Flight Travel Deals – 9 Tips For Traveling on the Cheap

Flight travel deals are out there, but not many travel industry insiders are offering them up, without you first asking about them. So, if you want to get the best flight travel deals, you are going to have to do some research on your own. This article will go a long way toward helping get you started in that direction. The following basic tips are available to anyone (i.e., they don’t require “insider connections” to achieve good results).

1) Book in advance. So basic and well known, I almost feel guilty offering it as a tip. Nonetheless, it can save you big money. Reserve your flight a month in advance, optimize your discount. Reserve your flight the week before, expect to pay premium prices.

2) Don’t fly during regular business hours. Airline flight is a supply-and-demand business. If you insist on flying between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. – when available seats are at their minimum – then plan on paying higher prices. Flying “the red-eye” – when LOTS of seats are available – can greatly lower the cost of your ticket.

3) Check the prices for flying out of/into an alternate airport. Sometimes, you’ll get a better deal by driving to a larger, metropolitan area, rather than insisting on a flight departing from your local “community” airport. On the other hand, Los Angelenos, for example, know that driving to one of the smaller airports – NOT known as LAX – can save them mucho dinero.

4) Ask the airline to adjust the price of your ticket to reflect the current price they are charging – IF, that is, prices have gone down since you booked your ticket. Few people do this – or even KNOW about this – but the airlines will adjust the price if you ask them to. Just don’t expect them to do it without your prompting them first.

5) Don’t park your car at the airport, if possible. Parking fees amass quickly – and might even offset all of the savings you managed to get through your other money-saving efforts. I once took a trip to Hawaii when I was fresh out of high-school (about 30 years ago…gulp!), and upon returning to Denver after two weeks, the cost of parking the car for all of that time came to over $100, leaving the four of us who went on the trip arriving home with nothing but coins in our pockets and fumes in the gas tank by the time we completed our 300-mile car ride home from the airport. Obviously, not parking at the airport isn’t always an option. So, at the very least, consider the cost of parking your car in your budgeting plans.

6) Try to fly “off-season.” Granted, flying to Hawaii for the Christmas holiday sounds very appealing when your home is under several feet of snow, but flying there in the summer can be much cheaper. I, for one, found Hawaii in July to be very enjoyable – especially with that extra cash for Mai-Tais on the beach.

7) Check into package deals. Sometimes you can save a lot of money by purchasing a package deal, where you buy your flight, your motel room, and possibly even a rental car all in one “package deal.” You might even get some extras thrown in, like a luau (in Hawaii), or a Broadway show (in New York City).

8) Bulk discounts. Sometimes organizations or communities arrange trips for their members, saving each individual some cash in the deal. Senior communities commonly do this with trips to Las Vegas, for example.

9) Check with the aggregators. These outfits – aggregators – will compare multiple airlines and travel agencies, at once – finding you the best deal from all the places they dig around into. Of course, an aggregator can’t possibly check ALL travel outlets, so try a few aggregators, and then try going directly through the airline that the aggregators deemed cheapest. You may find that the “going direct” to the airline of your choosing might reap better discounts for you, through frequent-flier programs, and such – not to mention allowing you to bypass the travel agency fees (minimal though they are).

How to Easily Afford Dental Implants

The way most people ask about how much dental implants cost sound very much the way they would ask how much a car costs and with good reason. As with cars, the cost of which will depend on what type and model of car you require, the cost you pay for implants depends on how many implants you need and why you need them.

On a good day, patients can expect to pay anywhere between the amounts of $1,200 to $3,000, not including any of the fixtures above it or anything else to hold your teeth in. If you’re going to pay for the implant, the piece that goes into it, the crown on top of that and grafting materials, this could set you back about $3,500 to $4,000 for that type of implant. OK, so it is actually closer to purchasing a new car but the thing is, dental implants last longer and well, even if you have the flashiest car around, if you mumble or slur your words because of ill-fitting dentures or bridges, then the car may actually be a better investment.

The good news is, you can actually find dental implants that won’t break the bank. Dental implants that are affordable don’t easily come by but with a lot of patience you may be able to find one at about half of the total cost and maybe even ones for free. All you need to know is where to look.

The first thing you need to do is discuss your options with your dentist. He or she may be able to come up with affordable payment plans or allow you to pay for your implants in installments. He or she may even suggest that you get dental discount cards that they participate in, ones that offer at least 30%-50% on dental procedures and are usually valid for a year.

