Excel Tips – 3 Ways To Protect Your Excel Formulas

In this article I want to share with you 3 ways to protect your Excel formulas.

So, you have spent a long time preparing your Excel spreadsheet solution, and I bet you do not want anyone to mess up those formulas you have so lovingly created. So, there are a few ways to protect some of those most vulnerable parts of your Excel spreadsheet.

My top 3 ways to protect your Excel Formulas !!

  1. Hide the Formulas.
  2. Lock The Cells That Contain Formulas.
  3. Hide The Formula Bar With Some Simple VBA.

1.Hide The Formulas.

This method will temporarily hide your formulas , but you will be able to use them again if you need to. It's simple and straight forward. Here we go.

Select all of the cells that contain formulas that you want to hide.

  • Home Tab – Cells Group – Format – Format Cells
  • Navigate to the Protection Tab
  • Check the Hidden option and hit OK

This does not in itself hide your formulas, you need to then protect your worksheet to ensure these settings work.

  • Select Review Tab
  • Changes Group
  • Select Protect Sheet
  • Enter a password and confirm password when prompted
  • That's all you need to do.

Try selecting the a cell that contains a formula. The formula will not be visible in the formula bar. If you want to see the formulas again simply unprotect your worksheet.

2. Lock The Cells That Contain Formulas.

The second method is to just lock the cells that contain formulas so they can not be selected or edited by users. By default all cells in a work book are locked, so you will need to unlock them all to start with.

  • Hit CTRL + A to select all of the cells on the worksheet
  • Home Tab – Cells Group -Format – Format Cells
  • Untick Locked, to unlock all of the cells on the worksheet
  • Hit OK

Now all we need to do find all of the cells that contain formulas …

  • Hit F5 to bring up the GoTo Dialog Box
  • Select Special – Formulas – Hit OK
  • All of the cells that contain formulas will be highlighted

Then we need to lock those highlighted cells …

  • Home Tab – Cells Group -Format – Format Cells
  • Navigate to the Protection Tab
  • Check the Locked option and hit OK

This does not in itself lock your formulas, you need to then protect your worksheet to ensure these settings work.

  • Select Review Tab
  • Changes Group
  • Select Protect Sheet
  • Enter a password and confrm password when prompted
  • That's all you need to do.

3. Hide The Formula Bar With Some Simple VBA

My third method of hiding your formulas is to actually hide the formula bar on the Excel worksheet. This is easily achieved by a very small piece of VBA coding or an Excel Macro.

This macro uses the Application Object and we are looking to use the DisplayFormulaBar property of it.

To use this small piece of coding, you need to insert it into a module in your Excel workbook.

  • Open Visual Basic – by hitting F11 or Developer Tab – Visual Basic – Click Modules, and Add New Module.

Here is the VBA code if you want to copy it. Just paste it into a module you have created as per the instructions above.

Sub HideFormulaBar ()

Application.DisplayFormulaBar = False

End Sub

Just as we have hidden the formula bar we can easily write some VBA to show the formula bar again

Sub ShowFormulaBar ()

Application.DisplayFormulaBar = True

End Sub

In this instance we set the Application.DisplayFormulaBar to TRUE to display the formula bar.

I use all of these methods in my Excel spreadsheets depending on which I feel is most appropriate for that project I am working on for example it maybe not always appropriate to hide the formula bar even if some calculations are still needed to be seen, so I would just hide the sensitive formulas in that case. if it is a purely visual Dashboard solution then hiding the formula bar not only gives room on the Excel display area, but it always makes for a very neat and tidy visual for the Dashboard presentation.

Ideas For Landscaping Brick

Landscaping brick come in various colors, shapes, and sizes for every need. It can transform any landscape with classic charm, with little effort and cost. It also makes any landscaping design come together, and may solve other problems you can encounter. Landscaping brick could turn any grassy area into a homeowners dream. It is not only attractive, but it is durable and will last for a very long time. The ease of maintenance is a big positive as well, keeping your home improvement looking as good as the day you installed it.

To transform any backyard into a wonderful entertainment area try adding a brick patio. It’s easy for anyone to build. To construct a patio, all you will need is brick and mortar, patience, and some time. You can decide which way to lay them, perhaps in a row all in the same direction. A basket weave design is also another wonderful idea and will give your project a distinctive creative look. To do this you will need to alternate the brick in a vertical and horizontal way, creating a wonderful design in the pattern.

For many years landscape brick materials have become one of the most commonly used items in gardens. You can utilize them to border your flower garden or to build a small retaining wall around your flowerbed. They are also a big support with water gardens. You can use the brick to encase the area around the water, which will add warmth and increased stability to the water feature.

