Operating System Options and Installation Methods

An OS is installed on the computers' hard disk, inside an area called hard disk partition. There are several ways for installing a new operating system. The installation method is based on the system hardware and end-user requirements. Typically, you have four basic options for the installation of a new operating system:

Clean Installation

We can perform a clean installation on a new computer or in those cases where there is no upgrade path between the current operating system and the new one. This type of installation deletes all data on the hard disks partition where the current operating system is installed. A new PC requires, of course a clean installation. You can also do a clean install when the current operating system installation has corrupted files or does not work properly.

Upgrade Installation

Sometimes, it is also possible to perform an upgrade. When you perform an upgrade, OS configuration settings, installed programs and data are preserved. With this installation you have nothing to worry about, because you will not lose any personal data. You will just replace the old operating system files with the new, upgraded files. However, keep in mind that after the upgrade the applications and drivers that are incompatible with the new OS will not work as expected.

Multi-boot Installation

Another option is to install multiple operating systems on a single computer. You can install each OS inside a different disk partition and this way every OS will have its own files and configuration settings. On multi-boot installations, the users see a menu when they open their computers and they have to select the desired OS. Of course, only one operating system can run at a time.

Virtualization

This is relative new technique that is often used on servers. With virtualization we can run numerous copies of an operating system on a single set of hardware and create this way some virtual machines. Every single virtual machine works like a separate computer. This technology makes a single physical hardware resource to appear like multiple logical resources.

Before starting any operating system installation you have to make sure that all the hardware is certified to work with the new operating system. Also confirm that the hardware resources meet the minimum installation requirements. Moreover, when you perform an upgrade it is a very good practice to perform a virus scan before starting the installation and a complete full backup of all your personal data.

One method that helps you protect your data is this: Create multiple partitions on the hard disk and install a different OS on each partition. Then copy all your data inside an empty partition that does not contain an OS. This way you can upgrade the operating system without the risk of losing any data. Backup and recovery of data files is also easier with this design.

It is also important to decide the type of file system to use. The file system controls how the OS stores and tracks the files. There are several different file systems available. The most well-known are: FAT 32, NTFS, HPFS, ext2 and ext3. Every operating system is designed to use one or more of these file systems. There are advantages and disadvantages on every file system. Careful consideration should be made to the type of file systems supported by the selected OS and the benefits of each.

You can find several programs to modify the partitioning structure and file system of a hard drive after installation, but it is better to avoid them if possible. When modifying either the file system or partition structure on a hard drive, data loss may result. Careful planning can help preserve the integrity of the data.

The Many Uses of a Biochemistry Analyser

A biochemistry analyser is a term which can refer to any number of different instruments used to analyze and measure the characteristics of various samples from biological sources. All types of biochemistry analyser are commonly used in life sciences laboratories and medical settings, where they provide data which is essential for a wide range of research, diagnostic and even product development applications (such as in the pharmaceutical industry).

The study of the chemical processes which go on inside of living organisms encompasses a wide range of different disciplines and an even wider range of uses, all of which fall under the broader umbrella of biochemistry. Among the most common uses for a biochemistry analyzer are to determine the structure and function of biomolecules including nucleic acids, lipids, proteins and enzymes.

It is in fact in the study of the chemistry of reactions catalyzed by enzymes in which a biochemistry analyser is particularly useful. These applications include applications involving study of genetics, protein synthesis, metabolism on the cellular level, signal transduction and other biochemistry applications with a bearing on the development of new and improved medical care and pharmaceuticals to treat diseases with a genetic component.

Automation has made changes in the way that many laboratory work is carried out, allowing for many traditionally time consuming tasks to be streamlined to permit higher throughput. There are now a variety of different automated biochemistry analyzer instruments which are available. These instruments are designed for a wide range of different applications in the life sciences laboratory or for diagnostic purposes in medical settings. These automated biochemistry analyser devices can measure the concentration and/or determine the characteristics of specific substances in a sample very quickly and with a minimal amount of operator intervention.

