How to Write a Letter From the Easter Bunny

Imagine having to hop all over the world in one night, toting Easter baskets and eggs while you’re at it. With all those responsibilities, plus the lack of opposable thumbs, is it any wonder the Easter Bunny sometimes doesn’t get around to writing letters to little boys and girls? Fortunately, it’s easy for grownups to help the rabbit out and write a letter themselves.

Parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, friends and other loved ones can write an Easter Bunny letter from scratch, or, to make the process much simpler yet still personal, they can choose to customize a letter found on the Internet. Additionally, some Web sites offer letters already formatted on attractive, full-color Easter letterhead that can be instantly downloaded and printed.

No professional writing skills are needed to write a letter from the Easter Bunny. By following a few basic tips, knowing the child and getting into a “bunny” frame of mind, you, too, can make Easter extra-special with a letter from a very special rabbit.

First, decide on timing. When and how do you want the letter to be delivered? If it will be sent in the mail, you’ll need to get it written, formatted, printed and sent off with days to spare. For older children, you might also want to consider taking steps to make sure the letter isn’t postmarked from your own town. If you would rather present the letter on Easter morning, either set by a plate of half-eaten carrots or placed inside an Easter basket, you’ll have more flexibility, since pre-formatted letters can be downloaded and printed from the Internet.

When writing, consider the tone of the letter you want the bunny to present. Most people consider the Easter Bunny to be a jovial and fun-loving fellow. References to hopping around, chomping on carrots and so on are all good ideas. You might choose to have the bunny offer some gentle advice, such as being patient with little siblings during the egg hunt, going to bed early on Saturday or waiting until after Easter dinner to enjoy that chocolate rabbit.

Jokes are fun to include in an Easter letter, as are puns. You could also mention “hopping down the bunny trail,” “nose twitching” and other rabbit characteristics. Another approach is to praise the child for getting so good at finding eggs that it’s now a challenge to hide them.

To make the letter ever more personal, consider adding some details about the child’s own family or home, such as the bunny’s encounter with a family pet, or the challenge of finding new hiding places in the child’s yard or house. If the child “met” him at the mall or elsewhere, you could mention that.

If your family is of the Christian faith, you may want reference the resurrection of Christ, Sunday church services or other religious traditions or beliefs.

Don’t feel pressured to make the letter “perfect.” Children will be excited just to hear from the bunny, whether the letter is long or short, elaborate or to-the-point. (Most kids would get a kick out of a simple “Thanks for the carrot” note.)

Easter Bunny letters can be handwritten, typed or printed from a computer. It’s nice to use quality stationery, preferably with an Easter theme. Again, “sign” the letter as E. Bunny, Peter Cottontail, etc. If the letter is to be given to an older child, you may want to take special care to type the letter, disguise handwriting, add the “signature” and so on.

If you as the bunny’s helper write from the heart, you’ll be sure to craft a clever, cute letter that any child will cherish.

Pipe Welding 101 – Getting a Head Start on Welding Technique

Pipe welding can be much easier if you follow two rules:

  1. Always set your machine correctly.
  2. Always make yourself as comfortable as possible.

Setting your machine correctly is a rule that you should never deviate from. When it comes to welding pipe especially, it is an absolute must! Pipe welding requires setting your machine to weld in any position without changing any settings. For Stick and TIG welding, you could always change the heat a little with your arc length. For example, if you are welding on the bottom of the pipe and need more heat you could long arc a little more. This would increase the heat and spread out the weld better. The vertical areas could be short arced to drop the heat a little. In general, you want the welder to run on a setting that allows you to weld in any position without needing to change the amperage or voltage.

Comfort is what separates a seasoned welder from a novice. Unfortunately for both the professional and the newbie, they will all inevitably have to weld pipe in many difficult positions. Pipes can be right against a wall, floor, or ceiling. They could be high up and many times underground. To weld pipe you need to be creative in how you position yourself. In many cases you need to find whatever is available to make the best of the situation. The easiest way to get comfortable is to lean on the pipe. It gives your body and hands a stable platform to focus on welding technique. Sometimes the objects that make a weld difficult could be used to your advantage. For example, if the pipe you are going to weld is close to another pipe it can be used as a place to lean on.

In the end, you want to set your machine correctly and find a comfortable position. Once you have these two key elements down all you need do is focus on your welding technique.

