During the summertime, nothing beats a super clean and well-waxed car. If you're like me, it can be difficult to replicate that same shine you'd expect from a professional car detailer on your own. Sometimes I think it's nearly impossible. After many botched wax attempts and countless hours scouring the internet for answers, I've come up with a compilation of best practices for attaining that high gloss shimmer and shine we've all come to expect from the professionals.

First and most importantly, make sure your vehicle is in a covered or shaded area and out of direct sunlight. Garages or carports work the best. Sunlight and heat will cause water to evaporate too quickly when washing which may lead to spotting. When you attempt to wax your vehicle, the sun will dry the wax out and ruin your shine. It may also damage your car's finish.

Next, you need to thoroughly wash your car until it is extremely clean. When I say clean, I mean clean. You're going to have to get out the bucket and the hose and scrub your car by hand. You should use a reputable car shampoo. These can be found at any auto parts or car care store. A natural sea sponge is the best option for cleaning the car. Start by rinsing approximately 1/3 of your car. Use the sea sponge to wash the rinsed area from top to bottom. Frequently wring out the sponge and soak in the soapy water bucket. When finished, rinse the soap off of the car and move on to the next section. Washing the car in sections helps prevent spotting. Use a terry cloth or chamois to dry your vehicle. Do not allow it to air dry!

Now that your car is ready for wax, you should decide what type of shine you are looking for. If you're looking to protect your car's natural shine, one thin coat of synthetic wax will do the trick. To get the showroom shine, you will need to apply a thin coat of synthetic wax with another coat of carnauba wax on top of it.

Once you have made your decision, you're ready to wax. Lightly coat the painted areas of the vehicle with a very thin layer of wax using a clean terry cloth or towel. Be sure to avoid any plastic or trim areas of the car, as the wax may not come off of these materials. Test on a small area if you're unsure. After the wax is applied, buff it out with a new, extremely clean terry cloth. If you notice any streaking, you can remove them with distilled water. Repeat this process until you are satisfied with your shine.

How to Fix System Error 5 – "Access is Denied"

System error 5 – also known as the "Access Is Denied" error – is an error which shows when you try and use the "Net Time" or "NetView" commands inside Windows. The error basically means that your system is being blocked from accessing the various files / settings / information that it needs from a network computer, and the only way it can be fixed is to make sure all the settings that are blocking it are in working order .

There are various causes of this error, which every Windows computer can become susceptible to. However, the main cause of the problem is down to the " Windows Vista User Account Control (UAC) " feature of your system. This feature is what Windows uses to control who has access to your files & settings, and it's often the case that if its not set up correctly, a PC will just block access to it. There are also other causes of problems, such as having registry errors and virus infections.

The first thing you should do to fix this error is to change the " LocalAccountTokenFilterPolicy " registry key. This is the key inside the registry database which allows Windows to control the various access options that you have. It's often the case that this key will have the wrong setting, and will surely deny you from being able to access other computers. To remedy this, it's advised you edit the registry and change the value of this key.

After you've done that, you should then look at the time on your PC. This might seem like a trivial error – but most computers will actually end up having problems if their timing is out. To make sure this is not a problem, you should look to edit the time on your system & synchronize it with Microsoft's time server.

The last steps is to clean out the registry of your system with a 'registry cleaner' application. Registry cleaners will scan through the registry database of your PC and fix any of the damaged settings that are causing your computer to run slower and with errors. If you want to fix your system, you should use one of these tools to make sure no corrupt settings are causing System Error 5. If you do this, along with the other steps mentioned in this tutorial, you should be able to resolve this error quite easily.

Book Report Project – Game Show Style

Need to do a book report? Why not make a game of it? What game you ask? Try doing a report report like the game Jeopardy. You can set up the book report information making the answers for all your information you present and ask your audience or teacher to guess the questions.

You can do easy points as the least dollar amount such as the characters and the more important points from the book or the conflicts can be the most expensive questions or answers.

Your fellow students will get into the report and your presentation a lot more. You could even offer candy or something like that as part of a reward for guessing answers correctly and the person with the most candy could use that to bet for the final jeopardy or double jeopardy questions. You could make those harder or the most important information.

This may even encourage other students to read your book if you make it enjoyable enough and very interesting for everyone involved. You will enjoy creating this project as well. If your audience or teacher will not be interactive with you for this style of book report presentation it will still work and be a lot of fun.

