2 Sewing Techniques On How To Sew A Reversible Vest

For both methods, follow these cutting and sewing instructions:

Choose similar weight fabrics for a reversible vest.

Preshrink all fabrics and interfacing.

Interface the vest with a fusible knit interfacing.

Test the interfacing on a scrap of fabric first to make sure it will be OK.

Depending on the fabric, you may choose to interface both of the fronts and back of the vest.

Note: You may want to interface the fabric and then cut the vest pieces out of the interfaced fabric.

Carefully cut two fronts and one back from each fabric.

Make sure the front and back vest pieces are the same size in both fabrics after you cut them out. Lay one over the other to check it.

Apply any pockets or designs to each front and back layer.

For each layer:

Place right sides of the fabric together and stitch the front and back shoulder seams together. Do NOT backstitch.

Instead begin and end each seam with short stitches (18-20 per inch) for about 1 to 1-1/2 inches.

Sandwich press the seams.

Press the seams open.

At the neck and shoulder point of the shoulder seam, trim the shoulder seam allowance back at an angle for about 1-1/2 inch to eliminate bulk when the neck and armhole seams are made.

Also trim the shoulder seams of one of the layers to be just slightly less than the other layer to stagger or grade the seams when they lay on top of each other.

Continue with either Method I or Method II to finish the vest.

Method I – How To Sew To Complete A Stitched And Turned Reversible Vest

Place the two vests right sides together.

Note: Generally, when sewing a lined vest, it is a good idea to trim off about 1/8 inch from the lining before attaching it to the outer layer. This keeps the lining from showing on the outside when the vest is worn.

For a reversible vest, you may or may not want to do this.

If a bit of one of the layers shows on one of the sides, it may look like narrow piping. You are the designer. Create the look you want.

Stitch the vests armhole edges together using short stitches (18-20 stitches per inch) all the way.

Sandwich press these seams.

Press the seams open.

Trim the armhole seams to 1/8 inch seam allowance. The short stitches will hold this seam.

If this is a lined vest, understitch the armhole seams and all of the other seams as well. If it is reversible, you may not want the understitching to show on the edge.

Sewing Tip: Always use short stitches and trim to 1/8 inch seam allowance to stitch a curve. Then understitch if possible. It produces a much cleaner, sharper curve instead of trimming to 1/4 inch and clipping. Try it!

After the armholes are finished, place the two right sides of the vest back together again lining up all the edges. Pin to hold the layers.

Stitch the front and neckline together.

Begin stitching about 2 inches from the side seam on the bottom of the front and stitch across the bottom of the front, up the center front and around the neck and down on the other side of the front stopping about 2 inches from the other side seam.

Use a regular stitch length to stitch across the bottom of the front and up the front. Change to a short stitch length to stitch the curve around the neck.

Sandwich press the seam.

Press the seam open.

Trim the curved area around the neck to 1/8 inch.

Trim the rest of the seam to 1/4 inch.

Hold the scissors at an angle when you trim to help layer or grade the seam allowances or use “duckbill” scissors to help do this.

Sewing Tip: Always stagger the edges of seam allowances when they end up laying on top of each other in a finished garment.

Turn the vest right side out by pulling the fronts through the shoulders one side at a time.

Press well setting the seam lines exactly on the edge.

With right sides together, match the armhole seams and pin exactly through the stitching line to hold one on top of the other.

Stitch the side seams of both layers in one continuous step carefully walking the needle over the underarm pin.

Sandwich press the seam.

Press the seam open.

You may want to leave the full seam allowance here in case you have to let the vest out sometime.

Now, you have the bottom of the back open and about 2 inches on either side of the side seam toward the front.

Turn right sides together matching up the side seams. Put a pin exactly in the line of stitching in the side seams to hold one on top of the other.

Starting at one front side where you stopped stitching previously, stitch across the bottom until you come to about 2 inches from the next side seam pin and stop leaving about a 4 inch opening on that side.

Sandwich press the seam.

Press the seam open.

Press under the unstitched seam allowances as though they were stitched.

Trim and grade the seam allowances to about 1/4 inch.

