What is really the attic in your building?

Attic is defined as the space enclosed by the building wall and is located directly under the roof.   • Expanded Polystyrene or Phenolic foam insulation- rigid boards

Tips for DIY enthusiasts

  • The use of cellulose insulation is currently gaining grounds over fiberglass and mineral wool insulation. The reasons being none other than economy! The thermal resistance value "R" per unit material cost for cellulose fill is the lowest for any attic insulation.

Further the modernized material does not require a vapor barrier (subject to local building codes permitting it)

  • The cellulose loose fill can be filled in between timber joists. This may raise dust posing a health hazard. Adequate precautions are advised. These fibers may settle about 20% over the time. An overfill of at least this amount is there recommended. On the other hand stabilized cellulose material does not show this weakness and is therefore better suited for the job in spite of the higher price.
  • On the other hand the EPS, PF and cellular foam slabs can be easily cut to exact size between joist spacing and also can be fitted over them completely eliminating any thermal bridges unlike fiberglass, cellulose material etc.
  • Handling of Fiberglass or mineral wool insulation should be done with care. Protective clothing and masks need to be worn.
  • Check all hot water plumbing insulation and renew if necessary. Continuous insulation through out is essential. Check near the storage tanks for weak insulation and rectify as needed.
  • Hot / cold air ducts are easily neglected items in an unconditioned attic. Poor seals between flanged joints, weak insulation in these places and elsewhere, non continuity in insulation etc. may cause high thermal energy losses.
  • Another cause of heat loss from conditioned areas to the attic is the recessed light fittings. Caution should be exercised when insulating the fitting as this will also entrap the heat emitted by the lamp leading to disastrous fires. Seeking manufacturer's instruction is therefore essential in this matter.
  • Vent grilles to and unheated attic is essential for proper ventilation of the occupied areas. Special care need to be taken to prevent obstruction of these grilles (generally located at the periphery of the attic floor).

When I first started working in construction, I was constantly stepping over large pieces of lumber that were spread all over the jobsite. When I used to work on jobs that were not clean, I would come home tired and thought it was because I worked hard all day, until I actually worked on a job that was clean. Just the fact that you have to step over construction debris all day long can wear anyone out and it definitely took its toll on me.

Almost everyone has seen pictures of students and people in the military on an obstacle course, running through a bunch of tires. If they do not place their feet directly in the center of these tires, they can easily trip and fall. This is what it feels like to me, when I'm stepping over cumbersome pieces of lumber on the jobsite obstacle course.

It was not until I met one contractor that changed my way of thinking for ever. This man would often spend an hour or two each day cleaning the job himself. I always thought that he was trying to avoid working and this was one way that he could look busy. I still think this was his main objective, but the lesson I learned is stuck in my head for ever.

Yoshi says that is too much right now. You explain that you can offer him a "No Credit Check Financing Option". He says "Great". You and Yoshi agree on what payment schedule will fit in his budget. He forests that $ 200, every two weeks, would fit his budget.

Yoshi will then write you out five checks post dated checks for the amount of $ 200 each. Five $ 200 checks equal the $ 1000 sale price. I know there is someone saying is that legal. Yes. The law with post dating checks is very vague.

The two major things that come in to play are:

1. If the customer writes a post dated check that they know will not be good on the post dated date. This is a form of fraud. Customer is in the wrong.
2. You cash the check before the post dated date. When you and the customer agree on the payment schedule you are agreeing to cash the check on the dates stated on the contract. You are in the wrong. They can sue you for the penalies incurred and numerous other things depending on your state.

It is a good idea to keep the post dated checks within 90 days of the sale date. This is safer for you and the customer.

The check will need to be kept safe (in a safe). This will make sure that they do not fall in to the wrong hands.

Next you will need to get the filing system in order. You will need a way to let you know when the checks need to be cashed. You can do this one of two ways.

The first would be a basic folder arrangement. Create one folder for every week. Check the folders at the beginning of the week son you know what checks need to be cashed.

The second and probably preferred would be a basic program with Excel or some other spreadsheet program. This would require that you put the information in to your system, but would save the file set-up time. You will set up the spreadsheet to organize the payments by date. Check the spreadsheet every day to see what checks need to be cashed.

Here are a couple things to protect you from fraud and default on repayment.

The options below are up to your discretion. You can use one of them or all of them. The more you implement the more protection you will have that the customer will not default on the loan.

This first three are, in my opinion, a must.

