One of the more popular items that some people claim work, and maybe even more people claim do not work, would be snake repelling powders. These things can come in all natural type ingredients, so peppers, cinnamon, and things of that nature that have been ground up to create a powder, or some contain slightly dangerous chemicals like lime or sulfur. For that reason I would never recommend powders, just because you might not always know what is in them, and they might not even work.

In theory this might make sense because snakes to have some very sensitive sensory organs that they use for movement and feeding. Disturbing those organs might be a great way to get rid of snakes. My Only question would be, how do you prove a device like this works, and is there any proof at all it actually does?

Call me old fashioned, but the way I always tell people to get rid of snakes is by changing the environment on your property. You can do this in a few easy steps, first make sure your grass is mowed, and it does not get very long. Second, make sure that all areas that have big weeds, including ditches, are trimmed and stay trimmed. And third, you need to remove all hiding spots that snakes love, such as garbage piles, burn piles, compost piles, tires, trash, firewood, and even certain bushes and shrubs. Once you remove them you do two things, you remove snakes shelter, and you start to eliminate their food source.

Snakes are going to feed on bugs, mice, and other rodents. By getting rid of the shelter for those things, as well as eliminating mice and bugs from your yard, you are taking away the food source snakes depend on. Removing the shelter and food source is the best way to get rid of an animal.

I do want to make sure that people know to make sure you have the snakes identified before you attempt to move them. You do not want to put yourself in danger by handling possibly dangerous snakes. Make sure you call a professional if you have any doubts, and make sure you stay safe.

Tips For Building a Vinyl Picket Fence

Getting a vinyl picket fence is a great alternative to wood fencing. They can be trickier to deal with than a standard fence, but with some basic tips you can install your fencing like a pro. Many people go with vinyl fencing because, it is easy to maintain and will never need painting. There are many style options in vinyl fencing as well.

For proper fence installation, the first step is to determine where the fence is going to go and mark out the fence line. Starting at the first corner, drive a stake into the ground and use a string to lay out the line of where the fence will go. Anchor the string to a second stake, where the other corner will be.

Once you have your fence line determined, you will need to start making the post holes. There are two ways to do this. Using a post hold digger works really well, but is hard manual labor, especially if you have compact ground, or clay. You can also use a power auger to dig your post holes, which makes the work a little easier. Make sure that your hole is deep enough so that you can add some gravel for drainage at the bottom.

You will then need to fill the hole with concrete, to just below ground level. If your posts are hollow, you can put them into the concrete after pouring it; if they are not hollow, you will need to pour the concrete after. Make sure to use a level and measure to get your post in evenly and at the correct height. Continue along the line of fencing for each spot you have designated will need a post. Once all the posts are in place and the concrete is dry you can start putting in the rest of the fencing. This is easily done with measuring and screwing.

About Chubby Frogs:

The Chubby Frog got its nickname because of its plump, round body. It is also called the Asian Painted Frog because of its origin and the fact that it has two stripes on its back that are outlined in black or dark brown, giving it a “painted” appearance. The frog’s scientific name is Kaloula pulchra. All the Kaloula pulchra frogs in the pet trade are wild-caught from their various natural habitats which include leafy forests, rice fields, and even small towns. During the daytime hours, these frogs stay hidden underneath leaves and debris. They emerge for feeding in the evening.

Choosing a Frog:

Make sure you pick a healthy Chubby Frog at the pet store. For one, make sure the frog is actually chubby! Its body should be full and round. If the frog is underweight, you’ll see bones sticking out. Examine the eyes for clarity, and the skin for open wounds or abrasions. If you go to the pet shop during the day, the frog should be hiding. If you find it out in the open, that could be a sign of illness. Of course, it could also mean that somebody else was recently examining it. Be sure to ask the pet store owner if someone was recently handling the frog. Unless the frog is disturbed or ill, it will remain hidden during the day.

Chubby Frog Housing:

A 10- to 15-gallon enclosure will give your frog the amount of room that it needs. If you’d like to house 2 frogs, a 20-gallon tank is recommended. Be sure to use a terrarium with a tight, screen lid secure enough to prevent escapes. These frogs are great climbers!

The bottom of the enclosure needs to be layered with substrate, at least 2″ deep for burrowing. Steer clear of gravel, wood chips, sand, and vermiculite or perlite. The best substrates for your Chubby include peat moss / potting soil mixes, eco earth, organic mulch, and coconut fiber.

Furnish the terrarium with potted plants, driftwood, and other items that the frog can use for hiding or climbing. To prevent the frog from uprooting plants while burrowing, you may wish to keep live plants planted in pots rather than directly in the substrate.

