Precautions in Using Carpet Cleaning Chemicals

It is undeniable that carpets give that touch to a home. Carpets come in a wide variety of designs and colors to match a certain motif of a home. Aside from making a house look handsome, carpets protect the floor from unwanted stains and damages such as scratches and give extra comfort to the feet.

Always keep carpets as clean as possible; carpets accumulate dirt through time. Dirt and foreign objects from outside are transported inside through shoes, slippers and feet. Carpets get stolen and soiled also because of different things and conditions in the house.

A dirty carpet can make your house look ugly and unkempt. It is said that a house reflects the persons living in it. Chemicals that clean carpets gives a step further in maintaining a clean and a decent place to live in. Chemicals that clean carpets make the carpets look great and new for as long as they can. Carpet cleaning services are available yet they can be quite expensive and it is better to have chemicals that clean carpets handy for emergencies.

Carpet cleaning chemicals can help remove stains and sometimes remove the stains completely. But there is no guarantee. Old and heavy stains may not be removed by chemicals that clean carpets, so as soon as the stain happens, try as soon as possible to clean them up.

These chemicals are widely available; found in almost every department store, home depots and online.

Carpet cleaning chemicals make cleaning easier. They are manufactured with a consideration about the health of families especially the kids and babies which spend most of their time on the floor.

Take extra precautions when using chemicals that clean carpets. Some chemicals that are used are reliably safe to use. Some chemicals that clean carpets may contain harmful chemicals and should be kept from the reach of children and pets. Some of these harmful ingredients are hydrofluoric acid, nitrilotriacetic acid, perchlorethylene and tributyl tin. It is best to read the label carefully before using carpet cleaning chemicals. Some of these ingredients in carpet cleaning chemicals are corrosive. Mixing different brands of chemicals that clean carpets are not advisable, causing harmful and unknown chemical reactions.

It is always best to use gloves and sometimes a face mask and safety goggles when handling chemicals that clean carpets. Safety should never be taken for granted. If not willing to take the risk with these chemicals that clean carpets, things always found in a home, like baking soda, ammonia, dishwashing liquid, vinegar or a combination of any of these can be an alternative.

10 Ways to Make Your House Look Bigger and Spacious

Getting a small area around the house or the entire house to look bigger is possible by following some simple steps.

1. Repaint the ceiling or use a wallpaper to give the room a taller appearance

It does not matter whether it is your living room, or your bedroom, repainting the ceiling or making use of wallpaper can make a room appear larger. The trick is that a brightly painted ceiling offers to make you raise your brows upwards which make the room appear large and spacious.

2. Use light color paint on the walls

When the walls in a room are painted with dark colors, it makes the room seem a bit cozier due to that they absorb light. Whereas the walls are painted with bright colors, it helps to make a room more spacious since light easily gets reflected around the room.

3. Ensure furniture's are not placed closed to the wall

Creating space between the wall and furniture creates the illusion of a large room; this makes the room look more open unlike when you place them close to the wall which makes the area look cramped.

4. Use light colors on the floor also

Just like in the case of a bright painted wall, a brightly colored floor also gives a room a spacious outlook. You can opt for a floor remodeling if you are up for it or simply just get a bright colored rug or carpet.

5. Place shelves close to the ceiling to get people to look up.

You can make a small space look bigger by putting structures in place to draw the eye towards the ceiling. And one effective way you can achieve this is to hang a shelf close to the ceiling. It can be a book shelf or one with an array of decorations that are pleasing to the eyes.

6. Make use of large decorative accents

Accenting a room with large decorations such as tall vases or handcrafted items can get it to look large. This is due to a few large decorations in a room give it a detailed outlook unlike when you cramp it up with smaller decorations scattered here and there.

7. Go for furniture's that makes a statement

So you want the living room to be a lot spacious to make room for air and light, a simple way to achieve this is to make use of a large couch instead of several small pieces which makes it look a lot cluttered.

8. Place a striped rug on the floor

This works perfectly in a small bedroom. Placing a striped rug like that of a zebra makes your room appear bigger.

9. Use color coding on shelves

Arranging items on shelves according to colors makes space looked structured and organized which extremely gives the room a spacious appeal.

10. Improve a tiny bathroom with a clear shower curtain

You can give a small bathroom a spacious look by getting a bright colored shower curtain.

How to Buy Bitcoin – Step One

The best way to learn about bitcoin, is to jump in and get a few in your “pocket” to get a feel for how they work.

Despite the hype about how difficult and dangerous it can be, getting bitcoins is a lot easier and safer than you might think. In a lot of ways, it is probably easier than opening an account at a traditional bank. And, given what has been happening in the banking system, it is probably safer too.

There are a few things to learn: getting and using a software wallet, learning how to send and receive money, learning how to buy bitcoin from a person or an exchange.

Preparation

Before getting started, you will need to get yourself a wallet. You can do this easily enough by registering with one of the exchanges which will host wallet for you. And, although I think you are going to want to have one or more exchange wallets eventually, you should start with one on your own computer both to get a better feel for bitcoin and because the exchanges are still experimental themselves. When we get to that stage of the discussion, I will be advising that you get in the habit of moving your money and coins off the exchanges or diversifying across exchanges to keep your money safe.

What is a wallet?

It is a way to store your bitcoins. Specifically, it is software that has been designed to store bitcoin. It can be run on your desktop computer, laptop, mobile device (except, as yet, Apple) and can also be made to store bitcoins on things like thumb drives. If you are concerned about being hacked, then that is a good option. Even the Winklevoss* twins, who have millions invested in bitcoin, put their investment on hard drives which they then put into a safety deposit box.

*The Winklevoss twins are the ones who originally had the idea for a social networking site that became Facebook. They hired Mark Zuckerberg who took their idea as his own and became immensely rich.

What do you need to know about having a bitcoin wallet on your computer?

Below you can download the original bitcoin wallet, or client, in Windows or Mac format. These are not just wallets, but are in fact part of the bitcoin network. They will receive, store, and send your bitcoins. You can create one or more addresses with a click (an address is a number that looks like this: 1LyFcQatbg4BvT9gGTz6VdqqHKpPn5QBuk). You will see a field where you can copy and paste a number like this from a person you want to send money to and off it will go directly into that person’s wallet. You can even create a QR code which will let someone take a picture with an app on their phone and send you some bitcoin. It is perfectly safe to give these out – the address and QR code are both for my donations page. Feel free to donate!

