Filial Piety – A Life’s Lesson For the Young

Most Chinese are the typical believers in old-wives’ tales and superstitions. They could elaborate with fine details to make surrealism comes to life with folklores. To believe or not is not the issue but as long as they can correlate with substantiated facts to assume they are believable.

If only they can establish an open line for communication by excluding superstitions, the minds of the young will not be too clouded with uncertainties.

However, to certain extent, superstitions help to manipulate the thought to ponder over incredulity to encourage debate. The reasons behind certain superstitions do carry weight because of the reflective effects that will never fail to amaze non-believers into acceptance.

Black is the dreaded color because it is related to mourning. The poor scavenger crow feathered in black is the cursed bird that is never welcomed. Its cawing will drive the hardcore superstitious believers up the wall.

The virtue behind the crow is seldom made known or rather it is not worth telling at all. If a crow is taken to be a curse, then I will say the human kind is worse comes to filial-piety.

Crows will flock and love to nestle in swampy areas for the easy access of food. When the chicks are hatched, the adult crows will detach from the flock. The cock will hang around to prevent predators while the crow will nourish her young with the abundant food around.

When the young are fully-fledged, they will take to the sky with its family to bond with the flock. The lifespan of a crow is about seven to eight years and if the adult crows have to call it a day, the matured young crows will, in return bring them food until life exhausted.

They will abandon the nest to start new dwelling and the cycle keeps repeating because the genes of filial-piety will never cease.

How many children today have filial-piety and are willing to protect and care for their aged parents? So, the black feathered crows are virtuous after all and the human species is the curse, so to speak.

If growing children turned to be lotus eaters and insist that their parents are obliged to be the providers because they did not ask to be born, then they should be cast to eternal damnation.

If a child grows up without an inkling of what filial-piety is about, then it is safe to state what he is learning is from what he is seeing. If his parents have one iota to show respect for filial-piety to the child’s grandparents, then the child will learn from example to reciprocate in the similar manner.

The adage: no child is too ugly and no parent is too poor, serves as the bondage for unity. After all, what misfortune befalls on a family, it is for everyone to share the load and the resilience to foster the ties rather than to complain ignorantly about life.

Abusive parents do not deserve the respect, let alone filial-piety. Irresponsible children do not deserve to be called “my children” because the disillusion is too much to bear with.

Growing old is inevitable and to be surrounded by children and grandchildren will be a blessing indeed! Similarly, when a child is born, he brings joy to those around him too.

It is in the different chapters of life that nurturing may take an ugly turn. No matter what and how many turnings and cross-roads that are laid ahead, the root that you came from must not be left forgotten.

We have to remember that we are what we eat, and at the moment of weakness to abandon your aged parents, think about the crow. There is no excuse for abandonment unless you have chosen perdition!

What is Considered Gout Food?

Studies have shown that individuals who had diets containing high levels of purines and proteins were more susceptible to gout compared to those who had moderate levels of those compounds. Food considered as gout food has been suspected for triggering the effects of gout such as swelling, pain and discomfort. Researchers and medical professionals are now categorizing it in order to help sufferers maintain their health. This article lists down common misconceptions, gout food, and the effects of modern diets.

Should I avoid high-purine foods altogether?

Moderate amount of purine in the body is harmless. Actually, anyone can eat what he or she wants as long as it is in moderation. In most cases, too much intake of one type of food results in certain conditions.

How can I take enough calcium and proteins if dairy products are considered gout food?

Dairy products are also considered as gout food, but recent studies show that low-fat dairy products actually reduce the risk of gout. Get your daily calcium and protein from low-fat dairy products, which are now widely available in supermarkets.

Here is a list of purine gout food that is known to worsen existing gout condition, but not necessarily cause initial gout:

-Cauliflower

-Spinach

-Mushrooms

-Peas

-Beans

Here are purine-foods that are considered safe when eaten in moderation:

-Veal

-Bacon

-Liver, kidneys

-Turkey

-Goose

-Salmon

-Anchovies

-Trout

-Scallops

Below are foods particularly high in purines and should be avoided:

-Sweetbreads

-Yeast

-Herring

-Sardines

-Mussels

-Heart

Which diet should I take?

Specially-formulated diets to address the needs of those suffering from gout is now available. High-protein, low-carbohydrate diets have been found to significantly aid in weight loss but also found to increase the risk of gout because of their high purine content. Those looking into treating their gout and losing weight at the same time should lessen the extremity of their high-protein diet.

Diets that incorporate too many acidic foods are considered gout food. You may be cutting out meat (i.e.: if you are getting into a vegetarian or fruitarian diet), but may be resorting to sweets and acidic fruits. Most sweets (natural or artificial) are acidic, so avoid eating too much pastries and sweetbreads. Cranberry is one example of a highly acidic fruit. Almost all kinds of oils are considered to be acid forming, even olive oil is considered acidic. Other oils include canola oil, sesame oil and sunflower oil. Probably the worst types of acidic foods are alcohol, especially beer, since they are originally from wheat and barley.

Also, avoid foods that serves as natural diuretics such as linden, green tea and stinging nettle. These are gout food that can encourage uric acid crystals to form because they tend to drain the system of water.

Is Vinegar Safe for Septic Tanks?

For every homeowner, maintaining a septic system that includes the septic tank is a very important task that will ensure the system stays running efficiently for many years. A home’s septic tank is dependent on natural bacteria and enzymes to break down and digest waste and keep everything flowing through the system. Without the bacteria additives and enzymes, waste would build up in the tank and eventually create a blockage. The result can be septic system back up in the plumbing system which can spill in the basement and even the drain field. This would result in a very costly repair bill. In order to keep the bacterial from being killed, it is important not to put chemicals in the plumbing system that can kill the bacteria. One item that people use and pour into the plumbing system is vinegar.

