How to Mount Number Plates on UK Cars

Having spent hundreds or even thousands on a personalized registration number many people put very little thought into how to fix the physical number plates to their car if this is not done correctly the appearance of their pride and joy can quickly go downhill. In the past number plates were drilled and fixed to the car with self tapping screws , with the advent of plastic bumpers and double sided tape plates are now usually stuck to the car. Both methods have advantages and pitfalls which will be discussed here.

Drilling the plates and fixing with screws gives a good solid mounting but sometimes the screw heads can alter the look of the registration number if they land close to or in a digit , also water can seep into the holes and separate the reflective and acrylic over time, ruining the number plate. Before deciding to drill , work out where the screw heads will be and if you do drill ,start from the front face and stop just as the drill breaks through , then flip the plate over and drill from the back , this will prevent separation of the reflective from the acrylic. To ensure that the plates are level and positioned correctly tape the old plates over the new ones and drill through the holes in the old plates to mark the positions on the new ones. If you do find that the screw head has gone through a digit , a touch of black paint on the screw head will improve the appearance , if the screw heads land in a blank space, there are available screw head covers you can use so they blend in with acrylic , these are available in both white and yellow for font and rear number plates. You can also get white and yellow plastic bolts and nuts although these are less useful on the new style integrated bumpers and valances used on modern cars.

The main problem with sticking the plates onto the car is one of them falling off ! The trick here is to thoroughly clean the surface where the plate is going and de-grease it with a solvent , then use a reputable make of sticky fixers and use lots of them they come in pakets and you may as well use them all up.

There is a third option , you can use mounting frames , these are screwed to the car and then the number plate clips into the frame giving the advantages of both systems of fixing , if you change your car often these would be a worthwhile investment as you could keep your plates when you sell the car and transfer them to your new car when you transfer the registration number.

Slow Cookers – The Right Size Does Matter

Take the Time to Choose the Right Size Crock Pot

Slow cookers, also known as crock pots, are one of those kitchen appliances that, once you have one and use it, you will never give up.

However, making the decision to buy one is MUCH easier than deciding WHICH one to buy.

The Correct Crock Pot Size is Important

While there are a number of factors to consider, including price, the primary factor needs to be the size of the crock pot.

Crock pots, at their simplest, consist of a pot and a heating element that the pot sits on or in. Ingredients are added to the pot, the lid is placed on it, and it cooks away for hours.

Slow cookers are designed to cook without being disturbed, and in fact, taking the lid off can cause a severe loss of heat. A crock pot can take as long as 20 minutes to get back up to the right cooking temperature after the lid has been lifted!

Because of the way they work, it is important that any recipe used be specifically for that size pot.

All of these factors lead to my main point, you can’t cook different amounts of food in the same crock pot. You are committed to cooking that specific amount of food. For example, if you have a large slow cooker – in the 6-7 quart range- you won’t be able to successfully create a small recipe in that model.

As a result, I consider it important that you choose the size cooker you need before considering price or features, or any other factors.

Choose the Right Size First

If you are purchasing your first slow cooker and plan to use it primarily, be sure to buy one to match your basic needs.

If you are a small family, but leftovers are a favorite, as is our situation, it actually may make sense to buy a larger crock pot. We have a large oval model that is 6-7 quarts.

If you just like to make hot dips for appetizers, you would probably do best with a smaller model, maybe 3-4 quarts. I recently saw a double model with two small pots, each with its own temperature control. This would be great for dips if you do a LOT of entertaining, or if you are a small household and you like variety but don’t care about leftovers.

I have seen a three in one three pot model with individual 2 qt, 4 qt, and 6 qt pots. This looks like a really good solution except that you can only create one dish at a time, since there is only one base. For most folks, this probably would not be an issue, for a rabid cook, it may make no sense at all.

I have a close friend whose chicks have moved out of the nest. While Deb cooks a lot, she and Charlie are usually the only ones eating dinner. Having said that, she is very active socially in her church and actually has TWO large crock pots (one of them was inherited from her mom) and she frequently uses them both. Sometimes she makes two batches of the same dish, other times she brings two different meals.

As you can see, it is important to accurately access your actual crock pot needs.

As I mentioned at the start, I think that choosing the right size is the most important factor. Once that decision is made, you’ll find yourself balancing features and pricing.