1 Get a copy of the customers ID

2 Get a copy of their most recent pay check stub. You can take this one step further and verify employment. You can give the employee a call or you can send a fax to the Human Resources Department. The easiest way is to call. They can not give you much information over the phone but, they can tell you if the customer works there and if there is anything that might affect his future employment.

3 Call the bank to verify the account is in good standing.

4 Verify the Checks. If you have a merchant account that can process checks this can be simple. If you do not have verification verification you can call your provider and check pricing to get it set up. If you do not have verification verification and you do not want to pay for the service there are some other options. They are not as reliable but will work. Physically go to the bank where the check was issued and cash it. If there are not funds they will tell you or they will cash it and charge the customer an overdraft fee. DO NOT DO THIS WITH THE POST DATED CHECKS. This should only be done with checks that are not post dated. You can also do a search on Google or ASK.com for "How to verify a customer check writing history". These systems can vary in cost and quality. We use NCN. This option will let you know if they have bounced checks that are outstanding, a history of writing bad check, or any check fraud in the past.

Different Types Of Kitchen Cupboard Doors

The first thing you need to know before you purchase kitchen cupboard doors is what material it's made of, what edging will be used on the edges of the door and what finish it will be sprayed, wrapped or manufactured in.

There are five main finishes that cabinet doors are manufactured in. They are PVC vinyl Wrap, veneer, melamine chipboard, Duco spray and solid wood. Solid wood is the most expensive of the five hanging on the type of solid wood you would choose. Pine is obviously much cheaper that any of the other wood types. PVC vinyl wrap is a very common use of bathroom cabinets as well as bedroom and kitchen cabinets. The benefits of PVC vinyl wrap is that the edge of the doors do not pull loose very easily due to the glue that sticks the vinyl to the doors. The core of the door also has to be Supawood so that the edges of the door can be cut out while leaving a smooth finish. Cutting and painting the edges on a chipboard door will not work as the chipboard is far to brittle and will chip away very easily leaving the edged looking very rough.

Veneer doors are more common on kitchen cupboards and can be edged with fleece edging, 1mm-12mm solid impact edging. Impact edging is also used on melamine chipboard doors and is very durable. I normally recommend using impact edging on kitchen cupboards if the client has a flat he or she wanted to renovate and place tenant in. Tenants do not always look after your flat so it would be wise to opt for a more rugged and durable edging on the doors. Lastly we have Duco sprayed doors. This kind of finish is very expensive and not always as unforgiving as PVC vinyl wrap. Although both Duco and vinyl wrap can be finished in a high gloss PVC vinyl does not scratch as easily and scratches can even be polished out to a certain degree if the scratch is not too deep. PVC wrap doors are also almost 50% cheaper than Duco doors. The benefit of Duco sprayed doors is the incredible high gloss finish you get on it. It's almost as if you're looking in a mirror when you look at the door.

In closing. Some doors are cheap and some are expensive but remember if you're going to spend the next 15-20 years in your new kitchen get what you like and not only what fits into the budget. If you have to put Formica work tops in for now but can then afford the doors of your dream do it. You can always remove the Formica tops and replace them with Granite or Solid wood at a later stage.

How to Build Your Very Own Stretch Limousine

How many times have you watched a limousine being driven down the road and thought to yourself, "man that sure would be nice to own one". The cost of purchasing one because is the prohibitive factor for most people. There is an affordable option though and that is to turn the car you now own into a stretch limousine by following these simple easy to follow instructions.

Start Taking Your Car Apart

Your going to start by removing all of the interior paneling and seats, down to the point where the car is pretty much bare inside. Next, you will need to climb under your car and remove the drive line and any brake fluid lines that are running up the under carriage.

Cut Your Car in half

Also, you will want to remove any wiring that is running the length of your car both inside and out. Next, remove all of the side windows as well as the doors. Your next step will be to get a saws-all and a pack of new metal cutting blades and saw the car in half.

Head to the Wrecking Yard

Make sure that your cut line avoids any doors for simplicity. Have a friend help you to pull the two halves of your car apart and set them up on blocks. Now head to the wrecking yard and find a car just like yours that you can cut a midsection chunk from.

A Total of Six Doors!

Bring the chunk back and weld it in place. Now you have two extra doors in back, for a total of six doors in your car! Grind and sand down your welding seams, finish them off with bondo and then hit them with a good coat of primer paint.

Easy As Pie !!

Take your drive line to a machine shop, have it extended and start to put your limo back together. Some of your interior panels will fit and some will not, so you are going g to have to do some creative upholstery work. Your also going to need some extra long brake lines and an extended wiring harness. Hit the car with a paint job and you are good to go!
