How to Clean Your Kitchen Appliances

Kitchen appliances should be thoroughly cleaned inside and out at least twice a year to keep dirt and bacteria under control. Below are some of my suggestions, but always consult your owner’s manual for the manufacturer’s recommended way to clean your appliances, inside and out.

Refrigerator

Remove all of the food from the refrigerator and sort through it. Throw out any expired foods and almost empty food containers.

Now that the refrigerator is empty, remove the drawers and shelves. Be careful when handling glass shelves, especially with wet hands. Wash the shelves and drawers with a mixture of mild soap, lukewarm water and a small amount of baking soda. (The baking soda helps to dissolve grease and dirt and removes odors.)

Wipe down the inside of the refrigerator and freezer before you put the shelves, drawers and food back using the same solution you used to clean the shelves.

Dishwasher

Place a coffee cup filled with vinegar in the dishwashing rack and run it through a complete cycle, using the hottest water setting available. If your dishwasher still doesn’t smell right, try this: sprinkle a cup of baking soda around the bottom of the tub and again run it through a complete cycle using the hottest water. If your dishwasher has a filter in the bottom, pull it out, rinse it and clean it thoroughly.

Finally, wipe down the outside of the dishwasher using a mild detergent. And, don’t forget to clean the top, bottom and side edges of the door.

Microwave

Remove the glass tray from the microwave and wash it by hand or in the dishwasher. Wipe down the inside of the microwave using a mild dishwashing liquid, general all-purpose cleaner or a mild baking soda solution.

If there is built-up dirt and you’re having a hard time removing, try placing a microwave safe bowl containing 1 cup of water and ¼ cup of vinegar in the microwave and boil it for 2-3 minutes. Turn off the microwave and leave the bowl there for 15 minutes with the door closed. Remove the bowl from the microwave and again wipe down the inside. The built-up dirt should be easy to remove now.

Stove

Cleaning the stovetop is probably the toughest job in the kitchen.

Start by removing the knobs, grates and burner covers and cleaning them. Wipe the stovetop down to remove any lose dirt. Then wash the whole surface with hot, soapy water using a good dish detergent. If things are really grimy, you might want to try a commercial degreasing product. Just make sure to follow the package directions.

Avoid using abrasives on your stovetop because they can scratch or damage the surface. And, if you have a gas stove, be careful around the gas ports because you can wipe dirt, grease and cleaning solution into the port and the port can get clogged. If this happens, use a toothpick to carefully clean the opening before using the burner.

Finally, wash the walls and the cabinets behind and to the sides of the stove.

Coffeemaker

Over time, mineral deposits can build up inside your coffeemaker and cause your coffee to taste bitter. This accumulation of mineral deposits may also increase the brewing time of your coffeemaker because the build-up can inhibit the flow of water through the unit.

How long it takes for this build-up to become a problem depends on the quality of the water you’re running through the coffeemaker. If you’re using tap water and the water in your area is hard, you’ll probably want to clean your coffee maker monthly. If you’re using bottled or filtered water, you can probably wait 2-3 months between cleanings.

Either way, if your coffee starts tasting bitter or you notice an increase in the time it takes to make a pot, it’s time to clean your machine.

To clean your coffeemaker, add enough white vinegar to your coffee pot to come to the half-full mark and then add enough water to fill the pot to the top. Pour this mixture into the water reservoir and turn the coffeemaker on. Once the mixture has run completely through, turn the coffeemaker off and let it cool for about 10 minutes. After this, run the coffeemaker twice with fresh, clean water, making sure to let the machine cool for 10 minutes between brews.

Your coffeemaker should now be clean and deposit-free.

What's So Great About Slow Cooking Anyway?

As I walked through the grocery store aisles a few weeks ago, I noticed the increase in prepackaged slow cooker meals. I've been using my slow cooker and reaping the rewards for years, so it was no real surprise to me when others started claiming the benefits of cooking with a crock pot. Why did it take the rest of the country so long to catch up? With this increase in popularity, I've recently been asked by a few 'newbies' 'What's so great about slow cooking anyway?'

