What Is ITIL Training And Is It Right For You?

This is an era of technological advancement where all the resources are readily available online or through digital coding. Everything is within reach just because of this digital transaction of information; and since the need of individuals being computer literate is becoming essential day by day. ITIL refers to Information Technology Infrastructure Library, from where one can obtain, organize and use any type of data required for research, project or report.

It is becoming increasingly important for individuals to be able to extract information and use it according to their requirements. Therefore, IT infrastructure library training is gaining popularity not only among professionals but students and housewives, as well.

No matter where you work from: home or office, public sector or private sector, there are chances that you will be required to exhibit your knowledge of ITIL.

ITIL training is extremely important for organizations, as it gives the employees a basic understanding of how to obtain, to store and to use specific types of data according to their requirements. It is not necessary to enroll into special programs to get training; rather one can register online with a training institute and get the required training within a few weeks and that too at flexible timings which suits one best.

At the same time, make sure that you know what type of ITIL training you need as there are various courses which range from basic to advance levels. It is also suggested that you do some prior research and ask for opinions of others, who have already taken the course.

Summing up, many of you would consider this area of subject to be wholly useless but as the importance of IT is growing, it is becoming essential to have hands on all such type of training programs to get themselves familiar with how technological advances are changing the world.

Soon a time will come, when an IT employee would only be considered if he will have an in-depth knowledge of handling such resource networks, so that the companies can actually make some use of IT infrastructure libraries to their benefit.

Remember! You must discuss with the relevant training instructor before you apply as he / she will be in a better position to recommend the right type of course for you.

10 Tips to Longer Lasting Forklift Batteries

1. Check the automatic watering systems.

These systems tend to be clogged during use. They also tend to be located in the lift and not taken out very often, so they get clogged. This often goes unchecked, the clog is not discovered and the cell gets burned up and dried. This results in $ 400 – $ 600 costs for a cell change and this is a frequent issue commonly seen that could be avoided.

2. Clean the tops of the batteries of acid and corrosion.

A dirty battery causes a lot of problems. If you put a volt meter on top there actually is a slow discharge of the battery. If you charge a battery it will slowly discharge over time. Corrosion builds up and will ruin your cables which cause poor battery performance. Cables can get expensive at $ 70 – $ 100 each if you have a lot of batteries, in addition to decreasing your battery performance. This can be avoided just by taking a little time to clean the top of the batteries.

3. Keep on top of under performing batteries.

A lot of companies do not take care of the problem batteries. Under performing batteries can draw heavy loads on electrical components of the forklift which are very expensive to the thousands of dollars. The damage happens when the battery gets low and it is used anyway.

You can tell a battery is under performing if it does not last a full shift. A lot of batteries only go for 1 or 2 hours and the drivers do not know which ones are good or bad. They just put them in and the batteries draw very quickly.

Facilities that have under performing batteries can spend thousands per month reflecting electrical components in forklifts and the root cause is under performing batteries. These batteries can be identified, Brought Up To Full Performance and this expense can be saved.

When the lifts go down you have less productivity, less product moved, more battery changes and unnecessary costs of replacing components and the labor to do so.

4. Use filtered water in batteries.

Being in so many facilities and seeing things first hand I can tell you without hesitation that using tap water in your batteries will cause you problems and unnecessary expense. I see this all the time. Batteries that use tap water are far worse than all the rest of them. They heat up more. The minerals in the water build up on the plates and it causes heat. Heat causes premature battery failure. My estimate is you cut battery life by 50%. Even if your battery is covered by a warranty you have to ship it out and wait for it come back, and incur the costs to do so. This can be avoided by using filtered water.

5. Use a water de-ionizer.

A cheap and effective solution to the problem of using filtered water. You can attach it to your water line, it is cheap and you get the benefits of filtered water. It's easy to use. You do not have to mess with bottles of filtered water. You can use an automatic water gun and a battery is filled up in seconds rather than the minute or so it takes to pour in filtered water from a bottle, which is probably the main detergent to using filtered water. This makes filling up easy and painless and eliminates the minerals that pollute the batteries and cause you expense and lost productivity.

