How to Start Your Own Business Building Small Quality Dog Houses

You can start your own business, building dog houses for yourself, and others to sell for you. If you can build, quality dog houses, that will stand up to any weather, and can also offer upscale models of quality dog houses, you could have a nice part time, or full time business for yourself. Some people like a simple “A” frame style dog house, with no frills, just something simple, Fido can sleep, and live in.

Other people want the very best for their dogs, they are like family to them and they treat them that way! If you can build some houses that are sound, and quality built, and have some extra amenities with them, to make them stand out from your average house, like windows, or a front or back porch, a balcony, an upstairs, downstairs model, you could make really good money and have building them at the same time!

You could have several styles of your dog houses. You could take pictures of them, and make up a nice flier that you can take to pet supply stores, feed supply stores, dog motels, dog groomers, and more. Offer to put some of your houses in their stores on consignment. You can give the store owner a percentage of each dog house they sell or take an order for you. If you could design your own doghouses, that you could fit in a box, and give simple directions on how to put them together, you could sell your dog houses through the mail, to companies and internet sales.

Lots of people are used to putting furniture together themselves these days. Lots of stuff comes in boxes from overseas, and you pretty much have to put it all together most of the time. You can your own houses that fit in a box, and easier to handle and ship out. You could also sell them online on the major auction sites, as that is an easy outlet to start a business quickly, if you have a good product. Also, ask other pet shop type websites, to list your houses on their website, and you will drop ship each one, and give them a commission for each dog house sold through them.

You should put signs on your vehicle saying you build “custom dog houses” and then, if you can print a picture out of a completed dog house, in color, and laminated it, you can make up some magnetic signs of some of your models, with the prices underneath each house. You would get lots of customers that way also.

Improve Restaurant Customer Service – Proper Floor Diagrams and Table Numbering

It is essential to post proper floor diagrams with position points in strategic areas of a restaurant in order to provide excellent dining room service. You cannot rely on the fact that the floor diagrams are in the computer system either.

Case in point #1: What happens when a new waiter, carrying 3 hot pasta plates, walks from the kitchen into a busy dining room alone and cannot distinguish which is the correct table where the food must arrive? Does the waiter put the 3 hot pasta plates down somewhere and then log into the computer to see which is the correct table? I don’t think so. The waiter is going to guess possibly resulting in a costly mistake of the food going to wrong table. If the floor diagram was posted properly in an inconspicuous location for the waiter to take a quick glance at, then the food arrives at the table quickly and smoothly.

Case in point #2: I recently had a situation at a restaurant where the owner was changing the dining room table numbers during the actual shift–spelling disaster. His explanation was that he needed to keep track of coupons being distributed for the restaurant’s marketing campaign which used a separate numbered table for each individual coupon.

The owner did not realize there was no way to provide superb restaurant customer service by using this system. It was no wonder that the delicious and delicately prepared food was quite often being brought to the wrong table by the dining room service staff. How many times does this happen in one night, one week, one month? Why not take a handful of money and just throw it out the front door?

Below, I have outlined a few simple, but important concepts to help improve restaurant customer service. There are too many operations that do not implement these concepts which cause many unnecessary mistakes. This translates into lost revenue and a poor service reputation that will repel repeat business.

Here is how it works:

Dining room floor diagrams, with correct numbering for each table and position point (explained below), must be clearly printed and handed out to all dining room service staff, with extra printed copies available for any future waiter that is hired. These essential diagrams must be placed in strategic locations for all staff to easily view, preferably out of the customer’s sight.

It is essential that position points are established if there is any attempt to improve restaurant customer service. Basically, any diner in the restaurant can be identified by a particular table number and seat number. Keeping up with position points will not be a problem for a waiter as long as all dining room service staff knows the arrangement ahead of time. It is most important to establish position point #1 for each table. The easiest way of determining the position point #1 is to have the customer’s back directly in line (or as close as possible) with a particular location in the restaurant, such as the kitchen, front/back door or perhaps a particularly visible item of decor.