Vinegar is made from the fermentation of ethanol by acetic acid bacteria. People use vinegar for a variety of tasks such as a cleaner, anti-mould agent, mild disinfectant, and as bleach. Vinegar has been shown to be an eco-friendly cleaner. As well, vinegar does not kill the bacteria in the septic tank so it is a safe product that can be poured in the drain lines. It is a safe, non-toxic way to maintain your septic system. For instance, pouring a ΒΌ cup of vinegar mixed with 2 tbsp of baking will help prevent slow flowing drains.

Because it is acidic, vinegar is an excellent cleaning agent and can be used to clean sinks, toilets, and showers. It is effective and getting rid of hard water stains. It will also eliminate any foul odours in the drains. As well, it is useful for getting rid of mineral deposits. The thicker the build up of minerals and lime scale deposits, the longer you will have to let the vinegar sit. For difficult to clean spots, you may have to let the vinegar sit overnight. After letting the vinegar sit in drains, it is important to run the hot water through the drain system to clear out the remaining vinegar and sediment. Vinegar can even be used to clean washing machines and their drain hoses. People will clean their washing machines by putting a couple of cups of vinegar in a normal water cycle without any clothes in the machine. As well, people will clean their shower curtains with vinegar to get rid of mould and mildew.

Many harsh chemical cleaners can harm a septic system and some can kill the bacteria additives and enzymes in the septic tank. Using vinegar is one way to avoid using harsh chemicals and the bacteria will not be killed so you do not have to worry about damaging your septic system. Because vinegar is a pungent acid, you should wear protective gloves, especially if you have any scratches. As well, make sure you do not splash any vinegar in eyes. Most experts recommend using vinegar in septic system maintenance because it will not ruin the septic system.

How Do Tow Truck Companies Work?

A tow truck company is a simple concept. The main purpose of a tow truck company is to move disabled vehicles at the request of their owners or the owner/administrator of a property. In urban area or apartment complexes tow truck companies operate to control illegal parking by owners who don’t follow posted regulations or parking rules. In these cases areas in question have limited space for parking and they reserve the right to allow people to park only if they pay for a space or allow people to park in spaces at certain times. If either of these rules are violated it is the right of the owner to have the vehicles towed off the premises. In these cases the owner has contracted in advance with a towing company to service their lots. The property owner will provide signs to patrons as to how to retain their vehicles once they have been towed.

Towing yards are fortified prisons for vehicles. The yards are usually gated with bob wire surrounding the property deterring vehicles owners from jumping the fence to get their car back. The yards also employ automatic fences and state of the art video surveillance to guard against intruders. At night, guard dogs are release to further deter prowlers from stepping foot on the yards premises. Getting your car back from these yards entails paying a fee. These fees can be fairly expensive and usually range from the low $50 dollar range to upwards $100 to $200 dollars. It also depends on the amount of days the tow truck company has your vehicle on their premises. Most yards charge a storage fee per day. This could be another $20 to $50 dollars per day. After a while the fee can become very expensive. If the car is never retrieved a lien is put on the vehicle by the tow company at the Department Of Motor Vehicles. If the lien is not paid off the tow company will file with the local courts for ownership of the vehicle. Once ownership is obtained the cars are either auctioned off or scrapped for spare parts.

Emergency Services is another way that tow truck companies work. If you vehicle is disabled on the highway and you don’t have a means to remove it or you are just to disoriented to solve the towing issue emergency services will have the car towed for you. Owners of towing companies contract with operations like triple A and police organizations to tow disabled vehicles off the highway. Triple A is an organization that participants pay a yearly access fee to be able to have access to emergency vehicle services. In times of need this organization is very helpful.

City Parking – In big cities the parking authority division employ a number of tow trucks to enforce parking laws enacted within city limits. These may be as simple as not paying a toll or parking ticket and parking in a no parking zone. Parking authority will choose to tow your vehicle in exchange for the right to make you pay your tickets in order to get your vehicle back. If the violation is not paid the vehicle towed will be sold at auction.

Phosphate in Swimming Pool Water – The Root of Algae Problems

Phosphate is fast becoming recognized as the major cause of algae in swimming pools.

This summer has seen some of the highest recorded phosphate levels in swimming pools across Australia and New Zealand. Some of this high level of phosphate has been attributed to summer drought related dust fallout, and an increase in the phosphate levels of several common fertilizers. For many years phosphate and nitrate runoff from farms has been blamed for the deterioration of our many lakes and waterways, now the problem has crossed into our swimming pools.

For pool owners, the biggest concerns from high phosphate levels are rapid chlorine consumption and stubborn, repeat algae problems.

Removal of phosphate from pool water is important to help maintain healthy water quality. Once it has been removed, regular maintenance can prevent the level from becoming a problem again and also aid in better chlorine performance and efficiency, reduced chlorine consumption, and no algae problems.

Phosphate and nutrients are required by all living organisms, including algae, to survive and flourish. It is well documented that raising the swimming pools chlorine level will result in less algae problems. But how are they related, and what can be done to remove phosphate from swimming pool water?

Phosphate is introduced to pool water from a variety of sources including runoff from lawns and gardens, pool fill water such as bores, dust, suntan oils and leaves. With time, all of these sources will cause a build-up and increase in the concentration of phosphate in the pools water.

Algae spores are continually being introduced to the pool attached to dust and leaves. They only require nutrients and water to quickly multiply and become a threat to the pools water quality due to rapid consumption/destruction of available chlorine.

For decades chlorine has been used not just as a pool sanitizer, but it is also effective as a short lived algae killer.

Traditional treatment has included “shock” dosing the pool with three to five times its regular daily chlorine dose; this is effective at killing off almost all visible algae.

While this effectively kills the algae, it does not do anything to address the condition that allowed the algae to flourish in the first place. When the chlorine level returns to normal to algae will begin growing again.