6. Do not allow opportunity charging.

Do not allow charging during 15 minute breaks and lunch periods. Batteries are made to draw down 80% and then be full charged. If you opportunity charge you will significantly reduce the life of your battery.

I think the reason this process starts is when you have under performing batteries, the drivers know this and they try to get a little more charge during their breaks.

Opportunity charging accelerates the deterioration of battery performance. If you identify the less performing batteries you can avoid this issue.

This can reduce battery lift by a year or two, plus you have the cost of electricity for unnecessary charging and the labor cost and lost productivity when a battery needs to be charged.

7. Do not equalize the batteries more than once a month.

Equalizing creates thermal heat, especially when a battery is a little older. Heat kills batteries. It sheds the lead. Equalizing can give a temporary boost but the battery is used up more quickly. I go into facilities and see see batteries steaming from the heat.

The temporary boost you get comes at a high cost of shorter battery lift and the costs of increased handling and maintenance.

8. The batteries should cool down after charging.

Remember, heat kills batteries. If they are charged and then immediately used they are hot a lot longer. Companies that get the most from their batteries let them cool a few hours after charging.

9. Do a quick check of cables and connections monthly.

This can easily be overlooked. At a glance everything might look all right but a closer inspection can pick up corrosion which does not allow electricity to pass through. Jiggle the cables and make sure the connections are solid.

Bad cables impact battery performance. If electricity does not pass though efficiently, your battery is not discharging or charging completely. You might think your battery is bad, but it really can not be charged completely because the cables are bad. So check them for corrosion.

10. Program your chargers with a 30 minute delay.

One company I service could not stop their workers from opportunity charging during breaks and lunch when they were not being watched. So, they installed a 30 minute delay on the charger.

The workers plug in as normal but they are not being charged due to the delay.

The disadvantages and costs of opportunity charging are so significant that installing a delay was a very smart move for this facility. Most of the breaks are 15 or 30 minutes and it eliminated charging during this time.

Summary

Batteries will last a lot longer. A typical warranty is 5 years but you can get 7 or 8 years of productive lift from a battery. If you are not doing the above a battery may only be productive for a year or two and then it is under performing, with all the attendant unnecessary time, labor and expense, for the last few years it is in use. You incur the consequences of increased charging, lost productivity and unnecessary electricity and labor expense to keep them in service.

The labor cost of having under performing batteries is significant. Bad batteries mean you have people changing them. There are safety concerns. When batteries are being changed you have a risk of injury. With more activity around the battery area there is more opportunity for injury.

The Ultimate Stress Management Strategy from the Dog

This is probably the busiest and most stressful time of the year. There's so much that needs to get done on top of the stuff you already have to do. And work? Well, there are just as many demands there as ever.

So, I thought I would introduce you to a very good friend of mine who has taught me a great deal about how to deal with stress. His name is Cecil, and he is my 3 year old golden retriever. I'll bet you're asking yourself what a dog could possibly know about the challenges of balancing work and life. As a matter of fact, I think he is probably a leading expert in this area.

You see, Cecil is no ordinary dog. He is my seeing eye dog, which means he has a high-stress and incredibly demanding job. Navigating buses, escalators, elevators, busy intersections, and a multiple of sidewalk obstacles while ensuring my safety at all times are part of Cecil's daily duties.

On the flip side though, Cecil knows how to let off steam and play. As a matter of fact, unlike most humans who experience workplace stress, Cecil incorporates play into every single day. And, he is very insistent about having his play time.

When Cecil came to live with me over a year ago, I was given a string of bells to hang by the door so Cecil could indicate when he needed to go outside for "business duties." Little did I know then that he would also use this bell to "demand" play time. But, that is exactly what this bell has become. He rarely uses it for anything other than to indicate he wants to go out to play. And, he will keep ringing the bell until he gets his way! How many people do you know that are that insistent about having play time after a hard day at work? Are you?