Another way to afford your dental implants is to shop around for dental insurance policies that cover a substantial part, if not the full price for dental implant procedures. While most dental insurance policies won’t cover dental implants because it is considered cosmetic procedure, it is better to have at least a part of it covered than having to pay for it all when your budget clearly doesn’t allow it even if you need it.

You can also try to browse for cosmetic dental clinics online that offer payment plans for their patients to get dental implants. Find sites that accept Hicaps and most reputable health cards, as well as credit through any financing institutions. Sites that allow you extended payment options ensures you get the treatment when you want it and when you need it without worrying about how to pay for it.

It is also recommended that you take advantage of your benefits package at work if you have any. Flexible spending accounts (FSAs) allow you to contribute money from every pay period before they are taxed, and this is the same money you can use to pay for your dental implants. Combining these with individual or employer-sponsored dental insurance plans could save you hundreds of dollars off getting your implants done.

And lastly, while you may be able to get your dental implants for free and this is by playing guinea pig to dental students who are training to perform such procedures while being supervised by a licensed professional during the entire time, you could be exposing yourself to a lot of risks that could entail greater costs in the long run. Never sacrifice your health and well-being for price because it is not worth it.

What Are You Having For Breakfast?

Breakfast

I was munching down my breakfast this morning and thought about the process of getting it from the kitchen to the tummy. So much of what we do in there is now by rote. In putting it all together in my mind, I realized what a production had occurred to make a simple eastern omelette and a toasted English muffin.

Now, I’m not going to go into how the English muffin is made. That is just overkill. Besides, it came from the market in a buy one, get one free purchase. But still, it requires some work just not much thought. Look at the knife that was used to cut it. Maybe the muffin was advertised to be fork-split. I don’t trust that. I want two pieces of equal size and width, and that requires a reasonably sharp, serrated knife. Then to toast it to perfection, a toaster or toaster oven is needed. I don’t own a toaster. The toaster oven has so many other uses that I chose to have one in my kitchen. I’m considering a change, though. Maybe it is the age of this small appliance of mine, but it doesn’t toast like I want it to. Anyway, all that to make a simple toasted English muffin. I bet you never gave it that much thought.

I like omeletes. And although an omelette is different from an Eastern, they have similar characteristics. Eggs and meat, and that is all that is required, but not all that is desired. The omelette has some veggies and some cheese in most cases. The variety is endless. The Eastern is more simple. Ground ham and an egg. If you want it to be a Western, then grate in some onion. It sounds so simple, but when deconstructed, it is not. The ham was something that was taking up room in the fridge. Hauling it out, some I chunked up for a casserole, I some left on the bone for pea soup, and some got ground up for ham salad, and Easterns and Westerns.

The grinding of the ham needs the help of a chopper of some kind. I used my food processor. Smaller batches do up well with the mini chopper, but this time it was a larger portion. Purists might put it on the chopping block and hand chop. I’m not so inclined. Rather, I’m lazy. I don’t mind when I can put the bowl and blade in the dishwasher. I hate to hand wash that appliance.

So once we have the ground ham and the soup is on to simmer, it’s time to make the Eastern. How much ham depends on the number of eggs. I simply mix the two in a coffee cup. It’s closest at hand. One egg is enough, and about an ounce of ham, but I was hungry today. I used two eggs and a heaping spoonful of ground meat. Melt a little butter in a fry pan or skillet and drop it in over medium heat. Give it a flip when you see the egg is starting to come together, but do not stir. If you stir, you have scrambled egg with an addition of ham. Our family puts this egg disc on toast with a healthy smear of ketchup. I opted to eat it on a plate with my English muffins. And yes, a little ketchup. I do not make my own ketchup but have thought about it.

So my simple breakfast is only simple thanks to the advances of products for the kitchen. We can complicate it by making ketchup or English muffins, but for now, I’m happy. Should I mention the home-made apricot jam on the muffins?

What are you having for breakfast?

How Does a Court Reporter Build a Transcription Dictionary?

Technical depositions and court testimony can be challenging for new court reporters and court reporting students. It is the court reporter’s responsibility to make sure that every word in the transcript is spelled properly. To do otherwise makes the court reporter look unprofessional, inexperienced or lazy. It may also make the person reading the transcript wonder if a certain word was missed, what else is wrong with the transcript.