That's an easy question to answer even if all you've ever done is make chicken stew with your slow cooker. It's just so dang simple and the food tastes better when cooked slowly and evenly in a crock pot.

I'm a work at home mom. I operate a Family Child Care and also have a busy online business, both of which keep me going all day long. That on top of my daughter's activities and the in and out nature of my husband's business, we're usually searching for time to sit down and eat, especially eating together as a family. There's where the slow cooker comes in handy. I have tons of slow cooker recipes, and can find just about anything to cook that my kids and picky husband will like to eat.

Since I work at home, having the kitchen stay a comfortable temperature is a must, as I spend quite a bit of time there preparing meals and snacks for my day care kids. I use my crock pot year round, and love its usefulness during the warm weather months when I can fix the beginnings of the meal in the morning when I've got other 'stuff' out on the counter anyway, put it all in the pot , and then clean up the whole mess when I'm done. The crock pot requires very little clean up itself, so there you have yet another major reason for why slow cooking is so great.

For those of you who work away from home, consider this scenario: As the day goes along, the slow cooker is busy fixing your meal for you, and when you walk through the door at the end of another grueling day at work, your dinner is waiting. All you need to do, depending on the recipe you've selected, is prepare a side dish or salad, add some bread, set the table, and call the family in to eat. Simple, simple, simple; and very satisfying to come home to.

Here is a favorite slow cooker recipe that you can try with your family. I'm sure you'll all love it.

The Impact of Organizations’ Strategic Plan – Including Succession Planning and Skills Inventory

There is need to understand what strategic plan is, in order to know how to deal with succession planning & skill inventory of an organization therefore will can defined strategic planning as a management tool, used for one purpose, that is to help on organization to do a better job – to focus its energy, to ensure that members of the organization are working towards, the same goals, to asses and adjust to organization’s direction in response to a change environment. In short strategic planning is a disciplined effort to produce fundamental decisions and actions that shape and guide what an organization is, what it does and why it doe it with a focus on the future. This definition provides the key elements that underline the meaning and success of a strategic planning process, the process is strategic because it involve preparing the best way to respond to the circumstances of the organizations, being strategic then means being clear about the organization objective being a were of the organization resources and incorporating both into being consciously responsive to a dynamic environment.

The process is disciplined in that it calls for certain order and pattern to keep it focused and productive, the process raises a sequence of questions that helps to examine experience, test assumptions, gather and incorporate information about the present and anticipate the environment in which the organization will be operating in the future.

The three main steps are

– Formulation of the organizations future mission in light of changing external factors such as competition, technology, customers and regulation

– Development at a competitive strategy to achieve its mission

– Creation of an organizational structure which would deploy resources to successfully carry out its competitive strategy

Having understood what strategic plan is, we can define succession planning, In today’s highly competitive global environment, human capital in an organizations most important asset, it is ongoing effort to develop a strong and capable workforce and also to bridge the competency gap such that at the exit of a key player in an organization, a competent replacement is available to man such key position. Succession planning focuses on three main areas. First it addresses the needs of the organization as senior management ages. It is not unusual for a management top particularly CEO to spend years leading an organization, during that period business pratices and procedures become increasingly entrenched and daily issue take precedence, through succession planning there is a conscious effort to prepare somebody to assume the top position after the retirement of the founder or the CEO, failure to do this wreaks havoc in the organization secondly succession play helps on organization to prepare for an unexpected event, it is often difficult to plan for unimaginable yet the sudden illness or death of a key executive can reverberate throughout an organization, paralyzing both management and staff and impeding the organizations ability to execute its business plan, unfortunately, disease automobile accidents and other disasters are an ongoing reality. Although it is not feasible to plan for every possible scenario and particularly, the loss of several key leaders at the same time, it is realistic to map out a chain of command and understand who will assume control if and when a key executive is lost.

