Using Twitter to Promote Your Silent Auction

If you are running a charity and have not started using the power of Social Media then it is time to get started. There are so many advantages to having a presence in Social Media that it would fill a book, but we are going to talk about that here, we focusing on just trying to promote your silent auction through using just Twitter, not even your Facebook Fan Page .

First thing to do is try to start the buzz for your silent auction event way before it is ever happening. Start with sending out updates to when the auction will be taking place. But the goal here is to try to keep it vague. You want to have a reason for your twitter followers to want to click on your link leading to your website. It is not enough to just put up that you have made a new blog post. It has to be intriguing and make people almost not feel complete without clicking on the link in your tweet. For example you could do something of the following:

(Your Charity) gets involved with Elves, Turkeys & Lots of Wine, What is Going ON? (put the link here)

Now from this tweet it is hard to not be curious to what exactly you are talking about. It sounds so ludicrous, that to just let that tweet go on by is not going to be easy. Anybody would want to see what is going on with this. When the person lands on the weblink you included with the tweet you will want to take them to a page that is a blog post about your upcoming Christmas gala, where of course you will probably have Christmas decor, some turkey to eat and then of course a bar. Once they get to the page there is a sense of relief to finding out it is a silent auction. However it is a great idea to have people be placed on your charities mailing list to see about further information coming out soon.

Once people start to join your mailing list you can see if they can help you with getting items donated or getting them involved one way or another. The goal here is to develop the relationship through twitter and then move them to your mailing list, where they can keep up with all of the things you will be doing at your charity event.

Another way to use Twitter once you start getting items in for your silent auction is to tweet about the items that will be on display. This might encourage people to want to attend just so they can bid on that item. While at the same time it is giving your charity more exposure for the event, while still sending out interesting tweets and not just boring everyday news.

There are many other ways to really get your charity exposure on twitter for the upcoming silent auction but you will just have to get creative. One that sees to work really well is using the power of tweetpic and doing a kind of picture diary of the setting up of the event all the way to the end of the event and breaking it down. Doing updates every day or so, people will tend to wait for your tweets if this is the case, and pictures and videos have a lot better chance of being retweeted than say regular text will ever have.

From Kitchen Hardware to Iron Balusters – Three Simple Tips for Designing Your Dream Home

Those of us who work in the home construction and design industry tend to forget how many little things there are that go into the creation of a new home or a redesign. There are design elements that have to be decided upon, from the big picture such as the overall architectural style of the home, down to the simplest things such as the type of kitchen hardware or the balusters for the staircase or deck. Recently in helping some new friends with their home project I was reminded how much there is to take into consideration in even just one area as basic as staircase design.

“Who would have known when we began designing our dream house just how many little details we would have to decide on? Did you know we spent an entire week just looking at balusters, banisters, treads and newels? I had no idea what any of these even were before we started all of this – except that my grandmother used to let us slide down the banister at her home when we were very small. But growing up in a California ranch style house all on one level, stairs were somewhat novel to me. I really had no idea of everything that goes into putting together a staircase – there is practically a new language to be learned! What exactly did we want? What kind of treads? Iron balusters? Wooden newels? It was all overwhelming.” And after listening to them for a bit longer, I understood what they meant, even I felt exhausted just from their recounting all that they’d been going through before coming to see me.

So after reminding them that this process was something they had dreamed about for years and it was something they were supposed to be enjoying as much as possible and having fun with it, they relaxed a bit and listened to my suggestions of how to proceed encouraging them to consider three easy tips that anyone taking on a home project, big or small can use.

Concentrate on one area at a time – Whether you’re starting from the very beginning with having to determine what style of architecture you want for your home or deciding on a particular element, such as my area of focus, staircase design, concentrate on that one area and work through the possibilities. With staircase design, this might mean first learning about all the different things you’ll even need to decide about. What exactly is a newel or a balustrade? Then you can get a bit more specific – what types of treads are characteristic for the architectural style we’ve chosen? Would iron balusters compliment the area of the home the staircase will lead to and from? Although you will be thinking about and focusing on one area in particular, thinking contextually about how this one area fits in with the rest of the home will not only help you to make good decisions, but will also help you uncover other questions to be addressed. The key though is to note those down and come back to them. Remember, one area at a time to keep from going into overwhelm.