Pros and Cons of Prostate Massage

Prostate massage has been used to relieve the pain and tenderness of prostatitis. In many males, the massage alleviates the discomfort and swelling and is an alternative to surgery or medications to treat the symptoms of prostatitis. There are several methods and techiques involved with this. One method is to use a long sterile instrument and slide it in and out of the rectum with a light but firm pressure. This is usually done for about ten minutes before cessation. Another method used to massage the prostate, is by using a prostate stimulating device. The device fits inside the rectum and is an automatic stimulator.Men who use the device method for prostate massage report an increase in strength and tone as well as overall better bladder control. Most devices have been medically approved and they come in small, medium and large sizes. The device works by inserting and then squeezing the muscles of the anal sphincter.

Another type is the peripheral prostate massage. This is done by a medical professional. There are four categories: abdominal peripheral, inner thigh periheral massage, perineum massage, and the anal peripheral massage. Having a consultation with a medical professional will help determine which option is the most suitable one.

There are two techinques used. These are the gentle massage and the vigorous massage. The gentle massage helps to facilitate drainage in a swollen prostate. It also relieves the tension and pain in the surrounding areas. Vigorous massage involves a more aggressive technique and has many associated risks. These risks include tearing, and release of toxic antigens. Tearing of the urethra can result in a patient developing a urethral stricture over time and can go undetected for months. Another risk of vigorous massage is the backup of urethral flora in the epididymis, which could lead to epididymitis, or inflammation of the urethra.

If toxic antigens are released during vigorous massage, then septicimia can occur, which is fatal. Yet another risk of vigorous massage is perforation of the lining of the rectum. Once the lining is torn or perforated, it can cause hemorroids. It is important to note that continual movement in the massage procedure is essential. Do not push in one place, but rather move laterally to avoid any damage to the glands.

If any pain or bleeding is noted after receiving a prostate massage, consult your physician.

The Pros and Cons of Trenchless Pipe Replacement

If you have ever had to have your sewer lines or indoor plumbing lines repaired, or perhaps you have heard the stories told by others, then you know how arduous a process it can be. So, if you find yourself in need of new water lines or pipes, then chances are, you are not looking forward to the experience. But what if there were an alternative to the traditional sewer and water lines? Rather having your lawn or driveway dug up and making the yard look unsightly and causing a long list of inconveniences for your household, now you can opt for trenchless pipe replacement.

Simply put, trenchless pipe replacement (sometimes called pipe rehabilitation, pipe breaking, trenchless technology or no dig) is when underground pipe-work is replaced without digging long, ugly trenches that disrupt lawns, sidewalks, driveways and other features of your property. In fact, when trenchless pipe replacement is used there is 90% less damage done to the grounds or concrete work. Of course, this is not the only reason, albeit a good one, that many people are opting for trenchless pipes rather than the traditional. Here are some of the other advantages of trenchless pipe replacement.

  • Pipe rehabilitation can save on your water, electrical and gas lines because it does not need to be turned off or re-installed due to digging a new drain line.
  • If in the future, you have any problems with your sewer/water lines, a trenchless system works more effectively with a sewer camera inspection making it easy to determine where the problem is.
  • The no dig technology means that water flows better and the plumbing system is longer lasting than “traditional” pipelines.
  • Trenchless pipe replacement is cheaper than sewer line replacement because it is not necessary to dig up the sewer lines and destroy the existing landscape and cement work. As a result, you will not have the added expense of repairing your yard after the job is complete.
  • Trenchless pipe replacement can be done anywhere-whether you live in the mountains, the city or at the beach, no region is off limits for pipe rehabilitation.
  • Any future repairs are easily made via the 2 small access points at either end of the pipeline, meaning that it is not necessary to uncover the entire system.

Like anything else in life, if there are advantages to something, there are usually disadvantages as well. Trenchless pipe replacement is no different. Here are the disadvantages of trenchless pipe replacement:

  • In order to maintain that any additional lines-electrical, gas, etc… are not damaged, it may be necessary for the workers to do some hand digging in the yard to establish where these lines are located.
  • The labor cost can be higher as the equipment used is expensive.
  • Occasionally, it may be necessary to remove some of the landscaping, but only if the root system of the plants it will cause future problems.

Youth Baseball Drills – "Shine the Light Drill"

One great word picture that we use to help hitters get short to the ball is what we call “Shine the Light”. In our youth baseball drills, If we can help the hitter to visualize the knob of the bat as a flashlight, it will help him to get inside the pitch and achieve the short, compact stroke.

Most hitters will initially drive the knob of the bat towards the ground and they begin their stroke. This causes the bat to flip behind them, causing a long stroke, and taking the hands out of position.

Also, if the hitter lifts the front shoulder just one inch, this will also invite the bat knob to drop down.

Here’s one of our best youth baseball hitting tips. Imagine a laser beam coming from the flashlight directly to the ball. Ask the hitter to immediately “shine the light” on the ball, driving the knob in the direction of the pitch. This will help to correct the long stroke and get the bat head into the proper contact position.

