Bookcase Plans – How to Build a Bookcase With 3 Tools

Before committing myself to a set of bookcase plans, I first decided to shop around for a pre-fab bookshelf, both online and at a few discount furniture stores in town. My plan was to look at a wide range of styles and prices before deciding what to buy. It didn’t take me long to discover that I really had only two choices in the matter; buy somewhat expensive crappy particle board bookcases with fake wood laminate, or buy very expensive wood bookcases that will stay in my family for the next 100 years. The good stuff would be nice, but since I can’t afford to spend $800 at Ethan Allen right now, I’m really left with just one option: the somewhat expensive crappy bookcases. It’s disappointing to think this is my only choice.

So now I’m looking at some bookcase plans, which means I’d have to take on the job of building something from scratch. I’m starting to like the idea, though. First, it’s the only other option I can find to buying expensive crappy bookcases, and second, I like the idea of deciding for myself what level of quality (and expense) I want to put into the project. I don’t want a bookcase made from the cheapest materials around, but I don’t need the most expensive either. Building my own bookcase will let me create something between these two extremes.

I’ve done a fair amount of researching on the Web, and I’ve come up with some pretty simple guidelines for approaching this kind of wood project. Overall, the good news is that you don’t have to be a hard-core woodworker to pull this thing off. In fact, a bookcase is a perfect starter project for someone just getting into building stuff from wood. Maybe it’s a little more challenging than making a sawhorse (which is also a good plan to start with), but I think it’s important for beginners to make something they can be excited about when it’s all said and done. So let’s get started with some of the basics of building a bookcase.

Three Tools – I assume that most people attempting their first bookcase project will not have a complete set of woodworking power tools in their shop – things like a table saw, drill press, router table, planer, and all that. What I do think first-time builders might (and should) have is a circular saw, a router, and a power drill. It’s pretty amazing what you can build with just a few reasonably-priced tools.

#1 Circular Saw – A circular saw will cut just about anything you can throw at it, and with a few accessories, some fairly complicated joinery. Even if you decide later to upgrade to more expensive tools, your circular saw will always get used in the shop. For a simple bookcase, you’ll be using the circular saw to cut all the boards to length, and to help make the dado cuts that hold your bookcase shelves. You’ll also use the saw to cut down a 4×8 sheet of plywood for the bookcase back.

#2 Router – I’m sure there are plenty of wood projects being built without the help of a router, but my question is, why go to the trouble? Sometimes you can pick up a decent router for under $100, and considering the extra work you’ll save yourself in the long run, that’s a good investment. A router will make easy work of cutting the dadoes for your bookcase shelves, and with a few accessories, let you try out a whole load of professional-style woodworking techniques.

#3 Power Drill – Everybody has a power drill of some sort sitting around in the basement or garage. You already know how much use (and abuse) this tool gets for literally hundreds of jobs around the house. Although it’s possible to build a simple bookcase without ever picking up a power drill, the no-screws approach to building a bookcase requires that you own an insanely large number of clamps to hold everything together while the glue dries. Really, we’re talking about 20 clamps or more at about $20 each. Ouch. At a fraction of the cost, you can unleash the same clamping power on wood joints by using wood screws (or even nails) to hold pieces together while the glue sets up. Of course, you’ll have holes all over everywhere, but most people just fill them in with putty and they look fine.

Plywood vs Solid Wood Shelves – Choosing the right wood for a bookcase plan can be a big topic to get your arms around, especially if you start reading the zillions of articles online about wood species and wood grades, plywood construction, shelving span calculators, etc., etc. This is all good stuff, but for now, let me narrow down the choices for a first-time bookcase project.

Hold off on plywood shelves… this time around – Sure, plywood is nice for bookcase shelves because it doesn’t have the warping problems that plague solid wood. But plywood comes in 4×8 sheets, which means you’ll be doing a LOT of cutting to make all the pieces for a simple bookcase. For experienced woodworkers, this isn’t really a problem. They’ll first cut down the sheet into more manageable pieces (usually with a circular saw) and then head over to an $800 table saw to get things perfectly square and perfectly sized for the bookcase plan they’re following. Not that you can’t do all this with another tool (like a circular saw or jigsaw), but at some point it just becomes too much work to make a zillion cuts in plywood without the bigger, beefy tools.

Solid Pine Shelves – For first-time projects, I like to use off-the-shelf dimensional lumber from the big box stores like Home Depot. Pine is relatively cheap (compared to hardwood) and is precut to standard-size widths and lengths. That means a LOT less cutting for me to get the basic pieces of my bookcase ready for assembly. Woodworkers might point out that dimensional lumber is inconsistent in width and thickness, which makes less-than-perfect woodworking joints without first planning and/or squaring the boards on a table saw. They’re right. Dimensional lumber is not perfectly square and consistent from one board to the next. But that doesn’t mean you can’t build a decent-looking bookcase otherwise. Sure, you might have some small gaps in the joinery, and maybe the case isn’t absolutely square and plumb. But more often than not, you’ll be the only one who knows any different. Save the more exacting work for nicer bookcase you’ll build next year.

