Abstract Paintings

If you think abstract paintings are a phenomenon of the 20th century, you can not be further from the truth. Islamic and Jewish religions have from their very beginnings prohibited the depiction of human forms. As a result, these religions developed a high skill in decorative art. And artists as early as James McNeill Whistler had begon talking of art as a depiction of visibly appealing colors, just as music was a presentation of appealing sound. Perhaps, Pablo Picasso and his style of painting, known as cubism (which used geometric figures to simplify or exaggerate complex structures such as the human form), were formally established and set in motion a trend of what came to be known as abstract painting.

Synonymous with abstract painting, cubism developed as a backlash to the impressionist era, which highlighted light and color. Painters of abstract art believed they could show, through the use of geometric figures, views of an image that can not actually be seen in real life. Famous among the many abstract paintings, are Pablo Picasso's Guernica and The Guitar Player.

Georges Braque was another cubist. He used to shade his cubes in a way that made them look both flat and three-dimensional at the same time. His famous paintings include The Fruit Dish and Violin and Pitcher.

Abstract paintings thrived with artists such as Piet Mondrain, who took cubism a step further and established what came to be called neoplasticism. The underlying belief of this art form was that art should not reproduce real forms, but express the absolutes of life, which, according to them, were only vertical and horizontal lines and primary colors.

After neoplasticism came abstract expressionism, an art form that celebrated not forms, objects or images, but colors and brush strokes. Mark Rothko's painting Red, Orange, Tan and Purple is one of the best abstract paintings in this from.

Abstract paintings, in essence, moved away from depicting life forms as they appeared, towards depicting them as interpretations, and showing emotions through colors.

Building Muscles, Weight Lifting, Tips For Getting The Body You Want

I want to build muscle, I want to have big muscles, what must I do? The answer is simple! Start lifting weights, set your goals, eat proper and rest!

Here are some tips to help you start:

First tip is: Set your goals! Do not be over optimistic, do not be over pessimistic in setting your goals. Just be realistic! No one can become a bodybuilding champ over night. Do not fool yourself, today I will lift 10000 pounds and tomorrow I will look like Terminator. Start by knowing your body and you will quickly learn what is a realistic goal for you. Write your realistic goals down, make a schedule. People make plans in their head and forget them, write your plans on a paper. Read your goals, follow a schedule. When you will feel down, look at your goals and what you already achieved and your mood will go up. Follow a routine of your schedule! Make yourself a training program and follow it. Once you get in a rhythm, you will feel great and your body will be grateful!

Next tip is: Ask people, learn more about training, about lifting weights …! It is true the bodybuilding is a individual sport, but do not be afraid to ask people for the advice, ask your trainer, ask a friend. Trust me, people will help you if you ask them nicely. Knowledge is power is also true for bodybuilding.

The following tip is: You must overload / stress your muscle! Only way to build your muscle and gain strength is to stress your muscle. Bigger weight means bigger muscle! Do not over exceed yourself as you might heart yourself! Warm up by lifting smaller weights. Start slowly, use smaller weight, less repetitions, then steadily add more weight, and later more repetitions. If you would always lift the same amount of weight, then your progress will stop. So try to add more repetitions with lifting the same weight or add more weight with the same repetition or decrease the rest time between your repetitions.

The last tip is: Proper nutrition and proper rest! You may set your goals, lift heavy weights, but without proper nutrition and proper rest there will not be any progress. Your muscle as your body needs energy to work. The energy comes from the proper nutrition! Without proper nutrition you will be easily tired, so trust me when I say that proper nutrition is the key. The proper nutrition will have 40% of carbohydrates, 40% of protein and 20% of fat. The muscle growth happens while you sleep and rest so it is very important to rest and sleep properly.

Fascinating Commercial Airline Statistics For Every Flight Attendant And Passenger

Did you know that more than three million people around the world fly on commercial aircraft every day?