Every customer whose back is closest to this particular location is position #1. Once that is established, rotate clockwise around the table, identifying each customer as position #2, 3, and so on. If a seat is empty, a position number should be assigned to it anyway, as a guest may be arriving late. If customer position points are not used, a waiter, holding hot and heavy plates, will be calling out dishes to customers because they do not know the exact position placements. This wastes precious time and energy, not to mention how unprofessional it looks. Moreover, the customers, often in mid conversation or laughter will be unnecessarily interrupted.

Position points must be clearly explained in every waiter training program. The main objective is for the waiter to serve the food and beverage accurately, safely and cleanly. This is more likely to happen when there is prior knowledge of the table and seat numbers far ahead of time.

The above concepts give the dining room service staff “a sense of where they are,” which is extremely important especially if the restaurant is new or the staff is new to the restaurant. It enhances the ability to communicate, which in turn, will improve restaurant customer service all around for everyone.

Russell Brunson: The New Phenom

Russell Brunson. All I can say is "Wow!"

I generally do reviews on businesses and products, but, this man describes a review of his own. As a person. Why? Because he is not the run-of-the-mill guru out there making claims and promises that the average guy can not accomplish. This guy is like you and me. The guy next door. The friend you love hanging out with. He's all rolled into one. But, the biggest impression he made on me is, he really, really cares about my success. About your success. First, let's go back a bit in case you know nothing about him.

Russell was interested in marketing and sales early in life. Twelve years old to be exact. He loved collecting junk mail and sent in for every business opportunity he saw, mainly because he was intrigued with advertising and marketing. He studied the various ways of advertising and how direct response worked.

In high school, Russell took up wrestling and became state champion, continuing his wrestling through college. He says now it helped teach him lessons in hard work, competition and winning.

While still in college, Russell launched his first product; potato gun DVDs, and had his first success in the small business world which lead to internet marketing. With his obsession of marketing, he had made his first million dollars within a year of graduating college.

Products he sold included: t-shirts, supplements, coaching books, coupons, software and much more. He quickly became one of the top marketing minds in the world.

All of this lead to the birth of his software company, ClickFunnels, which he co-founded with Todd Dickerson in 2014. The company has 55,000 customers and grown $ 100,000,000 in just three years.

Why has he done so well, you ask? He is obsessed. He's still that twelve-year-old boy who is obsessed with how it all works, mainly, sales funnels. He studies every sales funnel that exists, breaking the apart, teasing them down, seeing how they work, why they work and then applying them in his own funnels.

He truly wants to offer the best product that will work for you and / or your company to increase your sales and bottom line. He is sincere in wanting to help you achieve your goals in your business.

Each year he host's a three-day event called Funnel Hacking Live. Each year so far he's sold out his 3,000 tickets at $ 1000 each. This year he awarded 94 people the Two Comma Club Award for selling $ 1,000,000 or more through their sales funnels. As of 2018, his teaching and software has created 206 millionaires.

And he is genially ecstatic each time someone succeeds, whether it be their first dollar or their first million.

In a nutshell, Russell is a hardworking, family man of faith, that works hard for his customers and clients every step of the way. If you want to learn the art of sales funnels, you could pick no one better or more qualified than Russell Brunson.

Basic Information on Lower Ab Exercises

Performing lower ab exercises the wrong way will lead to nothing. Those who want to achieve flat and ripped abs will not achieve their goal by doing workouts the wrong way. Other muscles that are not provided to be used are often incorporated into the exercise, resulting in a wrong workout execution. If you really want to shape up that tummy, take note of the following pointers.