Search out pictures of what you like and even what you don’t – This is a great way to help your through your decision making process. Head to the library or a bookstore and spend some time going through magazines and books until you find something that you really like. It’s again important to keep your focus narrow – look only at staircases and their elements in one sitting – don’t let yourself get distracted by chandeliers you like. If you see something you want to come back to, make a note of it so you won’t forget. Looking at particular elements in use is another option. Grab your digital camera and go look at buildings that might have iron balusters if you’re considering them or the particular type of handrails you loved the sample of but would like to see in an actual home setting. Oftentimes, vendors or builders can help you with referrals of where their work or products can be seen. Gather up all of your pictures to not only help you to solidify your vision, but to help to explain what you really want to your architects and home designers – as well as examples of what you absolutely do not want so that they really can get a visual sense of your style.

Remember your budget, but make decisions that you can live with for the years to come – Sometimes your budget as well as home size will decide from the get go for you if certain elements are not to be considered. For example, that grand balcony and sweeping staircase you saw in that Mediterranean estate on your honeymoon simply won’t work or be cost effective if you’re building a 1600 square foot 3 bedroom, 2 bath home. You’ll not only use up too much of your floor space if you go that direction, but lots of your budget as well. But that’s not to say that with a little creativity and inspiration that you can’t capture the same feel of what you loved about it and bring it to your home. The large antique hand-carved iron scroll work you admired can be emulated with today’s iron or aluminum balusters and accent pieces scaled to fit your particular staircase and home. And with the ability to shop online now for virtually any product for your home, you will also be able to find options to fit within your budget. The important thing is to capture the essence of the design style you like, even if initially it seems out of reach, so that you will enjoy living with your choices for years to come – and ideally stay within your budget.

Although these three tips may seem to oversimplify the process you are sitting in the middle of or are about to embark upon, by applying them over and over to all of your different home design decisions, particularly those you aren’t sure of, you’ll be able to focus your energy one step at a time and break down what might at times seem a daunting task. Your home is important and should reflect your style and desires. The project at hand may take time and energy, but the end result should and will be one you love and treasure for years to come, from the kitchen hardware to the iron balusters, if you just relax and take it step by step and enjoy the process as much as possible.

Apple iPod Touch 8 GB (2nd Generation) – An Honest Review

I have been a big fan of the original iPod touch and have been using one since its launch a couple of years ago. Recently, I inadvertently cracked the screen (long story) of my iPod so I got my self the new 8GB Apple iPod touch (2nd Generation). I have been using it for a couple of weeks now and not only did I notice that it has many improvements over the original model, but it sets many new standards for modern portable media players. Here is a quick look and this 2nd generation model.

Although the new model is pretty much the same size as its predecessor, its new rounded design makes it look slimmer. It retains its shiny stainless steel back that despite looks fantastic, it is a magnet for fingerprints and scratches. The new model is also a little lighter that the original

The Apple iPod touch 8 GB (2nd Generation) has a gorgeous scratch-resistant screen that display amazingly vivid visuals. It does pretty well under indoor lighting conditions where it can automatically adjust its brightness and contrasts to the ambient lights. Under direct sunlight however, the screen becomes less visible. To be fair, there are hardly any media players out there that produces good pictures under direct sunlight.

As i use the Apple iPod touch to listen to music most of the time, I was not able to adjust the volume of my music without taking the device out of my pocket and adjusting the volume on the screen. The new model has added physical volume control buttons onto it that is just heaven-sent. I am now able to adjust the volume of my music without taking the player out of my pocket or bag. There are also slight improvements in the quality of audio and video playback.

Gem Mining Vacation – Amethysts

Amethysts can be found in all shades of purple, lilac and mauve. Amethysts from Veracruz, Eastern Mexico, tend to be very pale. Amethysts from Guerrero, South-Central Mexico, tends to be very bright colored. Amethysts are also found in India, Brazil, Uruguay, Madagascar, United States, Soviet Union, Australia, South Africa and Sri Lanka.

