Learn How to Remove Egg Stains From Car Paint – Car Paint Repair

Vandalism of property is a costly endeavor not only for the recipient in damage repairs but also for the one being so destructive when they land in jail. Throwing eggs at cars may seem like a harmless prank. In fact, though it is not harmless as it leaves stains on some car paint finishes. If there is a great deal of staining it could mean having to the have, the car repainted. Now that harmless prank has turned into hundreds of dollars worth of damage.

There are some individuals that have said that Vaseline Intensive Care Lotion rubbed into the egg stain and left for five minutes then removed works well. I haven’t seen this in action so it’s hard to say how valid it is.

There are two solutions you may want to try before taking it to the auto repair shop.

Method One:

Step One

Most often what happens is if the egg happens to hit the car the wrong way if will chip the paint. So first, you need to assess the damage very carefully. If the paint is not chipped you can try this method, otherwise you need to go to method 2.

Step Two

Purchase some very high grit sandpaper and soak a strip of it in water overnight. The paper must be saturated with water.

Step Three

Sand very lightly the stained area with the sandpaper you had soaking in water overnight. Do not apply too much pressure and make sure you keep the sandpaper wet.

Step Four

Rinse the area well and dry it. You now need to use a rotary polisher. This should remove any marks that the sanding may have made. The technique you have utilized here is a smooth service that has had a clear coat melted into it.

Step Five

Now you are going to want to eliminate the swirl marks and you do this by applying a pure polish and buffing it in.

If the egg stain mark is not gone then you will have to resort to step two.

Method Two:

Fold an extra strength paper towel into a square and place it over the egg stain. Then spray the paper towel with brake cleaner being sure to keep it confined to the area of the stain. The brake fluid may removed some of the car paint so be absolutely sure not to get it anywhere except on the stain itself.

If the car is badly chipped you will need to sand it down, and then touch it up with some car paint.

Removing permanent stains from cars can be very difficult. In order not to end up having to do a full paint job you would be much further ahead to take it into a paint repair shop and have it professionally done. All too often do it yourselfers have ended up costing themselves a great deal of money thinking they could repair a problem themselves.

Ideally if there is vandalism in your area you would be wise to keep your vehicle in a shelter location if possible.

Medieval Occupations

You’ve probably had some rotten jobs in the past, but I’ll bet none of them were as bad as the jobs from Medieval times.

Rat Catcher

Not exactly the kind of eye-catching name to attract new-hires in the Want Ads. However, rat catchers were actually held in relatively high esteem by town-folks. Rats, mice and other vermin were often carriers of many diseases and afflictions. A rat catcher who could rid a town of these critters could be very handsomely rewarded. However, putting himself in unsavory locations and risking his own health went, as they say, with the territory, as he frequently would come in contact with diseased or rabid animals.

Grave Digger

This field was a growth industry during the Middle Ages as war, famine, and diseases provided plenty of “raw material” for the gravedigger. Much like the rat catcher, a busy digger could earn quite a good income.

Messenger

Hmmm, this doesn’t sound like too bad of a job. After all, how hard can it be delivering messages. No doubt, you’ve heard the term “don’t kill the messenger”. This kind of gives you a clue as to the main problem with being a messenger. Oftentimes, the delivered message was not well received. The messenger was the lucky victim of this wrath frequently leading to the death or imprisonment of the unfortunate messenger.

Miner

The need for gold or silver was hugely important for most kingdoms as a way to field their armies and expand their territories. While the wages of miners were above average, they had to work in very dangerous conditions. If cave-ins, lethal gases, and collapses weren’t bad enough, a miner would not see the light of day for two to three days at a time. They weren’t especially skilled, but the job did require a certain raw determination to overcome constant obstacles.

Leech Collector

Leeches were widely used for centuries as a medical aid. The thinking was that the leeches would suck out the bad blood from an ailing person, leaving only the good blood behind. Obviously, leeches had to be found. Enter the leech collector. Easy enough job – just wade through muddy marsh water and let leeches attach themselves to your legs. When you’ve “collected” a sufficient number, return to dry land and remove them. Ah, there’s the rub, as Shakespeare once said. Not only were the leeches constantly sucking blood while they were attached, but if not pulled off properly, their teeth were left behind, still embedded in the flesh. This condition often lead to festering, infection, and not infrequently, death. Even if the extraction is done right, the sores left behind could easily become infected. I can see the ad for this job “Work outside in the fresh air, stroll leisurely through natural water, collecting valuable animals that are used in medical treatment. Will train, no experience needed”.

Fuller

Even given the jobs described above, this may be the worst job of the Medieval times. To remove grease and other impurities from freshly woven woolen cloth, it had to be placed in a vat of stale urine and then stomped on for hours (kind of like crushing grapes only not so pleasant). Besides the obvious stench, the fuller had to be constantly alert to make sure that the whole woolen batch was evenly treated; if not, the entire batch was ruined and the process would have to start all over. That would really make me PO’d if that happened!

Petard Engineer

This job has a nice ring to it – after all, an engineer is a pretty prestigious profession. However, being a petard engineer was not so glamorous during Medieval times. A petard was a small bomb used to blow up enemy fortifications, such as castle walls or gates. The engineer’s job was to run as quickly as possible avoiding enemy arrows, all the while carrying the lit petard that he would eventually place next to the fortification (assuming he made it that far). If the fuse was a little “short” or faulty, then the petard would detonate before it was put in place, gently lifting the hapless engineer up into the air for a much better view of his surroundings. Thus the term “Hoisted with his own petard” is used to describe a situation in which a person is harmed by one’s own actions.

Treadmill Operator

No, there were no health or athletic clubs in the Medieval world. Instead, think of a giant hamster wheel attached a hundred feet or so high up on a not-yet-finished cathedral. The operator would trudge for hours, turning the big wheel which moved a winch attached to a crane which then hoisted building material. In addition to the mundane nature of the job, it was also dangerous in that if the whole assembly had been poorly constructed or sudden bad weather hit – the whole device could come crashing down. Many times, blind people performed this work since they didn’t really need to see where they were treading.

