For this reason, there is a high turn-over rate, which is what has lead to the large number of rules and restrictions in the contract. Talented instructors do not want to stay for the long term, as the instructors feel undervalued and unappreciated. The recreational agency has a transactional leader at the helm.

A progressive approach that melds both transformational and transactional leadership styles would reach a more positive outcome in the recreational forum. For instance, although the director may have an idea of the recital’s format, a brainstorming meeting should take place in the summer to involve staff in the creative process. Ideas and suggestions need to be voiced, discussed, and vetted. Even if not all the ideas are put into action, instructors need to feel valued and included in the process. Along the way, the director should keep instructors informed of why choices were made to proceed in a particular direction. The communicated will take more effort on the part of the leader, but it will ultimately lead to more participation and a learning organization. Many recreational directors are worn out from lack of resources and an increasing demand from customers and budget requirements, and do not have the energy to be a transformational leader. However, for the purposes of fostering a positive, learning environment, the inspiration and stimulation must come from the leader as a role model.

Some leaders may be frustrated by the give-and-take process of brainstorming and creativity, as one believes they have all the answers. However, a leader cannot see oneself as the authority on a subject. Instead, one should be a coach in the process, guiding the team toward their own decisions and outcomes. When ownership of the end product, such as the dance recital, rests with the team, not solely the leader, a learning organization is achieved.

With regard to hourly staff, the manager can combine the two leadership styles, as hourly staff needs a more concrete structure to follow for break/lunch times, list of duties, and extrinsic rewards. The manager can still lead by positive example with hourly staff, and provide team building sessions when appropriate. The hourly staff should feel part of the overall team, even if staff is not all part of the creative process. Effective leaders make all staff members feel valued.

How to Remove Wall Stickers and Wall Decals

This article is about wall stickers and wall decals that are made of vinyl. Many websites talk about how to put these on the wall, but there may be little assistance for how to remove the wall stickers.

The method for removing wall stickers and wall decals will remain the same, but it might be a little more difficult on certain surfaces and depending on the size of the wall sticker. Let’s look at some of the methods for removing.

Removing from walls

Painted walls are at the highest risk from damage when removing wall decals. This means you need to take some care and focus on avoiding this damage. It is possible to remove wall stickers from even the worst walls.

4. As you roll or pull the vinyl away from the wall, you need to heat the next section of vinyl directly in front of the piece you lifted. Basically you are working gradually heating and lifting.

5. If you can visually see or you can feel a bubble under the paint surface you need to take care lifting over this area. If there is a second person, you can ask them to control the hair dryer while you use your second hand to press down on the bubble as you lift the vinyl off.

6. Continue until all of the vinyl is removed.

7. If there is any gum residue (not common on walls) then wipe the surface with an acetate based cleaner such as nail polish remover.

TOP TIP: Pull or roll the vinyl back against itself like it is being folded back. Do not pull the vinyl out from the wall at 90degrees as this will put more pressure on the paint.

Removing from glass and metal

When removing wall decals from glass or metal, the issue is not normally related to surface damage. It can be much harder to remove from these surfaces because the vinyl sticks so well to them. If you have a paint scraper or metal edged scraper this will be useful, otherwise it will have to be your finger nails.

1. Heat the vinyl directly in front of the area you are removing.

2. Peel/pick at the edge and pull. The vinyl is likely to tear as you do this, then you heat the next bit and remove.

3. Removing from these surfaces is more likely to leave a residue. Deal with that at the end, first remove all the solid vinyl by heating and pulling.

4. To clean the surface you will need an acetate or orange based cleaner that can lift the remaining glue. There are lots of purpose built cleaners for this, or simply use nail polish remover.

TOP TIP: If you hold the vinyl closer to the surface it is less likely to tear. For example, if you are pulling and as you pull, the piece of “free” vinyl is getting longer it is more likely to tear, simply move your hand back down closer to surface to reduce the chance of breakage.

By working patiently and not forcing the vinyl from the surface you will be able to remove the wall stickers and wall decals with no problem.