The number of reps a person can do will not determine the effectiveness of the exercises. What you must do is to target your muscles properly while doing the exercises. You should be able to feel your lower abs while targeting them. However, you must be careful as too much workout can make your lower abs feel a bit numb. Without you knowing it, you might overdo the workout and this will lead to muscle strain, which you will feel the next day. Always remember that good lower ab exercises must target the Transverse Abdominus. This group of ab muscles, also known as the transverse ab muscles, is the one responsible for pulling the belly button towards the spine. They are located horizontally under the Rectus Abdominus, which is the group of muscles that pulls the front pelvis up toward the belly button. Unlike the Transverse Abdominus, the Rectus Abdominus runs vertically.

Here's one simple exercise that targets the transverse ab muscles. First, kneel on the floor. Place your hands in front with palms flat on the floor. Once in this position, try to pull your belly button in and hold it for around 10 seconds. That's the ideal time for beginners. After holding it up, release it slowly and repeat the procedure. You must gradually increase the time to around two minutes or until other muscles start to contract. What's important in this exercise is to keep the other parts of the body relaxed. This is to make sure that your transverse ab muscles – and not other muscles – are being targeted.

You must be able to feel your lower abs working. If you are not sure how the lower ab muscles are supposed to feel in this exercise, you may first conduct a simple test. The process is the same except that you will lay face flat on the floor instead of kneeling. You will feel the lower ab muscles contracting better in this position. When you are used to the feeling, move to the regular position. You can also use your legs to target your lower abs. In this exercise, you must first lie flat on the floor, on your back. Bend one leg and keep the other on the ground. The bent leg's thigh muscle must be perpendicular to the ground. Once in this position, move the leg towards the ground, until your foot touches the floor. However, you must target your lower muscles while doing this. Do the same procedure for the other leg.

When you are able to do this easily, what you can do is to increase the tension. You can do this by doing the same procedure, but the leg must be straightened instead of bent. In this exercise, you will feel your lower ab muscles contract more. Once you've passed this stage, you can move to a more difficult exercise. Use the same process though this time, you will raise and lower both legs in straight position. These workouts may be performed from 2 to 3 sets. Each set must be composed of around 10 to 15 reps.

Ideas For Fashion Club Activities

Although many schools sponsor organizations for students interested in art, fashion design and merchandising, some students prefer to form informal fashion clubs. Students join these clubs because they are interested in a career in fashion, or simply want to share their love of fashion with others. Fashion clubs attract members by planning a variety of activities.

A fashion club has numerous options to choose from to complete community service. Project ideas include coat drives, collecting used clothing for disaster relief, raising money for a scholarship fund or supporting a famous fashion charity. Of course, service projects do not have to be related to the fashion industry. Recycling, health walks and food drives are also possibilities.

Club members can engage the student body by supporting school events. This may entail attending school athletic events, concerts and plays. See if the club can sell clothing designed by club members at these events to raise money for future club activities. Other students may be more willing to support and join a fashion club if they sense the club is supportive of other student organizations.

After the club has raised some funds, field trips can be discussed. Field trips can range from as close as in the school itself to hundreds of miles away. Set aside one meeting for club members to go to the school library to check out biographies of famous fashion designers. At the next meeting, hold a discussion on the designers. If the club has the necessary funds and the support and permission of the school administration, excursions off campus may be possible. Trip ideas includes jaunts to department stores, movies, restaurants and local fashion shows.

A major activity a fashion club can undertake is providing its members and others with information about the fashion industry. Many fashion clubs even make guest speakers the cornerstone of each meeting by extending speaking invitations to businesses and organizations associated with the fashion world. After listening to the guest, open up the floor for questions.

Another way to give out information is to organize a career fair. In a large room, arrange tables for representatives from various local baronesses and organizations. High on the list for invitations should be colleges that offer programs fashion programs, area fashion academies, design houses and clothing stores. Other possibilities include modeling schools and agencies, art institutes, beauty schools, wholesale clothing suppliers, and stores that traditionally hire students. Open the career fair to the general student body to encourage more businesses to participate.

