Analysis of Shakespeare’s Sonnet 111

Shakespeare’s sonnet # 111 has a special twist as in relation to the others because of its content formatting. One could refer to this sonnet as a confessional poem. It is confessional because of certain aspects. First, the poet is in a state of lamentation regarding his misfortune and deeds. This places the poet in a different state of reference or state of mind as the human subject undergoing the corresponding grief of lamentation.

Secondly, the poet has made numerous references to himself throughout the sonnet. He uses the form of “me,” “my,” and “I” in a variety of ways throughout the poem. Note that in essence confessional poetry addresses subjects that are closed to the public, such as private experiences, trauma, death, depression, and other types of personal relationship references. However, here we find the poet using various types of pronouns in that confessional sense.

Some well-known confessional poets of this era are as follows: Anne Saxton, Robert Lowell, Sylvia Plath, and W.D. Snodgrass. Their poems were more personal and used the pronoun “I” in many instances. Confessional poetry has changed the landscape of American poetry in a variety of ways. However, before the 1950 and 1960, which is classified as the “great era” of confessional poetry, here we find Shakespeare using the confessional poetic nature in almost every line of this sonnet.

Next, one could also change the tone of the argument and state that this sonnet is self-referential. It states in the affirmative a process of direct address to the self. For example, in this state of lamentation one will find the following lines and words:

Line # 1: for my sake

Line # 2: of my harmful deeds

Line # 3: for my life provides

Line # 5: my name receives

Line # 6: my nature is subdued

Line # 8: pity me; which I were renew’d

Line # 9: I will drink

Line # 10: my strong infection

Line # 11: I will bitter think

Line # 13: Pity me; I assure ye

Line # 14: cure me

Obviously, the poet is in a deep state of confession, depression, and/or making reference to himself as a result of his lamenting state of mind. However, in the alternative we see that the poet is also seeking redemption based on his confessional language used, such as: “pity me,” “cure me,” and “wish I were renew’d.” As a result, one could classify this sonnet as one of a confessional nature from the heart, thus seeking redemption of the soul.

Bare Copper – Is There a Reason For Copper Wire Without Insulation?

There are different reasons for all types of wire and cable including bare copper. Sometimes wire has insulation and sometimes it doesn’t for specific reasons. Engineers work hard to provide a type of wire for every application out there with approvals to go with it.

Bare copper is also known as a ground wire. It is not insulated at all so it has no protection. It is mostly used in homes as a ground wire and has the best conductivity without insulation. So as long as it isn’t going outdoors then electrical contractors don’t mind using it.

Bare copper is also the base for most types of wire and cable. It comes solid or in smaller awg sizes wrapped together to equal the same gauge. Using the smaller awg sizes gives the wire more flexibility to bend around corners. You might think that you would always need the most flexible because it could only be better but that’s not always the case. Sometimes electrical contractors need it to be more stiff so they can send it a long way through conduit.

A green THHN wire is also known as a ground wire when the wire needs to be outdoors. Green calls out the fact the THHN is a ground wire and the reason for the insulation is so it has protection against moisture. It can then go outdoors and in conduit while it still acts as a ground wire. The reason for using it indoors without insulation is simply because it’s cheaper. Sometimes you might see this wire with a yellow stripe as well.

There isn’t always a ground wire in every cable. If you need one then I recommend talking to your cable sales person and making sure they know that as well. Most companies that supply wire also supply the bare copper so you shouldn’t have a problem getting it if you need it. You can usually request a specification sheet to make sure you are getting the exact cable you are looking for.

Sample Late Payment Explanation Letter

When you write a creditor to explain your late payments (mortgage, car, or credit card), the letter should state:

  • why you are late, (see paragraph 1 of the letter below)
  • how serious you are about fulfilling your commitment to them (paragraph 2 of the letter below), and
  • when you expect to be able to resume full and regular payments, (paragraph 3 of the letter below),
  • what you want from them (paragraph 4 of the letter below)
  • the financial details of your hardship (paragraph 5 of the letter below)

Below is a sample late payment explanation letter. Change it to describe your own circumstances, but make sure that you enclose copies of financial documents like: checking account statements, tax returns (past two years), all bills from creditors, all late notices, pink slip, anything else that will prove your hardship.

Re: Late Payments; Account # 12345678

Daytime phone number: (555)555-5555

I am writing to inform you of my recent financial hardship. I was laid off from my job at XYZ Company just before Christmas of 2008. I am diligently seeking other employment, but as you know, jobs are scarce in today’s economy. I have not found anything yet. Being out of work has caused me to be late on my bills.