Did you know that Boeing aircraft state that, In the United States, it’s 22 times safer flying in a commercial jet than traveling by car, according to a 1993-95 study by the U.S. National Safety Council. The study compares accident fatalities per million passenger-miles traveled. The number of U.S. highway deaths in a typical six-month period of about 21,000 roughly equals all commercial jet fatalities worldwide since the dawn of jet aviation four decades ago. In fact, fewer people have died in commercial airplane accidents in America over the past 60 years than are killed in U.S. auto accidents in a typical three-month period.

Did you know that aircraft have brakes on their wings?

Aircraft have what they call lift dumpers on their wings that spring up into the air upon landing. This does two things. One, it creates resistance to the oncoming airflow and the disturbance that it creates causes drag. Two, the lift dumpers gradually nullify the lift component of the wing the further they are raised into the air steam. On landing this transfers the aircraft weight from the wings directly to the ground enabling maximum braking effectiveness from the wheel brakes.

These lift dumpers have three protective security safety deployment requirements before they will fully engage to avoid inadvertent full deployment in the air. If of course they did fully deploy in mid air, the aircraft would be in a serious flight situation. The result would defiantly be earth bound!

Did you know that Aircraft are frequently hit by lightning?

In fact, aircraft are designed around the fact that they will be hit by lightning and have special electrical discharge wicks to dissipate the electrical energy from the aircraft when this does happen. These discharge wicks are on the trailing edge of the ailerons, rudder and elevator control surfaces. They are approximately 12 to 20cms long. Without the discharge wicks to disperse the electrical current there would be a substantial risk that the control surface linkages could be welded together resulting in nil response to pilot maneuver commands resulting in a possible catastrophic situation.

Did you know that warm air from the engine is used to heat up the wings?

When outside air temperatures fall below zero and there are atmospheric conditions conducive to icing, then heated air from the engines is drawn from them and routed along the leading edges of the wings. This is to keep the wing above zero degrees so as to prevent the build up of ice on the wings.

Ice formulation on a wing severely disrupts the flow of air over it affecting the capacity of the wing to produce lift. If this was allowed to go to the extreme the lift component of the wing would fall below the point required for the aircraft to fly and the aircraft would literally fall out of the sky. The ice also dangerously adds to the weight of the aircraft which could develop to a catastrophic state itself.

Pros and Cons of Spaghetti Integration & Star Integration

A few years ago, IKEA released a VERY hilarious commercial to promote its simple and clean furniture line to organize a home or office space. In short, the commercial opened with an attractive couple, in a rather unattractive and untidy room, sharing a single spaghetti dinner. They savored and slurped each noodle as suggestively as a bowl of pasta can possibly be eaten. The female — with eyes closed, head to plate, mesmerizing her partner with her technique — was so engrossed in her sensual display that she accidentally mistook as another noodle her boyfriend’s filthy shoelaces which, of course, were tied to his even filthier sneakers. (If this is too gross for you, that may help to explain why it was banned in the US.) The commercial faded out and ended with a silent, but poignant reminder: “Tidy Up”.

Just like with an untidy room, a spaghetti integration (or star integration) may take months, even years, to get to the point of being disorderly. Traditionally, each department in an organization may use independent systems to meet their own needs so that they are autonomous and easier to manage internally. Then, as new requirements arise, as an organization grows, and as inter-departmental communication becomes more important, point-to-point interfaces develop to tie each autonomous system together – hence, a badly-planned “spaghetti” of systems arises.

So, what’s wrong with that, you say? Here are my top 3 cons:

1. Just as a cluttered room is a sign of a cluttered mind, a disorganized system is a sign of a disjointed IT management team. Taking the most expedient, quick-and-dirty, route to integration is a sign of little collective system management efforts. This lack of foresight leads to complications and problems in the long run… see #2.

2. Making changes to a single application or database in a star integration can be costly. Sure, it’s easier to make quick changes in a single system, giving the organization the appearance of agility. But, when those changes lead to a collection of functionality that is characteristically not reusable and buggy, the cost of maintaining that new functionality will rise exponentially as your system grows.

3. Business Intelligence suffers as company data that lives in multiple places in a spaghetti integration is more difficult to consolidate into a single and useful data-mart. This makes it harder to paint a clear picture, whether it be analytical or operational, of the organization as a whole, and to keep from being reactionary and inflexible in the long run. But spaghetti integration isn’t all bad. New application features can be implemented quickly, and because system component structure is not as rigid, there is an advantage of flexibility in deployment.