The color of an amethyst is very unstable and can diminish with protracted exposure to sunlight. Pale amethyst gem stones may be set in a closed setting with a backing of foil to enhance it's color. The purple color of the amethyst gem stone actually comes from iron impurities within. Deep rich purple colors in an amethyst are the most valuable kind.

Amethysts are graduated, with the best-quality, the dark specimens called "Siberian," regardless of where they are from. Mid quality amethyst gem stones are "Uruguayan" while lesser quality amethyst specimens are called "Bahain." Pale amethyst gem stones are called "Rose of France."

Amethysts are actually a type of purple colored quartz. The natural abundance of these purple colored quartz, the amethyst, have made it the most widely used of all gem minerals. It is found in the form of six sided crystals or in invisible, geodes and metamorphic rocks, particularly granite and gneiss "a high grade metamorphic rock." Amethysts have a hardness rating of 7. The physical properties of amethyst vary greatly from one location to another. Experts can tell where an amethyst is from just by looking at it.

Were you or someone you know born in February? Do you just like the color violet? Are you or someone someone you know having a 6th or 33rd Anniversary? Did you know amethysts represent 6th and 33rd anniversaries? Indeed, the amethyst is the perfect gift!

How to "Hack" Your Windows 7 Administrator Password If You Forgot It

No matter if you've got Windows XP, Vista or 7; if you forget the administrator password for the system, there are very few ways to get back in again. In fact, the only two ways to regain access to your PC if you do not have the password any more, is to either reinstall the system, or to "hack" it with a special piece of software.

First, let's talk about reinstalling your system. Windows is just a big program that runs on your PC. This means that you can "reinstall" it to gain access to your computer again. However, this presents a HUGE problem – reinstalling Windows will literally wipe your hard drive and will leave your computer without any of your settings, files or programs that you had installed before. This method is not recommended if you want to keep your files / programs … and is only used by a select few people who just want to get access to their PC again.

The more robust method to regain access to your PC is to use a special piece of software, known as a 'password resetter' tool. This software basically loads up before Windows loads and then "hacks" the files inside your system that contain the password. We're lucky in that all versions of Windows keep their passwords stored in the same way, meaning that you can use one of these programs to load up onto your Windows 7 system, change the various files & folders that store the password, and allow you to log in again.

This technique is preferred by most, and is the one that will reset the password of your PC without any further problems. Of course, you could also reinstall your computer – but that would lead your system to have none of your files / settings inside. You can use the password reset software to quickly gain access to your PC again, by letting it "hack" your system's files & settings.

Ceiling Fans – Common Defects

Ceiling fans, like other home decor items need to be maintained and taken care or they can cause a lot of issues and actually imbalance your peace of mind due to lack of comfort. So, do not take this lightly as any issues with fans need to be tackled promptly.

Following are the common issues stumbled upon

  1. Quivering – Here the cause is use of a faulty attachment of blades to the rotor due to which the overall balance of the fan is lost resulting in imbalanced movement of the ceiling fan. You need to remove it from the box attachment and clamp the fan blades to the rotor.
  2. Fan speed control – The fan speed is controlled by a regulator. Now a days we have semiconductor operated regulator switches. Their performance is incomparable to that of the mechanical ones used in the past. As a result, we get very fast fan urges and not controllable. You need to change the regulator in such cases.
  3. Starting problem – This is associated with the motor quality. Using cheap fans without any guarantee on rotor windings and durability can cause the starting problems. The fans run on the Weber principle with stator and rotor parts. A slight fault and the magnetic field creation would have affected with the magnetic pole formation not taking place as required. A new rotor is required to fix this problem or change the windings. This issue can be caused by electric fluctuations as well.
  4. Corrosion of Blades – This is typically true for people staying in coastal areas where due to moisture and sea water the corrosion of blades takes place faster. This can cause the erosion of the blades resulting in poor blade angle and air circulation

These are some of the common issues that are found in case of ceiling fans and probable causes for the same have been outlined.