I believe in hard work and have never been without a job for more than a few months. Until this unfortunate event, I have maintained a solid payment history with you.

My goal is to pay everything I owe. I take my financial obligations very seriously and plan to continue regular and full payments as soon as I find a job.

I expect my situation to be temporary and would like to discuss loan forbearance. I would also appreciate any suggestions you might have that would help me get back on track.

Please find the enclosed spreadsheet of my monthly expenses, as well as copies of financial documents, my pink slip from XYZ Co, and late notices I have received during my financial setback. I’m sending these to show that I am indeed experiencing financial hardship. This letter and all documents attached are true and accurate to the best of my knowledge.

Thank you for your time. I hope to hear from you soon.

Forbearance is an agreement by a creditor to reduce or delay payments for a specified period of time. Interest accrues during forbearance and will increase your loan amount. The good thing is that you will not have to pay late fees and penalties. There is no negative affect on your credit either.

A 5 "Penis Means a 5: 1 Penile-Vaginal Stroke Ratio – 6" Is 6: 1 – How Do You Get a 9: +1 Stroke Ratio?

The Penile-Vaginal Stroke Ratio is based on the length of your penis and its relationship to the vagina. So, if your penis is five inches long, by displacing the vagina upon entry, you are creating a 5: 1 stroke ratio. That is, your penis is "stroking" the displacement in the vagina five times its normal, resting amount.

With a six inch penis, you have a 6: 1 stroke ratio. Seven inches is 7: 1. What this means is, that the longer your penis is, upon its entering the vagina at the introitus (entrance) the more you will displace the contents of the vaginal interior. The amount that a penal is able to displace is directly related to her sexual pleasure.

Now, we are told that the main sensorial-perspective aspect of the vagina in regards to "feeling" is estimated, by some, to be in the first third of the vagina. So, then, how is it that by creating a larger stroke ratio, can we be causing increased vaginal stimulation? After all, do not we just need is to stimulate the first third of the vagina?

No. There are mutable-reactive stretch and deformative nerve receptors in the vagina, that are even included in its farthest depths. What these means is that these receptors are "stimulated" by changes in the physical landscape of the vagina, through deformation (light and deep pressure receptors) that respond to pressure and through stretch receptors (also a form of deformation receptor) that responds to the stretching out of the interior of the vagina.

When these types of receptors are "set off" or "triggered," it is felt by the woman as a sense of being "filled." Not just "filled," but Sexually Filled . This is usually felt, by her, as a very down-to-earth form of deeply solid pleasure.

So, the longer your stroke ratio is, the better able you will be to trigger these deformative receptors and trigger feelings of dense and solid sexual fulfillment. Penile girth is also an important aspect of this, but we are discussing penis stroke or penis' length "in regards to triggering these receptors.

Now it is easy to see why a three-inch penis is going to have less of an impact on triggering these vaginal deformation sensors and because a penis that is nine inches long will have a much bigger impact on triggering these pleasure-nerve receptors. Much bigger.

This is why "size does matter," for the more a penal can displace the interior of the vagina will directly be related to her perception of sexual pleasure. The larger the penis, the larger the displacement, and the greater the pleasure.

Men who are interested in increasing their stroke ratio have many options in which to do so through what is termed, "Penis Enlargement." These forms of enlarging the penis range from penis pills to penile surgery to penis exercising. Our experience, research, and results has totally convinced us that the most efficient, rewarding, cost-effective, and coolest method of increasing a man's stroke ratio is through penis exercises.

When men are looking to increase their stroke ratio with penis exercising, there are a bevy of different areas that can be targeted and "worked on" to get increased length results. However, listing all of these tissues and how they can be targeted would require a book, rather than a simple article like this. So, we will just cover the most basic method which is easy for most men to understand.

The penis is an appendage which is attached to the body via a complex series of ligaments, fascia, muscles, and tissues. If we can discover a way to "unlock" such tissues, we can allow the penis to extend farther upon appreciation from the body. For instance, anchoring ligaments that restrict the penis in its erective and extended phase can be stretched out, unlocked, and released to allow greater extensible lengths (of the penis) to be realized. If you think about it for a moment, you can see how this is probably done; and it's done through simple exercises that stretch, unlock, and release such structures. A man simply uses his hands to accomplish this.

Anatomists believe that at least 30% of the main suspensory ligament of the penis is still trapped inside the pelvis. So, just by targeting this ligament, penis exercising is a natural method a man can utilize to release what was naturally gifted to him by Mother Nature.

Men who are interested in increasing their Stroke Ratio, up to 9: 1+, and who want to have a more visibly penis; and one that is functionally more impressive, from a woman's sexual-pleasure perspective, are encouraged to utilize penis exercising to reach these goals.