What usually happens when you get stressed is you forget to do the very things that can help you alleviate that stress. Why? Because to do those things takes time away from all the things that absolutely MUST get done; time you simply do not have.

The truth is that if you take a little time to play when you are most stressed, you will find that you have more energy to handle the things that need your attention. This means that taking time out to play has made you more capable to handle work and life demands, and not actually cost you a thing!

So, take a little time out each day and play. It does not have to be something elaborate. Just have a little fun and hang a string of bells by your door so you will not forget!

What You Must Know About Skin Under 10x Magnification

In our appearance obsessed world maintaining one's looks is seen by many as key to being successful. Maintaining one's appearance covers a wide range of different things from hair styles to the clothes you wear. All of these things and many more need to be addressed in order to be considered 'good looking'. One such thing is the upkeep of good skin; specifically facial skin.

Unlike hair styles and clothes which can be hard to judge as being good or not, having good skin is very clear cut. Simply put it should not have any imperfections whatever; These include acne, pimples, blackheads or whiteheads. There is no confusion, if you want good skin all of these have to go!

Thankfully figuring out what looks good or bad is not the hard part – getting rid of them imperfections is the hard part. Unfortunately there are a myriad of reasons as to why this is very difficult. Acne and pimples are essentially bacterial infections directed into the skin of your face. There's no way to access them easily and they can be stressful to remove. There are similar problems to blackheads which are essentially clusters of dirt trapped in your pores.

A magnification mirror helps in the removal of these ailments dramatically because they allow you to see clearly what it is you're trying to remove. The removal of blackheads is very simply – you need to push the dirt out. Whether you use steam to heat your face and then open your pores to make them easier is irrelevant to this article. What is relevant is that when you come to the process of pushing them out you need to be able to clearly see what you are doing – your skin under magnification means you can much more easily view what you're doing and so the process is a lot easier.

Plastic Or Paper? The Plastic Bag Problem and One Person's Eco-Friendly Solution

The inimitable Frank Tinelli is a man of action. When he sees something of which he does not approve, he takes it in his own hands to fix. That happened when he became aware of this eco – unfriendly plastic bag problem. That, and the fact too much of our manufacturing is done done in China nowdays. He decided to resolve both dilemmas with one product, his MADE – IN – USA durable canvas tote bag with his original, trademarked 'Go Green' promotional logo.

Frank advocates reduce, reuse, and recycle which is prominent on his new logo: reduce toxic chemicals in our environment, reuse things versa throw them into the trash, and recycle what we have before we run out of it. His new product does all this and more.

Frank is now making and selling durable, reusable canvas tote bags with his logo on them. They are great for grocery shopping as well as other everyday uses such as book, beach, pool, and picnic bags. They are lightweight, sturdy, and easily fold up to tuck into your purse or pocket and can be whipped out to use in a jiffy. No more plastic bags for Frank! He's all canvas these days as are an increasing number of folks.

Plastic bags also irked the feisty Italian from New York City. "These plastic bags are everywhere doing damage to our environment. The last straw for me last month – I was driving behind a trash truck when one of those menaces blew out, hit my windshield flat, and blinded my line of sight! .. I. Damned near had an accident right then and there. That's it, I thought, I am going to do something about this problem. "

Plastic bags are coming under scrutiny of late in many cities across the United States and around the world most notably for the lasting effects that they have on the environment. Plastic bag manufacturing requires petroleum, perhaps natural gas, and chemicals which are environmentally harmful in the end.

It is estimated that the manufacturing costs of plastic bags exceeds $ 4 billion per year in the United States alone which are passed on to consumers. The trend will increasingly be a 'bring your own reusable bag' to the store policy – or pay for each plastic bag they provide. Legislation is moving through some state and local governments to charge a fee per bag. San Francisco has banned plastic bags.

In addition to manufacturing and consumer costs, there is an environmental cost to be factored into this equation. Untold damage to such things as sea life and other forms of animal life including birds and mammals are now recognized as a hazard. Seals and sea lions have been found to have collapsed the bags and died as a result. Sea turtles eat them. Gulls are another casualty of plastic bags and other plastic items discarded into the environment.