Plastic Surgery Jobs For Men

Do you believe that women are the only ones obsessed with their looks? Do you think only women want to preserve their bodies with plastic surgery? Well, I have to say you will need to think again about that.

It may sounds weird to you, but men these days are just as likely as women to have one of many plastic surgery jobs. The difference between genders is not so great as it was before. Besides that, people live much longer and healthier lives then 100 years ago, so it's not unnatural that both genders want to look young and fresh. And why should not they look young? They feel young, there is lots of energy that keeps them moving forward in life and it is a thing worth respecting, a wonderful thing for every human being.

But something is missing in that picture. The people who feel so strong and powerful are also realistic. And the look in the mirror tells them anther story, it tells them that the youth and strength they feel inside is not actually there. And that is the critical moment where those fantastic energetic people lose their positive energy and the will to fight in life. The thoughts in their head are not the same as they were 10 years ago and they begin to change. Then men and women really DO become old.

Taking that into consideration, can you really think there is something wrong with washing for a plastic surgery? If a man has a chance to improve his looks and he can easily afford one of many plastic surgery jobs out there, why not? The person will then get more from life and feel satisfied on many levels of life.

The statistics we have and plastic surgeons say that a man will have a plastic surgery for two different reasons:

1. To look younger and prosper in his workplace

2. To create an image of attractiveness and energy.

Having a job these days is not as easy as it was 30 years ago. The competition demands more from a man and everything comes into consideration with a final goal – who can deliver best results. If we compare two different men on who are providing the same results, who do you think will suit company better? The man that looks younger, of course. Maybe you think that is unethical, but is also a reality.

There is something about the look of a younger man that gives him more respect and more points at the end of the day. He looks so promising, he gives away a feeling of good future and stability for the company. If a man looks old, it gives out the idea that his time is over and reputation he has not so strong anymore.

Take a second and think about this. Try to remember how your one hour week in the office looks like. Have you ever felt that some days you have more influence and other days not? Could it be because on some occasions you've felt more energetic and were bursting with self-esteem? I know you realize what I am talking about. When a person lives to see more bad then good days for a while, it starts to think what kind of help can it find. At that time, the plastic surgery becomes a realistic option.

There are many plastic surgery jobs for men, but lets see what are first five of them:

1. Hair transplantation

2. Rhinoplasty

3. Breast reduction

4. Eyelid surgery

5. Botox.

These top five plastic surgery jobs are not much different from the top five plastic surgery operation for women. We will go into detail of every procedure accounted here in another articles.

What is most important thing to do if you decide to have a plastic surgery is: always consult a board certified plastic and ask specific questions you need to know about any of these five plastic surgery jobs.

How to Avoid Ghosts in Hotel Rooms

The advises listed here are for people who travel frequently and stay in hotels, motels, rented apartments and hostels.

Always call the hotel in advance to reserve the room. Avoid walk-in. Sometime the hotel has full occupancy and you may desperately request them to find a room for you. Most hotels have a special vacant room kept for “special guests”, that are ghosts or wandering spirits. At that point of time, the hotel may allow you to check-in to that special room due to your desperate request. Do not check-in to that special room. Check-in to other hotels.

Before entering the room, always knock the door to respect the “special guests” although it is understood that the room is vacant. Sometime the “special guests” may be inside the vacant room.

After entering room, and if you or/and any accompanying family members feel unusual cold or/and smell something stinky similar to decomposed rat; leave the room immediately. Do not proceed to find out the problems. Please note that the air-conditioning system was off by the central air-con thermostat or remote control. If possible, check-out this hotel and check-in to other hotel or otherwise change room.

Prior to check-in, always ask a room which is near to human traffic such as lift lobby etc. Do not check-in to a room which is at end of a corridor. This is because the last room has less occupancy rate which is very “yin”.

After entering the room, switch on the lights and open window curtains to allow sunlight to come in. Sunlight is “yang” energy.

When you go to bed, always switch on one light. It is up to your choice which light you prefer to switch on. Example : toilet light, bedside light or entrance light etc. This is to supply “yang” energy in the room during the night.