Therefore preventing the algae from recurring requires that the chlorine concentration is maintained at the higher level, the water is removed from the pool, or water conditions are changed to become less favourable for algae growth.

Traditionally, phosphate levels have been ignored, while attempting to remove dead algae by filtration. Given wet algae weighs 1000 times more than the phosphate needed to feed it, this is not the most effective way to do this. Also as the algae are trapped in the filter, it releases a certain amount of trapped phosphate back into the water.

The most effective traditional treatment is “super chlorination” or ten times the normal daily dose, effectively bleaching the algae white and killing it. This is followed by a “floc” with aluminium salts, before vacuuming the settled dead algae to waste.

Up until recently, none of the traditional treatments for algae targeted the real cause of the algae problem. Chlorine has always been recognized as an effective algaecide, however does nothing to treat the cause of the algae problem.

In swimming pools there are two effective chemical treatments for removing phosphate from swimming pools: aluminium compounds and lanthanum compounds. In sewage and effluent treatment ponds, iron compounds are used effectively, however these are undesirable in swimming pools due to the staining they cause.

Aluminum compounds are more effective in pools with a high level of phosphate build-up, in the range of greater than 1000ppb (parts per billion); however they require vacuuming to waste after treatment. They will effectively remove phosphate down to 500ppb, but cannot remove phosphate below 100ppb which is required for effective algae control. Aluminum compounds are relatively cheap, and therefore suitable for removal of a large percentage of phosphate accumulated in the pools water.

Lanthanum products are a potent and specific phosphate remover. They are best suited to maintaining low levels of phosphate in pools where performance and convenience are important. They are easier to use and apply than aluminum products and do not require vacuuming to waste after their application. However they are more expensive and best suited for pools with less than 2000ppb accumulated phosphate. One of the main advantages of lanthanum is that its ability to form lanthanum phosphate is not affected by the pools water balance.

A small amount of lanthanum compound will cause the phosphate level to drop below 100ppm, while concentrations of below 10ppb are easy to maintain.

Lanthanum compounds work by lodging in the pools filter media or cartridge, slowly dissolving to lightly coat the filter media. As phosphate rich water passes over the lanthanum crystals, they chemically attach themselves to the phosphate – forming lanthanum phosphate. Lanthanum phosphate is not suitable as a nutrient, and binds into larger particles so it can be removed by the pools filter medium. Lanthanum can be stored in the pools filter in large quanties without causing cloudy water.

To conclude, phosphate removal is the secret to maintaining algae free, quality swimming pool water, while allowing other chemicals to work at their optimal level.

Additional algae insurance, is the use of a preventative, “long life” copper based algaecide to be used in conjunction with regular testing for phosphate.

While phosphate will accumulate in a pool naturally, there are steps pool owners can take to prevent excessively high levels.

– Do not allow runoff from gardens and lawns to enter the pool

– Remove leaves from the pool regularly and promptly

– Apply a lanthanum compound phosphate remover regularly

– Have the pools water tested by a professional.

MIG Welding Certification – Common Tests and Tips

MIG welding certification tests are kind of rare for structural welding jobs. They are more commonly used for pipe welds.

MIG Weld tests that are given for pipe welder jobs are commonly 6 inch schedule 80 pipe welded in the 6G position (pipe is positioned at a 45 degree angle).

Here is a very common test setup:

  • 6 inch carbon steel pipe, schedule 80, 37.5 degree bevel with a 0″ to 1/16″ land. 1/8″ gap.
  • E70S6 bare wire with 75/25 argon/CO2 shielding gas.
  • The root is welded downhill, and the rest of the passes are welded uphill.

Some MIG welding tests use Flux core mig for the fill passes after the root is welded with bare wire MIG. E70S6 is used for the root and E71-T1 is used for the flux core fill passes.

Usually, if the root pass is downhill, its an open butt joint with no backing.  If backing is used, an uphill root pass is common.

For open butt root passes, the thing that will kill a test is slipping and shooting wire through the back side. Some test inspectors will fail your test for that…and all it takes is one slip, so being rock steady is key.

A 6G position downhill root pass with no backing requires the welder to continually reposition his body to maintain gun angle and to stay in the sweet spot of the puddle without shooting whiskers through. Sounds easy, but under the pressure of knowing a good paying pipe welding job is at risk, the shakes can take over and ruin your day.  That’s why its important to practice enough so that you wont be nervous on test day.

Tips:

  • Stickout = the distance between your arc and the contact tip. Keep it short on bare wire mig and longer on flux core
  • MIG gun angle. Pipe is round. Duh. right?  keeping gun angle correct on 6 inch pipe means changing position smoothly and often.  All the while making sure you don’t shoot wire through the root.
  • Keep the nozzle clean.  A nozzle full of spatter will eventually short out when you touch the copper nozzle to the pipe. It always happens at the worst time.  Clean the nozzle every pass.

Easy and Inexpensive Ways to Accessorize a 50s Style Poodle Skirt

When customers buy a 1950s poodle skirts or circle skirts, I am often asked for advice on what to wear with it. Cute and believable 50s costumes do not need to be fully vintage, or expensive! In fact, most of the items you will need to finish off your look can be found in your closet or your local variety store. This article will guide you in accessorizing your poodle skirt to create a fun, affordable 50s look.

Re-Create a cinch belt to accentuate the flair of your poodle skirt:

The cinch belt is an essential part of your 50s costume. It will define the waist to create the famous 50s bell shape, and help to keep your shirt tucked in, so you do the hop all night long and keep looking proper. Here’s how to create the look of a cinch belt. Buy 2″ wide ribbon in a craft store, card shops, florist or dollar stores. A black ribbon, or a color that matches part of your outfit and contrasts with the color of your top is best. Get gussied up in your poodle skirt and top, tuck the shirt in, and have someone help you tie the ribbon over where the shirt meets the waist of the skirt, hiding the line. You can tie it in a cute bow in the back, or tuck the ends under the ribbon, to hide them. You can also do this with a long strip of netting fabric. Just cut a strip about 2″ or more wide, and tie it in the back in just the same way. Accentuate the middle of the bow, or help hide the knot with a pretty pin, or clip on accessory if you like, as well. Have fun with it! You can’t go wrong, as long as you keep the colors and textures consistent.