NOTE: This type of wallet acts both as a wallet for you and as part of the bitcoin system. The reason bitcoin works is that every transaction is broadcast and recorded as a number across the entire system (meaning that every transaction is confirmed and made irreversible by the network itself). Any computer with the right software can be part of that system, checking and supporting the network. This wallet serves as your personal wallet and also as a support for that system. Therefore, be aware that it will take up 8-9 gigabytes of your computer’s memory. After you install the wallet, it will take as much as a day for the wallet to sync with the network. This is normal, does not harm your computer, and makes the system as a whole more secure, so it’s a good idea.

Bitcoin Qt

  • The original wallet.
  • This is a full-featured wallet: create multiple addresses to receive bitcoins, send bitcoins easily, track transactions, and back up your wallet.
  • Outside of the time it takes to sync, this is a very easy to use option.
  • Search for Bitcoin Qt wallet download to find their site.

Armory

  • Runs on top of Bitcoi Qt, so it has all of the same syncing requirements.
  • Armory allows you to back up, encrypt, and the ability to store your bitcoins off line.
  • Search for Bitcoin Armory Wallet to find their site.

If you don’t want to have that much memory used or don’t want to wait for your wallet to sync, there are good wallets that do not make you sync the entire history of bitcocin:

Multibit

  • A lightweight wallet that syncs quickly. This is very good for new users.
  • Search for Bitcoin Multibit Wallet to find their site.

Electum

  • In addition to being quick and light, this wallet allows you to recover lost data using a passcode.
  • Search for Bitcoin Electum Wallet to find their site.

After you get the wallet set up, take a few minutes clicking around. Things to look for:

o There will be a page that shows you how many bitcoins are currently in your wallet. Keep in mind that bitcoins can be broken up into smaller pieces, so you may see a decimal with a lot of zeros after it. (Interesting note, 0.00000001 is one Satoshi, named after the pseudonymous creator of bitcoin).

o There will be an area showing what your recent transactions are.

o There will be an area where you can create an address and a QR code (like the one I have above). You don’t need the QR code if you don’t want it, but if you run a business and you want to accept bitcoin, then all you’ll need to do to accept payment is to show someone the QR code, let them take a picture of it, and they will be able to send you some money. You will also be able to create as many addresses as you like, so if you want to track where the money is coming from, you could have a separately labeled address from each one of your payees.

o There will be an area with a box for you to paste a code when you want to send money to someone or to yourself on an exchange or different wallet.

There will be other options and features, but to start out with, these are the items that you should know about.

Getting Your First Bitcoins

Now that you have a wallet, you will, of course, want to test them out.

The very first place to go is http://faucet.bitcoin.st/.

This is a website that gives out small amounts of bitcoin for the purpose of getting people used to using them. The original version of this was run by the lead developer of bitcoin, Gavin Andreson. That site has since closed and this site operates by sending out one or two advertisements a month. You agree to receive those messages by requesting the bitcoins. Copy and paste your new bitcoin address and enter a phone number to which you can receive an SMS. They send out an SMS to be sure that people are not continuously coming back for more since it costs nothing to create a bitcoin address. They will also send out once or twice a month advertisement to support their operation. The amount they send it trivial: 0.0015 BTC (or 1.5 mBTC). However, they process almost immediately and you can check to see that your address and wallet are working. It is also quite a feeling to get that portion of a bitcoin. (Non-disclaimer: I have no connection with this site and receive nothing if you use them. I simply think they are a good way to get your feet wet).

Congratulations! You have just entered the bitcoin economy.

To get your feet a little wetter, you can go panning for gold. There are a number of services and websites out there that will pay you in bitcoin to do things like go to certain websites, fill out online surveys, or watch sponsored videos. These are harmless, and you can earn a few extra bitcoins this way, but it is important to remember that these are businesses that get paid when people click on the links on their sites. They are essentially kicking back a portion of what they get paid to you. There is nothing illegal, or even immoral about this (you might like what you see and make a purchase!), but they are frequently flashy and may not be completely straightforward. All the ones that I have tried (particularly bitvisitor.com) have paid out as advertised. It is interesting to experiment with these, but even with the likely rise in the value of bitcoin, you won’t become a millionaire doing this. So, unless you are an advertisement junkie, I would recommend you move on. If you would like to try, simply Google “free bitcoins” or something along those lines and you will find numerous sites.

Buying Bitcoin Hand-to-Hand

Finally, this is going to be the real test of bitcoin. Can people easily trade them back and forth? If this can’t happen, then there can’t really be a bitcoin economy because retailers won’t be able to use it. If retailers can’t use it, what earthly good is it? Fortunately, this is not really a problem. iPhone is a bit of a hold out, but many smartphones have apps (mobile wallets) that will read QR codes and allow you to send bitcoin to whomever you want. You can also display a QR code of your address, or even carry a card in your wallet with your QR code to let people send bitcoin to you. Depending on what kind of wallet you have, you can then check to see if the bitcoins have been received.

A couple of things to note:

  • When you set up your wallet, if you click around a bit, you will see an option to pay a fee to speed transactions. This money becomes available to a bitcoin miner as he/she/they process bitcoin information. The miners doing the work of creating blocks of information keeps the system up to date and secure. The fee is an incentive to the miner to be sure to include your information in the next information block and therefore “verify” it. In the short term, miners are making most of their money by mining new coins (check the section on What Are Bitcoins for more information about this). In the long term, as it gets harder to find new coins, and as the economy increases, the fees will be an incentive for miners to keep creating more blocks and keep the economy going. Your wallet should be set to pay 0 fees as a default, but if you want, you can add a fee to prioritize your transactions. You are under no obligation to pay a fee, and many organizations that process many small transactions (like the ones that pan for gold described above) produce enough fees to keep the miners happy.
  • In clicking around your wallet, on the transactions page or linked to specific transactions, you will see a note about confirmations. When you make a transaction, that information is sent out into the network and the network will send back a confirmation that there is no double entry for that bitcoin. It is smart to wait until you get several confirmations before walking away from someone who has paid you. It is actually not very easy to scam someone hand-to-hand like this, and it is not very cost-effective for the criminal, but it can be done.

Where can you buy bitcoin like this?

