I keep running into people I know from the car business that are tired of putting up with the hassle of selling every day to make chump change and have to start over from scratch with new prospects. The dealership keeps most of the money made while they do most of the work. They are sick of losing deals to their own dealership's sales reps while they were on lunch break or a day off when the customer came back looking for them.

If you were offered a $ 70,000 base salary as well as an additional $ 300 for each sell you made, I would not blame you for wanted to stay where you are. That would never happen though. They keep selling you on what a great deal you have being able to have customers come in from the dealership paying for the advertising, etc.

But regardless of what the dealership does in advertising, fancy balloons, special offers, etc., those vehicles will not sell themselves. You go for a test drive with your customers and answer their questions for what looks like an eternity. You know they are interested, but just can not make up their mind. You can not pressure them because you may lose the deal. They end up wanting to think about it because they want to go over their finances with their spouse. They come back the next day and want to test drive it again with their spouse. You let them and then answer more questions. They tell you about what other better deals they found online and that their mechanic said they should not pay your price unless you agree to fix something first. You do all of this work and then have them back out last minute and buy something on eBay or Craigslist.

Even if you were to make a sale on a $ 70,000 vehicle, will you make more than $ 300?

You are at the mercy of the car lot. If nobody shows up, you have nobody to sell to.

You Gave Me What I Asked for But Not What I Wanted! (Part 1)

Picture the following scenario: You're the project manager ready to deliver the new system your team has been developing for the past two years. Millions of dollars have been spent during those two years to gather requirements, define the system, build an architecture and models, create a work breakdown structure and project schedule with resource allocation, build the system components, integrate, test, validate, fix problems and finally the day is at hand: delivery. You deliver the system with great fanfare and you are confident the system will deliver as promised: greater efficiencies, cost savings, improved customer service, and increased revenue.

Your systems engineering team did an amazing job collecting and vetting requirements from the users, customers, and even the "C-Suite" crowd. Everyone agreed the requirements were well defined and prescribed what the system should do. Your enterprise and systems architects defined the architecture against the requirements, built models of the system, and re-vetted them with stakeholders. A final design was developed and was handed off to the development team to implement. The development team tested their components worked and validated them against the requirements. Once any discrepancies were fixed and regression tested, the systems components were handed to the integration team to "stich" everything together. Again, more testing and validation are completed, problems fixed, regression testing completed, and the system is packaged up for delivery to the stakeholders. Your work is done, and a promotion and a raise will certainly be in the offing for pulling off such a complex project.

Exception … it quickly turns into a disaster. The users start using the system and find it's not doing what they thought it would do. Processes are radically different, data management requires a new set of skills, some people find themselves overburdened with activities while others are now idle, the newly formed help desk is swamped with calls and trouble tickets, customer service takes a beating, and the C- Suite quickly finds out about the mess you delivered. They order the system be taken down immediately and fixed. Instead of that promotion and raise, you're looking at the real possibility of termination and no income at all. What you quickly learn doing a "post mortem" on the project is a very common problem in requirements gathering and management: the stakeholders will say, "You gave me what I asked for, but it's not what I wanted!" Somehow, the project management and systems engineering roles should have been described as "being able to read minds" rather than collect, structure, and vet requirements for a system. But was it the inability to read minds or the process that replied in this fiasco?

Before I go on, I want to quickly define what I mean by "system." Most people reading this article will assume I'm talking about software. In many cases, the system that fails to meet customer expectations is a new software capability. In business, these systems can be bespoke applications developed for a very specific capacity; In many cases, it can be an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution based on applications from SAP, Oracle / Peoplesoft, or Microsoft Dynamics, to name some well-known ERP solutions. However, a system can be anything: an airplane, a ship, a spacecraft, a car, a power generation plant, medical devices … really, anything that meets the definition of "a set of interacting or interdependent components forming an integrated whole . " Think of non-software-based systems that failed to deliver as promised or processed delays and cost overruns: The Ford Edsel and Pontiac Aztec, which had market failures (requirements developed in a market vacuum), the Airbus 380 and Boeing 787 (requirements and implementation mismatch), and the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS), to name a few.

Now that I've defined what a system is, I want to return to the fictitious, but very familiar, story I crafted for the introduction to this article. I posited the question of whether project managers and systems engineers need to read minds or should have changed the process to avoid the disaster. Well, it turns out that mind reading is not a prerequisite for either of these positions. What could have avoided the problems is employing chaos theory and emergence as the approach to systems development. These theoretic constructs are what drive Agile development, which I will provide an overview on how Agile methods work and their implementation.

Agile development, which includes such techniques as Scrum, eXtreme Programming (XP), and Design Systems Development Method (DSDM) are rooted in the idea that the end users must be involved in the entire development process, and that nobody really knows what the end state of the system will look like: the end state emerges from the entire process. This article will not discuss how to implement an Agile process; rather, it will describe some key aspects of the approach and why it works.

