Projection Televisions 101

Projection televisions have been around for quite some time now. When first introduced, the images created by these sets were fuzzy and only viewable at a distance. As great strides in TV technology have been made, projection TV images have become sharper and more comparable to those of their competitors.

For people in the market for a large screen TV, either for a home theater system or a classroom / boardroom presentation setting, a Projection TV is the most efficient choice.
CRT or cathode ray tube set's size maxes out around 40 ", and at that size they are extremely heavy and bulky. only manageable but affordable.

Projection televisions have four main components: a projector, screen, control panel, and a sound system. There are two main types of projectors used for these TVs: a transmissive projector, where light shines through the image forming element (CRT tube, LCD panel), and a reflective projector in which light is bounced off of the image forming element. In both projectors, a lens obtains the image from the image forming element, magnifies the image and focuses it onto a screen. Top of the line projection TVs use primarily reflective projectors because the advances in reflective projector technology of late have been more progressive than those relating to transmissive projector technology.

The image forming elements used in transmissive projectors are CRTs and LCDs. TVs using a CRT for projection actually have a small (around 9 "diagonal) television built in. A lens in front of this small, extremely bright CRT TV magnifies the image and projects it onto the screen. Transmissive projectors using an LCD for projection are substantially lighter with a higher resolution capacity than their CRT counterparts. lamp, the image on the panel is transmitted through a magnifying lens and projected onto a screen.

Reflective projectors use a small reflective chip to form the image. When light shines on this chip, it is reflected off of it, through a projection lens and onto the screen. The most exciting developments in projection TV technology have been made with reflective projectors using micro-electromechanical systems and liquid crystal on silicon.

With advances in LCD and MEM technologies, projectors will become smaller and form closer competition between projection TVs and the new plasma displays, in areas such as resolution and crispness of image detail. A relatively new application of projection TV technology is, "virtual reality", in which the viewer feels surrounded by, or as though he / she is a part of, the image being viewed. Projection TVs may not be the next big thing to hit the shelves, but we can be sure they will continue to be a viable, low priced option when shopping for your new TV.

Hammer Toes and Foot Pain

When the toe of a foot gets bent on the middle of the digit, there arises a condition that is commonly referred to as Hammer toe. This condition targets the second, third and fifth toe of the foot most often. However, it should clearly not be confused with another condition known as "mallet toe", which is just a condition on the upper joint of a digit.

People, who wear high heels or footwear that ill fits around the toe box, or something similar, are the ones who are affected the most by these conditions. This does not mean that well structured dogs do not cause problems, because the foot is still crammed into the box of the shoe and that's because of the extreme angle of the foot. The culprit is the toe that gets forced against the shoe, and this causes the hammer toes to rise. Inheritance also plays a role in Hammer toes as do injury to the foot, diabetic neuropathy, or arthritis or strokes.

As a result of the protruding joints rubbing against the shoe, calluses or corn can develop and there is the possibility of deforming as well as pain while walking, which are a direct consequence of Hammer toes. When you indulge in physical activities with weight upon your feet, you can experience pain and difficulty in walking, also, it means that trying out other footwear would pose a hindrance because of the deformity of the foot.

If debilitating events, which is your difficulty in walking and regular activities, or if the pain becomes chronic enough, with the toes developing a clenched, claw like appearance, it is highly recommended that you enlist the services of a doctor. Another difficulty with hammer toes is that while initially flexible, the tendons of the toe ever harden out and this directly makes the treatment of hammer toes all the more difficult.

One of the first steps to treating the hammer toe is changing the footwear, and the use of foot orthotics ensures that the feet are always placed in the most appropriate way to reduce pressure on the awkward areas. The same goes for shoes; they should not restrict the foot and should have at least an inch of spacing between the foot and the shoe wall. Also recommended is the simple fact that feet and toes must be stretched as an exercise so as to make the crooked digits more strong in muscle and tendons, so that they do not stiffen.

There are conservative treatments that do not involve surgery and they do take time, but they are most definitely recommended, but there are severe cases where the toe does not respond to the traditional methods and for them surgery is the only option. Rest assured that you will not need to stay at the hospital no matter what the severity of the hammer toe and the corresponding surgery may be. You need to stop certain activities after the surgery is done for several weeks, and there may be swelling that pains and stiffness too, with the toe appearing longer or shorter than the original. But that's about it

You are better off with conservative treatments and other non surgical methods to cure the hammer foot, such as exercises and stretching. Surgery is only recommended in extreme cases where there's no way out.

