Later May Be Too Late

I have a confession to make. There was a time when I did not give much thought to disability insurance.

As though it was yesterday, I can recall an insurance agent approaching me. She wanted to discuss a plan that would allow me to continue to support myself and my family should I become disabled due to an accident or an injury. At the time I thought, I'm young, I've never been hospitalized, (other than for childbirth). I've not suffered any serious injury or so much as a lengthy illness. There's a time to make a decision about this later.

I never discussed this with my husband. I planned to think seriously about the subject when it was time. Like, when I was older or when my health started to fail. Beside, I figured, if I was faced with an accident or injury my husband would care for me and my needs.

That's the way it was supposed to work.

I had no idea that an ice covered expressway with fresh snow would play a huge part in testing my plan, (or lack thereof). On our way home from a friend's party one evening the car in the next lane hit a patch of ice and lost control of his car. When our car finally came to a stop we had been hit twice and I could still hear the cars behind us slamming into each other. As far as I know, there were 19 cars and one fatality involved in that accident. Some said we were fortunate that my husband only lost sight in one of his eyes.

For me, one challenge was learning to juggle the task of recovering from a closed head injury while caring for a baby who was only months old. Another challenge was unfortunately trying to stay upbeat for my family in the wake of our financial situation.

My husband and I had never discussed how we would keep our household running if he was unable to work due to illness or injury. We literally watched our financial security fade. We were faced with losing our home and cars. Our savings quickly dwindled down to nothing. There was no money for utilities, monthly expenses, routine financial liabilities and additional expenses. We had to borrow money from family to stay afloat. This was painful for my husband since he was the primary breadwinner.

Due to the added stress we were experiencing, it was difficult for either one of us to concentrate on getting well. Endless doctors' appointments and the mounds of pain medication we had to take intention we could no longer care for our children and had to send them to my Mom out of state.

Although I never thought much about disability insurance before, that experience was a wake-up call for me. We were faced with the realization that we were not too young, too healthy, or too financially secure to protect our most valuable asset: Our ability to earn a living.

According to the Council of Disability Awareness, "… 1 in 4 of today's 20 year-olds will become disabled before they retire." This is a shocking large proportion of people. Just as starting is the 2001 study published in The American Journal of Medicine with a finding that medical problems were involved in 46.2% of bankruptcies. We tend to have insurance for our cars, homes, and even our lives, but most of us fail to insure our paychecks.

The time to evaluate your circumstance is now, while you are able to decide. You can start by asking yourself, the following questions:

How will you pay your bills if you are unable to earn a paycheck and for how long?

Do you have a plan to pay your mortgage or rent while you are recovering?

Do you have a plan that will preserve your independence without burdening others?

Do not wait until it's too late. Carefully examine your personal situation and document your strategy for protecting yourself against financial loss in the event of an injury or illness.

– According to the Council of Disability Awareness, "just 1 in 4 of today's 20 year-olds will become disabled before they retire."

– The American Journal of Medicine says, "Our 2001 study in 5 states found that medical problems contributed to at least 46.2% of all bankruptcies."

Creating An Authority Site With Google AdSense On It

If you’re familiar with Google AdSense and you want to know the best way to start earning money with it, you should know that generating lots of traffic is the first step. After you’ve driven a lot of traffic to your site, you will want to focus on ad placement, and the best areas where you should place your ads on your site.

To keep the traffic going, you will need to create a lot of content for your site. Everyday you should be writing to update your site or blog with new information about your topic. And if you can write a few articles per day, this is even better. It’s pretty easy to write about 1 to 2 articles per day and add them to your site or blog. You just have to make up your mind about it.

The bottom line is that if you want to stay in business for the long haul, you will have to stay on top of your game. But it doesn’t take long to do this everyday. Update your site with new content day after day (even on the weekends). This should take you no more than 20 minutes to do – especially if you’re creating content that is around 300 to 400 words long.

And if you need inspiration about what new to write about, you may want to repurpose your articles. See if you can purchase some article templates that will allow you to add a new style and twist to your articles, so that you can place them on your site, make them original, and get relevant AdSense ads to show up on your site.

Like I said creating a content-rich site is relatively easy. If you want to make some good money with Google AdSense, create an authority site. An authority site is one main, big site where you focus on one topic, and one topic only. There’s no switching around and creating all kinds of different sites with AdSense ads on it.

With an authority site, you can position yourself as an expert in your niche. People will come to love your information, and will visit your site daily. Many will subscribe to your email newsletter and search around on your site to find more of the same good content. And this is definitely what you want to happen.

There is another option outside of the authority site model where people create 1-page “mini sites” that are strictly designed to generate the AdSense click. They have no relevance for the person visiting the site, and people go and create thousands of them. This is similar to the concept of auto blogs (or “spam” blogs).