J Is For Jambalaya

Jambalaya is a Louisiana Creole dish of Spanish and French influence. It is not only a fun word to say but is delicious too. Most jambalaya recipes call for either a fish and a protein or two proteins like sausage and chicken. However you make it, it is a real comfort food.

Most of the jambalaya recipes I reviewed not only have a variety of spices but also have ordinary ingredients like peppers, rice, onions, celery, and tomatoes. Look at the different pieces or “ingredients” of your life – pack kids’ school lunches, make beds, prepare reports, go to meetings, feed the dog, and mow the lawn. So why blog about jambalaya? The reason is that no matter how you make it, the dish comes out spicy and who does not want to spice up their life? How about adding spice to your “ingredients in your life?” One idea is to jazz up the kids’ lunches by cutting their sandwiches in different shapes or adding a unique un-lunch like item. You could also include a note or put a small treat like stickers in their lunch boxes.

At work, hold a walking meeting or hire a masseuse that does chair massages for your team. You can also bring in goodies like bagels or an Edible Arrangement. During some of your meetings that you run, don’t speak at all. Tell your team that you are there to observe only and see the different ways they conduct themselves. When you do lead the meeting, use different types of visuals instead of the same old PowerPoint presentations. Start the session by asking them what super hero they would be and why. It gets people to open up about themselves and everyone gets a good laugh.

Even chores can be spiced up. No one said you can’t dance while you dust or mow the lawn. Walking the dog with a friend cannot only be fun but healthy for both of you. For me, I am not a fan of unloading the dishwasher so sometimes when I have food cooking in the microwave, I try to see if I can get all the dishes put away before the buzzer goes off. Making a bed is also a mundane task. I always think of the Sound of Music when Julie Andrews lifts the sheet up during the rainstorm when all the children were scared. I admit I am the worst singer but who cares? “These are a Few of My Favorite Things” still is lively regardless of my voice and it makes the chore more bearable. My children may not like it and my cats may howl, but once the bed is made I stop.

Conducting a job search or writing a report are also things we dread doing. Try to “spice” them up by being more creative. Post a funny saying or cartoon at your desk to remind yourself that this will pass and you just need to plow through it. Also make sure you attach rewards to various tasks. Knowing you are going to have a delicious dish of jambalaya with a glass of wine, salad, and dessert when you are done is a great reward and it will keep you focused and on track!

Ingredients

12 medium shrimp, peeled, deveined and chopped

4 ounces chicken, diced

1 tablespoon Creole seasoning, recipe follows

2 tablespoons olive oil

1/4 cup chopped onion

1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper

1/4 cup chopped celery

2 tablespoons chopped garlic

1/2 cup chopped tomatoes

3 bay leaves

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon hot sauce

3/4 cup rice

3 cups chicken stock

5 ounces Andouille sausage, sliced

Salt and pepper

Emeril’s ESSENCE Creole Seasoning (also referred to as Bayou Blast):

2 1/2 tablespoons paprika

2 tablespoons salt

2 tablespoons garlic powder

1 tablespoon black pepper

1 tablespoon onion powder

1 tablespoon cayenne pepper

1 tablespoon dried oregano

1 tablespoon dried thyme

Directions

In a bowl combine shrimp, chicken and Creole seasoning, and work in seasoning well. In a large saucepan heat oil over high heat with onion, pepper and celery, 3 minutes. Add garlic, tomatoes, bay leaves, Worcestershire and hot sauces. Stir in rice and slowly add broth. Reduce heat to medium and cook until rice absorbs liquid and becomes tender, stirring occasionally, about 15 minutes. When rice is just tender add shrimp and chicken mixture and sausage. Cook until meat is done, about 10 minutes more. Season to taste with salt, pepper and Creole seasoning.

Are You Picking The Right Signal?

Do you know the working principle of radio that we use in daily life? I guess you know. Still, let me tell you that each station sends some signals of some specific frequency. And the receiver in your radio receives them. There are signals of all sorts roaming around. The frequency, to which your receiver is tuned, is received by the receiver. I think we all know that.