Two Tone Grouting

Having glass mosaic tile installed in your home is a wonderful addition. It not only makes the space beautiful but it also increases the value of your home. The tile must be installed and grouted properly though. If the wrong color grout is used, your project will turn out horrible. Sometimes picking the right grout color can be very difficult especially if you have a lot of different colors in the same installation. Here are a couple of scenarios.

Let's say that you put up white glass mosaic tile in your bathroom. Then you decide to put black tile on the floor. When it comes to time to grout, you may have some trouble deciding on a color. If you choose a light grout for the white tiles then the black will look very broken. However if you choose a dark grout for the black tiles, the whites will look broken.

Now let's say that you are going to create a cool mosaic stripe look. You will run stripes of three colors down the wall; red, white, and dark gray. Once again, you have a grout color problem. If you choose a dark gray grout then the white will be severely broken up. Too light and the gray will look horrible.

So what do you do? Two tone grouting is the answer. Simply grout each section separately. You will need that blue painters tape and lots of newspaper or craft paper. It is recommended to grout with the dark grout first so it can not stain the lighter grout. Carefully tape off the sections that are being grouted first. Make sure you have a clean line of tape so your grout joint is straight. Now completely cover the section that you do not want to grout with the newspaper. Take no chances as grouting can be very messy.

Grout all the sections that need the dark grout and wipe it down completely. Make sure to pull the tape off within 10 minutes. Totally clean up all the dark grout so you do not accidently get it mixed in with the lighter grout. Wait until the dark grout has set up. Now repeat the steps with the light grout.

You are finished and have great looking grout joints that no one will see because they should be focused on your tile work instead!

Her Most Famous Painting (Big Raven) – Emily Carr

Described as ‘Canadian Icon,’ painter Emily Carr (1871-1945) was a writer and a leading ‘Expressionist,’ whose works often carried the shades of ‘Impressionism’ and ‘Fauvism.’ She pioneered the artistic representations of Canadian native life, mostly through landscape art. Carr infused life into her art through bold and visionary displays, with accent on green and blue. Many-a-times, a strong and marked influence of the renowned ‘Group of Seven’ could be identified in her paintings. Emily’s choicest work considered is the “Big Raven,” created in 1931.

Unlike her favorite medium of watercolors used in her earliest works, “Big Raven” painting belongs to the genre of her oil works on canvas. Measuring 87.3 cm X 114.4 cm, this painting is currently a part of the collection at the Vancouver Art Gallery, British Columbia. In line with Carr’s characteristic style, the piece is a reflective work in deeper overtones. As the name suggests, the protagonist in the painting is a bird, highlighted in larger-than-life proportions. The theme is focused on the fast approaching end of the being, and the fact that it has accepted its fate gracefully. The towering figure of the bird is portrayed as looking away from the viewer towards the left side of the painting, and standing in waiting for its demise. The fallen leaves at the feet of the “Big Raven” are delineated in a very powerful manner, giving them a wave like appearance. These waves seem to threaten to engulf the majestic creature.

Through “Big Raven,” Carr has tried to represent the culmination of life back into the ‘whole,’ from which it was originally created, i.e. Mother Nature. Certainly, the brushstrokes and the graded shading employed for the foliage in green and occasionally yellow, coupled with an austere, relatively darker sky, add to a mystic depth in an already philosophical setting. Carr had divulged that her idea behind the work was to signify the grim state of a lonely raven, whose partner was long dead, waiting for its turn amidst decay and rot. Despite the spotlight on the role of a higher power on the destiny of living creatures, Carr has not allowed powerlessness to creep into her portrayal of the protagonist. The piece is a remake and purportedly, an ‘improved’ version of her watercolor work ‘Cumshewa,’ painted about 20 years earlier. With, its sheer gravity and the darkness that envelops it, “Big Raven” came to be recognized as a masterwork of profound theme, which continues to intrigue its viewers, just as much as it did at the time of its debut.