The Exit Interview – A Valuable Tool For Reducing Turnover

The exit interview is often overlooked as an extremely valuable retention and organizational effectiveness tool. The purpose of exit interviews is to understand individuals’ perceptions and experiences and get feedback about the job the employee held, the work environment, and the organization. A well-crafted exit interview system can help reduce turnover and increase employee satisfaction and commitment.

The exit interview should be positive, relaxed, and ensure that employee leaves on a good note. It’s great PR. Some employees may even decide to return to your company at a future point in their career.

An exit interview can be conducted face to face, by telephone and/or by questionnaire. There is a new wave in outsourcing telephone exit interviews, direct-mail questionnaires, or electronic questionnaire forms. Some organizations choose to send questionnaires 1-3 months afterwards, allowing the former employee to honestly reflect on their experiences, once detached from the situation. As with 360 feedback, keeping exit interviews anonymous can provide more accurate and measurable responses.

Ask yourself the reason for the exit interview. Are there new training initiatives your company is considering? Would the results from the exit interviews help guide objectives? Exit interviews can be extremely helpful in understanding turnover rate, improving recruitment, hiring, and orientation programs.

Exit Interview Questions – Samples

Listed below are sample questions to ask departing employees. Use these questions as a guide for dialog.

1. What is your overall impression of our organization?

2. What was most satisfying about your job or what did you like most about working here?

3. What was least satisfying about your job or what did you like least about working here?

4. What would you change about your job?

5. Did your job duties turn out to be as you expected?

6. Did you receive enough training to do your job effectively?

7. Did you receive adequate support to do your job?

8. Did you receive sufficient feedback about your performance between merit reviews?

9. What would you improve to make our workplace better?

10. What was the quality of the supervision you received?

11. What could your immediate supervisor do to improve his or her management style?

Permanent Foundations For Mobile Homes – HUD 7584 PFGMH Manufactured Home Inspections Guide

When you buy (or sell) a manufactured / mobile home, many times the loan involved in real estate transaction will either be an FHA or VA loan.  However, FHA and VA will only fund the loan if you can prove that the foundation under the home is a permanent foundation.

But what is a “permanent foundation” and where do I find it’s proper definition?  Well, in HUD Publication 7584, is where you will find its definition.  The definition is quite extensive and geared, mainly, towards professional engineers.

The HUD 7584 publication is also called the HUD Permanent Foundation Guide for Manufactured Homes, or PFGMH.  It is published by the United States department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).  This 400 page manual is intended for new construction of manufactured home permanent foundations. If you have an existing foundation and are in need of a permanent foundation certification, then the existing permanent foundation shall meet the intent of the PFGMH.

A manufactured mobile home foundation that does not meet the intent of the PFGMH is considered non-compliant, and one that does meet the intent of the PFGMH is considered compliant.  Only a professional engineer licensed in the state of where the home is located can make this determination.

In its most simplistic definition, a permanent foundation will generally consist of a skirting to keep out vermin and water, footings and piers to support the home from gravity loads (such as snow and live loads), anchorage to resist lateral loads such as high winds or an earthquake, and other considerations.

The reason why a professional engineer is required to determine whether it is permanent or not, is because of the safety issues involved with a structure that houses people.  Professional engineers have the training and educational background to determine if the foundation is safe and habitable, and also “permanent” as defined by HUD.

A Simple Analysis of "In Time of The Breaking of Nations" Written by Thomas Hardy

The poem has a markedly anti-war tone. It points at the fact that the emotions and sentiments involved in wars, nation-building and nation-breaking are irrelevant in the continuing human saga of love, birth and death. The actions of the huge cast of human characters, from Napoleon down to the common soldiers and ordinary people of Wessex are subject to the ‘Immanent Will’. “In Time of The Breaking of Nations” also shows that the creators of wars and dynasties are not free. Here ‘Immanent Will’ is being suggested by the unstoppable march of time.

This is a poem where Hardy denounces the heroics of the war and dynasties against the background of human life’s eternal flow. During Hardy’s lifetime, there were two major wars which moved him much. The Boer War in South Africa and the First World War prompted Hardy to write some of his distinguished war poems. Hardy gave up all kinds of patriotic jingoism. In these poems, he avoids sentimentally and diminishes the prestige of war by placing the events of war in a universal perspective of cosmic dimension. Hardy’s treatment of war was varied and he was extremely versatile in discovering appropriate poetic forms for the expression of his views.