You don’t want to go down this route. Stick with a proven authority site plan that works for a lot of people, and continue to offer more and more information to your readers.

Soon you will start to see trickles of daily income coming into your AdSense account, and over time, it will just grow larger and larger. But more importantly, you will learn how to market your site online successfully, and can take that knowledge and apply it to another online business venture.

Good luck with earning more money with Google AdSense today.

5 Steps to Crime Prevention at Your Marina

Spending the day or weekend on your boat is one of the pleasures most boaters look forward to all the time. Unfortunately, the marinas where vessels are stored at are just as susceptible to crime as our homes and places of work, if not more so. Criminals prey on two facts. (1) Many boats are left alone for days and weeks at a time and (2) when a boater heads out onto the water, criminals know that they have more than enough time to burglarize their parked car.

With that being said, it becomes important for boat owners to learn some common-sense practices for keeping the property on their boats and in their vehicles as safe as possible. Listed below are five steps that boaters can take to help protect their property from crime.

1. Mark It

This is a proven deterrent and you will have a better chance of having your property returned if it is stolen. Etch or engrave an identification number, such as you vessel ID number, onto all of your valuable items. This will enable authorities to trace lost or stolen items back to your vessel. Also, enroll in a crime prevention program, like Boat Watch USA. It is free, and you receive a Vessel ID decal which includes a warning for all would be perpetrators to avoid your vessel. Place this decal where it can be easily seen from the most common spot your vessel is boarded from. Boat Watch USA also offers smaller Boat Watch USA warning decals to affix prominently to your major equipment.

2. Record It

Secondly, record in detail all of your valuable equipment. Compile a written inventory of your boat, trailer, and all onboard equipment. Boat Watch USA includes with it’s free service a form to list unique details and other special identifying features of your vessel. If you have a trailer, you can include particulars about it too. List all electronics, outboard engines, and other gear by brand name, model and serial number. Be as descriptive as possible for both the police and insurance companies. Again, Boat Watch USA offers an online vessel equipment log where owners can record equipment information and keep it readily available for the law enforcement and insurance companies should they need it.

3. Photograph It

Photograph or video tape the interior and exterior of your vessel, showing all the installed equipment and additional gear stowed aboard. These photographs should show any identifying marks or scratches that can be useful in the recovery efforts of law enforcement. Include photographs of open drawers and lockers with all contents revealed. Date and sign the photographs and add clarifying or identifying messages as necessary. Store these photographs or video tapes in a safe location outside of your boat, such as your home.

4. Secure It

Most thieves are opportunists and seek out the easiest vessels to strike. Purchase and use quality locking devices for your boat to make entry and accessibility as difficult as possible for would be thieves. Also, remove as many items as feasible when you are going to leave your boat unattended. The best way to keep thieves from stealing property from your boat is to not leave it aboard. Remove high risk items like TV’s, radios, and CB’s. If you are not going to remove items, store them out of sight in a securely locked cabinet or locker. Lastly, you may consider having an alarm system installed on your vessel. Care should be taken to select security equipment that is resistant to environmental elements typically found near waterways.

5. Marina Security

Many thieves are successful because they look as if they belong in the area. Become acquainted with your fellow neighbors at the marina. A tactful offer to help assist a stranger to find a person or a boat will signal to thieves that you are looking out for each other and that nobody goes unnoticed. Urge your fellow neighbors to also be observant of strangers in the area and to question their presence as well.

Be sure to always lock your vehicle when parked at a launch site, marina or dock. Remember to keep all windows secured and to remove any valuables from sight. If you are not taking your purse, cell phone, or other property with you, lock it in the trunk while you are gone. Also, to lessen the opportunity a would-be-thief has to break into your vehicle, park it in an open, visible area.

Be mindful and alert of any suspicious vehicles or persons who are lingering in the area. Record license plate numbers and remember physical descriptions of these vehicles and persons you observe loitering in the area.

Remember, a marina with good security equipment and good security practices is a good start. Having marina members who actively carry out these five steps can make the difference between crime prevention and criminal activity.

How to Build Muscle Mass – Top 10

The 5 Golden Rules Of Staying
Injury-Free In The Gym

Listen, if you want to get big, you have to train big.

Entering the gym and simply going through the motions without a sweat just is not going to get the job done. You have to overload those muscles with heavy weight and high intensity if you want to see real results. This is without a doubt the most effective means of stimulating muscular growth.

Muscles grow due to a natural adaptive survival response, and if you do not give them a damn good reason to grow, well, they will not.

While training hard and heavy may be awesome for your muscles, it can be trouble for the health of your joints and connective tissue. This is simply the reality of intense weight training, and while there are no guarantees that you will be able to completely avoid getting injured, you can certainly take specific steps to lessen the chance.

