Formula for Personal Change

Formula for Change:

Step One:

Assessment of the situation – what is true now & what are the desired goals or results

Here is the start. What is it that you want to be different? You need to discover and be very specific about what is the current situation and how do you want it to be different. To do this, use your Coach’s assessment and gather input from all interested and involved parties.

Step Two:

Learning – techniques, tools, etc.

Discover what you need to learn and how to learn it. To do this you need to talk with people. A mentor relationship may be the key to new ideas. Coaching may provide the push. Peers may have advise, opinions, or ideas that you need. Classes, books, or articles may help.

Step Three:

Practice – take action & pay attention

This is a key. You need to take action to have change come about. It does not happen by itself. Use the familiar settings to practice. Or look for new settings to try out your change.

Step Four:

Feedback – score results against goals

Always utilize your own self-analysis – check in with your self right after your practice to see if you obtained the desired results. Independent observers can also be helpful. Pick someone you trust and whose opinion you value and ask them to observe you. Then afterward ask for their feedback. Also important is to utilize your Coach’s observations and feedback.

Now based upon results you obtain and feedback, go back to either more Learning and/or more Practice. Do not be hard on yourself and keep this cycle up until you obtain your goal.

Bearpaw Boots – An Affordable Alternative to Uggs and Emus

For some time now women have been purchase Uggs and Emu boots, not only do they look stylish but they are comfortable as well. However, there are a new range of sheepskin boots available which look just as great and which are more affordable than the ranges offered by Uggs Australia and Emu Australia. The boots that we are in fact talking about are the ones known as Bearpaw boots.

If you were to go to sites such as Amazon you would soon discover that the boots that this company make are some of the most popular selling ones. Of all the styles that Bearpaw has produced the ranges which are proving most popular of all are the styles known as T410 and M410. Each pair has a suede outer lining and inside they are lined with soft sheepskin.

The natural lining in these boots as with those made by Uggs and Emu help to keep your body temperature at a constant level. Plus these boots enable moisture to escape so no matter how long you wear them for your feet remain dry, warm and cozy.

There is one difference however between these styles of boots and those made by Uggs and Emu including styles such as the Emu Bronte or Ugg Classic Crochet Tall. The boots that Bearpaw have made come with a thermo plastic rubber sole and again this helps to ensure that whilst being worn your feet remain cozy and warm inside them.

As with any style of sheepskin boots you can purchase today these ones are so comfortable that many women choose to wear them without putting socks on first. But not only have Bearpaw created a wonderful array of boots for women to wear they also have plenty of wonderful styles for children and men. However, now we will take a closer look at the two styles that seem to be proving the most popular.

1. Bearpaw Model T410 – This style of boot has an outer suede covering and the height of the boot from the arch is 12 inches. Most women tend to wear these boots with a great pair of jeans or a casual skirt and although some prefer to wear them at their full height. Other women tend to fold the top of the boots over in order to expose some of the boots best feature its sheepskin lining.

These boots are perfect for wearing in cold weather (although not wet or snowy conditions) as the rubber soles on them provide ample grip as you walk along. As well as being comfortable these boots come in a number of different colors including sand, chocolate, chestnut, and nutmeg and of course black.

2. Bearpaw Model M410 – Again this style of sheepskin boots has a suede outer lining, but the length of these is slightly less than the T410 version. In fact the height of this particular boot is only 10 inches in length from the arch of it. As with the other style we discuss in this article these look great worn with jeans or even a long denim skirt of Boho skirt.

Again these boots come with the rubber soles so that the offer you plenty of traction when you wear them and even in cold weather, although not wet or snowy they are suitable. What makes these particular boots stand out from the ones we have mentioned as well as the similar styles created by Uggs and Emu is you have more choice of colors. Along with the neutral colors like sand, black, chestnut and chocolate this range comes in Light Pink and Navy.

If you do purchase a pair of Bearpaw boots then before you wear them for the first time it is a good idea to use a good quality suede protector on them. There are plenty of different ones now available and using this will help to main the look and feel of your Bearpaw boots.

Ingredients of Your Chinchilla Dust Bath

Although rain rarely visits the dry and rocky environment of the Andes Mountains in South America, wild chinchillas have adapted and managed to make the most out of their environment. For the various succulents covering the area alone, these have evolved in such a way that whenever precious water is available, either growing vast roots underground to soak every drop, growing very close to the ground for immediate access, or storing the water in their juicy flesh. For wild chinchillas, eating some succulents replaces drinking. And since water is hard to come by, grooming includes bathing in the fine sand and ash scattered about.