Turn the vest right side out through the 4 inch opening at the side lower edge. This opening is better than having the opening in the middle of the center back. It isn’t as noticeable.

Press well again.

At the opening, turn in and line up the edges.

To finish this opening, slip stitch it closed by hand or place a narrow strip of fusible web and fuse it closed.

If desired, topstitch the vest 1/4 inch from the edges.

Make buttonholes on both sides of the vest.

Sew 2 buttons together making a thread shank in between them. Use these double buttons through both buttonholes like cuff links. You can even use 2 different buttons as

long as they are the same size to fit through the holes.

Method II

Another method to finish your reversible vest is to sew each vest with shoulder seams and side seams.

Place the vests with wrong sides together.

Stitch 3/4 inch all around the armholes and the outer edges of the vest holding the 2 layers together.

Trim off 5/8 inch all around.

Bind all the outside edges either with self fabric, contrasting fabric, or a fold over trim or braid to finish.You can even use a decorative serged edge to finish the vest.

This is fast and easy!

The Difference Between Pave And Bead Set Rings

Folks confuse “pave” with “bead set” all the time. There is a reason for that. Let me make one vital point right off the top of the answer. This part you may not have thought about. Manufacturers spend time in designs and working out the details for each and every piece of jewelry they produce. In almost all cases, the manufacturer holds a copyright on the design. The copyright is a legal protection against another company making “knock-offs” or duplicates of their work and selling the duplicates.

The confusion is in the words used.”Bead setting” is a particular form of setting stones into metal. Pave is more of a design of the set stones and bead setting is the technique for setting stones in a pave pattern.

The bead setting is the technique. Pave is the pattern. A single mans ring may have a bead set stone in the center. The stone is bead set but the work is not pave. Think of pave as you would a cobble stone street or brick after brick, literally paved with bricks. In pave the idea is to “pave” the surface with stones..that is pave. Bead setting is the method to hold the stones in place.

The ring may or may not be bead set. And this is not pave. Pave in the strict sense covers an expanded area and not just one row of stones. That does not matter. Really, the name does not matter if this ring is the look you want. I suspect the setting is cast with raised prong-like parts to make the setting easier than actual bead setting.

That is fine when done correctly and better than bead setting if the bead setting is done in less than the best manner. Bead setting can provide the same look but is more labor intensive to do correctly.

In bead setting, a sharp chisel-like tool called a graver is used to set the stones. First, a seat or hole for the stone is cut into the metal. Then the graver is pushed down into the metal just to the outside of the stone. The point of the graver makes metal move toward the stone. This process is repeated until all the stone is secure with enough metal over the “corners” to hold securely.

Then a tool with a rounded hollow end called a beading tool is pressed onto the metal pressed onto the stone. The beading tool makes the metal form into an attractive looking “bead” of metal. Now you can see where the term “bead set” originates.

Now, here is a question to ponder. How can the ring be made for less cost to you than the ready made one? Considering the prices we must charge to make molds, do castings and set stones for one item only, the price would be at least if not more than the one offered by the maker originally. We do not make copies of copyright designs but do enough custom manufacturing to know our real costs of doing a single ring or other jewelry item.

The only way I see the ring being less costly if the jeweler makes it is to use lower quality stones, less stones perhaps or lower karat of gold. The ring made up may also be of a much less favorable manufactured quality than the original ring, a means to cut costs. If we tried to duplicate the ring you showed, using 14k instead of the 19k used, our price to the customer for equal or better technical quality would still be more than some of the other makers rings.

Labor for doing a single ring is the reason and stone setting costs incurred. Our jewelers do all the work and we do not have specialized persons doing only stone setting as do large manufacturers.

Suggestion: Look closely at the rings or jewelry made by the jeweler with whom you have conferred. How well done is the work? Is all neat and clean to the eye? Ask about stone quality, etc. Do you want a product as fine as the original or a step below, or better? These are thoughts to consider seriously. I tell it just like I see it; that is only fair to you.