Your Porch With Innovative Solutions

Your porch can be set up in accordance with your flight of imagination. Whether you wish to enjoy the contact with Mother Nature on sunny days or at any moment protect yourself from flying insects, wind, rain or cold weather, you have the possibility to get all web information appropriate to your requirements and wishes.

You can convert your living room or a lounge into a porch with folding French doors, bringing the outdoors into your home. You could even combine modern ideas with traditional ones such as screens, railings, porch gliders, indoor and outdoor porch swings and wooden furniture, adding charm, grace, and comfort to any outdoor gathering area.

Your porch also helps you transform simple outdoor spaces into enriching areas. The porch serves as a place to pause comfortably before entering or exiting. For many of us, porches bring back reminiscences of loved summer evenings spent in conversation and laughter with friends, family and neighbors.

A sun porch is ideal for spas and hot tubs. Relax in the warmth of a passive solar sunroom addition. The country porch is a blend of all things to create a home for the heart, creating an inviting homespun country home.

Many prefer to find supplies and equipment online (Google, Yahoo, MSN, and / or AOL). Proper planning strictly requires that you measure out your porch space ahead of time and ensure you have a supply of equipment ready to go for installation.

Professional looking porch railings share many features in common. Most professionally designed railings include decorative details to give the home a classic or cozy looking exterior. Woodwork comes in a variety of designs lending to a more finished and professional looking railing. Other important components of a professionally designed porch railing include proper installation. To install your trim properly you will need finishing nails, a drill, wood files, possibly a saw and if you plan to paint, the appropriate exterior paint and color. You should be sure you measure the space you have available for your railing exactly before installing. This will help minimize error.

Decorative millwork and porch trim offer an extensive line of brackets, corbels, fretwork, spandrels, gable decorations and porch trim in select hardwoods or maintenance-free polymer material. The decorative accents and gingerbread trim reflect authentic Victorian designs for decorating your home. Selected porch trim, gables and brackets are available in durable maintenance-free white PVC material or can be painted when lightly sanded for your color themes.

Without question, porches set the stage and feeling of any fine home. First impressions are generally the repeating ones. This is true of homes as well as people. The porch is the means by which your home says, "Hello … and welcome!"

The Soil in Which Things Grow

Plants grow by a very complex process. The leaves, which are above the ground, take in some of the nourishment that the plant needs by absorbing sunlight and turning it into chemicals. The roots, which are below the ground, soak up minerals dissolved in water, these minerals coming from the soil in which the roots grow. A plant never runs out of sunlight, but the soil does run out of chemicals. When this happens, healthy plants will no longer grow in it. There must be a waiting period in which the soil can enrich itself with more minerals of the kind the plant needs. So long ago that history does not go back so far, men learned that they must let the ground rest between crops.

The ancient Egyptians, nearly ten thousand years ago, let a field "lie fallow" every few years, which mean that they planted nothing in it or else planted a crop (such as alfalfa or another hay) that could grow without taking any important minerals out of the soil, and in fact would cause the soil to acquire new minerals to replenish the ones it had lost. Not long after that, farmers learned that various fertilizers (which were then generally called manure) would supply minerals to the soil and make it grow better plants. Finally, scientists began to apply their knowledge of chemistry to the problem and to analyze the soil to see what chemicals and minerals it needed and did not have. These missing chemicals and minerals, especially nitrates, carbon, iron, and others, they could feed to the soil so that the soil in turn could feed them into the roots of the plants.

One of the ways of preventing the soil from wearing out, and one that has been known for thousands of years but is still practiced, is called crop rotation. First a certain field is used to raise a crop that takes from the soil some of the minerals but not all. Then a crop is raised that does not take those same minerals, but does use the ones that were left from the year before, and that restores to the soil the minerals that were taken out by the previous crop. These missing minerals are restored because they are in the roots and stems of the plants that die, and rot, and become part of the soil. Rotation means "turning around," and the rotation of crops is a changing from one crop to another, then going back to the first one, so that the whole process goes around as though in a circle.