Court reporters begin with a basic software translation dictionary for stenotype to English. They start it in school and must build it up word by word as they take more testimony. Each grouping of stenotype strokes equals a word. The word’s stroke combination must be defined in the software dictionary before it can come up in English during the translating process. The more words properly defined in the court reporter’s dictionary, the faster and easier the transcription process becomes.

Asking for Help

One way to find out the proper spelling is to ask the witness to spell an unfamiliar word. Sometimes the witness does not know. Additionally, some lawyers do not like interruptions during a deposition, even when it improves the quality of their product. Medical doctors will often tell the court reporter to call if they have any questions later on, when they are transcribing the testimony.

New Words

One tip given to students is every time they see or hear a new word, they should learn its meaning, the proper spelling for it and what part of speech it is. Many students keep this in a notebook and transfer the words to their dictionary.

Looking It Up

Technical terms abound in expert testimony. Words are sometimes abbreviated or turned into acronyms. These words are not usually included in the basic student’s dictionary. Before the word can be defined and added to the dictionary, it should be verified for proper spelling. Finding the right way to spell a word can be a great challenge when someone has never heard it before. The simplest way to do this is to try different letter combinations as a starting spelling for a word. Use an online or hard copy dictionary to find it. Specialized medical or legal dictionaries are reliable resources.

Defining a Word

When adding words to a dictionary, one requirement is to enter the appropriate steno strokes needed to form the word. Sometimes court reporters will stroke a word a slightly different way, depending on how fast the speaker is or whether they recognize the word’s syllables as they are being uttered. It does not matter how many different ways a word is stroked, as long as it comes up in the court reporter’s dictionary when necessary. As a result, the same word may be in there two different ways, but the transcription will be correct.

Those sounds that are not recognized by the software remain in steno until they are manually changed into English. Of course, this takes longer than allowing the computer to automatically translate the text. The longer it takes to transcribe a job, the less time the court stenographer is available to take other jobs. Shorter transcription times are the key to making more money.

The Importance of a Credit Report

Your credit report in combination with your credit score is as important as the air you breathe. Without it, you won’t stand a chance or survive in the United States. To most of the country, you are just a number in conjunction with a credit history. It does not matter whether you are good person, volunteer, lie or cheat. It only matters how responsible you are with your personal finances.

The simplest way to find out about your credit history is to order a copy online. You want a website that provides you with information from the three major credit bureaus;Experian, TransUnion and Equifax. These bureaus analyze your financial decision making; both past and present, and put that information into a report. A good website to use that provides this information is creditchecktotal.com. It only costs $1 to check and can provide you with invaluable information compiled into a credit report. Your report will not only provide your current credit score, but also your entire credit history.

A credit report acts as your credit references. A positive credit history tells potential lenders that you manage your finances well, i.e. borrow money and pay it back in a timely manner. A negative credit history tells lenders you have a difficult time managing your finances and instead are in debt, often not repaying them as agreed.

Credit reports help you by providing you with your personal financial history. This may include attempts at fraud made by others at your expense or errors made by varying lenders. The report can also provide you with information on good or bad decisions you may have made in the past. By staying up-to-date with your financial history, you can ensure you are making good choices, have the ability to detect if someone is committing identity theft and ensure there are no errors.

In addition, a credit report can explain why you were not approved for a certain loan or line of credit. Even though you had a great or excellent credit score, you still had a negative item or charge back on your credit report, so the financial lender refused to approve you.

You can also see how fast your credit score can be transformed. If you go ahead and start repairing your credit, you can watch how fast negative items can be removed and how fast you will gain points putting your score from bad or below 600 to above 700.

If you are not happy with your current FICO score and/or credit history or find there are errors in the report, you can contact a credit repair company. The credit repair company can boost your credit score, remove negative items and/or dispute errors on your behalf.

How to Reduce Phlegm and Excess Mucus

Did you just get over a nasty cold or flu yet still have or feel too much mucus you can’t get rid of? Most of us think that mucus is a horrible slime but the truth is we need it in our bodies. In fact it is a lubricator for our sinus cavities, our guts and our lungs. It is our protector. Mucus contains antibodies when our bodies are challenged with a virus or bacteria or something we have an allergy too. That gue is a way our body is keeping us healthy. Without it we wouldn’t function properly. It is when our bodies go into overdrive that there is a problem

Most of us know that dairy is a big mucus producer, however did you know that eating eggs, meat, sugar, wheat, processed foods and certain beverages, grains and nuts can also produce too much mucus?