The poem is divided into three stanzas. In the first stanza, we get an idea that common humdrum life continues with all its rhythm. The man tilling the soil with the old horse moves on slowly, clumsily and sleepily. In the second stanza, we get another picture of common life. Couch-grass piled in heaps is set alight and a thin smoke rises without any flame. In spite of the rise and fall of dynasties this sort of human drama goes on. The third stanza portrays a mind with her lover whispering in a very intimate fashion. We are told here that the chronicles of war is forgotten but the human drama of love and passion continues unhindered.

The poem is written in a simple style. Its tone is dispassionate, detached and objective. Hardy has played the role of a distant commentator. Like a still photographer, he has presented some images to us. The readers will form his opinion from these silent but self obvious images. Though his stand against war is clear, he is not sentimental. Rather the poetic temperament is softened with a philosophical detachment. Hardy’s aim is to show the littleness of war and its creators in the background of an agricultural environment. The ultimate effect of the poem is a reasoned and dispassionate sense.

What Is a Marine Cooler?

While you were out looking to buy a cooler, you may have noticed that some coolers are labeled as “marine coolers.” What is the difference between a regular camping and picnic cooler and a marine cooler?

Marine coolers are designed specifically to be used outdoors all of the time. They therefore are better capable of resisting the effects of weather, particularly the harsh UV rays from the sun and the blowing sand and salt air by the sea. Sun, sea, and sand can make just about anything degrade given enough time so marine coolers are designed to hold up under these conditions.

In addition to having a more durable exterior, most marine coolers are also treated to better resist odors. This is because they start off the trip full of food and beer and are then later used to store fish that has been caught. While fish are very tasty, they smell, and storing fish (alive or dead) in a camping cooler will quickly have it full of an almost unbearable odor. A regular cooler could be cleaned often to remove the smell, but it is better to have a one which is better able to resist the smell to begin with.

Because they are designed to be more sturdy marine coolers have excellent insulation, allowing even the lower end models to keep ice and drinks fresh for days. However this extra insulation also makes the it heavier, so they are normally meant to be placed in one spot (such as on your boat) and left there for several days. They are not something that you want to lug around while hiking or up and down steep hills.

If you are looking for a cooler to take camping or to carry food back and forth from the grocery then a marine variety is not worth the extra expense. However if you are looking for a cooler to store your fish or to take on a long bumpy boat ride where it will be sitting in the open sun for hours and days at a time, then the marine cooler is what you need.

6 Tips For Wearing Color in Summer

As the temperature increases and the sun begins to shine, it is time to put the Parka’s and Duffel coats back in the cupboard and fill your wardrobe with your summer wear for the light nights and hot holidays.

Menswear summer fashion usually an injection of color into the pallet most men’s wardrobe. If worn right this can really make you stand out on the beach whilst retaining a look of chic and keep you looking cool all summer long. Here are my top 6 tips for guys wondering how to spice up your like this summer.

1. Wear colors that suit your natural features

Summer is a time of enjoying being out sun and showing of your natural features and the colors you wear should help bring these out and really emphasize what god gave you. For example if you have not caught the sun yet and you are still quite white, don’t strut your stuff in pastel tones that could leave you looking washed out.

2. Don’t be afraid of loud colors

If there is a time that you can wear a lime green t-shirt or a pair of purple jeans then the bright summer days are it. The trick here is not to clash them all into one mish-mash outfit and end up looking like a Childrens T.V presenter. The trick to pulling off ostentatiously colored menswear is to neutralize the other half of the outfit with a neutral color. So if you are wearing those red shorts make sure you have a white polo or v neck T over the top.

3. Get some color on your feet

Its time to put away those black brogues from the winter time and jazz up your footwear with some new shoes that compliment any summer outfit to a tee. For casual wear, why not try Reeboks latest range of retro style trainers that add a twist of color to your footwear or for formal and evening wear check out Pointers range of desert boots whose timeless look can be dressed up or down.

4. Loud patterns are a big No-No

Its not 1984 anymore! If you are desperate to mix up the pallet of your clothes and have different pattern on your shirts then make sure that they are pastel tones as this will look less like your grand mothers wallpaper.

5. Use color to enhance your facial features

By choosing colors that are right for your skin tone and eye and hair colour your can really extenuate these features.

6. Versatility is key

If you pick the right colors it can make an outfit that can be used in a number of situations. A prime example being a classic red crew t shirt, which can be worn both as a casual day time tee or under a light weight suit in the evening time to really create a smart casual outfit.

One thing is for sure with modern menswear this summer, you cannot avoid the fact that color is everywhere, from men’s streetwear to suits, designers have been injecting color into their lines and placing a twist on some classic. I hope these tips help with the problem what to wear this summer.

