5 Tips to Encourage Self-Motivation in Your Little One

Do you find your little one less enthusiastic about playing with her friends? Does she seem aloof to you about everything else? Do you find that she is deteriorating in her studies as well? If you nodded in affirmation, then there are high chances that your little one lacks self-motivation.

Self-motivation is the key that leaves a great impression on how your little one is pacing in her daily life. From performing well in the curriculum to building some good habits, a self-motivated child can do wonders with her life. Motivation comes naturally until the age of seven, but up till reaching this age group a kid is observing her surroundings and always learning something new. However, after the age of seven, she must be able to motivate herself.

Although self-motivation is an inside process and varies from kid to kid, as a parent, you can always motivate and push your child to nurture her ability to do better and better. Here’s how you can do that:

1. Stay Positive

Even if she is failing at something, always dwell on the efforts she is putting in rather than nagging about the things she is not good at. If there is a problem, try to be compassionate and come up with a solution. You will soon see this positive outlook and behavior being reflected in your little princess.

2. Appreciate Efforts

Rather than just saying ‘good job’ for everything, take some time to rethink how you want to appreciate all the good things that she is doing. For example, if she shares her toys with her friends, you can acknowledge her good behavior by complementing, “Your friend must have enjoyed and felt immensely good when you shared your toys with her”. This will motivate your charming daughter to always behave well and do good in other aspects of her life.

3. Tackle Failures

Tell your little bundle of joy that it is okay to lose sometimes. What is important is the attempt and what she learns from failing at it in the first go. This trait of gracefully accepting the defeat and moving on from setbacks will prove immensely beneficial later in her life.

4. Adopt Learning Style

When a certain subject is hard to learn for your kid, then you can encourage the learning through fostering her interests. Suppose if she likes baking, you can teach her the measuring concepts by teaching her how to measure the ingredients. This will teach her about size, volume, and density without even making it appear like a burdensome math lesson.

5. Build Self-Esteem

When she believes in herself, any difficult mountain can be moved with ease. Building a positive self-esteem will open the ways towards building self-esteem. Help your little one to build self-esteem and believe in herself, then there won’t be even a single thing that she would think of as unattainable. You can always try to look out what she enjoys doing the most and how she interprets the right from the wrong.

Final Word

Like any other parent in the world, you would also want your little one to be successful in school and later in her life as an adult. Set your little one on the path of success by inculcating self-motivation. Always encourage your pretty princess to go beyond the boundaries and achieve big. It is a vital skill that is needed for whatever she chooses to do in her life!

A Brief Introduction to the Programmable Logic Controller

The term programmable logic controller (PLC) refers to the industrial digital computers that are designed for controlling various manufacturing equipment such as industrial robots, escalators, power stations, and assembly lines. These sophisticated devices are used to control production processes where dependable controls, flexible programming, and ease of troubleshooting is of immense importance.

The significance of industrial computers increases in applications where precision with zero error is critical. Initially, it was the automotive industry that utilized computer-controlled systems in order to replace cam timers and hard-wired relays. Now, computer-driven tools have become a vital part of industrial process control and factory automation.

Unlike personal computers, PLC is capable of performing in harsh industrial environments where temperature, humidity, dust, mechanical shocks and other hazards are prevalent. Manufacturers need a variety of equipment in order to produce a product and make it work for the end users.

All the equipment or devices working on producing something in a facility needs to be organized in terms of time intervals. For instance, in the automobile industry, one device or a set of devices works on painting car exterior and the other machine works on engine parts. One of the functions of an industrial digital computer is to set the specific time frame for machines so that all the processes can be performed in a perfectly harmonious manner.

Industrial computers were introduced in the 1960s and before that, manufacturers relied on cam timers, relays and other similar kinds of devices to streamline their manufacturing processes. They control a wide range of applications from small production systems to large processing plants. Some of the advantages of PLC include:

  • Ease of maintenance and installation
  • Accuracy and dependability
  • Cost-effectiveness
  • Low power consumption
  • Higher flexibility and integration

Central Processing Unit (CPU), memory, and input & outputs are the three fundamental component of an industrial digital computer. Like in the personal computer, CPU plays the part of a brain in a computer as it performs all the communication, arithmetic, logical and memory related operations. The memory component in PLC operates almost the same way as that of personal computers.