An injury is the absolute last thing you could ever hope for, as it will stop you dead in your muscle-building tracks.

Down below I'm going to outline my "5 golden rules" when it comes to minimizing the risk of injury. If you can honestly say that you implement all 5 of these into your training program, then your risk of getting hurt will be much lower than someone who does not.

1) Always perform a thorough warmup.

A proper warmup is the single best thing you can do to minimize your risk of injury. This simple 15-20 minute process will prepare your mind and body for the hard work to come by increasing blood flow into the surrounding connective tissue and by lubricating your joints. I would recommend that you perform 5 minutes of light cardiovascular exercise before each workout followed by 4-5 warmup sets for your first major exercise of the routine.

2) Always train with proper form.

This should go without saying. Every exercise that you perform in the gym should be done with proper form and technique in order to keep the stress off of your joints. If you start squatting or deadlifting with a rounded back, jerking the weights around in a ballistic manner or performing dangerous exercises you are almost guaranteed to hurt yourself at some point.

3) Always train within your own personal limits.

Weightlifting is a personal battle, and letting your ego take over is almost always a recipe for disaster. It does not matter what the guy next to you is benching and it is completely irrelevant to your training program. You must always use weights that you can handle and control with proper form, and if you start piling on the plates to impress the people around you, you'll be stretching your limits and putting yourself in a very vulnerable position.

4) Always know when to quit.

If you can not complete another rep of an exercise using proper form, the set is over, plain and simple. Put the weight down and rest up for your next set. If you start using huge amounts of momentum and jerky body motions to crank out a couple of extra reps, you'll be on the sidelines before you know it.

5) Never ignore your aches and pains.

When you're motoring along through a training program and are making progress from week to week, the idea of quitting just seems impossible. This can sometimes lead us to ignore those obvious injuries and pretend as if they are not really there as we often "work through" the pain and hope that it magically disappears.

More often than not, it will only get worse. If you feel that something definitely is not right and can sense that you probably should not be training, gGet the problem checked out by a professional and then take the proper measures to heal. While it may hurt your progress in the short term, the overall long-term effect will be a positive one.

You can learn even more details about keeping your joints and connective tissues healthy for years to come by visiting my website using the link below. I'll teach you the specific way to perform a proper weightlifting warmup, which will not only greatly decrease your chances of injury but will also result in mainly instant strength increases for your major exercises …

Developing the Perfect Home Design

When it finally comes down to building your own home one of the most difficult parts you'll ever encounter is actually choosing your home plan. Usually you have all these ideas built up in your head of how you'd like your home to look and be laid out, but now it's getting all those ideas onto paper that could be difficult.

For those beginning the process of their home building plan you'll soon want to consider the actual layout of your lot. This will allow you to have the ability to determine what actual size you can have for your home, meaning you can finally figure out the sizing of all the rooms within the home. You also want to consider how much land you want around your home, such as your backyard and such so you can ensure to leave enough space for all those things you want in your yard.

When you've determined the amount of space you'll have for your home you can now determine the size of foundation you'll need, whether your homes going to be one story, two story, etc. It will depend on the number of buildings of your home for the actual size of your foundation, and your home builder should be able to explain this to you. At this stage you will also want to determine if you'd like to have a basement or not within your home.

Now it is time to get into the design plan for your home. When you choose to go with a rectangular option you will see a drop in pricing as it is easier to build a rectangular home then it is to build a home with many different corners to go around. If you want to be outrageous with your design then do it, but please be aware that this will cost you more and could do a lot of damage on your wallet.

There are many ways that you can cut costs when it comes to designing your home and one of the best ways to do it is keeping things simple. If you know you will not need a basement then do not get a basement, as this can cut thousands of dollars off your home plan. Basements cost a lot of money to build as they take a lot of time to develop, so if you do not need it then do not get it.

One of the best tips ever given by a builder is to leave out all the extra fancy things until later. If there are things you want, but do not know you can afford then do not do it. Usually these are things that can be added onto the home in the future but make sure to keep them on your wish list as they could end up happening as your build progresses, especially if you run into a little extra money on top of your budget. A home plan can be expensive, but it can be budgeted if you take the right steps and avoid having all those unnecessary add-ons. Be wise with your home plan and you could save thousands of dollars.

Learning Martial Arts Online – Real or Get Real?

Here is the bold truth- many martial art schools are mediocre and a few are outright lousy. Worst of all, you need to call all the martial art schools in your area, then setup appointments to visit them, and then try and decipher which program is legitimate.

In addition to that, you have to make sure the hours of training are conducive to your schedule, the drive time to the martial art school is capable, and … most importantly- the crowd in the school are not a bunch of combative thugs with something to prove.