Finally, succession planning ensures that an organization has the right personnel to function at peak efficiency; many organizations strive to identify key objectives and business goals and shape a work force accordingly because there is need for specific skills and competencies throughout the organization. Not only does succession planning serve as a way to create an organizational hierarchy, but it also help organization manage change in a holistic ways.

Skill inventory also is a management its often refers to as manpower budgeting in some organizations and it is carried out in the light to know the strength of an organization in relation to employees, also breaking it down to what they do as their responsibility, the department where they function, qualification, entry date, when due for promotion or retirement any point in the life of the organization. Skills inventory to a large extent gives insight into the abilities, skills, training and experience of employees and these is need to know if the skills would match future demands and changes in mode of operation which we would arise because of technological changes due in the future.

Having understood the concepts discussed above, the impact of recruiting on the organizations strategic plan, including succession planning and skills inventory can be summarized taken into consideration many factors, firstly, there is an understanding that an organization with a strategic plan has a mission which has been clearly spelt out and to achieve this the human resources which would carry out the plan is a concern to the organization, here the issue of recruiting because important because the need to have the candidate with the necessary skill for the position, which would be vacant as a result of the exit of a key player in the organization, in order to bridge the competency gap that a vacancy could create, the organization already having this picture through skill inventory done would begin to make plans such as looking in ward by training the staff they have on ground to meet the required change and challenges that would arise a the future, the trend in the business world today do not see training as a tool that could be used for succession planning because employees being dynamic tends to move from one organization to another, this makes training become a wastefully investment to an organization, however recruiting is done with a clear picture in relation to the strategic plan, in that the interested suitable candidate is considered, does he have the capability to meet this challenging task, does he have the qualification, the experience, does he believe in the vision of the organization.

In conclusion, succession planning & skill inventory are complex task that requires constant attention and ongoing resources, organization real devote considerable time and resources to mapping out skills and competencies, so that they can recruit and train appropriately and achieve a distinct competitive edge organization should view recruiting in line with succession planning & skill inventory as a ongoing process rather than an event that must be addressed every year or two. Recruiting must be done always giving consideration to the strategic plan which is the goal and objective of the organization, by having the manpower to meet the now needs and future and blocking all avenues which could give rise to gaps in talent and fill them more effectively and at the appropriate time and at all levels in the organization.

The Layman's Guide to Dit Da Jow and Iron Palm for Martial Arts Training

With the popularity in Martial Arts Training or Mixed Martial Arts training, injuries can occur, knowing how some famous Traditional Chinese Medicinal liniments work, can be of great benefit.

Since the arrival of the UFC, Martial Arts training has exploded, we are seeing MMA gyms opening everywhere teaching Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, Boxing and more. We saw a similar burst when Bruce Lee appeared before our eyes in the Green Hornet and then on the big screen with his first film Fists of Fury. Now we are training for self protection and fitness, along with competition. Martial Arts training can be incredibly satisfying and rewarding but also painful with the risk of possible injuries. Knowing how to handle these injuries will make you a better participant and avoid future health problems.

Dit Da Jow and Iron Palm are two products used to help recover from training injuries. They are both herbal liniment type products that are applied locally to the injured area and soaked in through the skin to help heal.

As in most Martial Arts training striking is used as part of the training regimen. Either striking with the hands, feet or shins creates micro traumas to those areas causing Qi blockage, when Qi is blocked pain ensues, without proper treatment and with continuing striking this Qi blockage becomes worse and more serious problems can develop.

By using Dit Da Jow and Iron Palm you are helping to unblock the Qi flow, activate blood movement, relax the tendons and ligaments and increase bone strength. The important key here is the movement of Qi. When Qi moves pains disappear, when Qi is blocked or stagnated then there is pain. There are two types of Qi we need to be concerned about regular Qi and Wei Qi. Wei Qi often described as the defensive Qi handles and protects our injured areas. Buying the correct type of Dit Da Jow and Iron Palm is critical since the herbs in the formula must pilot both types of Qi otherwise the liniments will not do their job.