Agile methods are fundamentally designed to facilitate communication between all the stakeholders in a project. The processes encourage teams to develop as self-organizing systems, with people assuming roles based on their strengths and interests. Communication is facilitated with "information radiators" that have team members post their progress and issues in a "war room" planning board with Post-It notes. It also recognizes that end-users of the system are both instrumental in the development and do not really know what they want until they see it. That encourages the development of small, incremental solutions to a problem, rather than a monolithic solution that often does not satisfy anyone.

It is the antithesis of how organizations typically operate, because there is a great deal of unpredictability in what the final system will look like and the apprehensive lack of control during the development process. Further, Agile processes tend to have sparse documentation: "ornamental" document deliverables, which provide no value value to the team's ability to develop and deliver a solution are almost entirely eliminated; Much of the text-based documentation are replaced by diagrams, models, and storyboards. Metrics that are grouped are more focused on keeping the team aware of what has been completed and what is in the pipeline rather than the classic Gantt chart progress reports and earned-value data that management is always focused on. Instead, daily "stands" are held: these are short meetings with all the team members to discuss three things: accomplishes, today's objectives, and roadblocks / problems that need to be addressed. The team members include the developers, and end-user representative, testers, user experience developers, and testers.

The focus is on delivering small, incremental pieces of functionality rather than large, monolithic solution. Remember: the users are getting things done without any new systems, so even small improvements in their operations will be appreciated. And because they helped develop it, they will be vested in its success. The interesting piece is that there's no prediction on what the final product will do: as needs change, people change, and missions change, the incremental approach allows the system to evolve as it's developed. With this approach, the problem of "You Gave Me What I Asked for But Not What I Wanted!" is a thing of the past.

In Part 2 of this article, I will discuss why an Agile, incremental, and adaptive approach works, why the old ways of doing business fail so often, and how to sell the approach to a C-suite staff that wants a predictable end- state, lots of meters along the way, and reams of documentation.

• For general trades work such as building maintenance, Medium-duty scaffold system should be used and the load must not exceed 450 kg per bay.
• For work like heavy duty plant maintenance, oil and gas terminal etc, heavy-duty scaffolding should only be used and the load limit for each bay should not exceed more than 675 kg per bay.

Any scaffold system greater than 4m of height, must be installed only by a government certified professional, and at any point of time, QC surveyors are entitled to carry out random checks on tubes, spanners, metal boards, scaffolding accessories / various couplers viz Joint Pins, external joiners etc., whenever required.

Apart from this, at each point of time, it is the employers' responsibility to provide a safe working environment, and welfare facilities which comes under OH & S standards.

Art of Egypt – The Hyksos and the New Kingdom

The Hyksos, literally "Shepherd Kings," were a group of tribal Canaanite tribes who somehow migrated to Egypt. These races were Israeli in origin, and whether they invaded or just moved in, historians held divided opinions on that. However, they unanimously agree that from 1650 BC to around 1550 BC, Egypt was ruled by dynasties that were not essentially native Egyptians.

Those kings, mostly Semic in origin, and superior to the Egyptian techniques of warfare, moved in with a host of cutting edge technology (body armors, chariots, spears, etc), but almost subdued the minority and the elegant Pre-Hyksos Art of the Egyptians. Hyksos, in its basic character, was a more primitive form of art, to say the least. It was the art of the hunter-gatherer, as opposed to the "avant garde" Egyptian motifs of yesteryears.

Although the Hyksos used Egyptians artisans, their art was apparently rudimentary. Pottery, painting, and, especially, architectures fall prey to this primitive wave. In fact, when they moved in, the Pyramids were already half a century old. The Hyksos Art however, was way behind the finesse of Pyramid architecture, even at that point of time. Clay figurines of this period, called the "Second Intermediate Period," demonstrated an utter disregard to form, proportion, and color. That the Hyksos were different from Egyptians could not have had any more evidence evidence than these sculptures. The difficulties of Hyksos were crude, and mostly mud baked, as compared to the superior stone temples of the Egyptians.

Almost after a hundred years of reign, the Hyksos Kings were finally driven out by Ahmose-I, who ushered in the era, the "New Kingdom" (1550-1070 BC). In this period, the entire Egypt was united under a single Pharaoh and the Hyksos were untraceable on the Egyptian territory. New brands of dedicated artisans, termed as, "Servants in the place of Truth," were intended to decorate the tombs of the kings of this era. Magnificent rock tombs of the Pharaohs became the landmarks of this golden era of Egyptian Art and architecture.