With an automated analyzer, there are usually dedicated autosamplers in use along with the instrument or in many cases, even an integrated autosampler. These further simplify the task of biochemistry analysis and since the safety of laboratory personnel when working with biological samples is often a concern, also make the modern, automated biochemistry analyzer much easier and safer to use.

In larger medical laboratories, such as those at hospitals, there are dedicated biochemistry analyser systems in use, often multiple ones designed to perform different common tests needed at healthcare facilities. These often include tests for levels of albumin, glucose, enzymes and creatine levels in the blood or serum. These tests may be performed by measuring conductivity, colorimetry, turbidity and any number of other methods.

There are also many other specialized types of biochemistry analyzer used in laboratories and clinics. Laboratories which perform immunology applications in particular use analyzers in immunoassays as they look for antibody-antigen reactions in biological samples. Other specialized types of biochemistry analyser include those designed for the measurement of osmolarity and osmolality, DNA /RNA detection and labeling and almost too many other important medical research, life sciences and drug development applications to list. Everywhere that the qualitative or quantitative analysis of biomolecules in samples from living organisms is critical, you will always find some sort of biochemistry analyzer at use as an indispensable tool to laboratory personnel.

Competitor Analysis – A Graphic Design Perspective

You probably already know all about SWOT analysis. You might even have your oppositions target demographics, market share and sales figures on hand. But have you ever applied the same type of stringent methodology to analysing your competitors’ visual presence in the marketplace? A graphic design audit is a fantastic and relatively easy way to get a clear picture of how your competitors are perceived, what key messages they are communicating and how you look when placed alongside them. It’s also a valuable exercise that informs you about the type of communication your customers are receiving on a regular basis from your key competitors.

So how do you do it?

The first step to a graphic design audit is to compile every piece of sales and marketing collateral you can find from the competition. This includes trawling through their website and taking screen grabs of key pages, subscribing to their mailing lists, getting your hands on their brochures, purchasing their products so you can have a look at packaging etc. etc.

According to Peter L. Phillips author of “Creating the Perfect Design Brief – How to Manage Design for Strategic Advantage”, one of the best, least expensive and fastest methods is to attend all industry trade shows. There is nothing illegal, unprofessional or immoral about this practice. Business is merely a game we are playing to win after all!

Mr Phillips also suggests using your sales force members to find out what the competition are up to.

As they come into direct contact with customers every day, they can often pick up competitive literature from the customer. They only need to know what you need and of course why you need it.

So once you have compiled the information, what do you do with it?

The best way to start is by putting your competitors’ information up on the wall and analysing them one by one. Invite as many people as possible from your sales, marketing and business teams to give their individual opinion on what design elements are working very well for the competition, and what weaknesses they can see. By starting your analysis on your competitors first, you will build up a bit of objectivity so you can then turn the same harsh critique onto yourself.

Look for ways the design and language make a document unique. Do they have a friendly look and feel that reflects more personalized service? Do they look more professional than you? Why? Is it because the page is less cluttered, the colours are more toned down or some other reason? Is their website easier to navigate than your own? What do you think their reasons behind these choices were? Is there anything you can learn from them? Most importantly, how are these competitors using design for competitive advantage?

Now for the hard part – using the same analysis on yourself. Reassure your staff that this is not an exercise where they need to defend their work, it is merely a way of gaining useful information that could give you a competitive advantage that improves your bottom line. This aspect of the audit sometimes proves a bit tricky so you might need an independent opinion from a graphic design firm that understands the process to help you out.

It is amazing how much strategic information this process can generate. It will give you new ideas and a fresh perspective that can influence the entire way you approach your marketing for the year. And considering a lot of businesses think of graphic design as an annoying inconvenience, if you are the first to use this more strategic approach you will find it is another tool to help you stay one step ahead of the competition.

Laminate Flooring Cleaning Tips

Laminate flooring may be made to look like other kinds of floors, but that does not mean it is not unique in other ways. When it comes to cleaning laminate floors, for example, there are some definite do's and don'ts. True, when it comes to cleaning laminate is not as demanding as, say, carpet or certain types of tile flooring. But it still needs thorough, periodic cleaning.