Finding a good school to train in can be a real chore and it's no wonder people say, "I've always wanted to learn martial arts …" The truth is, many people have put off learning martial arts for years, sometimes their whole lives because of the reasons listed above.

Or, maybe you're not interested in the pressure of learning at the rate of everyone else or you can careless about promotion tests. Some of our current students have now switched their training to online so they can learn at their own pace, in their own home, when they want. Now that is freedom!

There is one question I receive quite often- "Can you really learn martial arts online?" I'll tell you this, that question often comes from non-martial artists. Our current students know it's entirely possible to learn online. Let's analyze it:

Online Training Myths

Myth # 1 You will not know that you're making a mistake because there is no live instructor to correct you.

Truth- You'll be assigned an instructor in our Warrior program where you'll have unlimited email support. In addition to that, you'll have the ability to upload your own training videos for your instructor to critique you.

Myth # 2 You need to work with other people to improve your skills?

Truth- Hmmm … I love that one, because it seems so true and makes sense … to some degree. Let me tell you about my training for the US National Taekwondo Championships in 1999.

I trained independently because there was nobody in Idaho that was my caliber. By caliber, I mean elite level of sparring and being a heavy weight. Sure, I had students that were pretty darn good and fast, but still, none of my caliber. I would be liar to say I did not practice sparring with people, because I did. In fact, I spent a couple days at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs training under our US Team.

The point is, I did not have the opportunity to train with people of my caliber, so I developed a system of training for myself- a system for speed & strength development, timing, and technique building. I also studied videos, countless videos. I studied the best fighters in the world. I read books on sport psychology, and speed training.

So how did I do at Nationals. Well, I took the Gold Medal in poomse (forms), out of nearly 20 competitors. It's not what I was there to achieve, but I entered the competition mainly to see if my independent training would payoff- to see if I could dominate the competition with explosive speed, exactness in technique, power, and flexibility. I did.

For sparring … that's the true test. Would my solo training allow me dominate everyone Everyone the way to the medal rounds? The medal round was my goal. My sole purpose was to land the opportunity to tryout for the US Team, and making it to the medal round was the mission.

I knew in my heart, nothing could stop me. With 20+ competitors, I knew very few could have trained as hard as I had. I was looking at the brackets in the warm up area of the Convention Center in Detroit, Michigan. Reading his name near took my breath away- Michael Tang. Michael Tang was a US Team member at the time. I was not worried about that. What I was concerned about was that I was fighting him one fight before the medal round.

The one thing US Team members have over nearly every competitor is international experience. They are used to coping with an incredible amount of stress, either from overseas travel or from fighting in an environment where the foreigners are chanting for you to be slaughtered. The foreigners really enjoy beating the Americans. This is precisely why I studied sport psychology books prior to Nationals.

My first fight was against a gentleman from Mississippi. He was the state champion. It was not my best match since it was my first match and I was trying to relax and fight simultaniously. Nonetheless, I still won the match. In fact, I nearly knocked him out. The tough kid continued to fight and I knew I could win by knockout, but chose to pace myself, since I knew my toughest match has yet to come.

The second fight was against another state champion, but I have since forgotten the state. A much tougher battle, and more active one to say the least. Unfortunately, I hyper extended both ankles during this match by unloading a barrage of kicks. I still won the match … by a fairly large margin. The newer rules of Taekwondo sparring (first to a margin of 7, wins) would have ended the match half way through the first round and would've saved my ankles.

At this point, I'm convinced, and you should be too, that proper independent training is effective.

As I was preparing to fight Michael Tang, we were informed that our match would resume after lunch. Thank god! Both of my ankles needed to be iced and re-wrapped. In addition to that, I was in the wrong frame of mind. All I could think about was the fact that he was a US Team member.

I finished icing my ankles and went to have a light lunch. Something very substantial occurred to me that seemed so basic. If I am going to stand any chance of getting on the US Team, I need to knock off the number one person.

I could not poison my thoughts with the fact that others were lucky enough to not have to fight Michael until the next round (the medal round) or the one after that. After my ankles throbbing, I could not wait to get back to the arena and to step in the ring to have my shot at Michael. I was hungry … hungry for victory.

When I got back to the arena, I had my ankles re -aped and I was feeling great. All I could think about was the referee raising my hand at the end of the match. We entered the ring. Michaels teammates were chanting USA, USA off to the side. The referee welcomed us to the center of the ring … CHUNG (blue)! HONG (red)! Michael extended his hand under the referees ready signal and said "good luck."

There's a different attitude with fighters beyond the 3 matches. An attitude of respect rather than ego. Every fighter knows that if you are in your 3rd match of a single elimination championship, your ability is to be respected.

