3 More Foods To Avoid If You Have H Pylori

H pylori infections are relatively common. Some people develop nasty symptoms, whereas others do not. The majority of people who do develop symptoms experience problems in the upper GI tract, such as heartburn, bloating and stomach pain, though some may also develop lower GI symptoms such as diarrhea.

What many folk don’t realize is that a number of commonly eaten foods can cause exactly the same – or similar – symptoms as H pylori. This can lead to confusion. First, H pylori can be successfully eradicated only for symptoms to remain if these irritating foods are not avoided. Second, symptoms can all go away when people avoid these foods, even when H pylori is still present.

Thus, eradicating H pylori and overcoming symptoms are not necessarily the same thing! Unfortunately, the medical system does not address foods and diet when treating patients who have H pylori. But think about it: the foods that you put in your mouth day in, day out, are sure to influence the health of your gut.

Fortunately, it’s relatively simple to avoid these trouble-causing foods, as long as you know the what alternative foods are available.

In a previous article on this topic, I explained how gluten, coffee and soy-based foods can all irritate the stomach and intestinal lining in much the same way as H pylori does. Gluten and soy, in particular, are enormous problem foods. The author is allergic to soy, develops flatulence and loose stools when eating it and can attest first hand to the problems this so-called health food can cause.

Three more foods that can act as major irritants to the gut are cow’s milk, especially when heavily processed, spicy foods and polyunsaturated oils from seeds and nuts.

Cow’s milk:

Cow’s milk is actually the number one allergy causing food on the planet. It presents a conundrum because some people do very well consuming cow’s milk products. However some people are very sensitive to the sugar (lactose) and protein (casein) in milk, developing digestive symptoms, skin problems and other symptoms when they consume milk.

I recommend my clients avoid cow’s milk for 60-days, then reintroduce it, noting how they feel. In the meantime, I recommend they consume goat and sheep’s milk products, which tend to be more compatible with the human gut.

Spicy foods:

Because H pylori damages the delicate lining of the digestive system – particularly the stomach and upper intestine – spicy foods can exacerbate irritation in those areas.

However, there is a caveat here, which is that certain spices, including chilli of all things, can have anti-H pylori properties.

Again, I recommend to my clients that avoid spicy food if it causes problems, but if they feel OK eating spices, I tend to encourage their use from a therapeutic perspective.

Polyunsaturated oils:

This is probably the most controversial topic because seed and nut oils are heavily promoted as being healthy options and should replace the likes of butter.

This is false, dogmatic information. Seeds oils such as sunflower, safflower, corn, soybean and nut oils are damaging to the body, especially when consumed at levels seen in today’s society. They interfere with the body’s ability to make energy, disrupt thyroid gland function and oxidize readily in the body, setting the scene for cancer and heart disease.

Specifically, these oils affect the gut by down-regulating the activity of certain enzymes that help break down food. When food is not broken down properly, it can be putrefied in the gut, causing wind, bloating, loose stools or constipation.

I recommend coconut oil, olive oil (which has a different composition to the other vegetable and seed oils) and organic goat’s butter as optimal sources of dietary fat.

Olive oil has been shown to have anti-H pylori properties and coconut oil contains lauric acid, which also has anti-H pylori activity. Thus, not only are these oils non-disruptive to the gut, they may also assist in killing the H pylori.

In summary, if you have H pylori, avoiding cow’s milk for 60-days and removing spicy foods may assist in quickly reducing digestive symptoms. Avoiding seed oils such as sunflower, safflower, corn and soybean oil has the potential to improve all aspects of your health.

Best Herbs for Internal Detoxification – 5 Channels of Elimination

The case for ridding the body of accumulated waste is a strong one. Powerful natural healers over the years have pointed to internal cleansing time and again as a cornerstone of optimum health. Natural health adults including Dr. Bernard Jensen, Dr. Norman Walker, Ph.D., Dr. Jon Matsen, author of Eating Alive, one of the best natural health primers ever written, Dr. Paul Bragg, Dr. Herbert Shelton, Dr. Paavo Airola have all emphasized the need to cleanse our internal bodies. The list of advocates goes on and on. The question no longer is whether to detoxify, but how.

At the end of the nineteenth century, Dr. John Harvey Kellogg, of Kellogg's cereal fame and subject of the film The Road to Wellville, offered his guests a variety of cleaning programs at the Battle Creek Sanitarium. Later, Dr. Jensen assisted thousands of patients treat a wide assortment of ailments through internal cleansing at his ranch retreat in Escondido, California. But these days it is not practical for most of us to drop everything for days, weeks, or even months at a time to "clean house". We may no longer have the time, but our need to detoxify is greater than ever.

