Computer Security, Viruses And Threats

Today, many people rely on computers to do homework, work, and create or store useful information. Therefore, it is important for the information on the computer to be stored and kept properly. It is also extremely important for people on computers to protect their computer from data loss, misuse, and abuse.

For example, it is crucial for businesses to keep information they have secure so that hackers can’t access the information. Home users also need to take means to make sure that their credit card numbers are secure when they are participating in online transactions. A computer security risk is any action that could cause loss of information, software, data, processing incompatibilities, or cause damage to computer hardware, a lot of these are planned to do damage. An intentional breach in computer security is known as a computer crime which is slightly different from a cybercrime. A cybercrime is known as illegal acts based on the internet and is one of the FBI’s top priorities. There are several distinct categories for people that cause cybercrimes, and they are referred to as hacker, cracker, cyberterrorist, cyberextortionist, unethical employee, script kiddie and corporate spy.

*The Hacker.

The term hacker was actually known as a good word but now it has a very negative view. A hacker is defined as someone who accesses a computer or computer network unlawfully. They often claim that they do this to find leaks in the security of a network.

*The Cracker.

The term cracker has never been associated with something positive this refers to someone how intentionally access a computer or computer network for evil reasons. It’s basically an evil hacker. They access it with the intent of destroying, or stealing information. Both crackers and hackers are very advanced with network skills.

*The Cyberterrorist.

A cyberterrorist is someone who uses a computer network or the internet to destroy computers for political reasons. It’s just like a regular terrorist attack because it requires highly skilled individuals, millions of dollars to implement, and years of planning.

*The Cyberextortionist.

The term cyberextortionist refers to someone who uses emails as an offensive force. They would usually send a company a very threatening email stating that they will release some confidential information, exploit a security leak, or launch an attack that will harm a companies network. They will request a paid sum of money to prevent the threat from being carried out, a bit like black mailing.

*The Unethical Employee.

An unethical employee is an employee that illegally accesses their company’s network for numerous reasons. One could be the money they can get from selling top secret information, or some may be bitter and want revenge.

*The Script Kiddie.

A script kiddie is someone who is like a cracker because they may have the intentions of doing harm, but they usually lack the technical skills. They are usually silly teenagers that use prewritten hacking and cracking programs. *The Corporate Spy.

A corporate spy has extremely high computer and network skills and is hired to break into a specific computer or computer network to steal or delete data and information. Shady companies hire these type people in a practice known as corporate espionage. They do this to gain an advantage over their competition an illegal practice.

Business and home users must do their best to protect or safeguard their computers from security risks. The next part of this article will give some pointers to help protect your computer. However, one must remember that there is no one hundred percent guarantee way to protect your computer so becoming more knowledgeable about them is a must during these days.

When you transfer information over a network it has a high security risk compared to information transmitted in a business network because the administrators usually take some extreme measures to help protect against security risks. Over the internet there is no powerful administrator which makes the risk a lot higher. If your not sure if your computer is vulnerable to a computer risk than you can always use some-type of online security service which is a website that checks your computer for email and Internet vulnerabilities. The company will then give some pointers on how to correct these vulnerabilities. The Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Center is a place that can do this. The typical network attacks that puts computers at risk includes viruses, worms, spoofing, Trojan horses, and denial of service attacks. Every unprotected computer is vulnerable to a computer virus which is a potentially harming computer program that infects a computer negatively and altering the way the computer operates without the user’s consent. Once the virus is in the computer it can spread throughout infecting other files and potentially damaging the operating system itself. It’s similar to a bacteria virus that infects humans because it gets into the body through small openings and can spread to other parts of the body and can cause some damage. The similarity is, the best way to avoid is preparation. A computer worm is a program that repeatedly copies itself and is very similar to a computer virus. However the difference is that a virus needs to attach itself to an executable file and become a part of it. A computer worm doesn’t need to do that, it copies itself to other networks and eats up a lot of bandwidth.

A Trojan Horse named after the famous Greek myth and is used to describe a program that secretly hides and actually looks like a legitimate program but is a fake. A certain action usually triggers the Trojan horse, and unlike viruses and worms it will not replicate itself. Computer viruses, worms, and Trojan horses are all classified as malicious-logic programs which are just programs that deliberately harm a computer. Although these are the common three there are many more variations and it would be almost impossible to list them. You know when a computer is infected by a virus, worm, or Trojan horse if your computer displays one or more of these things:

* Screen shots of weird messages or pictures appear.

* You have less available memory than you expected.

* Music or sounds plays randomly.

* Files get corrupted.