How To Increase My Height – The Science Behind Micro Fractures and Growing Taller

Many of you want to know how to grow taller quickly and one of the many things that you may see pop up is the term micro fractures. These are actually important when it comes down to increasing your height and if you didn’t understand them before then you will finally understand how micro fractures can help you answer the question of “how to increase my height” because knowing is half the battle right?

What Are Micro Fractures?

Micro fractures are small fractures which are made in the bone (when it comes to growing taller it is normally the shin bone). These fractures are caused by a lot of stress which the bone undergoes from exercises, carrying a heavy load constantly or just long walks around that you aren’t used to.

These can also happen to muscle (slight tears) when they too are over worked or stretched out as well.

Are They Dangerous?

They aren’t dangerous at all, micro fractures are a warning sign to you that you are over working your body, for example in running this term is known as shins splints, stress caused by running faster or for a longer distance than your body is used to. Normally you will be able to feel these if you don’t give your body a rest.

If you keep pushing and don’t rest then you will end up injuring yourself more than needed which is why rest and also diet is vital so that your body can recover and heal.

The Healing Process

The way micro fractures can benefit us is that when you don’t over train them and rest them properly whilst eating properly your body will repair them and will make them not only stronger but also longer and you can tell how this is beneficial when looking at how to increase your height.

How To Apply With Growing Taller

When it comes down to growing taller what you will want to do is go through specific exercises which are going to creating micro fractures in your shins and stretch out the thighs as well.

The main exercises which are used are sprinting and cycling but there are many others that you can use suck as kicking a punch bag and jump rope. As you can see, these all cause stress on the shin and will create all the micro fractures needed.

IMPORTANT – Rest and Diet

As mentioned before one of the things you need to remember is that your body is going to need both rest and the correct diet so that it can properly recover itself so that it becomes a lot stronger when needed to.

You should have rest days where the most strenuous activity you do is stretching out these areas of your body and you will want to make sure that you fuel your body with proteins and calcium as they are great nutrients when it comes down to strengthening bones and reducing recovery time and will help you grow taller quickly as well.

Tips When Considering Calcium Channel Blockers

Calcium channel blockers (CCBs) are used most commonly to treat high blood pressure, angina, hypertension, narrowed arteries, Raynaud’s syndrome, cardiomyopathy and arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat). However, they are also prescribed for subarachnoid hemorrhages, migraines and complications arising from brain aneurysms. These blockers work by reducing blood vessel constriction and calcium levels in the heart, allowing blood to flow freely through the vessels, thereby reducing blood pressure.

Several medications such as Diltiazem and Verapamil will also slow down the heart rate and improve heart pumping. Often doctors prescribe diuretics, beta-blockers or angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors along with this medication to treat high blood pressure.

There are two different types of CCBs: Dihydropyridine and Non-Dihydropyridine. The first type (Amlodipine/Norvasc) does not slow down the heart rate, which makes it safer for people who have already suffered heart failure or slowed heart rates; while the latter (Verpamil/Calan/Isotoptin and Diltiazem/Cardizem) will actually slow the heart, making it a suitable treatment for heart arrhythmias (abnormal heart activity.) Both types of medication are intended to reduce blood pressure and reduce the calcium levels in the heart walls and blood vessels.

The efficacy of these medications has periodically been disputed, but they remain the top considerations for people who have experienced heart failure and artery failure. Sometimes the medicines, like Nicardipine, Diltiazem, Nifedipine, Amlodipine and Verapamil, are prescribed to lower blood pressure, relax the arteries and supply the calcium rich heart muscles with blood.

Other times, combination prescriptions, like Amlodipine with Atorvastatin, are used to lower cholesterol, as well as provide the other heart health benefits. Additionally, according to the Journal of the American Medical Association, the generic forms of calcium channel blockers are just as effective as name-brand versions.

One precaution to take while on calcium channel blockers is to avoid smoking. Cigarettes increase one’s heart rate, which can interact with the CCBs to cause a rapid heartbeat or heart attack. Also, patients should not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice less than four hours after taking their medication because it may interfere with the body’s calcium absorption and excretion levels. Lastly, those on blood thinners like Plavix may not see results, as CCBs affect their efficacy. All things considered, CCBs are some of the most widely prescribed medications for heart patients.

How to Avoid the Line Extension Trap

If you follow the prevailing logic of most modern companies, you will inevitably fall into this trap. Line extension is using an existing brand name or image image and extending it to new products. Sounds like a good idea, right? Why not use the equity of your known brand to draw attention to a new product? The reason is that you tend to confuse customers as to what your brand means, and in the long run this strategy decreases overall market share.