Now let’s imagine all the humans on earth are receivers – that radio. And all the events are those stations – signal. Being a receiver, a variety of signal roams around you. Isn’t it? Now, it’s up to you to which frequency you tune yourself. Right? And accordingly, you can enjoy all those signals. This may seem a bit hypothetical. But don’t you think it’s a very practical way of thinking?

Though it seems simple – I mean you are a radio and all the events are stations. That simple… But is it so? Don’t you think there’s a lot more to this radio-station relationship? Can’t we change our life just by tuning to the proper frequency as we do so in the case of real radios? What I’m going to discuss is much crucial to your life.

Each day a lot of things happen to us. You may get promoted in your job, your children may get good grades in school, your spouse may be happy with you, your health may not be that good, your friends may betray you. So on and so forth. Our daily events decide our lifestyle. Sometimes we are happy about them, sometimes sad. But the thing is that you only consider those events which happen to you or to persons close to you. Isn’t it? But in a day, within 24 hours, billions of things happen to billions of people around the globe. Do you know about them? If in a day, you have bought a new car, may be that day, someone might have lost their loved ones. Are you concerned about them? No. Right? But still those events happened without your knowledge. You like it or not, but a billion things happen in a minute without your knowledge. It’s only that you know about those events which happen to you or to people you know. But you’re not concerned about other events. And you needn’t be.

In this world a lot of such events, such signals roam around. We all tune in some particular frequencies. And that’s why we all receive different frequencies. Everyone’s life is different. Some tune into the optimism mode. Those are the guys who only receive signals that are productive. Meaning to say, they only respond to events that are productive for them. And discard other non-productive events. Yet, some people tune into the negative mode. These are the guys who always lament. They can’t see positivity behind anything. In reality; both good and bad, positive and negative, productive and worthless events keep happening. Sometimes with you. Sometimes with others. But it’s up to you to which frequency you tune your receiver. And it’s a matter of experience and inspiration that decide to which frequency you tune into.

Though all good and bad keep happening, it’s nothing to worry about, because as I told you, there’re billions of events that keep happening that you don’t even know. Then why can’t you ignore those negative events that happen to you? Can’t you tune in to a positive frequency? It may be funnier to consider yourself a radio and the events the stations. But isn’t that a powerful way of representing our relation with events of our life? Only when you respond, an event takes its form. You ignore it, it’s simply nothing.

Let’s say in your workplace, a colleague of yours mocked you for something or your boss is dissatisfied with you. Now if you give importance to that event, it keeps on dominating your mind and with time it’ll turn to a scar. May be with time, you feel yourself inferior to your colleagues and may be that your productivity goes down. Now, if instead you ignore those events, you can focus on other productive stuffs and maybe someday those colleagues or your boss appreciates you. Everything depends upon your tuning capacity.

Sharing my personal experience, I had been suffering from a bit of anxiety disorder since my childhood. It was not serious. But still, every time, I’m asked to do something new, I get anxious. One day our science teacher asked us for a lecture presentation in the class. He asked us to prepare a topic and we had to explain that to our classmates. As I just heard him saying that, it gave me a faster heartbeat. I mean I was dead. Still, I decided to do that and prepared a lecture on ‘Gravitational Force.’ It was a page long. I had to memorize that and explain to my classmates. I couldn’t carry that paper. I memorized and next day went to the class. Believe me from the very first class, I got so anxious that I couldn’t concentrate well.

And then came the science class. My roll number was in the middle (alphabetical order). So I could relax for some time. As my name was approaching, my heart started throbbing faster. And then he called out my name. I was dead in the water. Still with great hope and confidence I went to the teacher and started… In the middle of my lecture, I got so nervous that my hands started shivering holding the pencil. And then, just in the middle, I stopped and said – ‘Thank you’ and went to my seat. It was a bad lecture. First, I was not explaining it well and second I stopped in the middle. Now let me tell you the reality. In that class of some 40 students, I had studied astrophysics and cosmology books like no one else. I knew about gravitational force the best. I had even read some academic books on General Relativity. But just because, I was anxious I did terribly bad. That teacher knew me and later suggested me to work on my speaking skills.

