5 Things to Consider When Designing an Office Layout

Moving into a new office space can be a daunting experience if you have never done it before. There are many factors to consider (both internally and externally to the office environment) which will impact on the suitability of the space and the most optimum use of it for your business. This article provides information on the 5 most important factors to consider once you have confirmed your new office location.

1. Segment the office space using office plans to scale

Before moving into the office space, ensure that you have correctly analyzed the space for existing staff and furniture as well as any anticipated growth over the occupancy period. Once you have understood your space requirements for the entire occupancy period, you can then create office plans which accommodate for your immediate and long term needs.

2. Install office partitions within open plan spaces

If you are going to create segmented areas within an open plan office, install glass partitions. Glass partitions help to increase natural light within partitioned spaces and are also cost effective to install and remove as you require. Glass partitions also provide a higher level of professionalism to an open plan office, making the office look more accommodating to staff and visitors. Office partitioning requires some advanced planning but with external advisors the implementation can be simple and cost effective.

3. Do not compromise on value add areas such as staff break out areas

The biggest downfall with open plan offices is an underestimation of a business’s growth. Ensure that the space you are committing to is viable to accommodate your business regardless of changes in operational size. Compromising on break out space for extra desk space will be detrimental to the morale of the staff.

4. Ensure sufficient lighting is available in all areas

Having natural light within an office space is a crucial element to keep staff motivated and productive at all times. Ensure that your office layout takes lighting into consideration and that any office partitions or storage furniture does not block natural light out.

5. Invest in the advice of office refurbishment specialists

If you have a large open plan office that needs to accommodate a large number of staff, invest in specialists for office refurbishment. London based refurbishment specialists can advise, design and build office layouts to suit the requirements of businesses of any size.

Best Herbs for Internal Detoxification – 5 Channels of Elimination

The case for ridding the body of accumulated waste is a strong one. Powerful natural healers over the years have pointed to internal cleansing time and again as a cornerstone of optimum health. Natural health adults including Dr. Bernard Jensen, Dr. Norman Walker, Ph.D., Dr. Jon Matsen, author of Eating Alive, one of the best natural health primers ever written, Dr. Paul Bragg, Dr. Herbert Shelton, Dr. Paavo Airola have all emphasized the need to cleanse our internal bodies. The list of advocates goes on and on. The question no longer is whether to detoxify, but how.

At the end of the nineteenth century, Dr. John Harvey Kellogg, of Kellogg's cereal fame and subject of the film The Road to Wellville, offered his guests a variety of cleaning programs at the Battle Creek Sanitarium. Later, Dr. Jensen assisted thousands of patients treat a wide assortment of ailments through internal cleansing at his ranch retreat in Escondido, California. But these days it is not practical for most of us to drop everything for days, weeks, or even months at a time to "clean house". We may no longer have the time, but our need to detoxify is greater than ever.

Today, toxins from every direction bombard our bodies. Poisons pollute the air we breathe. They see into the water we drink and infiltrate the food we eat. There's just no avoiding them. In 1993 over 271 million pounds of toxic chemicals (phosphoric acid, ammonia, sulfuric acid, methanol etc.) were dumped into our water supply. Agribusiness uses 33 times more pesticides today than 50 years ago. The simple truth is your filtering and eliminative organs were not designed to process such a heavy load. Sometimes they become overworked, sluggish and toxins begin to accumulate through the entire body.

Staying inside will not work either. The EPA reports that levels of pollutants inside buildings can be as much as 100 times greater than outdoor pollution levels. Time magazine, December 21,1998, in an article titled This Place makes Me Sick, reported on the escalating problem known as sick-building syndrome, a disease of modern architecture in which sealed, energy conservation buildings have become breeding grounds for some particularly insidious stuff. These include out-gassing of paint, vinyl flooring, insulation and furniture; chemical contaminants oozing from copy machines, fax machines and laser printers; molds, fungi, bacteria and dusts belching from dirty air ducts and inadequately maintained air conditioners. It's enough to make you sick … and it does.

But if this toxic monster seems unbeatable, do not despair. Therapeutic, internal cleansing can take the load off your eliminative organs and free them up to do their work. Remember that these poisons are hiding all over your body, in all the soft tissues, organs and systems. Avoid the mistake of concentrating solely on the colon. A colon cleanse will do you some good, but improvement will be marginal. The large intestine is only one of your body's five channels of elimination, albeit the most obvious one. The lungs, lymph system, kidneys and skin each have critical rods to play in the cleansing process, and you'll need to address them all to get maximum results. The liver, the primary filter for the blood stream, will almost certainly need detoxifying. However, unless it is especially weak or toxic, cleansing the liver should wait until you've lowered the toxic load on the rest of your body.