The farmer learned all these things, and he bought the best seed and the best fertilizer, and he worked very hard, and he still found his farm becoming less and less valuable. The reason, very often, was "erosion," which means "wearing away"; in spite of everything he did, the topsoil, which is the most important soil, was wearing or washing away from his farm. The topsoil is the layer of soft, black earth that lies on top of the harder, poor level of clay or packed sand that is called subsoil. The topsoil is rich in the stuff that life is made of. It is the level of soil that is soaked when it rains. Through this topsoil worms and insects burrow, both loosing it while they live and enriching it when they die. Just because it is on top, the topsoil is most likely to wash away in a heavy rain or blow away when it is dry and the winds are high, leaving for the farmer only the barren subsoil in which he can not grow anything of value. The problem of soil erosion became so severe that even in the rich United States, not more than thirty years ago, many farmers were unable to make a decent living because their soil was no good. It was one of the great problems of the country. The problem has now been solved to a very large extent. One way has been to cut level fields or territories into hilly country, so that when the water pours down from the hills

Monitor Color Problem – How To Repair LG710E CRT Monitor With Blue Colour Missing

If you think that electronic repair is very difficult to learn then you have to read this article where only by using a solder gun could solve a Monitor color problem. Of course there were many tough dog cases (very difficult to find out the fault) in electronic repair but at the same time there were also many cases that can be solve by some simple ways. This LG 710E LG Monitor came in with no blue color problem. How do I know if the blue color was missing? Simply run a color test (that you may also download from the internet) or from a Monitor testing program generator, you could clearly see as which of the color is missing when you run the color bar test.

A missing blue color in the Monitor could cause the display to turn yellowish. Troubleshooting color problem is one of the easiest in Monitor repairing. Whether the missing color is from blue, red or green there are some areas that you need to check in order to successfully repair it. Here are some of the points that you need to check:

– A bended color pin at the VGA connector. (If pin one is bend then there would be no red color)

– A defective VGA signal cable. If the internal wires were broken then there would be missing colors. You can check if the signal cable is good or bad by doing a continuity test using a multimeter.

– Dry joints in the CRT board such as in the CRT socket pins, video pre amp and driver IC and even at the connector pins. In fact this problem contributed about 80% of Monitor color problems. Applying fresh solder would usually solve the color problem.

– A defective IC either in the Video Pre-amp or Video Driver IC.

– Faulty components in the CRT board. It could be a shorted driver transistor or even electrolytic capacitors that the ESR reading had shot up!

– A bad CRT socket. Sometimes decayed glue could cause the internal pins rusted and thus affecting the colors. Replacing only the CRT socket would definitely solve the problem.

– A weak or a defective picture tube (CRT tube). Yes, I do came across one of the electron gun (most probably the cathode materials had used up) in the tube faulty caused a missing color in the screen. There’s no way to repair this type of problem-the only way is to replace the CRT tube.

– In the newer type of Monitor, color setting is save in the EEPROM IC . Thus, if the EEprom data is corrupted, you would also get a missing color! The only way to repair it is to reprogram the IC or use a soft jig to tune it back the color setting.

Now, which one of the above is the easiest to start with first when comes to troubleshooting the color problem? I believe you would agree with me that the first, second and the third are the easiest compare to the rest. Normally I would hit the Monitor with my bare hands to see if there are any changes in color at the display (be careful not to hit too hard till the casing broken). If there is a change or flashes then I can say that the Monitor has dry joints. And if it stills the same no matter how many times I hit it, I will then starts check the VGA connector and the cable.