  • You may have a bitcoin Meetup in your area.
  • You can check out localbitcoins.com to find people near you who are interested in buying or selling.
  • Some are trying to start up local street exchanges across the world. These are called Buttonwoods after the first street exchange established on Wall Street in 1792 under a buttonwood tree. See if there is one, or start one, in your area.
  • See if you have any friends who would like to try bitcoins out. Actually, the more people who start using bitcoin, the larger and more successful it will be come. So please tell two friends!

Some people ask if it is possible to buy physical bitcoins. The answer to this is both a yes and a no. Bitcoin, by its very nature, is a digital currency and has no physical form. However, there are a couple of ways that you can practically hold a bitcoin in your hands:

  • Cascascius Coins: These are the brainchild of Mike Caldwell. He mints physical coins and then embeds the private keys for the bitcoins inside them. You can get the private key by peeling a hologram from the coin which will then clearly show that the coin has been tampered with. Mike has gone out of his way to ensure that he can be trusted. These are a good investment strategy as in the years to come it may be that these coins are huge collector’s items.
  • Paper Wallets: A paper wallet just means that rather than keeping the information for your bitcoin stored in a digital wallet, you print the key information off along with a private key and keep it safe in a safe, in a drawer, or in your mattress (if you like). This is highly recommended and cost effective system for keeping your bitcoin safe. Keep in mind, though, that someone could steal them or if your house burns, they will go with the house and there will be no way to get them back. Really, no different than cash. Also, as with Casascius Coins, they will not really be good for spending until you put them back into the computer.

* There is software to make printing your paper wallets easier. bitcoinpaperwallet.com is one of the best and includes a good tutorial about how to use them.

* The bitcoins are not actually in the wallet, they are still on the web. In fact, the outside of the wallet will have a QR code that will allow you ship coins to the wallet any time you like.

* The sealed part of the wallet will have the private key without which you cannot access the coins. Therefore, only put as many coins on the wallet as you want to be inaccessible. You will not be able to whip this thing out and take out a few coins to buy a cup of coffee. Rather, think of it as a piggy bank. To get the money, you have to smash it. It is possible to take out smaller amounts, but at this point the security of the wallet is compromised and it would be easier for someone to steal the coins. Better to have them all in or out.

* People who use paper wallets are usually security conscious, and there are a number of ways for the nefarious in the world to hack your computer. Bitcoinpaperwallet.com gives a lot of good advice about how to print your wallets securely.

Some people have also asked about buying bitcoins on eBay. Yes, it is possible, but they will be far overpriced. So, selling on eBay might seem to be a better option given the extreme markup over market value you might see. But, as with anything that is too good to be true, this is too good to be true. As I will explain in the next section, selling bitcoin this way is just way too risky.

How Not to Buy Bitcoin

In the next section, I am going to explain a couple of key points about buying from Bitcoin Exchanges. Before I do, let me give you a warning.

A short history lesson: When people first started setting up actual business based on bitcoin, they used all of the tools available to any merchant. They sold by credit card and PayPal. The problem with this business model was quickly spotted: bitcoin transactions are not reversible by anyone except the recipient of the money. Credit cards and PayPal have strong buyer protection policies that make it relatively easy for people to request a chargeback. So, nefarious individuals realized this and began making purchases of bitcoin and then sooner or later requesting a chargeback. And, since bitcoin is a non-physical product, sent by new and poorly understood technological means, the sellers were not able to contest this. Because of this, sellers stopped accepting credit cards and PayPal.

This was a big problem for the currency: How to move money between buyers and seller? Some business emerged that would credit you with bitcoin if you wired them money. Very often these businesses would give addresses in Albania, Poland, or Russia. The fact is that many of these did work and there are a lot of stories on the forums of people who bought bitcoins this way. But it took a lot of time and in the meantime the buyer just had to bite his or her fingernails wondering if they would get their bitcoins or kiss their investment goodbye.

I expect that as bitcoin becomes more acceptable and valuable, we are going to see a version of the Nigerian Prince scam. So the warning is this: we now have exchanges and other businesses that allow for moving money easily onto and off of exchanges. Never wire money for bitcoin. It was a short-lived, and well-forgotten, moment in the history of bitcoin.

Next, I will be talking about how to buy from a bitcoin exchange and give a review of the some of the best known exchanges.

A Look Back at the Most Impressive Race Car Engines

Did you know that race cars must have extremely powerful engines in order to be winners? Besides the aerodynamics that have been implemented and the modifications, the engine is what makes the car the ultimate winner.

Let's start off with the famous Formula One Ferrari. One of the most famous engines in the F1 was the Ferrari V10 F1. It was a 3.0 liter, ten cylinder racing car that was responsible for 57 wins.

The Porsche Flat 6 is another racing vehicle that left an impression on the world. It was a 2.0 liter air cooled engine. The most recent version of this Porsche has received impressive results by winning many races over the years.

The Porsche Flat 12 has one of the largest engines in the racing industry. There are two flat six engines packed into this car. It is a 4.5 liter engine which has 1500 horse power. You can imagine how cramped the driver must have been to make space for this massive machine.

The Mazda R26B 4-rotor might have been one of the craziest models in the racing industry. Having entered 21 races and only winning one might be a strange statistic. This one race was the LeMans and it made an impression as it was the only car that was not a conventional piston engine and it was a unique marque.

The BMW S14 was the start of the M-series. Winning the championship but winning no races, it was simply a 2.5 liter engine with only four cylinders.

The Audi R10-18 TDI has been through many changes over time but always had a memorable engine. Originally, this model was a petrol engine that had ten cylinders. This was entered into the LeMans race and won. However, the manufacturers decided to place a diesel engine with twelve cylinders and two turbos. Now, that is an amazing amount of power in just a single race car. Not even Formula One cars have a V12 Engine.

Ever race car has to be equipped with the finest mechanical and electrical parts. Races are there to prove the quality of the car before hitting the city streets. Racing cars also test how well an engine can cope under extreme conditions such as heat, rain and snow.

Racing tracks are also the best places for tire manufacturers to test their new products. Rubber needs to withstand heat and friction over long periods of time and track day is the time to test it.

Can Plagiocephaly Be Treated in Adults?

These days it’s common to see babies with flat heads, and you might have even seen one or two sporting funny looking helmets to correct the deformity. But what if you have reached adulthood with a flat spot on your head, having been born at a time when knowledge of this condition was limited? Can plagiocephaly be treated in adults and older children?