For example, in 1978 7UP was the lemon lime Uncola with a 5.7% share of the soda beverage market. Trying to capitalize on this significant market share, they created 7UP Gold, Cherry 7UP, and assorted diet versions. Logic would dictate that with a greater product offering that they would have gained a greater share of the market. On the contrary, their sales plummeted to 4.2%. Line extensions confuse customers.

Why do so many companies use line extensions if they tend to fail? I'm not really sure why they continue to ignore the data, but here are some possible reasons:

o They do not do their homework. If companies took the time to investigate the lack of success of line extensions by other brands and companies, they might think better of the idea.

o Ego. They feel so successful with their current brand that they can carry the momentum to the next item by slapping their name on the label. They also do not think the seven keys to marketing apply to them.

o Copycats. Everyone else has line extensions so they reason that it is the proper strategy, not taking into account the number of line contracts that constantly occurs.

o Appearance of success. An insidious feature of this trap is that line extension usually has initial success. Consumers are usually curious about the new product with a familiar name and will try the new item initially, but long-term sales plummet. Some line extensions become market leaders further muddling the argument. But in those cases, it is usually because their direct competitors are also using line extensions such as Diet Coke vs. Diet Pepsi.

o Appearance of growth. Most executives are paid to come up with ideas on how to grow the brand. By concocting new versions of a brand, it appears as though they are approaching their paycheck since there are more items in the market with their brand name on the label.

o Appearance of cost effectiveness. It would seem that extending a brand would be cheaper, since the company already has a place in the mind of the consumer. On the contrary, it often costs just as many, if not more, marketing dollars to educate the public about the new product line. In many cases, brands try to reeducate their consumers about what their name means. They are changing the promises made by the original brand.

No Splashing

An example of this is V8 Splash. V8 aired a commercial where a person drinking the new line of product is shocked to discover there is no tomato-y aftertaste. After decades of advertising and millions of dollars trying to get consumers to recognize V8 as a tomato inflation, they change the rules. In my book, this is a classic example of the line extension trap, and what not to do.

Of course there are times when it is a good move to expand a company by offering more products. A better strategy is to use co-branding (same company, different brand names). Coke has found success in this area with Sprite. Imagine if Coke had named its product Lemon Lime Coke. Sounds absurd, but think of the brands that have gone that direction. There is Pepsi Blue, which I still am not sure if it is berry colored, or berry flavored and I do not really care to find out. The new Mountain Dew Code Red is another confusing moniker, why did not they just come up with a new name? But even a giant like Coke does not learn from its own success and follows with Lemon Coke. Each product needs its own image and word associated with it. If you feel you have a significant market share where you are and you need to expand into new markets, co-branding is the better route. Proctor and Gamble has built an empire on co-branded products.

Narrow Your Focus

The 20th century taught businesses the power of specialization. Line extensions go against this theory by trying to make one brand all things to all people. As the saying goes "jack of all trades, master of none." People may not realize it at a conscious level, but they do categorize and choose brands known for a particular specialty. For this reason, marketers must narrow the focus of their product. The brands that stick in the brain are those that have a narrow, sharp, and focused tip. The broader the description and lines of a brand, the less likely it is to pierce the consumer's psyche. It is helpful to picture the brand as an actual object penetrating the brain tissue of the intended receiver. Imagine the customer standing in front of you with the top of his or her skull sawed off. The squishy gleaming brain matter is sitting exposed before you. If you are using a broad, expansive tool, it will not get past the gray matter. By creating a narrow focused point, the brand is able to puncture the brain tissue. I know this is a grotesque illustration, but I bet I got it to it stick in your brain.

Beware! Before You Adopt From A Dog Rescue, You Must Know The Correct Answers For The Application?

If you are considering adopting a dog from an animal shelter or a dog rescue group, that is wonderful! Every dog adopted from a shelter or rescue group helps to eliminate despicable puppy mills and, more importantly, saves a dog’s life. Unfortunately, some dog rescue groups make adopting a dog almost as difficult as adopting a child. The first hurdle you must clear is the initial adoption application. An “incorrect” answer here will send you home in shock and empty-handed. For this reason, it is important that you read this application BEFORE you fall in love with a specific dog.

Most rescue groups–especially puppy mill dog rescues and breed-specific rescues–require that you submit an adoption application and have it approved before they will even talk to you or allow you to see their dogs in person. You will be able to look at pictures of available dogs on the rescue website; but until they have approved your application, that is as far as you can go. Fortunately, not all rescues are so terribly demanding; and by comparison, shelters are downright welcoming!