Most importantly, sometimes, is the disposal problems associated with plastic bags. It is estimated they may take hundreds of years to degree in our landfills. Tossed along our roads and in parks as litter, they disintegrate into smaller pieces which then chemically contaminate our soil and water systems. Not to mention the eyesores they become.

Mr. Tinelli, aka "Go Green Bag Man", has a goal: To get 100,000 of his bags into circulation this year. That, he calculates, will eliminate at least one million plastic bags. "Each bag I sell will bring me one closer to that goal and will reduce plastic bags by at least ten per, and probably lots more," Frank believes. He's on the way to achieving that goal. (I'm buying five today!)

That Frank has recognized this problem and is doing something about it is commendable. He is a 'true believer' in the concept of reduce, reuse, recycle as a way of life. We should all wish him well. He is doing his small part – may his quest 'From Bags to Riches' not only enrich him, but the environment and us, in turn, as well.

Six Pack Abs Exercises – Here's Why You Should Ditch The Repetitions

Do you ever do hundreds of reps to work your abs? Have not we all? As you may have read before, your abs are exactly like every other muscle in your body. That means, you must train your abs the exact same way as the rest of your muscle groups in your body.

To make this more clear, ask yourself this:

Would you do 200 press ups every day? Well, maybe some of you would, but most of us do a set amount, then move on.

Same thing applies to your abdominals. It makes no sense to do hundreds of repetitions of the same workout. That defeats the object of working out. Once your body becomes used to the routine, your muscles will become harder to train … and that's just a plain scientific fact.

Not only that, but you'll do serious damage and also get extremely bored of the endless repetition.

To make strength gains with your abs, you have to follow the same principles that apply everywhere else. That means you have to overload your muscles.

The reason we feel the need to do so many reps is that we're not working them hard enough, usually because of improper form. If you have to do 50 or more crunches before you feel fatigued, slow down and concentrate on your technique and having good form.

Do a variety of exercises to target your rectus abdominis, obliques and transverse abdominis.Don't just think of your abs as a way to look great … remember that their purpose is to support your spine and help you have good posture.

If you need more difficult exercises, consider getting a stability ball. Try these exercises:

* Reverse Crunch with the ball under the knees

* Plank on the ball with ab roll

At the end of the day, never force yourself to do things that are either enjoyable or giving you that feeling of a real progress (you know, when it aches comfortably, burns a little etc).

A mixture is the key to sticking it out, and if you are able to develop a system where diet directly contributes and assists your rapid weight loss, then you would be miles ahead of the game …

Various ideas can be synchronized and can be worked on by taking different time frame. It is very important that the total plan only contains essential and very vital details to be worked on.

Design to work upon an idea:

• Plans should be made quickly and only the evidence-based ideas should get the focus.
• Reduction of lead time is very important.
• Open work orders, excess inventory and overtime should be reduced.
• The planning for equitable inventory should make me easier by simplifying the idea.

Planning, plotting and implementation are the three basic steps to convert your normal idea into working ideas. There are online companies who give the real solutions to all your problems and dilemmas. People all over the world try these tricks and they get noticeable results.

How to Become a Better Chess Player

I have played chess for 35 years now, but only in the last 8 years or so have I taken the game seriously enough that I could consider myself an avid student. By reading books, using chess software to analyze games, and by hiring a coach I have been able to raise my game to a reasonable level (about 1800 FIDE rating, about one class below "expert", two below Master). Due to lack of time to commit to the game I did not pursue a higher rating, but I have gained a solid understanding of the path that must be walked in order to master the game. I still have much of the path to walk, but I do own the road map, so to speak.

Chess is broken down into various facets for the purpose of teaching and learning. Aside from the obvious necessity to learn how the pieces move, and the other rules of the game, chess lessons come in four basic subjects:

1. The opening. Sometimes this is simply common or "accepted" opening moves annotated for the purpose of memorizing, and sometimes it involves more principles than specific moves.