I opened the match with a huge cut kick. A kick that I developed on purpose, especially for Michael. I was never able to find a video of Michael, but did hear someone say, one time, somewhere, that Michael is an intelligent fighter and likes to study your movements then counter attacks accordingly. The cut kick is a powerful kick. I relate it to a batter ram. It's not a pretty kick, but it sure does get someone stumbling backward.

I did not waste anytime after the referee started us before I unloaded my cut kick. I sent Michael back several feet from this kick. It was the first point of the match, and … the overwhelming adrenaline response I received from this fact merely paralyzed me. I could not attack anymore.

I faked, I switched, I moved around, I did everything but attack. I allowed Michael to study every mechanical element of my movements. When I finally attacked, it was as if Michael had been waiting ever so patently for my technique, and counter attacked perfectly. He scored 2 points instantly, and now I'm down 1.

Michael now has all the cards in his favor. He has no pressure to attack, so he sits back and studies my movements even more. My only chance is to score 2 consecutive points (not likely, at this stage) or hit him once in the head. Michael scrambled from the assault I laid on him, but I was unable to get the 2 point head shot needed to win the match.

I did not win the National Championship in fighting, but I can say that I got our US Team member a run for his money. In fact, I ran into him a year later at the US Open and he approached me to let me know that he still remembers that cut kick. His words were, "Your cut kick felt like a canon!"

As a member, you can watch this fight including all my fights that year that bought me to this dual with Michael Tang. Although, I did not win the National Championship, I learned quite a bit about the effectiveness of a well thought out system for training in martial arts.

Did I bust Myths 1 & 2? You bet I did! Is it possible for anyone to break Myths 1 & 2? I'll leave that for you to decide.

Interior Design And Interior Design Tips

Most interior designers would advise that you decide on a general theme to use throughout your home. That doesn’t mean all rooms will be the same, just the theme would be the same throughout your home. The style one decides on should reflect on the family unit as far as character and style.

Cardiovascular disease is thought to be our number one killer, as just less than one million Americans die from heart disease each year.

Reducing cholesterol, specifically LDL (the "bad cholesterol" which forms plaque in our arteries that can then block blood flow to the brain & heart) can greatly aid one's overall cardiovascular health.

High levels of cholesterol are the result of either overproduction of cholesterol by the liver, or more commonly a diet that includes too many animal products (both dairy and red meat).

So how can one go about lowering cholesterol levels safely?

Let's first deal very briefly with non-dietary factors. These include getting some natural sunshine daily and maintaining a regular schedule of exercise of at least one half hour each day, doing activities such as walking, bike riding or swimming, to aid in strengthening your cardiovascular system. Also, if you are overweight or obese, you must lose those extra pounds. Even losing 10 pounds can result in a definite lowering of your cholesterol. As well, of course, smoking and alcohol consumption should be eliminated or at least minimized as much as possible. With regards to alcohol, men should restrict themselves to two drinks a day, and women just one.

More important varies is adjusting your diet. Make sure you drink a minimum of six glasses of water each day. Reduce the quantity of animal and dairy foods you eat on a regular basis to no more than 10% of your calorie intake. Try to eat lean cuts of meat and skim milk. Some types of fish, including tuna, halibut and cod, contain a lot less cholesterol than red meat. Other fish products including salmon and mackerel have high levels of beneficial acids that can aid your cardiovascular function. Try to eat more foods containing dietary fiber, as well as fruits and vegetables (fresh) and stay away from hydrogenated oils and fried foods.

Let's highlight some of the foods that may help alleviate high cholesterol levels. The fiber found in whole grains can aid in preventing the cholesterol in our foods from entering into our bloodstream. Select pastas and bread made from whole grains, and eat brown rather than white rice. Try to eat more soy, sprouts, seaweed and nuts too.

Vitamins B6, C and E have been cited as helpful. Some other natural supplements that can aid in reducing cholesterol levels include garlic (raw), chromium, grape seed extract, soy, carnitine and pantothine. Some of these actually increase the amount of HDL (good cholesterol), which has a positive effect. Both plant sterols and Omega-3 fatty acids are also contributors to the health of your heart. Blueberries, too, are very useful in decreasing cholesterol. You should also make it a habit to drink every morning a glass of your favorite fruit juice with spirulina and soy protein mixed in.

While following the above guidelines on a daily basis should assist most people to lower their cholesterol to normal levels, some people may still need either a medication or a natural supplement. You should meet with your medical advisor if your high cholesterol levels are not being helped by dietary means and daily exercise.

How to Build Your Own Home – Lesson 3 – Your Plans – Draftsman/ Designer Vs Architect

1. The Draftsman/Designer

Draftsman/Designer’s have expertise with design of interiors, carpeting, furniture, paint, etc., in actuality; draftsmen follow the directions of an architect, engineer or designer to make (vs. create) the plans. They are not licensed, as an architect is, to stamp plans in order to receive city building permits – More on this later.