But it had nothing to do with my speaking skills. It had to do with my capacity to tune in to positive signals. Even before the lecture presentation, I was so afraid. I had been thinking about all possible bad things that could have happened to me. If you also do that, you can never perform well. That character also made me average in math in the beginning because I was afraid of making mistakes. I was picking all the wrong signals.

Though with time, I improved and today I can boast of my math to a lot extent. I’ve not given any public speech yet, still I’m confident enough to do so. Things improved just because I started picking the right signals. In any sphere of life, it’s very important that you pick the right signal. Only then, you can be successful. There are criticisms, discouragements, trolls, fears in this world. Everyone realizes that. But for you to be audacious, you need to start discarding those signals and instead pick signals that are lifting your life for good.

Mini Games Group 2 FREE – Longest Fingernails (Grose)! Use the Wiimote as a pointer to trace the finger nails along the wibbly lines. This will make then grow. Be careful not to go too fast or too slow as the finger nails might break! You will get 5 try outs, one for each finger and one for the thumb.

UNLOCK 1000 POINTS – Paper Aircraft Accuracy. ‘Throw’ your paper aircraft forward by holding the Wiimote like a dart and making a jerking forward movement. Then tilt the Wiimote gently from side to side and down to get it into the three barrels.

Quick Tip – The harder you ‘throw’ the paper airplane with the Wiimote, the faster it goes. This is good if you can be really accurate with your aim. If not, then try to throw it more gently to begin with until you are a pro!

I find that it is easier to play this game if you hold the Nunchuck in your writing hand. ‘Cast’ your rod by flicking the Wiimote in a forward motion. Next, Reel in your fish by moving the Nunchuck round and around as if you really are reeling! Now you will see some arrows on screen as you are reeling your fish in. This indicates the direction that you should flick your Wiimote in as you reel your fish in with the Nunchuck. If you get this right, you will be able to reel your fish in faster! Good Luck!

Mini Games Group 3 FREE – Most Melons Crushed In 1 Minute. This is a really simple game, but lots of rip roaring fun! Simply swing the Wiimote downwards when you want your avatar to hit the Melons. Now you can see your avatar hit the melons with his/her head! The more melons you crush, the faster they come, so watch out!

UNLOCK 1000 POINTS – Highest Jump On A Pogo Stick. ‘Jump’ by holding the Wiimote sideways with both hands like handle bars and flick the Wiimote upwards. You will need to jump just at the right time to get extra height. Look out for the arrows on the ground, and try to jump when they turn green. Aim for an ‘Excellent’. Now repeat jumping in a pattern of 3 when prompted by onscreen instructions and see where you come on the height measurer!

UNLOCK 5000 POINTS – Most Arrows Caught In A Minute. In this game the Wiimote and Nunchuck control the hands. Move the controllers left and right to catch the arrows as they fly towards you. This sounds easy, but it really isn’t. If you miss an arrow, you will be penalised for a short while and the offending hand wont move.

Quick Tip – This game is all about timing. To get the timing right, try looking at the bottom left and the bottom right of the screen to ‘catch’ the arrows at just the right time!

Mini Games Group 5 FREE – Highest BMX Jump. When the bike is on the ramp, pedal as fast as you can by moving the Wiimote and Nunchuck round and around as if your hands are the feet on the pedals. Get a high jump with the BMX by moving the Wiimote and Nunchuck upwards when the bike leaves the ramp.

Natural Deodorant – Why It’s Time To Ditch The Anti-Perspirant

In the early 1900s, advertisers convinced us that we smelled bad and that we needed to not only prevent odor causing bacteria from growing in our underarms but also prevent sweating. Antiperspirants were forced on us in the form of aluminum chloride. Aluminum chloride works by plugging the sweat glands in the wherever applied. Yes, it achieves the goal of preventing odors and sweat marks in clothing but at what cost?