Whipping Boy

Yep, there really was a job called whipping boy. When the prince misbehaved or fell behind in his schooling, only the king had the divine right to administer punishment. But, alas, the king was often away, doing whatever kings do when not in their castles. So, no king, no punishment for the prince. But someone had to pay. Enter the whipping boy. Normally, he had been raised and educated with the prince since birth. Often, a bond of friendship developed between the two. The thinking was that since they were such good friends, when the whipping boy received punishment, the prince felt at least emotional pain for his friend.

This job seems similar to that of a fireman. A lot of sitting around, waiting, and them – bam! – you’re on the job. No word on what happened to the whipping boy once the prince became king. Maybe he became the whipping man, although that title just doesn’t really rock.

Raincoats – The Advantages And How To Choose The Best

The wet season cannot be avoided; duties and tasks must be executed as usual even during rainy days. Umbrellas are the most obvious items to have during this season as they help in keeping you dry as you go about doing what needs to be done. Whereas the umbrellas come in very handy, there are some situations where it is much better to have a raincoat than an umbrella. Raincoats come in a wide range of sizes, lengths, colors and designs and you can therefore choose according to your personal style or preferences. But what exactly are the advantages of choosing a raincoat?

· A raincoat makes the perfect choice, especially for kids who are not able to handle an umbrella very well. They just slip it on and they are dry and remain flexible.

· The raincoats offer a lot of convenience to those who need to walk in the rain but have their hands full. If you have bags to carry and cannot free a hand to hold the umbrella up, the raincoat offers you this convenience. They also prove beneficial to bicycle riders too.

· Most of the raincoats are lightweight and come with pouches so you can collapse them and pack them for easy carrying and storing. Some are so small when packed that you can slip them in your pocket or handbag to you can carry them around easily. The same cannot be said for umbrellas, especially bigger ones that you cannot stash in your handbag when not in use and you have to hold on to them everywhere you go.

· You can find raincoats that are designed to keep you warm besides keeping you dry. This is something that would be hard to enjoy when you only have an umbrella. You can choose a raincoat you feel best serves your needs during the cold and rainy season.

Choosing the best

With so many options when it comes to the raincoats, you would have to do your homework to end up with the best. One of the most important things to think about is the style of the raincoat. The options include active wear, ponchos, anoraks and trench coats. Each comes with its own features and suitability and when you consider each you should be able to make a good decision.

Breathability and waterproofing qualities of the raincoat are also very important considerations to make when choosing the best one for you. Usually, the fabrics used in making the raincoats are what will determine these qualities and you should think through before making your choice. Laminated fabrics are not just breathable but also durable compared to coated ones.

Raincoat comfort should also be considered when making a purchase. Two way zipper, mesh ventilation, mesh lining under armpits and back or inside pockets, and tailoring measurements are some of the features that will determine the comfort of your raincoat. Choose a proper fit, perfect length and features that add to your comfort when wearing.

How to Get Rid of Water Bugs From Your Swimming Pool

Hot to Get Rid of Water Bugs

Two of the most common bugs in your pool are the backswimmer and water boatman. These pests are in the aquatic insect classified under the order Hemiptera. The bugs generally are not harmful to humans, although the backswimmer in particular can deliver a painful bite. Although most bugs feed on algae, the backswimmer feeds on the water boatman as well as other bugs. None of the bugs can live outside of the water for long periods of time, so getting rid of their food supply and nesting places will stop bugs from living in the pool.

To get rid of water bugs, attack their way of living. Chlorine and shock treatments are not effective at killing them or controlling their population. In order to eliminate them, one must better understand them and their preferred environments.

Water boatmen are oval shaped bugs that do not bite. Their food source is algae and minute aquatic organisms, they eat mosquito larvae and tend to eat small aquatic animals.

Backswimmers have a streamlined body shape and DO bite (as painful as a horsefly), the backswimmer will come to the surface for air, a supply of which they carry down with them under their wings and between the fine hairs covering the underside of the body

  • both waterboatmen and backswimmers can fly.
  • both lay eggs in underwater vegetation, in the case of swimming pools, “algae”.
  • both can be found in mud at the bottom of streams, pools and ponds.
  • both NEED to come up for air, if you hold them down under water they will drown
  • water boatman swim right-side up; back swimmers swim upside down

The only way to get rid of them is to take away their food supply, for water boatmen its algae, for backswimmers its other water bugs such as water boatmen or water beetles. The first step is to balance your water chemistry of course, scrub the algae off of the sides and bottoms of pool, then add bleach or hydrogen peroxide to oxidize the algae. With no algae in the pool, the bugs cannot and will not lay their eggs! Copper algaecides, polyquat algaecides, or copper ionization systems are the most effective means of controlling algae. If algae is not present, then the waterbugs will not stay.

If you live in an area with irrigation or standing water areas, water bugs can migrate. Not only can they fly, they can crawl. By adding Borax around the pool decking, it reduces the chance of the bugs crawling from a ditch or puddle into your swimming pool. But remember, they can fly. This is why properly balancing your water chemistry is important. When they come to your pool and see there’s nothing to eat, they will leave.

If your pool does get away from you and you find waterbugs in your pool, then here is a simple treatment. At night be sure to turn off all exterior lights surrounding your pool. Put a spotlight at the deep end shining into your pool. Add 2 or 3 teaspoons of liquid dish soap into the pool where the spotlight is shining. The waterbugs will come up for air and be drawn to the light. The soap will create a protective barrier on the surface that the waterbugs cannot penetrate and will drown. Just scoop them up the next morning.

I have read in some forums BioGuard brand Back-Up algaecide tends to work well and is fast acting. This is not a pesticide by any means, However, there are reports of bugs dying off 24 hours after treatment.

Recap – being proactive and maintaining your water chemistry is the most effective way to keep water bugs out of your pool. When a population is established, one can use a liquid dish soap treatment or the Back-Up algaecide. Copper based products are some of the most effective means of preventing/controlling algae.

Pros and Cons of Targeting Federal Government For Funding of Technology Grants Non Profit

When searching for technology grants one should look at the pros and cons of targeting federal government for funding of technology grants for non-profit business. When seeking funding for programs I think that there are three advantages of targeting the federal government 1. The money is certain, 2. There is easy access to information, and 3. The larger orders, thus more profit. Whereas, three disadvantages would be: extensive bid proposal, considerable amounts of paper work throughout maintaining the contract, and the competition is great.