Setting up to Cut Boards – It’s a little frightening to think about how precarious and unorganized a workspace can be when we start cutting boards. No one wants to spend time moving around tables, setting up sawhorses, adjusting work clamps… just to cut off the end of a board. Unfortunately, any less preparation than what I just mentioned will put you in a dangerous situation. Power tools can be evil… and I mean really evil. And it’s not about how much experience you have. Go online and search woodworking accidents. The most horrific stuff happens to people who have been building for 20-30 years without a scratch. Then out of nowhere things suddenly go wrong… boards go flying across the room, arms and fingers get cut, and worse.

Cutting Dadoes for Bookcase Shelves – By far the trickiest step in following bookcase plans is cutting the dadoes (that hold the book shelf ends). No need to be intimidated with this part of the project, though. If you’re really careful about setting up for the cut (that means using the right clamps and cutting guides for your router) this can be the most fun you’ll have with bookcase plans. I like to cut my dadoes assembly-line style. That is, I clamp down both sides of the bookcase side by side… so that each pass with my circular saw (and router) cuts both boards at the same time. This not only saves you tons of time and headache, it also makes sure that your shelves are perfectly aligned when you glue everything together.

What is the Need For IT Certification and Types of IT Certifications?

Many of you would be thinking that in these times of IT slump, acquiring IT certifications doesn’t make sense. You could not be more wrong! The IT slump is a transient phase, it will go away, but your certification will remain and will give you a vast edge throughout your technical career.

In fact, when the economy booms there is hardly any time to get into certifications; it is in lean phases such as this, with little to no work at hand, that you have the best opportunity to prepare for and equip yourself with an IT certification.

From the very basic Microsoft Office Specialist Certification to Microsoft certified IT Professional, Microsoft offers all types of certifications. Microsoft Certified Solution Developer (MCSD) enables you to develop different technical programs used by Microsoft. Microsoft Certified Trainer helps you learn about troubleshooting and technical aspects related to Microsoft. Certified Database Administrator and Microsoft Certified Engineer are a few other good certifications.

Some corporations like Serebra have certification programs like Cisco Networking Certifications and Client/Server databases help you develop in-depth knowledge of Networking concepts.

Oracle offers certifications for various products from its suite – the Oracle database, middleware, Forms and Applications (EBiz, Siebel, Hyperion, PeopleSoft etc.) Certifications are available for various levels of competence – OCA (Associate), OCP (Professional), Master (OCM) and Specialization/Expert level.

Corporations like Accenture have internal certification programs like ASDA ( Accenture Solutions Delivery Academy), which have collaborations with MIT for certifications in JAVA, Testing and advanced C++. Other organizations also offer similar certifications for their employees.

SUN has many IT Certifications for programmers. Starting from the basic SCJA & SCJP for beginners, SUN offers specialized certifications such as SCJD, SCWCD, SCBCD, SCDJWS, SCMAD which are meant for a Java developer, Web component developer, Developer for Java web services and Mobile Application Developer respectively. Sun’s most advanced certification is the Enterprise Architect (SCEA).

Private Institutes provide certifications in the domain of testing, like CSTP & CTM which are meant for Test professionals and Test Managers. The next advancement comes in the form of Certifications for Quality Analyst and Test Engineer, (CSQA & CSTE). HP also offers certifications on its various automated testing tools like HP0-M47 for QuickTest Professional and HP0-M46 for QC certification.

So you have a whole gamut of certification choices. Make the most of them. Stay focused, go in for those certifications that help you excel in your technical domain.

Why Do I Need a KitchenAid Slicer and Shredder Attachment?

If you or your family loves pizza, tacos or salad, you definitely need to purchase this KitchenAid slicer/shredder attachment. It performs the cutting and shredding that a food processor would do. Potatoes, onions, nuts, chocolate, and vegetables can either be shredded or sliced.

The KitchenAid Slicer/Shredder attachment is easier on the arms than if you had to manually slice or shred large quantities of vegetables for cooking or munching. The blades take up less room than a food processor.

Whether chopping nuts, or shredding cheese or carrots, quick work is completed in record time using a KitchenAid slicer/shredder attachment.. Vegetarian pizza can be topped with a wide variety of vegetables and shredding cheese is done quickly. If you prefer a meatier pizza, the attachment is great for slicing pepperoni and salami. If a salad is called for, than slicing cucumbers and carrots will be a breeze.

Have you ever thought of preparing scalloped potatoes, au gratin potatoes or hash brown potatoes? The potato list is endless. Want apple pie for dinner tonight? Peel and core the apples and then use the KitchenAid slicer/shredder attachment for a picture perfect pie.