As mentioned earlier, the ability to perform effectively for years in harsh industrial environments is what makes PLCs different from personal computers. A digital computer has to be flexible and configurable. The 21st Century process control expects functional flexibility, superior performance, and a smaller form factor from a control system.

The rapid development in the industrial automation technology has made it possible for manufacturers to produce high-quality products cost-effectively and at large scales. Powerful industrial computers, robots, sensors, intelligent and automated devices are the present and the future of modern industries. It would be hard for industries to stay competitive in future without embracing the modern industrial technologies.

Broadcasting Students and Studio Audio Equipment

A broadcasting journalist needs to know more than just how to string together a good sentence. As well as learning about economy of language and how to hit the right note when reporting on sensitive subjects, a broadcasting student needs technical skills.

Whether it is a television or radio broadcasting studio, it is crucial that background noise, white noise and any other tedious form of unwanted noise is eliminated from the recording.

Who makes sure of this?

A sound engineer is primarily the person in charge of acoustics and sound management, but a good broadcaster will know what they want to achieve from their programme. Leave everything up to the sound engineer and just see what happens. Afterall, it’s not a sound engineer’s job to know that it’s in bad taste to introduce a fog horn noise after the announcement of the death of a public figure. Sure, the sound engineer can use his common sense, but if the fog horn noise is made every day at the same time – and the sound engineer is hearing but not listening to your programme – what’s going to stop him honking that horn? Embarrassment it the only thing a mistake like that will lead to.

Broadcasting students should acquaint themselves with the software and hardware necessary for the production, reproduction and synchronization of sound. They should also know how to discern between digital, acoustic and electronic sound and the benefits of each.

Studios are laid out in specific designs to provide for the best possible use of sound. Arrangements such as where to put the microphone or where the PA system should go are down to knowledge, experience and, naturally, the right training.

Broadcasting students beware: there’s more to your job that a confident disposition and a crafty tongue. If you want to get ahead, familiarise yourselves with studio audio equipment, the basic principles of sound engineering and the latest in the software and hardware sound packages.

Book Review – You’ll See It When You Believe It by Dr. Wayne Dyer

The title of this book is a play on the commonly heard expression “I’ll believe it when I see it!” Dyer explains that most people live their lives this way, focusing on what is and attracting more of what is, reacting to life rather than taking responsibility for it, never really believing that miracles will come to them. According to Dyer people should first believe and focus on what they want to have in their lives and only then will it materialize.

Dyer says that if we believe first, we can have, do or be anything we want in life.

Many people are interested in attracting more abundance into their lives. To do this, Dyer says we must focus on abundance and not scarcity. “Whatever You Focus Your Thoughts On Expands” is one of the chapters in this book and Dyer tells readers how to tune into abundance by doing what you love to do. There are all kinds of ways to make money doing what you love and this love is what will draw abundance and happiness to you.

Dyer also offers tips on why readers might resist the idea of an abundant Universe and gives ideas on how to bring abundance into their lives. “You don’t have to be stuck where you are unless you decide to be,” Dyer says.

One way to bring abundance into your life is by flowing with the Universe. A blade of grass doesn’t need to be forced to grow, it just naturally grows the way it is supposed to. Water flows in the direction of least resistance. We, too, can get into this flow of the Universe, going with it rather than resisting, being detached from the outcome because we know all is as it is supposed to be in an abundant Universe.

One you get into the flow of the Universe and Believe-you begin to SEE synchronicity in your life- people, events, situations, ideas-they all come to you in the flow of the Universe to help you on your way because everything is ONE and connected.

The chapters on forgiveness are also very important because to have an abundant life, you must forgive yourself and others and move on. “The Universe is always working the way it is supposed to,” Dyer says. Others do what they know how to do, given the conditions of their lives. The rest of the anger, hatred and judgment we carry around with us is ours. “We own it all,” Dyer says.

He goes on to say that we can only give away what we have-if all we have is hatred and anger in our hearts, then that is what we will also give away to others and attract from others. If we have love and generosity in our hearts, then we will attract love and generosity from others.