The formulas we have been selling for over 20 years have the right herbs past down from the ancient masters. By using our formulas properly you not only condition your hands, shins or other striking areas but you are speeding up healing from the damage done in training. This is important so it does not lead to other conditions like arthritis.

If you are familiar with acupuncture you know blood and Qi flow through Meridians which I like to call the little super highways in our bodies. When you maintain a painful injury like a sprain, contusion or a bad breeze most likely you blocked the Qi flow to the Meridian or the Meridian itself. Applying Dit Da Jow and Iron Palm to those serious injuries opens up the flow of Qi through those superhighways.

In some cases when the injury is very traumatic like hitting your thumb with a hammer along Dit Da Jow and Iron Palm you may need to take an internal formula like ChinKoo which helps open up the Qi and blood flow internally. If you are not familiar with ChinKoo it is a classic Chinese Patent Formula contracting of herbs you would find in external Dit Da Jow, this formula will help with bruising, swelling and breaks up blood stagnation, and helps stop pain, also very good sprained joints . Bad bad sprains which are basically when a joint is extended past its normal range of motion require extra treatment with Iron Palm since Iron Palm helps with the sinew recovery; sinew is essentially the connective tissue around the joint.

Do I need the Dit Da Jow and Iron Palm?

The short answer is yes and let me tell you why if you are seriously training in a sport that requires contact of any kind then you should have both. If you are not doing any type of contact training, but are in a trade like a plumber or carpenter then maybe not.

Here is comparison chart for Dit Da Jow and Iron Palm

Dit Da Jow Iron Palm

Heals Bruises Heals Tendons, Sinew, Bones

Stops Pain Stops Pain

Strengthens blood Vessels Strengthens Bones, Tendons, and connective Tissue

Reduces Swelling Conditions the Hands, Shins for Heavy Contact

Stops Blood Stagnation Protects Contact Area from Serious Injury

Moves Qi Moves Qi

As you can see from the above chart both the Dit Da Jow and Iron Palm are similar but they also work on differently different areas of healing. I combine 4-6oz of each in a glass jar and use it prior to and after training. If there is a particular area that needs attention then I will rub it on several times a day. I try to practice preventative medicine, by applying these linings I feel I am not only helping my body heal but strengthening it as well to prevent injuries in the future.

Serious injuries of course will require a trip to the doctor and this article is in no way trying to treat any illness or injury that is for your doctor to do, this article is to give you insight into what has been done over a thousand years to treat injuries from combat or other trauma related body injuries. Traditional Chinese Medicine has been practiced for over 2000 years some even say close to 5000. That is a long time with plenty of success.

The Best Places To Install Home Chandeliers

Mounted lighting fixtures do not just add light to a room, they are more comparable to works of art, which convey beauty and elegance into your living or dining rooms.

Unlike lamps that you can move around, chandeliers and sconces are more permanent structures, therefore proper placement is necessary for them to look and work well. Consider scale too, since a small fixture will look lost and one that's too large will overpower a room. For proper installation, you'd need to get the services of an electrician, so you will avoid making costly mistakes.

Where Crystal Chandeliers Are Best Suited

Since a chandelier is a beautiful decorative piece with a warm, subdued light, these are not well suited for a libraries or other areas that require adequate lighting. Chandeliers, however are perfect for the dining room, the foyer, or even the sitting room. In such places where people go to simply converse and enjoy each other's company, it would be a great place for a chandelier. If you have a chandelier in a different type of room make sure you also have a brighter light, like recessed lighting.