Pick the right shirt to go with your skirt!

To create a poodle girl look, your blouse does not have to be vintage! Take a look in your closet or local large chain store for fitted t-shirts, button downs, boat-necks, turtle necks, or off the shoulder peasant-tops, in solid colors to compliment or match your circle skirt or poodle skirt. Do you want to be sweet and innocent? Pick crisp white, or light pastel colors. Cute doesn’t have to be powdery– bright bubblegum pink or purple grape colors also work well for a cute princess look, especially with a tiara! Or how about bad and beautiful? Try strong contrasts like red/black, purple/black, white/black, red/gold, and black/blue. You can even try wild colors like black with lime green or magenta/hot pink for a party look.

Another suggestion, is to look in the lingerie section– or your underwear drawer! Camisoles that aren’t too revealing can look very vintage when paired with a cardigan. Cardigans with sleeves that end at or near the elbow are best, but you can always push your sleeves up if you only have a long sleeved cardigan.

Help! I can’t find saddle shoes anywhere!

This is my most asked question. Real saddle shoes can be hard to find, and expensive, especially for a costume that may only be worn a few times. Here is what I tell people looking for saddle shoe help. Start with a pair of plain, white or black tennis shoe. These usually run anywhere from $10-$20, and can also be found in any variety store. Even cheaper knock-off versions can sometimes be found in dollar stores. They aren’t the best quality, but will do for a versatile costume shoe. Try changing the shoelaces to a color that matches your outfit. You can paint your own saddle shoes. Use black paint and sharpies to paint the black part of a saddle shoe onto white sneakers. There are videos online that show you how. Black or white shoelaces will finish the look. Ballet style slippers in pastel colors, black, or white, will also do the trick. They aren’t the iconic saddle shoes, but they are still a totally authentic, comfortable, and great look for your 50s costume. Keep an eye out for mary janes either flat or with a chunky heel.

How do I add some fluff to my 50s poodle skirt or circle skirt, without a crinoline?

If you find yourself in need of a crinoline with little time to spare, here is what you can do to add the look of a crinoline, and some shape to your 50s skirt. While it may not be the same as a big fluffy crinoline, adding a bit of lace or netting to the bottom of your skirt will still add a good amount of shape and fullness, and it looks stylish too! Here’s how to do it. Pick up some relatively stiff netting fabric, fluffy lace, or gauzy fabric in a color that suits your skirt, from your local crafts or fabric store. You want a strip about twice as long as the circumference of your poodle or circle skirt. Use thread to gather the netting into a long ruffle then sew onto the inside of your skirt, using a running or basting stitch, and let a bit of the fabric hang beneath the line of the skirt, about 1in. It doesn’t have to be expertly sewed, just sewn well enough that it stays on, and isn’t making your skirt gather in odd places. If you are worried about your sewing skills, you can sew the netting onto the edges of a slip instead. Use extra netting/gauzy fabric as a scarf for your hair, neck, or wrist! The scarf does not need to be hemmed to look good.

Creating a 50s look does not have to be expensive, or hard, and doesn’t need to include all authentic 1950s vintage items. With a little creativity and bravery, you can find most of the things you need in a pinch, very close to home!

I hope my suggestions help you get inspired to look like the 50s sock hop girl of your dreams!

Three Effective Treatment Principles For Sinus Sufferers

Are you among the 1 in 5 Americans who suffer from sinusitis, allergic rhinitis, nasal congestion, postnasal drip, acid reflux or asthma? Did you know that by effectively treating the nose, you might be able to treat or prevent other problems as well? Did you know that many of the strategies for treating the nose and sinuses also apply to other conditions, such as even acid reflux and asthma? Yes, they do! And it is so important to treat the nose effectively because these are all interconnected.

Before reading further, please note I am a school psychologist and nasal sufferer with the above conditions as well as empty nose syndrome, but not a healthcare professional. While these treatments have generally been effective for me, everyone responds differently to them so what helped me might not benefit someone else. I strongly recommend you discuss treatment ideas in this article with your doctor before attempting them. The best course of action with any health-related problem is consultation with a medical professional, and I take no responsibility for decisions made by people who read this article.

Now, one recommendation that all sinus sufferers would do well to heed: a key concept to remember in treating your nose is that you are in charge of taking control of your health. No one else will do that for you. In fact, I learned that even though my nasal problems seem rather severe, as I suffer from empty nose syndrome, I actually came down with fewer sinus infections than others around me because I learned more about my nose and followed treatment strategies that worked well for me. Many of the treatment principles are universal.

Three guiding principles that can bolster your nasal health are:

Principle 1: Keep the nose moist while keeping mucus moving.

Principle 2: Maintain good blood supply to the nose.

Principle 3: Relax.

A key strategy for Principle 1, keep the nose moist while keeping mucus moving, is nasal irrigation. This is a natural remedy I believe every sinus sufferer must understand and should do. In brief, it consists of rinsing out your nose and sinuses with salt and water. I feel so strongly about nasal irrigation that I believe it must be tried first before considering nose or sinus surgery (unless your situation demands it).