The rise of plagiocephaly

Plagiocephaly has gained much media attention in recent years. While the Back to Sleep campaign of the 1990s may have successfully reduced the incidence of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), long periods spent lying in the supine position also left many children with misshapen heads.

Fast forward 20 or so years, and awareness about plagiocephaly is beginning to pick up, with doctors and health visitors providing advice for parents and private clinics offering helmet therapy to correct severe cases of plagiocephaly in infants.

But how about those teenagers and adults who were born before the information and treatment options we now have came to light? Is there a limit to the age at which plagiocephaly can be treated?

Plagiocephaly treatment for adults

Unfortunately, the only known treatment for plagiocephaly in adults involves surgery, and few surgeons are willing to undertake the procedure. Given that the condition is thought to be largely cosmetic, the risks and costs associated with surgery outweigh the benefits.

Today, parents are usually advised to ‘reposition’ their babies from an early age. This involves varying the position in which the child plays, sits and sleeps to relieve pressure on the back of the skull. Repositioning is often successful in treating mild cases of plagiocephaly, but where it fails, a helmet can be used to correct the deformity.

As babies become toddlers and they begin to move about more independently, there’s a limit to what can be achieved though repositioning. And while a helmet can be used to treat moderate and severe plagiocephaly in babies, by the age of around 14 months, the bones in the skull begin to harden and this method becomes ineffective, too.

Outlook for adults with plagiocephaly

If you’re an adult who has recently become aware of plagiocephaly, this is probably not the answer you wanted to hear. However, you can take some comfort in the fact that the condition is relatively benign and is not known to be associated with any health risks later in life.

While awareness of plagiocephaly is on the rise, the advice provided to parents by healthcare professionals remains inconsistent and there are still babies being left with easily preventable head shape deformities to this day.

So while it’s regrettable that you are unable to correct your own flat spot, you can still make a big difference by making other parents aware of the urgency with which they must act if they are to treat their children.

If the child of a friend or family member has a misshapen head, gently suggesting that they get it checked out can save a lot of heartache further down the line. It may be useful to show them this short presentation on plagiocephaly, which explains how to spot the signs and briefly covers the treatment options that are available.

So spread the word, and try not to worry too much about the shape of your own head. Remember, you’re your own worst critic and other people are far too busy going about their daily lives to notice minor irregularities in the appearances of others.

Online Customer Service Software

With the growth of online business, more and more people prefer to sell their products/services on the internet rather than opening physical shops. There is a huge risk of failure if you are not able to meet customer demands or give them proper service. Studies have revealed that e-commerce is an easy as well difficult way of making money. While getting new customers is always a difficult task, serving them right and interacting with them is the key to success. This is why online customer service software has become a must have for upcoming business.

With such software, you will be able to interact directly with your customers and understand their frequency. Unless you really understand what they are looking for, it is almost impossible to satisfy them. A fully furnished and glossy site without customer service might be less successful with a not so glossy but adequate service oriented website. So, you should focus more on reaching your customers rather than spending more on marketing. Remember, one satisfied customer can bring you many more potential customers while one dissatisfied customer can cause you 100 times more damage.

If the chat agents supporting the online customer service are trained, they can really bring a lot of difference to your business. With the ability to generate metrics, you being the site owner can easily determine which product is most attractive to your customers. Following that, you can strategize your business and increase your sales. Remember, interaction with the customers is the key to success. So, you should be providing enough education to the chat agent son how to talk to the site visitors and how to show them around the site. There might be instances where the customers might be interested in customizing few orders that is difficult through email conversation. However, this can be done easily by live chat help with direct instructions from the customer.

Most of the services offering online customer chat service offer free trials, so you can experiment them and see the difference it brings to your sale. With the reduced cost, you can not only effectively make money; you can also monitor your website and keep a track of each and every visitor entering your website. So, take this opportunity and grab the unexplored part of internet marketing and website promotion. You never know, this small step may bring a huge difference in your business perspective and can open new gates of success for you.

Is Your Television Spying On You?

Is seems like the more connected we get the more privacy we lose. In a report and investigation from “Consumers Report” they found that some smart TV’s can track what you watch. The newer Smart TV from LG, Samsung, Sony, Vizio and others might be doing just that. It seems like they were trying to compete with Nielson in an attempt to do a better job at ratings. Most of us watch Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, RoKu and others. All of these need a Wi-Fi connection to operate.

So just how do they do it? They all have what is called Automatic Content Recognition (AGR) which monitors what you watch. And of course, you must be connected to the internet via hard wire or Wi-Fi. The AGR is turned on by default.

The next thing you should ask, can my TV be hacked? Can someone hack into my smart TV and take control of it or do something else? The answer to both is yes. How difficult this is depends on the TV manufacturer or the maker of the Ruku, Hulu or other hardware devices connected to your TV. They should have some type of security protection.

Can any of this be stopped? There are two basic ways, first is to unplug or disconnect the internet from your smart TV, this isn’t always practical. The second will take a little work and digging into the menu options of your TV. Most of the TV manufacturers will have a way to shut off the Automatic Content Recognition, this will vary depending on the TV. You should be able to find this in your TV user’s manual or on the manufacturers web site. The setting will usually be found in the System or Support setting in your setup menu.

It seems that we are getting more “connected” every day with this connection comes many opportunities for you to lose more of your privacy. One of the best ways to stop or limit spying is to make sure that your Wi-Fi router is updated and that you have it set to the highest security with a very strong password. As you add additional connected items to your home make sure that you understand what information they collect from you and how they will use it.

All security for your home, car, internet, etc. starts with you. Do your research and make the necessary changes to protect your privacy.

Treatment of Excessive Sweating Or Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis which is simply excessive sweating most often affects the palms, feet and face, causing embarrassment and interfering with daily chores. Excessive sweating is considered rare but recent estimates show that 2.8 percent of populations have hyperhidrosis doubling in Asian communities and some other countries. Only half of those affected have sought treatment because the rest don’t know that treatment is available.

Excessive sweating occurs in two distinct forms, primary hyperhidrosis and the secondary hyperhidrosis.

In primary focal excessive sweating; emotional stimuli are believed to trigger hyperhidrosis although doctors do not understand why this happens.

Palmar hyperhidrosis affects the hands and plantar hyperhidrosis affects the feet. Sweaty palms are the most embarrassing situation.