It is important to evaluate your food intake, its sources, and volume your taking in to understand this more. When you begin to eliminate or reduce these foods and add in other foods you can experience results.

Too much chicken, eggs, and meats produce too much acid in the body, let alone if they are not organic, these foods will produce even more mucus. Likewise too much grains can also be problematic. In addition wheat, sugar, certain beverages like coffee can also produce too much mucus. When eating these types of foods choosing organic is best! It is vital to your health!

When choosing proteins aim for plant based proteins like beans, broccoli, cucumbers, spinach, and much more. It is important to choose healthy plant based proteins to actually produce good oxygen and circulation in your body and a healthy mucus content.

There are also a variety of lean and grass-fed meats if chosen that are much healthier for you as white fish and healthy forms of soy to give you vitality. After all you don’t want to eat something that has been fed with hormones or something that has been fed GMO diet plans. This can be crucial to your health.

Likewise too much grains can also be problematic. My advice is to stay with gluten free grains such as quinoa and millet. Other grains can produce too much mucus as they may have gluten. In addition many of us have too much of a fiesta with grains even healthy ones that if not properly burned will turn into sugar. It is important to eat well balanced and not too much of one thing to avoid allergy and overdrive in your body. It is also very important to exercise!

Sugar holds no nutritional content at all. It taste good and even smells good! Walking into a candy store or buying fresh baked and yeasty out of the oven breads, pies and cookies or dreaming of dancing sugar plums over our heads are fun and addicting, however this can also be a contributing factor why your body is producing too much mucus.

Processed foods and too much wheat products can also cause inflammation. Too much oily nuts such as peanuts and even natural peanut butter can throw off your natural bodies mucus production. It is better to eat roasted nuts in its whole form. If not buying roasted always soak your nuts first before roasting them.

Sugary beverages, too much coffee or even herbal tea containing too much caffeine will also aid in production of acid throwing off too your natural PH balance. Likewise too much salt can actually upset your natural stomach mucus lining causing things to disarray.

The good thing is by carefully reviewing your diet and what you are eating you will be able to decrease your bodies mucus overdrive. By eliminating and reducing some of the foods above, adding in exercise, getting good rest, decreasing stress your body will regain balance again and remember mucus is a good thing just not too much of it!

The Cost Of The Virtual!

Emboldened by his earlier encouraging experiences with the banking hawks Mr Thames Pond decided to carry on from there. He took a pledge to encounter any call from any credit card or banking executive with guts and intelligence. He must ensure that he refuse all unnecessary offers or entrapment. He’d no longer be vulnerable. And then, as usual, he got a call right away.

“Hello… am I speaking to Thames Pond please?”

“Who’s this please?”

“This is Moneycanny Sir, from UC bank!… Mr Pond?”

“Right, this is Pond. Thames Pond!”

“So nice to talk to you again! Good morning Sir!”

“Good morning. Ms err… !”

“Mr Pond… can I take just two minutes of your most precious time?”

“Regarding what?”

“Sir, you are one of our most privileged customers. We’ve reviewed your payment record over the years and found your credit history absolutely sound. Therefore, we’d like to offer you a rare privilege in terms of travel benefits. We are sending you a package of travel vouchers allowing you to have free five-star hotel comforts in various tourist locations you’d like to visit. We need your consent Sir so that we can forward that package to you readily.”

“You are giving me all these free, Milady?”

“Absolutely Sir! This is UC bank’s thanksgiving to one of our most privileged customers.”

“No payment? No hidden costs? Are you sure?”

“Yes Sir! All you have to do is to receive it!”

“Okay… in that case I can consider… Ms… er… !”

“Thanks Sir! Your package is worth more than – bucks. So there will be a service tax and other charges. You will pay an amount of – bucks for receiving the package. We’ll bill this amount in your next card statement… “

“Hey… wait a minute! What are you saying… I’ll have to pay to receive your benefits?”