Unfortunately, if you have purchased the wrong size crock pot, the features and price are likely to be moot and your slow cooker may sit unused, gathering dust.

Plastic Roofing – Light, Functional And Easy To Install

Plastic has greatly changed the world when it has been introduced as a material for making things. Now you can find a lot of useful objects made out of plastic and they truly come handy for a lot of situations. One industry that has greatly benefited from plastics is the roofing industry with the great value that plastic roofing can provide in terms of function and style.

Light Weight and Low Cost

The use of plastic in roofing has greatly increased over the last few decades because of obvious and considerable benefits when compared to other types of roofing materials such as metal, wood, slate, ceramic, and asphalt. What people like about plastic roofing is their light weight, low cost, durability and ease of installation. Plastic roofs also come in different colors and thus are very much attractive especially for structures that have color motifs.

Ultraviolet Stabilizers

The main disadvantage of plastic roofing is their possible sensitivity to light and heat. Plastic can melt or fade with much exposure to the sun and changing weather, but this problem can be addressed with the thermal and ultraviolet stabilizers that have been added to newer productions of plastic roofs. Extreme weather conditions may take a toll on the usual plastic roofs but with the right mix of chemical components some of plastic roofing material’s problems can be minimized.

Plastic Roofing is usually made of polycarbonate, a standard thermoplastic material that is known for its excellent optical, thermal and mechanical features. The roof often comes in polycarbonate panels, sheets or tiles. What is good about the polycarbonate material is its good resistance to stress. It can withstand impact 200 times greater than glass, meaning that it would not be susceptible to damage when stones or hail fall on the roof. The mechanical properties of this type of roofing are also rather resistant to changes in temperature.

To reinforce the advantages of plastic roofing one can add ultraviolet radiation filters during the co-extrusion process of the sheet or the panel. Special additives may be used to prevent excessive interior heating. Cavity structures may also help increase the load capacity and flexibility of plastic roofing.

Lifetime Guarantee

Plastic roofing comes in varying prices and quality depending on the size, composition, thickness, colors, and profiles. The most common plastic roofing profile that people see is the corrugated one, as it has general better structural properties than flat ones. The cheaper plastic roofs are made of PVC while the more expensive and sturdier ones are made of polycarbonate components. The best quality plastic roofs may come with lifetime guarantees.

Installation of plastic roofing is quite easy, which is why it is usually the roofing choice for projects that have limited time frames. For optimal installation ease, manufacturers often recommend installing plastic roofing on a roof with at least 10 degrees of pitching. Anything lesser than that may require extra weatherproofing measures such as adding flashings or sealants.

Cutting the plastic roof panels for resizing should be easily done with a fine toothed saw or a pair of garden scissors. The better the quality of the plastic roof material, the easier it is to cut. Some installers use disk grinders with carborundum blades for more precisions when cutting plastic roofs, although one sheet at a time may be cut to avoid fusion and welding together.

Installation Tips

A good tip for installation is pre-drilling holes on to sheets before they are installed. Holes usually should be from 8mm to 10mm with some 2mm allowance based on the screw shafts to allow contraction and expansion. Holes should be drilled on the higher part of the roof’s corrugation. It is usually easier to do the drilling with the sheet on the ground, upside down. A stick with a hole may also be used as a guide for drilling

Screws are used to secure the sheets of plastic roofing. Special screws are made for this purpose and may easily be bought from plastic roof suppliers. The easiest screws to use are those with hexagonal heads. Majority of the sheets or panels should be secured with four corrugation spaces and at every second when there are overlaps, ridging, and gutters.

Plastic roofing is definitely a staple choice in structural coverage. With its great function, light weight, and ease of installation, it is deemed to remain a popular choice of roofing in the appropriate situations.

Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring – Important Things You Need to Know

Luxury vinyl plank flooring is considered by many to be the perfect blend of style and functionality. Current styles by major manufacturers have never look better and more realistic. Luxury vinyl planks also offer in many cases a more durable and tougher floor than other options such as hardwood and laminate, especially when it comes to handling scratches and water issues. If you are one of the many consumers considering luxury vinyl wood looking planks, there are several things you will need to know when choosing your floor.