Today, toxins from every direction bombard our bodies. Poisons pollute the air we breathe. They see into the water we drink and infiltrate the food we eat. There's just no avoiding them. In 1993 over 271 million pounds of toxic chemicals (phosphoric acid, ammonia, sulfuric acid, methanol etc.) were dumped into our water supply. Agribusiness uses 33 times more pesticides today than 50 years ago. The simple truth is your filtering and eliminative organs were not designed to process such a heavy load. Sometimes they become overworked, sluggish and toxins begin to accumulate through the entire body.

Staying inside will not work either. The EPA reports that levels of pollutants inside buildings can be as much as 100 times greater than outdoor pollution levels. Time magazine, December 21,1998, in an article titled This Place makes Me Sick, reported on the escalating problem known as sick-building syndrome, a disease of modern architecture in which sealed, energy conservation buildings have become breeding grounds for some particularly insidious stuff. These include out-gassing of paint, vinyl flooring, insulation and furniture; chemical contaminants oozing from copy machines, fax machines and laser printers; molds, fungi, bacteria and dusts belching from dirty air ducts and inadequately maintained air conditioners. It's enough to make you sick … and it does.

But if this toxic monster seems unbeatable, do not despair. Therapeutic, internal cleansing can take the load off your eliminative organs and free them up to do their work. Remember that these poisons are hiding all over your body, in all the soft tissues, organs and systems. Avoid the mistake of concentrating solely on the colon. A colon cleanse will do you some good, but improvement will be marginal. The large intestine is only one of your body's five channels of elimination, albeit the most obvious one. The lungs, lymph system, kidneys and skin each have critical rods to play in the cleansing process, and you'll need to address them all to get maximum results. The liver, the primary filter for the blood stream, will almost certainly need detoxifying. However, unless it is especially weak or toxic, cleansing the liver should wait until you've lowered the toxic load on the rest of your body.

Fortunately, modern herbalists have formulated some excellent cleansing products you can use to great effect, without putting your life on hold. Keep in mind, different herbs target different organs and systems. A cleansing product's design should be comprehensive enough to do a thorough job. The best cleanses activate all five channels of elimination and promote the release of toxins from every nook and cranny. Here's what to look for.

Channel # 1 – The Colon
Without you are having 2-3 good bowel movements every day you are constipated and invariably toxic.

Health Food for the Lymph System

Too many saturated fats, refined carbohydrates, and insufficient water make lymphatic flow sluggish. A colon friendly diet is also good for the lymph. You'll also want to add some potassium rich foods like broccoli, bananas and black olives. Fresh vegetable juice made from carrots, celery, spinach and parsley is great for the lymph system and the liver. Buy it freshly made at the health food store or, if you are feeling particularly motivated, get a juice extractor and make it yourself using 3 carrots, 3 stalks of celery, a a bunch of spinach and a a bunch of parsley.

Channel # 4 – The Kidneys

Regulation of water and electrolytes, maintaining normal acid-base equilibrium, retention of vital substances and the elimination of metabolic waste is the kidneys' responsibility.

Ginger Root detoxifies the kidneys.

Horsetail tones the kidneys and bladder.

Health Food for the Kidneys

Emphasize garlic, onions, papayas, bananas, sprouts, leafy greens, cucumbers, and watermelon- all are healing to the kidneys. Try to avoid heavy starches, red meat, dairy products (except cultured), refined, salty and fatty (fast) foods- they all inhibit the kidneys' filtering ability. In general, a healthy diet that includes plenty of water will support healthy kidneys.

Channel # 5 – The Skin

The body's largest organ also happens to be the largest organ of elimination, removing over 20% of your body's waste. If you want to detoxify you're going to have to sweat.

Therapeutic Herbs

Herbs that cleansse the blood have a beneficial impact on the skin.

Black Cohosh neutralizes poisons in the blood.

Yellow Dock a great blood builder.

Burdock Root one of the best blood purifiers.

Dandelion Root detoxifies the liver and the blood.

Yarrow opens the pores to permit free perspiration.

Health Food for the Skin

Foods for healthy skin include: mineral rich foods like leafy greens, bell peppers, broccoli, sunflower and sesame seeds, fish and sea vegetables. Cultured foods like yogurt and kefir supply friendly bacteria. Eat lots of high water content foods; vegetables and vegetables, and drink plenty of water, 6-8 glasses of bottled or filtered water every day.

Turbo-charging the cleansing process with herbs and lifestyle modification has helped thousands of my clients alleviate digestive problems, lose weight, improve poor skin, eliminate allergies, constipation, fatigue, headaches, brain fog, menstrual problems … the list goes on and on. Chances are, it can help you too.

Different Types of Insulation

Insulation helps in energy conservation, which keeps your house warm during winters and cool during summers. This helps in saving money on energy bill as there the place is airtight and needs less power to keep it cool or warm. Apart from offering heat insulation, these also offer sound insulation which helps in reducing the sound transmission from one room to another or from outside to inside and vice versa. There are different types of insulation available in the market, such as fiber glass, cellulose and foam insulation, which have different R-value. Moreover, these insulation material also differs in thickness and density. The most commonly used insulation, found in residential and commercial buildings, are blanket insulation, loose-fill insulation, rigid board insulation and spray foam insulation.