“Right Sir! You are not making a payment, you are only paying taxes. Your package is worth a lot of money and so service charges apply naturally… “

“Wait a minute… you see… “

“Ours is one of the largest banks of the country with a huge network… “

“Hey! Ms… er… I’m not referring to your bank… I mean you see… that is you and see here! You see… er… you… see… I will have to take leave from my office… book tickets… plan it perfectly to be able to avail of your travel package, right? And considering your five-star privileges I must travel by air… I cannot just crawl and slog to land up there, no? Now, the problem is it may not materialize in that specified period of yours… due to so many reasons… “

“But Sir, we expect you definitely won’t let go of such a money-saving opportunity!”

“… Okay… you expect… I want too. But it is not in my hands. Now, if I fail to avail of your ‘free’ package why on earth should I pay you in advance? You send it… I’ll see, and then if I do travel and enjoy your five-star luxuries please bill the service charges… this makes perfect sense.”

“Sorry Sir! We offer you a value package and therefore we have to charge the service tax now only. Please confirm your agreement so that we can send it across immediately.”

“I’m sorry too… Milady! I cannot give my consent… ” He cut the line with relish.

Mr Pond watched his phone ring again. He rejected the call, deliriously happy. The process repeated itself one more time. Then silence as Mr Pond indulged himself a broad grin.

Why Use Illuminated Reticle Scopes?

The word ‘illuminated’ speaks volumes for a reticle rifle scope. If you are a shooter or hunter then you know what is being discussed. An illuminated reticle rifle scope features a light source that is integrated internally. This light source illuminates the reticle or crosshair so that shooting becomes easier in low light conditions. However, there is always this stupendous debate about Illuminated vs. Non-illuminated reticle scopes. The only reason why illuminated reticles are recommended is because they are of great help in shooting in low light conditions or in the dark. If you use a non-illuminated reticle scope in the dark, shooting will become a nuisance for you. In this regard, Nightforce illuminated reticles are suggested by hunters and shooters across the world. But you can also look out for other brands, like, Leupold.

These rifle scopes can be categorized into 2 types: general purpose scopes for hunting or recreational shooting and tactical sights used in self defence, military, and police applications. And it is the light source that differentiates the two types. The tactical sights utilize radioactive tritium lamps or a passive light gathering fibre optics. On the other hand, the hunting scopes make use of the battery enabled LED (light emitting diode). There are several benefits that the illuminated reticle scopes offer over the traditional iron sights.

Firstly, the scopes used by the hunters have a better magnification that the iron sights. When you view through the illuminated ones, they are able to bring in the targets closer to even though they are at pretty long distances. Normally, an iron sight would produce blurred images for such long distances. The tactical sights, on the other hand, offer a wide view picture that makes instinctive shooting possible even under pressure.

Secondly, the usual glass sights are not packed with adequate light gathering facilities. This makes the aiming point or the reticle disappear during low light conditions. In this regard, the illuminated reticle rifle scopes are of tremendous help for the shooters and hunters who want to use it for low visibility conditions.

As far as their design is concerned, the Nightforce illuminated reticles follow the similar basic design patterns as the traditional optical devices. There is an additional mechanism associated with these kinds of scopes. A separate light source is integrated within these scopes. In any standard retilce scopes the illumination is switchable and is placed behind the reticle. The LED works with one or more flat batteries used in a watch. These are also available with various power settings for the illumination. You can choose as per your requirement in the low light conditions.

As far as the color of reticles is concerned, then red is the most common one used. This is because it is the easiest color to trace in low light conditions. However, there are various sights that are available with green, yellow and amber hues.

However, there is one problem that you can face with this kind of a scope and that is over-illumination. In such a condition the reticle glows so brightly that you have difficulties is placing the target. Thus, it is recommended that you do your research well about the brands offering these products. It will help you to choose a suitable illuminated reticle.

The Advantages of Adopting an Adult Dog

Christmas has come and gone, but now, families are dealing with a problem that came from something that they thought would be a happy memory. What was under the christmas trees? Many children found a small, wiggly present just for them. As they pulled off the lacey bow, they breathlessly held back in anticipation, knowing that it may not be what they have been wishing for all year. Then they heard the little whine that could only mean one thing, a puppy with soft, fluffy fur, and a cute wiggly tail. An hour goes by before the children thought of him again; but by then, it was too late. He urinated on the rug and chewed on two pairs of shoes. This is the story that follows the opening of the small, wiggly present. Many parents do not realize how much responsibility a puppy can be, but by adopting, an adult dog will help keep the puppy frustrations away.