If you choose to hire a draftsman/designer, be sure to find one that has a good working knowledge of building. I knew a draftsman/designer that designed beautiful country homes but you could tell this designer was relatively new to the industry because some of her designs could not be built the way they were drawn. This is because designers often do not understand how the construction process works. This is a key difference between draftsman/designers and architects. Choose someone that has had experience creating drawings that have been successfully built from by homebuilders, and who comes highly recommended.

Another source for a qualified draftsman/designer is the American Institute of Building Design. You can locate member in your area by visiting their web site. If you see a home that you like, check with the owner to see if they know who designed it. If the home is fairly new, you could go to the building department and possibly see the plans on file, you can acquire the name of the designer from those plans.

2. The Architect

Architects have expertise in design but are especially helpful because of their knowledge of technology and structural aspects of how to put together a building. He or she has gone to school a long time and are licensed professionals who are qualified to offer clients a wide range of services. Working with an architect can give you someone to lean on from start to finish. He/she can help you with your site and landscape plans. He/she can help you select colors, furnishings, etc. as well. The architect can offer several other valuable services to help your construction plan go smoothly. For example, he/she can visit the site, monitoring and observing construction. The architect can be a valuable asset in reviewing contracts and helping you ultimately select a reputable contractor or subcontractor.

Another service the architect can provide is to walk through your plans with the city/county to expedite getting the necessary permits.

Keep in mind that an architect’s fees are going to be higher than those of a draftsman/designer, which makes sense considering all of the additional services and safeguards that you’ll get the benefit of. A good architect can charge anywhere from 7% to 10% of the final cost, or more. Fees may be negotiable, though. For example, I hire very qualified architects in the Atlanta area for less than a third of those figures, which, by the way, is a very cheap price to pay for someone that qualified to create your house, plans and see the job through to completion.

As always, when hiring someone, it is best to discuss the exact services that the architect will provide under the contract, so you know what services to expect for the fee you will be paying. Also, ask for references and examples of his/her work. Not all architects are wonderful artists. Perhaps their style does not mesh with our style, either. If you want an original work of art, a thing of beauty – just because you’ve gone to the expense of an architect does not mean you automatically will have hired an artist. I feel only one in three architects are true artist. For that reason, I have sometimes hired an artistic designer to design a home of beauty, and then I would hire an architect to do the working drawings.

Note: In many areas, you do not have to have an architectural stamp on a set of residential drawings. You could draw them yourself. I’ve seen some builders draw a sketch on a piece of scratch paper, hand it to the framing carpenter and say, “Make it look like the third house on the left!” Find out if you will need stamped drawings from your local government.

In many areas you could build a duplex [two unit building] or a triplex [three unit building] without an architectural stamp on the drawings. However, if you build four units or more, which in many areas is considered multi-family, or if you build commercial or industrial, you would be required to have an architectural stamp or a professional engineer’s stamp on the plans.

If you build anything unusual like a “foam home,” the only way you may be able to pass the local codes and inspections would be to have an architectural stamp or a professional engineer’s stamp on those unusual plans. Having a stamp is no guarantee, because the local government reviews everything and you don’t know what is going to pass.

Awareness Check Point – Where Do You Live?

Envision this: Peace, wellness, freedom, trust, reception, gratitude, abundance, joy, blessings, energy, confidence, authenticity, giving, allowing, connection, passion, openness, creativity, bliss, love, courage, prosperity, self acceptance.
(Feels pretty good, yes?)

Now go here: (but not for long) Worry, doubt, fear, angst, hopelessness, blame, scarcity, grasping, anxiety, ego, sickness, victim hood, addiction, obsession, panic, resentment, grief, revenge, depression, lack , shame, suffering, despair.

(A definite case of the icky icks and you now need a shower.)

Did you feel the vast contrast of both of those places? All right, so now it's truth time. Which of these places do you hang out in the most? If you do not live in the best feeling places often, then why not? What's stopping you from doing so? If you're interested in reconnecting to the abundant wellspring of power that lies inside, then this is your Divine appointment to get started. The life you've been craving is patiently waiting for you to say Yes let's venture on the light already!

Take a minute and ask yourself if you think it's really possible to take up a permanent … or at least a consistent … residence at this Divine Address of feeling good. Underneath all of the repetitive ego banter, does your heart KNOW that you deserve to feel good, and often, at that? A simple request … be gentle with yourself and your findings and know that you are expanding your consciousness in this very moment. Know that your answers are completely INFORMATION. All of this inquiry is part of your shift that's happening right now.