The first advantage that I listed is that the money is certain. If my company were to get a contract for business from the government they would be certain to be paid. It would cut out the late payment or the collections process that we currently have dealing with smaller entities or individuals. The second advantage to target the federal government is that the government may provide easier accessibility for information for its contractors through up- to- date internet sites, which you don’t always have access to with smaller suppliers. Finally, the third advantage I see is that larger orders equal’s larger profit. Securing a government contract would most likely be a substantial order and profit for our company which would be worth any hurdles we may have to jump through in the long run.

The first disadvantage I see to targeting the federal government is that there is most likely an extensive bid proposal process. We have submitted bids for local suppliers that do not even compare to the possible several hundred pages that a government proposal might contain. This would mean many physical hours invested in preparing the bid for proposal. Secondly, I think that a major disadvantage for my company if we were to secure a government bid is that there would be considerable amounts of paperwork involved in order to maintain the contract. The government is under the public eye and thus set-forth strict regulations that the suppliers must follow, which includes much paperwork! This would again, involve many hours to keep up with this obligation. The third disadvantage I believe is that the competition would be tremendous. Even though governments are asked to favor smaller businesses, I think the competition among those smaller businesses would be very great. I feel that my company would be at a disadvantage compared to other competitors simply based on the fact that first, we are not a depressed business and second that we are not a minority owned business.

Having said all this, I would advise my company leadership to “go for it”! I think they should pursue a government contract and I justify this by saying I think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages in our situation. I think the potential profit alone would justify my recommendation. However, before making that final decision to pursue, I would also recommend to my company that they review our current budget and make sure that the cost of the extra hours involved in preparing the bid proposal would be affordable even if the contract was not awarded. Then, of course, if the contract is awarded the cost of maintaining the paperwork needs to be considered as well.

Easy Elementary Science Projects – Physical Changes Science Projects

Doing easy elementary science projects with the kids can be fun and it does not only have to be done for science fairs. Kids love learning in a fun “Play” way and we can use easy elementary science projects to teach them about the wonders of science without them actually realizing that they are learning. Doing easy elementary science projects with the kids is also a great way for homeschoolers to teach the kids science. I think we must start doing a lot more “little” projects with the kids. Here are a few short fun ones to do with the kids.

Physical changes easy elementary science projects

Physical changes can happen when two substances interact or when energy is applied to one or more of the substances. In this easy elementary science projects we are going to see how substances change and then we are going to reverse the physical changes.

The salt solution physical change experiment

What you need for this science project:

  • Salt
  • A measuring cup
  • A teaspoon
  • A heatproof glass or container
  • Water

How to do this easy elementary science experiment:

  1. Pour ½ cup of warm water into your glass or container
  2. Dissolve 2 teaspoons of the salt into the warm water
  3. What happens now? The salt becomes invisible, this is a physical change.
  4. Now place the glass in a warm place and leave it for a few days until all the water has evaporated.
  5. Observe what has happened. The water evaporated and the salt was left behind in the glass.
  6. Once again a physical change took place. The salt is now visible once again.

The rock candy physical change experiment

In this easy elementary science project we are going to do more or less the same with a sugar solution.

What you need for this science experiment:

  • A small heatproof container such as a beaker
  • A piece of string long enough to hang to the bottom of the beaker
  • ½ Cup of hot water
  • 1 Cup of sugar
  • A pencil

How to do this experiment:

  1. Dissolve the sugar in the water in your beaker
  2. Once again observe the physical change
  3. Tie the string around your pencil and place the pencil over the top of the beaker so the string dangles in the water.
  4. Leave your beaker in a hot dry place for a few days and observe what happens.
  5. Sugar crystals start forming on the string, a physical change again.
  6. There you have your rock candy!

A salty work of art easy elementary science project

In this experiment we are going to have fun. This experiment can double up as an easy kids craft as you will be making a lovely painting.

In this experiment we are going to show how salt and food coloring dissolves in water and reverts back when the water evaporates. You will be amazed at the beautiful painting you will end up with. This experiment needs a little more preparation, but is well worth the trouble.

What you need for this experiment cum craft:

  • As many containers as colors you intend to use
  • Warm water
  • As many colors food coloring as you want to use
  • Lots of salt
  • Thick paper
  • Paint brushes

How to do this experiment:

Some Of The Most Common Boiler Problems That Could Be Avoided

Boiler Problems

When it comes to our home central heating system we don’t even think about it, till it goes wrong. We expect it to supply us with all the hot water we demand and keep us warm when we need it. But when it develops a fault it can cause untold problems and chaos in the home.

When it comes to boiler problems it’s not normally the boilers fault, but did you know around 90% of boiler problems are not down to the boiler, it’s normally associated with something else, so lets take a look at some of the most common boiler problems.

Losing water pressure

This maybe one of the most common problems why the boiler stops working. If your boiler has been working normally for some sometime and with no water pressure problems then the most common problem could be the expansion vessel. Most boilers now have an internal expansion vessel fitted, and this needs to be checked annually, but it seems to get overlooked.

Blocked Condense Pipe

Most of the boilers today are high-efficiency condensing boilers, should the condense pipe become blocked the boiler will shut down, this normally happens when it freezing outside. If the condense pipe runs to an outside drain, the pipe needs to be protected against the cold. If possible the condense pipe should be connected to an internal drain.

Controls

Many boiler problems are caused by the controls, IE the time clock and thermostat. It’s normally down some sort of wiring fault, It could even be down to a loose wire. Always make sure that you have a 3 amp fuse fitted and nothing higher. Should a fault occur with the wrong fuse fitted it could cause even more expensive problems.

No Hot Water

If you have a combination boiler fitted, the most common boiler problems are a partly or even blocked hot water heat exchanger. This is due to a build up of sludge within the heat exchanger. With a stored hot water system, then the problem is normally down to a motorised valve fault.

Radiators Not Heating Up

First make sure the power to the system is switched on, the time clock is calling for heat and the thermostat is set to a higher temperature than the room, check that all the radiators are turned on.

Sometimes it’s as simple as making sure everything is switched on.

Strange Noise Throughout the System

If you are starting to hear strange noises or banging from within the system, then it’s normally down to sludge and scale build up, the water flowing around the system is being restricted and this will cause the noises.