The loose fill insulation is made up of loose fibers and fiber pellets, which fill in the cavities or attics using special machines. Although these are expensive, it is also efficient as it completely insulates the thing and makes it airtight. There are two types of loose-fill insulation, namely cellulose as well as fiberglass and rockwool mixture. Green insulation, cellulose is composed of recycled newspaper which can be chemically treated to make it fire resistant. In contrast, the fiberglass and rockwool mixture uses the blow-in blanket system which offers full coverage and better insulation.

On the other hand, the blanket insulation is made from mineral fibers and are available in blank rolls of varying widths. These are generally used to insulate floor, ceilings as well as walls, and are installed between wooden frames and rafters. These are most affordable type of insulation, however it requires utmost precision and care, while installing, for it to be effective.

In contrast, the high quality rigid board insulation is made from fiber glass, polystyrene or polyurethane and is available in varying thickness. It is generally used in cathedral ceilings, concrete slab ceilings and for reproofing of the basement walls and flat roofs. The only precaution that needs to be considered while installing it internally, is that should be covered in accordance with the building codes and fire safety measures. In case you install it externally, then it must be covered with weatherproof facing.

The spray foam is composed of two liquids, namely a polymer agent and a foam agent, which are sprayed into cavities to make things airtight. On application, the liquid form expands and turn into solid plastic, accounting countless air-filled cells. These are expensive than other forms of insulation, but it is also easy to install and can be done without professional help.

Here, depending upon your home's requirement you may use Foam Insulation, fiberglass insulation or any other type of insulation, which not only preserves energy but also offers Sound Insulation. As a responsible citizen, it is advisable that you use Green Insulation , such as cellulose which is environment friendly.

The Importance of Building Insurance

All lenders insist on Buildings Insurance if any property is secured against a loan. If anything adverse happens to the property (like it being burnt down), the same property can be rebuilt from the proceeds of the insurance claim. And if your property is mortgage free and a similar destruction occurs to it, you will still be protected by the insurance policy and will be able to rebuild your property from the proceeds of your claim.

All Buildings Insurances are taken out so as to have a peace of mind against misfortunes that you hope will never occur. This kind of insurance offers protection against structural damages eg roofs, walls, floors, ceilings, windows and doors. The causes of structural damages specified in policies are usually by fire, detonation, burglary or attempted burglary, malicious damage / vandalism, natural calamities like lightning, flooding, storms, earthquakes, disappearance and falling trees etc. Also included in the policies are damages on outdoor properties such as gates, fines and railroads.

But do be aware that not all policies cover all the above mentioned potential damages and each insurer will have its own exclusion due to that particular policy. Should you require any specific cover which has not been detailed in the policy then you can obtain one by paying an additional premium.

In the unfortunate event of you not being able to reside in your property until it has been deemed safe and secure for you to live in, you will need to ensure that your buildings insurance policy covers you for a suitable alternative. out on your property. Also make sure that your policy covers you for any associated architects' or surveyor's fees.

Indications and Contraindications for Laser Therapy

Laser has been used successfully in physical medicine and rehabilitation for more than 30 years in various parts of the world and has begun to increase in popularity in the United States since the FDA has cleared its use for a number of medical indications. Laser treatment involves introducing the energy of light into damaged or injured tissues to promote healing through the stimulation of ATP production and lymphocyte activity among other physiological responses.

In the United States, the FDA has thoroughly evaluated and subsequently cleared a number of laser devices for the treatment of neck and shoulder pain and carpal tunnel syndrome. The FDA has also cleared infrared light, which is light energy with wavelengths longer than visible light, to do the following:

  • increase local blood circulation
  • alleviate minor muscle or joint aches, pain, and/or stiffness
  • relaxation of muscles
  • relieve muscle spasms
  • ease the pain and stiffness of associated with arthritis

Though laser therapy has been used safely and effectively throughout the world in animal research since the 1960’s and safely with humans since the 1970’s, there are precautions with regard to the use of laser and specific instances where laser should not be used.

Only authorized and trained medical professionals should use laser for medical treatment. Since the beam of an infrared laser cannot be detected by the human eye, protective eye wear that is designed for the wavelength being used should be worn to prevent accidental exposure. Infrared light will not usually cause the eye to blink for protect itself. Another precaution relates to the use of laser over growth plates in the bones. Though very few, if any, studies have concluded that the use of laser has any negative effect on growth plates, it is probably wise to avoid using a laser directly over them. Highly reflective jewelry should be removed from the area being treated, and treatment should not be done over or near reflective surfaces. Laser should only be applied to the area to be treated and should not be used over areas where sensation has been compromised, as the patient may not be able sense discomfort if the laser is too intense.

