How To Estimate How Many Solar Panels You Need To Power Your Home

Thinking of installing solar panels? The first step is to estimate how many solar electric (or photovoltaic, PV) panels you will need to generate the electricity you need.

Step 1 – How Much Electricity Do You Use?

You will need to know how much energy your household currently consumes or plans to consume.

One way to do this is to take an inventory of the wattage requirements of all of your electrical equipment and fittings. Multiply the total wattage requirement by the total number of hours you use your electrical equipment ..

A much simpler alternative is to use copies of your electric bills for the past 12 months.

Add up the number of kilowatts used each month, or simply use the most recent cumulative year end total. If you do not have copies of your bills, your utility company will typically provide you with the figures, but may charge you ..

Divide total kilowatts used during the year by 365 to get average daily kilowatts used.

Step 2 – Convert Kilowatts To Watts

Then to convert kilowatts into watts, divide the daily kilowatts used by 1,000. Now you have the average number of watts your household uses daily.

Step 3 – How Much Electricity Do You Want From Solar?

Multiply the daily watts used by your household by the percentage of total electricity that you want to replace with solar.

So, if you want to replace 25% of your electrical needs with solar, then multiply by 0.25. If you want to be able to supply 100%, so that you use grid electricity only for backup, then multiply by 1.00. This number is the average daily total watts of electricity to want your solar energy system to deliver.

Step 4 – Adjust For Solar Insolation To Your Site

Divide by the solar insolation value. You will need the to find the "solar insolation values" for your geographical location.

The "solar insolation value" is a measure of the amount of sunlight that actually reaches your site. The angles of the Sun's rays hitting Seattle at noon are different from their angles hitting San Diego at noon. Correspondingly, the Sun divers different amounts of solar energy at each location.

To find insolation values for the United States, use the maps by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.Look for the PV Solar Radiation Static Maps that show monthly averages. Using a yearly average will give you incorrect values for the summer and winter extreme temperatures.) For other countries, search for "solar maps", "insolation maps", or "solar radiation maps" + the country's name.

Use the minimum monthly insolation value – December's for the United States. Your estimate will then be based on the least amount of the Sun's energy available at your location.

Now divide the average daily total watts of electricity you want your solar energy system to deliver (the number from step 1), by the solar insolation value for your site.

This gives you a preliminary estimate of the number of watts of electricity your solar panels will need to generate.

Step 5 – Adjust For System Inefficiencies

Now multiply the number of watts from the last step (step 2) by 120%, or (1.2). This will give you a 20% allowance for power loss which will occur as the electricity from your solar panels makes its way through the system. No system is 100% efficient. This number is your final estimate of the total amount of energy in watts that your solar electric system will need to deliver.

Step 6 – Adjust For Your Solar Panel Specs

Now divide your final wattage requirements (from step 3) by the peak wattage of the solar panel you plan to buy.

You can get this number form the solar panel manufacturer. If you are shopping online, look for a spec labeled "maximum power" or something similar, and expressed in watts.

Step 7 – Round Up For Total

Round the result to the next highest number (for example, round 5.3 to 6 solar panels) to get the approximate number of solar panels you will need to buy.

How To Start Building Your Own 10 X 12 Storage Shed

When people think of outdoor storage sheds to store all of their outdoor equipment, usually what they tend to do is to pick the simplest and easiest method, like constructing a ready to assemble shed kit, but they really do not consider the other alternatives available to them. What a lot of people do not realize is that building and designing your own shed is not as difficult as it may seem on the surface.

One of the great things about creating your own 10 X 12 shed a part from all the work involved is that you are able to control your material costs which is a big bonus, but more than that you get what you really want at the end of the day, which is not possible with ready to assemble shed kits. The only real difference to constructing your own shed is that pre-made shed kits come with all the material required for the job. Having said that, the material can be less robust than if you source the material yourself. This is primarily due to the manufacturer trying to cut costs to increase their profit margins.

So if you have made the decision to build your own 10 X 12 storage shipped then the first thing you will need to do is to look for shed plans. You can find a number of these type of plans scattered all over the internet, and you can also find them at you local hardware store. Try and collate as many of these types of plans as possible to give you an idea of what is not only possible, but realistic. Hopefully from this type of research it will help you to decide on a direction as far as design goes.

Now once you have decided on what design you are going with, the next thing to do is to take into account your neighbors. You will be making a lot of noise and in some cases this could be a problem where neighbors are concerned. So just let them know what you are going to be doing and tell them it will only be in the short-term. In some cases, depending on how big you want to make your shed, you will need to talk with local building regulators and city council to ensure your design is going to fit in with legal guidelines and building regulations in your area.