Fortunately, modern herbalists have formulated some excellent cleansing products you can use to great effect, without putting your life on hold. Keep in mind, different herbs target different organs and systems. A cleansing product's design should be comprehensive enough to do a thorough job. The best cleanses activate all five channels of elimination and promote the release of toxins from every nook and cranny. Here's what to look for.

Channel # 1 – The Colon
Without you are having 2-3 good bowel movements every day you are constipated and invariably toxic.

Therapeutic Herbs

Health Food for the Kidneys

Emphasize garlic, onions, papayas, bananas, sprouts, leafy greens, cucumbers, and watermelon- all are healing to the kidneys. Try to avoid heavy starches, red meat, dairy products (except cultured), refined, salty and fatty (fast) foods- they all inhibit the kidneys' filtering ability. In general, a healthy diet that includes plenty of water will support healthy kidneys.

Channel # 5 – The Skin

The body's largest organ also happens to be the largest organ of elimination, removing over 20% of your body's waste. If you want to detoxify you're going to have to sweat.

Therapeutic Herbs

Herbs that cleansse the blood have a beneficial impact on the skin.

Black Cohosh neutralizes poisons in the blood.

Yellow Dock a great blood builder.

Burdock Root one of the best blood purifiers.

Dandelion Root detoxifies the liver and the blood.

Yarrow opens the pores to permit free perspiration.

Health Food for the Skin

Foods for healthy skin include: mineral rich foods like leafy greens, bell peppers, broccoli, sunflower and sesame seeds, fish and sea vegetables. Cultured foods like yogurt and kefir supply friendly bacteria. Eat lots of high water content foods; vegetables and vegetables, and drink plenty of water, 6-8 glasses of bottled or filtered water every day.

Turbo-charging the cleansing process with herbs and lifestyle modification has helped thousands of my clients alleviate digestive problems, lose weight, improve poor skin, eliminate allergies, constipation, fatigue, headaches, brain fog, menstrual problems … the list goes on and on. Chances are, it can help you too.

Persistence Can Work Miracles

What trains do successful people have? They are ambitious, hard-working, optimistic and enthusiastic. But above all they are persistent. They never give up, never waver or swerve from their purpose; they stay with it despite the setbacks and problems; they are strong-murdered and determined to succeed. In particular, they get up after each failure and try again. And there's no doubt that persistence pays off. All successful people were determined and persistent as they made their way to the top of their field.

But it takes the proper mindset to be persistent. You have to have faith in yourself. You have to know exactly what you want and set out to get it with determination, regardless of the odds. You can achieve what you want if you have enough persistence, but you have to pay the price. Experience has shown that most people give up just as they are about to succeed. According to Edison, "Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they brave up."

If you look closely at the lives of successful people you see that all of them had determination. They did not give up; they persisted until they got what they wanted.

A Few People Who Learned to Persevere and Went on to Tremendous Success

Henry Ford: Ford's early career was filled with failures. He failed and went broke five times before he finally achieved success. But he never wave up. He pushed on his endless failures, learning from each of them, and he is now considered to be one of the most successful men that ever lived.

Bill Gates: Gates is one of the richest people in the world, but he appeared to be an unqualified candidate for success when he was in school. He had little success early on but found his true calling when he was introduced to computers in high school. He went to Harvard but was in a rush to get out into the business world and dropped out to start a business. The business failed and many of his early ideas did not work, but he persevered and pushed on.

Robert Goddard: Goddard developed much of the technology used in present day rockets. While he was developing it, however, he was mocked and laughed at by many. The scientific community rejected his ideas and told him that space travel was impossible. And his early problems seem to indicate that they might be right: his rockets exploded on the launch pad, he frequently had little control of them when they lifted off, and they rarely went where he wanted them to. But he persisted and developed so many new techniques he is now regarded as the "father" of rocketry.

Abraham Lincoln: Lincoln has to be considered the champion of persistence. He had so many setbacks and defeats it's hard to believe that he did not give up. In 1831 he failed in business, in 1832 he was defeated when he ran for the legislature; in 1833 he failed in business again. His failures caused him to have a nervous breakdown in 1836. Despite this he persisted and went through seven more defeats in running for congress and the senate. Then finally things began to turn around, and you know the rest.

Oprah Winfrey: Oprah underwent hardships in her youth. She was brought up by her mother and grandmother, and lived in poverty for many years. She ran away at 14, hoping for a better life but ended up in a juvenile detention home. She was fired from her first job as a TV reporter because she was "unfit for TV." She persisted, however, and went on to become a major TV host and one of the richest women in the US

Stephen King: King's first book "Carrie," was rejected by 30 publishers. He finally got so dejected he thread the manuscript in the waste basket. His wife convinced him to try one more time, and he did. And, of course, eventually became one of the most-read authors of all time.