I cannot overstate the importance of this initial application! Please understand that I am an honest person. I do not lie and would never tell anyone to lie on an application. Having said that, there are certain answers that, if stated on an application, will immediately disqualify you. When you read the application, you will need to determine if any of these apply to you. Then you will need to decide how you want to handle the situation. You can try to avoid having to admit the truth, or you will need to look for a less demanding rescue group.

For the questions below, I will give you the “correct” answer, by which I mean the answer the rescue wants to read or hear from you. I will also give you answers that will disqualify you. If there is some other acceptable answer, I will state that as well. For a few questions, I will just say NOTB–None Of Their Business–or I will just tell you to go elsewhere.

Typical “Problematic” Questions:

1. How much money do you make? This is one of those NOTB questions. Supposedly, they want to make sure you can afford to adopt a dog, but I consider the only answer to be given here is “I make enough.”

(Just FYI — some rescues are actually discriminatory; and questions dealing with salary, type of home, where you live, etc. are used to weed out certain people.)

2. How much time during the day will your dog be alone?

Disqualify: All day or I work all day.

Correct: NONE. Someone is always home.

Acceptable: Not much time. I go home at lunch and my neighbor will let the dog out two or three times a day.

3. How much time will your dog have to spend outside alone?

Disqualify: All day.

Correct: None.

There is no other acceptable answer.

4. Is your yard fenced with a 5′ (or 6′) wooden fence?

Disqualify: No fence; electric fence; 4′ chain link fence. (I have not found any rescue that will accept an electric fence.)

Correct: Yes, I have a 5′ (or 6′) wooden fence.

Acceptable: This will depend on the dog. For an older small dog, a shorter fence might be acceptable.

5. Do you have children? What are the ages?

Disqualify: Baby or children under 6.

Correct: No children, or all are 10 or older.

Acceptable: Ages between 4 and 10 will depend on the dog.

6. What pets have you owned and, if you don’t still have them, state why not.

The second part of this question is NOTB! They are trying to find out if you have put any pets down or have returned any.

7. Where will the dog sleep?

Disqualify: Outdoors.

Correct: In the house, with us, in a crate.

8. Is everyone in the family enthusiastic about getting a new dog?

Disqualify: Any answer that isn’t YES.

Correct: YES.

9. Have you ever returned or given up a pet? This might be worded: Is there any acceptable reason to return a pet?

Disqualify: Yes.

Correct: Never. I would never do that.

Acceptable: This can be tricky. If an adopted animal and your current pets could not work things out, you might still be approved.

10. Have you had a pet put down?

Disqualify: Yes. Most rescues do not believe there is any acceptable reason to put down a dog. Aggression is never an acceptable reason. Severe injury or illness might be considered acceptable, but that depends on the rescue. Some believe in the “as long as they can breathe” philosophy for keeping an animal alive.

Final thoughts:

Before you get attached to a dog, read both the adoption application AND the adoption contract. If you realize that you will not get approved (small children, live in apartment, yard not fenced, etc.) or you cannot accept some of the contract requirements, then do not bother to look at pictures of their animals. Instead, look for a different rescue or go to your local shelter or Humane Society.

Puppy mill rescue groups and breed rescues tend to have an inherent distrust of human beings. Thus, their requirements are very strict. Rescues that make a concerted effort to save dogs from euthanasia at shelters are more people friendly and understand that their first goal needs to be getting these animals into loving homes.

Be patient and check websites frequently. Visit your local shelter frequently. Your perfect dog will find you!

History of Iganna Town, Oyo State, Nigeria, West Africa

History of Iganna Town

The Sabiganna of Iganna origin is traceable to Adebiyi, one of the grandsons of Oduduwa known as Onisabe.

After the demise of Adebiyi – the Onisabe of Sabe, it was the wish of the people that his son called Gandi Sabi Safa to ascend the throne of Onisabe but the kingmakers had the contrary view because he was not the heir of the Onisabe and they insisted that the first son of the Oba should succeed his father on the throne.

Consequently, Sabi Gandi and his supporter left Sabe (now in the Republic of Benin) and returned to Yoruba land, their ancestral homeland. He left Sabe with his two wives – Bolujiro and Oluorikan. Bolujiro begat Ajibilu while Oluorikan begat Alokolodo. Both Ajibilu and Alokolodo later ascend the throne of their father.

Ajibilu begat Etielu, Baya, Agunloye, Ajimati and Polajo while Alokolodo begat the Alokolodo dynasty.