Before you go to bed, always turn one shoe upside down ( either left or right ). This is to form “yin-yang”, a balanced energy in the room so that you can sleep without disturbances.

If you are staying alone in a twin beds room, always put something like your luggage or clothing on to the other bed before you sleep.

After you enter the room, and you see an opened bible or islam book or other religious book on the writing desk, do not touch or close the bible, leave the room immediately. Request to change room or check-in to other hotel. This is because there is/are ghosts or evil spirits creating troubles in the room to the previous guests.

One last advise, carry a Feng-Shui compass with you. It has a few benefits for you beside being used for Feng-Shui audits. Hold the compass in your hands and enter the room. If the compass needle fluctuates violently as you moves around in the room, this indicates that there are ghosts or wandering spirits in the room. The room is very “yin” and has no steady magnitude of magnetic fields. Do not disturb the ghosts and leave the room immediately. You may also carry some talisman or religious items with you to protect yourself from harms.

Decide, Solve, or Adapt

Decision-making and problem-solving are closely related. Effective problem-solving demands making the right decision. And, if you'll pardon the pun, herein lies the problem.

We all make mistakes; no one can make the right decision every time. As parents, one lesson we learn, and are usually reminded by our kids on a regular basis, is that we do not get it right every time. We do the best we can with what we know at the time. It's comforting to know, therefore, that even acknowledged leaders do not make the right decision every time. Napoleon, for example, lost (to death and desert) more than 90% of his half-million troops when he invaded Russia. Mao's 'leadership' killed tens of millions of his people. Churchill stuffed-up poorly the Gallipoli campaign that claimed the lives of tens of thousands of soldiers. John F. Kennedy will be remembered for the Bay of Pigs fiasco (he somehow persuaded himself that 1400 US-trained Cuban exiles might defeat 200,000 troops and topple Fidel Castro).

What matters most for the parents, leaders, and other (human) decision-makers is to learn from their mistakes and adapt.

When it comes to problem-solving, therefore, it's not surprising that trial-and-error remains as an accepted way to solve problems. I recently experienced a problem with my telephone. I did not know if it was the line, the handset, the filter, or the wall-socket. A (Telstra in the Land of Oz) technician was able to secure me that the line-connection was fine. I then disconnected the handset and connected it to a wall-socket that I knew was working well. The handset worked brilliantly, so I was able to eliminate the handset as a problem-cause. I reconciled the handset and replaced the existing filter with a new one. The problem persisted. By trial and error, I isolated the problem to the wall-socket. I fixed the socked: problem-solved.

This is not to suggest that we should leave everything to trial and error or relly on that approach, completely. After all, repeated failure is severely an essential ingredient of success. Again, we need to learn from our mistakes and adapt as quickly as possible.

We've come a long way in our knowledge of decision-making and problem-solving. The toothpaste is out of the tube and there's no getting it back. The key message is to learn from our mistakes and adapt accordingly.

In the world of problem-solving and decision-making, Alexander Pope's 'To err is human, to forgive divine' could become To err is human, so learn to adapt – regularly and quickly.

The Power of Positive Imagining

When Norman Vincent Peale wrote "The Power of Positive Thinking", he was a addressing a very important problem that we humans all tend to suffer from to a greater or lesser extent while in physical form. He was talking about self-confidence and belief in oneself. The opening sentences of his book are, "Believe in yourself! Have faith in your own abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you can not be successful or happy.

Just a little further on, he continues, "It is appalling to realize the number of pathetic people who are hampered and made miserable by the malady popularly called the inferiority complex. it can be overcome. You can develop creative faith in yourself – faith that is justified. "

Norman Vincent Peale was right, of course. His book should be mandatory reading for humanity. But a strange thing has happened over time. People have lost sight of what his concept of positive thinking was all about.

Today, with our "make it easy" mindset, we have tried another path of little resistance. "Thinking" has become just words, mind-chatter, and perhaps affirmations repeated endlessly. We have lost sight of the true power and force – emotion.