In case the steel shredder cup is a bit hard to detach from the center shaft, than a handy tool will help in dislocating the cup for easy clean up in the dishwasher.

Your KitchenAid stand mixer can be turned into a food processor with the slicer/shredder attachment. This attachment is an extraordinary workhorse and can do about anything in addition to being easier to work with than a food processor.

Whether you love vegetarian pizza or are more inclined to a meatier pizza than the KitchenAid slicer/shredder attachment will go well with your KitchenAid stand mixer, thus eliminating an entirely separate food processor. Storage is easier and clean up is done in a matter of minutes.

10 Costly Sound Proofing Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

Mistake 1: Hiring an Expensive Acoustical Consultant

Most people should be able to isolate and solve noise problems themselves without ever retaining an acoustical consultant.

If you are considering a consultant, unless you have a big budget, it’s important to do a little homework and learn something about your noise problems and how they might be solved.

A consultant will approach any problem you have in a very scientific and systematic fashion. There is nothing wrong this except that it is time consuming and consultants bill by the hour. Also acoustical consultants are not cheap. So rather than having a highly paid professional sniffing around trying to determine the source of your problem, roll up your sleeves and do some detective work yourself. You can crawl around in a basement or ceiling or meet with your neighbors in an attempt to determine sources of noise pollution without spending a cent. A consultant will charge a lot of money to do these things for you.

If you do decide to bring in a consultant at some stage it will be far more cost effective if you have determined 1) the source of the noise pollution, 2) some of your options for dealing with the noise and 3) the extent to which the various noises bother you. The consultant will not know which noise causes you the most stress. You’ve got to give this careful consideration. The interesting thing about soundproofing is that because noises mask each other, removing one noise often makes another appear louder and more annoying. As you make your home more soundproof it will be quieter but ironically this will mean that you can hear other noises. You need to think carefully about these issues and draw up a noise priority list based. This list should illustrate which noise pollution impacts the most on your quality of life. Always put sleep interference at the top of your list. Noises which interfere with a good night’s sleep can be the most troublesome and stressful and can impact directly on your health.

Mistake 2: Trying to Get Even With Your Noisy Neighbors

A lot of noise pollution is caused by noisy neighbors. It’s normal to assume that any neighbor who makes an annoying noise must be inconsiderate. In reality most neighbors are actually reasonable people and they might be quite unaware that they are creating a noise problem. So as a first step try having a friendly conversation with your neighbor. Use language like: I need your help with something which you are probably not even aware of. Your dog seems like a great pet and friend but sometimes he barks during the early hours of the morning and it wakes me up. I can’t get back to sleep which means I’m very tired during the rest of the day. I know it’s normal for dogs to bark – the solution might be as simple as keeping him inside or in another part of the yard at night. Do you mind if we discuss this some more, perhaps you could come over for a coffee and I’ll show you where my bedroom is and why it affects me so much.

It is important to keep the discussion friendly even though you might feel very annoyed with your neighbor. People with barking dogs are usually aware of the problem and secretly hope that no one will complain. This means that they also expect that one day they will have to do something about the issue.

Under no circumstances should you consider retaliating by making your own noise, this will never solve the problem and could result in the police becoming involved.

Mistake 3: Buying “Any” Soundproofing Material

There are many different types of noise pollution. The type of material and the techniques you need to use to solve your problem will require a good understanding of the exact noise source and problem. The simplest noise variables are how high pitched the sound is (e.g. bird chirping) or how deep it is (e.g. stereo sub-woofer or boom cars). Other important variables are how loud the noise seems, where it is coming from, the sorts of building material that it is passing through (e.g. windows, walls and floors) and whether the noise if continuous or intermittent. These are not difficult things to determine, but you do need to do a little homework and preparation and you certainly need to know these things before you buy any soundproofing materials.

You need to be able to describe your noise problem very clearly, know its source and know what type of solution you are seeking. You also need to know what sorts of solutions you can use e.g. do you lease your apartment and therefore must not make any permanent changes to the structure?

Mistake 4: Listening to “Wives Tales”

Beware that some materials and techniques just do not work despite the endless exposure that they seem to attract. What’s more frightening is that using the wrong material or technique could actually make your problem worse, for example some materials will actually appear to make a noise louder or change it to something even more irritating.

Aside from the obvious myths around egg crates and plastic window film which are essentially useless as soundproofing materials, other materials and techniques to be suspicious of include:

· Old carpet

· Cardboard

· Special paints

· Fibreglass batts e.g. the type used for thermal insulation

· Rubber e.g. old rubber mattresses and floor mats

· Any type of mattress secured to a floor or wall

· Dry cellulose fibre pumped into walls or floors

· Timber sheets (unless they are uncoupled)

· Corrugated or pyramid shaped foam like the type used in recording studios – this does not stop noise passing through walls, it simply dampens noise which is already in the room.