Since many chinchillas have been bred in captivity and domesticated, companies and pet owners have tried to mimic aspects of their natural habitat by providing them with a variety of special chinchilla dust baths available in pet stores.

Chinchilla’s fur is rich and thick, helping them insulate their bodies against extreme temperatures, protecting their sensitive skin from bacteria and parasites. Unlike other domestic animals, you cannot wash your pet chinchillas with water or shampoo. Their skin is prone to bacterial and fungal infection with moisture. This is why, even when in the wild, chinchillas roll in fine dust to clean. Chinchilla dust is formulated in such a way that it does not dry out your pet’s coat, only absorbing and stripping away excess oil, dirt, and moisture.

Most chinchilla dust baths available in the market today usually have the vague phrase “natural chinchilla dust” written under the ingredients portion of the label. In the wild, the dust they roll around in is composed of either fine volcanic ash or eroded pumice rock found in the area; or a mix of both. Some products are made of grounded pumice rock. The “Chinchilla Bath Sand” product claims that it is made entirely out of “100% Natural Volcanic Mountain Pumice found in the Andes Mountains.” The tagline also includes that such an ingredient is “dust free” lessening the trouble of dust flying around during bathing time.

For other products like “Sun Seed Sunthing Special Chinchilla Dust Bath”, the product lists ‘Fuller’s earth” as an ingredient. This is a mineral that is known to be capable of absorbing oil, moisture, and other impurities; also added in some cosmetics, powders and pharmaceuticals. Interestingly, movie sets also use the powdered mineral to simulate larger and cheaper explosions. For other uses in pet care, the ingredient is also known to be in cat litter and other pet powders.

Other possible ingredients put in the mix of chinchilla dust include either a portion of really fine sand or fragrances. Be wary of cheap knock-offs that are only made of sand as this doesn’t really do a good job in cleaning your pet chinchilla. The Kaytee and Pet Scentsations brands offer various chinchilla dust baths with scents ranging from melon, to raspberry and vanilla. Other brands state their products to be environment-friendly and all-natural. These are great considerations in choosing the perfect chinchilla dust variety for you.

Chinchilla dust is usually affordable depending on the size you require or would like to keep in stock. Prices range from approximately $4 (for about 30 ounces) to about $30 (for a big sack of over 60 pounds of dust). Many pet owners usually try a variety of products to see which best suits the chinchilla they have.

Knowing what exactly is in the chinchilla dust bath you buy helps in understanding your chinchilla and its basic needs even better. And just like any good consumer, it pays to be on the look-out for only the best products available for your pet.

Keyless Door Locks – The Advantages and Disadvantages of These Type of Door Locks

Keyless door locks are becoming more and more popular. No longer will you have to hunt for your key or fumble with a key in the middle of the night. As with all products, there are advantages and disadvantages of these kind of locks.

Keyless Door Locks: Advantages

You used to always have to worry about locking your keys in the house. With keyless door locks you do not have to worry about that anymore. And you do not have to worry about losing your key. You just enter your key code and your door unlocks. One of the best advantages is that you can let a repair man enter your home when you are not there. They enter your home, do what they need to do and leave. You get to change the code and they can not copy a key when you do not have one.

Keyless Door Locks: Disadvantages

There are two main disadvantages of these type of locks. One: someone could guess your key code and get into your house. If you choose completely random numbers then this should not happen. Do not choose your birthday or cell phone number. Two: If the power goes out, and your lock is purely run on electricity, you could have locked out of your house. But, if its run on a battery than you should be ok.

Keyless Door Locks: Remote Entry

There are remote entry locks. They have the disadvantages of losing it or forgetting it in the house. They can not be copied like keys can be. If you lose the remote it will cost quite a bit to replace, seeing as they are quite expensive.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Laminated Glass

Those of you already have a home security system INSTALLED may be looking to beef up your security level even more by installing laminated glass in your windows. Laminated glass is also referred to as security glass and is designed to keep burglars from breaking into houses through windows. It is much harder to break than is regular glass, which is why it is so attractive for people who want to take their home security system to the next level.

As with any security component, there are advantages and disadvantages to installing laminated glass. Before you make the decision to replace all your regular glass windows with security glass, be sure to consider these pros and cons to ensure you are making the right decision for your needs.

Advantages:

• Security. This is the biggest reason why people want to install laminated glass. It is simply harder to break and therefore more secure.