The next thing to consider is how much material will be needed to complete the project. You also need to take into account the standard sizes the timber is pre-cut to. Ask any builder and they know exactly what the standard length of a 2 by 4 plank of wood would be. Meaning, there are standard cuts that the building industry like to adhere to. This is not a big deal, however it can save on wood waste if you knew what the standards sizes were. You can get this information from your local hardware store. You can also source your building materials there too, however try to source your building materials from larger timber suppliers, because they often deal in larger qualities of timber and as a result can offer a more competitive price than your local hardware store in many cases.

Once you have gotten these preliminary tasks out-of-the-way, you can get on with the fun part of constructing your own 10 X 12 storage shed.

The Cleanest Pets For Your Home

To their owners, pets are a source of companionship, comfort and love. They become a part of the family. Some are house pets and some live outside. When deciding to get a house pet, cleanliness should definitely be considered.

Someone is going to be responsible for keeping the pet and its area clean and so finding out what pets are the cleanest is one step in making a choice.

Cats

Not many people would argue with the fact that cat’s are clean. They are constantly bathing themselves and they use a litter box for their bodily functions. Unless the cat refuses to be trained to a litter box, they are very clean pets.

The downside to cats is hairballs and shedding. Hairballs are accumulations of hair that builds up due to the constant bathing a cat does. Eventually the cat will regurgitate them, not a pretty site and quite gross to clean up. Shedding isn’t gross, just a nuisance because it gets on clothing, furniture and helps create dust bunnies.

Another factor that plays against the cat is their curiosity. Cats are notoriously nosey and their ability to jump combined with their curiosity is a mess waiting to happen. Glasses knocked off counters and fish bowls turned over are some examples.

Dogs

Dogs are messier than cats, that’s a given. They are somewhat harder to train and have to be taken outside often. This means that if left alone there will be the possibility of accidents happening in the house.

Dogs have to be bathed and groomed; they aren’t able to groom themselves. If not bathed, they can develop odor which is not good for the house. Dogs also shed; even those that are labeled non-shedding will lose some hair.

Birds

Birds aren’t that messy in and of themselves. However, they do have to have their cages cleaned and some birds will spit their sunflower seed shells out of the cage and onto the floor. They are a fairly good choice for someone looking for a pet with minor upkeep. Clean water and food and a cage cleaning on occasion.

Hamsters

Hamsters are cute but they do make a mess in their cages. Being nesters, they move things around all over the cage. They aren’t particular about where they relieve themselves and so the entire cage tends to smell if no cleaned often. They don’t require a lot of attention but their cage does, at least on a weekly basis.

Snakes

The cleanest pet for the home is probably the most unlikely choice for the majority of people. While there are many people who have them, snakes, such as ball pythons are not a favorite pet for most people. In fact, many people won’t go near them. However, they require little attention, don’t shed hair and the minute amount of body waste they have is simple to clean up.

Beta Fish

Along with the ball python, the Beta fish would be the other cleanest pet for the home. These fish do not require aquariums with filters so there is little cleaning involved. All they need is a bowl of water that is changed occasionally and some food dropped in daily.

The cleanest pets are not the pets most people are going to choose, but they do exist. Pets are like most everything else, the more they require the more they give back. No one can argue that having a puppy cuddle up beside them is anywhere near having a Beta fish swimming beside them in a bowl.

How To Restore A 17 "Monitor CRT Picture Tube

The first part of the article mentioned about how you can tap from the secondary diode to get the desire output through the 7808 voltage regulator. The weakness of this circuit is that it can not power up the 17 "Monitor because the power supply have some limitation in delivering current to the bigger CRT tube. Unfortunately, there was no more places (point) in the Monitor where you can tap the voltage to power up the bigger CRT tube. we have to create (design) our own circuit. The best is to use the monitor flyback transformer ferrite core and with wire loop around the core will produce high pulse ac.

With few turning at the core (external loop), you can get a higher ac output voltage to power up the CRT heater. This method only applies if you want to brighten up a Television picture tube. You can not use this way on Monitor CRT because as mentioned earlier in the first part of the article, Monitor runs on different resolution. The higher the resolution, the higher the B + voltage supply to the primary winding of the flyback transformer. The higher the B + voltage, the greater is the voltage output at the secondary side making the output voltage (ac) produced by the external loop even higher. Thus this will make a sudden increase in the filament voltage causing an instant bright in the Monitor raster. Some monitor designed will shutdown if it detect a sudden brightness in the raster.