This may seem strange but give your answer with information about your characters. The question will be the name of the character. Describe the time the story takes place. The questions will be the actual time frame such as the 1930 time period.

You can create a poster board that shows categories about your book such as characters, location, conflicts, problems or whatever the book is about. As you talk about the answer, you could have a flap on the poster board and say here is the question and flip up the flat that reveals the question. It may not be as exciting as interacting with the class but will still be different than a normal book report.

As you so the answers and questions for each category and topic that information. This will lead through the book until the final question. This could be the double jeopardy topic.

Types of Concrete Foundations

Concrete is strong, reliably resilient, easy to mold when wet and is a cost effective raw material for building construction. In order to make a concrete slab, all you need is to prepare a wooden frame shaped in the same way as the shape you would want the concrete to take. You then excavate a hole for the foundation and place your frame inside the hole. Pour the concrete when still wet into this frame. The end result is a concrete slab. You can reinforce the slab with steel to make sure it is more robust and can withstand greater force or weight.

But even though concrete is very strong, it does have some weaknesses. In damp conditions such as prolonged wet weather, water may penetrate the concrete, causing it to crack. This means that one has to regularly check for any signs of damage to the concrete so that repair can be done immediately and cracks can be arrested before they become too large and pose a risk to building stability. When it comes to concrete foundations, there are a number of different types. But why is important for one to know what the different types are? First, it could save you both time and money in the short and long term. There are advantages and disadvantages to each and it all depends on how and where they are used.

The first type of concrete foundation is the T-Shaped concrete foundation. This is one of the most commonly used foundation types and is ideal when the goal is to support structures in areas where the ground is known to freeze. In ordinary circumstances, frozen ground exerts pressure on the foundation; but the T-Shaped foundation's unique design enables it to resist any potential damage from frozen ground. You would usually place a section of flat footing below the expected frost line and then build the walls on top. The walls are not as wide as the footings so providing that added level of support that is needed at building's base. It is the inserted T shape of the final structure when viewed in cross section that the building gets its name. The T-shaped foundation is renamed not just for its resistance to the effects of freezing ground but also to its overall stability.

The second type of concrete foundation is the slab-on-grade foundation. Whilst this type of concrete foundation is also widely used, it is often used in areas where the ground does not freeze and then there is no need for the T-shaped concrete foundation. In a slab-on-grade foundation, the slab is made as a single layer of several inch-thick concrete. You need to pour the slab thicker at the edges so as to provide a firmer foundation. You then use reinforcing rods to give extra strength to the thickened edge. In order to improve drainage, the slab should rest on a bed of crushed gravel. You can also embed a wire mesh into the concrete as this will reduce any chances of it cracking. Even though the slab-on-grade is ideally meant for places where the ground does not freeze, it can still be reinforced with insulation to prevent it from being affected by frost.

The third type of concrete foundation is the Frost Protected Shallow Foundation. As its name suggests, it is meant to counter the effects that would otherwise be caused by frost. This type of foundation has insulation placed on the outside of the foundation and utilizes heat loss from the building itself as well as the natural heat energy from the earth. A Frost Protected Shallow Foundation (FPSF) can be anywhere between twelve and sixty inches below grade. This means that it can greatly reduce your costs of excavation, making it both a good preventative and economic alternative against damage from freezing. Whilst predominately used in Scandinavian countries (there are over 1 million homes in Sweden, Finland and Norway with FPSF), there are about 5,000 buildings in the United States that have used FPSF successfully.

1. Do set up their aquarium before you buy any goldfish

Don’t buy goldfish and their home in the pet store on the same day. Instead, set up the tank with gravel, decorations and a filter in good spot (one that is quiet, away from a window or radiator, and near a power supply) and fill it with water, then switch on any pumps you’re using. It takes time for chlorine and other chemicals in tap water that can harm your fish to be expelled.

2. Do consider maturing your tank in advance

A new aquarium takes time to ‘mature’; this odd word basically means that the tank filters and gravel are capable of breaking down waste before it pollutes the water. You can buy products to start this process off from the fish store. Such ‘cycling’ usually takes about two weeks, and prevents your new fish being exposed to pollution.

3. Do stock your goldfish tank slowly

Get just two fish at first (goldfish are sociable animals) and give them a week or two in the tank before buying any more fish. This gives your tank more time to mature to deal with the increase in waste products.