Feeling good IS your natural state and your glorious birthright! Notice if the thought of that TRUTH scares you or excites you. You are safe to delve deep here. The objective here is to determine what areas you take up residence in the most, so you can now declare where you'd like to end up. You have to know where you are before you map out the journey towards your final destination, do not you? Just ask any GPS. The good news is that you have been directed to this point, and you can breathe easy now and know you are well on your vibrant way.

If you are suspecting or even knowing that your daily pattern is to act from the not so positive emotions, relax. This is not a time for beating yourself up. Resist going there and feeding that pattern. If you do vibrate in these darker places often, it's probably safe to say that you are most likely curious about how to live in the better feeling places.

Do you already live your life from the higher spectrum of emotions? If so, you are our inspiration and our role models and we need you. We bless you, revere you and desire to learn from your being! Reverse The Wrinkling Process With These Simple Steps

Are you worried because of the wrinkling skin on your hands, face and rest of the body? Do you spend money on creams and lotions that claim to reverse wrinkles but do not deliver what they promise?

If yes, then, this is the article for you, in this article, I have shared some of basic life style changes, which are simple yet effective, which can reverse the wrinkling process of the skin.

Wrinkling of skin is a natural process and it must be treated by natural means. You must stay away from unnatural remedies such as Botox Shots, Chemical Peeling, Laser Skin Treatments and Artificial creams and lotions. Such treatments are not at all good for the skin. Instead, use the natural remedies.

Here are the natural steps that you can embrace in your life and get a smooth and soft skin.

1 – Exercise daily
This may sound totally unrelated to skin but according to experts, exercising releases certain hormones in the body, which are beneficial for the skin. It also helps the body to sweat profusely and therefore help in opening the pores of the skin. This helps in decreasing the black heads and acne.

2 – Drink Water
Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water every day. It keeps the moisture intact in the body and helps in smoothing the skin. The more fluid you take the better it is for the tone of your skin.

3 – Avoid junk food
Junk food is the largest enemy of healthy skin. Foods like Pizzas, Burgers, Fries and Areated Drinks are a big no for healthy skin. They make skin dull and oily. Oily skin links more dirt and grime and leads to acne and black heads on the skin.

4 – Eat healthy food
Green leafy vegetables like Spinach, Broccoli are good for skin. Tomatoes, Berries, Fruits like Oranges, Apples, and Papaya are good anti-oxidants and help in reducing the free radical activity in the skin.

Make no mistake about it – only a healthy body can have a healthy skin. Ask any physician, dietician or expert, all of them are unanimous on all the four points that we discussed above.

The action is now on you, whether to embrace the steps that we discussed and be a step closer to the sexy and smooth skin or take no action and deal with the wrinkling skin the way you have been doing so far.

The choice is yours, until now you have not achieved any result. With the four steps I shared with you, I can tell you that wrinkling of skin will be a thing of past for you. So get up and take action now.

Migraine Headache Symptoms and Causes – What Are They?

When describing migraine symptoms and causes, it first helps to understand what is a migraine. A migraine is not just an ordinary headache, as those who suffer from it will know only too well. A migraine headache can be severe and persistent and is accompanied by a wide range of other symptoms.

• Artery Constriction

Migraines are the result of a constriction of the arteries in the brain, which reduces blood flow to the brain. This is followed by dilation or widening of these arteries. Hence the often unique throbbing sensation experienced with a migraine headache.

• Symptoms Can Vary

Migraine symptoms vary greatly from one person to another. About one in every five migraine sufferers will have what is called a classical migraine. Associated with a classical migraine is a visual disturbance known as an aura. This is flashing light in front of the eye preceding a migraine. This can be in conjunction with pins and needles and an altered sense of smell and taste.

Most patients commonly see zigzag patterns of brightly colored lights flashing or even a blind spot in the form of a hole, usually in one eye only. This aura can last from about 10 to 30 minutes. This is usually followed by the headache, but not always as some migraine sufferers only experience the aura. This is known as an ocular migraine.

In most cases the main migraine symptom is a moderate to severe headache. This is usually confined to one side of the head and can alternate from one side to the other. It is often a throbbing or pulsating headache and will get worse with physical activity. Often there is pain behind the eyes, which can be relieved with pain killers or a cold compress.

Women vs. Men

Women are more likely to suffer from migraines than men. This is because of regular hormonal changes. Women can get migraines just before or after their menstrual period.

More Symptoms

As well as migraine symptoms of the head, a migraine sufferer may experience a variety of other symptoms. These include:

• the feeling of nausea,

• vomiting,

• diarrhea

• very cold hands and feet.

• If the patient is having a visual disturbance, feelings of dizziness and disorientation can occur.