Even if the monitor did not shutdown and if the user decide to lower the Monitor resolution, the raster will suddenly become too dim due to lower B + voltage. You may ask yourself why computer Monitor has its own 6.3 vdc output and why not like TV, the heater voltage coming from the secondary winding of TV flyback transformer? The answer is because the Monitor designer wants a steady 6.3 volt for filament and does not want the raster to be affected by a changing in Monitor resolution. In order to resolve this problem, after making about 7 to 10 loops around the flyback transformer core, you have to convert this high pulse ac into DC voltage. You can not simply use any diodes for this purpose. A general purpose diode like the famous 1N5401-1N5408 would not be able to work in this circuit. The high pulse ac voltage will immediately kill the diode once the Monitor is switched "on". You have to use an ultra fast recovery diode to do the job.

For your information, not all ultra fast recovery diode can efficiently run on this circuit. You have to select the diode type that has a faster speed time like a 50 nanosecond and below. I had tried a 75 nanosecond ultra fast recovery diode and it blown at 800 by 600 resolutions but work well in the 640 by 480 resolution. After done some R & D, I found that the best part number to use is the UF5404. This diode has the specification of 400V, 3A and 50ns. Once you have connected the ac voltage to the diode, you now have to use a filter capacitor to filter off the ripple. You can use a value of 220 to 1000 microfarad 50V. Measure the output DC voltage and make sure it must have about at least 15 to 20 over volts before you solder to pin 1 of 7808 voltage regulatorYou can also try to use a 7809 if the display is not bright enough. Do not use any voltage regulator that is higher than 7809 otherwise the heater filament will get too hot and burn.

Pin 3 of the voltage regulator is the output and it must join to the heater pin at the CRT board as shown in the photo. Carefully place all the wires in a strategic location and attach the voltage regulator at the heat sink near the flyback transformer. You are now ready to switch on the Monitor and check if there is improvement in the display. If it okay then burn in test the Monitor for couples of days to check if the display is still bright and clear. If you are not satisfied with the sharpness, you can try to increase another volt by changing the voltage regulator part number to 7809. Some technicians prefer to use a variable voltage regulator such as the LM317T with a variable resistor so that they can adjust to the desire voltage. If the picture tube is still dim and no way that you can improve the display, I guess the time is up for the CRT tube. You either replace a used tube or return the Monitor back to the customer. Effective Lighting Tips For Your Bedroom

Bedroom Lighting needs to be carefully thought out and planned because usually the bedroom tends to function as multiple rooms and can require effective task lighting for its various roles. The bedroom can double up as a study, or a television room, or as a reading room and most usually as a dressing room and sometimes it has to function as all these rooms!

Also the bedroom is the first room you see in the morning upon waking and is the last room you see at night before going to sleep. Given that its main function is to be a room of rest, tranquility and comfort, this is one room where getting the lighting right is of paramount importance.

The color scheme of a bedroom has a large role to play in the mood and ambience of the bedroom. And the way in which lighting is used to great effect in a room, will depend on the color of the walls and the furnishings in that room. For instance, bright colors such as orange and yellow are very popular for young children's rooms, pink tend to be more popular with girls, blue is thought of as a cool and calming color. No matter what color the room, by using suitable lighting fixtures, it is possible to change the effect and ambiance of the room by day and by night by simply using different types of lights. An example would be having a blue room – during the day this would come across as being calm and tranquil though, by using color-tinted lamps and warm-colored lighting and having bedside lamps with colored light bulbs, the room can take on a more warm and welcoming appearance by night.

As noted earlier, effective task lighting is key to good bedroom lighting and can be provided through a variety of different ways. Fixed fittings are one option but whilst they remove dangling wires and the risk of overturning table lamps etc, they may confine the bed to a particular place in the room. Portable lighting is the other option and effective task lighting in bedrooms can be easily realized using adjustable reading lamps near to the bed to facilitate reading or desk lamps for the dressing table areas. It is also possible to use special clip-on reading lights (for the bedhead) or spotlights clipped to a wall shelf or even use a floor standing uplighter at each end of the bed.

If the room does not need to be bright lit up, then table lamps dotted around the bedroom are sufficient and can create a low-lit, cozy and comfortable bedroom. Usually two light fixtures at either side of the bed and a few table lamps placed on a desk or dressing table will suffice.

It is possible to use the more familiar lighting effects, commonly used in other rooms, to great effect in the bedroom. For example, effective use of picture lights to create specific focus on portraits or paintings hung on walls as well as using uplighters under a bay window to highlight curtains – these methods are just as effective in the bedroom as they would be in the living room or hallway areas.