I don’t want to scare you about copyrights. Maybe this will help. To directly copy another’s design is infringement of the copyright. To choose a “similar style” generally is not infringement. For instance, many makers of jewelry make rings with stones set side by side along a row in a ladies ring. A ring with stones set like this and with decorative sides made up by your jeweler but not a direct copy should not be a problem with copyright.

A ready made mounting for rows of stones may be available(unset with stones) which will be perfectly fine for you. This is an option I did not mention at first. If a ready made mounting can be found with the look you want, the job will likely be less costly than having a ring made from scratch.

We often know that we want to change something in our life and may even have attempted to do so, but sometimes those wanted changes are so difficult to achieve. It is not logic we should use to make a life change but the emotional power of the unconscious mind.

Before trying to make specific changes in your life with hypnosis it would be most useful to talk about how that subconscious (sometimes termed unconscious) part of mind may be directly addressed.

As children, (typically up to the age of 7 years or so) we took on ideas from our parents and other trusted adults. We were told that sky was blue, that grass was green and that Policemen could be trusted. We were told that fire was hot and snow was cold and we took those ideas on as normal truth.

As we got older, we began to test some of those ideas, we checked with friends about the color of the sky and they appeared to agree it was blue. We checked to see if the fire really was hot and got burned in the process. In these ways we had a model of the world confirmed and constructed.

Some of those beliefs were absolutely correct, we tested the ideas and had them confirmed by outside sources. So we went on to uncritically accept everything our parents told us until the point where we developed what many call the, Conscious Critical Faculty (CCF).


The CCF (Conscious Critical Faculty) is a kind of mental filter system that only allows in new ideas that fit with our now, well defined world model, typically the CCF is well formed by the time a person reaches about seven years of age.

You might like to think of it as being like a child's shape sorter with square, round and triangular holes. A new idea will only be accepted if you happen to have the right idea shaped hole in the CCF.

But what if not everything our parents told us was absolutely correct? What if, you took on an idea whilst at uncritical age, that was just plain wrong?

What might some of those ideas be?

o That spiders can hurt you

o That snakes are in some way evil

o That Policemen are to be feared

o That sex is dirty

o That men / woman are not to be trusted

o And potentially many, many more ideas

Later in life we ​​may find that we have an apparently irrational fear of spiders, a phobia. We know at a conscious level that in most countries, spiders simply can not hurt us and that any fear is completely irrational, but we can still be frozen with fear when seeing even the smallest eight legged creature.

Trying to change this irrational belief at a conscious level is almost always doomed to fail. The belief is held behind that 'screen' of the CCF and conscious attempts to change the belief will be blocked out

How do we get new empowering ideas past the Conscious Critical Faculty? There are a number of ways that new information can be pushed past the CCF.

They include:

– Repetition

– Shock

– High emotion

– Hypnosis (in the broadest sense)


Most of us are familiar with the repetition as a means of taking on new ideas. Very likely you experienced this during your school years, learning your times tables or facts by rote, parrot fashion. That knowledge is likely to still be with you today, no matter what your age.

Affirmations use the power of repetition in a powerful constructive way.


It stuck me a long time ago that the kind of un-questioning acceptance of suggestion following a shock that one experiences in, for example, a traffic accident is very similar to the hypnotic state.

I had an opportunity to check this again a few years ago when I had not one but two serving police officers attend a training course that I was giving. They were learning to become hypnotherapists and I put this 'shock' idea to them. Both agreed, that having seen both the hypnotic state and the real life shock following a trauma, they were similar in that the person involved was generally willing to accept simple direct suggestions without questions.

In a practical sense it is useful to think about this when you find a person who has recently suffered a trauma. Their mind will tend to operate on a very literal level and that person will be accepting of direct suggestion. If that suggestion is "oh that looks really bad, I expect that hurts does not it ?; then of course they will immediately become extremely aware of the pain!

High Emotion

When we are in a state of high emotion, the cortex, the outer reasoning part of mind almost goes into a shut-down. If you have ever had the experience of being in an extreme rage or tried to reason with someone else in a rage, you will know that the ability to have reasonable conversation is just about zero. When we are in a state of high emotion, the barrier that is the CCF is pashed aside, so that ideas we normally filter out before saying them, are un-interrupted and ideas can also be accepted without that same conscious intervention.