Nasal irrigation has become popularized in 2007 by Oprah Winfrey, as she had Dr. Mehmet Oz introduce the neti pot to viewers. Dr. Oz suggests water used for irrigation should be warm and it must include salt; without salt in the mixture that mimics the natural concentration of salt in the body, the water would irritate delicate nasal membranes. He also points out how many ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialists recognize the value in doing irrigation, which can be more effective than drugs for treating nasal congestion, stuffiness, or allergies, for example, as it involves directly cleaning out the nose and sinuses. Have you noticed the proliferation of irrigation products in your local drugstore compared to even just 10 years ago? The number of products has increased significantly, because there is much value in cleaning out your nose with salt water. I wish nasal irrigation would be tantamount to and as well understood as washing dirty hands!

The doctor who pioneered the concept of nasal irrigation in the United States is Dr. Murray Grossan, of Los Angeles, an innovative ENT specialist who created the Grossan Hydro Pulse Nasal-Sinus Irrigation System, which has reportedly sold 400,000 to date. Interestingly, based on feedback, Dr. Grossan estimates 10%, or 40,000, of these purchasers are from empty nose sufferers. You can visit his website at http://www.hydromedonline.com to learn more about the Hydro Pulse. Dr. Grossan needed to find an effective remedy for treating his patients, many of whom did not have much money, without using drugs. I use the Hydro Pulse twice a day, in the morning and evening. It is important to point out the Hydro Pulse has distinct advantages over other irrigation products, such as a neti pot or a bulb syringe (the latter of which can house bacteria):

1) The Hydro Pulse pulsates at a rate to stimulate your nasal cilia to their best rhythm, restoring the functioning of the cilia.

2) The Hydro Pulse allows you to irrigate both your nose and throat. It is important to irrigate both, particularly since what is in the nose travels down to the throat. Irrigating the throat can bring circulation to the throat, thereby thinning mucus and reducing postnasal drip.

Another key strategy as part of Principle 1 and that I believe everyone should keep in mind before considering nasal or sinus surgery, except in emergency situations, is to get proper treatment for your allergies. Allergies can lead to enlarged turbinate tissue that can block nasal breathing, so effective treatment for allergies can actually reduce the size of the turbinates, an effect that can be very beneficial. (Please note: the turbinates are very complex structures in the nose with the primary turbinates the size of a finger and they play key roles in heating, humidifying, and filtering air, directing and detecting airflow, and providing 50% of resistance in overall airflow to the lungs.) This treatment might consist of allergy medicine and injections. Allergy injections, for example, have been demonstrated in medical literature to improve the immune system and mucociliary clearance functioning. These are generally administered for 3-5 years for optimal benefit.

A third key strategy of Principle 1 is proper diet. This strategy might seem self-explanatory, but it cannot be emphasized enough. A number of tips to consider in terms of diet including drinking 8, 8-ounce glasses of water per day; drinking hot tea with lemon and honey, particularly during a time of a cold or sinus infection; eating chicken soup; and eating foods that might be beneficial for sinus health such as vegetables, fresh fruits, spicy foods, wheat products, and foods high in protein. Conversely, foods to avoid include caffeinated products and alcohol, which increase nasal dryness, and tobacco smoke, which worsens the lungs and consequently leads to more breathing difficulties.

Principle 2 is maintain good blood supply to the nose. Exercise is a strategy that most people are familiar with and can help improve nasal functioning. Exercise increases blood flow throughout the body, while increasing serotonin reuptake inhibitors that will physically decrease the likelihood someone will develop depression. When I run outside (or walk or do any physical activity), I notice that I can breathe better through my nose. Empty nose sufferers tend to particularly benefit from good blood supply to their nose, sometimes finding inversion techniques to be helpful. An inversion technique consists of having the head lower than the rest of the body to increase blood supply to the head and remaining nose tissue (the turbinates). You can purchase an inversion table to do this technique.

Principle 3 is relax, be it a good night of sleep or reducing stress in everyday life. It is important to get adequate sleep per night, which is the body’s natural way of healing. People who are not getting enough sleep are more apt to come down with sinus infections. I recall reading Walt Ballenberger, founder of http://www.postnasaldrip.net informing his readers that after 2.5 years, he came down with a sinus infection. The reason? He had 3 hours of sleep in a 48 hour period. However, sufferers of empty nose syndrome might need to undergo a sleep study and might even need a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine because their breathing difficulties make breathing (and consequently sleeping) that much more difficult. Some of the more severely affected empty nose patients report only being able to breathe for a few hours at a time each night. Finally, reducing stress is also important for sinus sufferers as that alone can reduce the risk of sinus infections.

If you are among the 1 in 5 Americans who suffer from sinusitis, allergic rhinitis, nasal congestion, postnasal drip, acid reflux, asthma, and/or if you have empty nose syndrome, then I encourage you to consider using the treatment strategies discussed in this article, which might just be a starting point for you to take control of your nasal health. Remember, it is you, no one else, who will take control of your health.

The Importance of Plumbers and Plumbing Services

Many often do not think much of plumber and plumber services. This is due to many reasons such as the low prestige of the trade or the infrequent need of and contact with the plumber. However, they provide a valuable service to society, allowing us to enjoy the comfort of our environment with a well functioning plumbing system.

While simple leaks in faucets can be address to by homeowners ourselves, leaks or burst in our pipes especially concealed ones often must be left to a professional plumber. With their wealth of knowledge and advance equipments, they can ensure that the affected area is fully repaired so that your home plumbing system is functioning well again.

Besides leaks or bursting, installation of pipes in homes must also be done by a plumber as we will not have the know-how to do so. Without a plumber, we will not have the pleasure of clean running water and enjoy the basic sanitary pleasures we are so used to enjoy today. Imagine how backward we will become without them, having to draw water from wells for our daily usage. Any home owners facing a stubborn clogged drain, choked basin or toilet bowl can testified to the importance of a plumber in their life. Imagine the stink caused by a choked toilet bowl or the situation of not being able to take a shower; one can easily guess how frustrated one can be. A plumber with their variety of useful tools can quickly rectify these problems and ensure everything run smoothly for us again.