Crushed brick over time will eventually sink into the ground. To help prevent this from happening line the bottom of the walkway with landscape fabric. You can do the basket weave with this idea as well depending on the other features in this area. You will be sure to get many compliments on your design.

What Other Areas Can Brick Help Out?

Brick is a great way to line flower beds or any areas that do not have an edge by creating wonderful borders. Try using it on high traffic areas where grass has a tendency to wear out. You want to create visual attention to catch peoples’ eyes. The one advantage it has is that it can be laid flat or even stacked, and is easy to mow over to create that clean finished look.

Landscaping brick can be found at just about any building or garden supply center. Old ones found lying around can be cleaned up to look as good as new by using a brush, some soap and water, and a little effort. This is a wonderful way to save money on your project.

Small Fireplaces – Gel Fuel, Electric, Wall Mounted or Digital?

Although most of today's homes no longer rely on a fireplace for heating purposes, they are still in high demand. Fireplaces will always have a special allure. The vision of cozying up in front of a roaring fire, mug of hot chocolate in hand, while snow falls gently outside the window or sitting in front of a rippling fire while you and your beloved spend a romantic evening together are two appealing scenarios that may come to mind when thinking of a fireplace. If you live in a small home, apartment or condominium, you may not have the luxury of a built-in fireplace. However, today you can purchase a fireplace that would fit into even the smallest of spaces. There are various options to choose from.

These include:

  • Virtual / Digital fireplaces
  • Compact fireplaces
  • Wall-mounted fireplaces
  • Tabletop fireplaces

Whatever your style leans more toward modern, contemporary or anywhere in-between, one of the above-mentioned fireplaces would suite it perfectly.

Electric or Gel Fuel Fireplaces

When looking into purchasing a fireplace for your small space, you will discover that some use gel fuel and others electric. The advantages are both eco-friendly, do not require venting or special hook-ups and are clean and odor-free. However, you may want to consider the cost and convenience of both before making a particular small space fireplace purchase.

Gel Fuel

Each gel fuel can lasts approximately 3 hours. They come in a case of twenty-four and cost $ 65 on average. By doing the calculations, it can be determined that one case of gel fuel will last around 72 hours. Due to the cost, most retailers will inform you that small fireplaces that run on gel fuel are mainly for decorative purposes rather than heating.

Electric

The advantage of purchasing a small fireplace that runs on electricity is the ease of use. It is also unnecessary to spend your valuable time (not to mention gas), to make trips to the store to get what is required to keep the fireplace going. The disadvantage is that your electric bill may increase significantly. However, this can be remedied by monitoring the amount of time the fireplace is in use.

Virtual / Digital Fireplaces for Small Spaces

Many may not consider a virtual fireplace as a serious fireplace option. However, before it is written off completely, it should be noted that today's technology has bought the virtual fireplace a long way from the mock fireplaces of yesteryear. Today's virtual fireplaces are basically a DVD that you put into your television or personal computer that creates a realistic illusion of a crackling fire. The DVD loops around and plays continuously until you turn it off.

Depending on your expectations, you may find yourself disappointed either by the quality of the video or that it is just not "real" enough for you. However, a virtual fireplace is perfect for small spaces. If you have room for a television or computer, you are already one step closer to having a fireplace. It may only be a facsimile of the real thing, but it is worth looking into if you have limited space and you want to add an ambiance of romance or the cozy cozy that adds a room.

Compact Fireplaces Made for Small Spaces

A normal size fireplace is around 40-50 inches wide. Those in the range of 25-35 inches wide would classify as a compact or small fireplace. Most traditional fireplaces are available only in floor models. Compact fireplaces are wonderful space savers as many are designed as corner units.

Wall-Mounted Fireplaces Perfect for Small Spaces

Wall-mounted fireplaces obviously take up no floor space. For that reason alone, a wall-mounted fireplace would have considered the ultimate in space saving design. If your style in décor is traditional, you may have difficulty finding a wall-mounted fireplace to suite your taste as most have a contemporary look and feel. However, as wall-mounted fireplaces increase in popularity, it is probable that the selection will grow offering more variety in design.

Tabletop Fireplaces Uniquely Designed for Small Spaces

Tabletop fireplaces are in one word "unique". If you are not wanting a floor model or wall-mounted fireplace, but you desire a small fireplace that is not only fun, but also out of the ordinary, then a tabletop fireplace may be just what you are searching for.

From a smokeless glass-fire tabletop fireplace made specifically to enhance the view of the dancing flames to a contemporary tabletop fireplace with stainless steel logs mounted on a slate base, these small scale fireplaces are miniature works of art that are bound to be great conversation starters .

Today, there are various options to choose from to have a cozy romantic fireplace in even the smallest of spaces. From compact, wall-mounted, tabletop, to a virtual / digital fireplace, there is sure to be one to suite any home or even office décor.