Dyer’s book tells readers how to believe in miracles, expect miracles and SEE miracles manifest in their lives. This is a wonderful self-help book that will lead you on your own path to personal transformation, not just to an abundant life, but a peaceful, harmonious, happy life.

You’ll See It When You Believe It was published by William Morrow in 1989, First Quill Edition published 2001 ISBN 0-06093733-5

Edmonton Housing Starts in February Triple Versus a Year Ago

Housing starts in the Edmonton region more than tripled in February over the same month last year, indicating how troubled the real estate market had been during the economic recession. Despite the good news from this February, experts are now concerned that upcoming government restrictions could put the brakes on the housing rebound.

The Edmonton metro area witnessed 642 total home starts in February, in comparison to only 213 during the same period in 2009, per a March 8 statement from Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. The level of building came near the level of 692 housing starts that was set in February 2008. This past February represented the eighth month in as many in which housing starts exhibited versus-year-ago increases.

Foundations were poured for 484 single-family homes in February, versus 149 initiated in February 2009. Through February 28, a total of 1,219 housing starts have occurred, registering a significant upturn from the 626 starts that occurred during through February 2009. Last year at this time, builders had to contend with an oversupply of new-construction homes and a large inventory of existing dwellings.

Guy St. Germain, who is the Canadian Homebuilders’ Association’s Edmonton region president, said that his group is confident about the current market’s vitality. He noted that sales remain strong for single-family dwellings, and that the inventory of multi-family homes continues to decrease. He also said that there is a good balance among buyers and sellers in the resale real estate market, and that prices are increasing in all housing segments.

St. Germain also commented that builders are showing as much optimism as they did in the early months of 2007. He expressed hope that the expected hike in interest rates, as well as new mortgage requirements, will not weaken demand.

The Way Google’s Material Design Surpassed iOS Design

Google is a type of search engine that gives the facility of browsing from various devices such as the laptop, mobile etc. Recently, Google developed material design so that it can unify the experienced users to use various Google platforms. The aim of this unification is to improve the overall technological experience of a user by making the interaction easier, simpler and more intuitive. Most people believe that the recent material design plan of Google surpassed iOS design. In the present writing, I will share my thoughts about this issue.

iOS design and Google’s material design:

iOS is a mobile operating system manufactured by Apple Inc. It develops an adaptive layout so that your design can work from multiple devices. Two years ago, it has changed its design manual and has made it simple and user-friendly. It allows its designers to focus on animations and function rather than intricate visual details. Here UI or your user interface should be stripped down to the core aesthetic. The present iOS apps ensure perceptible feedback in response to every user’s action. As a result, UX or user experience design of iOS develops and improves the quality of interaction between a user and all facets of the company. It’s UX design helps to enhance customer’s satisfaction and loyalty by improving the usability, ease of use, and pleasure provided by the interaction between the customer and the product.

On the other hand, recent Google’s material design also helps its users’ in various ways. The design of Google aims how Google can improve your life by making their technology smarter. It is said that the material design of Google surpassed iOS design in the sense that it provides more facilities and simple user-friendly attitude. It is not just a new UI rather a whole Google UX. The great features of this new design are-

• Great interaction with various technologies:

One of the main features of any material design is how it interacts with various technologies. The present material design of Google has a very seamless flow between interactions. For example: you are writing a very important article on your laptop but do not finish it and left it open. Don’t worry, you can continue this writing from your watches, mobile, tablet or other technological devices because of Google’s new material design.

• A seamless information flow between devices and smarter technology:

Another advantage of Google’s material design is its quick and seamless information flow between devices and technologies. As a user, you do not need to worry that your messages or files are synced to a device, or you do not need to be bombarded with work emails while you’re at home – and vice versa, pictures and text messages sent to you from last night won’t be popping up while you’re at work.

In short, Google’s material design aims to unite Google’s expansive product line under a rich set of design styles and principles. It exceeds the design of iOS in various levels. It helps its users to use technology in a very comfortable and homely way.