Leaking Water From The Boiler

If you ever notice water leaking from around the boiler then I would advise calling in your Local Gas Safe Boiler Service Engineer. It could be as simple as a condense pipe come loose, but it could be something more expensive.

The boiler Keeps Shutting Down

If you notice the boiler keeps shutting down, it could be due to overheating. The pump may have developed a fault and the water cannot circulate fast enough, scale and sludge though is the most common problem.

When it comes to avoiding boiler problems the most common problem is us, the user, we tend to forget the boiler until it stops our supply of hot water and central heating.

All boilers need to have a regular service, at least once a year.

When a boiler service is carried out, many things are checked, and if something needs addressing then it should be addressed and put right.

Having spoken to many of the boiler manufactures over the years, the most common boiler problems they come up against is lack of maintenance, or incorrect installation.

Heating & Air Conditioning Scam Alert – Read This Now!

As a homeowner myself and a Professional Home Inspector in the Dallas Fort Worth are for years I just had to tell somebody about some of these ideas that companies are trying to get us to believe. I hope this helps understand some of these issues.

Homeowners there are literally hundreds of products and devices being promoted everyday in the HVAC industry that claim to reduce energy or increase the capacity of AC systems by huge percentages. Do not become another victim of dishonest contractors and ideas that offer to good to be true results. Listed below are some of the most popular items going around in the business today.

1. Refrigerant and Oil Additives- The claims being made by installing these into your AC system say you will see incredible energy savings in the 20 percent range! These additions have been around for a long time. There have been hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars spent in trying to prove these claims by research laboratories. Many of the results from these tests indicate no change in system capacity or performance. If there are 20 percent points to be gained in energy efficiency then the top equipment manufactures will be doing all the promoting and selling not small independent contractors selling these miracle additives. Homeowners also need to be aware of the impact on the warranty of your AC systems. Most all of the major manufactures do not recommend anything in a refrigerant system other than the proper refrigerant and the factory recommended oils.

2. Refrigerant Management Devices-These add on devices are advertised with enough "Tech-No-Babble" that would even confuse a NASA scientist. The idea is that these devices re-align the refrigerant molecules into a rotating flow mass to reduce laminar flow and friction losses through the refrigerant piping on the liquid side of the systems. Again there have been thousands of dollars and many hours spent by testing laboratories to verify these claims and how much they could reduce your energy consumption or increase the cooling capacity of an AC system. The results are not definitive in determining that these devices can in fact improve efficiency or capacity of a system. Any under performing AC system will seem to operate better after installing one of these devices if it is not up to design conditions in the first place. The first thing that should be done is to verify the performance of an existing system and make sure that all heat transfer surfaces are clean, the proper refrigerant charge is in the system, the refrigerant is not oil registered already and there is design air flow across both the evaporator and condenser. When these items are done and in place you will see that other add-on devices are not being needed to achieve the design capacity and performance of the system.

3. Motor Mizers, Harmonic Filters, and Electrical System Stabilizers – I like to refer to them as "Little Black Boxes with Wires". These are high on my list because they are one of the most common products I have seen out there and unfortunately for many they are even being sold! These devices will gain you as advertised by some companies 26-34 percentage points in energy reduction! I have talked with many electrical engineers about these devices and they can not reduce the KW of your system by 26-34 percent period! Again if these types of devices really produced the savings that are claimed then the utility companies would be promoting these ideas and technology and installing them at no charge to the consumer to help reduce the demand on the utility grid.

4. High Efficiency Air Filters- I will no doubt catch a lot of grief about this one but I am used to it. I will start out to say here that having good clean air filters is a must for any AC system and for any homeowner. You have to understand a little bit about electrical energy and motors not to be tricked by this popular method contractors use to get into your pocket. A dirty air filter in your AC furnace will consume less fan energy than a clean one! Now you can re-read this again and it says that; a dirty air filter in your AC furnace will consume less fan energy than a clean one! This is not a typo it says exactly what I wanted it to say. The next time when you need to
change a very dirty air filter in your furnace perform this simple test. Borrow a meter that can measure the amperage of the fan motor. If you do not have one or get a friend who is an electrician and take the amperage reading on the fan motor before you change the filter. Be sure and take the reading with the fan compartment door in place like normal operation. Take a few readings and record them over a five minute time period. If you are taking these readings in the summer be sure to let the unit run for a few minutes while taking the readings to get a fairly accurate and stable reading. Now change the filter (s) and take the readings again for the same amount of time and with the fan compartment door in place. You will find that the fan energy or KW increased by some amount. Depending on exactly how dirty the filters were before changing them out will determine how much change in amperage or KW you will notice. What you may notice after changing the filters out is that the home feels more comfortable and the AC system may run less to keep the home cool. This is where the energy savings show up if there going to be any at all. The increase in air flow across the evaporator coil because of the new filters will increase the fan energy or KW, but the overall amount of time the unit runs may be reduced resulting in energy savings. This needs to be understood very clearly because there are a lot of contractors out there selling very expensive and sophisticated air filtering systems guaranteed to save you a lot of money. In my opinion the best air filter for the money are the type of filters in the one, two, or four inch thickness that are changed frequently. Make sure that the filter compartment is air tight and that the filters fit well in the filter rack or frame and do not allow air to bypass the filter. You can not go wrong with regular filter replacements and using good pleated filters. Now there is one other thing to know about air filters that is very confusing to homeowners and that is that air filters have an efficiency rating. The ability of a given air filter to remove particulate matter from the air stream is rated in efficiency by how much of the airborne particulate matter it catches by passing through the filter once. This efficiency is not to be confused with electrical efficiency or energy reduction.

5. Magnets- I guess as long as I am alive there will be someone or something that will come along every time in awhile who will make an incredible claim about magnets. In the HVAC industry I have seen magnetic devices promoted to treat water that is used in very large commercial and industrial systems instead of the traditional methods of using good science and chemistry techniques to treat water. In the residential sector magnets have been advertised to save you 20-25 percent in your gas energy bill by using them on your gas piping serving your gas appliances such as your heating furnace. By simply strapping these magnets on your iron gas piping they supposedly re-align and straighten the gas molecules in the stream of gas flowing to you your furnace before the gas reaches the burner section. Again this is just one of many devices and products being pushed on homeowners who have not been informed as to what is happening out there today. You may want to talk with your local gas utility provider as well on this one.