The hypnotic state can happen through a variety of means including watching television and film or listening to music. That chilled out feeling of only paying attention to one thing and going with plot line is just another form of hypnosis.

The hypnotic response may be induced by reading a book or by listening to a therapist. By extension, listening to a therapist may mean listening to a recording by a therapist or even listening to a recording of your own voice; acting as your own therapist.

One of the most powerful ways to induce hypnosis is through the use of television. The ability of television to induction a hypnotic state helps to explain how effective on-screen advertising can be. Most people are completely unaware of just how much this affects their own life.

How to Wire a Basic Light Circuit in a Domestic Dwelling

Light circuits are wired in a radial circuit configuration, unlike socket-outlets that can be wired in either radial or ring configuration. A radial circuit does not loop back to the MCB in the Consumer Unit or distribution board. The best cable to use in a domestic dwelling for a standard light circuit is 1.5mm square twin and earth PVC cable, typically from a 5A, 10A or 16A MCB depending on the load and amount of lights on the circuit. 16A MCB's lighting is more used in commercial dwellings where larger and more light fittings are used. This article will focus on a standard light circuit using 1.5mm PVC "twin and earth". Its not uncommon to use 1.0mm (square) cable for shorter circuits with smaller loads to save money on cable. By calculating the maximum circuit length and load you will be able to decide on what cable size the best is to use. Using 1.0mm (square) cable might be a bit cheaper but considering future alterations its always better to use a 1.5mm for later extensions and adding of heavier loads. A 1.5mm square cable would typically be fed from a 5A, 6A or 10A MCB and have a maximum cable length of 108, 90 and 52 meters respectively. 108 meters sound very long but once the cable is routed through your house's canvis will turn out not to be that long.

Once the radial circuit is fed through your house via each room to each light point, feed a cable (Twin and Earth) from each light point to the switch in that room.

From your radial circuit at the lighting point, you have to connect the Live (which is the cable fed to your switch) with the radial Lives on the same connector block. Connect the other end of your Live cable at the switch to the terminal in the switch marked with L1. The other two cables in your twin and earth are blue and a bare copper cable. Make sure to put Yellow / Green folding over the bare copper cable at the switch end and light fitting and do connect it to the earth terminals provided in the fittings. Remember to connect the metal cavity box to earth in the light switch. The blue cable is used as the return live connected in the switch to the terminal marked as C (common). You have to mark the blue cable (normally used as neutral) with a brown sleeving to indicate that its now a Live and do the same at the other end of the cable in the pendant connector block. The brown sleeved blue cable is now connected to the same terminal block as the cable to the lamp holder cable. Repeat this whole proses at each light point. Remember before turning your circuit on that it will need to be tested for polarity, insulation, continuity, earth continuity and finally once livened up a loop impedance test must be carried out.

TRX is still relatively new to the fitness world. I come across people every day who still have not ever heard of it, much less attempted to dangle from those terrifying yellow straps. As a Certified TRX Instructor, this pains me deep down, because TRX can be such a powerful tool for people to change their bodies. I use TRX on a regular basis with my clients who range in age from 20-85, and there is always an effective exercise that challenges each one of them. TRX is a very versatile tool that can be used in a wide variety of different training styles. During my TRX classes, I vary the training styles to keep my students interested, however, they're also able to enjoy the different benefits, such as improved strength and stability, better range of motion in their joints, and the high amounts of calories burned. In the rest of this article, I'll talk about what makes TRX challenging and why this is such a powerful benefit of this unique training style.

What Makes TRX Training Different?