Important Tips To Consider

Should you consider placing a chandelier in aa dining room, the fixture should hang above the center of your table. If the electrical connection in your ceiling does not work with your table's center, add a heavy-duty decorative hook in the ceiling above the center of your table, and then attach a length of chain to carry the wiring from the electrical connection to the hook.

As a rule for 8- to 9-foot ceilings, the bottom of your chandelier should be between 30 and 33 inches above the tabletop. Crystal chandeliers for other rooms need to be placed higher than 8 feet above the floor in the middle of the room or foyer for safety and style. In putting sconces, these elements should be hung so that the light source is at or just above eye level, since you would not want to be able to look down into a sconce and see its inner wirings and conduits.

In a room with very tall ceilings, it is appropriate to place them a little higher. It is also important to consider the volume of traffic in the room. Do not allow a sconce to extend so far from the wall that people risk bumping into it or knocking it off when walking by. To avoid stumbling on a meshed tangle of electrical cords, have an electrician install the wiring into the wall.

Chandelier Shopping Advice

– Size Matters. When choosing the appropriate dining room chandelier, scale is important. You do not want the fixture to dominate a table or look too massive. Take width and length measurements, or the diameter for a round table, and note them down to guide you when you're shopping. Subtract 12 inches from your table's width (or diameter), and the result is an appropriately sized fixture.

– Small sconces will look lost on a long wall, so select a complementary shape and size for the best display. For example, if your walls are tall, choose a long, vertical sconce.

– Chandelier Styles. Designs have already evolved a lot since the early days of the chandelier. You do not have to match your table and your chandelier. If you have a traditional dining room table, it would be okay to add a drum shade chandelier to give the room flair.

Is the Antique Business, Dying, Dead, Wounded Or Just Hybernating?

If you are a small business owner of a antique business, you have probably heard the “death knoll claims”, been deluged with discouragement from the “gloom and doom”crowd and look frequently out your window to see if “the funeral procession” is passing by…I am here to tell you that while antiques as well as all discretionary retail businesses are challenged…they are not dead and won’t be any time soon!

Almost every day I hear the constant comment from some customers and a lot of discouraged dealers saying that the antique is industry is dead, dying or disappearing. There rationale is:

1. The existing customer isn’t buying.

2. The existing customer has bought all they intend to.

3. The younger customer isn’t interested.

4. Everyone that might be buying is buying online.

I would like to give you “tough and committed” antique dealers who have store fronts some counter intuitive insight and contrarian opinion about the “state of things in the antique industry”.

For years the antique industry (like many other industries in America) became over populated with part time, marginally committed participants who saw there opportunity to turn a “passion for garage sales” into “off or on the books” profits with little day to day efforts through the proliferation of antique malls everywhere! These dealers would “plop down” a security deposit, load up the SUV, get a few tables and cloths together and open up a Antique Mall Space. The large size of this group proliferated a huge amount of antique malls popping up on many main streets and malls throughout the United States.

The fallacy of this concept was the space was expensive, add on percentages pretty high, and marginally committed staff not having the same “vested interest” as a owner of a mall space would have. The dealers in the malls were not “retailing veterans” and in many cases found out at the end of the month that instead of the “slush funds” that they thought they had created, a bill for the short fall between space rent and sales was waiting for them on the first of the month instead of the hoped for check. A new “harsh reality” sunk in to the mall space tenants and they soon said this is not a good idea and “bailed” in record numbers. The “bailing process” of mall space tenants created huge empty gaps in antique malls and led to a new reality for the antique mall owner “they are upside down on their rent due to the vacancies”. This has led to record Antique Malls closing their doors and hanging the “for rent” signs on the front of the buildings.

What is the post mortem of this process? “Bigger opportunities” for the surviving retail outlets for the sale of antiques by getting a bigger slice of a (economically caused) smaller pie. This is a moment to not lament the advent of online antique sales but take advantage of it. The internet gives a dealer a chance to reach millions of new customers and “start slicing up” their share of the smaller pie. The reduction in shopping malls makes your “brick and mortar” shop more appealing to the customer who enjoys a new adventure in a antique store (as long as he or she is welcomed with enthusiasm) and well priced and unique items to be tempted by.