This is easy. “Shine the Light”. From that point the short stroke and proper contact will follow.

We have experienced immediate improvement in our instruction with this simple concept….”Shine the Light”. Some of our hitters have seen results in as little as 7 days.

Here is a very important point to make this effective for you. Your stride will not be vital to hit the ball. It simply will allow the hitter to be in a better position to meet the baseball. In other words, the hands are still in the lock position at the end of the stride. Your stride will overcome inertia and give a level of support that will enable you hit the fastball.

Advantages (And Disadvantages) Of Installing Bi-Fold Doors

Bi-fold doors are the doors that fold in on themselves; whether they come in two or four sections (or more, if they’re custom-made), the opening is in the middle. They are usually suspended from overhead tracks by rollers or casters, with lower tracks to guide them. The panels, connected by centralized hinges, can be pulled back and forth by a knob or pull on the innermost panel.

Most often used as an alternative to sliding doors, French doors, and regular closet doors, larger ones can be used as room dividers, while their smaller versions can be found in kitchen pass-throughs or laundry rooms.

The benefits of saving a lot of space are obvious: they take up much less space when opened than regular doors; it can be argued that installing bi-fold doors actually creates extra space. For example, when used as patio doors, bi-fold doors allow you to open up your house outdoors, and let the fresh air and natural light in. That makes them ideal wherever the unobstructed views are desirable.

Bi-fold doors look equally good whether they’re closed, open, or half open. You can choose from a range of materials: wood, aluminum and vinyl are the most common. Bi-fold doors made from premium hardwood, like timber, can add a touch of class with a modern flare to any space.

Are there some drawbacks to installing bi-fold doors? Although more common than before, they are still considered somewhat of a luxury: they cost more than regular doors. The cost may be well worth it, though: not only because of their high functionality, but because they tend to give any space a contemporary, elegant appearance.

What about the security? Don’t get fooled by their looks: they are made to be robust, and can be additionally fitted with anti-drill key cylinders and high-security hinges. If you’re worried about children trapping their fingers between the panels, you’ll be relieved to find out that the newest bi-fold doors come with a safety feature to prevent such accidents.

People who habitually pull the knob on a bi-fold door outwards, like on a regular door – and not sideways, like they are designed to be pulled – can put a lot of pressure on the tracks and casters. That can lead to tracks becoming bent, or casters slipping out. If you decide to install bi-fold doors, to enjoy all the benefits that they have to offer for a long time, make a point to always push the doors to the side in a linear fashion.

Social Effects Of Downsizing Human Resources

A set of thorny process issues concerns the impact of downsizing on the local community. Downsizing, especially focused layoffs by large corporations (that lead, say, to the closure of an entire facility), can have devastating impacts on a local community. As extreme examples, there are cases of rural community’s simply disappearing after a local lumber mill or mine is closed.

These considerations obviously have to be weighed in management’s decisions about where and how to cut. And this is more than a matter of ethical behavior. A firm that devastates one community may “get away with it” in terms of that community’s ability to strike back. But the firm can substantially harm its reputation, particularly insofar as the firm has explicitly emphasized positive community relations as a matter of corporate policy. If downsizing is necessary, what can be done? Roughly put, a firm that is downsizing in a way that will materially harm a local community should give due consideration to doing what it can to help that community, just as it considers what it should do to help its downsized ex-employees. Facilities may be redeployed. Workers at a facility may wish to “buyout” the facility and run it themselves. It may be possible to help attract a replacement employer. Re-training can be subsidized. Such costly attempts to attenuate the impact of a downsizing decision are more than just conscience money for a firm, and more than just a way for top management of the corporation to be able to sleep better at night, although they are certainly that. Corporations carry reputations as employers and as corporate citizens, and while it is hard to put “community goodwill” on your balance sheet, it is an asset that pays returns and that requires investment to maintain.

Layoffs are among the most important and anxiety-producing things that a manager must confront. They have profound implications not only for the employees involved, the manager, and the organizational unit implicated, but also for the broader community within which the enterprise is located. The jury is still out on the long-term economic and social consequences of downsizing, used by firms to lower costs, increase productivity, and enhance flexibility in the competitive world economy. Unfortunately, there is a shortage of solid research evidence to guide managers in making decisions about whether and how to downsize. This shortage doesn’t reflect lack of effort and interest, we hasten to add, but instead the inherent difficulties in finding good controlled data.