2. Tactics and combinations. This is how the pieces interact in the short term, and how one might take advantage of a weakness with a sacrifice, in order to gain a major advantage, or even an outright win. Checkmating falls into this category, except where it relates to the end game.

3. Strategy. This is the subject of long term objectives and how to obtain them. It can be sub-divided into two categories: piece placement and pawn structure.

4. End game. This is where the majority of the pieces are traded off and the emphasis turns to the attempt to promote a pawn to the last rank to gain a queen or another piece. The end game is often considered to have started when the King becomes a fighting piece.

Learning all of these subjects was an eye-opening experience, as I had no idea there was such a vast amount to learn. In fact, as I mentioned before there is still a lot left for me to work on! But I have always been a student of learning as well as a student of whatever subject I am studying, and I was left with a feeling that there was something missing from the process that could have made it easier, or perhaps more efficient.

My understanding of the chess learning process deepened when I started teaching a young fellow by the name of Tanraj Sohal. I learned as much by teaching him as he did, perhaps more so since he is a much more gifted player than I am. However, I had wisdom and experience on my side, and together we improved his game to the point that he won the Canadian Championship for his grade that year. To be fair, I should point out that he placed second the year before, when I was not coaching him, so I can not take much credit for this. But I can say that I did learn a lot about learning chess!

More than learning how to make good moves, getting better at chess is about learning how to not make bad moves. You can play solid chess for 30 or 40 moves, and then make one bad move and lose the game. The quality of your other moves may not have made a difference in your game, but the bad move certainly does. To prevent these bad moves, we have to overcome weaknesses in understanding, and we need to learn them so well that we will recognize them when the situations arise in game play.

Memorizing, or even being able to explain something is not enough. There needs to be an "aha!" moment that forever changes the way you look at the game. I have experience this enough, and seen it happen in other players enough to know that this is an absolute requirement to deepening your understanding of the game.

There are two problems with this, though. First, there are hundreds, sometimes thousands of "ahas" required to master the game. Second, they can be tough to achieve.

Why is this? Most because the average player has had most of his instruction from books. The "aha" factor occurs mostly with a combination of instruction and repetition. Books can certainly offer instruction, but if you have to set up the board up all over again just to repeat a lesson, or even move on to the next one, how often are you really going to repeat it? I know from experience it is often too much work to do the first time!

E-books may be even harder, since most players will find it difficult to set up a board on a computer desk; plus, flipping between text and board diagrams is harder with a PDF file than with a physical book.

In recent years there have been many new chess programs, and these are great for repetition, but I have yet to see one that gives adequate explanation for anything other than the basic lessons.

More recently there has been an introduction of chess videos that can be downloaded and played on your computer. These are usually just videos of a board from a chess program that the instructor is using to play through the moves of whatever he is teaching. The beauty of the video lesson is that not only does it come with verbal instruction (much easier to follow while watching the board than reading), but it is easily repeated. There is so little effort required that repetition seems to happen naturally.

I recently purchased a chess video lesson package, and I was amazed at how many "aha" moments I had. I was able to approach the lesson with more anticipation than with any other method. By anticipation, I do not mean eagerness; what I mean is that I was "seeing" the moves before they were played. Sometimes I was wrong, but the amount of times I was right told me that my game was already improving. Or, at the very least I was learning something new!

How to Find Everlasting Pleasure in Your Life

This is an amazing fact that it looks life is not a bed of roses, but whenever we get aware about it, we feel pleasure and everything returns us a joy with bliss. Let's find some excellent living standards to get always happy and successful all along our lives.

There are some mathematical truths which reveal fabulous ways to become ones rejuvenating; we have to set some criteria where we feel comfortable to assess and live with others in pleasant manner; a seven point formula is the same as seven steps, at every step you'll feel a risen in the vision.

1. Everything returns to us as a reaction:
Well, this is not any scientific theory else a nature truth, ie, throw a ball towards a wall, it will come back you with same speed but at slightly different angle. Whenever you meet someone with smiling face, even opposed is not with pleasant mood, you'll feel welcome attitude by the opponent.