Willl the antique industry and store survive and return back to life? I think so. The antique customer is first and foremost a “collector” not unlike a museum. They collect things that interest them, have intrinsic value to them and that they think will in time appreciate in value. The number and longevity of museums throughout the world is testimony that there is still interest in viewing and owning things of historical significance on the part of many individuals. A private collection of a “item of passion” for a collector is their private museum to be enjoyed by themselves and shared with friends…and perhaps ultimately sold for profit!

The traits that will determine the”winners and losers” in this antique industry “shakeout” are:

1. Perserverence coupled with tight expense control.

2. Exciting and unique merchandise flowed regularly to ensure newness to your repeat customers.

3. Good value. The days of “obscene profit” are over. $10 profit to $1 investment may happen occasionally but a more modest $3 to $1 sales price to cost ratio probably will give better value and motivate the thinning “customer count” to purchase.

4. A good attitude. The last thing anyone needs (or wants to hear) when they visit a store or business for some quality shopping time is “gloom and doom”. Motivation and enthusiasm are contagious…so is wining and growsing. If you want more positive customers… be a more positive shop owner!

5. Look for new ways to reach new customers. Pack up the car or truck and hit the high, low, or medium end flea market, antique show or swap meet with a load of business cards and great merchandise. Give the people who stop by a “preview” of your taste and selection and invite them to stop by for a visit of the larger assortment in your shop. Give them a discount coupon, if you want to fuel urgency, to be used on their next visit.

6. Finally keep you store fresh. If new merchandise flow isn’t possible with current cash flow challenges… Rearrange your stocks so that the same items are presented in new locations, with new adjacencies and with new ways to visualize their use. You will find a old item becomes a new sale by simply moving it to a new location.

In summary when the going gets tough…The committed antique shop owner should look at the situation as a opportunity to grow market share…Not toss in the towel!

The world is littered with businesses that would have been successful with a little more perseverance and patience! Quitting is easy…Winning is commitment!

What's the Difference Between Plasma TVs and LCD TVs?

Plasma and LCD TVs are the latest trend in home entertainment. Both offer unrivaled picture quality and resolution, while doing away with the bulkiness of the older rear-projection technologies. But with all of the hype surrounding these two types of televisions, what is the difference between them? Although they look- and are actually priced- the same, they are not.

There differences are found in the way in which they display their pictures. Plasma TV technology is made up of hundreds of thousands of small pixels, each capable of displaying red, green, and blue colors. A plasma monitor often consist of two panels, which are filled with an inert gas, such as xenon or neon. When the pixels are excited by pulses of electricity, the gas becomes liquid, then generating light. This light in turn then illuminated the pixels, causing them to display the appropriate color to form a picture.

LCD panels function in a very similar manner. A panel of thin-film-transmitters, or TFT, sends electricity to cells filled with liquid crystal. When the cells are stuck by the electricity, the liquid crystals allow light to filter through. Unlike the pixels found in plasma TVs, LCD monitors create color by blocking out the appropriate wavelengths from white light.

So which is better? The answer to this question depends upon what you plan to use TV for. Do you just want to use it to watch movies and television? If so, then a plasma TV may be best, because they are capable of a higher better color saturation and contrast than their LCD counterparts and for displaying moving images. If you plan in spending a lot of time showing digital photography or plan on using the monitor with your computer, then a LCD display might be better suited to these purposes.

Both plasma and LCD technologies each have their advantages and disadvantages and your decision should absolutely be based on your monitor's application.

Did You 'Drive Hammered' And 'Get Nailed' This Labor Day?