Sincerity – The Bridge Between a Perceived Reality and Reality – Part 1

Mark 9 In this scripture the father was concerned about his son
22 And often times it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.
23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.
24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help you mine unbelief.

What is the difference here? The father is saying I believe, but I can not shine light that is not in me. In fact the father's light understanding was only the sun in it's early light … his experience was likened to the dawn … it was all he could show but it displayed his sincerity and that was enough for Jesus. He perceived that Jesus was the healer and now his sincerity made it reality.

Our goal is to get the gap between perceived reality and reality smaller and smaller. You see me and think or perceive what you perceive, but I'm really not what you perceive … nothing ever is. I tell me kids that things are not as bad as they seem, nor are they as good as they seem. Because I know that things are not as good as they seem … I have work to do, because I want you to WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get). Hopefully somewhere in the process I become more like Christ. I must with all sincerity to see reality and not a perceived reality.

Sincerity shows up in strange ways sometimes. Tippy, was a mutt on the western Iowa farm of a family that at the time were pig farmers. With a family of nine brothers and sisters, everyone had chores. Tippy, followed the seven year old Kirby into the pig barns. The boys were always providing themselves to each other and today Kirby decided he was going to exhibit his balancing skills on the wooden wings only to fall into the pig stall with 250 pound hogs which were not shy and would have taken Kirby for dinner. The story is told that at about the same time the hog was munching down on Kirby, that the sincerity of Tippy showed up in his teeth and proceeded to do what he knew to do. Tippy, bit the hog in the bacon and Kirby was able to flee to the freedom. That's not the end of the story. Kirby was called into the ministry and to make a long story short ended up pasturing a church in Bloomington Indiana where the Essex family attended. There were five daughters … one of the girls name was Martha. She grew up in the church and became one of the faithful young people. We'll one of Kirby's single brothers visited Bloomington from Iowa where he met Martha. They swept each other off of their feet … got married and had two kids, a daughter named Linda and a son named Howi. SO, I'm here because of a dog named Tippy.

Nature has very few samples of a perceived reality.

An apple tree produces apples … an orange tree oranges, etc. The principle of sincerity is certain present here.

The first bud is the sincerity of the rest of the tree. Although it is small, it is the promise of the rest of what is to come.

The first sun ray of the morning is the sincerity of the full day.

A cloud is the sincerity of rain

The rainbow is the sincerity of God's promise and covenant.

The robin's song is the sincerity of spring

The green apple is the sincerity of summer

The orange and red leaf is the sincerity of autumn

The leafless tree is the sincerity of winter

One seed is the sincerity of the plant, one plant is the sincerity of the field, one field is the sincerity of the harvest.

Prayer is the sincerity of change

o We ask the wrong question most of the time.

o We often ask "how much do you believe?" The answer to this question would be a certain measure of knowledge or scriptural prowess.

o When really the question must be asked, "how much do you believe it?" The answer to this question would be measured by the width, height, depth of your sincerity … not knowledge.

The little boy that offered his lunch was acting from the emotion of sincerity. Sincerity feed 5000 that day with 5 loaves and two fish. The miracle was not determined by the amount of fish or bread, but by the sincerity of a little boy.

It's not how you know … how much you have in material wealth, but your sincerity and sometimes it does not take a lot of it … just be honest. Be willing to say, "I believe, but help my unbelief."

What Is ERP SAP, Exactly?

It is rather hard to pin down the meaning of ERP SAP. ERP, as we know, stands for Enterprise Resource Planning. In that case, what does SAP mean? SAP is an information technology acronym that when spelled out means Session Announcement Protocol. It is a form of announcement protocol that is employed for multicast sessions so that potential participants can be informed about pertinent session setup data. An SAP is usually dependent on the Real-Time Transport Protocol.