The very best thing you can do to keep your goldfish healthy is to regularly change some of the water. Using a siphon tube, remove about a fifth of the water once a week and replace it with new water, preferably water that you’ve left stand overnight. Changing water like this dilutes down the pollution, and adds fresh minerals to the tank.

5. Do consider buying a filter

Many people keep goldfish in tanks without filters or even air pumps. But adding a filter will greatly improve the quality and stability of the water conditions in your tank. Even an air pump will help – the bubbling improve the oxygen levels in the water, which goldfish really appreciate.

5 things you must never do when caring for goldfish

1. Don’t keep goldfish in a bowl

Yes, some people keep their pets alive for years in a bowl, but many more lead short, unhappy lives. Goldfish are inquisitive fish that like to swim about and explore. Give them a tank at least two-foot long. Also, goldfish bowls pollute easily and the design hinders the transfer of fresh oxygen into the water.

2. Don’t overfeed your goldfish

Your fish should eat all the food you add within five to ten minutes. If there is food lying about on the floor of the aquarium, you’re overfeeding. This excess food will rot down and pollute the tank.

3. Don’t overstock your tank

An aquarium can only hold so many fish before it starts to get polluted too quickly, or before the oxygen level in the water drops. A three-foot long aquarium will hold about four fully-grown goldfish happily – you can add a couple more if you must, especially if you’ve got an air pump, but it’s not advised.

4. Don’t keep standard goldfish with fancy goldfish

Fancy goldfish, such as bubble-eyes and twin-tails, are much more delicate and slower moving than standard goldfish. You’ll have fewer problems if you keep one or the other kind in the same aquarium.

5. Don’t add a heater

Some people use heaters meant for tropical fish tanks in their goldfish tanks. This isn’t just unnecessary – it can harm the fish. They will be quite happy at normal living room temperature, and in fact would probably prefer it a bit on the chillier side!

  • Adjustable Beam Clamps – For lifting up to 10000kgs of weight and is adjustable in order to be versatile for different jobs such as lifting and pulling objects.
  • Vertical Plate Clamps
  • Horizontal Plate Clamps – Are suitable for lifting up to 3000kgs; some companies do offer to specialise the plate clamps so that heavier objects can be lifted.
  • Push Travel Girder Trolleys – The capacity of push travel girder trolleys is 5000kg
  • Geared Type Girder Trolleys – These have a capacity of up to 5000kgs and must be tried and tested.

Round slings enable construction companies to lift objects of between 1 and 12 tonne; however, you may need to make several purchases depending on your requirements, as the round slings can only lift up to certain weights.

Furthermore, the round slings are colour coordinated depending on the weight that they are able to lift. This makes it so much easier to attach the correct sling depending on the weight that is required to be lifted; a busy construction site without colour coordinated round slings could turn out to be a complete disaster.

Skates are extremely useful when it comes to moving heavy items across the floor in a safe and steady manner and is an essential when it comes to lifting gear.

There are two types of skates available:

  • Adjustable – these are attached by two skates which enable the length/width of skates to be adjustable.
  • Standard – a singular skate

Either of the skates is variable in terms of the material in which they are made from. Both standard and adjustable skates are made from one of two materials; Nylon or Polyurethane. Polyurethane skates are more expensive, but the material is of better quality and will more often than not last longer. So depending on your budget, you may opt for the better quality skate over the cheaper skate.

Olympic History Tidbits: The Marriage of Two Great Athletes

If you are envious of great athletes, you'll be interested in the true story of the marriage of two great Olympic athletes. The dominant athlete of the 1968 Olympics was Vera Caslavska of Czechoslovakia who won 4 gold and two silver medal in gymnastics. Right after the closing Olympic ceremony in 1968, she married Joseph Odlizil, the 1964 Olympic silver medalist from Czechoslovakia in the 1500 meters. Soon afterwards, they had a child.

Thirty years later, on January 24, 1997, President Vaclav Havel of Czechoslovakia granted a pardon to Martin Odlozil, the child of this marriage of two of the greatest Olympic athletes. The son of this marriage had been sent to four years in prison for killing his father. Four-time Olympic gold medalist Emil Zatopek, and arguably the greatest distance runner ever, signed a petition for the release of Martin Odlozil. Emil Zatopek spent a part of his life cleaning the streets of Prague for criticizing the Soviet Union for invading Czechoslovakia.