Not all luxury vinyl flooring planks are created equal. There are quite a few differences between construction styles among the major manufacturers. Backing systems can vary between brands. Some luxury wood vinyl plank floors have residential warranties and others have a commercial warranty as well. Other differences include is the vinyl plank water proof or water resistant? Is the plank UV stabilized to prevent fading? Does the luxury wood vinyl plank you are looking at have a built in mold and mildew inhibitor? Also, some major manufacturers even certify their luxury vinyl to be hypo-allergenic. You can also compare thickness as a relative concept for durability. The basic, entry level products start at around 2 mil thickness progressing up to 6 mils. The key thing here is that not all luxury vinyl planks are built the same.

Price can vary extremely among styles and brands. Prices can range from $.99 per square foot to $5.00 a square foot. If your budget is limited and you need to go with a cheaper, entry level luxury vinyl that’s fine. Just make sure that the price point you are paying matches the thickness and wear layer of the product you are looking at. You will see 2 mil products discounted in the lower range and work up from there. The important note to remember here is to make sure that you are comparing apples to apples while shopping a specific price range.

Luxury vinyl planks have two basic installation methods. The predominate method is using a full spread adhesive. This is the most common type of application and is not recommended as a do it yourself project. The other installation type is a self adhering type. Do not confuse this with peel and stick. Peel and stick are a lower grade of vinyl and will almost always come up and usually have to be replaced within 3 years. The peel and stick types stick directly to the floor. The true luxury vinyl planks that are self adhering, stick to each other, not the floor. These luxury vinyl planks usually have a lip on two edges and a recessed lip on the other two edges that have a factory applied glue. You use the lips to glue the tiles together and not the floor. Currently Konnecto, Armstrong Luxe, and some styles by Amtico are the only valid offerings with this type of self adhering, do it yourself installation system.

There are several finishes available in luxury wood looking vinyl planks. A smooth finish is what most consumers are familiar with. However, you can get a more realistic floor by using a plank that has a ribbed, hand scraped (simulated) or finish with registered embossing. These finishes give the plank a more wood look and style by adding texture to go along with the color and wood species. If you haven’t seen a sample of a luxury flooring vinyl plank with registered embossing, make sure you check one out before you make a final purchase, it’s pretty impressive.

5 Steps to a Solid Self Improvement Plan

Self improvement is not merely a subject of academic interest pursued by a handful of erudite people. It is something that can be practically followed by each one of us to improve our lives or achieve a specific goal. A self improvement plan is comprised of a series of steps that can be taken to improve one’s skill and abilities in order to make the desired change.

It is important to realize that self improvement begins as soon as the “self” in you assumes control of your life. Many among us fail to improve our lives even after reading hundreds of self-help books simply because the motivation must come from within.

Although there are no specific set of rules applicable to self improvement because every individual has different goals, there are some common steps you can follow.

1. Accept: Contrary to popular opinion, acceptance is not the same as capitulation. Acceptance helps you to acknowledge the existence of a problem. This acknowledgment allows you to put things in perspective and gives a sense of direction. You cannot resolve a problem if you do not believe it exists.

2. Make a plan: This is the most important part of any successful self improvement plan. Be specific about what you want to do and outline practical steps for its implementation. At the same time, your plan must be able to adapt to any unforeseen changes coming your way. Stubbornness is different from resilience, so be flexible about plans. But do not lose sight of the big picture.

3. Seek help: Self improvement does not mean that you must do everything by yourself. Involve your family, friends, mentors and peers in this life changing process and see the difference. There is no shame in seeking assistance from those who care about us.

4. Implement and celebrate: It is now time for you to take the practical steps outlined during your plan formulation. Divide your target into a set of smaller goals and take realistic steps. This will enable you to steer clear of frustration. Also, recognize and celebrate every success of yours, regardless of how insignificant it may be. Some people are so focused on the eventual goal that they forget to celebrate small successes along the way.

5. Reassess your plan: Keep reassessing the plan periodically and make relevant changes in order to avoid stagnation. It is also important to reassess your target from time to time as you might have already reached it and it is time for you to set newer goals.

These are some of the ways in which you can make and implement your self improvement plan. Remember, only you have the power to make the desired difference in your life.

How to Make a Handrail For Your Back Steps

Making a handrail for your back steps requires a few basic tools assuming the rail is to be made of wood. A few basic handrail guidelines must be followed. According to the International Residential Building Code, open sided stairs shall have handrails not less the thirty-four (34) inches measured vertically from the tread nosing and not more than thirty-six (36) inches in height total to the top of the rail. Our local codes require two handrails for any stairs over thirty-six inches wide. It seems to make people feel much safer with two hand rails. There are many fancy pre-formed handrails available in your lumber yards today. Already shaped and sanded, they do eliminate some of the grunge work of building your own hand rails.