Cleaning Your Crystal Chandeliers at Home

Crystal chandeliers are a fancy decorative piece you can include in a home. They are hung for years in hallways, lobbies, or even in the living room of your own homes. Crystal chandeliers are very attractive decorations because of the shine and sparkle they create. But as time passes and dust begins to coat these crystals, they begin to lose their natural luster. Here, a call for cleaning is made.

Since crystals will not tarnish or fade with normal cleaning techniques, you can conveniently do the clean-up at home. However, you need to follow the proper way of cleaning them to ensure that your chandelier will be at its best condition after the cleaning process. This article will serve as your guide in cleaning your crystal chandeliers at home.

The White Glove Technique

The white glove method does not need you to remove the crystal pieces from the chandelier. By preparing a solution and mixing it in a bottle, you can clean your crystal chandelier at an instant. Three parts of distilled water is mixed in a spray bottle with one part of isopropyl alcohol. This will serve as your cleaning solution for the crystal chandelier.

When the solution is already prepared, you can don your white cotton gloves and start cleaning the crystal piece by piece. Spray an amount amount of the above solution on one gloved hand and let the other remain dry. Caiss the crystal with the wet glove and dry it using your other hand. After which, you've notice that the crystal slowly returns to its normal sparkle.

Crystal Removal Method

If you find the white glove method not sufficient enough to clean the whole chandelier, you can choose to remove the entire lighting system and clean it. You can only detach it from the ceiling through removing the trim. Always locate the trim first so you'll know how to reassemble it later on. When you have removed the chandelier, wash the crystal pieces on warm and sudsy water. Use mild soap for the crystals and dry them afterwards with the use of cloth.

The crystal removal method is done by many home owners who have long wanted to detach the crystal chandelier from their ceilings. Once you have cleaned the chandelier, daily maintenance is required to avoid them from getting filthy again.

Whichever method you choose, remember to handle the crystal pieces with care. Carefully hold all the pieces since everything is easily breakable. By exercising extreme caution in every step you make, you'll avoid breaks in your crystal pieces.

Garden Tools – Are You Missing Some of the Essential Gardening Tools?

Every gardener has a set of tools he or she can not do without. These supplies are as very much a part of the gardener as the flowers and plants he or she grows. Among the many gardening supplies, the essentials are the shovel, spade, hoe and prying bar. Add to these a hardy wheelbarrow and some watering cans or a garden hose.

Shovels are useful and versatile and they are capable to handle a variety of chores. A gardener depends on their shovel to help dig up daylilies and rose bushes. This garden tool is also helpful when compost needs to be spread about or when holes need to be dug for new plants. The garden spade is smaller and is commonly used to help prepare a garden or flower bed.

There is no better tool than the hoe when it comes to removing weeds and working in a vegetable garden. This lightweight instrument is perfectly suited for cultivating the soil in both flower beds and veggie plots. People depend upon a prying bar to help them remove stones and rocks from their freshly tilled soil. This makes the work of gardening much easier to handle. The wheelbarrow is like having an assistant helping you? Fetch and carry? compost, blocks, mulch and other items to the different areas where they are needed. Because mulch and compost is required in so many bedding areas around the yard a wheelbarrow is considered a very essential piece of gardening equipment.

To protect hands from chapping, cuts and scratches, most gardeners prefer to use gardening gloves. These can keep your hands and fingernails free from dirt and protect expensive manicures. You can find gloves that are waterproof and others that are made from heavy leather, It is up to you to select the ones that are most suited for the type of work you are doing. If you are pruning roses or working with thorn bearing plants the elbow length gloves provide the most protection for your hands and arms.

Seeds of flowers, vegetables, and herbs are as much a part of the garden as the soil in which they grow. Ornamental accessories such as decorated flower pots, flower baskets, and water fountains also serve to enhance.

There can be no thriving garden without clean water and sunlight. Lightweight watering cans with the long spouts are the perfect way to sprinkle a gentle shower of water over young plants and new seedlings. For larger sections of land a good garden hose with an adjustable spray is an efficient and reliable way to give the plants and soil the water that they need.

Locate the greenhouse in a healthy dose of sunlight. All-day sunlight is best, but morning sunlight coming from the east side would do for most plants. Morning sunlight allows the plant's food production process known as photosynthesis to start early such growth growth becomes maximized. Lighting supplies contribute just the right amount of heat and moisture for plants to thrive.