At the time of the pardon of Martin Odlizil, his mother, the greatest Olympic gymnast Vera Caslavska, was hospitalized at the Bohnice Psychiatric Center having been devastated emotionally by her tragic life. The father is killed by his son son born from a marriage of two great Olympic athletes, Caslavska began her fabulous athletic career as a figure skater, but at the age of 12 turned to gymnastics and placed first overall in gymnastics at the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo, also taking gold medals in the beam and the vault. In the 1965 and 1967 world championships she won every gymnastic event. She closed her career at the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City, winning gold medals in the combined exercises and the uneven bars, the floor exercise, and the vault. She also won a silver medal in the balance beam and shared a team silver.

It would seem that Caslavska would retire in glory, but there were hard times for everyone in Czechoslovakia. The Russians located Czechoslovakia and made it a puppet state. But Vera Caslavska, the great Olympic athlete, and strong-murdered person remained loyal to her native country. Prior to her spectacular performance at the 1968 Olympics, she signed Ludvik Vaculik's controversial manifesto, "Two Thousand Words." Part of the Prague Spring, the work critcized the puppet Czechoslovak government. In August, Soviet troops invaded Czechoslovakia to restore order. Prominent citizens who had spoken out, including Vera Caslavska, were subject to imprisonment. In fear of such a fate, Caslavska left the national team to hide in the small town of Sumperk.

As the Mexico City Games approached she was able to rejoin her crews by special permission of the Czech government. When she arrived home, she learned that her criticism of the Soviet Union would not go unpunished. She could not find a job, she had two children and her marriage fell apart. Her husband remained loyal to the Russian invaders, and married another woman. Vera Caslavska did not remarry, choosing to take care of her two children from her marriage to the famous Czech distance runner.

On January 3, 1970 great Olympic champion and political outcast, Vera Caslavska applied for a job with the Czechoslovakian national gymnastics team. She was told by authorities, "Come back next year, this is not a suitable time." For five consecutive years, on every January 3, she appeared in the same office, asking for the same job and was told that she would get a job only if she claimed to never have signed the manifesto against Russia. Caslavska refused. During a 1984 visit, Olympic president Juan Antonio Samaranch was told he could not see Caslavska because she was experiencing "family problems." A year later Samaranch returned and insisted on seeing Vera to present her with the Olympic Order. The authorities relented, signaling Caslavska's return to public life. Her emotional health declined making service and travel difficult, but she lived with her two children, Martin and Radka, in Prague.

How to Design a Restaurant: Aisle Space, Work Surfaces, Accessibility

Designing a restaurant can be somewhat like designing a network of roads. Tough we really consider 'traffic' in any building or structure we design, traffic inside the restaurant is more complicated and needs more attention. Aisles which are too narrow can slow down production while on the other hand, aisles which are too wide are a waste of space. We can not just guess how much space a certain aisle needs. It need some analysis. However, we can use some standard measurements food service facility designers use.

  • Major traffic aisles are aisles used for the movement of people and materials from storage to production areas or from production areas to the point of service. They require 4-6 feet (1.2 – 1.8 m) width.
  • An equipment with protruding door should never be located in a major traffic aisle that is only 4 feet (1.22 m) wide.
  • An aisle 6 feet (1.83 m) wide can accommodate a refrigerator door or other protruding equipment.
  • Single aisle with limited equipment – 2 feet 6 inches to 3 feet 0 inches (0.76 to 0.91 m)
  • Double aisle with limited equipment – 3 feet 6 inches to 4 feet 6 inches (1.1 to 1.4 m)
  • Single aisle with protruding equipment – 3 feet 6 inches to 4 feet 6 inches (1.1 to 1.4 m)

A properly designed work surface is a key factor to the productivity, and ultimately, the success of a restaurant. The worker or cook must be able to move with ease making it more effective in production. Listed below are some key points to consider.

  • In production areas, table tops are often 30 inches (760 mm) wide because the average worker can reach out only 30 inches (760 mm) from a standing position.
  • The height of the work surface must allow the worker to do different tasks without stooping over.
  • Standard work surface height used by most designers is 34 to 37 inches (864 to 940 mm).
  • Variations in height may be created through cutting boards on the table (increase height), mats on the floor (decrease height) or adjustable table feet.

Accessibility

Back Pain Caused By Track And Field

As spring arrives, many people are returning to their favorite warm weather sports. For many students and adult athletes, this means a return to track and field. It is important to educate yourself about the common injuries associated with your sport in order to guard yourself against back pain and other conditions that can take you out of competition.