* Programs are files don’t work properly.

* Unknown files or programs randomly appear.

* System properties fluctuate.

Computer viruses, worms, and Trojan horses deliver their payload or instructions through three common ways.

1 – When an individual runs an infected program so if you download a lot of things you should always scan the files before executing, especially executable files.

2 – When an individual boots a computer with an infected drive, so that is why it’s important to not leave removable media in your computer when you shut it down.

3 – When an unprotected computer connects to a network. Today, a very common way that people get a computer virus, worm, or Trojan horse is when they open up an infected file through an email attachment.

There are literally thousands of malicious logic programs and new ones come out by the numbers so that’s why it’s important to keep up to date with new ones that come out each day. Many websites keep track of this. There is no known method for providing 100% protection for any computer or computer network from computer viruses, worms, and Trojan horses, but people can take several precautions to significantly reduce their chances of being infected by one of those malicious programs. Whenever you start a computer you should have no removable media in the drives. This goes for CD, DVD, and floppy disks. When the computer starts up it tries to execute a boot sector on the drives and even if it’s unsuccessful any given virus on the boot sector can infect the computer’s hard disk. If you must start the computer using removable media for any reason, such as when the hard disk fails and you are trying to reformat the drive make sure that the disk is not infected.

How can you protect your computer?

The best way to protect your computer from any of the above is by using good quality internet securities software. Purchasing this from a reputable security company is recommended to ensure that your software is kept up to date with the most recent virus signatures. If you are not up to date an unrecognised virus will not be stopped by the software. A full security package will protect you from viruses, Worms, Trojan horses, keyloggers and will detect when a hacker is attempting to hack into your computer and prevent them from gaining access when you are online or connected to a network. It is not advisable to use a free antivirus service as these do not provide adequate protection and are a false economy. Recommended internet security software companies are:- Norton, McAfee and others.

Discount Tire Franchise Review

With more than 790 stores in 23 states, Discount Tire Company has grown to become the world’s biggest self-regulating tire and wheel retailers today. In 1960, the company’s founder Bruce T. Halle borrowed a building on Stadium Boulevard in Ann Arbor, MI.

Although the catalog consisted of only six tires (four of which were retreads) and the display area was not quite the showroom we see today, reliance, vision and hard work were then, and still remain, the groundwork on which this company has grown-up and flourished.

As with any new start up, Bruce Halle’s business enterprise faced many obstacles – perhaps one of the biggest being that he didn’t own an air compressor. What he would do is run to a nearby gas station and fills up the tire with air before he sells them. Out of need, he became a guru at inventory turn.

He was not just a sales man, Bruce Halle was the all around man for the job. He was the tire technician, accountant, store computer man, sign painter and the cleaning crew. Day in and day out, each tire he replaced himself. This one-man operation process slowly grew into what is now one of the most prestigious tire companies in the USA.

Discount Tire Company received the “Most Admired Company” Award voted by its peers in Arizona and time after time ranks #1 in revenue according to Arizona Corporate Excellence 100 for privately held companies.

Tire Business & Modern Tire Dealer both consider Discount Tire Company as the #1 independent tire retailer based on number of outlets and annual revenues. The company was also known by Forbes magazine, for placing in the 171 spot of their 500 best companies with impressive annual revenues.

Discount Tire Company has a dream that not only lives but thrives in the hearts of its employees each and every day. From part-time to full-time employees at the store, regional or corporate level their employees work to be the finest in the business.

One common cord running through the hearts of everyone within the organization remains the same – treat customers and one another with respect and fairness. Help those in needs, always do what is right, work hard, be responsible and have fun.

The workers of Discount Tire represent its philosophy and its brand by remaining knowledgeable, friendly and honest. By offering the highest level of customer service, more product options and the lowest prices, they have earned the right to be considered trusted experts.

Making sure that each customer is satisfied allowed Discount Tire to become a front runner in the tire industry. Their continual growth not only provides opportunities for employee advancement, but allows more customers to remain certain when choosing Discount Tire for all of their tire and wheel needs.

The Tricks of Ancient Greek Architects

The center-piece and most celebrated of the new projects was the temple to Athena the Virgin, known as the Parthenon. A deliberate attempt was made in the design of this building to achieve visual perfection, using a very sophisticated knowledge of optics. It seems to be constructed according to a plan based entirely upon straight lines, yet there is hardly a single straight line in it, although the tolerance for error is a fifteen of an inch. Its perceived aesthetic perfection is a carefully contrived optical illusion of a high level of sophistication only fully revealed during the mid-nineteenth century by the work of the British archaeologist Roger Penrose. It had realized that our eyes play tricks upon us, and that in order to produce in observers the visual impression of a perfectly designed and constructed building, it would be necessary to take these discrepancies of perception into account by systematically compensating for them in the design.