Palmar axillary hyperhidrosis affects the palms and armpits.

Isolated axillary hyperhidrosis affects the armpits only.

The least common form excessive sweating is craniofacial hyperhidrosis which affects the face and the head.

Secondary hyperhidrosis is caused by an underlying medical condition such as infections, spinal cord injury, endocrine disorders, malignancy, neurologic or and other conditions. Treatment will obviously focus on treating the underlying condition.

Diagnosis

Many patients visit a dermatologist for hyperhidrosis. The doctor will start the diagnostic process with a physical examination. If you have the condition the doctor l will see sweat droplets on your body, even when you aren’t anxious and have a normal heart rate and blood pressure. Family history must be analyzed because studies have shown that 25 to 50 percent of patients with palmar hyperhidrosis have a family history of hyperhidrosis.

To rule out serious conditions that can cause sweating, such as hyperthyroidism, diabetes, growth hormone disorder, and tumor of the adrenal gland, blood tests are carried out.

Minor-starch iodine test help to determine the severity of hyperhidrosis and response to treatment.

Thermoregulatory sweat test determines the severity and extent of primary hyperhidrosis.

People who have primary hyperhidrosis sweat more in the palms in a warm environment while those who don’t have excessive sweating tend not to sweat in the palms. The findings help the physician to accurately diagnose and define the severity of the hyperhidrosis and plan for optimal treatment. Sometimes a patient will have excessive sweating on other parts of the body caused by secondary hyperhidrosis and require to be diagnosed and treated.

The treatment

Many treatment methods are available for primary hyperhidrosis. The least invasive treatment options that relieve symptoms are preferred. Surgery is reserved for patients with serious condition and haven’t found cure from other treatments.

As pointed earlier treatment for secondary hyperhidrosis aims at diagnosing and treating the underlying health condition causing the sweating.

Medications

For light and moderate hyperhidrosis the physician will recommend applying a nonprescription, over-the-counter, clinical strength antiperspirant on problem areas as an initial treatment. Methods that work well include Certain Dri, Secret Clinical Strength, Degree Clinical Protections and 5 Day.

The next step is to use prescription antiperspirants with aluminum chloride. Normally prescription antiperspirants are applied to dry skin before bedtime. Covering the problem areas during sleep has proved to be helpful. The antiperspirant should be washed off after seven to eight hours . Red, swollen and itchy skin can occur when using prescription antiperspirants.

Iontophoresis treatment

In this procedure a battery-powered device is used to deliver a low current of electricity to the hands or feet and sometimes the armpits through water-saturated wool pads. The old method of using pails of water is outdated Iontophoresis treatment changes the outer layers of skin to prevent sweat from coming to the surface.

Iontophoresis is safe but it is not more effective than antiperspirant treatment.

Oral administered medications

Oral medications which control hyperhidrosis, include anticholinergics which block nerve impulses to sweat glands. Carbonic anhydrase inhibitors inhibit sweating. Clonidine reduces nerve responses thereby reducing sweating.

Botox or Botulinum Toxin injections.

This temporarily blocks the nerves that trigger your sweat glands. Injections of up to 20 small doses of Botox are carried out in a treatment session. The injection sites are determined by diagnostic sweat tests. To reduce the pain caused by the injections, anesthetic techniques that include oral, intravenous sedation medication and topical creams are used.

Surgery

Surgery is an option if you have severe hyperhidrosis and other treatments haven’t worked. Two approaches are often used. One entail interrupting the nerve signal triggering excessive sweating and the other procedure is to remove some sweat glands.

Types of surgery

There are three main surgical approaches as explained below.

Sympathectomy involves clipping or removing part of the sympathetic nerve.

Sympathotomy is a new procedure which interrupts the nerve signals without removing the sympathetic nerve. The benefit is a greatly reduced risk of compensatory sweating.

Minimally invasive sympathectomy

In minimally invasive sympathectomy the surgeon places clips on the sympathetic nerve to block nerve signals. This treatment is effective in reducing hyperhidrosis symptoms on many people. When carried out by experienced surgeons, the procedure stops excessive palmar sweating but less for the underarms and feet. Compensatory sweating rarely occurs as a side effect. The procedure can be reversed by removing the clip.

Orthodox sympathectomy performed by many surgeons involves removing most or all of the upper thoracic sympathetic nerve chain. This method also called a ganglionectomy and is not reversible. A common complication of this surgery is compensatory sweating in which patients experience new excessive sweating elsewhere.

Minimally invasive sympathotomy.

In a sympathotomy, the surgeon disconnects two clusters of nerve cells or ganglions on the sympathetic nerve by the second rib thus blocking the nerve pathway that causes excessive sweating.

Local excision

This surgery is for auxiliary hyperhidrosis and surgeons remove targeted sweat glands. The method requires small incisions to be made on the affected part and can be performed with local anesthesia. Many people report significant and permanent reduction in sweating.

The surgeon makes two or three small cuts below the armpit. A miniature fiber optic camera is gently inserted to allow the surgeon to see the targeted nerves that stimulate the sweat glands. Small surgical instruments are then inserted through the other incisions to complete the procedure. This is performed by thoracic surgeons or neurosurgeons.

During the surgery, lungs are collapsed to allow enough room for the surgeon to work. When one side is completed, the surgeon performs an identical procedure on the opposite side. On completion of the surgery, the lung is re-expanded, and the incisions are closed.

Gastroenterology – A Gut Reaction

The digestive system is a complex system that involves the process of taking food into the body, and turning it into a digestible form that can then be assimilated into the body to supply the necessary nutrients for function and good health.

Food is taken into the body through the mouth where it's broken down by a combination of proper chewing and natural body fluids produced in the mouth. The broken down food is then passed through the esophagus into the stomach where it is combined with digestive enzymes that further break down the matter into digestible form. Then nutrients from the food are absorbed into the body through the small intestine. Stretched out, the average small intestine is about 22 feet long, and the large intestine is about 5 feet long. That's a lot of geography. The residual, called fecal matter, is then passed through the small intestine into the large intestine to the rectum where it is eliminated by the body as waste or feces. Constipation can occur if there is not enough liquid absorb to moisten the feces as the passes through the large intestine.

