1. Get at least three estimates from three different painters. When you meet with the painters representative let them know that other painters are bidding on the job also. This will help you to get a better price because they know that they have competition for the job.
2. Whoever you chose make it clear to them that you will only pay them once a week (Thursday or Friday) for the work done. Some painters try to use customers as their own personal cash machine. Remember it comes out your pocket once a week (Thursday or Friday) and that is it.
3. Purchase all the supplies needed for the job yourself and you will save money. You or a family member can accompany the painters to pick up supplies. If you decide to go it along HOME DEPOT is a great place to get supplies at a good price. Just ask the painters for their list of supplies needed for the job.
4. Deadline must be met or their can be penalies. If they finish on time or ahead of schedule you can offer a bonus. Placing penalties and bonuses in dealing with painters give you another tool to use to make a fair contract.
5. Put everything in writing this way Everyone knows what is expected of them. They are a lot of great painting companies to chose from. They will not have a problem with putting things into writing and anyone who does DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM.