• Safety. In the event that a child in your home throws something that hits your window, it is less likely to break. Therefore, the child is safer.

• Sound reduction. Laminated glass does not allow as much sound to get through as does regular glass, meaning your home will be quieter because there will be fewer outside sounds getting through.

• Protection from adverse weather conditions. People who live in areas that are prone to hurricanes or tornados can rest assured that the laminated glass will be less susceptible to wind and hail.

• Durability. Laminated windows will need to be replaced less often than regular glass windows. It simply lasts longer.

Disadvantages:

• Expense. Laminated windows are quite a bit more expensive than regular windows. This is because they require a lot more steps during the manufacturing process and because they have several layers of material. You might only be able to replace one or two windows at a time, gradually replacing all of them over time due to how much they cost.

• Not a whole lot of manufactures exist. This not only drives the cost of laminated windows up, but also limits your choices. In addition, you might have to wait a few weeks before your windows are made, which can leave you vulnerable at the time.

There are many good reasons for installing laminated windows, including the fact that your home security system will be more effective as a result. However, there are a few disadvantages that you need to consider before spending your money on this expensive product.

Different Types Of Kitchen Cupboard Doors

The first thing you need to know before you purchase kitchen cupboard doors is what material it's made of, what edging will be used on the edges of the door and what finish it will be sprayed, wrapped or manufactured in.

There are five main finishes that cabinet doors are manufactured in. They are PVC vinyl Wrap, veneer, melamine chipboard, Duco spray and solid wood. Solid wood is the most expensive of the five hanging on the type of solid wood you would choose. Pine is obviously much cheaper that any of the other wood types. PVC vinyl wrap is a very common use of bathroom cabinets as well as bedroom and kitchen cabinets. The benefits of PVC vinyl wrap is that the edge of the doors do not pull loose very easily due to the glue that sticks the vinyl to the doors. The core of the door also has to be Supawood so that the edges of the door can be cut out while leaving a smooth finish. Cutting and painting the edges on a chipboard door will not work as the chipboard is far to brittle and will chip away very easily leaving the edged looking very rough.

Veneer doors are more common on kitchen cupboards and can be edged with fleece edging, 1mm-12mm solid impact edging. Impact edging is also used on melamine chipboard doors and is very durable. I normally recommend using impact edging on kitchen cupboards if the client has a flat he or she wanted to renovate and place tenant in. Tenants do not always look after your flat so it would be wise to opt for a more rugged and durable edging on the doors. Lastly we have Duco sprayed doors. This kind of finish is very expensive and not always as unforgiving as PVC vinyl wrap. Although both Duco and vinyl wrap can be finished in a high gloss PVC vinyl does not scratch as easily and scratches can even be polished out to a certain degree if the scratch is not too deep. PVC wrap doors are also almost 50% cheaper than Duco doors. The benefit of Duco sprayed doors is the incredible high gloss finish you get on it. It's almost as if you're looking in a mirror when you look at the door.

In closing. Some doors are cheap and some are expensive but remember if you're going to spend the next 15-20 years in your new kitchen get what you like and not only what fits into the budget. If you have to put Formica work tops in for now but can then afford the doors of your dream do it. You can always remove the Formica tops and replace them with Granite or Solid wood at a later stage.

You Gave Me What I Asked for But Not What I Wanted! (Part 1)

Picture the following scenario: You're the project manager ready to deliver the new system your team has been developing for the past two years. Millions of dollars have been spent during those two years to gather requirements, define the system, build an architecture and models, create a work breakdown structure and project schedule with resource allocation, build the system components, integrate, test, validate, fix problems and finally the day is at hand: delivery. You deliver the system with great fanfare and you are confident the system will deliver as promised: greater efficiencies, cost savings, improved customer service, and increased revenue.

Your systems engineering team did an amazing job collecting and vetting requirements from the users, customers, and even the "C-Suite" crowd. Everyone agreed the requirements were well defined and prescribed what the system should do. Your enterprise and systems architects defined the architecture against the requirements, built models of the system, and re-vetted them with stakeholders. A final design was developed and was handed off to the development team to implement. The development team tested their components worked and validated them against the requirements. Once any discrepancies were fixed and regression tested, the systems components were handed to the integration team to "stich" everything together. Again, more testing and validation are completed, problems fixed, regression testing completed, and the system is packaged up for delivery to the stakeholders. Your work is done, and a promotion and a raise will certainly be in the offing for pulling off such a complex project.