There are many benefits to adopting an adult dog, rather than a puppy. First, the cost of adoption is cheaper than buying a puppy. The adoption fee will also include medical care like spaying, neutering, and vaccinating. It is very unlikely that medical cost will be included in a contract when buying a puppy. In addition, the experts at rescue centers and humane societies can help families pick out the right kind of dog. The Humane Society of the United States writes that they will “[…] screen animals for specific temperaments and behaviors to make sure each family finds the right pet for its lifestyle.” Most importantly, when adopting a dog, there will be no financial support going to puppy mills, or pet stores that support puppy mills. “Puppy mills are ‘factory style’ dog-breeding facilities that put profit above the welfare of dogs”.

While the adoption of puppies is important, the adoption of an adult dog is the key to having a stress free home. A dog becomes an adult between ten and eighteen months. The smaller breeds of dogs will mature faster than larger breeds. A dog becomes a senior and can start showing his age at seven years, and can live between thirteen and eighteen years. This means that a young adult dog can still have a lot of life to give a family.

All puppies will need to be trained for about a year. The first thing puppies will need to learn is not to urinate in the house. This process is called housebreaking or potty training. There are many ways to potty train a puppy, but all of these techniques require time, patience, and a good carpet cleaner. Puppies have very small bladders. The younger the puppy, the smaller its bladder will be. This means that it cannot keep from urinating for more than fifteen minutes at a time. As the puppy gets older, its bladder will become larger, allowing it to wait for longer periods of time. However, this still means that there will be midnight potty training sessions. In contrast, “adult dogs are likely to be already housebroken. If they’re not, they do have the physical capacity to hold it in (unlike puppies) and are generally fast-learners.

Puppies will also need to be watched. They should never be left alone for more than thirty minutes at a time. They will chew on anything, including shoes and expensive furniture. All puppies go through a teething phase, just as human babies do. This phase is their way of testing their environment, and a way for them to pull out their puppy teeth. This puppy phase can cost hundreds of dollars in damages. Deborah Hoffman writes, “…one chewed the wooden molding in our kitchen, and another destroyed hundreds of dollars of irrigation. The ten-month old managed to eat an entire foam chair (yuck!) and liked tearing chunks out of our berber [sic] carpet when we weren’t looking”. Once again, puppies will require time and patience to teach them what not to chew on. However, adult dogs have already explored their world and have lost all of their puppy teeth. They have no more reasons for chewing on non-food items.

Lastly, when adopting an adult dog, “Their personality is already developed, and you’ll be able to spot the characteristics you’re looking for much more easily than with a puppy or kitten” says Pia Salk from adopt-a-pet.com. This means knowing most of the dog’s behaviors before bringing them home. For example, does it like to curl on the couch and cuddle or does it like to be in its kennel (for owners that may need to kennel their dogs while they are at work). This also includes knowing some of the bad behaviors a dog might have, such as, does it get along well with other dogs or is it food aggressive. Some owners are better equipped to handle these problems than others are. Buying a puppy before knowing its personality can mean disaster for a family, after the puppy becomes an adult dog. Will it still fit in with the family? Will the children still like to play with the puppy after it is all grown up? Questions like these do not need to be asked when adopting an adult dog.

Bringing a new dog into a family can be either very rewarding or very frustrating. Always choose carefully when picking out a new family pet. Puppies are fun, but can be destructive. Does the bank account have the extra funds it will take to care for the puppy financially? There are so many adult dogs waiting to be adopted that could fit into a family perfectly. How to Take Care of and Repair Your Kid's Wetsuit

It is water play time of your kids again. Children love to play in the water and devise all sorts of water games. Whether its spring, summer or fall season, children do not seem to stop their fascination with water.

In order to protect your children from the cold water temperature, your children need a kids wetsuit. Wetsuits are important for your children's protection because they are the most vulnerable to illnesses such as colds, cough and fever. Childrens wetsuits are perfect to keep your children safe while they get their fun.

However, accidents can happen. Children's play and rigorous activities can cause the wetsuit to rip off. This is possibly especially especially at the beach where the wetsuit can encounter small to medium sized rocks and other rough objects and surfaces. Good thing that there is a way to repair kids wetsuit accidents like this that you can do on your own.