In the above Monitor, the problem was dry joints because when I softly hit it with my hand at the side of the Monitor, the blue color immediately appears. The aluminum shielding at the CRT board was opened and I could clearly see lots of dry joints especially in the video pre amplifier and the video driver IC. When you resolder please don’t just touch on the IC’s only, you need to resolder others area as well like the CRT socket pins. Doing this would prevent any color loss again in the future. A good job would prevent call back and to save you time and money and most of all your reputation!

After everything was done, you then need to gently knock at the CRT board again with the plastic handle of the screw driver to see if the color problem still exists. You may also knock on the main board just in case there is any dry joints there. One more thing, if you find that the Monitor is a bit dusty, you may use a vacuum cleaner and a brush to clean up the dirty area.

Whether you are repairing the LG 710E or any other brand of Monitors, if you come across any monitor color problem, you can always use the procedure above to find out the fault. If the VGA signal cable is okay and there were no dry joints in the Monitor, I guess the only way is to use voltage testing method and start checking components with your tester or meter.

Kitchen Lighting Tips

Out of all the lighting projects in the home, one of the most overlooked rooms is the kitchen. Since modern kitchens are replacing traditional kitchens and becoming popular places to congregate over coffee or a snack, kitchen lighting is also developing along with today's modern needs.

Kitchens require specific lighting to aid in food preparation tasks and often consist of both task and ambient lighting. According to some professional lighting designers, the kitchen is the one of the most versatile and interesting projects to handle. It can also be one of the most challenging due to its kitchens, shelves, appliances, as well as numerous nooks and crannies.

About Task Lighting

The first approach to kitchen lighting is to consider the areas that are in need of task lighting. These are the areas that best lit with lights that are bright and will not have a shadow and include places such as tables, sinks, and counters. Task lights work best when the fixture is close to the work area gets the maximum amount of light possible. Small under cabinet lights are great choices if you desire lighting for your pantries and / or other closets. The options available for task lighting include fluorescent tubes, spot lights and directional lights.

About Ambient Lighting

Ambient light serves as general lighting that gives the kitchen overall lighting. Fluorescent tubes are a great choice for their efficiency as well as broad and even illumination. Incandescent down lights are a good choice for broad and even lighting while achieving more dramatic effect to your kitchen. Using conventional recessed lights, surface lights or light fixtures that are on a pendant or chain is a good ways to achieve direct lighting.

Other interesting lighting options include adding a layer of accent lighting for artwork and collectable and kitchen occupancy sensors. Kitchen occupancy sensors are a good choice for kitchens with multiple entrances. These sensors operate by turning on the kitchen lights automatically when someone enters the room from any direction. This is accomplished by the sensors "seeing" all the entrances from their location.

Cabinet Lighting

One of the ways to make your cabinet more attractive is the through the use of cabinet lights. Cabinet lights are mostly used to provide a sufficient amount of light for working or to display things. The types of cabinet lighting depends on the brightness, temperature, color and consumption of voltage. Cabinet lights with the effect of fluorescence can be of a great use for those who have a problem with heat from other forms of lighting. Some lights also have a brightness adjustment effect that can be very useful in each time of the day.
If you are planning on cabinet lighting for your kitchen, be sure to install the lighting in front or near the cabinet. This will provide the exact amount of light required while providing an added elegance to your cabinet at the same time.

The right kind of kitchen lighting will not only add to the function of a kitchen, it will also add warmth and character to the room as well.

6 Reasons To Pay For Treadmill Assembly

Why should you pay for treadmill assembly?

Good question. Paying $1,000 or more for a treadmill is a pretty hefty bill. Then you need to decide whether paying an additional $150 to $300 for assembly is worth it. So often the free shipping offered by many online treadmill retailers seems like such a good deal – why ruin it paying for some premium assembly service?