In short you need a credible, unbiased guide to solving your noise problems. The alternative is trying to sift through the science, logic and truth behind each material and technique and then learning how and where to install the material. Even if you had the time to attempt this self education, it is a very frustrating process and there is no way of knowing whether you really have really reached the right conclusion until after you’ve completed the job. You could end up spending more time and lots of money on methods and materials which do not properly solve your problem.

Mistake 5: Coping When you are Exhausted & Annoyed

Noise pollution can drive you to despair and can literally impact on the health and happiness of you and your family. As a matter of urgency you should consider finding an immediate “compromise solution” to your problem. The most rational, cheapest and fastest compromise is a set of high tech ear plugs. People often think that I am joking when I say this. I’m not. These days it is possible to buy very comfortable and very effective high tech ear plugs which are designed to reduce significant noise. You can buy one or more pairs and start catching up on your sleep and thinking time. Once you have reclaimed your sanity you will be in a far better state of mind to embark on manageable longer term solutions to your noise pollution problems.

Mistake 6: Replacing “Float” Glass with “Laminated” Glass

Laminated glass does give some additional benefit but not as much as you might think. In addition laminated glass is expensive. You would actually achieve a much better effect if you left the existing sheet of glass in your window and secured a second slightly thicker piece of normal (float) glass to your window frame with an air cavity of an inch or two between the two panes. A four inch (100mm) separation between the sheets of glass and some moisture absorbing powder in the cavity gives excellent results and can be done on a budget. This technique is definitely easier than replacing existing window glass with a new laminated pane.

Mistake 7: Complaining to Local Authorities about the Noise

I hate to say it, but most things involving complaints to Local Authorities are time consuming, costly, demoralising and often get you no closer to solving your problem. Anyone who has ever locked horns with any type of bureaucracy will tell you that even when you have a valid complaint the bureaucracy will take forever to do anything. In the meantime you still have to put up with the noise problem and you get more and more stressed and feel more and more like you have lost control over your private world.

I’ve heard of people who have been asked by local Council to keep a diary of their noise problem for a whole year! Unfortunately most organisations like local government or even the police do not have the noise measuring equipment or proper understanding of noise and environmental laws to properly enforce them anyway.

So instead, put all of your energy into things that you have control over and look for quick wins which will build your confidence and restore your quality of life. The ear plug advice in Mistake No. 5 is a simple example of a quick and inexpensive win over annoying noise pollution.

Mistake 8: Taking A “Best Guess” on Installation Techniques

Even if you have bought effective soundproofing material, most of the effectiveness of the material will actually come from correct installation.

There are two installation considerations:

1) Correctly securing the soundproofing material.

A common reason why soundproofing material fails is because it is not properly isolated from the surfaces which are transmitting the problem noise. For example many people purchase floating floors in an attempt to reduce noise transmission between levels. This often fails because the floating floor is not adequately isolated from the original floor. Floating floor manufactures usually provide a cheap thin membrane to put down on the existing floor before installing the floating floor. The manufactures usually assure you that you are doing the right thing. Sadly it seems few floating floor retailers know very much about soundproofing. What’s more it seems that few retailers of any of the products commonly used in soundproofing systems really have a good understanding of soundproofing science and the hidden traps.

2) Correctly placing the soundproofing material.

Even if the soundproofing material is correctly installed and secured, unless it is installed in the right place it might not solve the noise problem. For example a product called mass loaded vinyl (MLV) is a very effective soundproofing material. If MLV were used to reduce sound transmission between two levels of a dwelling, it would work very well if secured to the ceiling of the lower dwelling i.e. under the noisy floor but it would have poorer performance if installed on top of the noisy floor.

A great help to domestic soundproofing is reliable do-it-yourself information which is clearly laid out with simply diagrams and unbiased materials reviews.

Mistake 9: Not Following the Right SoundProofing Technique

Again this mistake relates to having reliable unbiased do-it-yourself information which is clearly laid out and which you can carefully follow.

Remember a properly placed piece of soundproofing can fail if you lose your way during the installation process. There is a lot of data to suggest that a small break in any soundproofing “system” can results in profound reduction in its performance.

This is not something you have to worry about if you are patient person and you are prepared to be careful and follow a good set of instructions. Again, more reason enough to ensure that your mind is in the right place, that you are calm and are not rushing desperately and erratically to get rid of the noise pollution. See Mistake 5.

Mistake 10: Thinking Gaps are Bad so Cavities Must be Too.

Many people believe that the secret to solving noise problems is filling or packing spaces.

It’s true that the first step in any soundproofing plan is making things airtight but this is very different to filling spaces in walls, floors or windows. The truth is air in an airtight cavity can be an excellent soundproofing “material” in certain circumstances. To make the most of air cavities their size and number need to be carefully considered.