JK Rowling: Rowling was penniless, depressed and raising a child on welfare when she began writing the children's book "Harry Potter." To save on heat she did most of her writing in a local cafe. The first 12 publishers revised her manuscript, and when it was finally accepted the publisher told her that she had little chance of making much money on the book, and she should get a "day" job to support herself. But she was determined and continued writing.

Learn From Your Failure and Disappointment

One of the first things successful people learn is that failures and disappointments are not the end. Everyone has them, and the important thing is to learn from them. Ask yourself, "How could I have done it better? What did I do wrong? What can I learn from this?" Too many people see failure as the end of their dream. "Why do it again? I'm just going to fail again," they say to themselves. The people who succeed, however, are the ones that get up and go at it again, and again, for as long as it takes. It's important, though, to analyzing what you have done. Do not just push on blindly and stubbornly. Think about what you have done. Determine where you went wrong, then go at it again.

Think of your failure as a challenge. Be prepared to fail, and accept it. But keep saying to yourself, "I will succeed," and believe it. Put your heart into it, and try again. Remember: Persistence is the key to success. This has been shown again and again. Through persistence you can achieve anything. It can make your dreams come true.

Persistence in Sales

One place where persistence is particularly important is in sales. A study has shown that 80% of sales are made after the fifth call, but the same study showed that 48% of salesmen quite after the first call. Only 10% stuck to it until the fifth call.

People rarely buy something they see for the first time. This is why TV and other ads keep hammering the same thing at you. Most people do not seriously considering buying something until they have seen it in an ad or elsewhere at least five times. Think about that.

A Guide For Developing Persistence

  1. Begin with a definite goal. Make sure it is something you really want – something you're passionate about – and are willing to work extremely hard for.
  2. Write up a plan on how to achieve it. Plan it step by step. Think carefully about each step. Ask yourself how much time each step will take.
  3. Take action.
  4. Do not be deterred by any negativity or discouraging suggestions. Believe in yourself. Do not let anyone convince you that your goal is unachievable. Do not let it even enter your mind. Think "success."
  5. Create an arsenal of feedback mechanisms. You need some feedback if you are to improve. You can not improve if you do not know how you are doing.
  6. Adapt and adjust. If you're having setbacks or problems, analyze them and look for a way around them. Is a slightly different approach needed? Try one; if it does not work, try another, and another, until you succeed.
  7. Develop a strong will and a strong desire. Tell yourself you will not fail. You will not give up! Let your determination show. Keep the "pot of gold" at the end of the rainbow in mind.

Is There Ever Any reason For Stopping?

It's best not to ever let the idea of stopping enter your head. It's a negative thought, and you do not want negative thoughts. If you do not think about it, you will not have to deal with it. Your only thought when you encounter a failure is: Should I change my approach? And if so, how?

Sales may be one place where persistence may not pay off in the end. If it's obvious after numerous attempts with a given customer that there is no chance of a sale, you may have to give up. But again, do not give up easily.

Does Luck Have Anything to Do With it?

When they are told how successful a person has been, many people complain, "He was just lucky. Luck does enter the picture, and indeed, some people appear to be quite lucky. But the truth is: to a large degree you make your own luck. As the saying goes, "The harder you work, the luckier you get." Remember that.

Daily Lotion – The Benefits of Adding Body Lotion to Your Daily Regimen

Body lotion is something that most people, especially as they age, will use from time to time. Adding body lotion to your daily routine is a great way of improving the quality of your skin today and in the future. A daily lotion can contribute tremendously to the health of your skin. There are innumerable reasons why your skin will benefit from such a lotion; some of them are enumerated here.

One powerful reason is to heal dry skin. If you use lotion only once in awhile, your skin will feel more moist after applying the lotion, but it will return to being dry as soon as some time has passed. Infrequent lotion application does little to actually fix the damage done to your skin. If you use a daily lotion, your skin will gradually improve, and in time will be soft and smooth. Some lotions just make you think your skin is softer because they are themselves greasy or moist. A good daily lotion will make your skin actually become softer.

This is especially true for rough spots. Particularly vulnerable spots for roughness are joints such as the elbows, knees, or knuckles. The hands, too, because they are constantly being used and are frequently washed – which, while great for killing germs, can dry them out – are especially likely to be rough and cracked. A daily lotion can help to exfoliate dead skin cells and keep the new skin cells underneath moist and healthy.