6 reasons to pay for treadmill assembly are as follows:

  1. With treadmill assembly there’s better odds your treadmill will be put together properly when assembled by a professional. I know I’d be clueless whether I assembled a treadmill correctly. I would probably end up with extra bolts and other pieces – not a good situation when I’ll be running 6 miles per hour on a belt that if malfunctioned could launch me backwards.
  2. Assembly includes having your treadmill placed in a room of your choice. Don’t ruin your back moving your treadmill throughout your home – especially up or down stairs. Most quality, heavy duty treadmills weigh more than 200 pounds and are bulky.
  3. Save yourself assembly frustration. For handy people who like putting complicated equipment and furniture together AND have the needed tools, treadmill assembly will be fun. For the rest of us who dread spending hours and lose months off our life from the stress of treadmill assembly – the cost is well worth it.
  4. Look at the assembly cost (usually $150 to $300) in relation to the value of the treadmill. If your treadmill costs $300, chances are it’s relatively simple to put together and may not warrant a $150 assembly cost. However, if your treadmill costs $1,600, it’s probably a complex machine and is worth spending an extra $150 to $300 for professional assembly.
  5. Do you have the tools needed? If not, you’ll end up spending money and time on tools you may never use again.
  6. Get your treadmill up and running right away. There is no doubt stories of people who bought a treadmill only to have it sit in a box for months.

When should you not pay for treadmill shipping?

  1. If your treadmill purchase is a light-weight manual treadmills costing less than $500, then curbside delivery probably is fine. They’re lighter and simpler to assemble.
  2. If you’re very handy and have all the tools needed to assemble a treadmill, then go for it. If you have trouble putting together a bookshelf, I suggest pay the extra assembly cost – if you bought a higher-end treadmill.
  3. You have absolutely no more money.

How much does treadmill assembly cost?

Assembly costs range from $150 to $300 – but these figures include shipping and deliver in the room of your choice.

Important treadmill assembly fact:

Not all online treadmill stores offer treadmill assembly. If you want assembly, be sure to ask whether it’s offered.

Life’s Stories Best Convey Your Message

Not long back I was listening to the radio when the host announced: “This morning we will be talking to someone about life on an outback station.” These words took me back to an experience I had when I was an impressionable 15 year-old boy, who, for no fault of his own was pretty much alone in the world. But the interesting thing is in relation to public speaking, this life-changing incident had lain dormant in my mind for nigh on two decades just waiting for a trigger like the announcer’s introduction to bring it to life.

At the time I was working in a little Italian glass factory as an integral part of a team making hand-crafted chandeliers and mosaic tiles. The thing I liked best about working there was the warmth and generosity of these open-hearted people, especially their food!

Fate took a hand in my destiny. Wide-eyed and eager to learn about life, I was fascinated by a young girl who came to work in the factory after living on a sheep station in outback South Australia in an isolated place called Copley for most of her life. Her story enthralled me. All I really new about the place was that it was somewhere ‘way out there’ and exciting! Then and there I decided that I was going to take myself to Copley and be part of the adventurous life of a sheep-station hand! That very night I wrote a letter to the station owner asking for a job – any job, and popped it in the mail. Two weeks later I received a telegram with the succinct message: “Come when ready.”

This threw me into a terrible dilemma. The truth is I’d grown to love the people I worked with. I’d really miss the melodious singing that went on all day as these marvelous artisans worked their wonders with molten glass. I’d miss their wonderful language, sensational food, and the ‘family’ friendships I’d come to be part of. Working in that factory was just like being in Italy – an adventure in itself! What made matters worse, everyone was genuinely crestfallen when I told them of my momentous decision. But I couldn’t get out of it now. So with a heavy heart I was to work out my last few days in my beloved factory.

The day before I was to leave I had just rattled around the corner of the factory on my old bike as I did every morning. Lino, one of my bosses, had been watching and said: “You sit well on a bike and would make a good cyclist.” This observation resonated with me for we often spoke for hours about the legendary Italian cyclists Bartoli, Coppi and Australia’s World Champion Sid Patterson. Without thinking I found myself saying: “Do you think so?… If you help me buy a real racing bike I’ll stay!” Lino simply said “Okay.” And that was that. To my great relief the idea of me going to work on a distant sheep station was no longer going to happen.