Downsizing seems to work best as part of a well-thought-out plan for restructuring, re-engineering, repositioning, and generally rethinking what the organization does and why. To engage in downsizing is either an admission of previous mismanagement or an acknowledgment that something-in the environment, the organization’s strategy, its technology-has changed. Management should be clear in its own mind, and probably also with employees, on which it is. And it should be clear about what permanent, structural changes are going to be made to avoid previous problems or meet new circumstances.

One structural change that often accompanies downsizing is outsourcing. The firm decides that there are certain tasks, which in the past have been done primarily by its regular employees, that would be done better, faster, or more cheaply by outsiders. Those who used to do the work are downsized. This coupling of downsizing and outsourcing is sometimes done in a completely ineffective fashion: Work previously done by insiders is outsourced to more expensive independent contractors, who happen to be the very same workers who were just laid off, now hired back as consultants, potentially raising eyebrows not only inside the organization but outside as well (including tax and regulatory authorities). But outsourcing can have real economic benefits, and it can play a constructive, if somewhat dangerous, role in a downsizing campaign.

Treadmill Deck Info: Treadmill Decks Materials and Warranty

Treadmill deck is the material that forms the hard surface on which you run. In other words it’s the supportive surface. This article distinguishes the decking from the tread belt which is the belt that moves across the decking.

Treadmill manufacturers don’t provide a great deal of information about the actual construction materials of their decks. These days most treadmills, especially if priced above $1,000 are constructed with decently strong tread decks (usually medium density fibreboard with a duo phenolic coating – all discussed in detail below).

However, strength isn’t the be all and end all. If strength were most important, more treadmill manufacturers would use metal. Metal is used, but not extensively.

What are decking construction objectives?

Like I said above, if strength was the only objective, metal or steel decks would rule the day. But strength isn’t the only objective. Quality decking should:

  • Be strong
  • Be durable
  • Have some elasticity (i.e. slightly flexible, but not bouncy)
  • Minimize noise (i.e. muffle noise if possible)
  • Have a smooth surface to minimize tread belt friction

What materials are used?

Often you’ll see reference to solid wood, medium density fibreboard (MDF), and metal as materials used for treadmill decks. For coating you’ll usually read about phenolic coating. The article explains these different materials.

1. Medium density fibreboard (MDF)

MDF is created by breaking down wood into fibres (sawdust) and then forming the fibres into a solid treadmill deck with wax and resin. The usual thickness is 3/4″ to 1″. You can read more about MDF here.

MDF is the predominant material used for treadmill decks.

2. Solid wood

The deck is made out of 3/4″ to 1″ solid wood. The trouble with solid wood is it’s hard to find a piece of wood that is perfect. MDF, although not perfect either, ensures a consistency that’s hard to find with solid wood.

Particle board: Particle board is no the same as MDF. Particle board is not fibre-based. It’s a solid wood composite product. The result is that particle board is much weaker than MDF. MDF is denser and stronger.

Avoid treadmills with decks using particle board. You’ll be lucky to get a year out of it.

3. Metal

Metal decks are not nearly as prevalent as solid wood or MDF decks. It’s heavier and doesn’t create as “soft” of a surface as wood or MDF. Running on metal or steel simply isn’t as enjoyable as on solid wood or MDF.

What material do I recommend?

MDF deck that is duo or triple coated with phenolic resin coating.

The coating

Some treadmills are coated on both sides (duo-coating, sometimes also referred to as triple-coating), while lower-quality treadmills coat only 1 side of a treadmill deck. The better deck is coated on both sides which helps reduce warping. It’s also better for reducing friction with the tread deck along the entire surface area on which the tread belt moves.

Best material used for coating:

Phenolic: This is the best coating material. You’ll pay more for phenolic coating, but it’s worth it.

What is phenolic resin coating?

Phenolic resin coating is a plastic resin. When a treadmill deck is coated with phenolic resin, wax the wood deck is unnecessary.

Can you build your own if your original deck breaks?

Yes, but it’s not advisable unless you really know what you’re doing. Simply slamming in a sheet of plywood or MDF isn’t going to do it. There’s properly coating the deck and ensuring it securely attaches to the treadmill.

The last thing you want is your deck to break apart when running or walking.

This is why having a lifetime warranty on your treadmill deck is important. Decks often break or crack (especially with lower-priced treadmills).

Decking Considerations

Replacement frequency

The range in the number of hours of use treadmill decks are good for is astounding. Some lower-end treadmill decks are designed for 500 hours, while other warranty their decks for life. Naturally the intensity of use and weight of users will impact the duration of a treadmill deck.

Is it reversible?

Some treadmill manufacturers make reversible tread decks so that you can get more mileage out of them.

Is reversible good?