To make an inexpensive handrail you will need some four inch by four inch, pressure treated posts and some two inch by four inch by at least as long as the stairs material for the top rail and side rails. Four inch lag bolts or threaded rod with nuts and washers, a good drill, ratchet and socket for the lags, a circular saw with a sharp blade, tape measure, four foot carpenters level and and a pencil. A chalk line comes in very handy when it is time to cut the tops of the posts to their finished height. The overall length of the stairs will of course determine how many posts you will need. An eight foot set of stairs would have three posts. One at each end and one at a four foot center. Keep your support posts at four foot centers for maximum strength of the handrail. Cut your four by fours in lengths long enough to reach from the bottom of the stringer to at least thirty four inches above the stringer in a plumb line. For a thirty-five (35 1/2) and half inch height above the stringer the post would be forty-seven and a half inches long (47 1/2).

After cutting all the posts, lay them out on a pair of saw horses. Take one post and hold it in position on the side of the stair stringer. (a little help here would be great). Holding the post flush with the bottom of the stringer, plumb the post and carefully mark the stringer slope on the four by four post. If at all possible, place your vertical posts between the treads so the post cuts can be sloped and not flat. Measure from the pencil mark up vertically making sure that when you install the two by four top handrail, the overall height above the tread nosings is between thirty four and thirty six inches from the nosing of the tread. Once you are sure you have marked your sample correctly, return it to the saw horses. You want to cut and remove one half of the posts width for the full height of the stringer. The notch you cut will have a sloped top. Back to the stairs and test fit the post. If when the post is plumbed and the sloped cut is sitting directly on top of the stringer your vertical measurements are correct, go ahead and cut all the rest of the posts the same way. I like to use three lag bolts per post to prevent twisting although many contractors use only two. If you are through bolting the posts, two rods should be sufficient.

Now install all your posts. (get your helper back for this part). Once all the posts are installed and lag bolts tightened, using your chalk line you want to strike a chalk line from the top to the bottom post on the slope of the finished rail. Measure up from the nearest tread thirty four inches and make a mark on the top and bottom posts. Connect the two marks with the chalk line and snap it. Doing it this way will assure the top handrail is in a flat condition and does not go up and down at each post due to slight differences in the stair tread heights. Overall it all will be the same. Now carefully cut the posts off at the sloped chalk line marks. If possible use one piece of two by four for the handrail. Making mid-point joints is tough to do on top of a four inch wide post but it is possible. If you do, remember to bevel cut the adjoining ends at a forty five degree angle with the top angle sitting on top of the bottom one you will have a great joint and when sanded less chance of a splinter.

Install your top rail leaving two inches overhanging the first post. Screw the rail in place and with your helper holding the other end of the rail piece, they can bow the two by four back and forth to make it center over the post despite any bowing in the lumber itself. Screw the railing in place as you go and it will stay there. Cut off the excess rail leaving the same two inch overhang as the bottom of the rail. Now you want to add another two by four under the top railing on the outside of the posts and directly under the top rail. this will help keep the rail straight over time.

A variation here if money allows, is to use a two by six inch top rail. It does provide more surface area to grab on to. You can now add a bottom side rail, balusters, decorative lattice or what ever you wish and can afford, to your new posts and handrails.

How to Install Iron Or Metal Balusters in Wood Handrails

As promised I am putting forward information on the installation of iron balusters. During the day, one of the most common questions I get from customers is the how to of iron baluster installation.

Many building codes require three balusters on a tread to comply with the 4″ sphere rule. Check with your local code officials if you have any doubts about your stair’s compliance.

First, I let the customer know that the very last thing in balustrade installation is the iron balusters. It simply works well to install the newel posts, handrail, treads and risers first. Once installed layout the balusters on the floor and use a level to plumb up to the handrail center and mark the connection at the center bottom of the handrail. Using a ½” paddle or spade bit one can drill upward 1″ deep into the handrail. Using a 5/8″ paddle bit drill a hole no more than ¼” deep into the floor. Once these are drilled out the bottom of the handrail can be sanded with an orbital sander and the complete balustrade system can be stained and finished. Once the stain and finish is completed one can begin installing the iron balusters.