The essential material that you need in repairing a wet suit is neoprene cement. The neoprene cement will be used to path the tear or hole together. Neoprene cement is available in surf shops. Just go ahead and ask for it. There are also wetsuits repair kits available. When you buy a wetsuit, it's probably a good idea that you get a repair kit, too, for emergencies.

What you need to do first, like all patches, is to clean the torn area. Clear the torn area with any particles such as sand or dust. This is to make sure that the area will patch cleanly. After cleaning the area with soap and water, clean it with alcohol and let it dry.

Use a brush to put neoprene cement on surfaces that needs to be patched up. Leave it to dry for 5 minutes. After that, apply neoprene cement again on the torn areas and this time, leave it for 10 minutes. Afterwards, it is time to glue the torn parts together. Press the two parts together by using some kind of weight like a heavy book. Wait more or less for 6 hours. When it's completely dry, you have successfully repaired your child's wetsuit! You can make the wetsuit working really well again, enough to protect you from cold water temperatures.

This do-it-yourself technique, however, is only applicable for small holes and rips. If the hole is much bigger or you think that it requires more than just gluing the parts together, you can bring the wetsuit to a repair shop. It may need a new neoprene patch or some heavy duty repair. It's best to leave it to the experts when that happens.

If the wetsuit is also damaged because of overuse, it is better not to use it anymore. If the color is already too faded or if the neoprene is already getting hard from the water and sun, it's better to buy a new one. Most kids wetsuits are made to be very durable. Surely by the time it's overused, your children have already outgrown the suit. It's time for a newer, cooler one!

The Beauty of Large Wall Clocks

It looks like every time I walk into a really nice home I am sooner or later confronted by one of the hot new trends in interior design: large wall clocks. They are everywhere! And there's a good reason why: they add a real magnificence to any home in which they appear. I am seriously becoming a big fan of this take on the typical smaller or medium-sized version. Go big, that's what I say.

The first thing you need to consider if you want to emulate this design trend is if you even have the room to do it. You really only need one thing: a big empty space on a wall. That is all you will need. (And a little cash.) If you are very stylistically inclined then you might be able to kind of wedge a large wall clock in next to some other things on the wall such as photographs or paintings, or even light switches and TV's. But most people will probably prefer to play it a bit safer and have some space on either side of the clock.

Most people agree that large wall clocks should be classified as being at least two feet wide. This alone is quite big, approximately a third the height of a human. But you may even want a larger one than this. If so, I applaud you. Just make sure you have the wall space and do your measurements before you make the purchase. A lot of us are not exactly intuitive when it comes to making visual approximations on measurements. (By the way, two feet equals about 0.60 meters.)

No one can really deny the magnificence of these items. They are a great way to really do something with a big wall. Rare is the person who can make an empty wall look good without doing anything to it. You really bought to make use of this space to show something off. Large wall clocks are a new and modern way to do this. Also, no one will ever forget what time it is! It sort of has the effect of minimizing the consciousness of time in a paradoxical way. It parodies time and our obsession with it. But beyond this it tells everyone who walks into your home that you do things in a big way and you are not afraid to take chances. This is an impression that I think most of us would like to make on our guests and visitors. (It also tells people you are a bit wealthy.)

So that is my little spiel about large wall clocks and how I have become a big fan of them. I suppose not everyone will echo my thoughts, but I just think they are great. The other side of things is that if you take this plunge you will probably want to (at least over time) re-emphasize everything else that is within a vision of the clock. It would be a mistake to have your house be overshadowed by one single item.

A Standardized Company Sales Plan – Good Idea or Bad?

I came across an article today that explains how companies can successfully

implement a company-mandated sales plan and be sure that all of the salespeople are following it.

I found the advice given in that article to be deeply disturbing to me, especially

since it is new and not from a twenty-year-old book from the old school of selling.

The essence of the article is this: Companies that intend to implement a new sales

plan must make it mandatory, must hold the salespeople accountable for following

it, must let the salespeople know that managers will inspect to make sure the new

plan is being followed, and that role plays should be done in training sessions to

teach salespeople how to use the new sales plan.

I felt shivers down my spine when I read the part about how managers will hold

salespeople accountable, and will inspect to be sure that the plan is being followed.

I immediately got the picture of the stereotypical raving lunatic, “little dictator” sales

manager who terrorizes his or her salespeople through micro-management and

blunt orders.