The ancient architect realized that if the temple was constructed on a perfectly flat surface, our eyes, being deceived by the bright sunlight, would falsely perceive the floor to sag in the middle. He saw that if the columns were constructed perfectly perpendicular to the base platform on which they were authenticated, they would appear to lean slightly outwards. He also realized that if each of the columns were to be authenticated with exactly the same diameter from top to bottom, they would both appear to be narrower in the middle than they really were. Moreover, if all the columns were made with the same diameter, the outer columns would appear slightly thinner than the others due to the effect of the bright Attic sunlight; for the more well-lighted object is, the less voluminous it appears.

The architects employed all their insight and skill to compensate for these and other distortions of visual perception in their design. Thus the surface of the platform on which the columns stand has been made slowly convex, so that it appears to be flat. The outer columns have been made to lean slowly inwards, so that if each were to be extended upwards they would meet in the center about one thousand meters above the roof. This exactly eliminates the illusion that perfectly perpendicular columns would create, of leaving slightly outwards. The forty-six outer columns were delicately made slightly thicker in their middle drums, where most of the light falls, so as to appear perfectly straight. The corner columns, being lighted from both sides, have been made slightly larger in diameter than the others.

These "special effects" are by no means limited to the major features of the construction. The frieze decorations were also systematically diverted to allow both for the effects of being seen from a distance and also for being viewed from the vantage point of observers below. Thus the figures on the frieze stoop slowly downwards. The lower parts of the decorations have a depth of three centimetres, while the upper have a depth of five and a half.

The ancient architects understand not merely those illusions which viewing a large building in a glaring light may generate, they know how to compensate for them. But most surprising of all is the fact that they also knew exactly by how much to compensate for them.

One much-praised aspect of the appearance of the Parthenon, however, was not the result of ancient knowledge and skill. Travelers of the eighth and nineteenth centuries praised its beautiful golden patina. This had developed over the centuries, and could not have been foreseen by the ancient builders. It was due to the oxidation of tiny particles of iron in the marble. Much of the building would, in any case, originally have been painted in gaudy colors, the reliefs being picked out in bright blue, red and gold. Today, with the gradual replacement of the old marble, projected to retire from traffic fumes, by bright white recently cut blocks, the famous patina has been lost.

Cardboard Drink – Flat Storage Racks

Okay, I told you about how Ms. Betty told me to get my act together and "GET RID OF THOSE BUCKETS!" Well, after I had made my rock fence, I was feeling pretty proud of myself and thought to myself … "You know yourself, you bought to go one step further and get all those piles of rocks downstairs put up somewhere neatly, so you can walk down there. " (Really, that's what I told myself! Hey, I'm like that … I often talk to myself! I could not just take THOSE rocks out to the new rock fence! I just had to come up with something else.

Well, again, after much deliberation, I came up with an idea. I would make a storage system for all my pretty rocks and still be able to keep them downstairs. (My sweet Ms. Betty really is not into rocks … except for those she can wear on her fingers, and she does not have appreciation for all my lovely rough ones!)

What I came up with is what I call my "CARDBOARD DRINK-FLAT STORAGE RACKS."

Like a lot of rockhounds, I store a lot of rocks in the cardboard drink flats that you can pick up for free at most any food or convenience store. They work great, except you just can not have them lying around all over the place. You have to store them somehow!

Well, anyway, here are some pictures of the racks I came up with to hold those cardboard flats.

All of these storage racks are made of scrap 2 x 4's and 1/2 "wafer-board (often called OSB board.) All the 2 x 4's are cut 10-1 / 2" long.

Naturally, the length of the wafer-boards depends on whether you make a rack with one section, three, five, or whatever, but it should be 10-1 / 2 "wide.

My niece dropped by to give us a hand sorting out a new shipment of shark tooth fossils from Morocco.

You could use plywood instead of wafer-board, but the wafer-board is less expensive. What you want to do is make the racks with openings that are 16-1 / 2 "wide. If you'll put the 2 x 4's on 18" centers, this will give you 16-1 / 2 "openings. Almost all the cardboard drink flats that you get are 16 "wide by 10" deep by about 2 "high. These flats fit nicely in the storage rack openings.