For more dramatic bedroom lighting effects, consider placing a linear light underneath the bed itself – this results in a beautiful warm glow and gives the appearance that the bed is almost floating. The same sort of effect can be achieved by placing light fixtures under the bottom of shelves.

Types of Wood Floor Finishes – Which One Do You Have?

First you have to determine what type of finish you have. For this article we will discuss the more common finish types. Here are some easy techniques to help you determine which one you have.

Surface Finishes

Surface finishes are very popular today because they are durable, water-resistant and require minimal maintenance. Surface finishes are blends of synthetic resins. These finishes most often referred to as urethanes or polyurethane's remain on the surface of the wood and form a protective coating. They are generally available in high-gloss, semi-gloss, satin and matte. Surface finishes are most suitable for rooms like the kitchen and bathrooms.

Varnish / Shellac Finishes

If the floor was installed, or last served, before the mid '60s, you should assume the finish used was Varnish or shellac. To determine this, scratch the surface with a coin or other sharp object in a corner or other inconspicuous space. If the finish flakes, it is probably shellac or varnish. Shellac and varnish are rarely used anymore and require full sanding to remove before application of a surface finish or wax finish.

Wax Finish

To check the floor for a wax finish go to an inconspicuous area, either a corner or behind a door, then apply two drops of water. If, within ten minutes, white spots appear under the drops of water, the floor has a wax finish. To remove the white spots, gently rub the spots with # 000 steel wool dampened with wax. If the finish does not flake from scratching with a coin and white spots do not appear from the drops of water, the floor has a surface finish and should be maintained accordingly.

Now lets discuss some of the less hear of finishes and their characteristics.

Swedish finish or acid cure urethane

Both have a clear and fast drying finish. They are durable and non-yellowing. These finishes have an extremely strong odor and should only be applied by a highly skilled wood flooring professional.

Aluminum Oxide Finishes

The newest in wood floor finishes, Aluminum Oxide offers a long lasting more durable coating than past wood floor finishes. Aluminum Oxide finishes carry a limited 20 year wear warranty, and is the latest trend by major prefined wood floor manufacturers.

Penetrating Stain and Wax finishes

Penetrating Stain and Wax finishes soak into the pores of the wood and hardens to form a protective penetrating seal. The wax gives a low-gloss satin sheen that wears only as the wood wears. It will not chip or scratch and is generally maintained with additional thin applications of wax. Usually, wax finishes are applied more often than surface finishes. Only solvent-based (never water-based) waxes, buffing pastes or cleaning liquids specifically made for wood floors should be used.

Modified Urethane finishes

Modified Urethane finishes are generally the most common surface finish and is easy to apply. It is a solvent-base polyurethane that dries in about eight hours. This type of finish ambers with age.

Water-based urethane finishes

Water-based urethane is a waterborne urethane that dries by water evaporation. These finishes are clear and non-yellowing. They have a milder odor than oil-modified finishes have and they dry in about two to three hours. Water-based urethanes are generally more expensive.

Wax Finishes

Wax Finishes is the oldest, and in some ways the best. Wax is the easiest to apply, least expensive, fastest drying, easiest to repair, and with proper care will survive for ever. Wax over a penetrating stain, and the system is in the wood so you wear the wood, not the finish. Proper care guarantees maintenance with colored waxes. Water will spot the waxed surface and must be removed (or prevented). Buffing is required.

Custom Finishes

"Custom," – by definition, means performed to individual specifications. Custom finishing of wood floors is performed in the home on the completely installed new floor, or to refurbish a previously finished floor. Custom finishing permits the decorator and owner to select from a full range of color and style.

So now that you know what differentiates them, how to test to see what you may have and the best methods in maintaining the finish, its time to make, and keep, your hardwood floors glorious.

Flooded Basement – Do You Have a Sump Pump?

Who could believe rain in February? Most Bostonians rejoiced that it rained and not snowed like the rest of the rest of the country which had record breaking snowfalls. However there are some Bostonians who wished it had snowed, not because they like skiing but because their basements flooded due to the heavy rains. Inevitably whenever the North East gets a lot of rain in a very short time, basements flood and the most important tool a home owner needs in a basement is a sump pump.

The majority of our customers with flooded basements who needed our services to pump out their basements all had sump pumps; however those pumps failed to work when they were most needed. A large percentage of these flooded basements could have been prevented. How you ask? With preventative maintenance.