In short, Gandi Sabi Safa after consultation with Ifa Oracle settled down at Iganna immediately after Ofiki river in accordance with the directive of the oracle but before he settled down, he observed a hut pitched by a man called Balako who was happy to lead him to Alaafin, the owner of the land. Gandi was pleased beyond words at the mention of Alaafin name that his father uses to tell him about before his death, that they were from the same mother.

This promted Gandi to meet Alaafin and narrated his story. Although he was welcomed by Alaafin but the Tapa war was his great concern. Gandi promised to spur his army into action to joined hand with Alaafin to fight the war and eventually won and brought the decapitated head of the Tapa King to the Alaafin.

Consequently, Gandi received the Royal blessing of the Alaafin who handed over staff of Authority known as “Opagun” and instructed him to install chiefs bearing all the titles known under the Alaafin and that is why the chieftaincy titles like Basorun (Bada), Asipa (Basipa), Samu (Basamu), Akinnuku, Lagunna, Gbonka and Agbaakin are installed by the Sabiganna till today.

In the old Oyo Empire, Iganna was known to be powerful. Then, for administrative conveniences, the descendants of Oranmiyan or the Alaafin were divided into four distinct families known by their distinctive dialects and forming the four provinces of Yoroba proper.

(i) The Ekun Otun or Western province which included all the towns along the right bank of the River Ogun down to Iberekodo. Iganna was the chief town. Other important towns were Okeho, Iseyin, Iwere-Ile, Ijio, Eruwa, Iwawun, Iberekodo, idiyan, Ibode, Igboho, Ipapo, Kisi, Ado-Awaye and Ibarapas etc.

(ii) Ekun Osi or Metropolitan province comprised all the towns east of Oyo; Ilorin, Ogbomosho, Ikoyi, being the chief town, other important towns are the Igbonas, Oro, Irawo etc.

(iii) The Ibolo province lies to the South-East of the Ekun Osi towns as far as Ede, Iresa being the chief town. Other important towns are: Ofa, Oyan, Okuku, Ikirun, Osogbo, Ido, Ilobu, Ejigbo and Ede.

(iv) The Epo (weeds) are the towns lying to the south and South-West of Oyo, the chief town of which was Oluwo of Iwo. Other important towns in this division were: Masifa, Ife-Odan, Ara, Iwo, Ilora, Akinmorin, Fiditi, Awe, Ago Oja.

Summarily, the word ‘IGANNA’ literally denotes wall fence in Yoroba language. The town is known and addressed as IGANNA and the title of the king as SABIGANNA because it captures and preserves the historical antecedents of the town on how Gandi Sabi Safa our founding father emigrated from Sabe in the present Republic of Benin as a result of chieftaincy tussle between him and his brother in the interest of peace. This accounts for why Iganna people are peace-loving till date.

History had it that Sabe was fence round with an entrance gate as it was done in the past for security reason. When Gandi Sabi Safa decided to migrate from the town with his supporters so as to avert pandemonium that could ensued because of the chieftaincy tussle between him and his elder brother after the demise of their father – Adebiyi, he considered it wise to escape through the wall fence with a ladder rather than to be declared security risk that could go out and reinforce to attack the town by security guards that man the main entrance to the fenced Sabe.

In an attempt to preserve this historical experience, Gandi and his supporters decided to name their new found land, IGANNA and the title of the king, SABIGANNA which is the coinage of SABI that climbed the wall fence (IGANNA) to escape with his supporters; SABIGANNA.

The cultural heritage of the Iganna includes the Onko dialect of the Oyo tribe. The people are predominantly farmers. Cloth weaving (Aso_Oke) is also an occupation of the indigenes of Iganna. Apart from these, trading is also one of the ancient occupations of the town. According to history, the people of Iganna do trek from Iganna to Abeokuta, Ibadan, Lagos and other neighbouring towns/villages for the purpose of trading in the ancient days.

The Iganna people dress in all known Yoroba outfits. These includes Gbariye, Siki, Dandongo, Buba and Sokoto (males), Iro and Buba (females), with Sanyan Cap and Gele to match.

Hunting is another predominant occupation of the people of Iganna. The predominant food of farmers in the Yoroba tribe are also food of people of Iganna such as Oka (Amala), Iyan (Pounded Yam), Eko jije, Eko mimu, Lanfun (Cassava flour), with Egusi soup and other vegetables.

Fishing is also a paramount occupation of the Iganna, hence, the people are described as Iganna a fie yin be lu Odo… meaning, the people of Iganna do jump into river in a backward style for swimming.

Iganna people are also warriors according to history. E.g., Tapa war, Dahomey war during Alaafin Obalokun at Oyoro.