To begin with, the most important thing is to give your laminate floor a regular light sweeping. This prevails any dirt or grit from building up, detracting from your floor's appearance. It also brings the dust that goes into the room's air.

If sweeping is not going to get the job done you can try damp mopping. Use water with a little vinegar in it and make sure to wring the mop out thoroughly before applying it to the floor. You do not want to use excess water. In fact, any time you find standing water on your laminate floor, it should be soaked up immediately.

Sometimes a little extra elbow grease might be needed, in which case cleaning by hand with a cloth moistened with a cleaning solution should do the trick. Just make sure that the solution is one that the manufacturer of your laminate flooring has approved. Using the right cleaner will make the job easier and help remove sticky and stubborn substances. Once again, when the job is done, soak up any excess water.

Water and humidity are laminate flooring's enemies. For this reason you should not even consider steam cleaning. Steam cleaning is fine for certain other floor types – like carpet and tile – but is highly likely to damage a laminate floor. If you're faced with cleaning challenges that the above methods just can not handle, you might try applying a little acetone or alcohol to the problem area and using a soft bristled brush to scrub it. This method can often be used to successfully remove asphalt, paint, crayon and even cigarette burns.

And never let your laminate floor fool you: Even though it can be made to look just like real wood, it is not – which means no sanding, refinishing or waxing. Also, avoid using cleaning products of an abrasive nature. And keep those harsh scouring pads and that steel wool away too. These will only cause scratching, and over time, more serious wear.

Building Projects With Treated Wood

Building with treated wood and the idea that this project will last forever because of the wood you used is not necessarily true. Over the years I have seen contractors and homeowners use treated wood for projects like building decks with this idea in mind.

I just met with a homeowner that was asking me about vinyl fencing. The homeowner approached me with some facts about vinyl fencing. She started to explain to me how long a vinyl fence would last cases a wood fence. I reminded her that the vinyl posts typically slip over metal or wood building materials.

She proceeded to inform me that treated wood will last a lot longer than wood used when building a wooden fence. It took me a while to change her mind and reprogram her with a few picture this from my website. I know this is hard to imagine but wood rots and steel rust.

All you end up with is a vinyl fence that is in pretty good shape if taken care of properly laying down in your yard with broken or rusted fence posts.

Do you know that some people use treated wood for countertops and food preparation areas when building certain projects like an outdoor barbecue? Do you know people build outdoor furniture with treated wood and then sit in it with a chance of toxic chemicals entering into your body? This is where Redwood comes in as a natural building product or other nice looking woods. Redwood is classified as a softwood and if used for a countertop and a barbecue kitchen area you will have to protect it from heavy pans and people using the countertop for a cutting board.

Do not use treated wood for a projects that will be used for food preparation later.

It's a good idea to wash your hands after handling treated lumber. It's a really good idea to wash your hands after using treated lumber if you are going to eat something or make something for another person or yourself.

For all the homeowners and building contractors that use treated wood and bury it in dirt. Or build a low lying deck right above the ground I would like to share something with you. I have been repairing and replacing your work for over 30 years now. You guys keep me busy and I want to thank you for all the years you guys have been in business.

I still can not believe the amount of work I see being done using treated wood with the illusion that it will last longer than regular construction standard wood. I do not know how else to put it except to say treated wood will rot fast in the right conditions.

Treated wood does need to be protected from rain, snow, heat and other elements of the weather. It can not sit in the dirt or lay in water for long periods of time without slowly disintegrating. Oh yeah one more thing termites will eat sections of the wood that is not completely treated.

Use treated wood properly when building and inform other people about some of the stuff you learned in this article. Reread this article later and save it for the future.

What Is a Retractable Seating System?

The use of a retractable seating system has become commonplace in areas where space is at a premium.

Retractable seating is composed of multi-tiered platforms and it uses limited space for multipurpose usage. The retractable seating demonstrates a maximum seating capacity in a limited area when fully extended. One can also make use of the free space in various usages when it is fully retracted.