One of the following two tools is recommended for cutting iron or metal balusters: a power miter box with a metal cutting blade, or a portable band saw. My preference is the portable band saw. It works cleaner, is more portable, and doesn’t cause sparking as does the power miter box (or chop saw).

Turn the baluster upside down and set the round dowel top into the hole in the floor, holding the baluster plumb to the hole under the handrail. Mark the baluster with a pencil, measure up 3/8″ minimum and that would be the cut mark. Note that you are cutting off the bottom, not the top, of the baluster. This ensures proper alignment of the design elements.

For gluing the installer has two options: Epoxy or construction adhesive. My personal preference is construction adhesive as I have more control over the product and, if it gets messy, wipes away easily and can also serve as a caulk around the iron. Epoxy comes in the mixing tubes and doesn’t always mix properly. If it gets messy and dried, removing the epoxy also removes the powder coating on the iron. Some carpenters prefer and have their own control over epoxy. I do not. I find construction adhesives easier to work with.

Squeeze a small amount of the adhesive into the hole under the handrail. The adhesive is thick and slow and will not drain back out, giving time to complete the installation. Make sure the shoe for the iron baluster is slid up while installing. Push baluster’s round dowel up into the ½” hole under the handrail and then drop it into the 5/8″ hole in the floor in a bed of additional construction adhesive. Square off the baluster’s alignment then drop the shoe down to the floor. If the shoe comes with a set screw, use an Allen wrench to tighten it. The glue in the handrail hole will settle around the baluster creating a perfect seal. Once the glue has dried the baluster will be well secured, even helping to strengthen the handrails load.

When installing 5/8″ iron balusters the process is identical, one only needs to drill a 5/8″ hole under the handrail and a ¾” hole at the floor. 5/8″ iron is ideal in remodeling work, when replacing wood balusters. Most installed wood balusters have a 5/8″ hole under the handrail and a ¾” hole at the floor. If replacing wood balusters with ½” iron it is usually recommended to install shoes under the handrail to cover a small square peg in a larger round hole. The use of wood or cabinet screws helps to lock the baluster in, serving as both a wedge and forcing the baluster on center.

Round 5/8″ iron or metal balusters can be installed without shoes simply by drilling a 5/8″ hole into the handrail and into the floor and following the same procedure outlined above.

I have been asked about making the holes square. It is possible with a little more work. To cut the square hole in the floor or handrail, drill a round hole in the wood the same size at the baluster’s overall width. Then chisel out the hole to make it square. Another option is a “mortising bit.” I have not used one of these but have spoken with carpenters who have. Their comment tends to be that this method is a “pain in the you know what.”

Balustrading Ideas and Designs

A balustrade is the combination of baluster and handrail. It is a row of recurring balusters. Balusters are erect pillars or small posts that perform the function of providing support to the railing. The important thing to consider is that the minimum distance between the pillars of a balustrade should be four inches. It can be made up of different materials like iron, stone, wood, glass, plaster or polystyrene. Balustrades are usually used for stairs, floor openings, balconies/terraces, pools and porches.

Balustrade is a very important part of homes. It not only makes the home attractive but safe as well. Its significance is greater in homes where little kids are present because if the kid goes to the terrace which has no balustrade, he/she can fall down accidentally.

The home looks unique if a balustrade is fitted on stairs despite of cemented wall. If somebody wants to give a new look to his/her home, then changing the balustrade with a more modern design is always a good idea. It also increases the worth of property.

The selection of a specific type of railing depends on the location of the railing; whether it is outdoors or indoors. The most common type of balustrade is made up of wood. The very fine quality of wood is used for making balusters. People living in rural area can use logs as well.

In very modern buildings, glass is often used for balustrade. It is a new idea that has become very popular to make the home striking. Glass balustrade can be suitable for any decoration of the home and does not require time-to-time paint or maintenance. The main difference between the balustrade made up of glass and other materials is that there is no spacing in glass balustrades. The glass is treated with heat to make it more strong and safe to use. The glass balustrade allows sunlight to come in the home easily. In residential buildings or homes, wire balustrades are used which give an elegant look as well as provide safety to the residents.

Aluminium balustrades and stainless steel balustrades are also available in the market in different colors. People have an opportunity to match the color of balustrade with the paint of home to make their home more beautiful.