A daily lotion can also seal in what moisture already exists in your skin. Cold weather is one of the largest culprits in stripping skin of its natural moisture, causing extreme dryness. Applying a lotion before exposure to the cold can help lock the skin's moisture in, protecting it from the weather. Also, applying a lotion after showering can help to restore what was lost by washing and also seal in the dampness that remains on your skin.

Good lotions will also resist the effects of aging on your skin, often through anti-aging ingredients such as hydrolyzed silk, which improves the elasticity of skin, something that often declines with age. Skin that is more elastic will be firmer and appear more tight, having fewer wrinkles and less sagging. Such ingredients will not only reverse the effects of aging that have already occurred; they will also prevent future aging of your skin.

Another often-overlooked benefit of using a lotion every day is the relaxation a wonderful-smelling lotion can provide. Aromatherapy has been shown to have many benefits for a person's emotional and mental state. Light, pleasant scents such as lavender have been shown to soothe and comfort, and some lotions contain such scents. Applying them to your body will surround you with the air of relaxation.

In these ways, a good daily lotion can provide many benefits to your body. The few minutes you will spend applying a lotion every day will be well worth it, and may even come to be some of the most treasured minutes of your day.

Agoraphobia and Social Phobia – What's the Difference?

What's the difference between agoraphobia and social phobia?

I get this question all the time. That's because the two disorders have some similarities that can make them hard to distinguish from one another. For example, both the agoraphobic and the social phobic are afraid to be in public settings. Both develop a similar pattern of avoidance behavior. Both experience similar physical symptoms associated with panic and anxiety. And since both are classified as phobias, both conditions can be successfully treated with a program of cognitive-behavioral therapy.

So what are the differences between these two conditions? How can you tell them apart?

The main difference between agoraphobia and social phobia can be found in the nature of the fear causing the avoidance behavior. People with social phobia are afraid of social settings that involve groups of people or crowds.

The fears of people with social phobia include the presence of or interaction with other people. For example, a person with social phobia would feel safe walking alone in the forest on a secluded beach.

Agoraphobia, on the other hand, is the fear of open and public spaces, in the presence or absence of other people. People with agoraphobia typically avoid crowds or social situations because they fear having a panic attack and embarrassing themselves.

But people with agoraphobia, unlike those with social phobia, would also be afraid to walk alone in a forest or on a secluded beach because no one would be around to help if they had a panic attack or medical emergency.

But the good news is, you can completely recover from agoraphobia.

How to Tell the Difference Between Fiber Optic Transmitters and Light Sources

:: What are fiber optic transmitters?

Optical transmitters generate the light signals transported by a fiber optical communication system. a transmitter includes a light source but also includes signal generation circuit and components such as an electro-optical modulator.

The transmitter contains electronics that modulate the light source. At low speeds, the transmitter directly modulates light emission by varying the drive current to the light source. But the transmitter needs a high performance external modulator such as a electro-optical modulator for high speed applications. It maintains a constant drive current to the light source, producing a steady output beam, which passes through the external modulator that produces the 1 and 0 signals.

Transmitters can have more than one light source. Each light source operates at different wavelengths and are modulated separately with their corresponding signals. These light sources are then coupled to a single fiber with WDM (wavelength division multiplexing) technology. DWDM (density wavelength division multiplexing) technology essentially expand a single fiber's information carrying capacity by hundreds of times.

:: What are fiber optic light sources?

A fiber optic light source emits continuous light without any modulation or signal processing. It is one component of a fiber optical transmitter.

In fiber optic communication, the standard light sources are LEDs (light-emitting diodes) and semiconductor lasers. Other types of lasers such as gas lasers may be used in some special cases.

Lasers emit much higher powers than LEDs and can transmit much faster signals. But lasers are also much more expensive than LEDs.

:: LED light sources

All plastic fibers transmit visible light better than infrared light, although they can only carry low speed signals at short distances. So visible red LEDs are widely used in all plastic fiber data links. One sample application is a data link on the same floor of an office building.

Light sources emitting at 750nm to 900nm (central wavelength is 850nm) are used for higher speed and longer distance applications which utilize glass optical fibers. This type of light sources include 850nm LEDs and 850nm semiconductor lasers which are made from gallium arsenide (GaAs) and gallium-aluminum arsenide (GaAlAs).

A typical application for this type of light source is between buildings on a campus. LEDs do not offer any cost advantage over inexpensive GaAs lasers so they are less common.

:: Semiconductor laser sources

Semiconductor lasers emitting at 1310nm, 1550nm and up to 1610nm are used in much longer distance glass optical fiber networks. The applications range from inter-building links to transcontinental cables.

These lasers are made from indium gallium arsenide phosphate (InGaAsP). They produce much higher power and speed. Their major applications are in telecommunication systems.