Arizona's DUI task force arrested nearly 1,800 people for driving under the influence during a National Impaired Driving Crackdown campaign, which began. 20 and ended on Labor Day. Does that number seem high to you? It should! Last year during the same time, there were just over 1,300 arrests. Given all of the campaigning and publicity year in and year out, why are we arresting an increasing number of impaired drivers?

The answer could be that Arizona increased the number of officers assigned to the task or it could simply be that the old offenders are the new offenders. In other words, Arizona safety experts believe that the habitual offenders are keeping those statistics high.

Arizona has some of the toughest laws in the country when it comes to penalizing DUI offenders. For example, anyone convicted of any DUI is faced with some jail time and must have an ignition interlock device installed on any car they drive. The higher a person's blood alcohol level content (BAC), the higher the penalties are. The penalties also increase if you have a prior conviction for DUI. A first offender with a BAC below 0.150 is faced with a minimum of 24 consecutive hours in jail and approximately $ 1,860 in financial penalties. On the other hand, a person with a second offense "Super Extreme DUI," BAC above 0.200, is faced with a minimum sentence of 180 days in jail and near $ 18,295 in financial penalties.

On the positive side, Arizona's DUI fatality rate has been cut in half since 1995. About 300 people are killed each year by a drunk driver in Arizona, and in 2008 (the most recent year for which we have statistics) the exact number was 324 .

While awareness campaigns to end drunk driving and encouraging people to find a "designated driver" are working, we still have a ways to go. The reduction in fatalities might be credited to the increase in female and older drivers, two groups who are less likely to drive drunk. But, let's not rely on the changing demographics of Arizona drivers to lower the number of fatalities. Rather than waiting another 15 years to cut that 324 in half, will we see the day when we have no fatalities as a result of drunk driving? It's certainly something we can work toward.

Landscape Painting Techniques – Tips To Help You Make A Better Landscape Painting

Landscape painting techniques are important for anyone who desires to make their landscape paintings more effective to the viewer. Landscapes are representations of specific scenery that you would wish to portray via the canvas.

Landscapes are murals of the different scenery that surrounds us. It can be a scene of nature – a forest, a river, the beach, anything scene that you can pick out in nature. It can also be a representation of an urban place – the market, the rows of buildings, the church.

There are several techniques you will need to remember wen painting a landscape.

Avoid Copying Everything

For any landscape painting, it is important that you do not get to copy everything in a scene. Because it is a portrait of a specific place you would like to preserve in a painting, you will need to inject your ideas so that it becomes an original all on its own. The idea in landscape painting is to be able to make a similar scene that is also a portrait of your own ideas.

The Essence Of the Scene

In landscapes, what you should be able to capture is the very essence of the place. For instance, in a marketplace, you will need to capture the very essence that makes it a marketplace – the hurried pace, the dynamics between sellers and buyers, things like that.

The Actual Scene As A Reference Piece

Because it is actually impossible to capture everything in a scene as is, it is the goal of a landscape to make the model scene as a point of reference. You can actually make a similar background and then put in your own ideas for the specific things in the foreground.

The Background And The Foreground

As said, you need to make a background for the scene. It will be an indefinite thing that will actually affect the specific things you put in the foreground. Therefore, you can make the background a sort of thing that will set the general mood for the whole landscape.

It is also important that you do not need to put much detail into the things in the background. What is important is that you'll be able to put much detail into the things you put in the foreground.

Summary

Painting a landscape can be very cruel. This is because you will need to take note of a basic background first before you get to define the different things in the foreground. Therefore, it is important that you get to pick a scene you wish to make and then paint it in such a way that it is an original portrait on its own. Use your own creativity and you can make a landscape painting in no time at all.

6 Reasons To Become a Work At Home Mom and 6 Reasons Not To

Becoming a work at home mom is a difficult decision for any woman. The idea of trying to balance working and caring for children for a stay at home mom, or leaving the work place to work at home for a career mother, can be daunting to say the least. There are many wonderful reasons to do it, but there are also drawbacks to consider. In the end it is a very personal choice as every woman's situation is different. Just to help get you started though, here are some reasons working from home can be great.