The human body repairs itself and keep itself operating at top performance levels. Sweat is a natural process that not only serves to keep us cool when our body temperature rises but also to remove waste. When plumbing gets clogged, we take great measures to unclog the pipes and get the waste flowing out of our home. Our body is no different. Plugging sweat glands keeps waste in our bodies that should not be there.

Effects of aluminum based antiperspirants:

Effective Natural Deodorant Ingredients:

  1. Baking soda: Found in many aluminum free deodorants. We use it in our refrigerators to absorb odor. It will do the same thing for our body, absorbing moisture and preventing growth of odor causing bacteria. The downside to baking soda is that it is a salt, like aluminum, and may irritate the skin in the area it is applied to.
  2. Cornstarch: Absorb moisture. Made from corn grain and is a common ingredient in soups and stews.
  3. Coconut oil: Natural antibacterial agent. It is made from the meat of mature coconuts. It helps prevent the growth of odor causing bacteria. It is also used as a cooking oil.
  4. Activated charcoal: Natural purifier. Made from wood or coconut coals. It absorbs moisture and attracts impurities for a detoxifying effect. Activated charcoal medications treat poisonings, diarrhea, indigestion, and gas. It is also used in water purification filters.

What makes antiperspirants unhealthy is that the skin absorbs them interrupting the natural order of the body’s systems. The premise behind natural deodorant is that the ingredients are safe for ingestion but effective at preventing odor while working in harmony with your body.

Can a Raw Food Diet Help With Multiple Sclerosis

In recent years there has been a lot of talk about multiple sclerosis and raw food diets. There is still a large percentage of the medical community that refuses to see the connection between eating a healthy diet and reduced or eliminated symptoms of MS. However, in recent years far more research is being conducted in the areas of diet and nutrition as a way to improve the overall health of the multiple sclerosis patient and alleviate their symptoms.

Why a Multiple Sclerosis Raw Food Diet?

In order for the brain to function properly, it needs a constant supply of micronutrients. These micronutrients are provided to be obtained from the foods we eat. Sadly our standard western diet consists mainly of highly processed foods that have almost no nutrients in them. The contents of these prepackaged foods have literally been cooked to death and are devoid of the minerals, micronutrients and vitamins we need.

By creating treating your multiple sclerosis with a raw food diet, you are eating food that since it has not been heated or cooked in any way, still has 100% of all the essential nutrients that your body needs. How to Build Muscle – Or a Simple Shock Routine

When we first started bodybuilding, more years ago than I care to admit, I admittedly over trained – by a ton. But, because I was very young and bodybuilding was new, I grew anyway. Of course, my gains stalled-as do most bodybuilders – as they progress from a beginning bodybuilder to a more advanced one. That is just the way it goes – if it did not, most of us would be over three-hundred pounds of ripped muscle.

I guess we can all dream!

Seriously, though, sometimes, you need to shock your muscles into new growth, and what follows is just that – a shock routine.

The routine is broken up into two workouts, one is focused on pure power movements and the other, is focused on getting the largest pump possible. Ideally, the first workout should be done early in the morning, and the second one should be done late in the day, to allow the maximum amount of recovery between the workouts. I realize that for some people this might not be possible, so just do the best you can.

NOTE:

Because this routine is advanced, I would recommend that you wait until you have at least two years of solid workouts under your belt before you try the routine you will find below.

Lastly, I picked chest for this article but you can use this approach for any body part.

Here we go!

POWER PLAY

The two exercises you will be using for your first workout of the day are incline barbell presses and chest dips. I chose the incline press over the flat bench because I feel that the flat bench is just too hard on the shoulders.

For the presses, stick to the tried and true 5×5 system – that is five sets of five reps per set, for a total of twenty-five reps. Your goal is to use as much weight as you can, but only if you can use it in PERFECT form.

Please, pause with the bar on your chest for four seconds on each rep.

For the chest dips, just do any many reps as you can for the five sets. Please to not swing during these, again your form must be perfect on each rep.