So as with all the points raised above, be careful not to rush into pumping, pouring or packing any cavities until you are very clear what it is you are trying to achieve – but definitely aim to make all walls, doors, windows and floors airtight.

Nutrients for Bone Support

Bones are continually being remodelled throughout life and, with ageing, more bone is broken down than is rebuilt and the mineral content of bones diminishes, causing them to become less dense and less able to resist normal stresses. This type of bone weakness is called osteoporosis, meaning ‘porous bones’, and causes increased risk of fractures. Hip fractures are the most serious outcome because they may lead to permanent disability and even death.

In women, oestrogen enhances calcium absorption and maintains bone strength. When oestrogen levels decline at menopause, bone loss accelerates and bones can lose 1-5% of their mineral content each year.

Calcium

Calcium combines with phosphate and is incorporated into the mineral matrix of bones as hydroxyapatite to provide rigidity and strength. When blood levels of calcium drop, parathyroid hormone is released and stimulates the kidneys to produce 1,25 dihydroxycholecalciferol (calcitriol), the active form. This causes calcium to move out of bones into the blood, increases calcium absorption from foods and reduces losses in urine to ensure blood levels of calcium are adequate for normal heart, muscle and nerve function. When blood levels of calcium are restored, bone is rebuilt. A low calcium intake over time causes hyperparathyroidism and weakens bones. Older people absorb less dietary calcium because their intestines are no longer as responsive to active vitamin D and this can be compensated for by increased calcium intake and maintaining adequate levels of vitamin D.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is a steroid-derived hormone that is made naturally in the skin when exposed to solar ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation of 290-315 nm wavelength, which is within the spectrum that causes sunburn. The precursor is a cholesterol metabolite, 7-dehydrocholesterol, that is converted to previtamin D3, which then undergoes thermal isomerisation to form cholecalciferol. It is transported to the liver, where it is converted to 25-dihydroxycholecalciferol, which is then converted to calcitriol in the kidneys by the action of parathyroid hormone.

During winter in higher latitudes, the sun is too weak to make vitamin D effectively and the body relies on stores built up over summer. Vitamin D deficiency is becoming more common because exposure to sunlight is restricted by excessive clothing, sunscreen use and indoor lifestyles. Having a dark skin colour reduces skin synthesis and vitamin D metabolism is impaired by ageing.

Mineral Calcium – The Importance Of Mineral Calcium In Our Life

Mineral calcium is associated with many important functions of our body including development of bones and teeth, normalization of blood clotting and growth of muscles. It is also needed by the nervous system and the immune system to fight against many degenerative diseases.

The most important function of the mineral calcium is probably the prevention of osteoporosis or bone disease in old age. Women are more likely to be affected by this illness in their 60's or 70's and the major cause is calcium deficiency. People who are not very fond of milk and other dairy products should have their serum calcium performed right away to discover whether they are deficient or not.

The Mineral calcium is found in beans, nuts, green vegetables and fortified cereals in addition to milk. Dairy products made from low-fat milk are also good sources of calcium. However, if you are deficient your doctor may prescribe some calcium-rich tablets to overcome this deficiency along with suggesting a proper diet and exercising program.

Mineral calcium obtained from supplements is more effective when it is taken with vitamin D, iron, magnesium and vitamin C. Because of this reason, fortified orange juice is prepared by adding calcium citrate to provide an adequate amount of calcium to the body. Calcium carbonate (coral calcium) is also an important compound used in the preparation of good-quality calcium-rich supplements.

Calcium carbonate provides up to 40% elementary calcium to be absorbed by the blood. Normal calcium carbonate has a low absorption rate, and there before these tablets should be consumed right after meals. However, coral calcium has been found to be more effective in terms of absorption rate and is better than normal calcium in providing long-term health benefits.

The mineral calcium can also be obtained from liquid calcium supplements. These products are ideal to be used by children and elderly people. They are made by blending calcium carbonate or calcium citrate with other compounds containing magnesium or potassium. They are easy to consume and easy to digest. Benefits of calcium-rich supplements include stronger bones and teeth, prevention of many diseases including depression and PMS, and controlling high cholesterol levels to assist in weight loss.

To obtain maximum benefits from nutritional supplements use them with a good, balanced diet and regular exercise. Have your serum calcium performed after every 6 months to ensure optimum level of calcium in the body for long-term health and prevention of degenerative diseases.

The Magician’s Oath – Protecting the Secret

“As a magician I promise never to reveal the secret of any illusion to a non-magician, unless that one swears to uphold the Magician’s Oath in turn. I promise never to perform any illusion for any non-magician without first practicing the effect until I can perform it well enough to maintain the illusion of magic.”

If you are truly dedicated to learning and understanding magic, then you should stand proudly and say the Magician’s Oath listed above. By doing so, you establish yourself as a magician along with making the promise to yourself and other magicians that you will uphold your promise and not reveal secrets of the trade purposely of due to your inexperience with a trick.