:: Considerations for light source

Many factors determine the choice of light sources for fiber optic systems. Here are a few listed.

1. The wavelength must fall within a transmission window of the optical fiber being used

2. The power must be high enough to span the distance between optical amplifiers

3. The power must not be too high so that it causes nonlinear effects in the fiber or overloads the receiver

4. The range of wavelengths emitted by the source should not be so broad that dispersion limits transmission speed

5. The light source must be able to couple light effectively into the optical fiber

How to Flirt With a Girl – 3 Ways to Convey That You Are a Sexually Attractive Guy

Why does flirting even exist? Well, flirting is the non verbal way of showing that you are a healthy and available creature to the opposite sex. And believe me: You want to know how to flirt with a girl the right way to get one.

Even though humans are the most complicated creature in planet earth, there are some things present in our behavior that almost happen unconsciously when we see a potential sex partner: Males arch their back and stretch their pecs, females touch their hair and lick their lips, just to name a few. Next, the actual flirtation begin, and you want to be very conscious of what you do, because you're sending signals of interest and at the same time conveying that you are a valuable male who can secure the survival potential of the female. And that's the key to attraction: Conveying that you're a healthy and dominating male that are able to protect the female from the dangers of the outside world.

A studied made in 1996 showed that 92.1% of women feel attraction towards men in the first 5 minutes of non verbal interaction. The men who were more successful in this stage were the ones who planned an alpha male behavior from the beginning and at the same time played a dominant role in the flirtation process.

According to this study, there were some common aspects in the way these men behave:

1. -They maintain longer eye contact with women.
2.-They showed leading conversation skills when talking to other men.
3.- They were generally louder in their interaction with other man for the sole purpose of being noticed by women.

The whole purpose of flirting is to advertise yourself. You do not want to be seen as a follower, instead try to show a leader behavior when you're noticing that a woman is watching, in that way, you are going to be seen as the more valuable guy in the group.

Remember, flirtation is only the first stage for building attraction, do it right and the next stages will be smoother, do it wrong and you'll have to seek another opportunity or stay single for the rest of your life. It's all about nature, but you can be aware of the signals you are sending. Play your cards right and you're in for a good time. Learning how to flirt is extremely important for your success with women.

How to Install a Brick Paver Sidewalk

Installing brick pavers can produce a multitude of patterns and colors, all chosen by the DIY’er. There are just tons of brick paver sizes, shapes and colors available at home centers and masonry suppliers today. Make sure you take the time to visit several sellers before picking out the final products for your walkways. Installing a paver walkway is not very difficult but does require a good deal of manual labor. If the walkway is not directly adjacent to an area that the pallets can be placed when delivered, then the amount of labor increases as you have to move the pavers over a distance to the actual work area. This is the area of work where friends can be a great help.

Start your project by laying out the walkway itself. A garden hose is an excellent tool for layout if the new walkway will have curves. Layout the hose as close to the shape as you desire and then fine tune it until it is exactly correct. Using regular lawn lime and a paper cup, mark the hose location and that will be one side of the new walk. Wash the hose and make sure you wash the lime from your hands. It is great for lawns and eco-friendly. A handy tool you will use over and over is to cut a two by four, six inches longer than your walkway is wide. It can be used during layout to assure you have prepared a wide enough area for the pavers and then as a screed board to level the base sand under the pavers themselves. Now, remove the soil, gravel, earth, etc. from the walkway area plus at least three inches on each side. You want to excavate the walkway at least two inches deeper than the thickness of the paver stones. If you want the stones to be flush with the adjoining lawn or driveway, measure the stones thickness and add two inches and excavate to that depth.

Once the excavation is completed, you will place at least two inches of stone dust or concrete sand in the bottom of the excavation. Using your two by four screed board and a carpenters level, level the sand keeping it slightly higher than what you want the finished product. Once the sand is in place, a gasoline powered mechanical tamper must be used to thoroughly compact the sand. Keep in mind that the sand will settle when compacted and additional material may have to be added across the walk to attain the final finished compacted height. You want to be very fussy when doing this work. The final walkway surface will reflect whatever defects you have left behind in the way of dips or bumps in the sand. Make sure the compacted sand/dust is at least three inches wider on each side than the finished walkway width.

Using a string line to maintain the location of one side of the walk is always a good idea. If one side is straight the other side will follow. Start laying your paver stones in whatever pattern you chose. Straight line, lap bond, diagonal, herringbone or any pattern you can think of is fine. Work across the full width of the walk and if you have a helper using a wet saw, cutting and placing any smaller pieces will greatly speed the work. As you complete an area, install a plastic brick edge retainer strip along with the supplied ground nails or stakes. Holding the retainer as tight to the pavers as possible, drive the ground nails into the ground securing the retainer strip in place. This prevents any sideways movement of the pavers. Proceed with paver installation until all pavers are installed.