There are several different options which are commonly used and they all have their own unique benefits. The key to choosing a retractable seating system that best matches the intended use is by understanding what each option has to offer. When digging deeper into the details, there are a number of differences that can be spotted, however they all rely on the same basic principles.

In general, most of these seating alternatives will rely on either bench or chair seating. Depending on where you search, a retractable seating system will also be referred to as a telescopic seating system. They tend to feature multi-tiered platforms to ensure that anyone sitting in the seats will have a good view of whatever is going on.

Additionally, the seating may be operated manually or automatically depending on the size of seating.

In most cases, retracting the seats can be done on a row by row basis which makes it easy to seat a large crowd or only a few rows. This can be an incredibly important feature if you need additional floor space and do not require all of the seating.

A seating system that utilizes bleachers is most often best suited in situations where designated seating is not needed. As an added bonus, bleachers will often allow you to seat more people than when individual chairs are used. Bleachers also tend to be easier to clean which is helpful if they will be reused multiple times within a short time period.

On the other hand, a retractable seating system with chairs also has its advantages. Chairs, even plastic ones, tend to be more comfortable than bleachers. Not only the seat itself, but also the additional back support is provided. This is helpful when people will be listed for extended periods of time without doing a lot of moving, such as during speeches and lectures.

If the situation arises where the retractable seating system will not provide enough seats, then using supplementary seating or mobile seating is normally a good solution. It does not matter whether you choose to use bleachers or individual chairs, the primary benefit of a retractable seating system remains the same. It allows you to provide as much seating as necessary while still allowing you to as much free floor space as possible. This is particularly useful in multi-purpose areas such as gymnasiums and arenas.

How Long Does Teak Furniture Last?

If you have done any research on teak you have probably come across a common word, "strong." Not only is teak strong but it has many properties that naturally repel aging and natural damage and weathering of other furniture pieces made of different woods. Lets go over some of the unique properties teak wood has that makes it so superior to other furniture woods.

Natural Oils. Teak produces natural oils and special resins that repel pests such as termites and other wood damaging insects. This in turn keeps the wood solid and improves it's strength quality and extends the life of the wood. Because of these resins it is unnecessary to put a protective chemical finish on the wood like you do with most other wood furniture.

Teak is easy to alter. Many people like to alter the color of woods. Teak wood is excellent to stain as it is easy to contract staining color and keep the color for a very long time without fading. Although teak wood has a very beautiful golden look, you can rest assured that if you want your teak a little more red or darker brown that you can achieve this project with ease.

Teak is ageless. Did you know that teak furniture can last up to and over 100 years? Teak holds up very well to natural weathering and its resins and oils also prevents rotting. The really nice thing about teak is that it does not split or warp like other woods do. Because of this one property, teak was the main building material of ships in the past and is continued being used in modern boats and yachts.

Teak is easy to clean. Patio furniture always looks to be the most aborted furniture pieces of a home. When you have yard parties people spill drinks and food all over your patio furniture. Unlike cloth pieces that never let go of stains, teak is easy to clean. When a teak piece of furniture needs cleaning one can clean it with these everyday house supplies; hose, mild soap, and a gentle scrub brush. Just combine the water and soap and use the brush to lightly scrub off the mess. Simple use the garden hose and spray off the chair and your all done!

To conclude a teak chair can survive years upon years of frequent use without any special care. This alone makes teak wood furniture one of the most thoughtful after types of furniture in the world!

Instructions To Preserve Redwood Outdoor Furniture

Good preservation techniques for outdoor wooden furniture add extra life to them. Unlike metal-bodied exterior furniture, wood exterior furniture tend to be sensitive to humidity, sunlight and cold weather. Manufacturers of them recommend their owners should bring them indoors during winter months and cover them lest they should sag, twist and decay ever.

But, if anyone owns redwood outdoor furniture, such as wooden tables, picnic tables, etc., they do not worry a bit, because the internal properties of the redwood logs are far better than other popular logs. Redwood exterior furniture qualifies to outlast metal-bodied outdoor furniture in every way.