As much as magic is about amusing your audience and leaving them with a feeling of awe, magic is also about you enjoying what you’re doing. If a trick you’re about to perform has been revealed to your audience, you’ll find that the fun of the situation has all but disappeared. Recognizing the effects that revealing a trick can have on your performance and the performance of others should be enough to dissuade you from doing so. But if it isn’t, keep in mind that many individuals perform magic tricks for a living. Would you pay to see a magician if you knew how all of his tricks were performed?

Magician’s tend to distance themselves from other magician’s who have broken the Magician’s Oath. With fellow magician’s being the best source to learn new tricks and help refine your skills, breaking the oath can be career or hobby suicide. Magician’s who have entered the lime light to reveal secrets have been publicly outed in the past and now find themselves no longer active in the world of magic.

Reading about the Magician’s Oath on a website that provides instruction as to how to perform magic tricks may seem odd, but the truth of it is that we’re upholding the oath in our own part as well. It has always been considered acceptable to provide a means to learn magic to those that have the desire to learn magic. It has become harder and harder to come by a magician who will invest the time to teach someone the trade, for pay or free, so turning to the internet, books, and DVDs has become the only available option for many.

One of the greatest things about magic is that the possibilities are endless. Old tricks can always be changed around so that the revealed secret is no longer relevant and a new trick is born. By learning tricks from MagicTricksAndYou.com, you’ll begin to realize that the skill you gain here will be the building blocks for your future in magic.

Mistakes In Choosing A Mailbox

As of now, there are numerous items homeowners consider to make their homes better and functional such as windows, doors, fixtures and other items that can make homes comfortable and appealing. That is why some homeowners make mistakes in choosing a mailbox. In order to avoid these mistakes, below are some of the most common mistakes homeowners make.

Not checking safety features

One of the most common mistakes homeowners make when choosing a mailbox for their homes is they usually neglect safety features. As of now, communicating is much easier with the use of laptops and mobile devices. Plus, there are companies that offer door-to-door deliveries. However, there are still instances when homeowners may receive snail mails or small packages. Because of this, these essential documents or package can be taken by passerby, which can be frustrating. Therefore, homeowners must consider safety as an integral factor in choosing letterboxes.

Disregarding mounting styles

The next mistake homeowners make is they usually disregard mounting styles. Like other home items, mailboxes have numerous mounting styles. These styles can provide numerous features for homeowners. For one, wall mounted boxes can provide better security for your mail. Next, standalone mailboxes are more accessible. And, fence mounted mailboxes are easy to install. Disregarding mounting styles can surely make installation tasks harder. Neglecting mounting styles can also affect your schedule since you need to spend time thinking how to fit the box. In addition, homeowners may require special tools in fitting mailboxes which can make it even stressful.

Neglecting mailbox materials

Another factor homeowners neglect when choosing a mailbox is do not consider mailbox materials. Just like mounting styles, mailboxes are created from numerous materials. And, one of the most popular materials used is stainless steel. With this, boxes are more durable. Not to mention, mails are more secured since stainless mailboxes are water resistant. Other than that, stainless steel letterboxes can complement any home designs.

Not considering styles and sizes

Finally, some homeowners also do not consider styles and sizes of mailboxes. In case that you regularly get small packages, it is best that you opt for larger sizes. Homeowners also need to make sure that mailbox designs can complement your home aesthetics. These factors are important to allow homeowners to ensure that mails, packages and home designs will not be compromised.

Knowing all these mistakes will allow homeowners to find the right mailbox that can help them secure their mails easily and properly.

Passion, Purpose, Position: Pluto’s First House Placement of Pivotal Power!

I enjoy the subject of astrology and most especially the MODE Cosmic Therapy humanistic, psycho-analytic delving into the intricacies involved. I enjoy it, not only because it entertains and educates, but because I thoroughly love dissecting interlocking various mathematical patterns and geometric relationships. Yes, angular patterns. Everything that exists occurs because of the various different patterns associated.

The pattern of water H2O (water) is different from NaCl (salt); yet both are necessary in their own sphere of influence and function; most especially, in the electro-magnetic roles they play in the human body. So, too, are the spiraling patterns linked to bring about certain functions by their specific positions -in the galaxies- whose radiating subatomic-ionic measure influence us by their specified orbits.

Take the influence of Pluto (Scorpio) for instance. Everyone has Pluto located somewhere in his/her astrological natal chart. However, dominating Pluto people {those who have Pluto located in the first house} are considered to be too egotistical, skeptical, and harsh. There is seldom any pity felt for them when damning consequences result from their brusque actions. Confrontation proves to be training ground they welcome. Most people say they are nothing short of evil.