The difference between simply thinking and imagining is emotion. When we think, we talk to ourselves, most often clinically, sterility and with every effort to be objective. When we imagine, we get in the feeling of what we are thinking. When we imagine, we move for a time, into the place that we imagine. We can touch, feel, hear, smell, taste the thing we imagine. Of course, the thought of the thing is there, but it is accompanied by emotion.

When we positively imagine our life, we make changes. When we see our life as we want it to be and feel that life, we create that life. As Neville Goddard has said, when we "live in the feeling of the wish fulfilled", we are on our way to manifesting that wish.

More than positive thinking, more than positive sounding words or pleasant mind-chatter, real change comes from positive imagining. Living with all the good the feelings of the thing we are thinking and dreaming about. Of course, positive thinking is better than negative thinking anytime … but when change is what you want, put emotion into the thought and turn it into positive imagining.

Sequential Follow Up In Treating Recurrent Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma With Photodynamic Therapy

OBJECTIVES

o Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is endemic in certain parts of Asia, such as Southern China, but occurs sporadically in the Western world

o At Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, Jakarta, there are 90-120 new cases each year

o NPC is sensitive to both radiotherapy and chemotherapy (the first line treatment for NPC is irradiation)

o Several therapeutic modalities have been used in recurrent NPC including external irradiation, brachytherapy, chemotherapy, neck dissection, and combinations of those treatment. Serious side effects are seen following re-irradiation

METHODS

o Foscan (mTHPC, meta-tetrahydroxyphenilchlorin, temorphfin) is a second-generation photosensitizer which is activated by red light (652nm).

o It is a purified synthetic compound with a photophysical efficiency that allows short treatment times (typically 100 to 300 seconds), using small drug dosages

o The period of skin photosensitivity is approximately 2 weeks following injection of Foscan

BACKGROUND

o Photodynamic therapy is a therapeutical concept based on the ability of a number of photo-sensitizers to concentrate in tumor's tissue

o Light of a specific wave length illuminating the sensitized cells can then be used to cause selective necrosis of the tumor

o The tumor is readable by fiberoptic delivery of light energy that facilitating selective tumor destruction while sparing surrounding tissue

o Squamous cell carcinomas of the head and neck have been shown to respond favorably to PDT

o An induced period of generalized photosensitivity remains a side effect of Photodynamic therapy

CASE REPORT

o We reported a 59-year-old man with recurrent stage II NPC post-external radiation 50 Gy locoregional, 2 Gy / day, 5 day / week, with booster 20 Gy into tumor bed seven months earlier

o Foscan was injected with dosage 0.1 mg / kgBW, 48 hours before illumination with PDT

CONCLUSION

o Photodynamic therapy could be an effective local treatment modality for recurrent or persistent nasopharyngeal carcinoma

o PDT treatment of recurrent / persistent NPC has become feasible using a novel nasopharyngeal applicator

o Sequential follow up is necessary and useful for the patient to proof mucosal changes after illumination of photodynamic therapy

How to Take Awesome Indoor Portraits – Discover 5 Secret Keys to Amazing Portraits & Still Lifes

I would like to share with you some valuable keys on how to take better indoor portraits and still life photographs. These are insider secrets I've learned over the past 33 years as an avid photographer. They are not something I learned in a class or studied at college. Rather, they are things that I've picked up along the way that have helped make me the successful inspirational photographer that I am today.

Key # 1 – If you're doing a portrait of a person or a still life of an object, always begin by paying attention to the background. What's in the background? What is behind the subject? Ask yourself if the background is distracting for any reason. What is the lighting in the background like? Is it bright glaring light from the reflection of a car window, or is it a bright sky with too much light, or is it a bunch of junk in someone's garage or living room? You have to learn to pay attention to what's behind your subject because whatever it is, it's going to be in your photograph, and there's a high likelihood that it will be distracting. Once you observe the background, you must decide if it's a distraction or not. If it is, then you need to either move your subject or you need to move and shoot the subject from a different angle. Do whatever you need to do to get rid of a distracting background. If you're shooting a close up of a flower, you may need to bend an exquisite flower out of the way or break it off completely so that it's not in the way. In summary, pay close attention to the background, and make sure that it is not distracting. This one simple key will save you from wrecking many good photographs.