What’s more, there may be instances when we drop something valuable or with high sentimental values such as jewellery into our drain. Who else can we turn to help us retrieve these items? Only a plumber will be able to help us do so without making a mess of drainage system. Thus, from the above, you can see the importance of plumber and plumbing services in our daily life. So next time you engage a plumber, remember the valuable service they bring to our society and how they can help us solve problems which we can’t deal with ourselves.

If you ever need plumbers in Singapore to help you, here is one reliable plumber in Singapore I recommend.

How to Strengthen Your Throw From the Outfield in Softball

Although the ball is larger and the bases are closer together, arm strength in playing softball is no less important than in playing baseball. Ironically, because everything involved with a softball field is smaller than the regular baseball field, arm strength for quickness is possibly of greater importance.

These four exercises will help build the muscle mass required to increase strength in the primary throwing muscles. This is in no way a total strength conditioning program, as the lower body, legs, also play a pivotal role in the overall process.

To perform this exercise, stand with feet shoulder width apart, raise both arms to shoulder level height, begin rotating your arms forward in small circles for 15 seconds, then reverse your circles for 15 seconds. Drop your arms to your side and shake it out.

Perform 10 reps of arm circles daily, increasing your time duration 5 seconds daily until you reach maximum endurance, as with all exercises properly performed, the will let you know maximum performance.

This exercise will increase flexibility, balance and stamina and endurance of the rotator cuff muscles.

Exercise, Resistance or Surgical Bands

Any one of the above training aids will suffice for this exercise.

Attach the band to a stationary object, door, install a hook or whatever, as long as it’s attached at least a foot above, and preferably higher, than your height.

Grasping the unattached end of the band, come to your plant position, left foot forward if right handed, right foot forward for lefties, your arm will be at shoulder height in the L position, hand close to ear.

From this position, using your arm and shoulders, pull the band forward as if you were completing your pitching motion, finishing with your hand at your opposite hip.

Jobe Exercise

This exercised is named after Frank Jobe, Los Angeles Dodgers Baseball Team Physician, and was originally created as a rehab exercise from an arm injury, but Nolan Ryan began using it as a regular strength exercise, and as they say, the rest is history.

To perform this exercise, stand feet shoulder width apart, hold a 1 – 3 Lb. weight in each hand, which are at your side. Slowly raise your arms straight out sideways, until your arms are at shoulder level, then slowly lower them back to your side.

Perform 3 sets of 10 reps each. As you gain strength you can either increase the number of reps you perform, or increase the amounts of the weight, but Do Not Exceed 5 Lb weights as it then begins to stress instead of strengthen the muscles.

Long Toss Exercise

Just as the name indicates, it involves playing catch and throwing the baseball farther distances as your strength increases. Begin this exercise throwing @ 50′ apart, increasing in 10′ intervals until reaching 100 to 110 feet apart.

It’s important to realize and remember, although the drill is Long Toss the number of throws and frequency also has an impact on the drill. You’re better off making less throws per session and throw greater distances and more sessions.

***Be sure to always stretch and warm the muscles before beginning the long toss or your risk of injury will skyrocket. ***

What Is Was Like to Be Stationed on a Submarine Tender in the United States Navy

What is was like to have sea duty aboard a submarine tender.

The first thing I learned about being in the Navy, is that if your duty station is a ship, and it’s moving across the ocean, sometimes it takes you, a long time, to catch up to it, to get on it. That was the deal with this ship, and the destroyer I was on also. It took me almost a month to catch up to the destroyer I was stationed on. It did not take me as long, to catch up to the ship. The ship was on its way to Subic Bay, in the Philippines. And I was going to meet it at the pier, when I got there finally.

After arriving in Manila, me and some other guys that were headed to the ship, stayed the night in Manila, for the first night. That was the first night I had spent in another country, ever, in my life. There were several of us, that flew into Manila that same day, and we needed to take a taxi about 2 hours south, to meet the ship.

We got a nice hotel room in Manila, it was overlooking the streets below, where all kinds of vendors, and jeep like taxis were everywhere, honking their horns non stop. We did not know what to do, so we stayed in the lounge of the hotel. That first night, we all drank right there in the lounge, and just stayed there. We had been traveling for awhile, and we were told not to go out and party, but we did party a little bit, but just in the hotel lounge.

The next morning, a white little van, with air conditioning, came and picked us all up. It drove us to the town where the ship was waiting. Along the way, you could see many different types of taxis, and tons of fields, that we all guessed, were rice fields.

The taxi drivers seemed to drive more crazy than in the United States. They swerved at stuff, hardly slowed down to let anyone cross the street, had tons of decorations glued all over the hoods, and it was all of them, that decorated their taxis heavily. They would honk their horns constantly, and sometimes if you are watching the driver, he is just honking the horn, to honk the horn. There were 3 wheeled motorcycle taxis that they called trikes, all over the place. They were the cheapest way to get around.

I consider myself to be a good motorcycle rider, since I grew up with dirt bikes and motorcycles all the time. One day, I asked one of the trike drivers, if I could drive his 3 wheeled taxi motorcycle. He said I would have a hard time, since I never did it before. I told him I rode motorcycles all my life, I can ride his thing. He bet me 50 pesos, which is about $1, that I could not ride it from one spot, to another. Boy, I drove it just a little bit, and I could not get it to turn around for me, so he was right, you have to practice riding on of those things, to figure it out.

I was the “fresh meat” guy, again, on the ship. This was finally going to be, the real Navy. A ship with over 1,300 people on it. Our office was almost at the very top of the ship. All the admin offices, legal, public affairs, recreation, the CO, XO, and Command Master Chief offices were connected together. The offices are connected together, so we can all use some of the same spaces. You had to do the standard duties anyone aboard a ship would have to do. Fire fighter training, drills, man overboard, abandon ship, nuclear spill, and other type of drills.