Once you make the individual storage rack sections with the 2 x 4's and wafer-board, just stack them up on top of each other where you want them. You might want to attach them to a wall or to each other if you stack the sections very high in order to prevent them from falling over. I have one section of these storage racks in my basement that is 25 sections high and has five spaces each. That's 125 flats of beautiful rocks I can put on this one section. (You can never have too many rocks you know). I have this storage rack anchored to the wall about every 5th section with just a couple of 16 penny nails.

Here are some working storage racks built to hold some of the Great South Gems and Minerals fossil inventory. We have rows and rows of these.

If you want to build one of these rack systems for your beautiful rocks or other collectibles, and have a problem working out the dimensions, drop me an email and I'll try to assist you.

I made this single-wide storage cabinet and put wafer-board on the sides and top. Then I made a wafer-board door for the front to make a neat storage cabinet out of it. It has a piece of 1/4 "plywood on the back.

This set of racks was made to organize my hand tools. Makes an excellent tool chest! Why, there's no limit to what you can store in these racks, but why would you want anything except pretty rocks?

By the way, the choice specimens that are in my rock and fossil collection are arranged neatly in wooden chests with pullout drawers. The material in many of these cardboard flats is overflow that I just can not part with. I know some of you can relate to that!

Well, now, you do not have any more excuses for not getting your rocks put up and stored away neatly. Go ahead, give it a shot. If your mate is anything like mine, she will appreciate your efforts!

Wire Strippers and Stripping Machines

Wire stripping machines and wire strippers are used to remove insulation from electrical wires and coaxial cables among other kinds of wiring. A stripper usually refers to a handheld device that is portable but a stripping machine is an industrial version of the same used in heavy duty casing removals. The machine that you get to use will generally be determined by the task at hand. The fact, however, is that the two kinds of strippers are available in manual and automatic types. They all work in making the work easier compared to trying to strip the wires using bare hands as many people do.

Wire Stripping Methods

There are different methods that are used in stripping wire. They include:

Cutting to strip: It is the simplest way of stripping wire. It moves the casing by simple cutting and this is the method most people will use in situations that are not complicated.

Abrasive stripping: It involves the use of a rough wheel which wears the insulation away and also ends up polishing the wire leaving it clean. It is among the simplest methods available.

Thermal stripping: It is a method that involves burning or melting the insulation. It is done in such a way that no damages occur to the wire during the process.

Chemical stripping: It involves the use of chemicals which are designed to react with wire insulation making it dissolve away. The reaction leaves the naked wire ready for use.

Laser stripping: This is a more high-tech method of stripping wire and it is used in very special applications. It removes the wire insulation without any disturbance to the conductive metal that is underneath.

Manual Strippers versus Automatic

Manual strippers: They will normally have a scissor-like device or a device that is like a wire cutter with opposing blades. The blades come in series to handle differently sized wires through the notches for easy stripping. They are easy to use with the wire being placed in the sizable notch before a cut is made in the insulation. This then offers the clear chance to pull down the wire, considering that insulation is never bonded to the wire. The strippers can function as wire cutter benders and coaxial cable wire strippers.

Automatic strippers: They grip and strip the wires in simple single motions. They are therefore much faster compared to the manual versions. They are ideal for individuals looking for tools which can handle large volumes of stripping. The machines can however be limited to the wire sizes, they can handle. They are in a wide range and a user must find one that can accommodate the appropriate wire range in terms of size. If you are dealing with wires of different sizes, you might find the manual strippers better to use.

There are different kinds and brands of wire stripping machines so be sure to shop around to get the best for your kind of needs. They will also be priced differently depending on their quality and functions.

Bad Credit Mortgage Loans With Low Interest Rates

Owning your own home is a dream shared by millions of Americans. Whether you are a single mom or a young family or an upwardly mobile professional, there is nothing like turning the key in your own front door.

An integral part of buying a home is taking out a mortgage. Even tycoons who can afford to pay cash for homes take out mortgages because if the interest rate is low enough it can be financially advantageous to borrow. Taking out a mortgage is something that virtually every homeowner does. The key is to borrow money at the lowest possible interest rate. Even a one-point difference in your interest rate over 30 years can make a big difference in the amount you'll pay over the term of the loan. For example, if you take out a 30-year mortgage for $ 200,000 at 7% interest, you will pay $ 1,330 each month. Over the life of the loan you will pay a total of $ 279,017. For the same loan if your interest rate is 6%, you will pay $ 1,119 a month and over the period of the loan you will pay a total of $ 231,676. That's a savings of $ 47,341. It's significant!