Key # 2 – The most important element in your photograph is the lighting. Ask yourself what the light is doing as you look through your viewfinder. Look for the highlights and the shadows and the midtones. Pretend you're color blind and try to see everything through the tonal composition of black and white rather than color. Colors are deceiving. They capture your attention with their beauty, but they disguise what the light is doing in terms of highlights and shadows. Do not let this happen to you. Learn to look past the colors and try to see the black and white and gray tones that they represent and are reflecting to your lens. A great photograph will have a broad spectrum of tones from very dark to very light, from true black to variations of gray to true white. The more variation of tones you are able to capture in the image, the better the lighting and contrast will be in the photograph. This is extremely important in black and white photography. It is equally important in color photography, but it's easier for people to get away with less variations of tones because most viewers will be distracted by the colors.

Key # 3 – One of the best kinds of light to use in portrait and still life photography is soft diffused window light. Let's say you want to take a photograph of your grandson. Find a room in the house that has natural diffused light coming in through the window. Do not use a room that has direct light coming through the window because that is too bright / strong. Instead, look for a window where indirect light comes in and diffuses through the room. That's the best light to use for a portrait or a still life.

Key # 4 – Your best friend should always be your tripod . Always take it with you wherever you go because you never know when you're going to need it. In the above scenario with your grandson, sit him near the window on a chair where he's comfortable and where he can sit still. Then set up your tripod, attach your camera, and check on the lighting in the room and on the subject's face. Use your built-in light meter to measure the amount of light on the grandson's face, and then adjust your aperture and shutter speed correctly. Remember key # 1 and make sure there's no distractions in the background. If you need to, hang a big blanket or sheet behind him to give you a neutral solid background that is not distracting and will actually enhance the subject. I forgot to mention that the reason you're going to need a tripod is that the light will be low in the room. Using a tripod will keep you from shaking the camera and blurring the image. You will also need to make sure that your camera does not use the built-in flash to try to make up for the low light conditions. You may have to disable the flash so that you can take the photo without it. One more point, instruct your subject not to move when you take the photograph; otherwise, the image will be blurred.

Key # 5 – Learn how to use your aperture and shutter speed in proper conjuction in order to control your "depth of field." You may be asking, "What in the world is depth of field?" Depth of field is simply how much of the depth of the photograph is in focus and how much of it is out of focus and blurred. In other words, depth of field is the zone of acceptably sharp focus surrounding the area actually focused on. Generally, when you are taking portraits or still life photographs, you want the background out of focus or blurred to some degree in order to enhance the sharp focus of the subject. Here's what you will want to do to achieve this result. Begin by focusing on the eyes of the subject, in this case, the grandson's eyes. This is the most important part of a person's face that needs to be in sharp focus. Then decide how much of the subject's head you want in focus. If you want to have the whole head in focus, then you should probably choose a middle aperture setting of around 5.6 or 8. If you decide to have only one eye in focus, then you would create a narrow depth of field by using a lower f-stop of 2.8. On the other hand, if you wanted his whole head in focus and the piano behind him in focus, you would need to create a deep depth of field by using a high f-stop of 16 or 22.

In conclusion, there are several keys to taking high-quality indoor portraits and still lifes. Remember to always check the background and make sure it is not distracting. Then study the available light that you plan on using and try to see the image through black and white tones, highlights, and shadows. Find a room in the house or in the basement where there is soft diffused window light to use to light the face of your subject. Make sure to always use a tripod so that you can set the shutter speed at the correct slow speed to capture the available low light. Using a tripod will keep you from shaking the camera and blurring the image. And finally, learn how to use your aperture and shutter speed in proper conjunction to control your depth of field to get everything you want in focus and everything else out of focus. Take a lot of shots and have fun with various poses.

Gold, Silver and the Gathering Crypto Currency Storm

Much controversy surrounds comparisons between precious metals and the growing number of crypto currencies. In some ways an ideological wedge has formed between hard asset investors and the most vocal of electronic currency advocates.

While both investment options remain relatively sequestered from the mainstream spotlight, they both offer fascinating perspectives for understanding the ongoing monetary and financial crisis.