Sump pumps are like clothes dryers and dishwashers they both need periodic maintenance to operate efficiently. It is recommended that in the states where rain and flooding is more prevalent, sump pumps should be tested every few months, while other states that only have periodic flooding, they should be tested twice per year.

Sump pump maintenance:

  • After a Heavy Rain – Check the inlet screen for any blockage. This is one of the leading causes of pump failure
  • Fill the sump pit up with water to make sure the pump is working.
  • Once the pump starts to work, go outside to see if the pump is actually pumping water, or place your hand around the pipe to feel if the water is passing through it. You must check to see if the pump is actually pumping water because sometimes the pump will turn on but not actually pump anything.
  • Make sure that the float controlling the pump is not restricted or getting hung up.
  • If the pump has a back-up battery, it should be replaced every second or third year.

Finally if your home does flood due to the malfunction of your sump pump, be aware that your home owner’s policy almost always excludes sump pump failure. My advice to you would be to call your insurance broker to see if you can add a sump pump clause to onto your policy. The cost for this is very small compared to the thousands of dollars it might cost you if that pump does fail and you end up with two feet of water in your finished basement.

STAY DRY!!!!!!

The Lean Kaizen Event – How Long Should Continuous Improvement Teams Work?

Great Lean Six Sigma practitioners and change agents know the same thing a carpenter does. You have to use the right tool for the right job. When building cabinets, a woodworker rests on tools OTHER than his hammer. One Lean tool that is OFTEN overused is the week long kaizen.

For many people the Lean term, kaizen , has become synonymous with five day improvement event. These projects may also be known as Kaizen Blitzes, Rapid Improvement Workshops, or something similar.

Common sense dictates that there will also be some projects that need more than a week to resolve, and some that need less. In fact, the term k aizen does not just refer to week-long projects . It also means the practice of just making an on the spot improvement. Sometimes a work area is chronically messy. Simply marking a location and placing a trash can in the area is kaizen .

Week-long Kaizen events create big gains for a company. They also are outstanding educational tools. Employees meet people who can help with later improvement efforts such as tooling people, programmers, maintenance workers, and the like.

Kaizen weeks play an important role in process improvement, but when a company ignores other methods, and only uses week long kaizens , the importance of these projects to Lean success becomes exaggerated. As a result, the project sponsor, or Lean champion, tends to push for huge gains. These expectations greatly exceed what can be done in a 40 hour work week, often leading to long nights.
Is there anything wrong with working late like that? For some people, the answer is no. When a project is clicking, and you are moving machines around late at night, the time flies by. For other people, though, it can be a problem.

If the people in a company equate kaizen to a hardship, they will not want to participate.

In the modern world, families with two working parents or single parents are commonplace. It can be challenging for either to make the commitment to put in long hours. Other employees may avoid teams because they have personal commitments like evening classes, coaching baseball teams, or the like. Some workers will just not want to stay late. Even those that do not mind staying late on occasion will get tired of it after having to do several projects in a four or five month period.

So, the strategy of only using week-long projects creates a division in a company of haves and have-nots. Those that have participated in kaizen weeks and everyone else. This division does not take into account whether or not the employee supports Lean enterprise efforts. An employee with schedule conflicts may be lumped together with workers who have been avoiding project weeks because they are resisting change. All of this can create conflict between workers and between employees and managers-making Lean harder than it needs to be.

A better way is to approach kaizen weeks is to use them as one facet of a broad continuous improvement effort. If you shift your focus to daily improvements instead, two things happen. First, if an improvement affects the team on a personal level, more employees will be motivated to get involved. Involvement leads to commitment. Commit increases the success of your Lean efforts. Second, company leadership will not feel the same degree of pressure on every project, so the chance of an improvement workshop week running until all hours becomes more of an exception rather than a rule.

Reach for daily improvements first in your Lean tool box to maximize the success of your Lean efforts.

What Did The Leading Teachers Really Teach You And Tell You? Your Answer Is Vitally Important!

A young boy came home from Sunday School and he was asked, "Well what did you get today?" This little boy had a vivid imagination – he began – "O we had a fantastic lesson this morning. We were told about two and a half million Hebrew slaves being led out of Egypt by Major General Moses, and they came to the Red Sea , and all along the route they were guided the most modern radar equipment, and phantom and jaguar and tornado jets were giving them air cover, and when they came to the red sea the Engineers and Marines thru down Bailey bridges across the water, and the two and half million people bulldoced across in armored vehicles, and once they all got across, when the Egyptian troops and tanks got onto the bridges they all folded up and the enemy army was killed! "

His father asked, "Was that what they told you and taught you at Sunday School today?" "Well – No – said the wee boy – rather sheepishly – but if I told you what they told me you would never believe me!"