Tools need a storage shed so that they can be arranged neatly and be protected from rain and snow. Storage sheds can be used for gardening tasks as well. If your shed is large enough you could even place a potting bench. This would give you some additional storage space and the smooth work surface could be used for a variety of chores including re-potting your plants. When the day ends it is time for all happy gardeners to call it a night, put things away and prepare for a new day.

Get A Toro Power Shovel 38361 To Remove And Clear Snow Off Your Deck And Balcony

The Toro Power Shovel 38361 is easily my favorite tool during the winter time. Exception on those days when we get a foot of wet heavy snow, then my gas-powered Toro snow blower gets all my love. But in this article, I wanted to share a specific situation where the Toro 38361 Power Shovel is the best and only tool for the job: removing snow off your deck and balcony.

Why clear the snow off your deck or balcony?

First, it can only help maintain the structure and integrity of your deck and balcony by removing heavy snow. That's a lot of weight for it to hold all winter long.

Second, you can definitely enjoy some time out on the deck and balcony during the cold winter months. My daughter and I would bundle up on a clear night, and drink some hot cocoa starring at the stars. They seem to be brighter in the winter for some reason, I do not know why. And I definitely find many days through winter grilling on the deck. It's a popular thing for my family to do Sunday afternoon during football parties.

Why the Toro Power Shovel 38361?

This power shovel weighs less than 13 pounds, so it's a cinch to lift and carry it to your deck or up to your balcony. Carrying a heavier gas-powered blower is not an option, especially if you're deck is more than a few steps up. And forget about carrying a heavy snow blower up to your balcony.

Also the surprising power from the Toro 38361 does a great job throwing the snow up and over deck rails. It's back-breaking work to manually shovel and clear snow over 3-feet high deck rails. But the Toro Power Shovel easily and effortlessly throws snow over deck and balcony rails.

Quick tip: this may seem obvious, but clear your balcony first, particularly if its above your driveway or deck. Otherwise, you may end up throwing snow back on an area that you just plowed (like I did … twice actually).

Where can you get the best deal?

Like many products today, the best deals are found online. Particularly for the Toro Power Shovel 38361, because of its popularity and reputation, it often sells out in local retail stores too.

Craft an Effective Elevator Speech

An elevator speech is an overview of an idea for a product, service, or project. The name reflects the fact that an elevator speech can be delivered in the time span of an elevator ride (for example, thirty seconds or 100-150 words). The idea of an "elevator speech" is to have a prepared presentation that grabs attention and says a lot in a few words.

It is said that many of the most important decisions made on the floor of the United States' House or Senate are made "within the span of an elevator ride" as a staff aide whispers into a Congressman or Senator's ear while they head down to the floor to cast their vote.

Do you remember the key scene in the movie Working Girl when Melanie Griffith's character delivers her elevator pitch (literally done in the elevator)?

An effective elevator speech comes in handy when you attend an event, a conference, a convention, or some other type of meeting with networking opportunities. You will notice that one of the first questions people ask is, "And, what do you do?" "Oh, I'm a lawyer … or an accountant … or a consultant … or an artist …" "Oh, that's nice," and immediately label you in their mind with all of the stereotypes that they perceive those occupations carry with them. However, if you turn your message around and start with an answer like, "I work with small businesses that are grappling with computer problems," right away – especially if they own a small business – their ears will perk up and they will want to know more.

Developing Your Elevator Speech

Map it out:

o Who am I and what do I have to offer?
o What am I looking for and why?
o What can I contribute?
o What would I like?

Ask yourself the following questions to help round out your preparations and give depth to your message.

o What is my purpose? What am I trying to accomplish?
o What would be a successful exit?
o How do I want people to feel?
o What do I want people to remember?

Keep in mind the basic elements of an effective elevator speech:

o Concise: An effective elevator speech is succinct, containing as few words as possible, but no fewer.
o Clear: Rather than being filled with acronyms, jargon, and ten-dollar words, an effective elevator speech can be understood by your grandparents, parents, and the kid next door. Make sure the audience understands what you are talking about and what's in it for them.
o Informative: As much as possible, an effective elevator speech is specific and tangible. Talk about demonstrable accomplishments and goals.
o Engaging: Your elevator speech is a conversation starter, not a monologue. You want to spark the interest of your audience, not bore them.
o Finish with a Request: At the end of your pitch, you must ask for something. Do you want their business card, to schedule a full presentation, to ask for a referral?