Crypto Storm

The rise of decentralized, anonymous, and freely traded electronic currencies has worked its way into the technology and media.

While Bitcoin, is the poster child, having gained the most attention and participation, there are nearly 100s of other much smaller currencies and more being developed all the time.

The Rising Tide of Social Media

The culture of social media will continue to play a major role in the rise of the some of the currencies. They represent another tier of commerce within a media format that has the potential to foment revolution.

Most new forms of media are fairly easy to criticize. Social media has it’s problems. The inherent lack of privacy and a thin the line emerging between the mainstream media’s exploitation and the utility of delivering pertinent information versus entertainment and therefore propaganda as an extension of public relations and advertising.

The Currency of Social Media

Many of the newer e-currencies are introduced by directly leveraging social media. Obviously they start of small, but many can be collected via sites that offer coins for free. These so called crypto-faucets effectively seed new mine production. Many are used as tokens given as reward or tip for posting newsworthy or entertaining content on blogs, forums, or on other social media channels.

Some see these techniques as a shadow of those used in promoting penny stocks and almost all share significant and often wild price volatility.

Controversy almost matches

100s of new crypto currencies have been created. Many associated with the social media phenomenon, yet they have not quite reached in to the mainstream in terms of awareness, and especially adoption.

Early adoption – volatility

Bitcoin is just one of many and happens to be the most popular for now. In some ways it is Naturally the focus of ridicule and criticism. Observers are quick to compare its recent rise to a mania, and equally swift at pointing out its use in the electronic black market.

Store of Wealth and Properties

The comparison between the relative “ideal” monetary attributes of the precious metals versus crypto currency can be a divisive exercise. But when the comparison in includes fiat currency, it becomes more compelling.

Finite Supply – precious metals and most crypto have a finite supply. The purest will argue that precious metals are much more ubiquitous than often assumed, but we simply don’t have the energy or technology to efficiently identify and mine metals from the ocean floor.

Portability – all three alternatives are generally portable, though for the individual, moving large amounts of silver and gold to a certain extent can become difficult or at least more costly.

Fungible – all three are fungible.

Non-forgeable – the fiat dollar is the only one of the three that is capable of being forged.

Divisible – all forms are essentially divisible.

Privacy – precious metals, but especially crypto currency are private in the sense that ownership can be basically hidden.

Acceptance – the dollar and precious metals are widely accepted – though in the developed world precious metals are more indirectly accepted. Crypto currencies have yet to achieve significant acceptance and this is the major factor preventing its widespread acceptance. Although the trend is likely to grow.

Confiscation and theft resistance – both precious metals and fiat currency are relatively more susceptible at this point to theft and/or confiscation. The technology and software code capable of breaking the cryptographic signature for the newest electronic currencies is impressively difficult to come by.

Durability – by it’s very nature, the dollar is the least durable of the three, and relative lack of adoption and newness places makes durability and gray area for e-currencies.

Acceptance is the key one key limiting factor separating crypto currency from monetary status or store of value. It is hard to imagine widespread acceptance given the barriers to acceptance. A certain amount of savvy, from technological capability, to the infrastructure required for its spread.

Indeed, after a recent visit to South America, and interacting with the many of the financial elite, it is clear that widespread adoption is some time away.

Nevertheless, social media could ultimately provide the trigger for fast adoption.

Relatively speaking, and while not necessarily a requirement for monetary status, acceptance of precious metals certainly exhibits a robustness that certainly crypto currencies and the fiat dollar (even as reserve currency) do not possess based on time and tradition.

Policy also interferes with what could be a more widespread adoption, but generally for the average man, the worker, there has been a severe lack of ability to deal with any and all technological and competitive challenges.

Money Velocity

Volumes can easily explode, and many of these currencies will see huge percentage moves as more and more people searching for yield become aware.

Sadly, it is more likely that adoption of crypto currencies and/or the return to monetary metals will be missed by the majority. The nature of the ongoing financial crisis, and it’s brittle fragility caused by the ignorance of risk from the top down is such that money velocity will explode from a massive base if paper currency creation
