Your not even related to any F1 crew. That was my question since I first attended my first Formula 1 race.So what did I do to tackle this problem? Tips 1 – Identify your target.

Know the drivers family members, gf’s, race engineers,technical crew,team directors, owners and entire crew if possible. It’s always good to know who is who. Reason? not many people know them, so +1 point as competition to take photos with them are less. You can even ask them were and when the actual F1 drivers will arrive at the circuit. Do not focus on only 1 famous F1 driver. You might not know that a young rookie would be famous one day. My F1 circle of friends took photos with Sebastian Vettel when he was still the 3rd driver for BMW Sauber. Imagine him now and you know what I mean. So the keyword here would be identify and do not be picky.

Tips 2 – Always bring a marker pen + merchandise

Bring stuff for autograph in your backpack at all times during Grand Prix weekend. You will never know who you bump into. A friend of mine bumped in Sebastian Vettel in a local Puma store and there was no publicity on that!

Tips 3 – Identify and hangout at the drivers/crew Hotel.

How? – you need to be good to the hotel personals before the F1. You can even go and ask the receptionist and pretend as if you are going to stay at the hotel. It may not be so ethical but the important thing is it’s legal. You will be surprised on how easy to get some drivers photo’s or even autographs. You can also check your local forums and ask around where the drivers are staying. Someone out there might know!

Tips 4 – Wait in front of the paddock access gate.

Some circuits, drivers walk to the paddock. Example(Singapore GP). This is a great opportunity to get them to take a photo or sign autographs.

Tips 5 – If the paddock lane is open, get your way in front of the garage.

On race day, normally teams who win P1 will have a team photo session. Smallers teams will celebrate P2 and P3. But you will never know, so make sure you wonder around the teams who made it to the podiums. I’ve personally took pictures of Ferrari, McLaren Mercedes 09, and RedBull team photo’s. The drivers were so near to me and I manage to take pictures with them as well! Best time is after race when the teams are packing but you must be sensitive enough, some teams who didnt do well might ignore you but don’t stop and just go to next garages/teams.

Tips 6 – Wonder at your local airport the day after the F1 race finishes.

You will be amazed on how little supporters are at airports! You will never know who you might bump into. Seriously I’m talking of experience. Some friends and me have meet Fernando Alonso at Changi Airport once.

How To Make A Form For Making Concrete Bricks

It's very easy to make your own concrete bricks, pavers or stepping stones. One item you will need is a form in which to cast your project. You may need more than one and you may need them in different sizes.

Let's use a patio paver for an example. Let's say your patio design requires cement stones that are 8 x 8 and 8 x 16. Here's how you would go about making these forms very easily.

Buy some cheap furring strips at your home center. These are eight feet long and 2.5 inches wide. Also buy some 2 x 2. It's also eight feet long. Get some coarse-threaded screws 1.5 inches long.

From this stock you'll cut two pieces eight inches long and two pieces 20 inches long for each form you want to make. You will also cut four pieces of 2 x 2 that are 2 inches long. The only measurement that has to be fairly accurate is when you cut the eight inch pieces. The rest can be approximate.

Put two of the eight inch pieces together back to back. Put two 2 x 2's at each end so it looks like a capital I. Now you know where the 2 x 2's go, take one eight inch piece and put it on its end. Hold the 2×2 in the place you just had it while you pre-drill two holes and attach the screws. You want the edge of the 2 x 2 and the end of the eight inch piece to be flush. Assemble the other three ends the same way.

Put the assembled pieces back to back again in a capital I. Spread them apart until you have a measure of 16 inches between them. Now screw the 20 inch long pieces on with one screw in the middle of the 2 x 2 so you miss the screws you have already put into it.

That's all you need to make your 8 x 16 forms. When you want to use the 8 x 8 forms, just unscrew the 20 inch side pieces and measure your 8 inch pieces to be 8 inches apart. Pre-drill a hole and screw them to the 2 x 2's as before.

If you decide you want an 8 x 4, you just slide the eight inch pieces to that measure. You could use this form for any 8 by "X" size brick from one inch to 16 inches.

What about the thickness? What if you do not want cement bricks that are 2.5 inches thick? There are two ways to handle this.

One way is to only fill the forms to the depth that you want your brick to be thick. You could make a sight line on the wood to know when you've hit the right depth. If your bricks turn out to be of varying thickness, do not worry. You can compensate when you lay them.

The second way is to trim the wood to the proper width on a table saw. If you have a table saw, you can use any wood you can find, even boards from old pallets will be fine, and save the expense of buying the furring strips.