Using whatever material you used as a sub base for the walkway, cast this material across the top of all the pavers and using a good stiff broom, sweep the sand/dust back and forth and diagonally over the pavers forcing as much material down into the joints as they will accept. When using stone dust, many contractors will also soak the dust making it settle even more tightly into the joints. You must now run compactor back and forth over the entire walkway surface. The compactor will not only settle the sand/dust into the joints it also pushes the pavers down into the sub base locking them into place. Use some hearing protection during this phase as it will be very, very noisy.

Once the paver compaction work is complete, go ahead and replace whatever the surrounding area materials were. If it was lawn area, topsoil and seed the disturbed areas, burying the plastic retainer strip as you proceed. A brick paver walkway will last your lifetime and will become prettier with age.

Hummingbird Houses – A Shelter For The Birds And A Delight For You

Through the centuries, bird enthusias and other people have been putting up bird houses all over the country and all over the world. These bird houses are designed to attract different kinds of birds, and they are very helpful in enhancing your bird-watching experience.

One of the most intriguing and captivating birds to watch is the hummingbird. Hummingbirds are generally found in South America, and they are the smallest birds in the world. They are the only birds in the world that are able to fly backwards. Because of these characteristics, hummingbirds are among the most watched-after creatures of bird watchers everywhere.

In order to spend hours watching this delightful little bird, you would have to be able to make it stay in the same place for a long time. You can do this by creating a hummingbird house in your own backyard. This is a bird house specifically designed for the unusual hummingbird species.

You do not need to spend a lot to put up hummingbird houses. You can even make them yourself. Hummingbird houses are small, so you can use small boxes or even tin cans for this. When building hummingbird houses, just remember that if your open hand can fit in the box, then it is big enough for the hummingbird.

In order to prevent other birds from crashing your hummingbird house, make sure that the opening is only big enough for a hummingbird.

Hummingbird houses are quite tiny, and it is rather hard to see them once they are in position. Typically, hummingbird houses are placed on the trees themselves, very near the tree trunk. However, they can also be put up practically anywhere else in your backyard, such as under the roof of your house, or on other tall plants in the garden. Just make sure that the hummingbird houses are out of reach of cats and other house pets on the ground.

The best way to attract hummingbirds, though, is to place your hummingbird houses near flowering plants. Hummingbirds like hovering near flowers because they feed on the nectar of the flower. These birds are most attracted to colorful flowers like the trumpet vine and honeysuckle.

Your hummingbird house will also be more attractive to the tiny critters if you put hummingbird nectar inside. Make sure you do not offer them sugar water because this may cause fungus on their beaks, and could even be potentially lethal to the little birds.

Summary and Review of Goleman’s Leadership That Gets Results

Daniel Goleman’s article, Leadership That Gets Results, is one of the best articles from the Harvard Business Review archives. As the noted author of the book, Emotional Intelligence, Goleman combines his expertise in emotional intelligence with research on leadership styles done by the consulting firm, Hay/McBer. Their research uncovers six distinct leadership styles. Goleman concludes that there is no one best style, but the best leaders use their emotional intelligence to determine which style will best fits their specific situation. He describes each of the leadership styles, their advantages and disadvantages, and offers some brief examples of how a leader might apply the style. Every leader or aspiring leaders should understand each of these styles and how they can be used:

Coercive Style: This is a compliance focused style that is characterized by the phrase “Do what I tell you.” Although this style works well in extreme circumstances of a crisis or turnaround, in most cases it will have a negative impact on the overall organization once the crisis is past.

Authoritative Style: This style is used by leaders who have a clear vision for the organization and can rally people by saying, “Come with me.” It is a generally a positive style and works really well when an organization that has floundered in the past can be inspired to move in the direction of a new vision.

Affilitative Style: This is a style that is used by leaders to build harmony and teamwork within an organization. It is characterized by the phrase, “People come first.” Leaders will use this style to break down silos, to build relationships, and to get people to communicate and cooperate.

Democratic Style: As the name implies, this style is used to get people to buy-in and to build consensus. It is best described by the phrase “What do you think?” It works well in professional environments where subordinates have deep expertise and access to information so that they can collaborate to make informed, consensus driven decisions. However, the democratic style can also be frustrating because it will require many meetings and discussions to arrive at a consensus.