Selection of balustrade is a crucial task for home owners. There could be many designs available in the market which seems attractive but to make it unique and different from others, people can add some innovative ideas and creativity in the designs. It should be taken into consideration that the choice of balustrade depends on the architectural design of the home. That balustrade should be selected that will be suitable to the building structure.

The designs of balustrades can vary according to the choice of owner. Some people like traditional designs and the retailers also often customized designs where take the customers ideas on paper in form of drawing and then make the balustrade according to that design.

Stair Banisters – Protect Your Family

A number of posts known as balusters support the upper rail of the stair banisters. Places like museums, manor houses and public buildings have huge balustrades. These balustrades are often made up of concrete or stone. Balustrades are known to be the oldest form of banisters. As compared to the banisters of yesterday years, banisters of today’s era are far lighter in weight.

Often the first thing that a visitor looks at when he/she enters your house is the staircase. Hence you need to take that extra bit of care in maintaining your staircase. By making use of the banisters, you can make your staircase look nothing less than stunning. Usually, when we are thinking of improving the house or about renovating the house, we often forget about the staircase. You need to make sure that you give your staircase its due respect.

Having a good looking staircase can add a lot of value to your house. You can yourself be very creative when it comes to designing your staircase. You can choose the right kind of banisters for your house. You can opt for an old, antique looking banister in case your house has a lot of old furniture. On the other hand, you can even go for a new, modern looking banister if your house demands so.

Wood is the material that is commonly used for making banisters. Wood helps in giving the banisters a rich and glowing look. The best thing about a wooden banister is the fact that, banisters made up of wood look good both in the old form as well as in the new contemporary form. Apart from wood, material like maple, oak and beech is also used to make banisters.

Another material that makes the stair banister look elegant is Wrought Iron. Initially, wrought iron was only used in the making of doors. Later on, wrought iron was used for stair banisters. Wrought iron is known to be a highly decorative material. Nowadays, people prefer having wrought iron balusters with wooden banister handrail. The combination of wood and wrought iron gives the stair banister a perfect look.

Staircase is something that is often neglected when it comes to styling. You need to make sure that you invest some time and money to make your staircase look beautiful. A good looking staircase will only increase the charm of your house.

Stair Banisters serve as protective measures for the people who use the stair cases. Stair Banisters are nothing but railings which are situated at the side of the stair case. Banisters prevent death and injuries as they prevent a person from falling. You must be encountering stair banisters almost everyday. Stair banisters are available in many different styles. They are available in modern complex structures and at the same time they are also available in simple pipe like structures. You can choose a stair banister according to your taste and the structure of your house.

Good Stair Parts For a Good Staircase

When we look into a home, we often tend to forget to look at the things that are more essential, things that we need give attention to so that we might improve them. Well maybe you should start to check your home and see things that you might develop.

It is a fact that a house built with more than one level should have a staircase, a construction designed to bridge a large vertical distance by dividing it into smaller vertical distances, called steps. There are different types of staircases, of course it depends on what the owner of the house likes, the general shape, construction method, materials, design and other features that differentiate one from another. And if you want to have good staircase, good stair parts are necessities.

All of the time, a staircase is used often for they connect each floor. They are used in order to go up or down in the house. Because of this it became an integral part of a house. Some staircases are factory made and are shipped and installed in your home by carpenters, others are built in place and customized by some with the help of woodworkers, carpenters, or stair makers to make it more personalized. It can be narrow or wide, steep or gradual, grand and showy, or purely functional. It is also important to know its stair parts and the materials used for it as well, because you can never be so sure if your stair is good or not. Some believes that having good stairs means having good stair parts. Well they are definitely right.

The design of the stair is heavily affected by its function, different designs have different functions. Staircases like those in hotels are being used most of the time that is why they placed in a more visible area and are bigger than those staircase used by few or those that are placed in basements. Spiral staircases are used to give more style, artsy, and elegance. Now a days stairs have the same stair parts whatever the type is. The way the stair parts are built and combined will determine its style and structure that people desires for their home.

Not all stairways have exactly the same stair parts; take the stairs that have open risers for an example. There are basic rules and principles that need to be followed in building staircases in order to make them safe from danger.

Selecting the best stair parts gives you the best staircase with all the style and functions that you want. Stairways can give a big impact on the overall look of your home, which is why more people would like to have the best staircase.