But there is also another way the SAP acronym is used in the IT world. SAP may also be used to mean Service Advertising Protocol which is employed so that servers linked somehow to the network will be identified through their respective addresses and services. In this case, SAP functions as a Netware protocol. Service Advertising Protocol allows the Server Information Table to function like a phonebook which would require NetWare clients to be knowledgeable about the real address of the server or service that they want before they can access it. Should the server that you want be unavailable, a broadcast packet that would indicate that status is delivered to the Server Information Structure. SAP agents are periodically informed about the status of a server every 60 seconds when a new broadcast packet is delivered. If there is no new periodic broadcast delivered in the span of 3 minutes, the server is called a downed server. The SAP agent will then eliminate the information about the server from the table, and is responsible for initiating a new broadcast with the information that that server is a downed server. This process permits SAP agents to maintain updated Server Information Tables.

A third way that you can derive the meaning of SAP is if it is used to refer to the Systems, Applications and Products in Data Processing company, derived from the name SAP America, Incorporated. This company houses the American operations of the software firm SAP AG of Germany. SAP AG is currently believed to be the dominant player in the world for business software solutions. Based on revenues, SAP AG is considered the third-largest independent software developer in the global industry as well. SAP works for six different sectors in the software industry, namely, Public Services, Financial Services, Service Industries, Consumer Industries, Discrete Industries, and Process Industries.

SAP AG does not concentrate on serving just large enterprises – it also serves small- to medium-sized companies as well. SAP AG is known to have helped introduce the ERP or Enterprise Resource Planning concept which is why the company focuses on ERP systems and ERP solutions in its array of services. In the US, SAP America competes directly with major player Oracle Corporation, with the latter even initiating legal action against SAP for allegedly illegal corporate practices conducted by SAP subsidiary SAP TN. In turn, SAP denies it has committed intellectual property theft from Oracle.

"I Carry Your Heart With Me," A Discussion of the Poem by E. E. Cummings

The poem, “i carry your heart with me,” by E. E. Cummings has been a favorite love poem and a favorite selection at weddings for many years. The poem has gained renewed interest since being featured in the film, “In Her Shoes.” It is used with devastating effect in the film’s climactic wedding scene and again to close the movie. Countless fans have been inspired to review the touching words of “i carry your heart with me.”

The Poet

E. E. Cummings was born Edward Estlin Cummings in 1894 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He died in North Conway, N.H., in 1962. Cummings earned a B.A. degree from Harvard in 1915 and delivered the Commencement Address that year, titled “The New Art.” A year later he earned an M.A. degree for English and Classical Studies, also from Harvard.

Cummings joined an ambulance corps with the American Red Cross in France during World War I. The French imprisoned him on suspicion of disloyalty, a false accusation that put Cummings in prison for three months. He wrote the novel, The Enormous Room, about his experience. Many of Cummings’ writings have an anti-war message.

Cummings was a fine artist, playwright and novelist. He studied art in Paris following World War I and he adopted a cubist style in his artwork. He considered himself as much a painter as a poet, spending much of the day painting and much of the night writing. Cummings particularly admired the artwork of Pablo Picasso. Cummings’ understanding of presentation can be seen in his use of typography to “paint a picture” with words in some of his poems.

During his lifetime Cummings wrote over 900 poems, two novels, four plays, and had at least a half dozen showings of his artwork.

Contrary to popular opinion Cummings never legalized his name as, “e.e. cummings.” His name properly should be capitalized.

The Poem

E. E. Cummings’ poetry style is unique and highly visual. His typographical independence was an experiment in punctuation, spelling and rule-breaking. His style forces a certain rhythm into the poem when read aloud. His language is simple and his poems become fun and playful.

Cummings’ poem, “i carry your heart with me,” is about deep, profound love, the kind that can keep the stars apart and that can transcend the soul or the mind. The poem is easily read, easily spoken, and easily understood by people of all ages.

The poem could almost be called a sonnet. It has nearly the right number of lines in nearly the right combination. But, typical of a Cummings poem, it goes its own direction and does so with great effect.

The poem makes an excellent love song when set to music. The outstanding guitarist, Michael Hedges, has set “i carry your heart” to music on his “Taproot” album. Hedges himself sings the lead, but the backing vocals are sung by David Crosby and Graham Nash.

More than 168 of Cummings’ original poems have been set to music.