This chance comment changed my life. 20 years later I found myself leading a group of young people on a coach camping adventure in the spectacular but harsh wilds of the Northern Flinders Rangers of outback South Australia. As we ventured further into the outback near the crossroads of the formidable Strezlecki and Oodnadatta Tracks we came across a wind-swept railway station hundreds of miles from anywhere on the now defunct *Ghan Line. The unforgiving terrain was desolate and the station itself was half-covered in sand and all rusty. A solitary sign swung loosely on the one remaining post. It read: Copley. A cold shudder went through me. The sheep station I was so keen on going to all those years ago was now a deserted ghost town! Lino’s chance comment “You’d make a good bike rider” had saved me from embarking on an uncertain journey to ‘who knows where’.

Now with public speaking there are two important things to learn from this story: it’s always good to reflect on life’s experiences for from them we can make some telling points and learn so much; the other thing is we don’t have to painfully search these stories out for they can be triggered by all sorts of things when we least expect it – just make sure you have a pen and paper handy when this happens!

*The preservation of the original Ghan railway is now in the hands of The Ghan Preservation Society, which repairs sections of the old narrow gauge track and some notable sidings.

Space Saving Staircases For Small Homes

The traditional kind of staircase really does take up an inordinate amount of space that, in a small home really is not available. Most people just put up with what they have, decorate the staircase and find the best use they can for the under-stairs' area. However, if you are in the market for a new staircase, there is quite an extensive range of home space saving staircases on the market. The cheapest on the market – and also the smallest – is the Karina model which combines either a light or a dark beech wood used for the treads with one of three other colors. As well as being the smallest on the market the Karina is narrow enough to be used as a loft ladder replacement or in other spaces that are too narrow for other, more conventional staircases.

As so many of the modern properties being built nowdays are smaller than their earlier counterparts, manufacturers are now making staircases in a range of sizes. Nowadays, you can obtain bespoke architectural solid wooden stairs in both contemporary designs and to fit a range of requirements; you can get traditional staircases, modern sweeping aluminum curves and modular spiral staircases – in fact, the range has probably never been as good. Part of this extensive choice can be attributed to the state-of-the-art technology and software for designing and profiling the new designs and bespoke sizes. One particular manufacturer, from Italy, is Mobirolo who is renamed for their innovative designs of home space saving staircases.

Mobirolo began focusing on staircase manufacture in 1966 and, since then, have manufactured spiral staircases in different materials, attic stairs, open stairways and self assembly kits such as Fusion or Vogue which are both becoming particularly popular. Mobirolo Marketing Division now distributes the self-assembly home space saving staircases manufactured by Arke such as the very popular Karina or the spiral model called the Kompact. These self-assembly kits conform to the highest European standards and are supplied with a full-length, 25 minute assembly video, printed instructions and parts' lists.

The Space Saving Staircase Company offers other home space saving staircases. These include the very contemporary striated wood with metal balustrades such as the functional Junior model which is manufactured in a range of diameters, including 600cm, 650cm, 700cm, 750cm, 800cm and 850cm. The Mignon, meanwhile, features an open stair design in shades of stripped wood with minimal open treads. The diameter of this home space saving spiral staircase is between 500cm and 700cm. Another of their designs is the Marinara which also features open stair treads. While the diameter is between 500cm and 800cm, the design is completely unique and provides everything you would expect with elegant Italian styling.

Whether it is staircases from a budget kit that, put together, forms a contemporary spiral from as little as 100cm to as much as 800cm or straight and winding stairs that incorporates conventional with contemporary styling, home space . Apart from the timeless elegance of wood, they are now being manufactured in aluminum, glass, or steel – with either open or closed treads. In fact, lack of space no longer precludes a contemporary design being fitted as home space saving staircases have now come into their own.