Although Thebes remained the cultural heart of this "New Kingdom," these artists built a set of exquisite tombs, at a place now known as Deir el-Medina. Recognition to the individual artist names, an uncommon practice in the ancient societies, became famous norm in this rule. For instance, from the old records it has been established that an artist named "Khonsu," was the master architect of a major of royal tombs. Most art-loving monarchs of Egypt namely, Thutmose, Nefertiti, and Tutankhamen belong to this era, which, in a way, was a period of Egyptian Renaissance. In this melee of re-birth of Egypt, most evidences of Hyksos Art were either destroyed or chiseled out. This stands as an unfortunate reminder of the vengefulness from the most noble of the artists of the ancient era, the Egyptians.

Caring For Your Baby's Feet: What To Do and What To Look Out For

The human foot is designed for a lifetime of use and support. It can often be the difference between an active and enjoyable life, or one crippled by discomfort and limitation. Fortunately, most people experience only minor or temporary foot issues during their lifetime. The time in which the foot begins to develop during infancy and early childhood is vital to ensuring healthy feet during adulthood. This article will discuss some of the ways parents can ensure proper foot development, and what to look out for that could indicate a developmental problem.

The development of the human foot begins in the embryo stage, and continues through the time we spend in the womb. When a baby is born, all the components that a foot needs for proper function are generally present, with the exception of several bones that are only cartilage at that point. Overall, the complete infrastructure is there, and the foot needs only to strengthen, grow, and create bone over time. The body has an amazing ability to do this on it's own, and needs little external help. Parents do have the ability to improve this development, and can play a role in assuring proper development. One of the simplest ways to support this development is to let the baby kick and move their legs. Leg strength, muscle development, and overall range of motion will have a positive effect on proper foot function in the future, as a poorly functional leg will lead to poor foot function. To support this motion, parents should keep their babies uncured and unrestricted, allowing the legs to kick away. This improves and strengthens the hips, knees, ankles, and foot joints, and will help muscle mass and coordination to grow.

Likewise, little restriction should be placed on the feet at this stage. Infants who do not walk do not need shoes for protection, as shoes can restrict the natural development of the foot structure and internal foot strength. During early infancy, the foot is still somewhat pliable, and poorly fitting shoes have the potential of causing foot deformity. Once walking begins, shoes should still be avoided for a short while as the foot needs the pressure of the direct ground to stimulate strength and structural stability development. Of course, when walking on rough or hazardous surfaces outside the home, the infant will need shoes for protection. All walking in the safety of home should be performed without shoes to promote proper foot development. When shoes must be worn, they need to be properly fitted, with enough space for the foot to fit without being too big. Trying to shove a little foot into a tight shoe can be harmful to development, and trying to use a big shoe 'to grow into' can lead to instability and injury.

Walking should not be forced in an infant. There is no set age for the development of walking, as everyone reaches this wonderful milestone at various times. Parents should not use the timing of a sibling or a friend's child as a reference as to when their child should begin to walk, and simply need to let this process occur on its own, when the baby is ready. Given this, any lengthy delay in walking, such as 24 months, should prompt a medical evaluation to determine if there is a problem keeping the child from walking. This is unusual, however, and most parents should be patient and let their infant develop this ability on their own.

Other than allowing for motion and reducing shoe restriction, a baby's foot is easy to care for. Nails should be regularly and carefully trimmed, and the skin should be kept clean and dry. Socks should be worn when it is cold out, one must be careful to keep hair strands from wrapping around the little toes, as a long piece of hair could potentially strandulate a toe if wrapped tight enough. Sharp materials and hot objects like a space heater should be kept out of contact range.

One of the biggest concerns parents have about their baby's feet are the presence of any deformities that may lead to future problems. Serious deformities of the foot are uncommon at birth, and are typically not right right after delivery in the hospital. Some deformities do take time to be noticeable, but the most significant ones are more immediately visible. Infants can be born with a variety of foot deformities, most of which are correctable. These can include rotational deformities, such as clubfoot (rotation of the foot inward) or congenital calcaneovalgus / vertical talus (rotation of the foot far outward). Both of these deformities need immediate correction to prevent future degradation, and are generally successfully cured with casting and bracing or early corrective surgery to release tight ligaments and return the foot to a proper position. Extra toes are sometimes present, which can be removed later on for cosmetic appeal or to ensure proper shoe fitting. Shortly after birth, a condition called metatarsus adductus can be seen in which the foot takes on a c-shape, as the long metatarsal bones are rotated inward too far. This can be corrected with casting, bracing, special shoes, or surgery if the deformity is not addressed until later on in childhood. Some level of this deformity can be considered normal, although if it is noticeable externally it is likely in the abnormal range.