6. High Efficiency Capacitors- There are some contractors out there today who are selling unknowing homeowners new capacitors for their ac units because they are telling them the capacitors are out of the normal range or value for a capacitor. Do not fall for this gimmick. A capacitor is basically either good or bad and no in between condition. A capacitor will have a different reading in micro-farads based on if the capacitor is hot or cold. A warm capacitor that has been in operation will read differently than a cold one out of the box. Do not let a service technician fool you with this trick. If a capacitor fails either the fan (s) or compressor will not start. A bad capacitor is a valid reason for replacing a capacitor. But capacitors will not improve the efficiency of you're A / C system by any significant amount that you can measure or will see in a lower electric bill.

From Huge Cathedrals to Powerful Families – Ken Follett Knows it All

The two of the greatest novels produced by Ken Follett have revolved around a cathedral, despite the fact that he himself has somewhat negative opinion about Christianity. He has always been skeptical about the religion, and this is attributed by him to his efforts to be realistic while creating a portrait of the medieval church, while writing both the books – Pillars of the Earth and World without Books.

Realistic Portrayal of Characters and Events

The first book Pillars of the Earth has a hero Prior Philip, who is a very practical Christian who just wants to save people from their problems. He doesn’t promise them a better life in some other world; he tries to make their lives better in this very world. He has the kind of religious nature that Ken Follett himself admires. While writing, he doesn’t want to pretend that everything is hunky dory in the church, he thinks the church may also have its fair share of sinners, and presents the same picture. It means, he also writes about monks and priests who are corrupt and wicked. Ken Follett himself was a brought up Christian but he stopped believing when he was just 16 years old.

His Favourite Character

When asked if he has a favourite character, he mentions Gwenda in World without End. He says she falls for the most attractive boy even though she is not pretty herself, and she never accepts no as an answer. She suffers more than other characters in the book but she is not the one who ever gives up hope. The thing Ken Follett likes most about her character is her grit and determination. Readers often ask him if he would like to rewrite the end of William Hamleigh. He says in the first draft he made William Hamleigh die fairly natural death, but the editor protested saying he did pretty awful things and that he deserved a worse death.

Gruesome Scenes

Several scenes written by him have graphic sexual violence scenes, which are difficult for the readers. But Ken Follett says emotions in the mind have to have a physical resolution. For example, if there is some kind of tension between two men throughout the novel, it’s only natural they will have some physical violence towards the end of the book. The sexual scenes are also physical manifestation of mental attraction between two persons, hence they are also unavoidable. These scenes often appear unpleasant, but they are part of the story and the readers have to go through them to reach the pleasant climax.

The Name Is Bond… James Bond

Ken Follett says James Bond was his favourite character, and there was a time when he wanted to be James Bond himself, though he soon realized it was not possible because he couldn’t be six feet tall or have blue eyes. He did the next best thing which was possible and he could do better, he decided to tell stories.

The 5 Most Common Ways To Relieve Sciatica Pain

When a spinal column discs ruptures, becomes herniated, or is injured in any sort of way, there is the possibility that the disc will place pressure on the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve is the large nerve that runs from the lower back down to the legs. When the sciatic nerve becomes irritated, the symptom known as sciatica presents itself. Sciatic nerve pain can usually be relieved by:

  1. Taking Pain Killers
  2. Strengthening the muscles of the back, abdomen, and legs (most commonly known as the body's core muscles)
  3. Reducing Inflammation
  4. Healing or repairing an injury or natural degradation of the spinal column
  5. Preventing a spinal injury before it happens

Taking Pain Killers

There are multiple forms of painkillers that can be taken to help relieve sciatica pain. There are over-the-counter oral pain medications, topical analgesic solutions, and prescription medications. It is important to know the risks and common side effects of taking any medication, even when they are over-the-counter analgesics. The most common risks are:

  • Possible long term liver damage
  • Drowsiness may occur
  • Adverse reactions with other remedies
  • May be unsafe to take while pregnant

Over the counter medications may be taken to relive light to moderate pain, to reduce swelling, and to reduce inflammation. The most common over-the-counter medications are acetaminophen (brand name Tylenol), and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) including: Asprin, Ibuprofen (brand names including Motrin and Advil), and Naproxen (brand name Aleve).

Topical analgesic gels, also known as counterirritants, come in either a cream, gel or spray-on application. These solutions help stimulate the nerve endings near the top layer of skin. They often times provide a warm or cooling sensation that is intended to dull the pain being experienced. Some of these topical solutions will also help to reduce inflation if they contain NSAIDs. These topical solutions will only treat very mild sciatic nerve pain.

Opioid medications are stronger medications that require a doctor's prescription. Opioids have the potential to be very addicting, so should only be used for a short period of time. Opioids should only be taken during acute sciatic nerve pain attacks, more commonly known as flare-ups. Common opioid medicines available with a prescription from a medical physician are, hydrocodone (brand name Vicodin), oxycodone, and morphine.

Strengthening the Core Muscles

Strengthening the core muscles is arguably the best way to prevent sciatica flare-ups. When the core muscles are strong, they help the spine to remain flexible and help hold spinal tissue away from the sciatic nerve. A huge plus of strengthening the core muscles is that it does not require an expensive gym membership. Exercise and stretches can be done at home with little to no equipment.

Reducing Inflammation

Reducing the circulation and inflammation of the muscles and tissue surrounding the sciatic nerve helps to reduce the pressure on the nerve which will in turn assist in eliminating some pain. There are various ways to help reduce inflation including:

  • Hot and cold packs
  • Oral anti-inflammatory medications
  • Topical anti-inflammatory creams / gels / sprays

Although hot and cold packs do not provide immediate pain relief, they do help to reduce swelling and inflammation of the muscles surrounding the sciatic nerve. As soon as flare-up or injury occurs, a source of cold relief in the form of an ice pack, ice bag, or even a bag of frozen vegetables should be applied to the affected area in regular intervals for 2-3 days. After the repeated rounds of ice, heat should be applied to the area in short intervals to help stimulate blood flow. Heat packs, heating pads, or even warm baths can be used.