Spray on Insulation – The Energy Efficient and "Green" Alternative Insulating Material

If you are someone who cares a lot about the environment and really wants to live a more "green" lifestyle, then the first place you must start is in your own home. It can get kind of expensive trying to start out your environment friendly lifestyle, however some changes can save you tons of money in the long run. One of these is by using something called spray on insulation.

By using this type of insulation, you will not only save yourself money over the long haul, but you will also be helping to save the planet. This insulation is made from recyclable materials.

The majority of homes were built using fiberglass insulation which is the commonly seen pink puffy insulation that you are probably familiar with. Unfortunately, this type of insulation has known health concerns. For instance, the small sharp particles that float in the air around this insulation can scrape and damage your esophagus and lungs if inhaled.

Because this spray on insulation comes as a liquid and expands to make times its normal size, it fills in every crack and crevice. This means that no air is getting in or out through those holes. It also means more protection from moisture and insects. You will save money just from pest control alone!

Learning how to be more energy efficient does not have to be difficult. You just need to take it a step at a time. By beginning with your own home, you will be making a small contribution to society overall. If everyone takes the same step to making their home more energy efficient, it will reduce our need for fossil fuels.

Emphasis and Balance in Interior Design

Emphasis in interior design can be used to draw one's eyes in a particular direction or to a specific detail. For example, if you are working with a room that has a low ceiling vertical stripes can be introduced so as to make the room seem taller. Vertical stripes will draw the eyes upwards and therefore create vertical emphasis or also known as stress in a design. Alternately, the use of horizontal stripes would create horizontal stress or emphasis and draw the eyes around the room. Think about wooden moldings such as picture rails and dado rails which are often introduced into a scheme to break up large wall spaces. These kind of details although often subtle can have a major impact on your design.

Another factor to consider when planning an interior design scheme is that of contrast as without it any scheme would be bland and boring. By consciously choosing contrasting elements such as plain and patterned textures or by combining modern styling with antique furnishings, the details will often complement each other theby intensifying prominent characteristics of your design. Choosing contrasting details is the same as choosing contrasting colors and they key to success is getting the balance right.

Symmetrical balance in interior design occurs when one side of a scheme is the same as the other side but in reverse. Symmetrical balance is often seen in classical interiors which due to its more formal styling ratios heavily on proportion, symmetry and balance. Whilst such a scheme would obviously be well balanced, it can be deemed safe and therefore somewhere boring.

Asymmetrical balance is the opposite of the above. In this type of scheme objects on either side of the room would be different in proportion, size and layout. This type of scheme creates the impression of activity and movement and often comes across as being informal and more individual in style. Since asymmetrical schemes do not follow strict guidelines they offer more flexibility but by doing so make it harder to achieve visual balance.

Radial balance occurs when a scheme is arranged around a central point or focus but is less common in interior design. Such schemes often focus on setting on a round table or floral arrangements. Radial balance suggests movement through the circular arrangements and symmetry is used t achieve overall balance. This type of scheme is more individual and can therefore cross any number of interior styles.

There are many elements to consider when planning a scheme and it can be easy to get things wrong which is why people employ interior designers. It is important to take the time therefore to plan a scheme carefully so that you can visualize the end result and achieve balance in your design.

How Amino Acids Help To Rejuvenate Your Skin

The Significance of Amino Acids And Their Anti-Aging Properties

The right mixture of amino acids provides a complete regenerative treatment for the skin, hair and nails. They ensure the vital active substances that are essential for improving the quality of hair, the strengthening of nails and increasing the skin's elasticity.

Beautiful shiny hair, strong fingernails and smooth, firm skin are characteristics of health and natural beauty. They require an adequate supply of certain nutrients and vital substances that nourish the skin, hair and nails from within. They ensure regeneration of the connective tissues, eg Collagen, Elastin and Keratin. This keeps the skin supple and elastic, the nails hard and resistant, and the hair strong and beautiful Skin And Nails.

Creatine Is Good For The Skin

Cell functions gradually slow down as part of the aging process. The skin synthesizes less and less Collagen and Elastin, leading to the typical symptoms of aging skin such as wrinkles, reduced elasticity and reduced thickness. In addition, highly reactive molecules damage the genetic material in the cells and fewer repair enzymes are produced. Scientists believe Creatine stimulates energy metabolism, which slows down as we age. This stimulation has a positive effect on cell functions and thus supports the natural mechanisms of skin functions.

Furthermore, Creatine can protect cells against external influenza by forming a water sheath around them that prevails the entry of harmful substances. The ability to form a water sheath also increases the moisture content of the skin. Creatine Consists Of Glycine, Arginine And Methionine. Creatine is an amino acid derivative that occurs naturally in the body and plays an important role in the energy metabolism of the cell. It is biosynthesised from three amino acids – Glycine, Arginine and Methionine (the latter is a component of Carnitine).