Your frog will prefer the temperature to be between 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Use a heat lamp or under-tank heater to maintain the temperature. Aim for about 80 degrees F. during the day, and no cooler than 70 degrees F. at night.

A few times per week, mist the inside of the tank with water. Humidity is important for your frog. The water MUST be 100% chlorine-FREE!

NOTE: Day / Night Difference – Your frog needs to be able to tell day from night. For this reason, an under-tank heater may be better than a heat lamp. That way, you can maintain the temperature at night without having the bright light on in the frog’s face. Also, you should keep the frog’s terrarium in a location where it can naturally experience light during the day and dark at night. Try to keep it in a room that will not have lights turned on often at night.

Sumio Lijima, a Japanese scientist discovered the fullerene related carbon nanaotube by using the simple arc evaporation apparatus in 1991. The tubes were made up of two layers with a diameter ranging from 3-30 nm and closed at both the ends. In 1993 single layered carbon nanotubes were discovered with a diameter of 1-2 nm and can be curved but they failed to create much interest among the researchers as they were structurally imperfect so the researchers are now working to improve the catalytic properties of these nanotubes.

Single walled nanotubes (SWNTs)

Most single walled nanotubes share a diameter close to 1nm with a length million times longer and the structure can be imagined by wrapping one atom thick layer of graphite called graphene into a seamless cylinder. Properties

1. Strength

Carbon nanotubes have the strongest tensile strength and elastic modulus among all the materials yet discovered. The tensile strength is due to the presence of sp2 hybridization among the individual carbon atoms. The tensile strength of multi-walled tube was reported to be 63 gigapascals (GPa) in 2000. Further studies carried out in 2008 have found that the shell of these tubes is of 100 gigapascals strength which is in good agreement with the quantum models. Since these tubes have a low density their strength is high. If excessive tensile strain is given of these tubes they undergo plastic deformation which means that they are permanently altered. Although the strength of individual tubes is very high but weak shear interactions between the adjacent shells and tubes result in weakening of the strength of the multi-walled tubes. They are also not strong when compressed. Due to their hollow structure and high aspect ratio they show buckling when kept under torsional or bending stress.

2. Hardness

Standard single-walled nanotubes can tolerate a pressure of about 24GPa without being deformed and can undergo transformation to superhard phase nanotubes. Maximum pressure tolerated under current experimental techniques is 55 GPa. But these superhard nanotubes can collapse at pressures higher than 55 GPa. The bulk modulus of these nanotubes is 462-546 GPa much higher than that of diamond.

Their potential strength helps them to be used as a filling material for increasing the tensile strength of other nanotubes. Their mechanical property helps them to be used in making clothes, sports jackets and space elevators. They are also used in making electrical circuits, cables ad wires.

Dock a Boat Like a Pro – How to Use Your Boat’s "Pivot Point"

If you want to learn to sail like a pro, you will need to be able to maneuver with skill under power too. Dock a boat like a pro when you know your boat’s pivot point.

For example, have you ever dropped something over the side, like a fender, and had to turn your boat around to try and recover it?

Or needed to make a sharp turn into a slip? These maneuvers can be tough unless you know the location of your sailboat’s pivot point.

Once you know this magic spot, you will be able to:

* dock your boat in a slip

* turn your boat 180 degrees around in a channel

* pick up an object you dropped overboard

* recover a person in the water

* avoid collision with an object or another boat

Every boat or ship, no matter how small or large, has a magic point along each side of the hull called a “pivot point”. Your vessel will rotate around this spot if you put your wheel or tiller hard over and hold it in place. Get underway on a quiet, calm day in an open area. Practice the easy steps below:

Step 1 – Find Your Boat’s Pivot Point

1. Throw a life ring or life jacket (also called a personal flotation device, or pft) into the water. Bring the object abreast of a point about one-third of the way back from your bow.

2. Put the wheel hard over toward (or hold the tiller hard away from) the object and hold it in place.

3. Shift into idle forward gear and try to make a circle around the object without hitting it. You want to keep it lined up with your pivot point throughout the circle. Make slight adjustments as necessary to find the magic spot.

Step 2 – Practice Backing and Filling

Master boat handlers in single propeller (called “single screw”) boats use a maneuver called backing and filling to turn in a tight spot. Use the same life ring or pfd as before to practice backing and filling.

1. Line up the boat pivot point close to the object in the water. Keep the boat stopped in this position.

2. Turn the wheel hard over TOWARD the object. Or, push the tiller hard AWAY from the object.

3. Shift into forward gear and give the boat a burst of throttle for one second. Shift back into neutral.

4. Shift into astern gear; give the boat a burst of throttle just long enough to stop forward momentum and keep the object inside your pivot point.