TRX training utilizes a common concept – bodyweight exercise – with a very uncommon stability challenge to create a unique, full body workout with every exercise. The TRX straps are suspended from an A-frame structure, door, post, etc to allow the trainee to make each exercise harder or easier just by stepping towards or away from the anchor point. This makes it very easy to increase or decrease the intensity of each exercise. By changing the angle at which you stand relative to the floor and the anchor point, you can make a bodybuilder's veins pop out or teach a newbie the basics of resistance training. Some of you might be thinking that bodyweight exercises just are not going to be challenging enough if you really want to put on some muscle. This may be true in a normal scenario, but with TRX training, the added stability challenge turns something as simple as a push up into a much more challenging exercise. By allowing your arms or legs to move freely in the straps, you make it much harder on your body. These stabilizer muscles often get forgotten and weak due to help from machines, the added stability of a barbell, or a closed chain exercise like a body weight push up. I have also found, through my own training with TRX, that my 1RM (One repetition max) for just about every exercise increases after using it for a few weeks. This is because TRX training strengthens those stabilizer muscles which makes the more structured exercises seem easier.

Another very unique aspect of TRX training is the focus on full body. If you love doing planks, then you'll love doing TRX. Because TRX is all body weight, gravity and angles, you're basically doing planks during every exercise you complete. TRX forces you to tilt your pelvis appropriately while engaging your core to safely align your spine during each exercise. With the right supervision, this can be a very powerful tool for people with back problems or who hate doing crunches or sit ups. A lot of back pain stems from the inability to use your core, which in turn makes the core very weak. After a few TRX sessions with a good trainer, the trainee can learn the basic concepts behind keeping the spine in a safe position. Once those basic principles are understood, the trainee can really start focusing on adding resistance to build muscle mass safely, which may have been impossible otherwise.

Lastly, if you're looking for exercises that will burn calories fast, then TRX is for you! So how do you burn calories fast? One of the best ways to burn calories is to use multiple muscle groups at once during your exercises. With the TRX, even a simple exercise like a Biceps Curl utilizes not only the biceps, but the shoulders, abs, glutes, forearms, and low back. TRX turns an isolation exercise into a calorie burning, muscle building machine!

Wood Deck Cleaning – Pressure Washing Decks the Right Way

Perhaps the most dramatic effect of cleaning a deck with a power washer, is on a wood deck. Whether you want to remove dirt or other debris, or prepare the deck for a new finish, a pressure washer is the perfect tool for the job.

First, remove all your furniture so you can clean the entire area. For this job, attach the 25 degree nozzle to your pressure washer and go ahead and spray away any loose leaves or dirt.

Note: First test the detergent on an inconspicuous area of your deck.

To apply the detergent to the deck, attach the black detergent nozzle to the pressure washer, and fill the detergent tank with an environmentally friendly detergent liquid. Then apply the detergent to the deck surface and allow it to soak for 3-5 minutes.

The detergent will break down any oil or surface film for more effective cleaning.

One thing to keep in mind, don’t allow the detergent to dry. If you’re working in the sun, keep wetting the surface until the detergent has had time to work it’s magic.

Once that’s done, reattached the 25 degree nozzle. Continue cleaning in a side to side sweeping motion. Keep the nozzle moving constantly and at a consistent distance from the deck to get an even clean and so that you do not scratch your deck surface.

Once you’ve completed cleaning the deck, go ahead and give it one more spray to rid of loose detergent or dirt. With the hard work done, you can sit and relax and let the deck dry for 24 hrs before staining or sealing.

When I looked for some I got dizzy at the variety offered. Some are very confusing, even for me. And I've had some musical training! In my quest for the perfect pitch course, though, I came up with 3 things that I consider necessities for anyone wanting to learn to sing or play their instrument on-key.

  1. It needs to be logical – I can not tell you how many good programs there are that will never help the average person because they do not make any sense! For me, any instruction needs to clear to me and I have to see the relevance of the instructions to what I'm trying to accomplish. So many programs simply do not do this.
  2. I need to see immediate progress – This is the biggest motivator for anyone trying to accomplish anything! If you see results quickly, you will be more prone to stick with the program and even put forth more effort.
  3. Keep it simple – Give me easy, simple step-by-step instructions that I can follow. I do not care how ingenious or cutting edge the program is. If I can not follow it, it does not do me any good. Unfortunately, many of the courses I found did not have user-friendly instructions. I'm going out on a limb here, but I'm pretty sure if I could not understand them many others would not be able to either.

These are the things I consider to be the most important. And I believe when you find a program that has all these 3 attributes, you've found your perfect pitch course .