We have been studying the details of the Passover and the dynamic leadership of Moses and the miraculous supernatural crossing of the Red Sea.

But that is how some people react to the Word of God! YES – it is absolutely amazing what the mighty Hand of our Almighty God can do at times – and that that is what we are looking at.

Pharaoh had changed his mind once again. That is always a sign of someone insecure and unstable. He is controlled by wickedness, and he is afraid, and he wants to catch the arbitration, and 600 of his best charioteers are sent in hot pursuit of the Children of Israel – Exodus Chapter 14 verse 7.

Israel felt trapped – hemmed in – no way out – up a blind alley with death near! They are terrified – and they whined to Moses – and blamed him! They had forgotten Who was in control of then – Almighty God. They had forgotten the signs – the miracles – the plagues – 24 hours later and they had forgotten all about the Passover!

Does that happen to us? On Monday or Tuesday we forget to apply what the living God said to us through His Word on the Sunday.

Do not forget the Word of the Lord.

They forget His promises – and allowed fear to paralyse their faith. They were terrified by what they could see, and this was all because they did not remember Him Whom they could not see.

Verse 18. And yet God is going to gain glory out of this. We read of a dramatic intervention by the Living God. Jesus Christ can do that in our lives and in our situations too – when it is necessary.

Verses 19 and 20 depict and describe the Divine Strategy.

Verse 21 – The Wind of God – O when the Wind of God begins to blow – when God begins to ruffle the waters – whey The Holy Spirit moves over the face of the waters, things happen.

Stretch out your stick! Verse 16.

The Lord is light to His people, and confusion to the enemies of His people.

We come here to receive light and love and peace and help and strength and guidance and ministry. Someone may come in here and find nothing, but that answers a big question.

When problems are serious and almost swamping us, that is a time when in the power of the Holy Spirit we just have to go on and trust Him. Remember, the rational and living Lord Jesus Christ is in control of the forces of nature.

We know that He was able to walk on water – turn water into wine – the finest of wine – take five loaves and two fish and feed 5,000. Jesus was able to raise the dead, and could remove every trace of disease.

Verse 25 – we read that the Lord fights for us at times – and there can come that moment when God says, "Enough" – verses 26 to 28.

It makes quite a difference as to who is leading you – as to what we allow to influencing us. In this case – to be an Israeli mean life and to be an Egyptian mean death.

It does matter whether or not you are with Jesus Christ totally – or chasing those who are with Jesus Christ – and giving them a rough time – it matters.

We can not deny that – not when we read these versions, and we never know when it is too late to change our minds from sin to salvation.

That is the Word always says – Today – when you hear His Voice – harden not your heart.

The same waters which were the waters of baptism for two and a half million people in as much as God was doing something and their past was cut off – the same water that saved and saved them – drowned those chasing the people of God.

When we move in obedience to Jesus – Jesus is with us in the battle – and for Jesus to be with us in the battle we have to be prepared to enter the battle.

That may appear self-evident but alas it is not – there are those who would like Jesus to be with them where they are – but they do not want to be where Christ would have them serve.

Your Unique Selling Proposition (USP) – How to Get Your Elevator Pitch Right to Find New Prospects

We are all unique in what we do in our business. The problem seems to be in communicating this information to our prospects. When you are preparing your USP (unique selling proposition), or elevator pitch, you must say more than just what you do. Instead, tell people what services you provide, and to what. Also, explain the benefits of what you do and how it is different from what others are offering.

Next, write it down and practice saying it. I used to go the Chamber of Commerce monthly mixers in my city when I was just getting started online. I would introduce myself to as many people as possible and tell them what I did. At first, no one understood what I was doing, so I refined it over time until they would nod and ask me a question about it. Then I knew that I had communicated my business model to them. Over time I refinanced my USP even more, and this was an excellent way to build my business in a clear and easily understood way.

Practice telling the people you meet what you do. Then ask them what they believe you do. If they are able to tell you what you do, you have done your job. If you are a new entrepreneur, this process will take several months to develop, so be easy and patient on yourself. Ask the people who are close to you to listen to what you are saying. They know you well and will be able to tell if it sounds natural. Being able to share your unique selling proposition with prospects is worth spending time to refine.