Carnitine is a quaternary ammonium compound biosynthesized from the amino acids lysine and methionine in living cells. A human body weighing 70kg contains about 120g Creatine.

More Creatine Means More Collagen

Creatine acts as a kind of energy store for times of higher energy demand. In experiments with tissue cultures, it was shown that energy metabolism could be increased by adding external Creatine. It stimulates the cells to produce not only more proteins, such as Collagen and Elastin which are important for the skin, but also enzymes that repair damaged genetic material in the cell.

Collagen provides natural beauty from within Collagen protein is synthesized by the body and bestows firmness and stability to the skin. It binds water and thus increases the skin's moisture content, allowing it to become smooth and supple. From the age of 25 onwards, our skin starts to age and the proportion of collagen in the skin is gradually reduced. By comparison, the remaining collagen is not as effective.

Collagen is an important moisturizing factor in the skin and is particularly effective when it can act directly from within. In conventional treatments, collagen is regularly injected into the skin. But who wants to suffer in order to be beautiful? A much kinder and more natural way is to stimulate the body to produce its own collagen. This requires the amino acids glycine and arginine as well as Carnitine.

The Skin As A Mirror Of The Metabolism

In general, amino acids are like skin care from within. The skin is a sensitive and extremely reliable early warning system. Its appearance reflects the state of the metabolism. Allergic reactions, inflammations and pale skin with poor blood circulation are all physical signs signaling imbalances in the body's metabolism. Many studies particularly those of recent years, have demonstrated the importance of amino acids for healthy hair and firm skin.

Glutamine For Firm Skin

Glutamine is the most frequently occurring amino acid and is biosynthesised by the body, however, the quantities become insufficient with age. Glutamine plays a highly important role in protein synthesis. If there is not enough available, the organism takes protein from the body's muscle mass and converts it into glutamine and energy. As a consequence, muscle proteins are lost, muscle strands become thinner and the skin becomes less firm.

Almost like a plant, people tend to dry out and wither as they age. In this respect, glutamine is an excellent anti-aging supplement and some scientists refer to it as the internal fountain of youth, not without reason.

Carnitine Is important for firm skin as it plays a significant role in fat burning

Increasing the Carnitine level accelerates fat transport so that more can be oxidised for energy. As a fat burner, Carnitine can thus make an important contribution to weight control. It is an important component of fitness and wellness programs and helps to ensure long-term weight loss.

The essential anti-aging ingredients that can help directly or indirectly in the biosynthesis of the above and the long term health of your skin.

The main components are amino acids (see below) however as part of the mix there is a natural vitamin complex containing Vitamins A, B1, B2, Nicotinamide, Pantothenic Acid, B6, Biotin, Folic acid, B12 and Vitamin C.

There is also a natural mix of Sodium, Potassium, Magnesium, Calcium, Manganese, Iron, Copper, Zinc, Phosphorous, Chloride Iodine and selenium and glucose.

All these combined with the amino acids help to promote Long Term Benefits.

Suspended Timber Floors

The majority of older houses in Britain have suspended timber floors (also known as hollow floors) in the ground-floor rooms. However, during and after the Second World War, timber became scarce and restrictions were placed on its use and availability, so other forms of construction were employed. The solid floor was introduced as a suitable and economic alternative at ground level.

Suspended timber ground floors

A suspended timber ground floor consists of a number of boards sometimes tongued-and-grooved – or sheets of man-made boards such as chipboard or plywood, laid over and supported by timber joists. The joists are 400mm to 600mm apart and are supported by 100mm x 50mm timber wallplates which are in turn supported by the main walls of the building, or by sleeper walls built up from a layer of concrete beneath the house, or by a combination of the two. To prevent the timber floor from absorbing any moisture, the wallplates are bedded on top of a suitable damp-proof course.

Suspended timber upper floors

Like suspended ground floors, upper floors consist of timber boards or sheets of man-made board laid over and supported by timber joists. Suspended timber floors which are not at ground level are often called single floors because the joists bridge a single span they run from wall to wall.

As it is not possible to give additional support to upper floors by using sleeper walls, the joists of single floors are bigger than those of hollow ground floors and usually bridge the narrowest span – often across the narrowest part of the room. If the joists bridge spans greater than 4.0m, timber or steel cross-members (called binders) may be used to give intermediate support. Joists in a single floor tend to flex, so rows of struts may be laid across the floor between the joists to make the floor stiffer.

The ends of the joists may be built into the walls, or supported by joist hangers built into or fixed on to the face of the wall. If the joist end is built into the wall, this part should be treated with preservative to protect it from decay.