5. Repeat this sequence (steps 3 and 4). Keep your rudder hard over throughout the maneuver. Easy on the throttle! Keep the engine in gear for just one second to practice. Think of this as 1-1-1-1. One second ahead, one second in neutral, one second astern, one second in neutral.

Note that the critical action throughout “backing and filling” was to keep your wheel or tiller hard over (turned all the way to one side). Keep this in mind at all times. Avoid the temptation to ease off on the wheel or tiller when you need to make a tight pivot and stay in the same spot.

How to Use Your Pivot Point

If docking in a slip or alongside a pier, you will need to use your pivot point at all times. Remember that this will be critical no matter what wind or current are doing. For example, if you need to make a 90 degree turn into a slip, you could pivot around one of the outer pilings. Make the pivot along with backing and filling (described above).

On the other hand, if a person falls overboard, or you drop an object over the side, you want to keep them clear of your pivot point. As the exercise showed, you will rotate around an object, but will not be able to get close enough to recover it.

In these cases, make your approach with the object just off of the bow. This will enable you to slide alongside and make the recovery with ease.

If you have a full blown chronic or acute sinus infection you probably are experiencing many sinus infection symptoms. Some of the symptoms that people report are a feeling of dizziness, dizzy spells, lightheadedness or they feel fuzzy headed.

Generally with a sinus infection you won’t have true dizziness. Dizziness is called vertigo and takes place in the inner ear. If sinus drainage reaches your ear it would be in the middle ear not the inner ear where your balance could be affected. The inner ear is completely sealed off. Two or three conditions can be responsible for dizziness caused by the inner ear.

Benign positional vertigo is vertigo that occurs when you change the position of your head too fast. It is harmless but some people are plagued with it often. Labyrinthitis usually follows a cold or the flu and is caused by a viral infection in the inner ear. Meniere’s disease is another inner ear problem. It causes vertigo, loss of balance, and ringing in the ears and can deeply affect people’s lives.

With true vertigo, which is a feeling that you or the room is spinning or moving, you may be light-headed, or feel faint, be unsteady or have a loss of balance. This usually does not happen with a sinus infection. Most causes of dizziness are not serious and either gets better on their own or is easily treated.

Often people who have a sinus infection report they feel dizzy when actually they feel fuzzyheaded or a little light headed. This could be due to pressure in the eustachian tubes or from other causes such as getting up too fast from a sitting or lying position causing a change in the blood pressure, called orthostatic hypotension.

Or one could be dehydrated, especially if you have an elevated temperature (fever). Another cause of dizziness may be from any medications you’re taking. So make sure to check and see if dizziness is a side effect of your medications or any sinus medications, which I don’t recommend.

Of course with congestion in the head or nasal passages one can feel pretty miserable and not be drinking enough water and not getting enough sinus drainage. Breaking up the dried up mucous in your sinus cavities may help get the sinus drainage going and get relief from the congested feeling which may be causing the lightheaded or fuzzy headed feeling.

With proper natural treatment one can quickly turn their sinus infection symptoms around and get better fast. It’s normal to think your dizziness is something serious but it’s not likely you’re truly dizzy especially from a sinus problem. If you have any of the other conditions you probably would have had some warning before the infection. Most likely you just have some temporary sinus symptoms that will soon go away, especially as you get better from the sinus infection.

When are we acting with true compassion and when are we believing we are being compassionate but actually just tolerating or going along with bad behavior because we want to be a nice person, a good friend or a good partner? If you believe being compassionate means accepting people where they are while condoning, accepting, enabling or excusing their bad behavior, that is not compassion at all but instead an affront to your soul.

Chela Davison calls this kind of compassion “Idiot Compassion.” She states “Idiot Compassion says, “Let it be. We are all the same. This behavior comes from ignorance. Love anyway.” Idiot Compassion paralyses. Allows for. Hides on the sidelines and nods. Idiot Compassion is ignorance dressed in love’s clothing.” In other words when we exercise “idiot compassion” we think we are giving something good to another by feeling sorry for them and their circumstances, but what we really are doing is aligning with their poor choices and attitudes when we know better, and in doing so we sacrifice our own good sense and integrity. Our souls suffer.