How do you get a lower rate?
Your lender will take into account many factors when determining how much to lend you and at what rate. These include:

• The appraised value of the property
• The sale price of the property
• The amount of your down payment
• Your income
• How much other debt you owe
• And, last but not least, your credit score

It can be seen that your credit score is an important factor, but it is not the only factor. A good credit score of at least 580 or higher will improve your chances of receiving a lower interest rate. The very low interest rates are given to qualified borrowers who have high credit scores. For example, according to the Fair Isaac Corp. (FICO), a borrower with a score of 620 might pay 6.3% for a mortgage loan while the same person with a score of 800 might pay 4.7%, and pay $ 300 less per month on a typical $ 300,000, 30-year loan.

Getting a mortgage loan
If you have a low credit score and you want to get a mortgage, you should begin by shopping around. Talk to lenders. Give them your information. See what criteria are the most important for them. You may find that a local credit union will give you a better deal than a bank.

If you discover that you can not get the rate you need to buy the property, then there are several ways you can make your loan application more competitive.

• Get a bigger down payment. If you can put down 20% or more, then you will get a lower rate, you will not have to pay private mortgage insurance, and you'll qualify for a larger loan. But the catch is that the bank will want to make sure that you are putting down your own money. You can not borrow money for the down payment, and lenders even frown upon relatives giving you the money as a gift. So if your parents, for example, want to give you cash for a down payment, put it in your bank account well ahead of time.

• You can also pay down your debts and improve your credit score. Concentrate on paying off accounts that have posted negative items on your credit report.

• If you have negative items that are close to seven years old, remember that with the exception of bankruptcy they will fall off your credit history after seven years. Do not open any new lines of credit. Focus on repairing what you have.

• And you can always look around for a house with a lower price. After a few years of successfully paying your mortgage, you'll be able to access more credit and move into that larger house.

4 Car Diagnostic Tools You Need To Have

The modern cars are complex and require some expertise to know the problems that they are having. The cool thing is that there are many tools in the market that you can go with in order to identify the problems that your car has. These tools include:

Multimeter

A multimeter helps you to test the electrical current through your car. The sensors on your car convert the multimeter readings to voltages that the car computer can understand. Using the tool you will be able to check the sensor's output voltage in order to verify a faulty wiring system. You will also be able to know if your system has a bad part that is creating out-of-spec signals that might be problematic in the future.

Vacuum-pressure gauge

The tool helps you to identify a problem in your engine. When the engine has problems, the problem is usually due to fuel, air or spark. The tool covers the air department so that you are able to work through the maze of vacuum lines in order to identify a leak or cracked tube that might be causing problems.

Fuel pressure gauge

The unit helps you to know whether the engine is getting enough or too much fuel. This helps you to eliminate some of the problems that your engine might be having.

OBD code reader

If you own a car you know the panic that comes in when the "Check Engine" light comes on. The first thing that many car owners do is rush to the nearest garage to have the car inspected. With the OBD code reader, you no longer have to panic when the light comes on. All you need to do is connect the tool to your car and you will know the exact problem that your car is having. This saves you money as you do not have to hire someone to do it for you. You also avoid the guess work game that results in more problems.

There are many types of OBD code readers in the market that you can go for. You only need to choose the one that is ideal for you. If you want the most advanced tools, there are those that connect to your phone and send you all the details that you need to know about your car.

Conclusion

These are the diagnostic tools that you need to have to identify the problems in your car. For ideal results ensure that you properly use the tools.

Investing In Solar Panels

There are many ways to utilize renewable energy resources for your home. One of the best ways to achieve this goal is to install solar panels on your rooftop. This is a great investment and is a step in the direction to make your home more eco friendly.

Investing into solar panels has a low ROI but is a safe investment. One of the ways to make your money back is to sell your energy credits or sell the extra power which is generated by solar panels straight back to the power companies. One of the most obvious benefits of this is that not only do your energy costs go down but you might even actually get paid by the power companies.

Solar panels can be quite expensive. One of the ways to offset the initial costs is to actually build your own panels, that is if you have the time to dedicate to the project.

There are a lot of well known manufacturers which make high quality solar panels. The prices vary quite a bit between these different companies and they are constantly changing due to market conditions. There are lists around the internet where you can find the different prices per kilowatt of power produced by the panels being sold.

It is also important to note that you should not invest into any panels which are manufactured in China. These panels are cheaply produced and there are many quality concerns in regards to service and warranties.

When you decided on a panel to purchase it is now time to install it. There are many different types of panels for different situations. Some of these can be for boats or even RV's. Here we will only be talking about panels for your home.