The ceiling of the room underneath the floor is usually lath-and-plaster or plasterboard fixed to the underside of the joists. Plasterboard may have a plaster ‘skim’ finish.

Solid ground floors

The cross-section of a solid floor consists of a number of layers of different materials.

The first layer is 100 to 150mm of consolidated hardcore com¬posed of crushed stone and clean broken bricks. This is to level out any unevenness in the ground caused by the excavation and to provide a firm and level base for the floor slab.

A 50mm-thick layer of fine ash, sand or weak mix concrete is laid over the hardcore to bind the surface. This blinding will also give a smooth even surface for laying the damp-proof membrane on. The damp-proof membrane should never be laid directly on to the hardcore – it may puncture.

The damp-proof membrane may be placed above or below the floor slab. In the latter case, the DPM will keep the floor slab free from moisture. A wide range of materials are suitable as DPMs: hot and cold poured bitumen, asphalt, epoxy pitch compounds and 1000-gauge polythene sheeting.

The floor slab (concrete) can vary in thickness from 100 to 150mm and have one or two layers of mesh reinforcement, depending on the area of the floor and its intended use. The concrete slab may have a cement screed laid over its surface, depending on what type of floor finish is to be used.

To provide extra insulation, 50mm sheets of expanded polystyrene can be added between the slab and the screed.

Fireplace Accessories – Things You Need

Fireplaces are becoming extremely popular, not so much for heating the home, but for recreational purposes. This popularity is providing an explosion of fireplace accessories , equipment and safety equipment. A visit to any home improvement store will reveal an almost mind blowing array of choices that are available for fireplaces today. So, how do you choose, how do you know what you need and what is essentially fluff?

There are some items that are a must to have if you are using a fireplace in any capacity. These fireplace accessories include; a wood cradle, heat resistant gloves, a fireplace screen and pokers to name a few. Great, now you know what you need, but what exactly are they for and how do you know which ones are the best picks for you?

A wood cradle is an important fireplace accessory if you are carrying your wood through your house before it reaches the fireplace. This nifty little device is available in a variety of styles, colors and materials. It does just as the name suggests, it is a place to store the wood until it is burned. Because it has a cradle shape, it keeps the annoying little pieces of bark that falls off of the wood from becoming embedded in the flooring that surrounds the fireplace.

The next set of essential fireplace accessories falls into the important category of safety. When dealing with fire, safety should be the first concern. Using fireplace accessories such as gloves and pokers will help you to keep your hands, arms and fingers safe when working with the fire. While the fireplace screen keeps people, especially kids and pets a safe distance from the fire.

A good place to find a selection of fireplace accessories is at a home improvement store. They generally have a large enough assortment of supplies to give you a choice, but not so many as to confuse you. However, if you are looking for both selection and a knowledgeable staff, visit a fireplace specialty store. These stores are staffed with people who can answer any of you questions on which gloves protect the best to what kind of firewood burns hottest.

Another great way to decide which fireplace accessories interest you the most is to visit friends and family that have active fireplaces and see what they are using. Do not be afraid to ask if you can build a fire with their tools and equipment, get a feel of working with the accessories before you purchase your own.

Magic Tricks Revealed – How to Design Your Own Magic Tricks

You know what separates a great magician like Chris Angel or David Blaine from an ordinary one? They take a basic magic effect and design it into a master illusion. Now you can be the next Chris Angel. All you need to understand is basic magic design.

Most people think that there are thousands of magic tricks out there. In reality there really are not that many. According to Dariel Fitzkee, author of The Trick Brain, there are only 19 basic effects which govern all magic tricks and illusions.

All nineteen of those basic effects rely on some form of magical apparatus. Sometimes the items are real but the majority of the time the items are tricked or faked to accomplish some magical effect.

It has been my experience that there are only three basics that govern how all 19 magical effects work. All magic tricks are made up of one or more of the following:

1. Camouflage
Every magic apparatus from the smallest to the largest illusion makes use of camouflage. This is the most important fundamental in magic. Perhaps you want to produce a big item from a box. You can use camouflage to make the box look smaller so as to suggest the big item does not fit. Maybe a piece of apparatus has a secret pocket to make things appear and disappear, camouflage can hide the secret pocket.

2) Secret Movement
You can also make things disappear or appear or even seem to come alive with a secret movement. You see an empty box, as the magician closes the door a screen on the inside drops and when the magician opens the door again, it appears a horse, bicycle, or even an elephant has appeared. Perhaps you've also seen the recently popular trick, The Floating Card. The magician spins a playing card around his body, or perhaps he floats it between his hands. The power for this comes from a small and practically invisible thread and the movement of the performers body. The whole feat loses its mystery if the audience were to suspect the actual means by which the effect is produced.

3) Mechanical Transformation
The final of the three is the mechanical design to produce a visible transformation. Perhaps you've seen a magician take a red scarf and pass it through something and it comes out blue. Sometimes a silk that changes into a cane. Torn and Restored effects also fall into this category. Perhaps you have even seen in a comedy show a clown or other performer pull out a gun and when fired a sign comes out the end that says "BANG". Tricks like Metamorphosis that are done under cover are usually governed by some sort of secret movement and are not transformations in the true sense.

By learning the three basic concepts of design, you'll be able to create and make a magical apparatus that is unique to your magic act.

After Effects Creating a Track Matte

The use of mattes dates back to long before electronic media. When I think of mattes I often picture the early 1900 black and white photo with the circular inset highlighting and highlighting the subject. Now we have track mattes, mattes that move and reveal the subject, mattes that spell part of the message.

How do you apply a matte? It's just another layer, of course! Since simplicity is our guide, create an oval matte much like one you would see framing a photograph. You can actually create a matte inside After Effects but for our friend simplicity , let's create one in Photoshop and import it.

In Photoshop create an image the same size as your After Effects composition. You really do not need to draw anything. Using the elliptical marquee tool draw the ellipse that will become your matte when you apply it in After Effects. Click on the 'Channels' pane, typically next to the 'Layers', then create a new channel using the 'create new' icon to the left of the delete icon. When you create your alpha channel the background will become solid black. Be sure white is the chosen color, choose the paint bucket tool, and click inside your selection. It will turn white; This is the 'alpha channel' area that will let your movie show through in After Effects.

I would save this file as a '.tif' type file with the default settings. That was a little bit of a side trip but After Effects and Photoshop definitely like to play together and creating alpha and getting cozy with transparency is one of your most important tools.

Now that you have your matte, import the file into After Effects. Create a composition by simply dragging the movie of your choice to the new composition icon. This will create a composition based on your movie type and length, an instant composition.

Drag the matte we created into your timeline area, making sure it is above the movie. The track matte setting and display is abbreviated 'TrkMat'; if you do not see it, the shortcut key 'F4' toggles the modes display. There is also a switch icon in lower left of your timeline panel 'Expand or Collapse the Transfer Control pane'. Transfer control is a good way of picturing this. Your matte overlay will 'control' the viewing area of your movie.

Making sure the matte file is above your movie layer, under the 'TrkMat' pane click the pull down option box and choose 'Luma'. You will immediately see your movie masked by your matte! Notice three other indicators. The 'eye' icon on the matte layer has 'shut off' and next to the name under 'source name' you see a little icon with a white ball in the center indicating this is an overlay. Similarly, your movie name now has a little icon showing the blank composition grid white gray pattern with a black ball in the center, indicating that it has a matte applied.

These are the basic steps for creating a simple matte and applying it in After Effects. What more can you do with mattes? Let's explore some more.

By the way, here's some interesting 'matte' history from Wikepedia:

Celebrity Reveals Sexual Child Abuse

In her autobiography, "Home: A Memoir of My Early Years," Julie Andrews reveals the all too often kept dark secret of sexual abuse. Andrews reveals that when she was fifteen, her stepfather, who was drunk lunged toward her saying, "I really must teach you how to kiss properly." He then kissed her full on the lips. Andrews states, "It was a deep, moist kiss – a horrible experience." He tried to repeat his endeavor to teach Andrews how to kiss properly, she fended him off. She also, installed a bolt on her bedroom door and managed to avoid being alone with him.

Andrews does not reveal if she told anyone. One might wonder if she did tell, what was done. Since she did not reveal that she told, my guess is that she did not. Not telling about the sexual abuse is a sad state of affairs, because it leaves the person, as well as others, vulnerable to being abused. Yet, this is a common response to this horrific experience.

Girls are scripted and rewarded to not cause a scene and to be cute and demur. Boys are scripted and rewarded to be strong, and to exhibit bravery in every situation. The typical child sex offender molests an average of 117 children, most do not report the offense – National Institute of Mental Health. 1988 This statistic has remained consistent for many decades.

Child sexual abuse is the greatest hidden epidemic in the world. US statistics reveal as high as 62 percent of females and 31 percent of males will be sexually violated before age 18.

"If a disease affected our children in these severe numbers we would declare a national emergency. Monies for research to find a cure would be made available immediately." States Claire R. Reeves, President / Founder / Chief Executive Office of Mothers Against Sexual Abuse – MASA

Prevention has eluded all of society, even passionate and committed prevention advocates, because society concentrates the majority of efforts absolutely on repairing the damage. Over the last several years many informative and educational books have been written about incest and child sexual abuse. That this heretofore taboo subject is being addressed is of the utmost importance to enlighten society regarding this heinous crime against our innocent children. While this terrible crime has been expounded on extensively, little has been offered in the way of preventing it.