Laser should not be used to irradiate the eyes, over cancerous tumors, within 4 to 6 months of radiation therapy, over hemorrhage, over or near the thyroid or endocrine glands, over a fetus or uterus during pregnancy, in cases where the patient has sensitivity to light, if the patient is using medication that is photosensitive, or with patients that have vascular disease.

Laser use has been proven effective for the treatment of a number of conditions, and may prove to be effective in the treatment of others as the use of laser increases. However, when laser is used caution should be exercised and attention should be paid to the conditions under which laser may be harmful to avoid negative effects.

Many Aspects of Modern Travel Was Pioneered by the Ancient Romans

Modern travelers take the open road for granted. We can hop into exquisitely engineered modern vehicles, pop onto smooth, straight freeways, well lit, with excellent signage and many roadside conveniences. We can cover as much ground as we might like in any direction, in relative comfort and safety.

Much that we love about modern road travel was actually available 2500 years ago to the ancient Romans. They created the template for a system of interconnected roads and conveniences that we have simply adapted during the 20th century as the vehicle became the mass method of conveyance. The road system that they built to connect to their far-flung empire is still in use in many places.

As the Roman Empire flourished, conquered and consolidated new lands and needed to efficiently manage these territories the necessity for a durable network of roads became obvious to the ruling class. Prior to Roman ascendancy roads around the world were simple unpaved paths cut into the landscape by pack animals, carts and people moving goods to trade, barter and local markets.

The Romans prospered by trading in the lands that they conquered, but they also needed to move great armies, control supply lines and have the ability to quickly transport edicts, orders and news to the far corners of the empire in a timely manner. To build this essential intra-state network of highways the Romans utilized the manpower always available in their army legions.

The quality and durability of Roman roads still amazes. Hanging on topography Roman roads were famously straight for as far as the eye could see. This engineering feat was accomplished without any of the modern surveying equipment used by road builders today. The Romans invented a simple device called the gromma and this became the principal tool utilized for accurately surveying roads and thoroughfares.

The gromma ingeniously uses two strings with a weight tide to the end of each. The strings are attached to the ends of a length of wood. The surveyor would simply line up the strings until they appeared as one, and would have assistants plant stakes approximately every 100 yards apart. The surveyor, using the gromma as a guide, would have the assistants slightly adjust the posture placement until the strings of the gromma and the line of stakes appeared as one. The result was a roadbed that was true, accurate and easily utilized by the construction crews.

The Romans laid rock above the roadbed so the surface was higher than the land next to the road. This enabled water to drain off to the side and mean that roads did not wash out in inclement weather. Gravel was placed on both sides of the roadway to act as a sort of gutter to carry away runoff.

This system, when viewed on a modern map, appears much as the present day system of interstate highways is constructed. Spain, Gaul (modern France), Italy, Germany, the British Isles, Greece and Northern Africa all were tied closely together by this amazing transport network. Modern roadways parallel this grid in most countries where the Romans built their highways.

The Romans built over 2000 bridges. Many are in use, carrying traffic to this day. The arches they crafted were amazingly strong, with strategically placed keystones supporting the massive weight and pressure of these utilitarian edifices. In addition, these bridges are some of the most beautiful structures ever built. The Roman word for bridge was "pontificat". Today we apply the descriptive name "Pontiff" to the Pope of the Roman Catholic Church, as the Pope acts as the bridge between heaven and earth.

Hundreds of tunnels had to be built through the rugged topography of central Europe in order to move traffic to the most expeditious routes. The Romans had no power tools to gouge through rock. They had no dynamite. The technology to construct these tunnels was primitive, but most effective. Engineers would build massive bonfires right against the rock face of the surveyed tunnel. Then they would boil vinegar and have this splashed against the burnt rock face. While the effect of the heat and vinegar was greatest sappers would begin to chip at the weakened surface with chisels and hammers. Some of the tunnels took 20 years to complete.

As the road system grow, the need for roadside services become acute. Travel was typically undertaken in approximately 20-mile daily chunks. As a result every 20 miles or so, along the breadth of the massive Roman network of roads, there were roads inns, workshops to repair transit vehicles, and stables to care for livestock. Maps were prevalent and indicated not only place names, but distances, accommodations, levels of luxury, services, and military garrisons.

As distance was crucial in planning itineraries the Romans perfected the odometer 2000 years ago. They utilized a 42-inch diameter wheel and a series of gears that engaged each time the wheel made a full turn. The interlocking gear system was calibrated so each gear turned as it was activated until a Roman mile (approximately 5000 modern feet) was covered. Then a gravel pellet would fall into a container as holes in the gears came into alignment. This amazingly accurate measuring system enabled the Romans to mark their maps, and place stones along the roadsides marked with precise distances covered and to the next town or service stop.