This process involves other vital organs such the pancreas, which is located benefit the stomach where it connects to the small intestine through the duodenum. The pancreas produces insulin and glucomen; digestive enzymes and hormones that help breakdown carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. The liver, a major player in metabolism, aids in the breakdown of small and complex molecules. Most commonly, the liver is known to detoxify the body when alcohol is introduced into the body but, it also produces bile, which emulsifies fats and neutralizes acids in partially digested food. The gall bladder stores bile secretions from the liver.

When the digestive systems is working perfectly and efficiently, it takes the average piece of food about 75 hours to travel from the mouth, and through the system as waste. The body may react to certain foods with excess gas or heartburn, those reactions are usually harmless and will gradually go away as the food continues to make its way way through the body. However, a number of things can go wrong including minor ailments like ulcers, which are caused by gastric acid eating away the mucus lining of the stomach or small intestine. Major ailments include liver failure, or inflammatory bowel disease. Gastroenterologists are the specialists who study, diagnose, and treat ailments of the digestive system.

Gastroenterology is the study of this complex system which fuels our bodies and keeps them functioning properly. It involves the esophagus, stomach, pancreas and both intestinal structures. Take care of it by eating a proper diet that includes plenty of water, and see a doctor immediately if problems occur that make digestion uncomfortable, or longer than usual.

Kidney Dialysis and How it Works

When you have loss kidney function something need to be done to replace the cleansing of the blood from pollutants and to help remove fluid and that replacement is called "dialysis.

At first glance, this life saving dialysis machine looks like something from Star Wars, all the tubes and meters and it kind of looks like R2D2 except it's not walking around just sitting there beside you. The good news is your "little buddy" is your life saver because it is going to cleanse your body for you and get rid of what your body can not do on it own anymore.

Many people have a shunt in their arm where they hook up the dialysis machine and on one side of the machine the dialysate (the fluid they use) is going to flow and on the other side your blood is going to flow and when the blood is cleaned it returns to you. The dialysate also has minerals in it that are loss during dialysis, like calcium and potassium. More than likely they will also put your on a prescription for these same minerals. This type dialysis is called. "hemodialysis" and is usually done 3 times a week for 3 or 4 hours.

Another form of dialysis is called, "Peritoneal dialysis". In this type dialysis the dialysate is of glucose and minerals and is run through your stomach area. The dialysate is then left to clean your body of waste and pollutants and then drained and thrown away. The nice part of this treatment is that it is done at home and can even be done when your traveling. This treatment does not do quite as good as hemodialysis but because it is done more often during the day the methods of cleansing your body becomes about the same.

I can not stress this enough, on your days of dialysis, you are going to be tired and it's ok! Your body has just walked through in 3-4 hours what it normally takes to do in 48 hours. It's like running a mile in 4 minutes and you're going to be tired. The good news is the days you do not have dialysis, usually, you will gain some energy back and feel less exhausted. Do not try to do too much on your days that you have dialysis, it will only make you more tired than you already are and there is always tomorrow when you feel better to do what you need to do.

Making Perfumes With Aroma Chemicals

Aroma chemicals are synthetically created aromatic molecules that give fragrance to perfumes and photographed products. Some smell beautiful in their raw form and others can be downright unpleasing in their pure, undiluted form.

Most perfumes available on the market these days are made up of 100% aroma chemicals; especially the aquatic, fruity and clean type of designer perfumes that are the current trend today. These aromatic chemicals are incredibly stable in their performance and easy use by experienced perfume makers. In fact, they are the preferred choice of odorants for the perfumers in the perfume industry to work with.

The ongoing progress in the growth of current day technology continues to improve the process of making perfumes. This is positive improvement compared to the early days of perfume making when perfumes were totally made up with natural ingredients; both from plants and animal sources. Nowadays, most of the animal derived raw materials previously used in perfumery are longer used due to ethnic reasons.

Present day molecular scientists and alchemists are always working on making great replicates of the popular animal notes of yesteryears in their laboratory without endangering animals or the environment. Consequently, perfume makers are able to have continued access to some the fragrance notes that are essential to their perfume compositions. This is a big relief for perfume designers since some of these natural perfume ingredients formerly used in perfumes are now banned or severely restricted and impossible to source legally. A good example of this is musk. Musk was originally harvested from the glandular secretion in the pods of the Musk deer. This of course would result in the death of the deer.

However, although aroma chemicals are more readily available, using them in perfumes will require a certain level of skill and experimentation to be able to use them effectively. One would need to familiarize oneself with how much to use when creating a perfume so as not to ruin the blend. Some aroma chemicals are so strong that only trace amounts are needed in a perfume blend, while others actually have no scent at all until they are blended with other aromatic notes.

For instance, the aroma chemical recreation of civet oil smells totally faecal in its undiluted form and lightly musky in extreme dilution. Regardless of how it smells in its pure state, it performs a magical role in a composition when a tiny amount of the diluted version is added to it. As a component of a perfume composition, it is unrivaled in how it impacts sensitivity, warmth and balance to the blend.

Here Are Some Popular Aroma Chemicals:

Ambretollide – an intense and powerful musk note.

Ambrofix – described by the manufacturer as an ambery, woody and tobacco like odor.

Cashmeren – a spicy and very different musk note with floral hints.

Civet – warm sensual animal musk in extreme dilution.

Citronellyl – a fresh, fruity and rose note similar to geranium oil.

Dihydromyrcenol – a lavender, citrus and herbal lime note that is strong, fresh and clean.

Galaxolide aclean, slightly floral musk odor.

Geraniol – a geranium and rose type fragrance.

Habanolide valuable white musk note that adds a watery freshness to blends.

Limonene – a sweet citrus, fresh orange note that adds lift to blends.

Vanillin – a very concentrated and intense vanilla aroma.

Compared to natural perfume ingredients , aroma chemicals are more commonly used in creating the superior fragrances oils utilized for making perfume . This is because they can be easily reproduced by the manufactures to the same concise formula and consistent quality over and over again. On the whole they are more stable to use in blends and often significantly cheaper too.

Profit: A Necessary Evil

Preliminaries

Much has been said about profit and its implications in the society. Some people have supported the existence of profit. Others have argued against it. This essay intends to establish the need for existence of profit.

Those who have supported the existence of profit have their own reasons that also support the morality of it. Those who have argued against profit have their own reasons that see the immorality in it. For profit to be seen as good it ought to be carried out within certain levels of morality – In this case it will be accepted. For profit to be seen as bad it will exhibit certain levels of immorality thence rejected.