The staircase is one of the most important parts of a more than one story home so we really should look at it and improve them for they don’t just gives style to your house but also because it has a great importance in one’s home.

What is a Content Switch?

This article explains what a network content switch is and it also outlines the main benefits of using them in your business network. This type of switch is very expensive so its normally medium to large enterprise scale businesses who use them.

The main function of a content switch is to inspect the network data that it receives so that it can decide where on the network that data (or request) needs to be forwarded to. Once this is determined the data is sent to the appropriate server which can handle the data abed return a response if needed. At a network level the data in the request is divided up into packets.

In most cases the switch looks to see what type of application or software the request is targeted at. It does this by looking to see what port the requests is directed at. For example if the data is targeted at an ftp port then the request will be sent to an ftp sever. The main benefit of this approach is that the switch acts as a load ba lancer as it can balance data or requests across the different type of application servers used by the business. In simplified terms and application server is a server that runs an application like ftp or a mail server.

A second major function that this type of switch can perform is to look at the incoming requests and see which websites are targeted. This is important for large enterprises or hosting companies. If for example a web hosting company was hosting several thousand websites the switch could direct requests to the specific servers that the websites are running on. If this did not happen the hosting company would have to run every website on every server.

So in simple terms a content switch is a network device that is used to distribute incoming requests to the servers or websites that can handle the requests.

Frontal Baldness – Treatment For Frontal Thinning Hair With Rogaine, Propecia, And A Hair Transplant

If you have started to notice your hair thinning and frontal baldness beginning then you need to know that it is not the end of the world. Frontal male baldness is a condition that, if dealt with quickly and properly, can be cured. Frontal hair loss is something that over 75% of men will deal with at some point in their lifetime. Of course if you are a younger man then this can be more difficult on you psychologically and socially. No one wants to be the only guy at the party with frontal thinning hair. Luckily today I will tell you about a frontal baldness treatment, including some good information about Propecia, Rogaine, and frontal hair transplant options.

Frontal hair loss

Frontal hair loss can occur in both men and women. You may start to notice the peak of your hairline slowly receding back. Some men experience a widow’s peak as the hair on the side of their forehead seems to fall back into the scalp. Don’t be too worried about this. There are lots of very handsome celebrities with frontal baldness like Jude Law and Jack Nicholson. They have showed off their thinning hair with strength and courage.

Frontal male baldness

Of course men lose their hair more than women do. This is due to an excess of testosterone in men that causes the hair to die off quicker. Just think of yourself as being more manly if you don’t have a lot of hair on the frontal part of your head.

Frontal baldness – Provillus

Provillus is like Minoxidil as it will help stop your hair from falling out or slow down the process. Unfortunately men have experienced mixed results with this kind of treatment. Some say it works wonders, but then others have been complaining that it causes chest pain and heart conditions. I’m sure you already know that there isn’t any fool-proof cure. If there really was one then frontal baldness wouldn’t be a problem at all.

Frontal baldness – Rogaine

Rogaine has been used for frontal baldness for years, as it is the most trusted anti-hair loss drug. The thing is that Rogaine works much better on baldness in the crown areas than it does for frontal baldness. That is why I would feel much better recommending the following drug.

Propecia is most likely the best cure for frontal baldness. Why do I say that? Well, Propecia will stop the whole balding process right in its tracks. It is well-known to slow down baldness and even to make hair grow back in some instances. Frontal thinning hair has also been seen to grow back after using Propecia, but as I said before, it is much more useful for other kinds of hair loss.

Frontal Hair Transplant

The most drastic frontal baldness treatment you can choose is a frontal hair transplant. What is this? Well, what they do is cut a patch of skin off the back of your head that has hair growing on it. They then stitch that up, leaving a thin scar that is not visible as long as you don’t shave your head. They then take that patch of hair and surgically implant it onto the front of your head where the frontal baldness is occurring.

A Home Remedy For Blackhead Removal

We’ve all seen the adverts and websites for the various brands of blackhead extractors and blackhead removers and although they seem like the easy way to remove the unsightly blackheads, the sad fact of the matter is that most of them just don’t work. In fact, if these tools are used incorrectly, they can end up damaging your skin.

A good home remedy for blackhead removal uses 4 tablespoons of baking soda and 4 tablespoons of water.