Put your plan into action:

o Write out a script.
o Practice in front of the mirror, and with friends, family, or CES. Record it, and listen to it. Do you sound confident? Sincere? Is it engaging?
o Ask for feedback.

Once you get a chance to try out the speech, think about how it worked for you:

o How did you feel?
o How did your audience react?
o Was there something you wish you had said?
o Was there something you wish you had not said?
o Update your speech and get ready for the next time!

Exercise:

Sample Elevator Speech

"I am Kip Piper of MTC Interactive. I work with independent professionals and small business owners to get more customers, get them to spend more and get them to spend more frequently by implementing a systematic marketing strategy that utilizes both printed materials and the Internet. " (End with a request, such as for a business card, appointment, or referral, depending on your audience. For example, "May I have your business card to send you some information?")

Elevator Speech Template

I am _________________ of__________________________. I work with _________________________ to __________________________________ by_________________________.

Try it out as often as you can. If the other person immediately responds, you have a winner. If their eyes seem to glaze over, they give you a confused look or if they bob their head with a fake smile on their face, you may consider tweaking it a bit.

How to Play Bible Baseball

Have you been to a baseball game lately? No? Then start a game of your own – Bible Baseball style!

Set Up: You will need 4 bases – one home plate, one 1st base, one 2nd base, and one 3rd base. You will also need one card of each of the following titles – Home run, Single, Double, and Triple. Place the bases on the ground in baseball diamond fashion and place the cards in a bucket.

How to Play: Pick one child from each team. Decide who goes first. Give the child a Bible review question. If he/she gets it correct, they now get the chance to pick a card out of the bucket. If they pick the single card they move to first base, the double card moves them to second base, the triple card moves them to third base and the Home Run card gives them an automatic home run. Place the chosen card back into the bucket. At this point of the game, both teams have had their first players “up to bat”.

The second child from the 1st team goes next and follows the same procedure. Whatever card he/she picks will also move ahead any of his team members that are already on another base. For example, if a Team A child is on 2nd base and another Team A child comes “up to bat” and picks a double card, the first Team A child now goes to Home plate and scores a run for their team while his teammate goes to second base.

The team with the most home runs at the end of your Bible review time wins.

The Benefits Of Using Wood Burning Camping Stoves

For some people, being out in the wilderness and away from modern society is the best kind of retreat. Many nature enthusiasts prefer to be as independent from modern technology and fuel sources while out enjoying natural settings. Wood burning camping stoves offer freedom from fossil fuel consumption while still being able to enjoy a cooked meal around their camp. This not only helps the environment, but eases the load for the backpacker as well.

A huge benefit of using wood burning camping stoves is the reduction of fossil fuel consumption. Many people do not realize the environmental impact caused by purchasing and burning fossil fuels, even for seemingly small camp and cook fires. How the fuel gets on the shelf for purchase starts with exploration and extraction which in itself is detrimental natural resources. From there, refineries and distribution plays its own role in the destruction of the environment. Just by using another fuel choice (in this case wood) you are helping to preserve what wild land we still have left. That alone is an excellent advantage of wood burning stoves over those use fossil fuel.

Another benefit to wood burning camping stoves is the satisfaction you get to feel from collecting your own fire fuel. If camping with young children, this can be an especially fun thing for them to participate in. Making a game out of it can also create wonderful memories for your family, especially if interesting finds are discovered while out looking for fire wood. Even if you are camping alone, this could very well be the element that gets you even more in touch with nature as you hike and search for fuel for your camp fire.

Using wood burning camping stoves are extremely lightweight as opposed to stoves that utilize fossil fuel that comes in heavy tanks. There are many models on the market today that break down into several pieces making it easier to transport while you are on the move. Some models even come with specialized pot holders and hand protectors that double as a carrying sack.

Yet another advantage to using wood burning stoves is the ability for them to double as your camp fire. Camp fires are an important element to have when out in nature for several reasons. Fire can keep away potentially hazardous bugs from enveloping your camp site, can dry clothes you may have gotten wet while out on your adventures and it keeps you warm when the sun goes down.