It depends. Some manufacturers make treadmill decks that are warrantied for a lifetime without having to reverse them. Others don’t come with a lifetime warranty and can’t be reversed. These may have the shortest lifespan. Then there are treadmills with reversible decks which in theory doubles the lifespan of the treadmill deck.

The warranty

Ideally, the treadmill you buy will have a lifetime warranty on the deck. This is indicative the manufacturer stands behind the deck and in the event the deck fails, you get a replacement.

Cushioning technology

Cushioning technology is pretty cool these days. Treadmill cushioning technology includes the amount of, type of, and quality of the treadmill cushioning.

Nadru Monje – Fritters of Lotus Stem In Kashmiri Style

Muskaan Shah, my best friend and sister, invited me to her place to help her mother in cooking. Why? Her brother Masroor Bhaiji was arriving from Srinagar with his family. She wanted me to meet them and interact with his family. I was busy in the kitchen, standing next to Mummyji (Muskaan’s mother) and completing various jobs like chopping vegetable for salads, grinding various spices, cleaning coriander leaves, etc.

At 4 o’clock sharp, the bell rang and I could see small kids running from the front door to the bed room and were excited to meet Muskaan. She introduced me to the entire family. After sometime, she called me again and handed over a bag. She said that the contents of the bag were called NADRU MONJE – her favourite snack. It was prepared by her sister-in-law. I started munching them and instantly mesmerised by the taste of it. They were the long strips and very crispy by texture.

Next moment I asked them to give me the recipe. She asked me to enjoy the dish and forget about the recipe. However, as the years passed by, I learnt the recipe. There are three different versions of the recipe. I would be sharing all three of them in this article.

Nadru Monje In Rice Flour

Ingredients Required

  • Lotus Stems-1 kg
  • Rice flour-3 cups
  • Kashmiri Red Chilli Powder-2 tablespoons
  • Asafoetida-1/2 tablespoon
  • Salt-1 tablespoon
  • Oil-1 kg
  • Water-1 cup

Steps For Preparation

  • Clean and wash the lotus stems properly under the running water.
  • Scrap the outer covering of the lotus stems.
  • Cut the long strips lengthwise from lotus stems
  • Place them in an utensil filled with water.
  • Take another utensil.
  • Add rice flour into it.
  • Add kashmiri red chilli powder into the rice flour.
  • Add salt into it.
  • Add asafoetida into it.
  • Mix them well with fingers.
  • Add water into the flour.
  • Blend all of them together in a smooth batter.
  • Take the precaution for not adding more water to the batter. The batter should be of thick consistency.
  • Take a large wok and place it on the gas stove.
  • Add oil into it and turn on the gas stove.
  • Remove the lotus stem strips from water.
  • Remove the excess water from the lotus stems
  • Add them to the batter.
  • Dip the strips properly into the batter.
  • Check if the oil has reached to its maximum temperature.
  • Place each dipped strip of lotus stem into oil.
  • Turn them to the other side once it is fried well.
  • Keep tossing the strips continuously in order to avoid them from charring in the oil.
  • Once the strips are well fried in the oil, remove them and place them on a tissue paper. This helps in the removal of the excess oil present in the fritters.
  • Serve them immediately with mint chutney or tomato sauce.

This is genuine and authentic recipe of nadru monje. I was surprised to know that this dish is prepared in a lavish manner and distributed to all the devotees and tourists visiting Hazrat Bal Mosque in Srinagar, Kashmir. Later on, I came to know that Sufi saints favoured the snack in the valley. Even now the snack is in great demand at this place. It is one of the starters in the Islamic Kashmiri Cuisine. The above mentioned recipe is relished by all kashmiri individuals.

The Nadru Monje In Gram Flour

Ingredients Required

  • Lotus Stems-1 kg
  • Gram Flour-3 cups
  • Kashmiri Red Chilli Powder-1 tablespoon
  • Salt-1 tablespoon
  • Water-1 cup
  • Turmeric Powder-1 tablespoon
  • Oil-1 kg
  • Cumin Seeds-1 tablespoon

Steps For Preparation

  • Clean the lotus stems under the running water.
  • Cut them legthwise and get the strips from the lotus stem.
  • Place them in an utensil filled with water.
  • Take an utensil and add gram flour, salt, kashmiri red chilli powder, turmeric powder and cumin seeds.
  • Add sufficient water in order to make the smooth batter.
  • Remove the excess water from lotus stems and add them to the batter.
  • Take a wok and add oil into it.
  • Place it on a gas stove.
  • Once the oil has reached to its maximum temperature, place the strips of lotus stems into it.
  • Fry them well in oil.
  • Remove them from oil and place them on a tissue paper.
  • Serve them with tomato sauce.