Over-the-counter oral and topical medications that contain NSAIDs can help reduce inflammation and swelling. Stronger, more aggressive, steroidal medications can be prescribed by a doctor if over-the-counter medications are not strong enough. Using either version of anti-inflammatory medications for extended periods of time come with their own risk, such as stomach and liver damage.

Back Surgery

Surgery should be considered only after all alternative treatments have failed, and the surgery has a low risk further injury. Surgery can be performed evasively or invasively. Invasive surgery usually comes with a lower success rate and lower risk levels, while evasive surgery usually requires hospital stays and long-term recovery. Only you and your doctor can determine whether surgery is a viable option to help relieve your sciatica pain.

Injury Prevention

Preventing a back injury before it happens is probably the easiest and least painful way of avoiding sciatica pain. Make sure to sit and stand using good posture, lift heavy objects properly, and avoid strenuous activities. These preventive measures will help you avoid sciatica pain before it starts. There are some injuries that can not be avoided, such as being in a car accident, but there are plenty of injuries that can. Use your head before you act and you can avoid a life full of pain.

Choosing Your Wax Heater

For therapists offering waxing there is a wide and varied range of application methods and heaters that you can choose from. Choosing the right heater is very important, the more confident you become in using the tools the faster the waxings can be completed.

Pot & Spatula

This is by far the most common form of heater and application method that is used throughout the industry. The wax is usually warmed inside some form of inner bucket, either a removable container that it is poured into, or in the tin that the wax is supplied in. It is then applied to the body using a spatula, usually a disposable single use wooden one. Although it can be a reusable plastic or metal spatula, though hygiene precautions need to be followed using them.

This method of application is the most versatile, it can be used to wax any part of the body and is the only method that is suited to the use of hot / non-strip waxes. And it can be used for applying wax to any part of the body. The heaters come in a variety of shapes and sizes, the most commonly found sizes are 500cc and 1000cc.

When choosing a heater you need to consider the types of waxes you want to use, and how much waxing you expect to carry out on a busy day. Personally I use two 1000cc heaters, one for strip and one for non-strip wax. The price difference between the two sizes isn’t that great, and the flexibility of using the larger heater is well worth the extra spend.

If you are looking to offer non-strip waxing then you must use a separate heater, you won’t have enough time to change and heat the waxes between clients. You will also find it can be beneficial to have the option to use both waxes during an appointment.

Roller Wax

A lot of the wax manufacturers now offer roller versions of their leading flavours of wax. It is supplied in plastic cartridges of either 80 or 100g. These will either have a fixed head on, that cannot be removed, or you can attach reusable heads of various sizes depending on the area of the body you wish to wax.

The complete cartridge with head is placed inside the heater to warm to the appropriate temperature. There are generally two types of heater with the first being hand held where the cartridge is placed into a heater you can also use to apply the wax. This has the advantage of helping maintain the temperature, whenever you return the heater to its stand it will continue to heat the cartridge. And it is also insulated to help keep the cartridge warm.

The second type has several chambers, usually up to six, that the cartridges are placed into. You can then remove them and use to apply the wax. You have to be careful of both the cartridge and wax temperature here. You will find that when the wax is at working temperature the cartridge is too hot to hold. You therefore need to ensure that you always have an insulated holder to put the cartridge into.

When evaluating roller wax heaters I always recommend you look for one that will hold both sizes of cartridge so that if at some point in the future you wish to change the product you use the heater will accommodate it. I personally use a three chamber heater, and use the rollers for a leg waxing. I find this really helps to reduce the amount of time required to do a pair of legs. You can quickly and easily cover a large portion of the leg before removing the hair.

Tube Waxing

Most tube waxing systems use disposable single use heads that are screwed onto a tube of the chosen wax. These tubes are then warmed in a specially adapted heater. The heads are designed to be disposed of after each client to prevent the risk of cross-infection.

The wax available for tube waxing is generally restricted to one or two per manufacturer, and you often find you can’t use tubes and heads from different manufacturers together. When evaluating systems you need to look at the sizes of heads available, do they provide a larger size for the body and then smaller ones for the more intricate areas.

As with roller systems the tube can become very hot while in the heater, it is for this reason you should always use a heat protector when handling the tubes and ensure you patch test the wax temperature at regular intervals throughout the treatment. If you are a mobile therapist systems such as tube and roller waxing offer several advantages, however my personal recommendation is to use a roller system. It is more economical and offers a wider range of waxes to choose from.

Benefits Of A Wet-Dry Vacuum Cleaner

The vacuum cleaner is perhaps the best all around cleaning tool that we can avail of today. Some vacuums are designed to clean wide spaces in a short period of time while other vacuum cleaners specialize in cleaning narrower spaces easily. Some can store a huge amount of dirt in one cleaning while some can be easily stored and carried around.

Some have multiple cleaning heads that you can replace according to what area you are cleaning and some have long extensions that you can use to reach the dust up there in the ceiling. Some can thoroughly clean hard floor surfaces while others are well equipped to suck the dirt off even the deepest carpeting.

But now, there are even more choices. Before, you can buy a vacuum and a separate wet vacuum designed to clean liquid spills. Now, you can just buy a single model that has both the functions of a dry and a wet vacuum cleaner. Cool huh? To know more about the wet-dry vacuum, I have listed some of its great benefits.

You need not be exposed to dirt

Technically, the way you operate a wet dry vacuum cleaner is very similar to the way you operate a regular one. Through the intake port, dust, dirt and even liquid spills are collected. Then, all of these collected dirt pass through a tube leading to the compartment where they would accumulate. It’s practically the same, right?

What is different however is that when you use a wet dry vacuum machine, the dirt and dust you have collected are dissolved in water inside the machine. In the case of a regular vacuum cleaner, when you dispose of the dirt, the particles will come flying and you will have to come in contact with them. But with a wet dry cleaner, the particles are already dissolved and you just have to throw the water away, so the dust would not go on flying around.

It can clean up liquids easily

The primary selling point of a wet dry vacuum machine is that it can effectively clean dust and dirt and when the situation calls for it, the vacuum cleaner can easily clean up liquid spills. However, some people think using a wet dry vacuum machine would be messy because you have to dispose of the dirt in a liquid form. Then again, the drain hoses attached to the vacuum cleaner allows an easy and clean disposal of the liquid mess. Gone are the days when wet dry vacuums are only used in commercial establishments and heavy tanks have to be lifted to remove the vacuumed liquids.