What then does true compassion look like? Davison writes: Compassion says “Let it move. Be aware. This behavior comes from ignorance. Make a choice of right action. Love while doing it.” Compassion is active. Elevates. Demands. Enlightens… Compassion feels into and moves through.” In other words, when you recognize someone is behaving badly, true compassion recognized the ignorance, the fear, the intolerance towards others that drives it, really the lack of self-awareness or self-esteem and calls the person into something higher, either directly or by example. True compassion says I see you, in your state, and because I feel the incongruence of it with what my soul knows to be right, I do not condone, I do not say and do nothing, I do not make excuses, I do not feel sorry for you and go along with your story. Instead I chose right action. Right action builds the souls voice inside you and uplifts your sense of integrity.

Idiot compassion says we are all the same. We are NOT all the same. We are not all at the same station in our journey towards maturity and enlightenment. To align and condone and participate directly or indirectly with bad behavior cheats you of knowing and experiencing yourself in your highest potential. It robs you of your joy and sucks precious energy, therefore life, from you. You cannot know truth and the beauty of who you are while you are in the ditch with someone who feeds off your misplaced goodwill. It is okay to recognize we are not the same. You do not owe your life, very literally I mean your minutes, hours, days or energy to people who drag you down rather than lift you up. If you feel drained, worried, confused or scared even, in the presence of another or somehow threatened in some way by not going along with their sad story, you are not extending compassion at all. You are enabling them to continue, to stay stuck, remain ignorant and you are denying yourself the opportunity to be in a state of joy.

You know from experience in your own life what bad behavior looks like but just in case here are some examples: friends who only talk about themselves counting on you to listen to their latest crisis but don’t have time for you when you need an ear, lying spouses, complainers that do nothing to change, unsolicited opinion givers, judgmental people, slacker co-workers and so on. The question becomes what does ‘right behavior’ look like? What steps can we take to be truly compassionate?

Here are some tips:

1. Recognize that you are practicing “idiot compassion” with people in your life. Notice when you are going along with bad behavior or some idea or some story either by saying nothing, condoning or making excuses for this person. You may have to do an inventory of your own bad behavior and, clean up your act at the same time you clean up your environment.

2. Get clear about your integrity, who and how you want to be in the world, what are your boundaries, limits and expectations around how you behave and what you will accept in relationships. Remember: true compassion is active, it elevates, demands (more from yourself and others) and enlightens.

3. Ask yourself, what am I worried will happen if I take a stand against this? Do I fear confrontation, anger, losing the relationship, appearing difficult or stuck up?

4. Ask yourself, what do I have to gain from removing myself from this toxic behavior? Free time, more energy, less worry, confidence about who you are, less drama, less toxicity, greater integrity?

5. Stop going along. Stop listening, accepting excuses or less than the truth. Acknowledge to yourself when a relationship no longer fits with your integrity. You might simply decide to stop spending time with someone or a group of people (gossips, complainers etc). In some cases you might have to ask someone to leave – give them an out – or ask them to get out, it will depend on the relationship. Your soul will thank you and one of two things will happen: the person you are dealing with will step up and grow as a result of what they witness or they will move on to someone willing to stay stuck with them. Notices

Severance

If any provision of this Agreement is held invalid, illegal or unenforceable for any reason by any court of competent jurisdiction, such provision shall be severed and the remainder of the provisions hereof shall continue in full force and effect as if this Agreement had been agreed with the invalid illegal or unenforceable provision eliminated.

If a clause in a contract is found to be invalid, illegal or otherwise unenforceable, this clause allows the parties to remove that clause and continue performing under the contract.

The Deaeration Principle

Today a deaerator is an essential part of a steam system. Corrosion in boiler cycles is caused mainly by the presence of non-condensable gasses such as oxygen and carbon dioxide, or by a low pH value. While the pH is raised by the addition of chemicals, it is more economical to remove non-condensable gasses mechanically. This mechanical process is known as Deaeration and its employment increases the life of a steam system dramatically.

Using Henry’s law of partial pressures, the principle behind Deaeration can be explained as follows: The quantity of a gas dissolved in a given quantity of liquid is directly proportional to its partial pressure surrounding the liquid. Therefore, by reducing the partial pressure of the unwanted gasses in the surrounding atmosphere, the gasses are diminished. These partial pressures are reduced by spraying the liquid into a countercurrent flow of steam. The steam, which is free of non-condensable gasses, is the liquid’s new atmosphere and Henry’s law prevails. Using steam is advantageous in that the solubility of a gas in a liquid decreases with an increase in the temperature of that liquid. The liquid is sprayed in thin films in order to increase the surface area of the liquid in contact with the steam, which, in turn, provides more rapid oxygen removal and lower gas concentrations.

With these principles in mind, Deaerator employs a two-stage system of heating and deaerating feedwater.