Everyone does special training, and you learn other things about the ship. One of my first duties besides being a yeoman, was you had to stand a watch, or serve on a flight crew, or salvage crew, or something like that. Even thou you are working in an office, at any moment, and even at 3:00 am, they might decide to do a drill, or the real thing.

One of my jobs as a seaman in the Navy, and working in the admin department, was during special sea procedures. We might be getting supplies from another ship, that is traveling threw the water, at say for example, 20 knots, and we are traveling threw the water, at the same speed also. We can transfer, fuel, supplies, food, mail, people, you name it.

They might use a helicopter to bring supplies over, from one ship to another, and during all this time, the Captain is up on the bridge, standing out on the wings, directing the ship at what speed it should be at, what course it should be on, and during all this time, he always has a young naval officer, at his side, since he is always training officers, at any given time.

The captain, who I must of saw train 50 different officers with the same thing, over and over again. Here we are, traveling at high speeds, two ships not more than 100 feet from each other. There will be a young ensign, or lieutenant junior grade, standing out on the bridge wings, trying to give the speed, and course, to the quartermaster and helmsman. Also, at the same time, he has the captain right behind him, putting a little pressure on him, telling him what to do, and asking him lots of test questions, and always testing them, and training them.

My job was to keep track of what speed and what course we were on at all times. The young officers would get confused, and could not remember what course, or what speed we were on. You usually just have to fine tune your course and speed, every so often, back and forth, just a little bit, but always back and forth, and the ships will be fine.

It looks really impressive, awesome, and powerful, to be out to sea, thousands of guys working, bright sunshine, crystal blue waters, and your cruising across the ocean, at pretty fast speeds, and you can see cargo, and other items being transferred from ship to ship, and you just think, wow, how cool looking is this.

One day, the captain was up on the bridge, and he was a pretty nice guy, he said, “Petty Officer Stead,” even though I was still only a seaman at the time, he always like to call people by a bigger rank. He said, “You must of heard me say these things over, and over again, a thousand times by now, I bet you could drive this ship better than these officers.”

I always knew when it was time to change course, I could of did what those officers were trying to learn, only because I was up there each time with the captain, when he was always training someone. It was never just the captain doing anything by himself, it was always either a drill, or an exercise, or a supply mission, he was always training junior officers, on everything he did.

One of my jobs was being the CO’s phone talker during emergencies and drills. During battle scenarios, and other things we do, each department would have one person that was a phone talker, like the repair department, the medical department, the damage department, and all the other people connected.

The captain would bark out orders, and I would bark out orders to the other departments, it was kinda like I was barking out the orders, and it was kinda fun, because everyone took it so seriously, and from wherever the captain was at, there was always a good view.

On this ship, the captain had his own kitchen and cook. The cook was part of our department, as the Supply Department, and Executive Department, shared the same berthing space together. So we always shared our berthing with the cooks, and the supply guys.

The cook to the CO, was selected as sailor of the year, for the ship, and he was a good guy. His dream was to work at the white house, and he applied, but was rejected for the job. The captain had his own regular house size stove, refrigerator, and all the things one would have at home, in a kitchen. The cook, would ask the CO, what he would like to eat for each meal, and then make it for him. The skipper might reply, I want a light salad, steak, and whatever else he desired.

Everyone that is brand new to the ship, and is just starting out in the Navy, must perform 90 days duty, somewhere in the cooking section. Either as a cook, helper, cleaner, or whatever. My job ended up being in charge of about 3 frozen food lockers. Now on the ship, there must of been, at least 12 storage lockers, for milk, food, bread, hamburgers, you name it.

We had an elevator at each entrance, and at the top of the ship, we had our own crane. Before we would go out to sea, some semi tractor trailer trucks would come, and we would load the ship up with fresh food, and lots of it. On the ship, you usually get to have 4 meals a day, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and one at midnight again, called mid rats, for people that are still hungry, or people going on watch, or getting off watch. When you have 1,300 people it takes a lot of food.

Working in the food storage department for 90 days was fun, the guy in charge of us was pretty cool. We were always allowed to have the day off, as soon as you got your work done. That meant all of our work, so if someone was done, we would help the next guy get his work done, until all the things were done, and a lot of days, we were done working by noon, and we would be off for the rest of the day. Not too bad a job really.

Important Reasons for Hiring a Personal Injury Lawyer

When a person suffers injury due to someone else’s action, it is natural for him to ask for compensation for that injury. Unfortunately, in most of the cases, the injured person is denied the compensation he is entitled for and the insurance companies never always underpay for their own stakes. Insurance companies do this deliberately as they are aware of the fact that a common person does not know the legalities because of which he will never be able to protest them. This is when there comes a need of personal injury lawyer. A qualified lawyer will assure that the injured gets his due justice.

For any victim, the period after a motor accident can be tough and whirlwind. In addition to taking the pain of his injuries, he may need to make several decisions regarding how to follow up the case. One of the most important decisions he need to make is, whether or not he will take the services of a personal injury lawyer. If the person is having valid medical insurance, he is eligible for reimbursement of all medical costs incurred by him for his rehabilitation. If the insurance company refuses to abide to pay, the total amount the victim is eligible for, services of a good lawyer like the one must be taken.

Insurance companies often mislead the victims to underpay them. The main ways they misguide are

They try to be too nice to the victims and try to socialize with those who do not have any attorneys with them. They try to make an out-of-court settlement with much smaller amounts of compensation than the actual eligibility of victim.

They try to gather all unnecessary information to settle any claim. To keep the victims deprived of their compensation insurance companies demand for unnecessary documents, just to declare the file as incomplete, which is then shown as a reason for non-payment or underpayment of the amount of compensation.

They try to frustrate the victims by delaying the proceedings deliberately.

Many insurance companies do not tell about the riders opted by the victims.