It is very versatile

The regular vacuum machine proved to be a very versatile cleaning tool until we realized we have to get a rag every time we spill something on the floor. You don’t have to do that when you have a wet dry vacuum cleaner. You can actually use it for any cleaning task you can imagine. Unlike regular vacuums, it is safe to pick up bigger dirt with the wet dry vacuum.

Aside from cleaning surfaces, you can also use the wet dry vacuum cleaner to inflate balls, mattresses and other toys that need to be inflated. You can retrieve items that have gone down the drain and you can unclog a pipe. You can use it to remove snow from your driveway and you can use it to clean the fireplace. You can forget everything else ans just invest on a really good wet dry vacuum appliance and then you’re good to go.

You can choose what size you want

People tend to think of wet dry vacuum cleaners as the really bulky machines used commercially in industries. Yes, some wet dry vacuums can be tat large but now, they come in a wide range of sizes. You can choose to have a wet dry vacuum with ½ gallon capacity or have one with a 15 gallon capacity.

Choose wisely according to the size of your house (or whatever you will be cleaning). If the area is not that large, avoid buying the ones with the greatest capacity because you will only end up with a vacuum cleaner that takes a lot of space.

You can choose to buy a hand held wet dry vacuum machine which is easy to carry and really versatile too. It is ideal for most people, even those who live in large houses, because you can use it to clean virtually anything, from your closet to the interior of your car.

How to Get Rid of Garlic Smell

Garlic is easy to grow and can be grown year-round in mild climates. In cold climates, cloves can be planted in the ground about six weeks before the soil freezes, and harvested in late spring. Garlic plants are not attacked by pests. They instead suffer from pink root, a disease that stunts the roots and turns them pink or red. Garlic plants can be grown close together, leaving enough room for the bulbs to mature, and are easily grown in containers of sufficient depth.

A large number of sulfur compounds contribute to the smell and taste of garlic. Diallyl disulfide is believed to be an important odor component. Allicin has been found to be the compound most responsible for the “hot” sensation of raw garlic. This chemical opens thermo TRP (transient receptor potential) channels that are responsible for the burning sense of heat in foods. The process of cooking garlic removes allicin, thus mellowing its spiciness. Due to its strong odor, garlic is sometimes called the “stinking rose.”

Garlic Smell Removal

* What works for onions works for garlic as well. An easy way to remove these smells from your hands is to soap them up and rub them along a stainless steel faucet or knife. It really does work but it must be stainless steel that you’re rubbing, and not any other metal.

How does it work exactly? It’s not really an exact science, but the theory says that the sulfur from the onion/garlic/fish would be attracted to and bind with one or more of the metals in stainless steel.

As such, it’s a win-win situation for the steel (which becomes even more stainless through sulfuric intervention) and your hands (which will become odorless once sulfur binds with the steel). Once the sulfur compounds bind to the steel, then the odor is removed from your fingers.

* Don’t have stainless steel utensils on hand? Squeeze the juice of lemons into a bowl. Dip your hands in the liquid concentrate for 3 minutes, then rinse off. Your hands will smell like fresh lemons instead of garlic!

* Remove garlic smell from a wooden cutting board by covering it with a thick paste made of sodium bicarbonate and a little warm water. Let the mixture sit for 15 minutes and then rinse. Baking soda is also good for deodorizing garlic-scented hands, along with a little salt and water.

* Noxzema is another product that’s effective at removing unwanted garlic scent on your hands and body. It’s a skin cleanser marketed by Procter & Gamble that contains camphor, menthol and eucalyptus, among other ingredients.

Originally developed as a sunburn remedy, it is also effective as a cure for garlic odors because of its list of odor-fighting, fragrant and medicinal ingredients.

* Get a Prozone Air Purifier; it’s good for keeping your whole house smelling fresh. Eliminate musty basement smell or cooking smells – garlic smells in particular- from your home by using this highly effective device. Unfortunately, there’s a catch to this product’s potency; it’s quite expensive.

* If you want something a little cheaper, you can try Ozium Air Freshener; it’s just a small bottle of deodorizer, but just a little goes a long way. You can get this product at most Wal-Mart branches and some car part dealerships.

Garlic Breath Removal

When eaten in quantity, garlic may be strongly evident in the garlic consumer’s sweat and breath the following day. This is because garlic’s strong-smelling sulfur compounds are metabolized, forming allyl methyl sulfide. Allyl methyl sulfide (AMS) cannot be digested and is passed into the blood. It is carried to the lungs and the skin, where it is excreted. Since digestion takes several hours, and the release of AMS several hours more, the effect of eating garlic may be present for a long time.

* This well-known phenomenon of “garlic breath” is alleged to be alleviated by eating fresh parsley. The herb is, therefore, included in many garlic recipes, such as Pistou, Persillade and the garlic butter spread used in garlic bread.

Since the smell results mainly from digestive processes placing compounds such as AMS in the blood, and AMS is released through the lungs over many hours, eating parsley provides only a temporary masking.

One way of accelerating the release of AMS from the body is the use of a sauna or through any other exercise that makes you sweat and release your bodily toxins.

* The only guaranteed way to prevent garlic breath is simply not to eat garlic; it’s a very effective method.

* Germ-induced garlic breath can be reduced by usual oral hygiene methods. Standard stinky breath solutions include regular use of mouthwash, as well as brushing and flossing teeth after every meal.

* There are also commercial bad breath medicines available that are more powerful than the usual mouthwashes you can buy in shops. These are available from your doctor, your pharmacist or the Internet.

* Some people also claim that chewing cardamom seeds has a similar effect to parsley and can work as a garlic breath remedy. Cardamom has a very strong flavor, so this might not be an option for some people.

* Knobexol is the perfect agent against garlic, alcohol and cigarette smell. This special, patented herb mix neutralizes the “smell” agent of garlic in your body. This is the determining difference to the common agents that only cover the smell.

It prevents garlic smell in your breath and from your skin. The active substances of the garlic are neutralized by a special herb mix (and are not just covered or masked by stronger, more pleasant smells!). The problem with garlic odor after a good dinner will be perfectly resolved with this phenomenal product.