Enjoy the words and the sentiments of this famous poem.

i carry your heart with me

i carry your heart with me (i carry it in

my heart) i am never without it (anywhere

i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done

by only me is your doing, my darling)

i fear

no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) i want

no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)

and it’s you are whatever a moon has always meant

and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows

(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud

and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows

higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)

and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)

The Basics Of Cleaning Crystal Chandeliers

Chandeliers hanging down from the ceiling make good lighting fixtures as well as a fine-looking decorative item for the place. Chandeliers come in different styles, traditional, modern or contemporary, and also have a wide range of quality and prices.

Usually, these are used for dining rooms and overhead in hallways or foyers. However, nowadays, as we become more and more innovative in designing our own homes, chandeliers can now be used to create a more exquisite look on bathrooms.

Crystal Chandeliers

Crystal chandeliers are made out of clear glass with a number of faceted sides refracting light into a shimmering array. Lead crystal is an element that polishes easily than non-leaded ones permitting a more precise and clearer facet for a more pleasing effect. Lavish crystal chandeliers make use of hand-cut polished elements with highest lead content.

How to clean crystal chandeliers

When the chandelier has more crystals in it, it requires more cleaning however, it does not necessarily have to be so tedious. Here are a few guidelines to keep the crystal sparkling at its best.

If you do not want to remove the crystal components from the chandelier, you can make use of a spray to clean it. Once you’ve sprayed the piece, wipe it off with a white cotton glove. Most crystal chandelier manufacturers suggest a solution of 1 part of isopropyl alcohol to 3 parts of water while others suggest that hot soapy water better does the trick. However, there is no requirement for a specific cleaning formula.

Never use sprays that can be bought on non-stainless steel fixtures since it may only break the frames of the chandelier.

If there is a need for a more aggressive cleaning, the crystal parts would have to be removed from the frame. After they are removed, they can be hand washed in soapy water, rinsed, and dried with cloth.

Dusting the crystal is best recommended with the use of a feather duster or a make-up brush.

How Often Should Crystal Chandeliers Be Cleaned

Generally, the crystals should be cleaned at least every six months. The frequency however depends on where the chandelier is hanged and the ease of getting the piece for cleaning. Large pieces that reach twenty feet in height can be cleaned at least once a year.

It may also depend on the location of the chandelier. Pieces that are used in kitchens need more frequent and more detailed cleaning because of the buildup of oil and grease as well as dust that sticks to the crystal components due to the moisture from the sink and stove.

Regularly cleaning your crystal chandelier will keep the piece looking great and sparkling. But if it’s neglected, it will take more than just the basics to have it look good as new again.

Weight Lifting Gloves – Don’t Lift Weights Without Them

Before lifting another heavy barbell, you better have weight lifting gloves in handy. These are designed to prevent injuries to your hand bones and muscles when lifting heavy loads. Aside from that, they help prevent minor injuries like calluses, swelling, and blisters. In short, they protect your hands during weight training.

Characteristics of the glove

Weight lifting gloves are usually designed to cover the whole palm but leaving the fingers exposed. Pick out a solid pair made from comfortable fabric that allows sweat from your hands to evaporate. The fabric should also provide you with a good or better grip to prevent slipping and unnecessary injuries from freak accidents caused by improper use of free weights.

Pick out your glove

There are three types of weight lifting gloves you can choose from made of different fabrics like nylon, leather and neoprene.

Neoprene is a tough synthetic fabric and is usually breathable and lightweight but still provides an excellent grip. Nylon is light and durable but not necessarily breathable. Be careful in choosing nylon because some varieties are slippery and smooth, making it hard to gain a proper grip on the free weights. Leather, on the other hand, is made of sheepskin, goat skin or synthetic leather. Leather gloves are lined with nylon or spandex at the edges and are heavier compared to nylon and neoprene. However, they prove to be more durable and lasts longer than the two aforementioned varieties.

If the glove fits…

Your gloves should have a snug fit but is still comfortable for your hands, allowing blood circulation and movement for your fingers. Make sure there is appropriate padding made of soft and breathable material. Sweating is normal during workout so pick gloves with absorbent fabric.