When profit is obtained within acceptable levels, it may not be condoned, but when obtained at excessive levels without proper justifications, it may carry with it immorality (in which case it is abnormal). That is why we refer to profit as either being normal or abnormal profit.

Justification of Existence of Profit

(a) What is profit?

When goods and services are produced and provided, there is need to understand the costs involved so that a price that includes some return can be established. This selling price includes a mark-up on the cost that eventually gives the profit.

Selling price – costs = profit

Therefore, profit is the money that is obtained above the production costs when goods and services are sold.

For example, when a person sells goods or services to customers, s/he needs to understand what it costs to provide or produce such goods or services and deliver them to customers so that a price can be fixed that brings a profit. For instance,

1. Mr. Kamau sells goods in his shop or kiosk that costs him sh.5, 000. The revenue obtained totals sh.6, 000. Therefore Kamau gets a profit of sh.1, 000.

6,000 – 5,000 = 1,000

S.P – C.P = PROFIT

2. A small scale farmer (Simiyu) uses inputs that go into cultivation of crops on his farm totaling sh.28, 000. After selling what is produced on the farm, he realizes revenue of sh.33, 000. Therefore his profit is sh.5, 000. See Table below

Revenue – cost price = PROFIT

33,000 – 28,000 = 5,000

FARMING COSTS SH.

Clearing of land -500

First ploughing -2,000

2nd ploughing -2,000

Seed (50 kg) -2,500

Fertilizer -6,000

Labor -3,000

Weeding (labor) -4,000

Harvest -3,000

Preparation and storage (before sale) -5,000

TOTAL -28,000

N.B: considering all living factors, this farmer never has any money in his pocket since the sh.5,000 has to be applied on purchased items e.g. salt, tea leaves, sugar, cooking oil, soap, lotion, basins, cups and kettles, plates, spoons, water jars, clothes-ware and bed-ware, paraffin, matches, leave alone educating children. The farmer relies on his farm for food stuffs.

3. A lady who sells ripen bananas at a local market experiences the following costs and revenues:

ITEM SH.

Cost of banana bunch 150

Cost of municipal ticket 20

Revenue from sales 220

(S.P) – C.P. = PROFIT

Sh.220 – Sh.170 = Sh.50

N.B: The examples above reflect the general business activities. The corporate business organizations however would call for extensive elaborations that would still arrive at profit that justify their organizations.

(b) How is profit arrived at and the view of it

The above examples give a picture of how profit is arrived at and depending on its level; it therefore can be seen as bad or good

Understanding man’s needs

This essay is talking about profit. The question is HOW and WHY does profit exist? Profit comes about because people have needs that need to be satisfied. Some other people sell to these people (customers) the goods and services that satisfy these needs at a price. But we have seen that price includes the costs of production and a mark-up.

Therefore the satisfaction of man’s needs that leads to trading or commercial activities eventually give rise to profit that’s being talked about here. The inner question of WHY profit exists is discussed elsewhere in this paper.

Identification of resources to effect production

In order to satisfy man’s needs, production has to be effected. The resources that are needed needs to be identified. They will include: Raw materials, equipment machinery, and labor. Therefore production is the transformation of raw materials using equipment, machinery, and human labor to produce goods and services that will satisfy man’s needs.

N.B: We are touching on needs and resources because there will be costs involved in trading transactions that involve sellers and buyers – that will lead to profit for the sellers. The process to produce will call for some organization to effect production. This organization can either be a single person or a business entity that is selling goods and services to customers.

Need for production organization and provision of services

What is a business organization?

This is the legal coming together of people and other resources to provide goods and services to would-be customers at a profit. The assumption in this definition is that such an organization is acceptable under the law for the society, and is registered. The goods and services ought to provide satisfaction to the buyers (customers). The price at which the goods and services are sold is expected to include a profit.

The coming together of such an organization will not only identify the resources but also the costs or rewards that go to such resources (factors of production)

Factors of production Rewards

Labor – Wages and salaries

Land – Rent

Capital -Interest

Entrepreneurship -Profit

N.B: the rewards here can be interpreted as costs that go to the factors of production and hence they need to be understood as they relate to the profit model

Example of people with needs:

A person who is thirsty buys a soft drink

A person with torn dress takes it to a tailor for repair

A person with long hair may go to the barber for hair cut

A student who wants to write may buy a pen

A family may need a house or place to stay in

A person with uncared-for shoes may need a brush and shoe polish

Needs therefore come either in the form of basic or secondary and have different priority for each individual

Business organizations also exist at different levels e.g. proprietary businesses -individually owned; partnership businesses that may involve two or more persons who have decided to come together to pool their resources, and corporations or companies that involve investors who buy shares in the organization that are registered with the registrar of companies.

Understanding costs and model leading to profit

Business as it exists at any level involves various costs. These include:

(a) Fixed costs – which are incurred whether or not the business is producing goods and services e.g. the cost of equipment and machinery, buildings, land

(b) Variable costs – these are costs which vary according to level of production or activity e.g. raw materials, labor (direct labor)

(c) Overhead costs – these are costs which cannot be directly attributed to specific units. The way they are treated is that they are usually lumped together and applied to the goods sold e.g. water, electricity, administrative costs.

(d) Marginal costs – this is a cost that is applied to every additional unit produced. It is arrived at by dividing change in quantity produced (at any particular level) by change in total costs (at that particular level). N.B:

(e) Total costs = fixed costs + variable cost + overhead

In our profit model, it can therefore be established that:

Revenue – [fixed costs + variable costs + overhead] = profit

It is also very necessary to understand the concept of average costs. These are simply the various types of costs applicable to individual units produced and sold, bearing in mind that we have businesses that are involved in manufacturing and others are involved in buying already manufactured goods which they in turn sell to customers or consumers.

Examples of average costs: average fixed costs, average variable costs, average total costs

Why should a business or business person understand costs?

This is required because the acceptable price that will lead to acceptable profit can only be arrived at after considering these issues. And also it must be understood that businesses contribute to the development of economies. A good example here is a look at the infamous “Triangle Trade”. Cheap or free feedstock such as cotton, cocoa, tea, latex and timber (as well as human resource – slaves), were exported from Africa – at the west coast of the continent, and from Latin America to Europe via London. In exchange, finished products were sold at exorbitant prices to the same source nations. This heralded the eventual mismatch of economies across the Atlantic hence terminologies such as the “first world” and “third world” countries. The manner in which businesses conduct themselves can contribute to the reduction of poverty in the society. They can also promote entrepreneurship in the society, more so in poor countries. As a business goes about its activities has an impact on the improvement or degradation of the environment.