2. Everything is not a Black Hole:
Sometimes we can not find the best suspect result from other person even struggle a lot. All our struggles go in vain, that's a "Black Hole" exists there, which is not reflecting anything. Do not get worry because this is not a suitable canvas to draw anything just ignore it and step forward.

3. Key to open others mind:
Well, really interesting point which sets your angle of success to 45 degree, a very simple announcement, "less talk but much listen", because nature has given us one mouth but two ears ….. Wow, you're the master when you find the "penetrating point" of others, how this comes? A simple experience show a unique truth, just find the others "food of interest", what's that? Everyone loves to talk, think and spend his time just for his "Interest", ie, which can be a book, a political talk, a movie, song etc. So, you must provide some "fruit to talk", and in return, enjoy the excited moments might be with a cup of tea / coffee or …

4. Nature's Law of Repulsion:
Hamm !! Mostly, People know about law of attraction and care about it, but most of the times do not care about nature's "Law of Repulsion". Many times we make and break relationships but ignore that loving one's, who neither close nor away from us. There is potential barrier occurs when we ignore someone, that's "a bitterness" in the relations which always produces repulsion. A hating attitude exits there which needs your attention. To overcome, the repulsive attitude just spent your time with your loving ones to set it cool. It breaks the repulsive potential barrier and brings the relations to pleasant atmosphere.

5. Never try to go in a forest, just share others:
Yeah! We are created to live among other people and not invited to stay in a forest, even in the stone ages people like to live together. Loneliness shows a depressive state of mind where one needs to be social, to participates others, it returns pleasant moments. Societies, cities, even villas looks same when we share others, but when we stay alone, it supposedly to be a forest.

6. A person walking on the road:
Strange! It's really strange when a person just walking on the road, suddenly, comes to us and takes part in our activities, share us, cheer us and have a cup of tea with us …, how it is possible? Only the possible strangers are your relationships, not others or just walking on the roads. We have to respect our close relationships and friends, who always provided to share us, cheer us, help us.

7. Centered attention:
Yes! Sometimes or habitually, we are in meeting with others but our attention is not focused, which extremely loses the others care about us. This is a return of our habit / action which is directly proportional to a loss of others interest with us. Consequences are understood and its need to get ride over attention which must be centered.

This is a beauty of life even if the people are not beautiful. By the same angle as said, everyone can reach at the beautiful landscape of life and can portrait it wonderfully. Expectantly, by the optimistic attitude, anyone can achieve a loving life which brings cheer and success for all.

First-time visitors should begin their Blackpool holiday by first visiting the town's nearest tourist information center. The three leading info centers are on Clifton Street; The Promenade and Ocean Boulevard. They are usually open from 9 am to 5 pm, Mondays to Saturdays.

For over 100 years, Blackpool has been such a magnificent tourist magnet, with an estimated 17 million visitors every year. Most of them are people from within the UK as well as many millions more than beyond, all of them drawn to Blackpool by the endless array of entertainment options, especially the many amusement arcades, rollercoasters, bingo halls and donkey rides, and the main attraction – the 518-foot Blackpool Tower. And let's not forget all the delightful pubs and nightclubs, the pristine golden sand and fish and chip shops.

Located on Central Promenade, the landmark Blackpool Tower began as an imitation of the Eiffel Tower in Paris in 1894. Despite standing for over 110 years, the tower is still one of Blackpool's most popular attractions. It houses a circus, an aquarium and a huge ballroom, but its main attraction is unduly the walk of Faith, a huge glass floor panel that is two inches thick and can carry the weight of five baby elephants.

Behind the Blackpool Tower is the Sea Life Center, a magnificent structure that provides an underwater journey into a colorful kingdom where stingrays, seahorses and a myriad other creatures dwell, including the largest school of sharks through Britain.