Handcrafted From Bali: 4 Types of Wood Commonly Used in Indonesian Furniture and Wood Art

When an artist decides to create a new piece, one of the first decisions he makes is what material he will use? We see intricate designs and patterns weaved and chipped into wood and stone. Bali, being the main source for wood carvings, does a lot of chipping. They chip away at a wood block tirelessly to create the beautiful creations we have today. One of the first items they have to get is the materials. More often than not, they use materials that are cheap in cost. Usually, trees as they are abundant on the Island. Which trees are they reaching for? Which trees are they using to create their art? Let’s take a brief look at 4 major trees that are frequently used in Balinese wood carvings an, see some of their unique properties, and the benefits of carving with these different types of trees.

The first tree has the most commonly used wood for carvings in Bali. It is known by the locals as the ‘Albesia’ or ‘Belalu.’ (Albizia Falcata) It is a white, soft wood. There are numerous reasons why it is used so frequently. It is native to Indonesia. As such, it grows considerably well to a staggering 130 feet tall. Now that isn’t anything too special. Some redwoods have been found that are 380 feet tall, but when you consider how fast the Albesia grows, it becomes quite evident why it is the favored species in plantations in Indonesia. It can grow 30 feet high in just 2 years. That is astronomical! It holds the official title as “the fastest growing tree in the world.” Because it is such a fast grower, Indonesian farmers have been able to make a living off of this tree alone, planting them anywhere they can. The core wood is used to make furniture, doors, and plywood. It is also termite- resistant. At Golden Sun, we did a test with one of our pieces and left it near a termite bed for a week, and surprisingly it was not damaged by the termites. For these reasons, majority of our carvings are made of the almighty Albesia wood.

The next tree is known as the “Crocodile” or Satin Wood. (Zanthoxylum Rhetsa) You can see why it is called crocodile wood. Some villagers have been spooked before by crocodile wood floating downstream, as it looks like the back of a crocodile. Kind of funny! =) It is a white, relatively hard wood. Carving with this wood gives a very smooth finish. So smooth that it looks like ivory.

Moving right along, we have the “Suar” or Rain Tree. (Albizia Saman) This tree has a brown, hard wood. It a wide- canopied tree with a large symmetrical spread. It is known as the rain tree because its leaves fold in the rain and when the sun sets. It reaches a height of 82 feet and nearly 120 feet in diameter. The wood is quite heavy, making it an ideal choice for house supports. Bali wood carvings that use this wood are dark in color and have substantial weight to them. It is a favored wood of importers outside the tropics because its crisscrossed interlocking grain prevents the wood from cracking when put in drier climates. If you live in the desert or Texas, you should choose this wood.

Lastly, we have the “Waru” or Grey Hibiscus. (Hibiscus Tiliaceus) The wood is white blended with light grey. This wood often makes distinctive two- tone carvings. As it ages the grey turns green giving it an earthy look. These trees are very short, getting to a paltry 32 feet in height. The outside bark of this tree has tough fibers used to make rope. It has the unique property of being stronger when wet. That is why it is commonly used to caulk ships. It is the go-to high quality furniture wood. If you want have your piece outside, I’d recommend getting “waru” wood. That way you don’t have to worry about moisture in the air.

Everything You Want To Know About Problematic Swollen Doors

Doors made of wood tend to function inaptly during every season. You can expect them to shrink during winters, expand during summers and absorb moisture to swell during monsoons or if you live in a humid area. Out of these situations, the swollen doors are most difficult to deal with. These become sticky, won’t close easily and are even harder to open up. If you face the problem already or are about to install a new wooden door, here is a useful discussion you need to go through.

Taking Precaution

Whenever you install a new door, make sure that it is treated with a quality exterior sealant. It is necessary that a minimum of 3 sealant layers are coated. Pay attention to the base as well as the edges of the door as they too require coatings and not just the door’s front and back. Experts also advise that the procedure is followed once in every 12-18 months.

Regular inspection may also help you avoid the swelling of doors. For example, you must ensure that the door has not attained cracks from where it may become prone to moisture. If that happens, use a primer or paint to fill the cracks. The paint may also wear along the edges causing lumps that may also lead to stickiness. Check and peel them off.

Moisture Is Not the Only Reason

While it is the moisture most of the time, there may be other reasons contributing towards the issue. First, the hinges and screws may get loose due to repeated opening and closing. Check for the same and fix them. You may also need to replace the screws to fit in the oversized holes. Next, the door or the door frame may get misaligned over time. You will need to call an expert to fix the problem.