Elkins became the Western Maryland Railway's southern hub, its Thomas Subdivision connecting with its main line at Maryland Junction, south of Cumberland.

Although its service had been consistently ranked as fast, efficient, and of significant quality, it significantly competed with the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, but was fraught with several obstacles, including a proliferation of costly, high-maintenance tunnels and bridges; use of a single, as opposed to the B & O's double, main line track; and service to only two major cities-namely, Baltimore and Cumberland.

The Baltimore and Ohio, having already established an affiliation with the Chesapeake and Ohio in 1962, petitioned the Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC) to gain control of the Western Maryland two years later, which it granted, but the line had continued to operate independently until 1972, at which time all three rail companies were merged into the Chessie System. Further amalgamated with the Seaboard Coast Line and The Family Line ten years later, it briefly operated the Seaboard System, but was remorphized into the CSX Corporation, whose railroad division was designated "CSX Transportation," in 1987. The town of Elkins, which growth had peaked in 1920, began a resource depletion-sparked decline and progressive rail service reduction until the tracks witnessed their last operation in 1959, thereafter lying barren and unused for some four decades.

In 1997, the Interstate Commerce Commission granted CSX Transportation permission to abandon the track it owned, but no longer used for coal carriage, below Elkins, which was subdivided into the still-active Elkins-Tygart Junction portion and the inactive Elkins-Bergoo section, provided that the West Virginia State Rail Authority could acquire both for a $ 6 million fee.

The line, encompassing some 140 miles of Elkins Division track and managed by the West Virginia Central Railroad, is now operated by the Durbin and Greenbrier Valley Railroad, a short-line owned by John and Kathy Smith. The Elkins depot once again serves as a railroad departure point and the town is once again the shopping, dining, hotel, and transportation hub of the east Central Appalachian Mountains-but now for tourists. A piercing whistle warned of the New Tygart Flyer's imminent departure on that late-May day.

Nudged by the two diesel engines in pusher-mode, the train inched rearward as the car couplings accordioned into each other. Plying the tracks of the former Cheat Subdivision, which is really curved to the right, it trundled over the rust-colored, girder-resembling bridge and the green reflective surface of the river, the individual structures of Elkin's historic district incorporating into motion, and parallel several stationary coal cars until it briefly suspended its own travel.

The 1922-era, deluxe Pullman Palace parlor car in which I rode, the most luxurious of the train's coaches, featured a wooden bar and pantry; individual tables and black vinyl chairs; wooden sidewall paneling; laced window curtains; ceiling fans; and red, floral-patterned carpeting. A buffet lunch was served in the standard cars, but the parlor car offered more formal, menu and table service, and included a turkey, lettuce, and tomato croissant; a tri-color pasta salad; potato chips; apple pie a la mode; and iced tea. Catering had been provided by the Railyard Restaurant located in the historic Elkins Rileyard, but entrees were made on board.

Cheat Mountain, draped in multiple shades of green, majesticly rose in front of the locomotives. Curving over and between sand-colored boulders, the river descended under the trestle in an inverted s-pattern.

The screeching, snaking chain of steel cars, imitating their life-providing, parental engines, somehow appeared infinitesimal amidst the mountains, progressing like a thread through the eye of a needle, over a path veritably swallowed by the tree-carpeted peaks towering above them . Decelerating to a crawl at 1230 and paralleling the 4,200-foot track siding at milepost 42.6, the New Tygart Flyer arrested its motion, the two diesel engines disconnecting from the parlor car and rounding the train to reattach themselves as pushers.

The parlor car itself, no longer obstructed by the locomotives, now became the lead coach, negotiating the high road bed which gravel steeply angled downward. A final screech, replaced by a thunderous roar only nature could ironically have made, indicated arrival at milepost 50.6 and the High Falls of Cheat, the New Tygart Flyer's terminus, before it would later recommence its return journey. Pouring, like a Herculean-sized faucet of white, unharnassed energy, the 18-foot-high, 150-foot-wide, horseshoe-shaped waterfall streamed over the flat step of rock to the collecting pool below it and thethen into the Shavers Fork of the Cheat River.

The covered, wooden platform, which was barely long enough to stretch between a few seat rows of a single coach, somehow represented a link with humanity, while the track curving at 33 degrees toward the green confines of the isolating forest served as the path to that link. The air transported an inexpensive spray of photographed vegetation and the sound waves of the now-fault rushing water. The gray parlor car, currently considered the last in the chain, was visible to the left and represented the means by which humanity link was transported, a lifeline forged once per day during the summer and only in one's imagination during the winter.

