather than toss out a perfectly good gazebo, you can simply

find a replacement canopy for the gazebo. In fact, if you have

an older style gazebo, this would be an ideal time to update,

choosing a more contemporary style and material. This way, you

can continue enjoying your old frame but now with a beautiful

and fresh facelift. In most cases, a replacement canopy for a

gazebo is very affordable, which would of course depend largely

on the materials chosen and overall size needed.

We suggest when looking for a replacement canopy for a gazebo

that you go with fabric such as weather resistant nylon. Sturdy,

durable, and visually pleasing, this would make a great

impression. Although the replacement features of canopies vary

from one manufacturer to another, many feature special Velcro

straps so the canopy can be installed onto the existing gazebo

frame easily. In addition to single tiered canopy replacement,

you will also discover multi-tiered canopies, as well as various

colors and shapes.

To give you an idea of what you will find on the market, a

beautifully designed replacement canopy for your canopy, let us

say a standard 10×10-foot size and made from durable polyester

vinyl would cost just under $100. However, if you keep your

eyes open, chances are you can find a number of sales or

discounted prices. Included with this replacement canopy design

is a ventilated top construction, which is made to fit easily

over the gazebo frame.

Another recommendation we would make is to choose a replacement

canopy for your gazebo with reinforced corners. This way, you

know you have a tight, secure fit. Most important when choosing

a new canopy is paying attention to the size. Unfortunately,

differences in gazebo designs to include roof pitch, beam

lengths, and so on can make a huge difference in the way in

which a “universal” canopy fits. Therefore, you might consult

with your local gazebo or home improvement company to make sure

you get the right size for your particular gazebo.