Why should business pursue the profit motive?

As businesses go about pursuing a profit, how should they conduct themselves in relation to the environment and utilization of resources, how they utilize the profit earned considering the fact that the world on which we live on has become a village? This is to say that issues and problems have become globalized.

Although it is known that businesses operate in two environments viz. internal and external environments, their impact is well assessed or evaluated against various aspects that can collectively be described as “the social responsibility of business”. The business hereby assumes the position as caretaker of resources i.e. it carries out its activities for the good of the people.

Business entity as a citizen of the land has various obligations to the people and community which it serves. These responsibilities come under the following concerns which hitherto are the core responsibilities of business:

(a) creation and provision of safe goods and services to the people

(b) creation of employment that provides an income to the workers

(c) attending to employee welfare, ensuring acceptable timely pay (wages and salaries)

(d) settlement of debts with suppliers

(e) meeting with investors’ wishes

(f) complying with the law of the land and government e.g. paying taxes

(g) protecting the environment i.e. carrying out business activities and undertaking corrective measures without harming the environment e.g. in the area of water, air pollution, noise, solid waste pollution, chemical residue pollution as is in the case of agriculture

(h) Philanthropic contributions. This is where the business contributes to worthy causes in the society.

Therefore it can be seen that if business does not behave responsibly there are several social problems that can follow e.g. loss of income, break up in marriages, suicides, mental disease, etc.

N.B: as business carries out its objectives and makes a profit within agreed justifiable limits and undertakes to meet these obligations socially (where the disadvantaged persons in the society access services) then it can be viewed as enjoying a moral profit.

But where a business carries out its activities and in one way or another denies society access to goods and services, or subjects the society to some suffering and yet it enjoys good profits, it is then having greed profit i.e. the profits are enjoyed by only a few even with disregard to the environment.

How greed profits and normal profits come about

(Understanding the market structure in which the business operates)

Generally, most businesses operate in the following market structures:

(a) Pure competition – this is where businesses enters and exits the industry with ease i.e. at their own will or strength. Pure competition operates under certain assumptions:

– Easy entry and easy exit.

– the business takes the price set by the industry

– it assumes no transportation costs

(b) Monopoly – here a single business dominates the industry or even forms the industry e.g. the Kenya power and lighting company, KPLC. Here, the business sets the price. The ability to remain monopoly depends on strong financial muscles, control over key technology or resource

(c) oligopoly – here the market consists of a few businesses that serve the market e.g for the petroleum companies such as the BP,Shell,Total…

(d) Monopolistic competition – here the market structure exhibits some pure competition conditions and monopoly conditions.

Conclusion

From the foregoing argument, it is established that profit is a necessary evil i.e. it is needed for the business to operate in a healthy way in which case it is moral

It is only when businesses include ultra-vires objectives in its activities and uses the profits earned with disregard to the society and the environment that it becomes immoral

Recommendations

The way businesses make profit and how they conduct themselves dictates how they are relating to morality of profit. E.g. in the case of monopoly businesses, businesses seem to go for greed profit which is viewed as immoral. Irrespective of whether they are contributing to social responsibility or not the pursuit of profit should not be looked at as a good in itself, but as an avenue of achieving good in the society hence a necessary evil.

It must also be understood that it is important to understand the existence of the diversity of the people of the world and their communities e.g. the people in South America; Asia; Australia and New Zealand; the people in Europe; in North America and the people in Africa cherish their own respective views. We have however established here in this paper a consideration of the position of the global village against the current universally shared interests, markets, currencies, education systems and information technology etc.

For African societies, it is better if they frame the development of their economies based on attachment to the soil. This statement is framed so because looking at the activities that can lead to creating more employment and sustenance have attachment to the soil and the environmental management e.g. hunting; pastoralism; agriculture; tourism; mining; and the currently astronomical generation of electricity via hydro, or solar. Enhancement of such activities shall ultimately steel the current dwindling of crops growing; production of food that shall hence stimulate the development of agriculturally related industries to satisfy man’s needs. There is an avenue for people to use their potential by buying the needed products. This shall also strengthen the industries that produce them.

Purple Martin Bird House Selection Guide

Purple Martins are a large swallow indigenous to North America, and are cavity-nesting birds that have finished in population over the course of the 20th century. They are almost entirely dependent upon humans to provide nesting sites, particularly across eastern North America where human populations are far more dense. Martins actually thrive in proximate to humans! To make matters worse, Purple Martin populations are also threatened by European Starlings, which are also cavity-nesting birds that will aggressively overtake martin houses, sometimes by violent force. However, these wonderful birds have been subjected to numerous scientific studies, so being a bird landlord these days is quite simple!

So where to start? Well, start by putting up a Purple Martin bird house or gourd! Purple Martin housing comes in a variety of shapes, sizes, and price, so there is a house for everyone's budget and level of commitment. If you're more adventurous, and want a bigger payoff for your work, try a multi-room wooden house, mounted to a telescoping pole system. These mammoth bird houses act as condos for entire colonies of Purple Martins, but are more expensive and difficult to maintain than the smaller plastic gourds. However, they are quite aesthetically pleasing, particularly when there are dozens of birds zipping in and out!

Here are some more tips on setting up and maintaining a Purple Martin House:

  • Keep the bird house away from trees. There should be no trees taller than the house & pole you've set up at least 60 feet in any direction.
  • The pole should be twelve to twenty feet in height, and you'll need to use a pole guard to keep raccoons and other predators at bay.
  • If you do not have a pole guard, consider a house with deeper and larger compartments that will keep the nests out of a predator's reach.
  • If there are going to be trees around, try to mount the house at a height * above * the tallest tree in the surrounding area.
  • You'll need at least 24 total nesting compartments to ensure the colony thrives at your location.
  • Entrance holes larger than 6 "x 6" will be an open invitation for the pesky and unwanted Starling or House Sparrow.
  • Use an excluder door, or crescent shaped gourd door, to keep Starlings and Sparrows from invading the nests and wreaking havoc.
  • You'll note that all Purple Martin bird houses are white, and that's for good reason. The white color reflects the heat of the summer to keep the inside nests cool.