Exception … it quickly turns into a disaster. The users start using the system and find it's not doing what they thought it would do. Processes are radically different, data management requires a new set of skills, some people find themselves overburdened with activities while others are now idle, the newly formed help desk is swamped with calls and trouble tickets, customer service takes a beating, and the C- Suite quickly finds out about the mess you delivered. They order the system be taken down immediately and fixed. Instead of that promotion and raise, you're looking at the real possibility of termination and no income at all. What you quickly learn doing a "post mortem" on the project is a very common problem in requirements gathering and management: the stakeholders will say, "You gave me what I asked for, but it's not what I wanted!" Somehow, the project management and systems engineering roles should have been described as "being able to read minds" rather than collect, structure, and vet requirements for a system. But was it the inability to read minds or the process that replied in this fiasco?

Before I go on, I want to quickly define what I mean by "system." Most people reading this article will assume I'm talking about software. In many cases, the system that fails to meet customer expectations is a new software capability. In business, these systems can be bespoke applications developed for a very specific capacity; In many cases, it can be an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution based on applications from SAP, Oracle / Peoplesoft, or Microsoft Dynamics, to name some well-known ERP solutions. However, a system can be anything: an airplane, a ship, a spacecraft, a car, a power generation plant, medical devices … really, anything that meets the definition of "a set of interacting or interdependent components forming an integrated whole . " Think of non-software-based systems that failed to deliver as promised or processed delays and cost overruns: The Ford Edsel and Pontiac Aztec, which had market failures (requirements developed in a market vacuum), the Airbus 380 and Boeing 787 (requirements and implementation mismatch), and the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS), to name a few.

Now that I've defined what a system is, I want to return to the fictitious, but very familiar, story I crafted for the introduction to this article. I posited the question of whether project managers and systems engineers need to read minds or should have changed the process to avoid the disaster. Well, it turns out that mind reading is not a prerequisite for either of these positions. What could have avoided the problems is employing chaos theory and emergence as the approach to systems development. These theoretic constructs are what drive Agile development, which I will provide an overview on how Agile methods work and their implementation.

Agile development, which includes such techniques as Scrum, eXtreme Programming (XP), and Design Systems Development Method (DSDM) are rooted in the idea that the end users must be involved in the entire development process, and that nobody really knows what the end state of the system will look like: the end state emerges from the entire process. This article will not discuss how to implement an Agile process; rather, it will describe some key aspects of the approach and why it works.

Agile methods are fundamentally designed to facilitate communication between all the stakeholders in a project. The processes encourage teams to develop as self-organizing systems, with people assuming roles based on their strengths and interests. Communication is facilitated with "information radiators" that have team members post their progress and issues in a "war room" planning board with Post-It notes. It also recognizes that end-users of the system are both instrumental in the development and do not really know what they want until they see it. That encourages the development of small, incremental solutions to a problem, rather than a monolithic solution that often does not satisfy anyone.

It is the antithesis of how organizations typically operate, because there is a great deal of unpredictability in what the final system will look like and the apprehensive lack of control during the development process. Further, Agile processes tend to have sparse documentation: "ornamental" document deliverables, which provide no value value to the team's ability to develop and deliver a solution are almost entirely eliminated; Much of the text-based documentation are replaced by diagrams, models, and storyboards. Metrics that are grouped are more focused on keeping the team aware of what has been completed and what is in the pipeline rather than the classic Gantt chart progress reports and earned-value data that management is always focused on. Instead, daily "stands" are held: these are short meetings with all the team members to discuss three things: accomplishes, today's objectives, and roadblocks / problems that need to be addressed. The team members include the developers, and end-user representative, testers, user experience developers, and testers.

The focus is on delivering small, incremental pieces of functionality rather than large, monolithic solution. Remember: the users are getting things done without any new systems, so even small improvements in their operations will be appreciated. And because they helped develop it, they will be vested in its success. The interesting piece is that there's no prediction on what the final product will do: as needs change, people change, and missions change, the incremental approach allows the system to evolve as it's developed. With this approach, the problem of "You Gave Me What I Asked for But Not What I Wanted!" is a thing of the past.

In Part 2 of this article, I will discuss why an Agile, incremental, and adaptive approach works, why the old ways of doing business fail so often, and how to sell the approach to a C-suite staff that wants a predictable end- state, lots of meters along the way, and reams of documentation.