Children, as young as two or three years old can thwart a would-be sex offender if they are
armed with the permission and knowledge. Parents need to empower their children and support them in the ownership of their bodies and their lives.

How to Set Up an In-House "No Credit Check Financing Plan" With Little Or No Cost

This is a great system that is perfect for small businesses. I have personally seen this program generate 25% – 40% increase in sales just by telling people you offer "No Credit Check Financing". This article will show you step by step the way to set it up and many ideas dealing with advertising the plan.

LEGAL DISCLAIMER
When implementing the concept discussed in this article, Customized Concepts does not inherit the responsibility of the loans being paid back, of legal issues, or of anything that results from the use of this information.

The legal disclaimer is a must. We do offer a "90 Day Financing Plan" that is guaranteed. We take care of the details and the risk. There is no risk to the merchant. This article is based on the idea. You can put many things in place to insure the loans are paid back. This will be your responsibility. We will discuss them and let you know the pros and cons.

You will need a good file management system. If you are running a business this is not really a problem. I recommend that all the paper work is scanned into your system. This allows for quick repatriation if there are any problems with the contract the customer signs.

Below is an example that does not charge the customer finance charges. There is an example on our website that has finance charges. This would qualify your program as "Same as Cash Financing". You are allowed to charge finance charges and application fees. This would create another income stream for your company but, you can not advertise "Same as Cash Financing".

The choice is up to you.

Example:

Yoshi walks in to your store and wants to buy your product or service but does not have the money and has bad credit, no credit, or just does not want to take out a loan. The item costs $ 1000. Yoshi says that is too much right now. You explain that you can offer him a "No Credit Check Financing Option". He says "Great". You and Yoshi agree on what payment schedule will fit in his budget. He forests that $ 200, every two weeks, would fit his budget.

Yoshi will then write you out five checks post dated checks for the amount of $ 200 each. Five $ 200 checks equal the $ 1000 sale price. I know there is someone saying is that legal. Yes. The law with post dating checks is very vague.

The two major things that come in to play are:

1. If the customer writes a post dated check that they know will not be good on the post dated date. This is a form of fraud. Customer is in the wrong.
2. You cash the check before the post dated date. When you and the customer agree on the payment schedule you are agreeing to cash the check on the dates stated on the contract. You are in the wrong. They can sue you for the penalies incurred and numerous other things depending on your state.

It is a good idea to keep the post dated checks within 90 days of the sale date. This is safer for you and the customer.

The check will need to be kept safe (in a safe). This will make sure that they do not fall in to the wrong hands.

Next you will need to get the filing system in order. You will need a way to let you know when the checks need to be cashed. You can do this one of two ways.

The first would be a basic folder arrangement. Create one folder for every week. Check the folders at the beginning of the week son you know what checks need to be cashed.

The second and probably preferred would be a basic program with Excel or some other spreadsheet program. This would require that you put the information in to your system, but would save the file set-up time. You will set up the spreadsheet to organize the payments by date. Check the spreadsheet every day to see what checks need to be cashed.

Here are a couple things to protect you from fraud and default on repayment.

The options below are up to your discretion. You can use one of them or all of them. The more you implement the more protection you will have that the customer will not default on the loan.

This first three are, in my opinion, a must.

1 Get a copy of the customers ID

2 Get a copy of their most recent pay check stub. You can take this one step further and verify employment. You can give the employee a call or you can send a fax to the Human Resources Department. The easiest way is to call. They can not give you much information over the phone but, they can tell you if the customer works there and if there is anything that might affect his future employment.

3 Call the bank to verify the account is in good standing.

4 Verify the Checks. If you have a merchant account that can process checks this can be simple. If you do not have verification verification you can call your provider and check pricing to get it set up. If you do not have verification verification and you do not want to pay for the service there are some other options. They are not as reliable but will work. Physically go to the bank where the check was issued and cash it. If there are not funds they will tell you or they will cash it and charge the customer an overdraft fee. DO NOT DO THIS WITH THE POST DATED CHECKS. This should only be done with checks that are not post dated. You and the customer came to an agreement that would not cash the checks until the date on the checks.

5 Verify the customers check writing history. This can be done a couple different ways. Check out National Check Network.com (NCN). You can also do a search on Google or ASK.com for "How to verify a customer check writing history". These systems can vary in cost and quality. We use NCN. This option will let you know if they have bounced checks that are outstanding, a history of writing bad check, or any check fraud in the past.

These are the basics and if want to tweak it to fit your company better, great.