Today, travel has become a hugely popular experience enjoyed by millions of people around the world. Whether a brief weekend road trip, a cruise or an international vacation, people love to go. So did the Romans. The Romans were the richest people in the history of the world to that time. The system of roads that built were heavily utilized for recreational travel, the first time in history that people had the wherewithal to move freely about for strictly leisure purposes.

Travel guidebooks were omnipresent in ancient Rome. The travel guide for the many attractions of Greece, for example, was 20 full papyrus pages long. Inns and eating establishments were rated for economy, luxury, cleanliness and safety. The modern Michelin and Fodor guidebooks are simply the successors of the Roman travel guides.

At most major crossroads on Roman roads there was a sign offering directions, distances and recommended stops for repairs, refreshments or relaxation. Many also included a news board with recent proclamations, travel warnings and local notices. These were the world's first billboards.

As travel grew in popularity so did the menu of services available to the traveler. Chariots, sedan chairs, carts, wagons and covered wagons with swivel seats and dice tables (for the rich) were available for rent. Accommodations varied broadly in cost and quality. Hostels, servants quarters, private sleeping rooms, luxury quarters with fire, bathing and mattresses were on offer depending on one's pocketbook. Food was offered in similar variety.

The world's first fast food was also available from some purveyors. The cart simply dropped to a door or opening, the menu card was reviewed and the order placed and delivered to the vehicle to be consumed as the journey continued.

The Roman Empire began to consume itself around the 5th century. The pursuit of luxury, greed and laziness made the Empire corpulent, vainglorious and decadent. The same roads that had been so crucial in their military, recreational and commercial enterprises came to haunt the Romans. Their many enemies used this road network to attack their former masters. The Visigoths, the Franks and the Mongols used the Roman roads to carve back lands formerly taken from them and to attack Rome mercilessly. By the end of the 6th Century Roman hegemony was long a thing of the past.

The demise of the Roman Empire meant that the maintenance and continued construction of the roads came to a halt. This had the unintended consequence of leaving huge swaths of the system in areas where there was no effective government. Trade came to a halt. The roads were deserted. In many areas, especially North Africa, Britain, Spain and France the Roman highways disappeared beneath weeds and fauna.

The result was the banquetment of the Dark Ages. People stopped traveling for almost any reason. Until the Crusades there was almost no interaction between peoples and cultures. The insularity of tribes and fiefdoms lead to a reawakening of ignorance, disease, superstition and hate.

For six centuries the Romans ruled the known world. Their ability to create, invent and improvise has served mancind ever since. The vast Roman network of interlocking roads, tunnels, bridges, mapmaking, services, commercial enterprises and exploration is the guide we utilize to this day in communication, logistics and locomotion. We have much to thank these brilliant Romans for as we utilize so many of theirventions to this very day.

Application for Rapid Product Development

Rapid product development can be explained as inventing new product and services to the global market cost effectively and quickly than its major competitors by having a strategic and competitive advantage. The key aspect of the rapid product development process is that the application of rapid advanced manufacturing technology and applications to the product manufacturing processes takes place at ease. The parametric growth of rapid product development techniques in web based applications has become a multitasking approach in SEO environments.

Rapid product development (RPD) and multitasking approaches have become centrally fused and marginally integrated to such an extent that both processes and applications have an extra dimension in intrinsically and extrinsically dynamic RPD related SEO environments. For instance Amazon and Accenture Management Consultancy, the world's largest management consultancy firm, have adopted RPD techniques that share an identical growth trajectory in both target marketing and SEO related concept development.

Amazon's Kindle and Wal-Mart's customer relations management (CRM) software has been developed on the same line as that of Microsoft's super brand related customer value creations dynamics. Ever since Wal-Mart launched its RPD applications on a newer SEO platform, its sales volume has been rising faster. In fact Wal-Mart's RPD applications have become a threat to Amazon. In this instance rapid application development, product design and development require SEO processes to be highly articulated in terms of CRM and CMS (Content Management Systems). In such situation SEO architecture can be both costs inefficient and less dynamic depending on the availability of flexible and variable design and development techniques.

Rapid product development and rapid application developments are synonymous. However, the latter concept has been used by industry experts to make reference to applications related to SEO environments that are highly characterized by modally segregated applications and systems. For instance Amazon's RAD process on its globally famous Kindle platform has all the advanced characteristics of a modern SEO architecture. Its applications have often been criticized for both non-conformity and non-integrity in keeping with facilitating function based environments. The process of bringing the products in to the global market and developing them according to the international standards cost effectively is the largest problems in the modern world.