They can last for decades in year-round weather without maintenance too. Such furniture generally lasts for ten to forty years, even under harsh year-round outdoor conditions. Here, one thing that matters most is wherever you have chosen quality redwood. Being outside through years is no doubt rough on any wood's finish. Their surface may absorb ultra-violet rays, pollution, and get affected due to the constant changes in temperature and moisture. They may also oxidize.

For this reason, most wood furniture other than redwood types just does not hold up and the surface color slowly changes towards silver patina. This even leads their finish to fade extremely. But, redwood outdoor furniture owners who have furniture like park benches, garden benches, picnic tables, garden swing, kids' swing, etc. do not need to worry about weather effects. Nor do they require replacing their sets when they are made of redwood.

Despite the fact that redwood outdoor furniture severely requires stringent caring, owners of them insist on following some regular types of preservation techniques. Here are a few instructions that can help reserve the wood finish.

Instruction # 1:

The first and foremost thing that you need to keep in mind is start out with the best quality outdoor woods. Not all their varieties are made for the wear and tear of the outdoor weather. Pine, teak, oak, etc., for example, are simply not made to handle the elements. But, redwood, cedar, etc. are dependable and recommended for their natural ability to repel bugs, moisture. They are excellent wood varieties for outdoor use.

Instruction # 2:

You may bring the furniture indoors during a very cold, rainy or snowy winter months. This is just recommended for those who are fussy about their exterior wood furniture. But, frankly speaking, redwood logs after having been seasoned for decades do not require such kind of preservation. However, you can even pull the furniture benefit the covering or overhang of the redwood garden pergolas to protect them.

Instruction # 3:

Cover outdoor furniture properly by pulling the cover tightly over every piece of furniture. Then, tuck it under a covered area to make sure moisture does not saturate into them. Remember that not all covers are alike, either. So, make sure that you are using the one that is itself best valued. Redwood patio covers are rated as the best overall covers and the best value.

Instruction # 4:

Treat the wood on regular basis. Although the owners of the redwood outdoor furniture do not have to do it, they can use high quality wood stain to keep the furniture preserved and looking fresh. But, follow the instructions of your manufacturers. Keep in mind that such higher quality wood furniture does hardly require treating regularly. They have in-built property that can guard them against any kind of inclement weather.

Buttons – History and Facts

When did buttons begin to be used? What was used to secure clothing before them? Some history and facts about the button:

  • Button-like objects have been found in the Indus Valley of ancient Pakistan and date back to around 2000 B.C.E. These were not used for fasteners, but for ornaments. Before they were used for fastening, pins, leather lacing and belts were used to secure clothing.
  • Before buttons could be used as fasteners, the button hole had to be devised. Evidence dates the first button and button hole closure systems to the 13th century in Germany. This may have been a solution to the problem of how to secure clothing that was becoming more and more form-fitting, without having to resort to sharp pins.
  • As with most anything that is new, they became a fad. Buttons and button holes covered the clothing of the well to do. The number of them and what they were made out of became a status symbol. It has been rumored that King Louis XIV of France spent over $5 million on them in his lifetime.
  • Ever wonder why men’s suit coats have non-functioning buttons sewn on the sleeves? Some say they are just for decoration, but there is also the story that King Frederick The Great of Prussia started the practice in the 18th century. The rumor goes that after an inspection of his troops, he ordered that buttons be sewn on the sleeves of their coats to discourage them from wiping their noses on them!
  • The Scovill Manufacturing Company in America made a set of gold buttons with the profile of George Washington on them that were presented to Marquis de Lafayette during his U.S. visit in 1824.
  • With the increased cost of ivory in the 19th century, button manufacturers began to make them out of a nut from a specific kind of palm tree in South America. This is called vegetable ivory, or corozo. When the nut is dried, it is a very reasonable facsimile for genuine ivory, and is still used today.
  • The first buttons made from celluloid, one of the first types of plastics, were made in the 1860’s.
  • Before World War One, most button manufacturing was done in Europe, specifically England. After the war, the United States became the center of button making until modern times.