Once the child begins to walk, certain deformities can be seen that were not noticeable before. This includes heightened inward rotation of one of the legs, or less commonly heightened outward rotation. Also called in-pointing, this condition is not unusual. Most cases are simply due to uneven leg muscle development, and will resolve on their own. Some cases, however, are due to a deformity of the hip, the thigh bone, or the lower leg bone, and need either aggressive therapy and bracing to reduce the deformity, or surgery to de-rotate the involved bone.

As the child begins to walk more, one concern many parents have is whether or not their child is flat-footed. All infants with normal foot structure have flat, flexible feet. The arch structure slowly develops as the foot strengnthens. In the beginning, children walk flat-footed, and slowly reach normal arch structure as they begin to walk with a normal heel-to-toe walking pattern by age four or five. If the foot sees excessively flat in the beginning, or if the arch is not forming, then the child may be flat-footed. This is not necessarily a deformity in the strict sense, but due to our society's need for shoe use to protect ourselves from environmental harm (unlike traditional tribal cultures in natural environments), we tend to have weaker feet which do not accommodate well for flat feet later in life. Therefore, prescription arch subsidies are generally used in those with flat feet to prevent or slow future foot strain and deformities that form out of the instability of flat feet, such as bunions and hammertoes. Some children develop bunions and hammertoes very early, and these can even be seen during the infancy period in some cases. Corrective surgical treatment is generally delayed until the skeleton is more developed, and usually these deformities do not pose any early problems.

High arches are another deformity seen in childhood and infancy. This is not an uncommon deformity as the foot develops through childhood and addiction, and generally only needs better shock absorption in the shoes. However, the presence of this deformity in infancy and early childhood often companions birth defects involving the nervous system and muscular structure, although these diseases are often not first.

One final development cause for concern parents often have is when their child walks on their toes. Toe walking, as it is known, is usually a benign habit that the child must be encouraged to break. In this case, the child will be able to stand flat on their feet, but chose either consciously or subconsciously to walk with their heels off the ground. Constant reminders at home and physical therapy (in some difficult cases) can be used to correct this. Other cases are due to actual structural problems, including tightness of the Achilles tendon, spasticity of the rear leg muscles, or neuromuscular disease. These causes need to be addressed individually, and may need a variety of treatment that could include therapy, medication, surgery, or Botox injections.

As one can see, a baby's foot is a remarkable thing, and usually develops just fine on it's own. Parents find themselves in an excellent position to encourage this development based on this advice. Deformities that affect the foot's future ability to function properly are relatively uncommon in infants and young children, but can be corrected in almost all cases when they are present. As a parent, one should be vigilant for any abnormalities, but also recognize that the young foot needs time to properly develop and grow, and many minor early developmental concerns often correct themselves.

How To Build The Side Of The Arm Muscle – 5 Tips

Building a well-sculpted body requires more than knowing just a few types of exercises. Rather, you need to target specific muscles in each part of your body with specific exercises designed to work those parts.

Take the arms, for example. Most people who work out focus mainly on the biceps (front, inside of arm) and triceps (back of arm). But, what about those muscles on the sides of the arm? By targeting those muscle groups, as well, you stand to gain muscles in place you never knew you had them.

Here are 5 tips for how to build the side of the arm muscle:

1. The upper part of the side of your arm is called the medial (side) deltoid:

First, let's get our terminology straight. When we talk about the side of the arm muscle, we really need to distinguish between two types of muscles: the medial deltoid and the brachialis.

The deltoid muscle – which extends directly down from the shoulder blades and into the top of the arms – actually has three parts: front, side, and back. The medial (side) deltoid is the one that looks like it is on the side of your arm.

2. The lower part of the side of your arm is called the brachialis:

Moving down your arm a bit, you have a separate muscle called the brachialis. This is located between the biceps and triceps muscles.

Together, a set of well-developed medial deltoid and brachialis muscles will give the sides of your arms the look you want.

3. For your deltoids, do side lateral rises:

There are a number of exercises that can work out your medial deltoid muscles. We focus here on side lateral rises. Here's how:

a. Pick up two light dumbbells (5-15 lbs.).

b. Stand with your feet apart, about shoulder-width.

c. Hold the dumbbells just in front of your body with the palms of your hands facing each other while slightly bending your elbows.

d. Raise the weights out to the sides and upwards in a semicircular arc until they are just above shoulder level. Hold this position for a moment, then lower them back to the starting position.

e. Repeat.

4. For your brachialis, do the dumbbell bent-over row:

A great exercise for your brachialis muscles is the dumbbell bent-over row. Here is what to do:

a. Stand with your knees bent and your upper body at about a 60-degree angle.

b. Now with the weights fully extended down in your arms, bringing them straight up to your chest by contracting your shoulder blades fully.

c. Inhale and then slowly return the weights to the starting position.

d. Repeat.

5. Also for your brachialis, try reverse curls:
