How Much Does Carpet Cleaning Cost?

If you have never had your carpet cleaned before, you might be a little in the dark as to what to expect. The fact that just about every carpet cleaning company has their own way of calculating cleaning prices doesn’t help either. Prices for carpet cleaning vary greatly depending on the method, the level of service and your location. There are however two basic ways of figuring a cleaning cost.

The first is by the room. This is probably the most popular method of pricing used by carpet cleaners. It allows carpet cleaning services to give consumers a fairly accurate price over the phone without the need to do an onsite estimate. The price should include pre-treatment and normal spotting. The cleaner will usually limit the room size to somewhere between 200 and 300 square feet. Any larger than that and you may be charged for two rooms.

The next method is square foot pricing. This pricing method actually requires the carpet cleaner to do an onsite estimate. They might be able to give you a ballpark price over the phone, but they will need to come to your home and take your room measurements to give you an accurate price. Some cleaners will measure the whole room and others will measure just the open space around the furniture. Either way will probably come to the same price when they multiply it by their square foot rate. Once again, this price should include pre-treatment and ordinary spotting.

Those are the two methods of pricing that most companies use. While I can not give you an average cleaning price, because it does vary, I can tell you that you should be cautious of the lowest bidder. Remember, you get what you pay for. If a carpet cleaner is not making between $80 to $100 an hour they are losing money. If someone bids a job lower than that they are probably going to try to pull one of many carpet cleaning scams on you. So get a few different carpet cleaning quotes and choose wisely.

Wood Craft Supplies For Beginners

If you are in need of a group project for a kids club and would like to teach basic wood crafting skills, consider a simple birdhouse or shelf. For projects this size, the wood craft supplies can be fairly cost effective, especially if you are willing to use scrap lumber and borrowed power tools. Many people are more than willing to donate or offer use of tools and supplies, you may even get volunteers to help with teaching. Even so, you will still need to buy a few essential wood craft supplies. Check funds from your clubs treasury and make a list.

Purchased Wood Craft Supplies

Sandpaper-No matter what project you are undertaking, you will need sandpaper to eliminate cut and splintered ends and to smooth surfaces. Sand paper comes in many grits, you will need an assortment of all kinds.

Wood screws and nails-It just would not be wood working without drilling or hammering. Purchase wood screws and nails that are long enough to attach your wood together.

Wood glue-Applying wood glue to joints before attaching with wood screws and nails will insure a long lasting bond. Once the glue has been applied and the joints put together, wipe off any excess glue that has squeezed out. Wood glue does not dry clear.

Paint and stain-Small bottles of paint can be purchased at craft stores or hardware stores. Clear spray sealer is a wonderful finish to apply to a birdhouse, after it has been completed, to seal the paint from the weather.

Borrowed Wood Craft Supplies

Jig saw-This saw is a versatile tool for woodworking. It can cut dowels to size or cut simple shapes that have been drawn out on wood.

Power drill and bits-Drilling a pilot hole before adding a wood screw will eliminate splitting. Use a drill bit to drill the hole, change to a screwdriver bit and attach the screws.

Miter saw-A chop saw is perfect for cutting straight cuts on narrow boards and, as the name implies, mitering angles.

Measuring tape-There is an old saying, “Measure twice-cut once”. Enough said.

Goggles-Eye protection is a necessity for all aspects of woodworking. If you can’t see your project when you are finished with it, it wasn’t worth doing.

Note: Never allow children to handle power tools of any kind without constant, hands on, adult supervision.

The Internet is full of simple wood craft patterns that are free to download and copy. Consider designing your own if you can’t find what you need or want. Visit your local library for an abundance of books on the subject or scan the magazines at your local supermarket for wood craft topics.

Flat Belly Diet Warning – Case Study Reveals Major Doubts

The most recent nutritional fad is the Flat Belly Diet and the notion of “Belly Flattening Foods.”

Lately there has been a lot of word of mouth about something known as the Flat Belly Diet that features foods that are supposed to be able to burn stomach fat. This belly fat – aka visceral fat – dwells within abdominal cavity and can surround and impact the function of internal organs, which makes stomach fat potentially more dangerous than subcutaneous fat. Subcutaneous fat is what constitutes the dreaded “spare tire” or “beer belly” that most people are long-familiar with.

The Flat Belly Diet was formulated in response to a study done in Spain where eleven overweight people who were progeny of diabetics, were fed 3 contrasting diets comprising of the equal amount of calories each with a different concoction of carbohydrates and fats. One diet was high in carbohydrates, one diet was high in saturated fats and one diet was high in monounsaturated fats. People spend 4-weeks on each diet.

According to Prevention Magazine the promoters of the Flat Belly Diet, researchers ascertained that the people who consumed the diet high in monounsaturated fats lost more weight without additional exercise. However, in interpreting conclusions published in the actual study, this statement is dubious. Here’s what the study tells us, “RESULTS- Weight, body composition, and resting energy expenditure remained unaltered during the 3 sequential dietary periods.”

And while the Flat Belly Diet puts forward that a diet high in monounsaturated fats cuts down weight and visceral fat, here’s what is published in the study. “Using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry we observed that when patients were fed a CHO-enriched diet (carbohydrates), their fat mass was redistributed toward the abdominal depot, whereas periphery fat accumulation decreased compared with isocaloric MUFA-rich (monounsaturated fats) and high-SAT (saturated fats) diets.”

What this signifies – despite the propaganda spread by the Flat Belly Diet – is that the monounsaturated and saturated fat diets resulted in less “stomach fat” accumulation than did the high carb diets. The researchers also clearly state that weight and body fat percentage were unaltered as a result of all 3 diet interventions.

Here is the conclusion as published in the study, “CONCLUSIONS- An isocaloric MUFA-rich diet prevents central fat redistribution and the postprandial decrease in peripheral adiponectin gene expression and insulin resistance induced by a CHO-rich diet in insulin-resistant subjects.”

So despite the statements made by the advocators of the Flat Belly Diet, eating a diet high in monounsaturated fats had no effect on slimming or body fat percentage, and a diet high in saturated fats was just as effective as the monounsaturated diet in preventing visceral – belly – fat from accumulating. And these results were found in people who were overweight and the offspring of diabetes patients. Not exactly life changing results are they?

The inclusion of particular kinds of foods in this reduced calorie eating program does not alter the truth that the Flat Belly Diet is merely the most recent edition of an externally regulated, restrained eating program, simply another gimmick that applies exhausted, old, ill-conceived hope statements such as, “Eat and think your way thin.”

You don’t have to take my word for it, you can check out the abstract of the study for yourself. I’ve a tough time trusting the hype that circles the Flat Belly Diet given the way these results have been twisted. As a result, the Flat Belly Diet should be viewed as simply another diet, a diet – like all the rest – that is not deserving too much of your time or excitement.

California Jumbo Mortgage Loans

California jumbo mortgage loans are very large commercial or residential mortgage loans offered by many financial institutions in California. Generally, they are issued for an amount in excess of $200,000. Also called a non-conforming mortgage, a jumbo mortgage does not obey the rules set by Fannie Mae (Federal National Mortgage Association) or Freddie Mac (Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation).

Like a conventional mortgage loan, California jumbo mortgage loans are available as fixed rate mortgages (FRM) and adjustable rate mortgages (ARM). The formalities followed for obtaining California jumbo mortgage loans are similar to those of traditional mortgage loans. To get details about the loans, such as application forms, loan terms and interest rates, you can seek the help of a licensed mortgage broker.

Since jumbo mortgage loans do not conform to Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac terms, you can expect several associated risks. A California jumbo mortgage usually has a higher interest rate than conforming fixed rate mortgages do. To solve the problem of high interest rate, the lenders usually divide a jumbo mortgage into two separate mortgages. The new California conforming mortgage limits are determined in the month of January of every year. The amounts for California jumbo loan are calculated based on these limits.

The procedure for securing a jumbo loan online is similar to getting approved for a traditional mortgage when you use a mortgage broker. The benefit of California jumbo mortgage loans is that these allow a buyer to finance a highly priced primary residence, vacation home or investment property. At the same time, its higher interest rate may be a major drawback.

The customer must go through the legal terminology and understand what the action actually involves before entering into an agreement with a California jumbo mortgage lender. Just like a traditional mortgage, it is wise to compare rates and fees to find the best choice. Demand quotes from a mortgage broker before choosing a mortgage lender. Also, ask for information on the fees included in the mortgage, which must be disclosed according to the federal law.

Considering that colors affect our perceptions, they ensure the colors chosen offer an appealing and cozy look to the house. Most of the times, they will avoid bright colors for the bedroom. Instead, they choose neutral, pastel and warm color schemes for the bedroom décor.

· Wall décor

Furnishings on the wall provide a spending and unique look to the house. Catchy pictures, stylish wallpapers and colorful wall coverings provide a fabulous outcome in addition to creating an impressive interior environment.

· Flooring

The quality of the floor contributes a great deal to the appearance of the home décor. Ceramic tiles, marble, laminate flooring and vinyl are recommended for brightening up the bathroom and the kitchen. On the other hand, wood and carpet helps to transform the living room into an attractive place to be in.

What’s Inside Your Tingle Tanning Lotion?

When shopping around for new tanning lotions, it is important to choose a product that will both meet your tanning goals and protect your skin. In order to do this, you must be sure to read and understand their manufacturer labels. The type of lotion you eventually decide on will depend on your level of tanning experience, your skin type, and your personal preferences.

A popular option for the more advanced tanning bed user is called a tingle lotion. Colloquially referred to as “tinglers”, they are the most intense tanning products on the market. You can purchase tingle tanning lotions at almost any tanning salon, beauty store, or online vendor. And just like all skin care products, they range in intensity, quality, and price.

If you have never used a tingler before, it is highly recommended to understand how they work before using them. A great place to start is by reviewing some of the common ingredients found in most tingle lotion formulas. Continue reading to do just that!

How They Work

Tinglers work by increasing the circulation of blood and oxygen to the surface of the skin. The application of a tingler amplifies the effect of ultraviolet rays in tanning beds. This creates a reaction in the skin by producing more melanin. Melanin is the pigment that gives skin color. Following application, tinglers will cause tingling sensations, reddening, and slight inflammation of the skin as a result of the intense oxygen circulation. These reactions generally reside after about one hour or so.

Common Tingler Ingredients

Tingle tanning products contain a wide range of ingredients. However, the fundamental constituents for all tinglers include Methyl Nicotinate or Benzyl Nicotinate, as well as various moisturizing elements.

Methyl Nicotinate – Methyl Nicotinate is a nicotinic acid methyl ester used as rubefacient (a substance for topical application) to increase microcirculation to the skin. This exposes more oxygen to melanin-producing cells known as melanocytes, which are located in the skin’s epidermis. Upon exposure to UV rays, a process called melanogenesis is triggered, causing skin cells to produce more melanin and become darker.

Benzyl Nicotinate -Benzyl Nicotinate is an ester of benzyl alcohol and nicotinic acid. It works in a very similar way to Methyl Nicotinate by increasing the circulation of blood and oxygen to the surface of the skin. When applied, Benzyl Nicotinate causes capillaries in the epidermis to open up. As a result, skin tingles, reddens, and produces more melanin upon UV ray exposure.

Moisturizers – In order to achieve a good-looking tan, skin must be moisturized, which is why virtually all tanning lotions contain moisturizing agents. As for tingle products, the common types of moisturizing additives include Vitamin E (or tocopheryl acetate), black currant, hemp seed oil, avocado, shea, cocoa butter, white tea extract, silicon, and various essential oils.

Living With the Addict or Alcoholic

They were your friend, your lover, your child, your parent. You shared your dreams, and desires, the good times and the bad. Your life has progressed from the Friday night parties to really making your way in this world, but their minds have stayed in that high school mentality. When they acknowledge you, they are in some kind of trouble. Trouble seems to plague them and you are beginning to believe that if it was not for bad luck, they would have no luck at all. They need a place to stay for the night. They need to be bailed out of jail. They need money. They need you to do something, call in sick, lie for them, help them, take an action for them, give them. Each time you see them they look a little worse. Each time you deal with them, they are a little more snide, negative, manipulative, demanding, or just plain mean.

How could they let themselves get this way? Why can they not see what they are doing to themselves? The fact is they can, but can not see a way or reason to stop. Call it what ever you want, addiction is baffling. It affects the body and the mind. The compulsion to use is overwhelming. It affects everyone the addict or alcoholic comes in contact with. You were their friend, and you can help.

There is a lot of literature that has been written about detachment, and enabling. It seems everything we do to help or support the individual in getting into recovery is enabling. How do you detach? How do you keep your house going and turn your back on a husband or child? You know they are a good person, it is just the disease. They are dying, and pull at your heart strings. You need to decide to stop the chaos in your own world and continue on with your life. This is where the road forks. Decide for yourself whether you will take charge situation, or continue to be sucked into the vortex of their disease.

There are many circumstances, and many different scenarios. We like to believe that our situation is unique and special. The recurring patterns of addiction, however, give us clues as to what actions we can take to maintain ourselves, and support the addict alcoholic with out falling into their manipulative self serving environment. It requires us to have strength of character, much stronger than we can imagine. We need to steal ourselves for the inevitable. We are the ones that need to take control of all situations and through our action, stay the course.

To begin with, you need to understand that the addiction is, is only a symptom. That it is part of the problem. To deal effectively with addiction we must tackle not only the physical, but the behavioral and emotional issues as well. Their denial of the addiction, is part of the disease. This is what brings them pleasure. This is what stops the pain. They can not see how using has changed them at all. This is especially true for alcohol.

In many ways you are dealing with a teenager. Actually, most individuals stop maturing based on the age that they start using. Far too often you are looking at a 40 year old man who is acting like a 14 year old boy. Look at the entire picture, and see if you do not agree. Using adult logic falls on deaf ears. If you are finding yourself asking the question, "Why did you do that." The answer 9 out 10 times will be I did not think. That is the difference between an adult and a teenager. They simply never thought of the consequences. For example, the Maplewood man that stopped at the bar with his 1 year old in the back seat. He stopped for a single beer. 5 hours later he is arrested for child endangerment. He simply did not notice that the time had gone by. What non alcoholic parent observers stopping for a beer in the first place as a good adult choice? Responsibility for someone other than himself, simply disappeared. If he were 14, you would chalk that up to childish behavior, but he was 37. Is he a criminal? He is simply a drunk. His disease is progressing and now he is not laughable but a danger to others.

You can make a difference. You can stop accepting behavior that is child like, and raise the bar. You can draw the line in the sand, and tell them, "No more. You come up to my level and do for yourself." It is okay to say no and force them into the corner, simply by not allowing their antics to wash over you. When they ask for you to help them again, ask them what is different this time. You will listen to a flurry of promises, justification, and rationalization, excuses and blame. If you disagree they will try another tactic, perhaps screaming at you convicting you that all their misfortune is your fault. They will try many different techniques to get you emotionally enmeshed in their universe. Here is where we fail the addict or alcoholic. We lower ourselves to their emotional level. At this point, you have the power to succeed in making a difference. In the upcoming teleclass, May 7th and 13th, we will be talking about specific tactics you can use. You need to take the emotional power out. Here is a skill that creates result. You must be prepared. They will change tactics in mid sentence when they realize one is not working. They may go in seconds from gently talking, to screaming. Imagine the small child that asked for a balloon and was shocked when they did not get it. As the only adult in the room it is your responsibility to stay calm. Be as emotionless as possible. Do not allow yourself to be sucked into their emotional mess.

Stop compromising, and start standing up for you. Only you can help them set their bar higher. They have lost that ability to try to reach for success. For more information, and to join a teleclass focused on living with addiction, go to http: //fnfclass.motivate4success

You have the power to change a life, but only if you are willing. Make a difference today.

The State Workers Compensation Board of Georgia

The State Workers Compensation Board of Georgia was established in the year 1920 and serves the community by being the referral for more than 3.8 million employees in the state of Georgia. This State Board receives its funding through assessment from self insured employers and also from insurance companies. A range of benefits such as medical payments, compensation of a part of lost wages and even for vocational rehabilitation services, could possibly be available to legally covered employee who sustains an injury while at work.

Before the act called ‘Workers Compensation’ was passed, an employee injured during work could not claim any benefits from his employer. A labour force comprising of children, men, and women usually had no recourse to any compensation for work connected injuries, even though they had to work under oppressive and harsh conditions.

The stand taken by the court was often that employees were aware of the risk when accepting the job, were careless, or hindered from recovering owing to carelessness by a colleague. It was also not the most satisfying of methods to try to obtain redress in court since that process was mostly long and costly. While this became an insurmountable obstacle for a worker in dire need of lost wages and medical expenses, a successful court procedure could also render a small company bankrupt.

Today’s workers’ compensation law limits the liability of the employer, and causes the employee to be eligible to claim particular benefits for injuries received during work, with no regard to fault or negligence. Using self insurance programs or going through private insurers, employers in Georgia cover themselves with worker’s compensation insurance. The rights of an employee injured during work are specific and legally prevent the employer from any claims of the employee outside of these laws.

Any employer with a work force of a minimum of three workers, whether they are full or part time, comes under this law. This includes non profit organisations and public corporations.

Federal government workers, domestic servants, farm labourers and farmers, and also railroad workers have a specific exemption from workers’ compensation law. These are a few categories of employees who do not come under this law.

The State Workers Compensation Board works in close conjunction with a fund termed Subsequent Injury Trust. In cases when a worker has had a prior injury which was subsequently further damaged by an injury while working, this Fund reimburses employers or insurers for a part of the compensation monies paid out.

Assessments from self insured employers and insurance companies completely fund the compensation program for workers.

Plan a Safe Vacation

Planning a vacation can be overwhelming. There are a lot of important things people forget to do. First, make a list of everything you need to do, purchase, who to call, etc. But, start making this list a couple months before you leave for your vacation.

First of all, start saving months and months before you plan on buying your tickets, and make sure you buy your tickets a month or two in advance at least! This will save you a lot of money, trust me. Do not dip into savings, and make sure your vacation money is just a lot of extra money you have saved up. Write down a list of everything you will need on your trip ie if you are going to a beach you might need water shoes, sunblock, snorkel gear, beach towels, sandals, bathing suit cover up, water proof Ipod case, water proof camera, etc.

If you are leaving your kids at home, make sure they have all of your information and emergency contact numbers. Make sure they know the alarm code, and a family member's number that is near by. Talk to them, and make sure they know exactly what to do in case of a emergency.

After you are done with your list and you have moved onto your packing stage, do not forget the small stuff. First of all do not forget your ID, maybe your passport, and money. Also, airports will not allow more than 3 oz of fluid onto the plane ie shampoo conditioner, cologne. And 3 oz of fluid going on the plane must be in a small zip lock bag. Do not forget to leave little key chain pocket knives at home, the airport will take them away from you. Remember after the first bag checked it does cost money. One more thing I have heard is if you are going to a foreign country bring a money belt. Keep cash on you for tips and quick snacks and drinks, gratuities, etc.

It would not be a bad idea if you let your family know where your will is, God forbid anything should happen, but it is better safe than sorry. Most importantly do not forget your plane tickets!