There are three areas which are typically used to install a solar panel. These are on a roof of a home, on the roof of another building or as its own standalone structure.

The most important thing to consider when deciding on where to place your panel is where on the property gets the most sun during the day. The more sun exposure your panel receives the more energy it will produce for you to use in your home. Also note the sun moves depending on the season so you should strategically place your panel where it is going to get maximum sun exposure for the entire year. You should also consider any obstacles to the light such as trees which can shade your panel and there before make it produce less energy.

When you decided on a location to mount your panel you will have to pick a special panel mount you use. There are three main varieties of solar mounts which you can use and these are pole mounts, flush mounts and roof-ground mounts. Each one of these mounts serves a specific purpose such as installing your solar panel as its own standalone structure or even installing it onto an RV.

Zeolite and Diatomaceous Earth: What Is The Difference?

Diatomaceous earth is a naturally occurring material. Zeolites occur in nature however they can also be manufactured to create a product with a specific chemical makeup and function.

Diatomaceous earth (DE) is a substance made up of the tiny, fossilized exoskeletons of tiny single-celled organisms known as diatoms. It is extremely porous at the microscopic level.

Zeolites are crystalline, hydrated aluminosilicates with very rigid structures. Compositionally, zeolites are very similar to clay minerals however, their special crystalline structure remains rigid even when in water.

DE deposits can be derived from both fresh and salt water sources. There are two main types of DE – food or feed grade and “pool grade”. Diatomaceous earth derived from a freshwater source is considered Food Grade by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Food Grade DE must also meet specific heavy metal content regulations.

Currently over 50 different natural zeolite minerals have been identified and over 100 zeolites have been synthesized. Each type of zeolite has a different size and function however all zeolites are molecular sieves, meaning that they selectively absorb molecules on the basis of shape, size or electrical charge (Carr,1129). The cations in zeolite are very loosely bound allowing them to be exchanged with other cations. Each type of zeolite has the ability to exchange a particular cation in its chemical makeup for another cation.

Zeolites (particularly clinoptilolite) are often added to animal feed and function much the same as food grade diatomaceous earth. Much like DE, zeolite must be fed to animals in controlled amounts. It will increase feed efficiency and decrease the stress of ammonia in animal digestive systems. The addition of food grade diatomaceous earth or zeolite into the diets of livestock including chickens, turkeys and pigs may offer faster growth rates, increased egg production, improved feed efficiency, and drier waste that has less odor.

Diatomaceous earth is commonly used in livestock feed as an anti-caking agent and pelleting aid however its use as a natural insecticide has quickly been gaining popularity. Zeolite is also known to work as an insecticide and due to its high ion exchange and adsorption capacities, natural zeolites, specifically clinoptilolite, are effective carriers of herbicides, pesticides, and fungicides (Carr, 1147). However, zeolites are most commonly used for ammonium-ion removal in waste treatment, sewage treatment, pet litter and aquaculture, as odor control, for heavy metal ion removal from nuclear, mine and industrial wastes and in agriculture as a soil conditioner and fertilizer extender. Zeolite is also used in laundry detergent and water softeners.

It is very important that when utilizing both DE and zeolite that you use the proper type. Only food or feed grade diatomaceous earth can be used as an insecticide and in animal feed. Food grade DE meets very strict regulations in terms of crystalline silica (must be less that 0.1%) and heavy metal content, making it safe for animals to consume.

Obtaining the proper type of zeolite is also very important. There are several types of zeolite (including erionite and some mordenite) that are fibrous in nature and may be classified as asbestos-like materials (Carr, 1151). As well, crystalline silica commonly occurs in zeolite deposits and finely ground products may contain more than 0.1% crystalline silica.

Beautiful Eyes Made Easy

What eye shadow shades work for you will be influenced by your skin tone, hair colour and, most importantly, your eye colour. But the eye shadow shades you choose should ultimately be decided by your personal style, what looks good and feels right to you. This eye makeup article will give you a guide to eye shadow shades that you may find work better for your eye, skin and hair colour. We also offer useful eye makeup tips for applying your eye shadow.

Step 1: Choosing an eye shadow to suit your eye colour

Remember when choosing eye shadow shades that colours should be chosen keeping in mind your eye colour, hair colour and skin tone and not the colour of the clothes you wear.

For Blue eyes the tried and true eye shadow colour is deep blue (a darker shade than your eye colour will make your eyes look really blue). Taupe, gray, violet, and purple are also great eye shadow colours for blue eyes. “Edgy” eye shadow colour favorites for blue eyes include silver, turquoise, and fuchsia.

For Green or Hazel eyes greens are your best eye shadow colour. To really brighten your eyes try a deep khaki or forest green. Brown, apricot, purple, and plum eye shadow will also enhance your eye colour. “Edgy” eye shadow colour favorites for green or hazel eyes are gold, lime-green, really light green, and bright purple.

For Brown eyes tried and true eye shadow colours include: copper, bronze, coffee, champagne (soft pink with a touch of apricot), brown (for a doe-eyed look), beige, and khaki green. “Edgy” eye shadow colour favourites for brown eyes are tangerine, royal blue, hot pink, and lime green. The contrast adds punch to brown eyes.

Eye makeup tip: Generally warm tones i.e. earthy, golden etc. will compliment warm skin (yellow based, olive, medium to dark skins). Cooler tones e.g. pastels will compliment cool skin tones (very fair, very dark, and light to medium skins).

Eye makeup tip: Do not wear bold eye makeup and a bold lipstick at the same time. If you are using vivid or edgy eye shadow team it up with nude lipstick.

Eye makeup tip: When you look at a women’s face you see her eyes not her eye shadow. The general rule is that light shades bring out your eyes and darker shades give them dimension. If you have small eyes, and want to give the impression of larger eyes, you want to stay with lighter shades. If you have large or protruding eyes you would want to use darker shades. Keep the basic principles of light and dark in mind while choosing and applying eye shadow colour. Dark colour recedes, light colour brings forward.

Step 2: Choosing an eye shadow texture

Eye shadow generally has either a matte texture, a more reflective texture (e.g. satin texture) or a shimmering texture (e.g. dimensional or French Pearl texture). Which texture you use is a matter of personal taste however matte and satin textures are typically used for day wear and shimmering textures are typically worn for evening wear.

Step 3: Applying eye shadow

For smoother eye shadow application, that lasts longer, first apply a thin layer of foundation on your eyelids and then apply a thin layer of face powder. This gives you a clean canvas for your eye shadow and will also help to prevent the eye shadow from creasing. This will give you more even, accurate, eye shadow application.

Eye makeup tip: Choose good quality eye shadow brushes which are flat and angled. This will give you more even, accurate, eye shadow application.

Eye makeup tip: Always work your way up from lighter to darker shades, choosing colours that blend easily together.

The classic approach for applying eye shadow to the eyelids is to maximize the eye shape and eye shadow effect by using three matching eye shadow shades: light, medium and dark shades. This is the approach we recommend. Choosing three matching eye shadow shades sounds a little daunting but we’ve done the hard work for you. Our Triple Split eye shadows are one eye shadow split into three coordinated light to dark shades. Using the Triple Split eye shadow, or your personal choice of three matching shades, follow the simple instructions below for spectacular looking eyes!

1. Shape your eyebrows and apply eyeliner.

2. Select your Triple Split eye shadow or your choice of three matching eye shadow shades. Using the lightest shade cover the entire eyelid, from lash line to brow. Use a large flat eye shadow brush.

Eye makeup tip: The lighter shade applied to the brow bone will give the eyes and wide and open look.

3. Apply the medium shade on the lower lid from the lash line to the crease of your eye. Use a smaller eye shadow brush.

4. Use your darkest shade in the outer corners of the eyes, out to the crease. Intensify for a more dramatic night-time look. You can also use this shade as an eyeliner. Remember to blend the shades for a smooth overall effect. Again use a smaller eye shadow brush.

5. Apply mascara sparingly for a sophisticated daytime look. Apply two coats for a more dramatic night-time look.

Remember there are no right or wrong colours. What is important is that you are comfortable with your colour choices so don’t be afraid to experiment.

4 Details of a Masterpiece Designer Kitchen

Having a stylish designer kitchen undoubtedly is a dream come true. In fact, there is the only thing better than this, and it comes in the form of a designer kitchen with fine details. It is the details that make the kitchen as functional and beautiful as you’d like it to be. There are few tricks to creating the features in such a way that they make the difference without you noticing them. Here are some of these secrets in regards to key aspects of the kitchen:

A world of outlets

Undercabinet plug moulding – if you are a fan of discretion, then you can feature plug moulding just beneath the cabinets on the wall. It is convenient and leaves your backsplash clutter-free.

Coordinate the colour of the outlets – electricians typically favour white outlets. Although the colour is not a bad one, it creates a contrast, which takes away from the beauty of non-white backsplashes. Well, you can coordinate the colour of your outlets with that of your backsplash tiles.

Pop-up outlets – one more outlet-free option you have is pop-up outlets. As it disappears into the countertop, this type of outlet is quite useful in areas with no wall cabinets that hide plug moulding strips.

Rotate the outlets sideways – if you are certain about wall outlets, you can have them installed sideways. That way you can position them closer to the counter, which contributes to a less obstructive profile.

Light your designer kitchen

Task lighting – if there is one thing that can make your life easier, it is task lighting. With some undercabinet lighting, you can illuminate different areas of the countertop, which makes food preparation an easier process. Install task lights at the front part of cabinets, not the back.

Glowing cabinets – installing LED lighting strips on both sides of a cabinet creates glowing shelves. Hide the strips behind the face frame, and you have yourself a fantastic ambient effect in the kitchen.

Appliances

Panelling hides your dishwasher – regardless if you are panelling your fridge, you can panel the dishwasher. As it contributes to a more harmonious look in the kitchen, uninterrupted by a stainless steel grey area.

Hideaway your microwave – if you cannot do without a microwave, then you can get one and hide it. Instead of it occupying valuable space on your countertops. For this purpose, you can get a wall cabinet with one of them lift-up doors.

Hood

Don’t overcrowd the hood – if you are using a chimney hood, make sure there are at least 3 inches between it and any cabinets on the left and right. This has the visual advantage of not cramping the space. Besides, wall cabinets are sure to stay cleaner for longer this way.

Glass cabinets next to the hood – this one combo may be visually pleasing but is hardly practical. It calls for non-stop cleaning of grime and grease, which means it is best to install such cabinets elsewhere.

Now that you know these detailing secrets, you can better plan your designer kitchen. Make sure you follow the tips and the place will turn out to be even better.

Tips For Starting An Online Bookstore

I've always wanted to have a bookstore / knitting store, and having one online is so much easier than a bricks and mortar store. However, there are pros and cons to each, and I'd like to share them in the hopes that my story can help anyone interested in opening an online bookstore in their own carefully researched niche.

Finding your carefully researched niche is important for several reasons. With the likes of Amazon and Barnes and Noble as competition, you have to carve out a very specific small piece of the online bookstore pie and serve it with whipping cream. By that I mean, you have to create a very focused smaller bookstore that offers something that bigger websites do not have – a very warm, personal touch.

The Pros of Owning an Online Bookstore

I have chosen affiliate programs as the basis of my bookstore because I do not have to deal with receiving payments, accepting credit cards, processing orders, storing inventory, taking back orders, shipping, and so on and on.

Going to work in a bricks and mortar store would mean putting together the whole package – dress, hair, makeup – with my own online store, I can do what I want, when I want, looking like I want. to go to work, my store is open 24/7/365 to customers around the world, I never meet cranky people face to face (just sometimes in emails!) and my store is private and always peaceful (no cranky kids!).

Faced with a decision between two ideas for how to run my store, I chose option # 1. I can simply fill my site with quality, relevant content pages and encourage visitors to click through to the merchant's website to purchase, or I can use a data feed to create a carbon copy of the original store on my website. I still have to write original copy, to make it unique and not be penalized as duplicate content, but I can have a huge site instantly, automatically updated. Visitors then do not need to leave my website to make their purchases.

The Cons of Owning an Online Bookstore

Of course there are always arguments against shopping online; the cons are that bookstores provide a wonderful customer experience. Maybe you like getting out to book signings, listening to authors read passage, and sitting down in a comfy chair with a stack of books to decide first-hand what you want to buy. And of course, online sites malfunction more often than stores have to unexpectedly close.

As an affiliate marketer there are some things that can make online shoppers annoyed, related and skeptical that you will not have to deal with personally, but you will have to be convincing enough to overcome their hesitation.

If your customer knows exactly what they want, no problem, but if they want to "window shop" the process can be painfully slow as they move from page to page. If they like to "scan and let something pop out at them", they can become frustrated at only being able to view what fits on one page at a time.

When it's time to pull out the plastic, they may question the security of ordering with their card online, wonder if they want to pay high shipping costs, and what happens if they need to return an order?

How I Made My Decision

Most of the cons can be compensated for or avoided by careful choosing of affiliate programs. Few online book companies simply offer books. They also offer reviews, contests, coupons, and ways to participate in what feels like a community.

Website design with care taken to make navigation clear and simple can make browsing and comparison shopping easier, and of course stores with great track records, testimonials, and security in place make all the difference with consumer confidence.

For me, love of my niche combined with love of books convinced me that I've made a great choice, and success is almost assured as my next love, writing, makes it easy to write book reviews. If this all makes sense to you, then you must probably want to try an online bookstore.