Others will say “Well, he (or she) deserves it, since he (or she) brought it on himself (or herself)”. Unfortunately, Pluto ruled first house people are not necessarily aware of what they did or do to bring ‘things’ on themselves. They simply want things and people to be brought into the light! They abhor falsity. And, because they do so love to expose devious motivations, in themselves and others, they will stop at nothing to achieve the task of bringing phonies to light.

Today, as I am discussing Pluto’s position and influence in the first house of the astrological natal chart, I am starkly reminded that it is solely due to the probing power of Pluto that any of us question our purpose for being alive on planet Earth. How could it be that this small (seemingly inconsequential remote planet) subject the human race to such blatant unrest?

The subject of death, which immediately lays the groundwork in the realm of Pluto, astrologically, drives us to uncover what we possibly can to illuminate the matter. Superficiality will not suffice when brought before the master of death. Incidentally, regarding the natal chart, if Pluto is close to the Ascendant, the journey and delivery of the birth is involved in somewhat of a crucial life and death struggle.

The mother was undergoing an ongoing trans-formative phase- when the child was born-which entailed deception and marked dissatisfaction. Even though the birth may not have brought about a literal death, the mother is forever changed and linked irrevocably to the child in life changing struggles. {A turning point in her life; no doubt}

The relationship with mother and child is so intertwined and formidably joined, though somewhat elusively disguised, remains identical in make-up. The child will possess an irresolute fear of the impending doomed motivations in people, in as much, as trusting them will be an ongoing issue.

We all instinctively feel the subconsciously penetrative influence of Pluto (Scorpio) but usually deny its transformational range of emotions!

Sometimes, due to this inability to pretend for long, first house Pluto ruled people will quickly close the door to the immovable, frustrating past, and perseveringly, though, grudgingly, go on. Friendships and connections are severed entirely, with little chance of reviving. Labeled either a ‘loser’ or an egomaniac, this person can simply disappear from the scene, altogether.

Indeed, the Pluto native is often hard to find and pin down, anyway – but under times of self-generated stress- he or she can simply vanish, leaving no forwarding address or any clues to his or her whereabouts.

The Pluto first house person is intensely self-critical and, much like a harping parent continuously tries to redo him or herself. Inner responses to self-criticism create crises and personal overhauls in the personality, as well as in the surrounding events and environment of the person. This individual finds it hard to know when to stop belittling himself or herself.

Ultimately, after trying to avoid the continuous hassle and pain of the self-overhaul the Pluto person semi-self-destructs through negating punishment. The lifestyle will seem to become a consuming landslide, pulling this native down to the pits, to the bottom-where the wailing and gnashing of teeth is heard, and experienced.

This ‘all or nothing’ kind of living creates alarming situations that don’t seem to stop, but only help to continue the devastating momentum. In some cases, the individuals lose their sources of income, their homes, their lifestyles, relationships, everything; and have to fiercely struggle in order to start over doing something else. Others will avoid these people, fearing that the landslide could be ‘catching’ – that it might affect them.

I could go on for hours about the direct enigmatic influence of Pluto’s dynamic position found in the first house of a person’s natal chart. Let us just say: “crises” becomes the name/path of the individual. And, unless you enjoy the ripping to pieces every single underlying motive, stay clear! Of course, not every first house Pluto native has this particular problem of unrelenting crises; some will simply sulk, balk and boomerang.

But, EVERY single Pluto ruled person will generally be a very private person! Few people, if any, will get to know this person, intimately. During gregarious times of personality, a certain danger is attached. With this aura of alluring excitement around the Pluto native, which suggests that here is someone who lives life very richly and excitingly, the sign reads, “Enter At Thy Own Risk!”

Being around such a person can lend an aura of glamor to one’s life but not without exacting a steep price. Others feel somewhat intimidated, hesitant to ‘buy into’ the sheer raw power expressed.

Needless to say, the Pluto first house person acts with the skill of an adept magician, and that’s what magnetically attracts others. Somehow, others simply know that the power of this person can and DOES bring into his or her life anything she / he wants – anything!

The Scorpio focus of awareness is deep, and the sense of crystal-clear, unhampered, intense, dynamic, powerful inner motivations can tap into and DRAW from the attracting resources of the universe. Using clarified desire, the essential nature of Scorpio spawns that magical innate ability into reality.

The native can experience life intensely in the moment, and is extraordinarily perceptive. But, NOT when second-guessing is brought on the home front! Like a hawk or an eagle, people with first house Pluto are aware of their environment, and of how that environment reflects their own nature. They can live life with excitement, involved in unraveling the mystery of reality, and exploring their own magical resources – of which there are many!

Physical manifestations in the reality of the Pluto first house person include several up-rootings throughout life, {least, of all prison time} such as moves to other and perhaps distant locations, which could involve the altering of family/home situations. There can be danger of bizarre accidents, particularly during a Pluto transit of the first house. Sudden unexplained illnesses have a tendency to show up revealing deeply imbedded psychological difficulties.