Be Cautious

One very disturbing migraine symptom is that of temporary paralysis on one side of the body. This is known as a hemipleic migraine and can be very frightening if experienced for the first time. As this can mimic the signs of a stroke it is always important to have these sort of migraine symptoms checked out by your doctor to confirm that it is a migraine.

• Light and Sound Sensitivity

Migraine sufferers are generally very sensitive to light and sound during an attack. This is why it is well known that to lessen the effects and aid recovery, being in a darkened, quiet room is very beneficial.

For some people the early warning signs that a migraine is imminent can be easily missed. Migraine symptoms can occur well in advance of an attack. Feelings of elation or intense energy, cravings for sweets, thirst, drowsiness, irritability or depression, are all early warning migraine symptoms.

• Triggers to Watch For

Migraines can be triggered by a wide variety of causes, such as, certain foods, stress and tension, dehydration, hormonal fluctuations, to name a few. It is important that if you are a migraine sufferer that you try to identify the triggers to your migraine and try to avoid them where possible.

* Keep a Diary

Migraines often go undiagnosed and untreated. If you experience migraine symptoms it is well worth keeping a diary or record of your attacks. Try to find what if anything is the trigger to your migraine attack. Migraines although common can be very disruptive to daily life. There are now numerous treatments available, either home remedies, over-the-counter or from your doctor to help relieve migraine symptoms.

Can Light Really Affect My Wine?

The short answer is that light can definitely affect wine, but we need to take a closer look at the physics and chemistry of it all to understand why and how in what is called light-strike reactions, which can impart off-odors to wine, what the French call goût de lumière.

Wine is sensitive to the damaging rays of light, particularly ultraviolet (UV) rays from sunlight and fluorescent lighting; that’s why wine (and beer) is packaged in dark bottles-the best example is Port in those familiar, dark, opaque bottles. Wines packaged in clear glass bottles are meant for quick consumption and should be stored in carton boxes until such a time.

All forms of radiation, including visible light ultraviolet (UV) rays and X-rays, have energy that is directly proportional to their frequencies or inversely proportional to their wavelengths-that is, high-frequency waves have short wavelengths, and vice versa. And the greater the energy, the greater the catalytic effect of chemical reactions in wine.

Of concern in wine are visible light and the sun’s UVA rays-yes, UVA rays because research has proven that even a short exposure of wine to sun (UVB and UVC are absorbed by the atmosphere), in the order of hours, can have detrimental effects. That’s because UVA rays lie in the 315-400 nanometer (nm) range of the electromagnetic spectrum and therefore has more energy than visible light, which lies in the 400-700 nm range.

Glass acts as a filter, but clear glass offers no protection against UVA and visible light. Green glass offers some protection, but only half as good as amber; dark-amber glass offers almost complete protection. So why is so much wine, particularly many of the ultra-premium wines of the world, packaged in green glass? This is likely for historical reasons when making green-colored glass was easiest and the effect of radiation on wine was unknown.

But glass is only half the story. We must now consider the optical properties of wine to then determine how radiation effects any chemical reaction.

Research has shown that wavelengths in the 375-440 nm range-that is, the high end of the UVA range and the blue (low) end of the visible light range-are most damaging to wine. The amount of radiation absorbed by wine in this range is directly proportional to opacity; therefore, red wine absorbs the most, and is most affected, while white wine absorbs the least-rosé wine is in the middle. As such, for marketing purpose where displaying color is important, white wine can be stored in clear glass, although not for extended periods of time; that’s why premium whites, such as age-worthy Chablis wines come in dead-leaf-colored glass, a golden-yellow color that provides better protection than green.

Opaque, deeply colored, rich reds absorb almost all radiation; however, these have the highest concentration of effect-inhibiting tannins, which provide protection. But if the concentration is low or the extent of exposure is long, unpleasant and off-putting aromas and flavors can develop. Specifically, red wine has sulfur-containing amino acids, namely, containing methionine and cysteine, which have a thiol (sulfur-hydrogen) side chain in their structures. These then react with naturally occurring vitamins, such as riboflavin (vitamin B2) and pantothenic acid (vitamin B5)-water-soluble vitamins that are easily destroyed by heat, oxygen and, that’s right, UV light. The products of this reaction are sulfur compounds such as hydrogen sulfide, dimethyl sulfide (DMS), and dimethyl disulfide (DMDS), responsible for imparting a range of foul smells from rotten eggs to cabbage and wet dog.

Interesting science.

And now I’m left to wonder if my precious magnum of 1991 Château d’Yquem, in a clear-glass bottle, which I bought for my son born that same year, was affected by X-rays on its travel from the U.S. It was pre-9/11, however, the unyielding airport security guard simply couldn’t be convinced not to X-ray my precious bottle. I guess he was not a fine-wine aficionado.