The popular Blackpool Pleasure Beach is a breathtaking attraction over at South Shore. It is the home of the Pepsi Max Big One, Europe's highest and faster rollercoaster. There are other hair-raising rides as well such as Bling, Valhalla and Spin Doctor. Visitors converge at the theme park which is best known for having the world's longest log flume.

There's nothing marks the status of a seaside town like the presence of a pier, and Blackpool has three of them. North Pier, the oldest of the lot, still oozes Victorian charm and boasts of the North Pier Theater and an impressive photo exhibit chronicling the pier's history.

At the very heart of the tourist belt is the Central Pier, a favorite destination of families for its traditional carnival fare such as the Big Wheel and Hook-A-Duck. It is a perfect complement to the South Pier, which offers a host of classic fairground rides as well as bungee jumping over the ocean and live entertainment.

The easiest way to tour the piers is by hitching a ride on the old-fashioned trams which constantly cruise the Promenade.

While in Blackpool, make it a point to visit the Blackpool Zoo, which houses 1,500 animals on its sprawling 32 acre spread, and the award-winning Sandcastle Waterworld, a tropical paradise where water slides criss-cross over a wave pool. If you're tired of touring and want to lounge on the beach, nothing beats the seven mile stretch that turns across Central Shore. On the other hand, you may also want to check out Blackpool's many shops and specialty boutiques which feature many high street names and colossal bargains.

When the sun goes down, follow the crowds trooping towards Blackpool's many pubs, clubs and restaurants that all face the soothing sea. And what better way to bask in that after-dinner glow than by visiting Blackpool's historic theaters whose fame has helped establish the town as the Northern capital of entertainment. The renovated Grand Theater stages everything from ballet performances to classic acts, while West End extravaganzas are the standard fare at the Opera House.

That's one of the best things about Blackpool: unlike many holiday resorts, the action does not end when the sun goes down. If you have the opportunity, visit Blackpool during autumn when a great throng of tourists come over to witness the traditional Blackpool Illuminations light extravaganza.

With so much going on, it's easy to lose one's way in Blackpool. But do not fret. The following are the three Blackpool Visitors Centers where travelers can get maps, informative leaflets and travel directions.

Secrets Revealed – Learn How to Play Lead Guitar Techniques! (Hammer Ons and Pull Offs)

Secrets disclosed: Learn how to play lead guitar techniques! (Hammer ons and pull offs)

For the fourth lesson of this series, I will be sharing with you a new technique called hammer on and pull off, which complement each other to produce 'trills'. However, if the notes consist only of hammer ons, they are called 'legatos'.

If you want to more about trills, check out the beginning of 'Paganini's fifth Caprice'. You will be blown away. Anyways, let's start the lesson proper.

Hammer on

A 'hammer on' is when a note is sounded, and while it is still ringing, another left hand finger is used to quickly press down a higher fret that is on the same string, and close to the original fret. So, the hammer on is only used to hit higher frets.

How do we execute a hammer on?
1. Play a note using your index finger; let's say on the 7th fret on the 3rd string.
2. Next, without releasing the 7th fret, use your middle finger or ring finger to hammer on the 9th fret. Do not forget to use some force or else it might not sound.
3. There you have it, a hammer on.

Pull off

A 'pull off' is basically the same thing, but backwards. While the note is still sounding, a finger can be placed directly behind the first finger, and then the first finger can be 'pulled off'. Essentially, the pull off is used to hit lower frets.

How to do a pull off?
1. Play a note using your ring finger; let's say on the 9th fret on the 3rd string, with your index finger on the 7th fret.
2. Forcefully pull down your ring finger and let the note on the 7th fret ring.
3. There you have it, a pull off.

How is a hammer on and pull off indicated?
—————- 'h' to indicate a hammer on
—————- 'p' to indicate a pull off
– 7 h 9 p 7 —
—————- As seen in the diagram, the hammer on and pull off is executed on the 3rd string, 7th fret and
—————- 9th fret respectively.
—————-

Take note: Doing the hammer on and pull off one after another continuously can be quite addictive but guess what, you just got yourself a new technique, a 'trill'. Enjoy!