Gold Plated Faucets – Golden Glory

Making a home look magnificent, royal and one-of-its-kind is not an easy task. Even if the owner has the financial capacity to enhance the home, it is essential to have the vision to decorate the home. Often, owners decorate the entire house very tastefully but neglect one very important part of the house. The bathroom is an evenly and in fact even more important part of the home and must be decorated in the most elaborate way. One of the most majestic ways of embellishing the bathroom is to have gold plated faucets fitted in it.

Sparkling Clean

The bathroom is more than just a utility area for many people. Our day begins with a visit to the bathroom. Also, after a long and tiring day at work, there is no better way to relax than having a nice hot shower or relaxing in the favorite tub. All this makes the bathroom extremely important. Therefore there is every reason to make this place very special. The sign of a plush bathroom can certainly be seen from its arrangements and from its accessories. The faucets in the bathroom are very important and must be carefully fitted. The bathroom definitely looks awesome if there are gold plated faucets in it. The golden plating makes the faucets sparkle in the lights and also gives a very pure feeling to the individual. There are different kinds of faucets available like chrome plated, nickel plated, ceramic and many other kinds of faucets. However, the glow that the gold plated faucets give can not be compared to any other type of faucet.

The gold used for plating the faucets can be different specifications. Needless to say that 24-carat gold would definitely have the greatest effect and make the faucets look brilliantly sparkling. Especially, when gold is used for plating the stainless steel body of the faucets, the overall effect that it has is sensational. A very important advantage of the gold plated faucets is that it does not get stained or damaged with time, unlike other metals.

Gold plated faucets in the bathroom are the perfect choice in lavish homes. They would certainly give the feeling of a royal bath each time an individual is in the bathroom.

Pubic Hair Removal Made Easy – The Ultimate Shaving Kit Review

Hair Care Down There is an e-commerce beauty company that creates products exclusively for pubic hair grooming. They recently relaunched their flagship product, The Ultimate Shaving Kit, in time for summer. The kit won the “Cosmopolitan’s Beauty Award for the Best Bikini-line Beautifier”. The formulas, Shave, Soothe & Smooth, were designed by a woman chemist to eliminate the rashes, ingrown hair, bumps and itching that some people experience after they groom their pubic hair.

The first thing I noticed when I received The Ultimate Shaving Kit, a Hair Care Down There exclusive, was the cute waterproof aqua carry-all case. The case keeps the pubic hair grooming formulas and tools discreetly stored between uses and there are extra pockets if you want to add some of your own beauty supplies.

Inside the case I found:

* A style guide.

* The three signature products: Shave, Soothe & Smooth.

* Round-tipped safety scissors with a rubber grip.

* Lightweight and narrow cartridge razor.

* 2-sided magnifying mirror.

* Brush and comb.

* Heart and landing strip stencils and stencil pencil.

* Decorative bindi adhesive jewels to enhance your design.

I was nervous about using the kit for my first bikini shave but I read the instruction guide that explained how to use the formulas and tools. The included tips and color pictures of the various styles of pubic hair grooming were very helpful.

By using the three gentle formulas made for pubic hair I discovered that I need not fear nicks, cuts or ingrown hair. The Shave, Soothe & Smooth products are a clear shaving gel (so you can see where you are shaving), a spray that prevents itching and rashes and an aloe and green tea moisturizer to keep skin smooth. These products can be reordered separately so that I restock the kit anytime.

The instructions were very easy to follow and the products did not sting or burn my skin. If you’re like me you’ll start out with a conservative bikini shave and progress to creative designs and bindi jewels when you grow more confident.

My fear of shaving my bikini area was completely unfounded. Hair Care Down There made it simple and safe. I highly recommend The Ultimate Shaving Kit for novices and those who are experienced in pubic hair grooming. It is wonderful to have everything you need all in one place and with a carry case that I will take with me when I travel.

My Grandmother's Heritage Recipe

The whole thing started when my sister-in-law called to say that she needed a special dessert for her Mother's 75th birthday party. "Do not you have a family recipe that would be meaningful as well as delicious."

"No, not really," I said as my mind went blank because my Mother and my Grandmothers were not great cooks. Then I remembered the Ice Cream for Special Occasions, as Gran used to call it. It had been handed down to her from her mother and we all loved it.

As I began to think about family recipes, I realized that I actually had a story to go with the recipe. Then I remembered the box of old photos. I had a recipe and a story and a photo of my great grandmother.

Over the next few days I began to count up the family recipes – it seemed we had a whole book full of memories because each recipe had a person and their story attached to it.

Here is the recipe that started it all. You can savor a big bowl of it while you are searching out your own family's memories.