Few Simple Steps to Take

You may try to resolve the issue with the help of a hairdryer or a heat gun. However, make sure that you maintain the right distance or you may end up burning the wood. You may also add shims to the door hinges as these make the door to tilt slightly and fit into the frame perfectly. In few cases, applying lubricant to the sticky area is also helpful. If you don’t have one in hand, you may also try to rub wax or soap.

What to Do if Nothing Works?

Sandpaper is an extremely useful remedy for swollen and sticky doors. Sand the area along the edges and beneath the door as it usually solves the trouble. You may also need to remove the door to accomplish this task. Calling an expert is what you need to do for this. If the problem is incurable, the expert may suggest replacing the door.

It is better to pay attention as soon as you notice the problem in case you wish to avoid spending more on repair.

Shocking But True! "Goat Scrotum Ale" Is the World’s Most Popular Home Brewed Beer

If your favorite beer comes from a beer store, you may never have experienced the overwhelming pleasure of savoring your own homemade beer.

Sure, the commercial stuff is OK. But if you want the soul-stirring satisfaction of sipping a delicious beer that you’ve made yourself, you’ll want to try the world’s most popular home beer recipe, Goat Scrotum Ale.

Goat Scrotum sounds utterly gross, doesn’t it? The truth is that it’s a beer that everyone enjoys. One of the reasons it’s so popular is that it can be brewed in a variety of ways and in many custom flavors. If you like chocolate, you can make it taste like bitter-sweet chocolate. You may prefer a fruity-gingery ale, a palate-popping spicy blend or a smooth, fragrant brew. There are hundreds of possible combinations and creating your own personal varieties is a fascinating hobby.

Goat Scrotum Ale became wildly popular back in the early 1800s when it was known as “Tumultuous Porter”. The deeply satisfying ale continued to be a great favorite of beer drinkers until prohibition came along and the brew and its recipe disappeared. Lucky for us, the recipe was brought back to an appreciative world of home brewers by a researcher named Charles Papazian.

Making Goat Scrotum Ale the Papazian way was pretty exciting, to say the least! Here are the Papzian ingredients:

5 lbs dark malt extract

1 lb crystal malt

1/4 lb each black patent malt and crushed roasted barley

3 1/2 oz Hallertauer leaf hops

1 cup each brown sugar and blackstrap molasses

1 lb corn syrup

2 tspns gypsum

1 tspn Irish Moss

1 pkg ale yeast

3/4 cup corn sugar to prime the bottle with

To customize your ale and create your very own specialty brew you may use these optional ingredients in whatever combination you wish:

2 to 4 oz freshly grated ginger root

Up to 2 inches brewing licorice

2 tbspns spruce tree essence

1 to 10 dried chili pepper

1/4 cup slightly crushed juniper berries

6 oz unsweetened Bakers chocolate or cocoa powder

Following are Mr. Papzian’s directions:

Steep the crystal malt in the brewing water for one hour at 150F. Remove leftover crystal malt and mix in dark malt extract, brown sugar, blackstrap molasses and a pound of the corn sugar.

Bring to a soft boil until all the ingredients are dissolved completely. Add in a quarter ounce of hops and the optional ingredients you choose to use. Boil fifteen minutes. Then, add a half ounce hops and boil another fifteen minutes.

Toss in the black patent malt and crushed roasted barley. Boil for another

fifteen minutes. Add another quarter ounce hops and the gypsum and Irish Moss. Boil for thirteen minutes. Now stir in the remaining ounce and a half of hops, boiling for two more minutes.

Allow the wort to cool to room temperature. Strain carefully while transferring the liquid into the fermenter. When the wort’s temperature falls below 80F, stir in the yeast.

And finally, when the wort has completely finished fermenting, add the three-quarters cups of corn sugar.

You’re now ready to put your delicious creation into bottles and look forward to that first tantalizing sip.

Bulges, Popcorn Ceiling Removal And Shadow Lines: Tips And Solutions

Common ceiling treatments include popcorn ceiling removal, treatment for joint shadow lines, treatment for dark areas and others. Some of these treatments can be addressed with DIY efforts. Learning the difference between various treatments allows homeowners to get a better view of what is required of them.