A number of injuries can occur during any sport. The following describes a few common injuries associated with the various activities of track and field.

Runners

Most people, whether athletes or office workers, tend to have weaker hamstrings than quadriceps. This imbalance causes the pelvis to be pulled down in front and increases the lumbar arch. As the back arches in more, the discs in between vertebrae are compressed unevenly and the spinal joints are strained. Combined with the jolting force your body experiences as your feet pound against the ground when running, joint and disc problems become likely. Weak hamstrings are also susceptible to strains. Runners should take special care to ensure their quads and hamstrings are balanced in strength and flexibility.

Another muscle group runners should be aware of is the hip flexor group, particularly the psoas. This muscle is used when bringing the thigh and upper body closer together. The psoas connects the lumbar spine to the thigh bone and is used heavily when running. Tight, inflexible psoas muscles pull down on the pelvis and create the exaggerated lumbar arch that tight quads create. Running without regaining flexibility of the psoas will likely worsen its rigidity and exacerbate pelvic misalignment, which in turn causes lower back pain.

Regular stretching and myofascial release can help achieve muscles that are balanced in strength and flexibility. The assistance of a physical therapist is beneficial to people with sports injuries.

Hurdlers

Muscle strains are common among hurdlers, especially in the groin and thigh. Groin strain is generally a sign of either bad form or overuse. If you feel groin pain on the side of your trail leg, you may be swinging your leg out too far or too late. If the pain is on the side of your lead leg, you may be doing too many drills with the hurdles close together.

Hamstring strains are a common overuse injury acquired by hurdlers. The hamstring of the lead leg undergoes an eccentric contraction during a hurdle jump, which means it contracts as it is being lengthened by the leg’s straightening. This type of contraction comes with a high risk of muscle tearing. The trail leg works hard to push the body off the ground. Hamstring strain is a sign to stop, rest, and warm up sufficiently before practicing.

More troubling than a simple muscle strain, hurdlers have to watch out for sacroiliac (SI) joint dysfunction. The sacroiliac joints form where the hip bones meet the sacrum at the base of the spine.

Injuries to the SI joints generally occur when the muscles and ligaments that support them are weakened, torn or tightened. The tremendous forces sustained by the pelvis when pushing off the ground can, over time, destabilize the pelvis, causing significant joint pain. Proper form, adequate rest time, good conditioning and sufficient warmup time can help prevent this condition.

Throwers

Whether it’s a javelin, discus or shot put, throwers are susceptible to similar injuries. Throwers in track and field use muscles throughout the whole body to build momentum; javelin throwers run, while shot putters and discus throwers spin.

The most common throwing injury occurs to the shoulder. Rotator cuff injuries affect the set of muscles and tendons that surround the shoulder, giving it stability and allowing up-and-down and rotational movement of the arm. Repeated throwing can cause tears to the muscles or tendons.

Hip and lower back strains may also occur in throwers, particularly discus throwers and shot putters who twist their bodies as part of their throw. Javelin throwers may also strain muscles throughout the back when lunging forward to throw the javelin.

The best defense against throwing injuries is to avoid overworking your arm and back. Know your limits and take adequate rest periods between practices.

Many sports injuries can be prevented with warmup, conditioning, self-myofascial release and the willingness to give your body the time it needs to recover. Whatever your track and field activity, approach it in a way that will allow you to enjoy your sport for many years to come.

I have to face facts. I'm getting older.

The Menopause is fast approaching along with the possibility of the long arms of her hormone-deficient outriders: loss of libido, vaginal atrophy and bladder weakness.

Having had my children by Caesarean section, I'm very lucky. I do not automatically wee myself when I sneeze or laugh. However, I have noticed a lack of sensitivity in terms of my pelvic and core muscles due to having them cut and stitched back together more than once. I have also suffered a lot with frequency-related cystitis and, if my bladder is full, I am conscious that I have to really concentrate to hold on to everything when I make a sudden involuntary movement.

But, more than anything, I was worried about the effect the hormonal imbalance of the Menopause was having on my sex life.

I wanted to tighten my vagina. I wanted to retrieve the muscle tone I had just a few years ago. Investigating the subject thoroughly, I discovered that there were two ways of dealing with this problem: one, to focus on my kegel and pelvic floor exercises. Manually. Mentally zeroing in on the pubococcygeus muscle (the one that controls your wee) and squeezing, lifting and releasing it regularly every day; alternatively, taking the easier option and finding myself a device that could do the job for me.