Blend these two together and then rub onto your skin in a gentle motion. Let it sit there on the skin surface for 2 – 3 minutes and then rinse off with warm water.

Next, mix 1 teaspoon of Epsom salts into a ¼ cup of boiling water and three drops of iodine. Allow this mixture to cool to a comfortable temperature. Then dip in a clean and fresh cotton ball and dab it onto the affected areas.

All this will allow the blackheads to free up and loosen off. Use a gauze pad or clean tissue to gently squeeze the blackhead. The word GENTLY is important.

Blackheads are formed when natural skin oil known as seburn collects and solidifies in the skin pores. The bunged up toxins that are coming up through the skin surface from the blood and lymph fluids mixes with the seburn and forms a pasty lotion. The lotion becomes black when it exposed to air and the tip of it forms the black pimple we call the blackhead.

The removal of blackheads is important as it may lead to other types of spots forming, especially in people who have naturally oily skin. You must try to keep the surface of the skin clean and clear.

Hence blackheads removal is very important especially for oily type of skin otherwise pimples, acne may occur. The skin’s most dense oil glands are located in T-zone. That is why there you get the most blackheads. It is most important to keep the skin scrupulously clean.

When the blackhead looks ready to pop, try using a pore cleansing strip, Used regularly, these strips can leave your skin pores both smaller and cleaner.

If you feel like you really need to squeeze the blackhead only do so very gently on a blackhead which looks like it is just about to blow. If you try to squeeze a blackhead which is hard, you may end up pushing the infection down below the surface of the skin. Not good.

Another home remedy for blackhead removal

Use an oatmeal or use of an almond mask thoroughly to cleanse and clear your face. Mix either oatmeal or almond powder with an adequate amount of rose water to result in a soft paste that you can apply easily on the affected areas of the skin. Gently rub the mixture on your skin with the tips of your fingers, spending extra time on the problem areas. Leave the mixture to dry like a face pack for about 15 minutes and then rinse off using only cold water.

My Top 5 Solutions to Protect the Brighton i360 Facade

The i360 vertical pier is a revolutionary structure, design and attraction for Brighton & Hove. A 162m vertical façade constructed around a 980 tonne steel frame and finished externally with an anodised aluminium cladding façade. It’s thought (or should I say hoped) that the anodised element will withstand the sea salts and wind.

The pier was designed by architects David Marks & Julia Barfield, designers and architects of the London Eye, and the most popular paid attraction in the UK.

From a façade design perspective it’s an amazing feat, the engineering solutions and approach to its construction is set to create a new icon for one of England’s most popular seaside towns. The i360 vertical pier will house the world’s tallest moving observation tower at 138m, it will be the tallest and slimmest vertical façade tower in the world.

With such an iconic structure and investment, I wonder how much time or energy has been applied to proactively protecting the façade skin and to enhancing its predicted lifespan and condition beyond the architects’ and investors’ expectations?

So how can the i360 façade be protected to enhance the ROI and lifespan of the building?

Here are my top 5 solutions:

1) Don’t take for granted that the anodised cladding will withstand the weather conditions. Real exposure and localised conditions will deliver varied weather patterns throughout. Previous test trials should only be used a guideline of façade and curtain wall weathering.

2) Façade performance can only be optimised within a proactive and façade condition inspection framework. Manage the building envelope holistically, don’t just clean the glass so that it ‘looks’ clean. Regular façade inspection activity will help build a real catalogue of information related to the facade weathering or corrosion. Proactive maintenance will out-perform any ad hoc inspections and limit expensive repairs. This can be achieved through specific routes of access, drones or rope access.

3) Regularly wash down the anodised cladding façade to remove the accumulation of salts within a proactive facade management programme. Do not allow the salts to build, it’s likely they could break down the coating over a period of time, especially during summer months under the heat of the sun.

4) Apply a specialist hydrophobic protective coating to the anodised aluminium cladding façade which will form a robust barrier and reduce the rate at which the salts can adhere to the façade skin. The coating will also protect the aluminium cladding from salts, sea spray, organic build up and UV damage. Any protective coating applied during the construction phase is likely to weather, so a regular application will help protect the façade performance and aesthetic condition.

5) This is about the context of façade protection rather than the content. By considering the context it generally helps gives more value and meaning to a wider variety of people involved within the project and helps create a common ground for façade investment protection. The context for i360 could be “visitor experience, safety, façade performance & ROI”.