Joint Shadow Lines

Drywall ceilings can develop lines on their surfaces. This problem occurs because of a lack of insulation on the top of joists. The joist tops are exposed to low winter temperatures. The wooden joists are not effective insulators and there is a temperature difference between adjacent parts of the ceiling. The difference helps to create the appearance of lines. Condensation occurs because of the lower temperature: dirt and mold become trapped in these wet spots and shadow lines are produced.

Solutions exist even for problems which seem as insurmountable as this one. Homeowners can address this problem. A special paint can be applied to the ceiling and followed up with repairing the insulation on the joists. This insulation should fill spaces between joists in addition to covering those wooden tops which were previously left uncovered.

This treatment, while intricate, can seem less daunting than the task of popcorn ceiling removal (cottage cheese or acoustic ceiling removal), which can include testing the surface through the help of a laboratory and then contacting an asbestos abatement company in case the samples prove dangerous.

Bulge in Plaster Ceiling

Older homes with plaster ceilings may contain bulges which concern homeowners. In older homes, plaster was applied over metal, wood or gypsum lath in order to coat walls and ceilings. Vibrations and water damage to the roof may interact with the substances applied in the plaster placement process. Layers of plaster coating can cause the plaster to break away from structures within the surface and a bulge is produced. A lack of heating can cause even the finish coat to create sags in the wall.

Two methods for repair are available. The DIY method, applying plaster washers, may appeal to homeowners wanting to fore-go the cost of the alternative: contacting a plaster contractor. Valuable resources point to an important difference between a plaster contractor and a drywall contractor, indicating that choosing the inappropriate repair business is a common mistake.

Obviously, the DIY method could entail steps which surpass those involves in popcorn ceiling removal. Yet, if a contractor is involved, popcorn ceiling removal could still equate to more errand work for the homeowner than this treatment would create.

The Evolution of BMW Angel Eyes

The angel eyes (or corona rings as BMW calls them) are a very distinguishable feature on the 21st century BMWs. Angel eyes are simply a fiber optic that encircles the headlight projector or reflector housing that is powered by a light at the beginning of the system. This revolutionary type of light styling was unheard of at the time and completely changed the game for the better. While these lights were originally used as running lights at night with the headlights, these became the standard daytime running lights on the newer BMW models. Not only do these corona rings serve a functional purpose, they are also visually appealing and give BMW vehicles their unmistakable appearance.

Angel eyes were first introduced on the BMW 5-series platform starting with the E39 in 2001. The first variants were not that bright when compared to the standards of today, but when they were first introduced, it was an amazing feat. The original lights were powered by an incandescent halogen bulb. Because of the E39’s success, BMW began to include their angel eyes on all their newer BMW models; this includes the E82/E87 1-Series, E90/E91/E92/E93 3-Series, E60/F10 5-Series, E63/E64/F12/F13 6-Series, E38/E65/E66/E67/E68/F01/F02 7-Series, and much more. The original function of the angel eyes were used as parking running lights or city lights so they were only on when the headlights were on at night. However, beginning after the LCI face lift of many of the BMW models, the rings were standard daytime running lights as well.

The original method of light production was using an incandescent filament halogen bulb, but on the newest BMW 3-series models, the corona rings are lit up using LED lights instead. Light emitting diodes (LEDs) are noticeably brighter than their incandescent counterparts. They are also much more reliable and can potentially outlast the car in terms of operating usage. Brighter lights equates to increased safety because it allows other drivers on the road to see you more easily during less than pleasant weather and lighting conditions. LED angel eyes are also better at producing fewer emissions thanks to its low power consumption so it makes a greener technology as well as being bright. As lighting technology advances, BMW may even begin to use laser technology to light up the rings for brighter, but for now these are the current and latest trend in automotive lighting.

It has only been 12 years since the introduction of the BMW corona rings, but advancements have been made within that time span and it still continues today. Technology in general has been growing at an exponential rate and has no signs of slowing down in the future so only time will tell what the newest lighting technology will be. BMW definitely found their trademark look in these corona rings and it has definitely stuck with them because when you imagine a BMW driving towards you, all you see are those infamous light rings.