Pacesetting Style: This style is often used by leaders who have technical expertise and can lead by example. Hence the phrase, “Do as I do, now” best describes this style. Pacesetting can achieve quick results if the team has expertise and primarily needs to be motivated; however, this style can also be de-motivating since the focus is on the leader performance and high standards. It deprives some on the team from demonstrating their own leadership and expertise, or causes others to feel overwhelmed by the fast pace and demanding standards.

Coaching Style: This style is used by leaders to develop people through coaching. Those using the coaching style will suggest ideas to subordinates with the catch-phrase, “try this.” This style works well when people are receptive to coaching, but can also require patience and a willingness to accept failure by the leader/coach when subordinates are in a learning mode.

Goleman’s conclusion that there is no one best style is supported by additional research that correlates six factors of organization climate with each of the styles. The organizational factors include: flexibility, responsibility, standards, rewards, clarity, and commitment. The research shows that the coercive and pacesetting styles have a negative correlations on organizational climate while the other four styles have a positive impact. Thus, except for unusual circumstances where coercive and pacesetting styles might be appropriate, leaders should normally use a combination of the authoritative, affiliative, democratic and coaching styles to achieve success. The best leaders will sense from their emotional intelligence when to use each of these styles. If you are an aspiring leader or a leader who wants to get to the next level of leadership excellence, Goleman’s article is a great primer on how to effectively use different leadership styles.

How to Improve Semen – Sperm Taste For Gourmets?

"Consuming pineapple or parsley helps sweeten the taste of the male sperm ejaculate. Can there be any truth to this and what other foods affect the taste, for better or for worse?"

Yes, what you eat can influence the taste and smell of your semen – sperm. This is similar to the smell of your sweat on the next day of a heavy spice and garlic full dinner.

Because the average ejaculate consistants mostly of protein, citric acid, fructose, sodium, chloride and smaller amounts of ammonia, ascorbic acid, acid phosphates, calcium, carbon dioxide, cholesterol, prostaglandins, creatine, and other minerals and chemicals which are produced by the prostate gland, Cowpers gland, testicles and many other parts of your body, but shortly by "your body", and your body can only use its stocks and what you eat as the raw material.

Of course, every body has its own formula for semen – sperm creation, but eating less meat (and proteins) and more carbohydrates, vegetables and fresh fruits may improve the taste and smell. For example parsley is a healthy plant and may help making your body juices sweeter.

In general, dairy products create the foulest tasting fluids, alkaline based foods as meat and fish produce a butter, fish like taste. Fruits and high quality alcoholic drinks are good for a pleasant, sugary flavor. Chemically processed liquors may cause an acidic taste.

The semen – sperm ejaculate of each male has a unique taste. When some men have bitter, burnt, sour and strong tasting ejaculates, some others, particularly vegetarians, may have sweet, nut like tasting semen – sperm. But in order to produce healthy and fertile sperm your body will need protein rich in zinc as well.

Strong and significant semen – sperm smell may also indicate an infection in the genital area and men must consult an urologist without losing time.

In the other hand, women also have to improve the salty and acidic taste of their vaginal secretions, but the strong and foul smell may be caused by the lack of cleanliness, better is to visit a gynecologist periodically and keep the consultation records.

Certainly your body's duty is not producing tasty semen – sperm, but healthy and fertile ejaculates. Everything healthy and good for your body is also healthy and good for your semen – sperm. Drink mild water when you wake up and keep drinking more water than you usually drink during the day! Water will help to clean your body's pipeline including your bowels, and drinking 6 – 8 glasses of water daily will help your body to detoxicate. Eat less meat, more vegetables, drink less alcohol and specifically stop smoking!

If your partner really loves you, she / he must love everything about you and your body. Do not spend your precious time to be busy with small details, learn how to be a great lover that your partner is not interested with your semen – sperm taste or smell instead.

Finally, we believe that if two people are in love with each other they will not be too disturbed even the semen – sperm taste is unsupportable, and will find a way to cover this default with condom, flavored lubricant, mouthwash … But the important question is how to produce healthy and good quality sperm, and avoid the transmission of many diseases and addictions to future generations!

Jazz Guitar Chord Solos – Robert Yelin Made It His Career!

Robert Yelin was born on September 25, 1944 in Yonkers, NY His family moved to New Rochelle, New York when he was 9 years old. He started to take an interest in the guitar at 15 after hearing some records by rock-and-roll guitar players Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley. Robert started to take guitar lessons from Gus DeGazio, a local area instructor who played him Johnny Smith's famous recording of "Moonlight in Vermont." From that point on he came to know that this was the type of music he wanted to play!

Yelin continued his guitar studies with DeGazio but now devoted himself entirely to jazz. It was at this time that Robert started his extensive collection of recordings by all of the famous jazz guitarists. He studied guitar technique and harmony for three years with Augie Lamont and advanced his jazz guitar understanding by watching the leading jazz guitarists of the day including Kenny Burrell, Jim Hall, and Chuck Wayne play in New York city jazz clubs.