Is this the kind of organization good salespeople would want to work for? I’m

amazed that this kind advice is still being given in this day and age.

I also have a major problem with mandated role playing in training sessions. I hate

role plays. I always have and always will. I think they’re stupid and a complete

waste of time. They’re absolutely BANNED from my training programs. The biggest

problem with role plays is that they’re NEVER realistic. In fact, if you train a

salesperson through role plays, he will be completely blind sided and blown out

when meeting with real prospects who have real problems and real objections. All

of the example sales dialogues I use in my programs have come from REAL sales

appointments, those carried out by either myself or other salespeople I know and

trust.

When I was in sales, I was almost always a top performer. The only times I was not

a top performer was while working at companies that had a mandated sales process

that I was required to follow. It always baffled me as to why companies that forced

us to follow their plan would hire experienced sales reps. Why not hire

inexperienced people right out of college? They won’t have any pre-conceived

notions of how to sell, won’t have any prior experience or training, and therefore

will blindly follow the company’s system, no questions asked.

Here are a couple of realities that managers and sales directors must face up to:

1. If you want an experienced sales force with a proven track record, you must

understand that they already know how to sell. How else could they possibly have a

great track record? Attempting to force them to learn a new system and follow it

negates their talent and experience and will immediately destroy their top producer

status. Proven salespeople excel and perform at their very best when treated like

independent contractors.

2. If you really want to implement and mandate a company sales plan, the only way

to do that successfully and with little turnover is to hire people with no experience

right out of school. And even then, you’d still be much better off with sticking to

option 1.

If you want a successful organization, hire the best and place your trust in them that

they know how to sell. They’ve done it before and can do it again for you. Don’t

derail their performance and undermine everyone’s success by forcing something on

them that is totally unnecessary.

Home Safety for Seniors and Those in Need of Home Assistance

Introduction

The CDC (Centers for Disease Prevention and Control) indicates in recent posts that “Each year, millions of older people-those 65 and older-fall”. These falls can often be serious and there are strong indications that for seniors or those recovering or those with disabilities each successive fall increases the probability of an additional fall. In fact, also according to the CDC, there were 9.6 Million non-fatal injuries in the senior population due to falls, in the year 2015. An additional 33 thousand were fatal in that same year. (Go to the cdc.gov site for sources). These facts are clearly sobering but even more concerning since so many of these falls take place at home and could easily be prevented.

Contributing Factors to Home-based Falls

Seniors and others that have lost some level of independence face many challenges in the home, some intrinsic and others extrinsic, some related to home safety and some, surprisingly, related to caregivers. Here are some common factors that we all need to keep in mind:

  • Loss of full motor control
  • Medications that cause drowsiness and or dizziness
  • Home-safety issues that increase the dangers of mobility
  • Improper support devices to aid mobility
  • Lack of ongoing, appropriately paced physical activity

Of all of these clearly the easiest to eliminate or mitigate fall into a single category above: Home-Safety issues. This is probably the most critical of all of these since the elimination of any items in this category is likely to profoundly and significantly reduce the risk of falls in the home.

Caregivers and Their Role in Home Safety

Family caregivers or hired caregivers, for seniors and others, need to be acutely aware of fall-risk dangers in the home and help those in need of assistance avoid these dangers. Caregivers need to be proactive by ensuring the safety of those they care for through awareness, communication and correction of hidden and/or obvious home dangers. This can be accomplished through vigilance and involvement. For example caregivers should try to put themselves into the shoes of those they care for and predetermine what challenges they face in and around the home. It is challenging enough for those in need of care to merely accept their position of aging, disability or otherwise, and therefore caregivers need to be sensitive to the feelings of seniors and others while still be vigilant in keeping the home safe. Caregivers really do need to behave as unsung heroes or angels, operating in the background, and without making seniors or others in care feel worse for their loss of some independence.

Risk Mitigation and Steps to Safety

The CDC as well as other sources provide significant yet intuitive advice on how to minimize the risk of fall and injury. In fact the National Council of safety provides some excellent direction in its recent article “Slip, Trip and Fall Prevention will Keep Older Adults Safe and Independent” ( click here for source). Most of us can leverage a little thought on this topic and easily come up with a checklist of items to evaluate in our homes to make them safer for older adults, those recovering, or disabled.