Many advanced tools have been developed in the global market with the latest technology. Thus the applications can be both dynamic and static. For example dynamic applications can be seen in satellite communications and related applications. By adopting rapid product development strategies, companies can gain the strategic advantage and a better position in the global market place sooner than their competitors. For instance effective execution of the process allows the company to develop their products to be marketed within a few days ahead of the competitors. The key aspect of effective rapid product development is that the effective application of prototyping and advanced manufacturing technologies.

Thus the multitasking environment of the SEO enables to attract customers' attraction to the specific products that have been launched in the global market. One of the best web based applications to be used for the product development is the BugTracker.Net which is an efficient tracker used by thousands of development and support teams around the world. This enables the user to maintain and manage sound customer relations in order to facilitate the product development and increase the profitability of the corporation. This specifically determinates the product design and development, process where innovative product needs have been met in keeping with the multitudinal concepts and reliable theories in the differentiation of the market and the leadership. A particular design team with vast industrial experience can adopt CRM strategies in order to find the ultimate solutions to the complex problems.

Muscle Building – How to Build a "Sweeping Shape" to Your Legs

Nobody empathizes more with the skinny-legged guy who feels self-conscious about his underpinnings than I do. I grow up with sisters who laughed at my legs whenever I put on a pair of shorts. It was not until we were both adults that one of my sisters confessed: "Scott, I was jealous of your skinny legs when we were kids." Well, thanks for telling me now, Sis. "Do you realize the childhood trauma you could have spared me if you've revealed that before I hit hit puberty?" I asked with irritation.

When I reached high school, I finally talked myself in to not caring about my underdeveloped "wheels" and decided to show them off when I was getting in shape for the wrestling season. I was on the first quarter mile or so of an after school jog when I saw two attractive females walking home together from our school. I overheard one of them say "look at his legs". Then they both burst out laughing. I felt my face turn so friggin 'red that passersby in cars probably thought I was a stop sign.

It was early experiences like these that motivated me to build my muscles. And yes, I was really hell-bent on getting some respectable lower limbs beneath me. In my early twenties, I read all the bodybuilding magazines that told me to squat, squat, and squat some more. And what did I do? Well, I followed this simplistic advice. I did free weight squats until steam was coming out of my ears and members at my gym were scared to death that they were going to get called on to be my spotter. I performed my squats as heavy as possible and with full range of motion. I became a squatting machine.

So what were my results? To put it mildly: not commensurate with my efforts. Oh, I did build some size in my thighs, but not nearly what I wanted wanted to personally distancing myself from the "bird legs" which had been a focal point of my pubescent self-consciousness. What I really wanted was that unmistakable "sweep" in the appearance of my thighs when looking at them straight on. I wanted muscular contour that shows, even while wearing a pair of jeans, that I've got some serious power in the foundation that's holding me up.

In my many years of natural bodybuilding, I finally discovered what I think is one of the most effective thigh-building routines. It builds sweep in the thighs by intensely targeting both the inner and outer quadriceps muscles. When performed diligently and consistently, it will soon give you a feeling that your quads are vibrating in muscular power with each impact your feet make with the ground when you walk.

But what do I mean when I say "performed diligently and consistently"? What I'm alluding to is the number one rule for successfully adding muscle to any area of the body; adequate tissue breakdown and recuperation. No specialized routine or sequence of exercises will produce positive results if we just haphazardly go through the motions of working out and taking some rest days between those workouts. We must pay close attention to how much tissue breakdown we're inflating on a muscle and how much rest time that particular muscle needs to fully recuperate. This varies from one person to another and even varies within the same individual from one time to another. Nowhere is this principle more important than when working the thigh and glute muscles, which measure a lot of tissue that needs recuperation between workouts.

That said, let's get to the meat (or muscle) of the matter for building a nice "thigh sweep".

Exercise # 1: Compound Movement for the Entire Lower Body

I believe in starting an effective thigh workout with a compound movement. It can be full squats with free weights, machine squats, or leg presses. Regardless of which you feel most comfortable with, you need to work the entire area, including the glute muscles, for power, size, and balance in your lower body.

I shoot for six to eight repetitions on all leg exercises (usually six). Neither I nor my clients have ever reaped much muscle gaining benefit by going after the higher reps. Some trainers hypothesize that it works the slow twitch fibers by doing so (thereby building all fibers). I've found that it builds lung capacity more than muscle size. If you want to have impressive workouts more than impressive muscles (or you want to be able to sprint up a mountain), then by all means, go for fifteen reps.

On squats as well as the following isolation exercises, I recommend doing four to seven sets – only the last one going near to muscular failure.

Exercise # 2: Horizontal Leg Press Machine with Feet Apart / Toes Pointed Out

After the squats, I target the Vastus Medialis (inner thigh) with very controlled presses on an Eagle Leg Press machine. I like to believe that this machine offers more control for this movement, but maybe I just feel like doing a lying down exercise after performing squats. At any rate, I position my feet wide apart on the platform, point my toes forty-five degrees outward, and do not go deeper than parallel with my thighs. I also do not lock my knees at the top of the movement, thereby creating constant tension on my trembling inner thighs.