Yet there are others who would like to add one or two eggs in the rice flour to prepare the fritters. This gives an entirely different taste to the fritters. No matter what version one would like to adopt for its preparation, the snack is ready to be enjoyed by one and all in the family.

I like the first version of this snack. I came to know that the snack helps for individuals suffering from low blood pressure. It helps in the removal of the mood swings. It is best for the person in depression. I simply like the snack and prepare it whenever I desire for it and share it with all my folks back at home.

Parental Participation Leads To Science Success For Kids

Early exposure to science is critical because science knowledge is cumulative. Learning science requires a solid foundation of knowledge that can be built upon through further study and exploration. Children should be introduced to science at home as early as possible. Don’t make the mistake of thinking that your child learns all the science they need to know at school. The truth is science education in school is limited and the subject is not usually a high priority for educators. As parents, it is important that we share our knowledge with our children. Every day activities such as growing plants, cooking and caring for animals involve science. Take a look around and you will see that science is everywhere. Parents can choose to engage in scientific activities with their children when they are not in school to build scientific comprehension, encourage scientific exploration and foster a love for science and the pursuit of knowledge.

There are aspects of science that are intellectually demanding, but often simple experiences produce insightful learning. To engage your children in science you need to introduce them to stimulating environments that provide opportunities for observing and discussing science. Zoos, nature centers, oceans, parks, yards and even kitchens are perfect educational environments. Children naturally learn through playful exploration. Educational DVDs, and toys provoke thought and develop skills. When children ask questions to satisfy their natural curiosity, it is an open opportunity to be seized by the parent.

For instance, if a child is fascinated by a light switch and wants to know how it turns the light on and off, inquire into the subject with your child. Find out why and how the switch works. Why does yeast make bread rise? How does a spider spin a web? Why do leaves fall? Why do the birds disappear in the winter?

Identify your child’s interests and encourage them. If a child develops an interest in rocks, study rocks, gems, mining and fossils and build on that curiosity moving on to fossil fuels, heat generation and environmental effects. You will find that one inquiry leads to another.

Fuel their natural curiosity. These activities should be challenging without being frustrating. Don’t force them to do things they are not interested in; rather, engage them in motivating activities that build desire for further exploration. Share your own science related interests and you will be amazed by the impact of genuine enthusiasm. Remember that discussion is a key component to developing scientific knowledge and uncovering additional areas of interest. Encourage your child to talk about their experiences, observations and interests. This discussion will help children to construct thoughts, to form concepts and to examine different relationships that are intermingled in their ideas.

Some simple activities that foster knowledge of and interest in science include: “Finding out how and why things work”, “Sharing ideas and knowledge”, “Making observations and writing or drawing those observations down”, “Making predictions and seeking answers”, “Starting collections -such as rocks or bugs- and observing similarities and differences”, “Figuring out what causes things to change”, “Having science parties with family and friends”, “Enrolling your child in classes or extra-curricular activities involving science”.

Your home, your environment and your surroundings are filled with opportunities to share science with your children. Through engaging their interests and encouraging their search for knowledge, you can ensure success in science!

What Are the Primary Goals of Information Security?

It does not take a proverbial rocket scientist to figure out basic goals of information security. In fact, the major goal is in the name itself: securing information. The twin sister field called information assurance, also has the main goal in its title.

But if you've been reading these all along, the goals of this growing field (and your roles and responsibilities in it) should be getting clear. Just as there were three large, overarching areas that organizations and companies need to consider in the security realm, so too there are three goals that each security policy should highlight: prevention, detection, and response. No policy should exist that does not address these three goals.

Prevention is the means and methods that security professionals use to block someone from entering a network. Expanded to a more global aspect, prevention is not allowing someone access to your site or building. Prevention is stopping that person before he or she penetrates a system or facility.

Detection is being able to identify activities as they occur. If someone is breaking into your building you want to know this moment that this is occurring. Knowing about it an hour or even a few minutes after the fact is not a good practice. Much damage can be done in five minutes and certainly in 30 minutes or more. Detection is the ability to identify and halt someone at the moment.

Finally, response is methods and procedures you have in place to deal with an intrusion. Responses should be appropriate to the incident. For instance, if you discover through detection software that someone is purely pinging your site to check for vulnerabilities, there's no need to send an alarm to the FBI because you detected the attempt, identified the source and IP address, verified it against all your database and determined that it was not malicious. Those corporate policies should be well established and in place. However, if that same person keeps pinging your site for hours on end trying to find a hole in your security, you will want to take broader actions.

Information security goals should be the norm of every help desk and security professional tasked to guard your company's or the government's public sector network. When these are set in motion, securing the information will be a breeze. If, however, management gets lax in implementing the policies or the system administrator neglects her duties, it can have a devastating effect on the company's entire security posture.

Benefits Of An Architectural CAD Library

CAD, computer aided design, is a software solution used in a host of industries around the world. Thousands of people rely on this software daily to complete their tasks effectively. Architectural CAD libraries can be highly beneficial when it comes to drawings for a new property, offering a host of benefits that you simply cannot ignore if you are in the architectural industry.

One of the benefits of an architectural CAD library is that it includes all the common objects you need when designing a building or home. You will find a full range of different windows and doors, along with other basic objects such as baths, toilets, beds and more. This can save you valuable time during the design process, eliminating the need to draw each window into the drawing, you simply drag and drop for added convenience.

Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment of Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS)

Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS) refers to a group of blood disorders resulting from a dysfunction in the bone marrow. This causes ineffective blood production resulting in symptoms such as anemia, fatigue, recurrent fever, heart disease, and bleeding from different parts of the body. A reduction in the immune response of the body can result in recurrent infections which may have a fatal outcome. In the late or severe stage of the disease, the patient may suffer from shock and serious secondary infection which may cause death. When there is no known cause of the disease, it is known as primary MDS. This condition is known as secondary when it results from known causes such as chemotherapy, radiation therapy, viral infection, exposure to chemicals, and having a genetic disposition to the disease.

Patients suffering from MDS are conservatively treated with packed cell transfusions which temporarily alleviate the situation; however, this can result in a buildup of excess iron in the body and result in long-term complications over time. The administration of medicines like ATG can result in improvement in about 30-60 percent cases; however the response is unpredictable and wanes over time, in addition to the treatment being prohibitively costly. In this scenario, treatment with Ayurvedic herbal medicines can be quite safe and effective in the long run. It is important to initiate treatment at the earliest in order to get maximum therapeutic benefit from treatment and a long-term remission or cure.

MDS is different from aplastic anemia in that, in addition to a lack of red blood cells and white blood cells, there are morphological abnormalities in the cells. The greater the percentage of abnormalities in the cells, the poorer is the overall long-term prognosis in affected individuals. Ayurvedic herbal treatment is focused on treating the bone marrow so as to help generate healthy white and red cells. Treatment consists of herbal and herbomineral medicines which act on the bone marrow and form the mainstay of treatment; these need to be given in high doses and for prolonged periods. Herbal medicines can be safely given for prolonged periods without any major adverse effects and are also quite economical in the long run. Medicines can be given orally in the form of tablets, and are overall quite easy to administer.

Panchkarma treatment, which forms the mainstay of treatment for serious medical conditions, is quite effective in the management of MDS as a supplementary treatment modality. Use of Panchkarma procedures helps in promoting a faster response, reduced treatment time, as well as lesser doses of required medicines. A special Panchkarma procedure known as basti (medical enema) is used very successfully in the management of various disorders. A specialized form of basti known as Tikta Ksheer Basti is utilised in MDS treatment. This consists of a series of courses of administration of milk treated with herbs. This is prepared by boiling milk with different bitter herbs which include mainly Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia). About 100 ml of this medicated milk is administered as enema. This procedure is quite simple and can be safely given to patients of old age too without any risk of side-effects or complications.

Depending upon the severity of the condition, treatment for MDS needs to be given for periods ranging from 6 to 9 months. Complications like acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) are quite well-known in patients suffering from MDS. Such complications too can be treated successfully with Ayurvedic herbal medication and Panchkarma treatment. It is important to aggressively treat this disease so as to obtain an early remission and prevent a relapse. After this, treatment can be gradually tapered over several months. Additionally, it is also important to monitor the patient for the next few years so as to detect a relapse of the condition. Relapses can be treated with short booster doses of treatment ranging from two to three months or more.

Serious medical conditions like MDS can be successfully and efficiently managed with the help of Ayurvedic herbal treatment and Panchkarma procedures. Ayurveda thus has a significant role to play in the management of MDS.

5 DIY Slime Recipes That Are Totally Worth Trying!

If you’ve gotten tired of just watching videos of people playing with slime or don’t know what slime is, yet want to give it a try, this article is for you! Slime is a unique play material composed of a cross-linked polymer. “Play material” caught your eye didn’t it? Well just like its name suggests, it is amazing to play with and a great stress buster to revive on.

Slime doesn’t just come in one single form or is made in a single way. There are many different types of slime that can satisfy a person in distress. Each form of slime has its own method of preparation, here are five of which we’d like to share with you!

1) Fluffy slime

This recipe is the easiest and simplest of all! Just like the name suggests, fluffy slime feels softer and lighter compared to a regular slime, and it might be soft enough for your hands to feel great while playing with it during your stress buster session.

• Mixing bowl

• Mixing spoon

• Shaving foam cream

• Elmer’s glue or PVA Glue

• Contact lens solution

• Baking Soda

• Food coloring (choice)

A) Add some PVA glue or elmer’s glue into the mixing bowl (not much of it is required as this recipe makes a decent amount of slime even with a less amount of glue used) and add shaving cream foam (after shaking the can well) into the bowl of glue.

B) Add a pinch of baking soda into the same bowl (Baking soda Loosens the slime to make it less sticky to surfaces) and mix it well with a mixing spoon.

C) Add a few drops of your choice of food coloring into the mixture and mix again, for the color to show.

D) Add a small amount of contact lens solution into the mixture and mix until it becomes a slimy structure (keep adding a small amount after a good mix if it doesn’t but be sure not to add too much as it might make the slime break instead of spreading) When the mixture detaches from the bowl and becomes a blob, that’s when the slime is ready!

2) Crunchy Slime

Crunchy slime, as its name suggests is fun to play with because of the sound it makes. So here’s how to make some Crunchy slime!

• Mixing bowl

• Mixing spoon

• Stay-Flo liquid starch

• Clear Elmer’s or PVA glue

• Clear beads

• Food coloring of your choice

A) Pour some amount of Clear PVA or Elmer’s glue into a mixing bowl.

B) Add a drop or two of the food coloring of your choice (too much color can make the slime dark and opaque) and mix.

C) Add a small bit amount of Stay-flo liquid starch and mix. You can notice that the solution is becoming a bit slimy. Keep adding a bit amount of the starch and mix until the slime is formed.(The slime may seem opaque due to the air bubbles formed, but if you let it settle down for a while, then it will become clear).

D) Add some clear beads (glass or plastic)to the slime and play around with it until the beads completely stick into it and create a Crunch-like sound as you play.

3) Floam Slime

Floam slime is a mixture of Floam and slime, where Floam is a play structure that can mould into different shapes. Seems interesting? Well, here is how you can make it!

• Mixing bowl

• Mixing spoon

• Foam bead balls

• Liquid starch

• Elmer’s Glue or PVA glue

• Food coloring of your choice

A) Pour in some Elmer’s or PVA glue into your mixing bowl (you can add as much as you want depending on how much slime you’d like to make).

B) Add some food coloring of your choice into the bowl and mix until the color is visible.

C) Add a small amount of liquid starch and mix until the solution becomes slimy.

D) Add foam balls to the slime and play until the balls are completely adhered into the slime.

4) Butter Slime

One of the hardest recipes of slime and the most complicated to make. Yet totally worth the effort! As the name says, butter slime looks and spreads around like butter and feels extremely smooth to play with.

• Mixing bowl

• Mixing spoon

• Contact lens solution

• Baking Soda

• Elmer’s Glue or PVA glue

• Corn flour

• Shaving cream foam

• Baby oil

• Food coloring (preferably yellow)

A) Add three table spoons of corn flour and three table spoons of PVA or Elmer’s Glue into the mixing bowl.

B) Add three heaped table spoons of shaving cream foam (This might be a bit difficult to measure but try your best to get some accurate measure).

C) Add four pinches of baking soda to the mixture in the bowl.

D) Add the food coloring into the mixture and mix well until it starts to look and feel like cake batter.

E) Add two teaspoons of contact lens solution into the mixture and mix well until the slime is formed.

F) Add half a teaspoon of baby oil to give the slime a buttery structure. And start playing!

5) Iceberg Slime

• Mixing bowl

• Mixing spoon

• Baby powder

• Borax

• Elmer’s glue or PVA glue

• Shaving cream foam

• Hand lotion

• Food Coloring of your choice

A) Empty a whole bottle of Elmer’s or PVA glue into a mixing bowl, and add a whole can of shaving cream foam into it as well.

B) Add three pumps of hand lotion to make your slime silky, and four pumps of baby powder to give it a matte finish.

C) Add some food coloring (preferably blue and green together to make it look like an iceberg) and mix. (The mixing becomes very difficult as the quantity is very huge and there might be even chances that you have to add more food coloring to intensify the mixture color).

D) Add one teaspoon of borax into hot water (separate from the mixing bowl) and mix.

E) Slowly add the borax solution to the slime mixture and mix until the solution becomes slimy. If you let the slime settle down in the fridge or even in a cool area, the top layer hardens for you to break like an iceberg when you are ready to play.