The similarities were many at this remote, isolated, end-of-the-world location. The track formed a path to it. The river formed a path to it. The track transported life. The river transported life. The track paralleled and reflected the river, as if there were two parallel, but very close, worlds of different properties and forms. The river continued its journey. And, with a brief lurch as the car couplings tightened, so, too, did the train. Only one location could represent both their destinies-their origins.

How Consultants Overcharge Their Clients

Consultants' 'Profit enhancers'

When an organization hires management or IT consultants, line managers must ensure that the consultants deliver the results promised. In this article, I summarize six techniques used by consultancies to maximize their own profitability. Some of these are just savvy business, some are dishonest, some are fraudulent – all are widespread throughout the consulting industry. By making organizations aware of these practices, I hope they will be better armed as they pay out their consultants' usually generous fees and expenses.

1. Excessive profitability
A junior consultant will typically be paid around £ 30,000 ($ 45,000) a year. So with social and other costs, the consultancy may be paying around £ 1,000 per week. But they will usually be charged out at £ 7,000 + ($ 10,000 +) per week to private sector clients – for larger public sector projects some consultancies will go down to £ 5,000 + ($ 7,500) per week. A more experienced consultant may cost the consultancy £ 2,000 ($ 3,000) per week, but can be bored at £ 12,000 + ($ 15,000 +) per week. So while many manufacturing businesses make gross margins of around 80% and retailers are at about 100%, management consultancies generally target gross margins of 500% to 800% – a rather striking and intense difference from the margins any of our clients would ever make. Surprisingly, very few clients do the simple mathematics and ask why they should be paying over £ 300,000 ($ 450,000) a year for an inexperienced junior consultant who is probably being paid just over a tenth of that.

2. Retaining travel expenses rebates
Last year three consultations agreed to pay a former client around $ 100m compensation, when they were sued for "unjustly enriching them at the expense of their clients The lawsuit was that for a decade the three firms worked with outside suppliers such as airline firms and travel agencies to obtain rebates of up to 40% on airfare and other costs that were not passed along to clients. 4. Overcharging for overhead
In many consultancies, clients pay for fictitious overhead costs. At one major consultancy an extra 10% was automatically added to consultancy fees supposedly to cover overhead costs. Yet the London office, for example, had about three hundred consultants and around fifty administrative support staff – secretaries, receptionists, human resources, bean counters, marketing support, resource managers, trainers, information center researchers and document production. Yet, with the 10% add-on, our clients were being charged for the equivalent of about three hundred administrative staff – hence the salaries of up to two hundred and fifty support staff were not being absent, as the staff simply did not exist.

5. Relocation staff
Many management consultancies are international and move their staff around the world at their clients' expense. On £ 2.3 million ($ 4m) project I helped sell in Britain to a regional health authority, the consultancy did not have sufficient UK based staff. As our CEO wrote in an internal memo, "the project took place at a time when we were still heavily supported by US expats.

So our NHS client had to pay thousands of pounds a week extra for these imported consultants in what a consequent official investigation described as "a financial fiasco."

6. Cheating on flat rate expenses
Frequently consultancies will agree with the client that expenses will be around, for example, 12% of fees. Each week the client will be billed for this 12%, then at the end of the project there will be a reconciliation between the 12% paid by the client and the actual expenses incurred.

On a project for a leading manufacturer of military aircraft, missile systems and satellites, we had agreed 12% but were actually only running at about 7%. The account vice president informed the rest of the consultancy that he had room to soak up expenses both from other projects and from our head office, rather than paying money back to the client.

Very often, clients would audit our expenses. If they found some real horrors, we'd just say there had been an administrative error and refund the minimum necessary to keep the client happy.

Surfboards and life preservers have also been manufactured from balsa wood.

Crafters and hobbyists will find balsa very easy to cut and carve, making it ideal for a multitude of projects. It can also be painted or stained any color the hobbyist desires. Its greatest value for hobbyists is unduly in the construction of model airplanes. Free flight, control line, and radio control aircraft are all made primarily from balsa wood. Other uses for this versatile wood include model boat building and dollhouse construction, as well as many other craft projects. Model railroaders can use balsa for scratch-building houses and other structures, bridges, and structural support for scenery.

Basswood, or linden, is another wood crafters and hobbyists find very useful. This North American wood is grown primarily in northern Michigan and Wisconsin. Basswood's hobby uses mirror those of balsa, but its heavier weight limits its use in building model airplanes.