Exercise # 3: Inner Thigh Leg Extensions

Many trainers do not realize that they can really hone in on the inner and outer thigh muscles (respectively) by doing leg extensions in a specific manner. For inner thighs, move the leg extension seat as far forward as possible, point your toes straight up, and then try to face the soles of your feet toward each other. It should feel like you're positioned in a "pigeon-toed" manner. As you bring the weight up and extend your legs, lean your upper body while keeping your feet in the position described. You will feel this in the Vastus Medialis (inner quadriceps).

Exercise # 4: Horizontal Leg Press with Feet Together / Weight on Heals

At this point, I go back to the horizontal leg press machine and target the front quadriceps. In order to really hit the Rectus Femoris (front quad), you should put your feet together on the platform so they're touching each other, with your toes pointed straight up (no angle). Lift your toes up off the platform so that your heals are all that's touching the surface. To really hit those front and outer thighs, you need to take your weight off your toes and put it on your heals. This shifts the stress from your hip and glute region and puts it on the front legs.

Again, only descend until your thighs hit the point of being parallel with the platform. Drive the weight back to the start top position and do not lock your knees. Try to keep continuous tension on the thighs.

Exercise # 5: Outer Thigh Leg Extensions

Similar to the inner quads, we can target the Vastus Lateralis (outer quads) with a bit of customized maneuvering on the leg extension machine. This time, move the seat back as far as it will adjust so that you're almost in a supine position as you reach your feet to the extension bar. Point your toes forward instead of upward. Keeping your toes pointed forward, extend the weight upward while putting out tension on your thighs, as if you are trying to spread your feet apart, but can not. This "feet-spreading tension" with your toes pointed as forward as you can point them while raising the weight will really isolate those outer quadriceps muscles.

So there you have it. Perform this front thigh workout (along with some leg curls for hamstrings) no more than once a week. Strive for higher weight volume levels through intensity of effort and adequate recuperation. With applied diligence, this routine will bring that coveted "sweep" to your upper legs.

Gel Fireplaces Vs Wood Burning Fireplaces

Traditionally, when people consider the available options for real burning fireplaces, they consider either a wood burning or gas fueled fireplace. I'd like to explore the third option; gel fireplaces. To highlight the characteristics of gel fueled fireplaces, I'll compare them to their wood burning counterpart. Most gas fueled fireplaces are used with the addition of wooden logs, so indirect comparisons could also be made in the following text. To make the comparison, I'll examine the topics of maintenance, versatility and style.

Maintenance and cleanliness are very important to homeowners. Gel fireplaces create either smoke nor ash, which are the primary concerns of ordinary fireplaces. This makes maintenance and cleaning very easy. Depending on the type of gel fireplace, you may only have to clean glass and wood components, like any other piece of furniture. Consult the manufacturer's literature or the many how-to sites available online for tips on caring for these materials. Gel fireplaces have fuel that comes in metallic cans, which are easy to replace. Wood burning fireplaces require the log to fully burn into ash, which can occasionally extend to the area immediately surrounding the fireplace. Ash usually spreads when logs are added and repositioned, or when fireplace tools are inserted and withdrawn from the fireplace. This leads to additional sweeping and vacuuming. Also, chimneys may require cleaning, as they become a fire hazard if a blockage occurs.

Wood burning fireplaces require ventilation, usually a chimney, and surrounding masonry. The masonry insulated the rest of the structure from the fire and provides a safe area for embers to fall and smoke to rise. Unfortunately, this requires them to be fixed in one spot of the home. Gel fuel is a very popular choice for both fixed and portable fireplaces. Portable fireplaces can be used indoors and outdoors. Also, they are virtual installation free. This makes gel fireplaces ideal for apartment residents looking to have the warmth of a real flame without going through any construction.

Personally, I love the look of a traditional red brick or darkly stained wooden mantel around a roaring flame. No one could claim that traditional fireplaces lack style or charm. Gel fireplaces have even been designed to imitate the look of regular fireplaces. This includes artificial logs and beautifully crafted mantles. However, gel fireplaces do allow for modern, even futuristic styles, to be implemented. Without a log and the resulting ash, the space inside the fireplace can be used in new ways to produce surprisingly new looks in home heating. This includes using more glass and less bulky fixtures, which creates a clean, minimalist look.

Jobsite Cleaning is a Must For Building and Remodeling Contractors

When I first started working in construction, I was constantly stepping over large pieces of lumber that were spread all over the jobsite. I would often trip or fall over these large cumbersome items and never even think about cleaning any of it up. A clean job can make all the difference in the world and I'm going to tell you why.