What Sherry Argov Doesn’t Know About Getting Him to Propose

Sherry Argov, New York Times bestselling author of “Why Men Marry Bitches,” and “Why Men Love Bitches,” obviously knows a lot about men, or at least her readers like what she has to say enough to make her a bestselling author. While you can certainly read her books and get some answers – do you really want to resort to being a “bitch” to get him to propose? She’s very honest in her book titles and says “Why Men Marry Bitches: A Woman’s Guide to Winning Her Man’s Heart.”

Note the keywords she uses: “A Woman’s Guide.”

Answer this: who is better equipped to tell you how to win YOUR man’s heart – a woman – or a man? While there are definitely women in the world who will show you “how to please your man,” as evidenced by the many raunchy videos on the Internet, getting him to propose is an entirely different manner.

You can believe it or not – when it comes to marriage – a man isn’t ruled by his sexual organs. Sex and marriage aren’t in the same bucket for a man. Yes, sex comes with marriage, but it’s not the reason he gets married. The reasons a man gets married are much more complicated than that and they will vary with the man, but for most, it’s because his “gut feelings” are telling him “she’s the one.”

Getting him to that point won’t work if you’re trying to be a “bitch” or trying to manipulate him. Coercing or cajoling him won’t work either and will end up with him not only resenting you, but pulling away. A man’s gut instincts have long served him. His gut instincts don’t go through his brain for analysis like a woman’s intuition does, they are hard-wired into his entire being. It’s how he’s survived as a “hunter,” and made it through wars throughout the centuries. When his “gut instincts” kick in, he automatically responds, period.

Authors loved by the publishing industry because of high book sales are one thing. But anyone can claim “expert” status, write a book these days and be published on Amazon. Who would you go to get advice on “winning” his heart, expert or not — men with heart or a woman of unknown relationship status?

What does your “women’s intuition” tell you? Follow it for sure. Just like a man and his “gut instincts,” following your women’s intuition will never lead you astray.

Instead of Getting Angry, Learn to Write a Complaint Letter in Business Format

This is the correct business format for a Letter of Complaint to another business. Use your words with caution because people are often funny about their money.

Tips and Hints to consider:

Keep in mind that Business Writing is about "Getting to the point"

Think about what you want to say before you start writing and get your facts straight.

Stay objective and consider through the letter even if you are feeling angry.

Your letter will include the following:

1. Contacts
2. The complaint
3. Reason why you are complaining
4. The amount to be refunded
5. How long you are willing to wait (be reasonable please)
6. Reason why they should refund you
7. "Thank you" as well as any enclosures such as statements, receipts etc …

Remember to send copies of the receipts, not the originals. However, the original letter you type up and sign should be sent to the recipients. Make a copy for your records.

If you do not receive the response you had wished for, you may want to consider writing a second letter with a firmer tone, or you can contact the next person on their chain of command.

Dear Mr. Name,

It has been excellent for my company to use your services for many high-quality door and window projects. I have always been satisfied with your services, however I am writing to you with a concern that I hope you will be able to address.

My company ordered from Custom Wood on July 2 by telephone. We ordered double-glazed, made-to-order oak French doors. When they arrived on July 25, my carpenter informed me that the doors were cut too small. Instead of measuring a total of 11 feet by 8 inches, the doors measured 11 feet by 4 inches.

After waiting three weeks for the door to remodel a kitchen, it was obvious that the customers were not going to wait any longer to have their kitchen finished. My carpenter was able to fix the mistake and did so at the expense of $ 455.50.

I am requesting that Custom Wood reimburse the $ 455.50 paid to fix the doors sent in error to my company. I am including the carpenter's bill, and would appreciate prompt attention to this matter.

I would like to continue business with your company, as I have always been very satisfied in the past. Thank you very much for you time.

Sincerely,

My name

Starting Your Own House Clearance Business

Many of those who lose their jobs during a recession will find it tough to find another job and may start to think about investing in their own business with whatever redundancy pay they may have received. This can be a golden opportunity to become your own boss, but it takes hard work, determination and perseverance to make a new business successful and it rarely happens overnight.

It is always tempting when thinking about starting a business to do something you have always loved doing – make your hobby your job. But, sadly, in the majority of these cases the businesses just don’t succeed. This is mainly because they have been embarked upon with a personal bias and not from a purely business perspective. Whatever decision you might make about going it alone, that decision must always be a business one first and foremost.