We have a customizable contract on our website available for download. The form is a PDF. If you do not have a PDF editor you can go to PrimoPDF.com and convert the file to a.DOC file. This contract is free of charge and we will not ask you to give us any information. This is a great tool that will save you some time. There is no need to design your own. This is the exact form we use.

We also offer "No Credit Check Financing" that takes away the risk and is very user friendly. We implement the procedures above and guarantee the payment to the merchant. If the customer defaults we will honor the payment and we will take action to recover the monies owed. The fees involved are normally less than what it would cost you if you to set up verification verification and verification of check writing history. It is guaranteed to save you time.

Advertising

Advertise the "No Credit Check Financing" everywhere. Here are a few suggestions.

Get a sign / banner that states you have the program. We have a local company that will paint the lettering on. You can get your local sign maker to help you, too. Window appliques, appliques for your car, magnets for your car, the list goes on and on.

Change the on-hold audio so it mentions "No Credit Check Financing" and also voicemail box records. Be sure to mention the plan when you answer the phone.

Include the program on anything that your business uses for advertising.

* Yellowbook Ads
* Business Cards
* Brochures
* Website
* T-Shirts
* Vehicles
* You need to get it visible to as many people as possible.

Do a local radio commercial that states you now offer "No Credit Check Financing" This is spectacular if you can afford the media.

I hope everyone reading this did not find it a waste of time. If you can not use the information in this article please pass it on to someone who can. If you would like you can download an exact copy of this article and contract here. We will not ask for any information. I will be writing more articles in the near future. The article will be on ways that small businesses can increase their sales with various techniques. Please subscribe to my newsletter if you would like to be emailed when they are posted.

How to Get Rid of Moths the Easy and Effective Way

While moths seem harmless enough, there are actually a couple of diseases instigated by these critters. Just like all flies and mosquitoes, they tend to visit very dirty places such as sewage, gutters and moldy walls. They transfer the bacteria, germs, virus and other micro organisms that they carry from these places into your food or your walls of your home. These micro organisms can trigger a number of illnesses.

There are also cases wherein moths and their caterpillars cause skin diseases. These creatures actually have very tiny spurs on their legs, especially the larger moths. If the moth happens to land on any part of your skin, some of the spurs in their legs will stay on your pores. This may sting or lead to a case of dermatitis.

Certain species of moths are also capable of biting your skin just like ants. If you hate ants and use ant killer, you should also consider ways on how to get rid of moths. Some moths are also a lot like fleas, in that some types of moths can even feed on human blood.

The spurs in the legs of moths may also cause allergic reactions. They can trigger the excessive production of histamine that may cause difficulty in breathing, enlargement of the tongue or tonsils, swelling of the skin and lips and even blisters. Eye infection caused by hair or spurs of moths may also be experienced when it gets in contact with the eyes.

If you go the extra mile in buying ant killer, you should also consider getting a good moth repellent. The most common moth repellent used by many is the mothball. They come in packs. However, not many people like the pungent odor of these mothballs. They certainly do not want to use them in keeping moths away from their clothes. While it does a good job in keeping moths away from clothes, they also tend to make the cabinet and the clothes smell bad.

To learn how to get rid of moths, you should consider consulting the professionals. If you are already dealing with an infestation in the attic or the bedroom, it should be left to the experts to prevent moths from coming back.

The thing is, treatments really depend on what they are feeding on and how large the affected areas are. For instance if you are getting rid of fleas, you have to go beyond the infected pet. Some of the most common treatments for infestations are fumigation, use of smoke generators and use of insecticides.

There is also the problem of the eggs. While adult moths can be easily killed with the use of insecticides, the eggs are a mite more resilient. They require special insecticides that will be placed in the areas where the adult moths laid their eggs. After the initial infestation has been treated, you can proceed to the task of finding good quality moth repellents that you can stick to in order to prevent future infestations.

Just like when getting rid of fleas or buying ant killer, learning how to get rid of moths can take a lot of initial work. You have to first inspect signs of infestation and determine what species of moth has attacked your house. This way, you can really find good quality treatments that will do their job.

Just like when getting rid of fleas, make sure you also look for high quality moths pest control products. While there are many products and insecticides in the market, not all of them will really work for you.

One of the most preferred solutions for getting rid of moths is moth traps. They look like your ordinary fly trap. They are mostly used to get rid of pantry moths. To make the moth traps more effective, you can purchase pheromone squares which actively attract moths. So if you are having infestation in your pantry, this should be an ideal solution.

We can not do anything to completely stop the existence of pests. There are many ways to control them by using ant killer pesticides or natural pest killers. Getting rid of fleas , moths and ants can be easier if you know what exactly you are dealing with. Especially with moths, you have to know what the species you are dealing with is, so you have a better idea on how to get rid of the moths.