When I used to work on jobs that were not clean, I would come home tired and thought it was because I worked hard all day, until I actually worked on a job that was clean. Just the fact that you have to step over construction debris all day long can wear anyone out and it definitely took its toll on me.

Almost everyone has seen pictures of students and people in the military on an obstacle course, running through a bunch of tires. If they do not place their feet directly in the center of these tires, they can easily trip and fall. This is what it feels like to me, when I'm stepping over cumbersome pieces of lumber on the jobsite obstacle course.

It was not until I met one contractor that changed my way of thinking for ever. This man would often spend an hour or two each day cleaning the job himself. I always thought that he was trying to avoid working and this was one way that he could look busy. I still think this was his main objective, but the lesson I learned is stuck in my head for ever.

If you're the type of person who does not keep their jobs clean, I suggest that you try it for a few days and see what it feels like. It changed my way of thinking and I'm sure that it will change yours.

Benefits of Building a Shed With Plastic Lumber

Maintaining wood can be expensive, time consuming and a great effort, which are just a few of the reasons why it makes more sense to use plastic instead.

Plastic recycled lumber has many benefits over natural wood and it will not splinter, warp, crack or rot. Recycled lumber is also denser than wood and requires very little maintenance, and will last for more than forty years. Being resistant to UV rays, graffiti and stains, pleasing to the eye and available in a variety of different styles and colors are just more reasons why using recyclable plastic lumber for building a shed just makes more sense.

When considering whether or not to use recycled lumber to build a shed, it is important to remember this product requires no pre-treating before it can be used in the outdoors. One of the most attractive features of using recyclable plastic lumber is because it is made from recycled products. The lumber comes in many colors and can be dyed to emulate the appearance of natural wood. There are different grains of wood, colors and styles available and it can be used to erect a shed or to replace existing rotted wooden boards on a shed already constructed.

People elect to use recycled plastic materials on decks, patio furniture and sheds because of durability and value. Unlike wood products, recyclable plastic lumber will retain its appeal and is designed to withstand even the most sever of outdoor weather environments. Recycled plastic lumber will not bow or break, regardless of how old it is and it is lighter than wood, which means it is easier to work with.

Another benefit of using recycled plastic is the consumer's ability to order the planks with pre-drilled holes. Having the holes pre-drilled saves time and is less tedious when constructing a backyard shed and the material is not as heavy as traditional wood, which makes it extremely easy to use for whatever structure you are building. Recycled lumber planks will not experience color fading over time, which means it will always look attractive no matter how old the structure might be and you have no worries about needing to replace rotting or warped boards because of weather exposure.

You can save a lot of time and money when wanting to construct a shed, if you choose to use recycled plastic lumber. Instead of using wood to build a shed, by constructing it from recyclable plastic lumber you are doing your part to go green and using a material which has a longer life than traditional wood. Check out all the different varieties and colors available in recycled plastic lumber and you are sure to find something to suit your needs and requirements.

The Different Types of Porches You Can Add on to Your Home

Having an enclosed porch when it is screened or has permanent windows, is a wonderful way to feel like you are outdoors without having to end problems like bugs, rain or other elements. This article will describe the various types of porches that you may want to add onto your home and the different elements that go into it. Some of the options that will be discussed will be if the porch is just to be enjoyed during the summer or if it will be a four season porch. Also, the design elements like flooring and what kind of materials may be used like travertine tile or stone tile or wood flooring.

Adding additional square footage to your home by adding a porch is a great and less expensive option typically than adding on another type of room. This is especially true if you add on a simpler porch with screened enclosures rather than windows or solid walls. Once you have determined a budget, find a contractor that is familiar with doing these types of renovations and have done other porches prior to your project. When both of those are determined, you will be all set to determine what type of porch will suit you and your family's needs the best.

The type of porch you add on to your home should be greatly influenced by where you live and what the weather is like in that particular region. If you live in a warmer climate on a lake that tires to get buggy, then maybe a good screened style will do fine without needing more permanent walls. Adding a ceiling fan in a porch helps to keep the air circulating and you cool on warmer days. If you have pets and children, the flooring should be considered to be durable and easily cleaned. A great choice for that would be to install tile that will be good if it gets wet, muddy or dirty regularly.

If you live in a colder climate that has a very short summer season, then sometimes a four season porch with heating and cooling should be considered. This way, when it is cold and snowing for many months in the winter, you can still sit in a room where you feel like you are part of the outdoors while staying nice and warm inside. Many people choose to have a beautiful wood ceiling installed in their porches to bring a natural style inside the porch. With a four season porch, you can furnish and decorate as any other room without worrying about the elements damaging anything. Wood beams on a higher ceiling are also great design elements to consider if your home is in a wooded setting.

Whatever size or style of porch you decide to add on to your home, it should fit your budget and your taste. This additional square footage added to your home will also increase the value of your home as you are adding an extra room to enjoy.