As for your rest periods – rest as long as you need to feel recovered as again, your goal is to use as much weight as possible.

When you are finished with the above two exercises, stretch out your chest and then take in some good food or supplements post-workout to help with recovery. I prefer a whey protein shake, but if you have a preferred method, by all means use it.

ANOTHER NOTE:

Ideally, if you have the time, you should take a nap sometime after the workout to help you recover for the next workout of the day. If you can not, just take it as easy as you can.

GOING FOR THE PUMP

Your second and final workout of the day focuses on getting the maximum pump possible.

The two exercises you will be using will be barbell pull overs and push-ups.

Over the six or so weeks that you will use this chest shock routine which is the maximum amount of time I suggest you use this routine. You should work up to five super-sets of the above two exercises.

First do a set of twenty breathing pull overs. The weight does not matter with these, use enough so that you feel it, but not so much that you are struggling.

YET ANOTHER NOTE:

By breathing pull overs, I mean that you should expand your chest as much as you can during each rep.

OK

So you have finished your set of twenty "breathing" pull overs – now jump IMMEDIATLEY into doing push-ups.

Do as many as you can without going to failure; leave a few "in the hole".

Rest two minutes, and do another super set.

When you can get all five sets, you can start wearing a weight vest for the push-ups.

You do not need to increase the weight you use on the pull overs, as I Do not want you to lose the feel of the movement.

Once you are done, make sure you take in your post-workout meal, and then if possible, hit the sack for the night.

CONCLUSION

I know the above routine is tough, but again, please remember, that the above routine is mainly for shocking your chest (or whatever body part you use it for) into new growth and should not be used as your normal routine.

When you do decide to use the above routine, make sure you clean out your schedule so that you have the time and energy to do justice to the routine.

Exercises to Increase Vertical – Effective and Popular Exercises to Increase Vertical Jump

If you are a basketball player then no doubt you dream about having a "Michael Jordan hang time of 2+ second" that gives one an illusion of flying through the air! All serious basket ball players want to know the secret of "dunking" better. The fact remains that one has to first understand one's body – like body weight has almost 50% muscle tissue, and out of the three groups of muscle (cardiac, skeletal and smooth) it is the skeletal muscles that help us to move, and other facts.

Like ballet dancers, basketball players also need to be flexible to dunk well. Stretching exercises that have been drilled into you by your coach are not "sissy" or "useless". In fact, they are found to help effectively in bringing about a dramatic increase in "vertical leap / jump" by a few inches.

Stretching after a warm up is essential. Stretch your calves by placing both hands on a pole. Put one foot 24 inches behind the other and lean in a direction direction till you can feel your calves stretching. Hold that position for a few minutes. The Achilles tendon in your foot can also be stretched by bending your knee of your leg that you keep at the back during a stretch. Toe touches should be done till it begins to hurt. Another effective stretch is to hold the pole and at the same time grab a leg behind and hold it till you feel the effects on the top portion of your leg. After this, you should lie down on your back pulling your leg towards your chest and hold it in that position to stretch your lower back. Repeat this exercise with both legs.

Do regular jumping exercises by trying to touch the basketball hoop with a jump / running jump. Aim to touch the backboard. Keep pushing yourself to jump higher and higher – going from the backboard to the rim of the hoop etc. Consistent jumping will make you jump higher in no time.

Never forgetting that quality is more important than quantity, make sure that you train accordingly. To get maximum height you will have to give your very best in doing the proper exercises to increase vertical jumps . Your vertical is bound to improve if you earnestly try for more distance every time you jump.

Rest for about two minutes between each set of exercises and do not workout for more than an hour every day. It is important that you progress with weights as much as it is possible because if your body muscles are satisfied and do not think they have to get stronger, then your vertical will not get any higher either! Always keep in mind that overtraining could cause damage to your joints and even bring on early arthritis, and you do not want that. Keep a record of your reps, exercises, sets and weights that you use for each exercise so that you know how much to increase in a regular manner.