Cooking Instructions For Prime Rib Roast

Have you been searching for cooking instructions for prime rib roast and still can’t find a recipe that will give you the juicy and tender prime rib roast that you deserve? The reason may be that recipes only give you the basic ingredients for cooking and not the actual cooking instructions.

Let’s start with cooking instructions for prime rib roast that begins long before the day you prepare your prime rib. First, you should choose the prime rib that will give adequate portions for each guest that will be attending your dinner party. You may have to look for rib eye instead of prime rib, some local grocery stores label prime rib as rib eye. You can ask the butcher if he would remove most of the fat from the roast that you choose. This will save you time preparing the roast. If you can not get the butcher to remove the excess fat, then you will have to trim it when you get it home. You should leave just a little bit of fat on the roast for added flavor.

The next step in your cooking instructions is to create a seasoning rub or paste. You can use ingredients such as coarse salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder and even honey. Slit the roast on top about ½ inch deep all over the top and sides. Rub the seasoning rub or paste on the entire roast, including the bottom and sides, anywhere the meat is exposed. Place in a roasting pan or baking dish with a lid. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

Most cooking instructions include using a meat thermometer and this is the best way to ensure that your prime rib is cooked to perfection and not overcooked. The internal temperature for rare prime beef should be 130 degrees Fahrenheit, for medium rare around 140 degrees Fahrenheit, medium around 150 degrees Fahrenheit and for well done between 160 and 170 degrees Fahrenheit.

For prime rib roast that is boneless the basic cooking time is for medium is a 3 to 4 pound prime rib roast should be cooked at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 23 to 30 minutes per pound, for a 4 to 6 pound prime rib roast you should cook it at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 18 to 20 minutes per pound and for a 8 to 10 pound prime rib roast you should cook it at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 13 to 15 minutes per pound. Remember, this is only an estimate and all oven do not cook the same. You should still use a meat thermometer to ensure the desired doneness.

The last cooking instructions, and maybe the most important, is to let the roast sit for around 15 minutes before carving. The roast will still cook and the internal temperature will raise another 10 degrees but this sitting time is important to hold in the juices and flavor.

How to Have a Productive Scrapbooking Crop Weekend – A Six Step Check List

Whether you are going to a scrapbooking crop for a few hours or you are going for a whole weekend, planning ahead is the key for a fun-filled and productive crop. The principles in this article work for whatever length crop you are going to. It doesn’t matter if it is a day crop or a full weekend retreat, this step by step check list will ensure you will have everything you need to have a productive time crafting!

Going to a crop or scrapbooking getaway gives you the opportunity to catch up on your scrapbooking and paper crafting backlog or try some techniques you haven’t had the chance to try at home while hanging out with other paper crafters.

Step 1: about 6 weeks from the crop date: create a cropping “to-do” list

This list is a rough draft list of projects, scrapbook layouts, cards, etc you want to do based criteria such as:

  • techniques to try
  • products or gadgets to use
  • Scrapbooking layouts to complete and/or catch up with
  • Gifts and/or cards you need to make

This list is fluid which means you will be adding to this list over the next couple of weeks. As you think of projects you want to work on, just add them to the list. Please note the list is in no particular order. As you think of things just write them down. Don’t worry about how long or short the list is.

Step 2: about 4 weeks from crop date: narrow down your project list

Most likely the “to do” list you have been working on over the last 2 weeks is pretty long and most likely you won’t be able to realistically get it all done while at your scrapbooking retreat. Therefore you will need to narrow down the list and make it more manageable. You will want to consider some of the following criteria when narrowing down your list:

  • How many hours you plan on crafting while at the retreat
  • How long it typically takes you to complete a project
  • Upcoming events (birthday parties, graduations, holidays, etc)
  • New products you really want to use
  • Techniques you would like to try
  • Pictures you really want to scrap
  • Projects that you have started and would like to complete

Step 3: about 3-4 weeks from crop date: start planning out your projects

This step may be the most difficult part because it requires that you don’t physically craft however by planning out your projects now, you will be able to scrapbook and craft more efficiently while at the scrapbooking crop event. Take your time over a week and think about the projects on your “to do” list from step 2. Sketch out your projects. Think about the papers, photos, and embellishments you would like to use. Consider if you will type or handwrite your journaling. Once you have a rough game plan for your projects then:

  • Order any reprints or enlargements that you may need
  • Order/purchase any supplies that you need such as paper, embellishments, extra adhesive, etc

Step 4: about 10 days from crop date: create project kits

After planning all of the projects on the “to do” list and purchasing any supplies that you need the next step is to create a project kit for each item on your “to do” list. Gather all of the items needed for a given project (paper, photos, and embellishments) and put them together. A 13×13 project folder works well for scrapbook layouts. The advantage to creating projects kits are:

  • Everything you need for a given project is all together in one place
  • Everything coordinates so you are not searching for that 1 item to complete the project
  • You don’t end up packing everything in your scrapping area to take with you to the scrapbooking retreat. You are only taking what you need. By taking only what you need, then you end up getting more done at the crop. That being said, you may take extra supplies with you but by following these steps you won’t end up taking everything in your crafting space.

Step 5: the days leading up to the crop date: the finishing touches

Your game plan for the 10 days leading up to the crop date includes all of the finishing touches so to speak. These steps are like the icing on the cake, which will help you be more productive at the crop.

  • Continue to work on creating project kits
  • For those layouts that will include typed journaling, type and print the journaling and then include it in your project kit
  • Coordinate with your friends so everyone is not bringing the same tools – share big items if possible such as die cutting machine
  • Confirm which items are at the help desk. At many scrapbooking crops a tool station is included with all sorts of tools you can use such as punches and ink pads
  • Make sure you have enough adhesive. Over estimate and bring more than you think you will need

Step 6: the day before the crop: packing

Use your “to do” list as your packing list as well. However in addition to your project kits, paper, embellishments and adhesive you will want to bring the following items to the crop as well:

  • light and extension cord (often times the lighting isn’t the best at crops)
  • cutting mat
  • paper trimmer and scissors
  • mini garbage can that folds flat for easy storage and transport
  • cup holder that attaches to the table so your cup isn’t on the work surface
  • your “go to” tools and supplies

By following the check list in this article and planning ahead you are sure to have a productive, fun-filled time at your upcoming scrapbooking crop retreat!