1. More time with your children. Undoubtedly one of the main reasons a woman will consider working from home. As a work from home mom, you will have the chance to be part of your child's daily routine. Sitting down for lunch with your toddler, welcoming your child home from school and hearing about their day, helping with homework. It gives you even more time to watch and enjoy as your child learns and grows before your eyes. After all, they only grow up once, right?

2. Earning money. Most likely the other main reason most look at becoming a work at home mother. By working from home you will be bringing in income. In today's economy every penny counts and most families are feeling that. More and more mothers are turning to working from home as a way to keep their family financial in order.

3. You will save money. While most business ventures will have costs of their own, by working at home you save money in a lot of areas. No more daily commute to work means less gas will be needed. Daily child care is no longer needed if the mother will be working with the children at home. Most work at home mothers also find that spend less money on clothes, opting for more casual attire at home and saving traditional work clothing for special occasions such as meetings with potential clients or employers.

4. Gain a sense of control. Many mothers say they tend to feel a loss of control in their household. As a working mother many feel like they lose a lot of control by not being home during the day and not being with their children as much. Stay at home mothers that do not work on the other hand tend to feel like they have no control over the financial situation of the family. Either can be very stressful. By working from home you are free from both of these.

5. Flexible hours. Although the self-employed work at home mom will have more flexible hours than the telecommuting mother, either normally presents more flexible hours than the traditional job. This allows you to choose when you will work, wherever you want to work while your child is at work, before they wake up, or after they fall asleep, or you would rather work in shorter bursts during naps and play dates.

6. Escape the workplace dynamic. While many women love the social aspect of working in an office, many also will enjoy the freedom of not being distracted by unnecessary meetings, social gathers, and colleague chats that distract from work and lower productivity. By being able to focus on your work and get it done without those distractions you will be allowed even more time with your family.

Now that we have explored the benefits, it is also important to look at the drawbacks. Obviously working from home is not going to be perfect either. Here are six disadvantages of working at home.

1. Blending work and home. Many women have trouble mixing their work and home environment. Not everyone is able to easily balance the needs of work and children. If one has trouble saying no to either you could end up with too much on your plate, and falling behind with either your work or family can be a huge issue.

2. Negative effect on career advancement. Telecommuters are quite often passed up for promotions. By being outside of the office they tend to be "out of sight and out of mind". Because of this you can expect to have a much harder time being noticed for a promotion. Many employers also tend to be unsupportive of telecommuters, seeing it as a sign of lack of commitment.

3. Isolation. Many new work at home mothers are very used to the social interaction working in an office. This can give many women a feeling of isolation being at home all day with their children and often alone for most of the day if their children are school age. It is important to try to keep some kind of adult social interaction.

4. Distractions. Working at home brings a whole new slew of distractions. Even with in-home child care, you will hear a child crying through a closed office door. It is easy to get distracted from work with so many things going on in your home. It is important to have the ability to concentrate on the task at hand.

5. Bad eating habits. With a refrigerator just on the other side of the house and kids that will normally eat all through the day, it is extremely easy to pick up those eating habits and snack all through the day. This can lead to eating more than you would normally eat, having a less balanced diet, and can result in less structured meals for the family. It can take a lot of effort to maintain proper eating habits.

6. Quantity vs Quality of family time. Just because you are home all day does not mean you will be able to have all the quality time you could want. This one is especially difficult for the stay at home mom starting to work. You and your child are probably used to spending a lot of quality time together. It will be a hard adjustment to be able to dismiss your child while working so you can concentrate. Sure you can share in your child's enthusiasm, but that does not mean you will always be able to give them the attention that either you or they want you to.

Once again, the decision to become a work at home mom is a very difficult and personal choice. Before deciding it is important to look closely at your situation and personality to decide if it is the right fix for you.