By the time Robert Yelin was 18 years old he was playing solo jazz guitar in restaurants and by the time he was 20 he had decided to make a career out of music. For the next 15 years Yelin performed at many of the leading New York jazz spots like The Village Gate and Sweet Basil's. He combined this career with a day time job in the Yelin family's clothes manufacturing company. He is likewise a prolific arranger and writer on the guitar. From 1968 – 1982 he wrote over 30 articles for Guitar Player Magazine alone as well as articles for Downbeat and Cadence magazines. Starting in 1982, Robert became a professor at the University of Colorado where he taught the history of jazz and worked with the jazz guitar ensemble there.

It was also during that exact same year that Robert Yelin was diagnosed with diabetes and muscular dystrophy. The physical issues from these illnesses brought his jazz guitar playing career to an end. With a mix of excellent medical treatments and personal self-discipline, Yelin was able to start playing once more in 1996. Robert Yelin is a unique figure in the jazz guitar world. As well as being a gifted player he has one of the world's largest collections of jazz guitar audio and video recordings. His video collection has actually been an excellent source of reference to scholars and jazz guitar enthusiasts alike.

I had the pleasure of leisure spending an afternoon with Robert Yelin at his home in Littleton, Colorado when I was about 35 years old. He played some of his charming jazz guitar chord melody solos for me on a gorgeous Gibson Kalamazoo Award model archtop guitar that he owned. I immediately knew why Robert was described in jazz guitar circles as a "guitar chordiologist"! He had quite an arsenal of jazz guitar chords under his fingers to say the least. For my part, I played some Bach compositions for him on my Manuel Contreras classical guitar and he really got a kick out of hearing them!

The Many Uses of the Laboratory Refrigerator

In every laboratory around the world, there is a dire need for refrigeration. Nearly every reagent needed in chemistry analysis requires refrigeration, and some must be kept at a precise temperature to remain stable. Laboratory refrigerators are needed for this purpose, as a regular household refrigerator may not have the stable temperatures needed by the products used by the laboratory.

Most laboratory products needing refrigeration are very sensitive to certain low or high temperatures. Some of these materials can only be safely stored at a very close and precise range of temperatures, so keeping them safely stored around the clock is vital for the cost-effectiveness of the laboratory. Having a precision refrigerator is necessary for this to occur.

Simple household refrigerators are being used for simple cold storage, usually, as in the case of a medical laboratory, post-tested patients’ blood products, urine, and cerebral-spinal fluid, and for the storage of microbiological procured specimens. The refrigeration range of these common laboratory refrigerators is normally from 1C -8C, depending on the laboratory’s protocol. These refrigeration units are reliable as also storing very stable reagents, as all they need is to be under room temperature.

A precision laboratory refrigerator is needed for the storage and preservation of many laboratory products. These cooling units must have a circular-paper temperature monitoring system so any deviation can be taken into account if a material fails in its performance. A digital monitoring device, such as a microchip with an alarm system, is also a great way to assure quality of service.

Laboratory refrigeration units can come with anti-frost fans to keep moisture down inside the cooling chamber. This also allows for a drier climate for dried reagents, or materials that are susceptible to moisture contamination. Moisture detectors are necessary for these laboratory refrigerators, which can be digital or paper 7-day circular printout.

Glass-front laboratory refrigerators are very useful for storing microbiological materials such as media plates, so procurement is easier, and of inventory of supplies can be done without opening the doors. These glass doors are double to triple glazed and have a vacuum sandwiched for excellent insulation. These units are usually fan circulated for even cooling and moisture control. Media laboratory refrigerators can have excellent climate control to maintain the quality of the microbiological media.

Laboratory refrigerators come in many sizes and shapes for different laboratory needs. Bench-top styles are great for storing reagents right next to the analyzer that uses them, reducing trips to resupply the instrument. Upright refrigeration units can be used for storing many reagents and freeze-dried products, and can come with powder-coated stainless-steel racks for easy cleanup from spills. Racks can also be designed for the rotation of supplies, which is good for cost-effective inventory monitoring.

Digital monitoring with an alarm system is a standard with today’s laboratory refrigerators. Computer-controlled cooling and interface can be achieved for the laboratory information management system, so there will be no need for hand checking the temperatures daily. A mobile alarm signal can also be programmed in the high-end refrigeration units, so the laboratory supervisor on the go can be notified of an erroneous reading. Laboratory refrigerators have entered the computer age, and can be specifically designed for whatever your need is in the laboratory.