Most often, however, there is simply a withdrawal from outer social events, a tendency to prefer seclusion or a reclusive way of life. Physical problems (ranging anywhere form alcohol/drug addiction to mental breakdowns) can absorb a great deal of time in treatment; and the native is often not averse to using any new technological or occult methods, making his or her body a testing laboratory, so to speak. He wants to KNOW, without question, what he is able to endure!

“Daring Risks” will be the motorcycle of choice to ride in order to compensate! Ruthlessly determined to PROVE something, these folks bow down to no one at no time! No stranger to disaster, protection and self-preservation- at all costs-rules them. Physically fit, they barricade themselves against inevitable desolation. They are loners who find it difficult to co-operate with others who are merely playing idiotic games.

No one can match their treacherous need to be in control and dominate. No stranger to the face of terrorizing demons, either, they back down from nothing. Thus spoke Pluto in the first house of the natal chart.

Prostate Massage and Milking the Prostate – Risks and Dangers – Nurse’s Guide

You may have heard about prostate massage and milking the prostate. You may have experienced it or know someone who has. But you may not be aware of the risks and dangers. The prostate gland is a delicate sensitive organ and should be treated as you would any internal organ – with respect, care and with your utmost health in mind.

Although some doctors have used massage or milking in the past there is no way to know just how many, if any, are using massage now. It comes with some serious risks and dangers and if they’re using this procedure or treatment it would be with the utmost care. It’s reported that some doctors have used massage to relieve chronic prostatitis, something that doctors routinely prescribe medications or drugs for now.

So letting someone massage your prostate or milk your prostate gland or doing it yourself may not be a wise choice. You may be doing some serious damage for a one-time experience which ends up may not being pleasurable.

As you probably know, the prostate gland is one part of the male reproductive system and produces seminal fluid and is involved in ejaculation and orgasm. It is located just behind the bladder and is about the size of a walnut. The gland is susceptible to many diseases and conditions including the most common, benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH), often referred to as an enlarged prostate, and acute or chronic proatatitis and prostate cancer.

It contains many sensitive nerves especially on the top and center part of the gland. Pressing or pushing on this part of the gland can do some serious damage.

The gland can be inflamed without your knowledge or without having any symptoms called acute prostatitis. If you’re massaging or trying to milk the gland you can really harm it. One risk would be if you have acute prostatitis you could end up with Fournier’s Gangrene, a serious infection, also associated in diabetes mellitus.

You can get blood poisoning called septicemia. Many people die of septicemia each year. You might cause some hemorrhoid problems. And worst of all if you have prostate cancer you may be encouraging it to move out of the gland into the blood stream or into the lymph system and spread to other parts of the body.

You can also damage part of the urethra – that is the channel that urine flows through.

Knowing some of the risks and dangers should help you decide whether you want to take a chance using prostate massage or milking the prostate. Make sure to check with your doctor before undergoing any manipulation of this gland. It is not worth serious health and medical consequences that can seriously change the course of your life.

Useful Information About Dry Risers

Dry risers are the vertical mains fitted into staircase enclosures or other appropriate positions, with outlet valves on every floor and inlets fitted at ground level to enable the fire brigade to connect supply of water in case of fire in the building. The only function of the dry risers is that they provide a ready made means of distributing substantial amount of water to stub out or prevent the spread of fire.

Where dry riser should be installed?

Riser should be installed in the building where any floor is higher than 18 meters above ground level. On the other hand, buildings where there are floors higher than 60 meters above ground level, wet risers are used.

The number and disposition of dry rising mains should be such that:

1. One is provided for every 900 square meters of floor area at each level other than ground floor of the building

2. Rising mains are not more than 60 meters apart in a horizontal direction of the building

3. No part of any floor area is more than 60 meters from a landing valve measure along a route appropriate for hose lines.

Design Consideration for Dry Riser:

1. In dry riser pipe work and fittings should be of Galvani wrought steel and pipe work should be joined by screwing

2. Changes in pipe’s direction should be made with standard bends rather than elbows

3. Dry riser should have a nominal bore of 100 millimeter where only one outlet is provided on each floor. If two outlets are provided on any level on any one riser the main should have a nominal bore of 150 millimeter

4. Each riser should be provided with a 25 millimeter drain valve at the lowest point of the pipe work. When drain valve is not in use, it should be strapped and padlocked

5. An appropriate automatic air release valve should be fitted at the highest point in each rising main to allow the pressurised air in the pipe to discharge when water is pumped in.

Electrical Earth:

Dry riser should be electrically earthed and bond those joints which do not provide electrical continuity. These considerations are very important and need proper concentration at the time of installation. There are many professional companies in UK which are providing quality services for dry riser servicing, installation and maintenance.