The Importance of Cooling Systems for Electronics

As electronic equipment has advanced, so has the need for effective cooling systems in order to keep processes running optimally. With devices generating high levels of both heat and sound, products such as the fan tray assembly and anti vibration mounts have become even more advanced, with a number of different products on the market to meet all kinds of customer needs.

The problem of overheating can be common when it comes to PCs and laptops, yet the situation can become a lot worse in the case of electronics that are operating in cabinets or other enclosed spaces, with the reduced airflow dramatically raising temperature. The installation of an adequate cooling fan or fan tray assembly is therefore essential for keeping temperatures at reasonable levels.

So, just why is overheating so bad and why are cooling systems so useful? There are numerous reasons why installing a fan system is a good idea, some of which will be explored below.

Firstly, if electronic equipment heats up too much, it can simply cut out in order to cool down. This is not only a major inconvenience, but can actually cause serious damage to the equipment components too. It should also be noted that overheated equipment can be a serious fire hazard, which is not good in either the home or the workplace.

Overheating can also cause electronics to function more slowly, even if they do not stop working completely. This is because in-built fans may be working exceptionally hard at keeping temperatures down due to elevated levels of heat. A solution would be to add a fan tray assembly or other cooling fan system in order to provide adequate levels of cooling.

Fans that are working too hard to lower high temperatures can also cause a great deal of noise. This can be at best distracting, and at worst unbearable, especially in the workplace where there is a large amount of electronic equipment. Again, adequate cooling systems such as a fan tray assembly can stop fans striving to keep temperatures down and keep noise at an acceptable level.

Another factor touched on above is that critical components of electronic equipment may be damaged if exposed to elevated temperatures. As all electronic components have maximum temperature ratings, overheating caused by insufficient cooling can cause serious damage to essential and costly equipment.

There are many ways to avoid all the negative effects of overheating – and the main one is prevention. The easiest way to do this is by keeping electronics in a cool environment that is well-ventilated so that temperatures do not rise to a dangerous level, running the risk of the problems listed above.

Installing a cooling fan system or fan tray assembly is one way to keep areas well ventilated and air circulating sufficiently in order to keep electronics from overheating. Heat produced by these devices will dissipate a lot faster if the surrounding air is cooler, meaning temperatures are kept in an acceptable range.

In addition to installing the right equipment it is important to keep it well-maintained. Cleaning the cooling fan system regularly will help the fan operate optimally, ensuring that in turn your electronics are kept at a reasonable temperature for efficient functioning. Regular cleaning will clear out all dust and fluff that will impair fan functioning and pose a potential fire hazard.

For personalised advice on which cooling fan systems or fan tray assembly products are appropriate for your electronics and their particular installation and use, it is always best to consult with a specialist designer and manufacturer of these products.

With their expert knowledge, you will be able to create an environment that ensures optimal functioning of your electronic equipment and minimises risk and potentially costly damage.

Frankenstein Halloween Costumes – Choose a Classic Scary Costume

A Frankenstein Halloween costume is a classic costume for Halloween that never goes out of style. Frankenstein is the most well known and identifiable classic science fiction character that is as scary and frightening today as it was 50 years ago.

Frankenstein is the monster in the famous Mary Shelley novel. The monster elicits a whole range of feelings from horror, fear and disgust to compassion, curiosity and kindness.

People are probably more familiar with the Frankenstein monster than the timeless Hollywood films than from the book. The Frankenstein monster is the huge creature with the green head, flat skull and bolts in the neck. The Frankenstein costume is an ill fitting t-shirt and jacket with ragged pants and heavy black boots.

If you do not want to wear a mask, you can use a Halloween make up kit to construct a really scary monster. Color your face green. Create the suture line on the forehead and cheek. Color in the dark black circles around the eyes.

The costume comes alive when you add the well known clumsy unsteady gait with the arms held out straight in front. Add some grunting and you will have captured the essence of the Frankenstein monster.

There is also the comical side of the Frankenstein monster personified by Herman Munster in the classic 1960s TV show, The Munsters. The overall look is the same as Frankenstein but with a dose of humor instead of terror.

If you are going to a Halloween party or just out to Trick or Treat with some friends, consider going as the classic trio: Frankenstein, Dracula and Wolfman. Each is a quintessential frightening monster in their own right but together, with the right attitude, they will scare and delight all of your friends.

Porch Swing Cushions

Porch swings are increasingly becoming a welcome fixture in almost all houses. The thought of having a spot wherein one can just sort out his thoughts, have some fun time reading the daily paper, day dream and make plans for the future, in the comfort of his garden, with the wind brush against his skin and the chirping of the birds as his background is really enticing.

A porch swing is one house feature that was once considered a space – eater. Most couples as well as individuals would rather maximize the floor area of the living room, or the dining room than set up a porch swing, which they claim they would never even use. But, the past years have seen more and more this fixture being built. Why? They serve as a sanctuary when the bedroom or the entertainment room looks to be suffocating. They become a "resting place" when one can no longer find solace with the television or the radio.

Generally speaking, porch swings are built to be sat on for some period of time – they are meant to cater to a person's need for privacy, peace and quiet, for as long as he wishes. However, in the long run, the solid structure of the fixture may let itself manifest and make one feel uncomfortable – like sitting on a pile of stones or some crooked metal.

Cushions. They do spell the difference between comfort and utter dissatisfaction coupled with irritation. These add – ons allow provide for a softer and more cozy feel to the fixture as they balance the hard feel of the fixture. Porch swing cushions allow one to shift from one position to the other without giving someone a scratch or a breeze caused by the wood or steel when it comes in contact with the skin, as what usually happens. They also give the owner or the user a leeway on how to utilize the space and increases the activity options – one can choose whether to read while sitting, listen to classical music while lying, even do yoga! Porch swing cushions also make the fixture safer for kids who are playing around and would like to experience the outdoors as these cushions support the body and protect it as well from hard falls or sudden slips.

To buy a porch swing cushion or not? The answer is obvious. Grab the phone and make arrangements-now!

Wood Flooring or Laminate Wood Flooring – This Is the Question

Wood flooring can be a great addition to your home, but it may not be the number one choice of many contractors and building contractor. This article will look at both wood flooring and laminate wood flooring to help you decide.

The main aspects to be considered while installing hardwood floors are the general color tone (dark brown, medium brown, light brown, reddish brown, golden brown, natural or other colors); the wood floor type (solid, engineered or floating); where is the floor going to be installed (above ground level, at ground level or below ground level); what the floor will be placed on (over concrete slab, plywood sub floor, oriented strand board, previous vinyl or wood sub floor) and so on.

There are different styles of wood floorings: parquet, which is a popular series of flooring pieces arranged in a geometric design; plank hardwood flooring, which are linear and wider planks of wood; and strip, which is linear flooring that is not as wide. Engineered wood floors are also categorized as parquet (series of flooring pieces arranged in a geometric design); plank hardwood flooring (linear and wider planks of wood); and strip (linear flooring that is not as wide) styles.

They can also be very stylish in patterns like tile, realistic stones and hardwood visuals. Having originated in Europe, laminate wood floors are becoming a good alternative for hardwood in North America. Compare that to most hardwood trees and you will see the difference.

If you've always longed for hardwood floors, you're in good company. If you only know that you want hardwood floors gracing your home, read this quick and dirty guide so that your head will not spin when you talk with your contractor. If you want a home that is beautiful, if you want a home that stops people in their tracks when they walk in, then you need to put down exotic hardwood flooring.

Installation

Follow the manufacturer's instructions during the installation installation and doing it yourself is possible when installing your wood flooring. This means that you will save a pretty penny on installation fees since you can easily do it yourself. Installation guidelines are different for different kinds of wood flooring: radiant-heated sub floors, glue-down flooring, nail- or staple-down flooring, floating flooring, etc.

Just be sure to ask your floor manufacturer for specific installation instructions before you begin. The installation of hard wood flooring on your own has both pros and cons.

Wood floor installation can be made by the supplier and sometimes by the manufacture. If you are paying to have your wood flooring installed – here are some questions to be considered: how long the installation will take, if the contractor has a license and the warranties and guarantees. The cost of product – you will see cost ranges from $ 4 to $ 8 per square foot, excluding installation costs.

Methods

Nail down, staple down, glue down, and free-float are some of the different installation methods for wood flooring. In case of a plywood sub-floor, any of the installation methods can be chosen but if one has a concrete sub-floor, the nail or staple down method is certainly not recommended.

Laminate Flooring

If you are considering using laminate wood flooring in some or your own home and are wondering about the difference between laminate and wood, you may get a lot of different opinions. Laminate can be installed over virtually any surface, but wood can not be installed over some surfaces. Water-resistant glue is recommended by most laminate flooring brands.

Bamboo

Engineered bamboo-this is much like the laminate flooring. The world's best laminate flooring is available at a number of on-line retailers or your local home improvement stores. One particular choice that is increasing in popularity in North America is laminate flooring.

As with engineered and laminate woods the multi-strip planks are precision cut to make installation easier and faster. These benefits motivate many homeowners to use laminate wood flooring while renovating their homes. Laminate flooring cost less than wood flooring and also involves less installation time as compared to a hardwood floor.

In my opinion, wood flooring is great, but laminate flooring is becoming one of the fastest growing products in the flooring industry. Today's laminate floors are created using a photographic image of wood, marble, or tile that is bonded to fiberboard, backed with melamine plastic and coated with aluminum oxide. You may want to check out some samples before you take on your next wood flooring project.

Three Reasons Why Baby Squirrels Die in Captivity

Did you ever take in a baby squirrel and start to feed and care for it, then have it go downhill physically and die? You’re not alone! The following are three common reasons why baby squirrels die in captivity:

1. The Wrong Diet.

Improper diet is the number one reason why squirrels die. There’s a lot of controversy over what is the correct formula to feed baby squirrels who are still nursing. Many wild animal rehabilitators will tell you to buy an expensive puppy formula, and to never feed a squirrel cow’s milk. I’ve used the expensive puppy formula with marginal success, but recently they changed the formulation which left it lacking enough milk fat for squirrels. Now, all of a sudden, they’re telling people to add heavy cream to boost the fat content! Hello! What is heavy cream? It’s the cream from cow’s milk! The reason cow’s milk will kill a baby squirrel is because there are substances in the milk that will give a squirrel severe diarrhea. Diarrhea will lead to an electrolyte imbalance, which will lead to a heart irregularity and ultimately death from sudden cardiac arrest.

I’ve found that if you get rid of the substance in cow’s milk and cream that causes diarrhea, a baby squirrel will do just fine on a cream rich cows milk formula. But you must do one simple but vital thing to make this formula safe for squirrels! I can teach you how to make this formula and save you having to spend twenty dollars per can for puppy formula!

2. Hypocalcemia.

The second big killer of squirrels is Hypocalcemia. That’s a fancy name for low blood Calcium. Squirrels, especially in captivity, have an extraordinarily high calcium requirement. Death from low blood calcium comes after they stop nursing. While they are getting milk, their calcium needs are being met. When they quit nursing, they need a calcium supplement or they’ll develop what is called Metabolic Bone Disease. This disease is characterized by loss of calcium from the bones, especially in the spine and back legs. They start to shuffle their back legs when they walk, and progressively lose nerve and muscle control. Their bones become brittle and break easily.

Low blood calcium can also lead to heart irregularity and sudden cardiac death. A squirrel with metabolic Bone Disease is a pathetic scene! Prevention is simple! I teach a very simple way to make a dietary supplement called Nut Squares or Nut Balls that will insure optimum calcium intake and good health for squirrels.

3. Internal Injuries.

The last major killer of baby squirrels is internal injuries. Many times a found squirrel has fallen a great distance out of a leaf nest. One of the first things you should do for a baby squirrel, after you get it in a warm environment, is to check it over carefully for injuries. Babies normally have rapid respiration and heartbeats, but if a baby squirrel is having difficulty breathing or is using more than just chest muscles to breathe, it may have internal injuries. It could have broken ribs or a contused lung or heart! Blunt trauma to the abdomen can injure internal organs such as the liver, kidneys or spleen. A baby squirrel’s abdominal wall is very thin. If you see dark purple discoloration of the abdomen, that is an ominous sign that indicates internal bleeding.

There’s not a whole lot that can be done for a baby squirrel that is in that condition. A Veterinarian could evaluate the animal, but chances are, nothing would be done other than observe and support it’s breathing struggle with oxygen and a warm environment until it passes. I’ve found in my years as a Squirrel Rehabilitator that squirrels love to have their head and neck gently rubbed, it’s very soothing and calming for them. Death is a part of life. For me, holding and comforting a dying squirrel helps me realize how precious and brief life is. I find tremendous joy and satisfaction in caring for these magnificent creatures, and thank God that even in death, I can make a difference!

Muscle Building Workout – Optimize Your Muscle Building Workout Schedule

Overworking as a common error.

I can remember vividly, my muscle building schedules when I first begin. Being new to building muscles, I was excited about the muscular gains in my body every week, due to my workouts during the weeks. Noticing my growth, I decided to add on to my schedule in hopes of more gains. Never did I expect that decision to be a painful one. For the change, I headed to the gym 5 days a week without an efficient muscle building workout. (Common mistake made by beginners)

Most beginners have a muscle building workout like this

Eg Bench press, bicep curl, triceps extension, weighted pull ups, squats.

Such a workout trains every part of your body's muscles. However, they will attain minimal growth. At the beginning, you will notice growth and gain in strength. The muscles get stronger but you will stop growing very quickly. The most common reaction to the cease in growing would be to double the training schedule.

Overtraining leads to muscle loss through injuries! Muscle soreness is a sign of a tired muscle and that the muscle should be left alone to rest. Our body grows when it rests, not when it is being worked out. Our muscle tissues get damaged during workouts and they grow during the repair and recovery period. In simple terms, a good strategy towards muscle gain would be to work the muscle and to give it sufficient rest for the growth. Think about what happens if you work out every part of your muscles everyday? ALL your muscle tissues get damaged further and they'll have no chance of growing as the damaged tissues are not being repaired.

Effective muscle building workout schedule

An effective muscle building workout schedule should be one where you workout different muscles on different days. For example, (Day 1 biceps and chest) (Day 2 back and shoulders). Such routine allows the muscle with damaged tissues to repair themselves while you train other parts of your muscles. Also, rest is very important and you should always include a day of rest in between your weekly muscle building workout schedules.

Proper rest + Proper diet = Growth

Heres the simple equation for growth. If you are over working, change your workout schedules and routines. If you are following a good muscle building routine but have reached a plateau, change your diet to one with higher protein, higher calorie take but lower in fat level. I was first skeptical when I was told that I stopped growing due to over training. However, try changing your schedule and you will see the difference in weeks!

Goldfish Care – 5 Dos and 5 Don’ts

Goldfish care: 5 things you must do to keep them happy

1. Do set up their aquarium before you buy any goldfish

Don’t buy goldfish and their home in the pet store on the same day. Instead, set up the tank with gravel, decorations and a filter in good spot (one that is quiet, away from a window or radiator, and near a power supply) and fill it with water, then switch on any pumps you’re using. It takes time for chlorine and other chemicals in tap water that can harm your fish to be expelled.

2. Do consider maturing your tank in advance

A new aquarium takes time to ‘mature’; this odd word basically means that the tank filters and gravel are capable of breaking down waste before it pollutes the water. You can buy products to start this process off from the fish store. Such ‘cycling’ usually takes about two weeks, and prevents your new fish being exposed to pollution.

3. Do stock your goldfish tank slowly

Get just two fish at first (goldfish are sociable animals) and give them a week or two in the tank before buying any more fish. This gives your tank more time to mature to deal with the increase in waste products.

The very best thing you can do to keep your goldfish healthy is to regularly change some of the water. Using a siphon tube, remove about a fifth of the water once a week and replace it with new water, preferably water that you’ve left stand overnight. Changing water like this dilutes down the pollution, and adds fresh minerals to the tank.

5. Do consider buying a filter

Many people keep goldfish in tanks without filters or even air pumps. But adding a filter will greatly improve the quality and stability of the water conditions in your tank. Even an air pump will help – the bubbling improve the oxygen levels in the water, which goldfish really appreciate.

5 things you must never do when caring for goldfish

1. Don’t keep goldfish in a bowl

Yes, some people keep their pets alive for years in a bowl, but many more lead short, unhappy lives. Goldfish are inquisitive fish that like to swim about and explore. Give them a tank at least two-foot long. Also, goldfish bowls pollute easily and the design hinders the transfer of fresh oxygen into the water.

2. Don’t overfeed your goldfish

Your fish should eat all the food you add within five to ten minutes. If there is food lying about on the floor of the aquarium, you’re overfeeding. This excess food will rot down and pollute the tank.

3. Don’t overstock your tank

An aquarium can only hold so many fish before it starts to get polluted too quickly, or before the oxygen level in the water drops. A three-foot long aquarium will hold about four fully-grown goldfish happily – you can add a couple more if you must, especially if you’ve got an air pump, but it’s not advised.

4. Don’t keep standard goldfish with fancy goldfish

Fancy goldfish, such as bubble-eyes and twin-tails, are much more delicate and slower moving than standard goldfish. You’ll have fewer problems if you keep one or the other kind in the same aquarium.

5. Don’t add a heater

Some people use heaters meant for tropical fish tanks in their goldfish tanks. This isn’t just unnecessary – it can harm the fish. They will be quite happy at normal living room temperature, and in fact would probably prefer it a bit on the chillier side!