BROWN BREAD ICE CREAM

1 1/4 cups of bread crumbs,

1 tbsp of very good vanilla,

1/2 cup of whipping cream,

4 egg yolks,

1/8 cup of brandy,

2 tbsp of sugar,

1 1/2 cups of whole milk.

Beat together the egg yolks and sugar and cook gently in a double boiler, stirring all the time until it thickens slightly.
Then add the brandy. Let it cool.
Whip the cream and fold it into the cooled mixture. Chill.

Crisp the bread crumbs, sprinkled with sugar, in the oven for 15 minutes. Mix together with the custard and put into an ice cream maker or freeze in the freezer, taking out every 1/2 hour to stir up break up the cristals until totally frozen.

Put the mixture into a pretty dish and serve.

THE STORY

This is an Victorian recipe that my grandmother used to make. She was originally from Cape Town, South Africa where her father was the owner of a bookstore. She was the oldest of six children who went to England every summer and played cards all the way up and back on the ship. When she was 15 her father died.

Her mother emigrated to Canada with the children where they settled in Vancouver. In her early 20's my grandmother eloped to marry a tall handsome Irishman who joined the Western Irish and who was later was wounded at Vimy (WW1). Not believing that anyone could take proper care of her husband she got herself across Canada and on to a troop ship (which was practically unheard of) and arrived in England where he was in hospital. She brought him home where he died of his wound two years later.

This tiny determined woman brought up her son (my dad) trying to keep him "in line" all the while adoring him and watching him proudly move ahead in life. When he went to Toronto and married she reluctantly "came East" to be with her grandchildren, leaving behind the mountains of Vancouver for
the flat landscape of Ontario.

When I was in grade school she and I had lunch together twice a week and as I remember those lunches – she loved to play cards and did not much like to cook, but she did have a few special recipes: curry from The Cape, Jell-o in contrasting colors and this ice cream recipe.

Why is Carbon Bad For the Environment?

Carbon dioxide is one of the greenhouse gases required by the earth to maintain normal temperatures and sustain life. Over the years, there has been an alarming increase of these gases to unhealthy levels and this has negatively affected the earth’s environment. This is because of varied human activities such as industrialization, technological advancement, agricultural production and several other factors. These activities facilitate emission of carbon dioxide (and other greenhouse gases). Trees naturally control the concentration of carbon by absorbing and using it, but massive deforestation done to create space for building and agriculture interferes with this function. The increased emission of carbon leads to high concentration of the gas in the air as less of it escapes from the planet. This leads to elevated temperatures in the atmosphere, a phenomenon referred to as global warming.

Global warming brought about by emission of carbon lead to depletion of the environment in various ways. One of the worst effects of carbon on the environment is the melting of the polar ice caps. Besides being a source of fresh water for oceans and seas, the polar ice caps reflect heat and sunlight back into space thus regulating the atmospheric temperatures on earth. It is also the natural habitat for various species of plants and animals such as seals and polar bears. Melting of these ice caps, as has been witnessed in the past few years, leads to higher temperatures on the earth because there is little regulation taking place. It also leads to depletion of fresh water sources and extinction of certain species of plants and animals that thrive in the caps. The melting ice caps also raise sea levels blocking photosynthetic processes as coral reefs and sea plants are shielded from the rays of the sun. Higher temperatures on earth also increase carbon dioxide trapped in the water, raising its pH. Increasing acidity levels in the water destroy the zooplankton, which the sea creatures rely on for food. Carbon thus has severe effects on the sea as well.

High concentrations of Carbon and other greenhouse gases like nitrous oxide and methane pollute the environment and destroy the quality of air. Consequently, there is a marked increase in respiratory infections such as asthma and other diseases like cancer. Global warming attributed to high levels of carbon have changed climatic patterns worldwide. The result has been more occurrences of floods and earthquakes as well as droughts, volcanoes and hurricanes on the earth. These calamities have caused increased suffering and death in both the human population and animals. Migration of animals and birds are also the result of erratic climatic changes. Acid rain is a direct result of increased emissions of carbon and greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Acid rain destroys plants and crops. It also has adverse effects on the soil and forests in the long run.

To avert further destruction of our environment, there is an urgent need to reduce emission of carbon into the air. Fortunately, everyone can contribute towards this. Walking and cycling are highly recommended to reduce carbon emissions from vehicles. Unplugging all unused electrical appliances also reduces carbon emissions. It is advisable to use environmentally` friendly fuels like biogas and solar energy also. Ensure that the companies supplying your water and electricity use environmental friendly energy.