The best approach to starting your own business is to research all those services or products that are required in both good and bad economic times.

A house clearance business is one such service that will always be in demand. More and more people are looking for this service sometimes simply to get their houses ready for sale. Or they might have moved and settled permanently abroad and now wish someone to clear out the house in readiness for selling it. Establishing a good business relationship with local estate agents can lead to regular business referrals.

But house clearance is most particularly required after a death in the family. The bereaved often do not want to clear the house at such an emotional time, and the act of disposing of a loved one’s belongings can be overwhelming. Relatives can struggle to sort out the belongings of the deceased whilst coping with their grief and the ongoing demands of work and family life. Or there may simply be no emotional ties and the deceased is a distant relative in another part of the country.

Whatever the reason, there is a booming business clearing out other people’s unwanted belongings.

Whilst local auctioneers do sometimes offer house clearance services, they are really looking for valuable items to sell in their auctions and are not usually interested in the junk. So if you are embarking on this type of business then you need to be prepared to clear everything and often to deal with people at a difficult time in their lives.

Many items that are unwanted by one individual can still be recycled or donated to charity so be sure to consider these options where possible.

To distinguish your business from the rogue element that operate bogus house clearance services it is worth joining the UK House Clearance Association.

Every member of the association makes some key commitments, which are simply good business practice:

· To provide a clear description, price and timetable for the house clearance to be carried out.

· To guarantee full liability insurance.

· To hold a current waste carrier’s license issued by the Environment Agency.

UV Gel Nail Polish – What Are the Advantages and Disadvantages

UV gel nail polish has increased in popularity with women who frequent salons and nail bars. Women try to stretch their manicures for as long as possible to get value for their money, but also because of the time constraints in modern day life. Regular nail lacquer takes a while to dry, even with newer brands that claim to dry in 15 seconds or less. A UV gel polish, in contrast requires a nail curing lamp to set, but once that’s done, no additional drying time is required. This makes it preferable to women who have busy lives and don’t have time for regular salon visits.

So, what is UV gel nail polish?

Like traditional nail lacquer sold in stores and used at salons or nail bars, UV gel nail polish comes in different colors and is applied using a brush. The bottles of polish usually come with their own brushes, but some brands sell the polish in little pots which have to be applied using a long handled brush sold separately. While both forms of polish are best applied using thin coats, UV gel polish has to be cured between each coat before a new one is painted over it. A nail curing lamp is required to cure gel polish.

What are the advantages of using a gel nail polish?

Gel polish is favored over regular lacquer because of the benefits it has to offer. The most important being the amount of time it can stay on the nail without chipping, even when regularly exposed to soap water, and hand crèmes. UV gel polish sets in minutes and the client is usually able to use their hands as normal without fear of smudging their polish. It is a practical option for women who don’t have time for regular salon visits as it can last up to two weeks or longer, depending on the brand of polish used and the condition of the underlying nail.

Are there any disadvantages to using a gel nail polish?

The main disadvantage used to be the cost of application. Application required visiting a salon to have a nail technician apply the polish. This has however changed as gel polish is now available to purchase for home use. The cost of buying your own gel polish kit is quite significant, however if you consider the amount you spend on your salon visits, the upfront costs won’t seem as excessive.

Another disadvantage to gel polish is the amount of time it takes to remove it from your nails. Gel polish cannot be removed using regular nail polish remover, instead an acetone based remover has to be used. The acetone is either applied to the nail by soaking it in cotton wool, before placing it on the nail bed and wrapping it with foil, or soaking the fingers in acetone in a nail bowl. The soak off process can take anything from 15 to 20 minutes. Again the soak off process can be done at home, at a time that is suitable or convenient.

The final disadvantage is the gap that appears when your nail grows out. If your nails grow really rapidly, you may have to increase the frequency of your UV gel polish applications.

All these disadvantages can easily be mitigated. Like any other beauty product on the market, improper application or removal of gel polish can damage your nails.