They try to invade the privacy of the victim by uncovering his medical history.

All of the above problems can be solved by hiring an eligible attorney like who has all the knowledge about the legalities involved. Being a trained professional, personal injury lawyer will make sure that the victim gets the entitled amount of compensation. Another benefit of hiring a law professional is to keep the insurance companies at bay. They will never dare to make any false claim or advancement, as they will be well aware of the consequences.

It is a duty of the injured to help personal injury lawyer whom he has hired for his defence. He can help the lawyer by telling him the truth, not giving any written or verbal statement to the police in his absence, taking medical help and keeping all the relevant records intact, taking the photographs on site if possible etc. These things will not only help the personal injury lawyer but also will help the victim to get his due.

How to Attract Girls – Using Eye Contact (And Without Saying Anything at All)

Would you believe that you can communicate tons of information in person without speaking once? Particularly when it comes to seduction, most of the work can be done simply by using body language and deep eye contact.

Flirting is based very little on what you say – body and eye language are more important. If you’ve ever watched two lovers having what seems like a normal conversation, you’ve probably seen this in action. If you just watch their eyes and the way they move their bodies, you can tell that there’s something more going on.

If you’d like to tune up your seduction game and find new ways to woo women without even speaking, then it’s time to discover the power of eye contact.

The Secret to Attracting Girls with Your Eyes – 2 Techniques You Can’t Live Without

Technique #1: “The Triangle Gaze.”
One of the great things about eye contact seduction is that it’s very subtle and you can practice it during any conversation with a woman. Try this: gaze deeply into one of her eyes, then quickly shift your focus to her lips, then to her other eye. She probably won’t even consciously notice it, but she’ll start to feel an immediate attraction.

Technique #2: “Optical Illusion.”
Some men have a real problem when it comes to looking a woman in the eyes. If you have this issue, then try focusing your gaze on a spot on her forehead, between her eyes. It will seem strange to you, but to her it will look like you’re maintaining constant eye contact confidently, which is a big turn on for women.

Just be careful not to stare while using this technique. If you do that by accident, then you end up looking like a total creep and she’ll ditch you the first chance she gets.

One final note…

Eye contact is an integral element of the art of hypnosis. There is one seduction method known as fractionation that uses hypnosis to get inside a woman’s mind. If it’s performed correctly, it will have a woman enthralled by your positive vibes and completely hooked on you.

This fractionation technique is very controversial but it’s undeniably effective. It comes from the playbooks of some of the world’s most skilled pickup artists, and it should never be used lightly.

Getting Out of a Car Lease – There is a Way Out

There are many reasons for someone to want a way out of a car lease…moving out of the country, financial problems or even illness. For whatever the reason may be, there could be some financial repercussions behind breaking a car lease. It all depends on the contract terms and how you go about trying to terminate the lease early. Buyers, or lessors often believe that leasing a car is the same as renting a car, but they are two totally different situations.

Renting a vehicle carries no financial obligation other than returning the vehicle at the time and date that was agreed upon. The only financial obligation is the rental fee which is a one-time payment. Renting is only for a short time period.

Leasing carries a specific term., usually 2-5 years. When you lease a vehicle, there is a legal and binding contract that stipulates how long payments are to be made and how much those payments are for the life of the contract. There are usually penalties associated with getting out of a car lease early that are in the fine print. Leasing companies will require that the remaining payments are made or that the vehicle is purchased for the pay off price. Obviously neither of these options are the best for the buyer since they are no longer going to use the vehicle.

There could be a couple of options for you that are relatively inexpensive, but you must check our contract. First option is called a lease transfer. If this option is not prohibited in your contract, there are companies that can assist you with finding someone to take over your lease. These companies charge a fee, but they will handle the entire transfer process for you.

The other option that people are not aware of is selling the vehicle. Yes, you can sell a leased vehicle. There are companies that specialize in purchasing vehicles that are under lease contract terms.. These companies are considered as dealerships as they are licensed to buy and sell vehicles. This option will satisfy the lease contract and normally the buyer can walk away with no money out of pocket.

The Pros and Cons of Vertical Gardening for Beginners

There are many different types of gardening one can take on as a challenge. Today, the most common types include raised garden beds, lasagna gardening, container gardening, and hydroponic gardening. In this article, we examine the pros and cons of using a vertical gardening system.

In general, you don’t really see this type of gardens at home. You will see most of them in public places such as airports or in private hotels. The reason for this is because vertical gardening is pretty expensive. Compared to other types of gardening methods, plants that are grown vertically usually incur larger expenses. It also requires a lot of time and effort. For example, you need to make sure the soil is kept a specific condition. Otherwise, the soil will fall off easily from the structure.

One should also note that a vertical garden is not suitable for every plant out there. This type of gardening is generally done for decorative purposes. Therefore, if you were planning on growing plants such as vegetables and fruits then you are better off using other methods such as container gardening. So what exactly do people grow on a vertical base? In general, people stick to small things such as flowers and herbs. As you can probably tell, one can create a beautiful board of flowers by mixing flowers of different colors and sizes.

Although it may seem really difficult to grow this specific type of garden, there are certain benefits that comes with it as well. For example, you can save on a lot of space since you are growing the plants vertically. This works well for people who live in small spaces. If you have one of these gardens in place then you will also improve the overall environment of the surrounding area. The plants will clean the air and improve the aesthetics of the environment.

If you do want to try out this gardening method then make sure you invest in the right tools and equipment. The most important tool you will need is a solid vertical base. The material does not really matter. If the structure can withstand the weight of the garden then you are good to go. For beginners, it is highly recommended that you start off with something small. Once you have mastered the techniques for this particular type of gardening, you can move onto something bigger. When you build the garden structure, don’t forget to have a drainage tray at the bottom. There will be a lot of excess water so you don’t want to ruin the floor by not having a proper drainage system in place.