Crockpot Collard Greens

I am a southern girl who loves her collard greens. I still remember when I made my first pot of greens not really knowing what I was doing. I recall watching my grandmother on how she made hers and that's how I made my first pot of greens without a recipe. My grandmother would never let me help in the kitchen but she would allow me to watch.

The first batch I made was Thanksgiving in my first real apartment. The one I lived in before was not really an apartment, it was a room with a kitchen and I had a small bathroom. I decided I would invite some friends over for Thanksgiving. A friend of mine came with one of her sons and he absolutely loved my greens. To me they did not taste all that great but he thought they did.

I have come a long way since then with a lot of practice. I would like to share my Crockpot collard green recipe. It is really very simple to make. I have toned down the use of pork in all my cooking. I used to make it with ham hock or jowl bacon but pork is deadly for me. You can use it though, I'll pass. This recipe calls for a 6 quart Crockpot especially if you use 3 or more bunches of greens.

Ingredients

2 to 3 bunches of collard greens

1 large onion

2 tbsp garlic

3 to 4 celery stalks

C cup apple cider vinegar

1 tsp red pepper flakes (omit if you do not want the heat)

2 smoked turkey legs (I suggest 3 if you're using more than 2 bunches)

6 oz chicken stock / broth (use plain water if you have none)

Salt and pepper to taste

I remove the stems from my greens. I do not like stems at all on any greens I prepare. Wash the greens well removing all the dirt and whatever else you may find in them. Take the leaves and chop them down into smaller pieces and place inside the Crockpot. Chop the interviews and celery and add the rest of the dry ingredients to the Crockpot. I like a lot of onion and celery in mine so please be generous to the greens, it gives them flavor. Place the turkey legs on top to press the greens down then add the stock and cider. Cover and cook on low for 5-6 hours or until the meat is falling from the bone. Serve with cornbread.

Process of Titanium Surface

In dental industry, titanium is used as a superior material because its good capacities. But there is something important to be process during the manufacturing.

In high temperature titanium is apt to react with elements of O, H and N in the atmosphere and with elements of Si, Al in the raw material. This reaction will bring a dirty surface on the casting which increases its hardness and brittleness, decreases its flexibility and plasticity.

Because of its low density, fluid titanium has weak inertia as it flows. And this brings low flowing in the casting. The difference of temperature between casting and mold is a bit great, the temperature drops fast, so casting must be done under protective situation. These factors would result in gas cavities and other flaws on the surface and inside of the titanium castings.

The flaws are affect the quality of castings very much.So it is much more important to process titanium casting surface than other dental alloy. Because of the special capacities of titanium, such as low conducting of heat and electricity, hardness of surface, oxidizing etc, it is difficult to process titanium surface. General methods of surface processing can not bring good effect, so special methods must be applied.

The purpose of titanium surface processing is not just making it smooth. The process can reduce conglutination of food and fungus, maintain the balance of nature in the mouth. The most important this improves the capacities in corrosion, friction and applicability.

Cricket Galore in 2013

The year's just about started and already it is resonating with the thrill of the upcoming cricket events. The cricket frenzy in India has now reached a fever pitch. India gears up for not one but three cricket tournaments, set to take place one after another, and this is without taking into account the Ashes series, and the country tours.

So we have the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup which will be the tenth Women's World Cup and the third to be hosted by our country. The Women's cricket World Cup is set to start on January 31st and end by February 17th. The second in the lineup is the Indian Premier League 2013, scheduled from the 3rd of April through 22nd May. The starting match is slated to be a nail biter as it will be played last year's IPL trophy winners- the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Delhi Daredevils. Last but not least is the ICC Champions Trophy organized by the International Cricket Council.

The ICC Champions Trophy schedule will see India battling it out with South Africa on 6th of June at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff followed by Pakistan clashing against West Indies, on 7th of June. Eight teams are set to participate in the championship and they will be pooled into two groups of four. Each team will face every other team in their group once with the two top teams proceeding to the finals. The winners of either group will face the runners-up of the other group and the corresponding winners will progress to the finals which will take place at Edgbaston on Sunday 23 June.

The money is on India, even if most of her stalwarts are either retired or injured. On the brighter side, apart from the regulars like Dhoni, Sehwag, Kohli and Sharma, we have some promising talents such as Pujara, Ashwin et al. The ICC Champions Trophy news and events will be covered and followed up by Star Cricket and ESPN.
