Jeffrey Archer’s "Old Love" Redefines Love Story

The “Old Love” of Jeffrey Archer is a unique amorous tale between two brilliant students of English literature from Oxford. Archer makes an exploration of the theme of love from a completely unusual standpoint. The rendition is fiercely honest while he portrays a chronic sense of envy and rivalry between two sworn arch-rivals in the Oxford University: William Hatchard and Philippa Jameson. Initially, their aggressive competition unsettles their tutor Simon Jakes. In their constant intellectual debates, Philippa confronted the deep, confident voice of William with her high-heeled boldness. The mutual hatred was absolute. Their sharply perceptive and analytical mind refused to be submissive to each other. Indeed, this fierce sense of competition enabled them to outshine everyone else in the field. Given the background of 1930’s she, to him, was “that silly woman” and he “that arrogant man”. Yet strange is the way of destiny that an unusual love story should blossom between the bitterest of academic rivals!

This rivalry assumed an unpalatable intensity when both excelled as toppers in their final degree exam. The Charles Oldham Shakespeare’s essay writing competition fed fat to this fire of passionate jealousy and became a life and death question for each to defeat the other. There were liberal exchanges of scornful remarks between the two to play each other down. However, things took a dramatic turn when William unwittingly discovered about the death of Philippa’s father (who was a Vicar) from cancer, and also, his secret dream to let his daughter study in Oxford and win the Charles Oldham award. The sight of silent sobbing of his proud and powerful adversary stirred up a sudden feelings of empathy in his guts. He got over his tentative doubts and offered to accompany her to her village for the burial ceremony. They held hand for the first time and discovered the new bond of friendship as they started their journey to her village. They communicated with each other spontaneously while returning to Oxford which bounces Philippa back to her normal competitive spirit. She slowly discovers the growth of her new found intense attraction for William. The latter secretly enjoys this interesting conversion in the Vicar’s daughter.

The transformation of hatred into love has always been a captivating subject in itself, and Archer makes the situation entertaining with the employment of sparkling wit in their conversation. They make a visit to Stratford and have meals together. But their first date was far from usual: it is a unique blend of warmth and intellectual antagonism! If this instinctive antagonism triggered a strong sense of hatred before, now it drew them closer. In fact, this killer instinct became a delirious source of entertainment for both. Archer makes the reader question if intense hatred could indeed be an expression of hidden attraction?

Anyway, the situation takes a quirky turn while returning from Stratford. On their way back to Oxford, Phillipa and William had to spend the night in a car as the petrol gauge showed empty. The former obviously did not miss the chance of expressing her doubt about the cerebral power of a person who couldn’t even read a petrol gauge! The day next William gave her the reason why he let the car run out of petrol: He said with a rare sense of humor: “My father told me if I spent the night with a barmaid then I should simply order an extra pint of beer, but if I spent the night with the vicar’s daughter, I would have to marry her.” He came down on his knees and said,” Will you marry me if I win the Charles Oldham?” Philippa answered that “as there is absolutely no fear of that happening I can safely say, yes… ” When William declared his love for her she told him not to show his face in Somerville again if he failed to win Charles Oldham. The readers wonder if the writer reveals Philippa’s secret wish that she could marry himeven at the cost of losing Charles Oldham! Otherwise why would tears come to Philippa’s eyes when a girl informed her that she had won? It was a moment of crisis for her because between the conflicting emotion of ambition and love in her heart, the latter had won and for once the proud girl confessed, “I do love nothing in the world so well as you; is that not strange?”

However, when she discovered that William was a joint winner, her puckish spirit returned as she said ” I take thee for pity” to which William replied ” I yield upon great persuasion… ” They were locked in a passionate embrace, and after that, they were never apart for more than a few hours. Strangely, their honeymoon in Athens ended up in a heated argument over the relative significance of Doric and Ionic architecture!

Later in life, this constant battle of wit prevented their romance from dwindling into boredom and banality. Their serious research works and creative activities, though on different fields, kept them deeply connected. After three years, “with well-received D. Phils”, they moved on, in tandem, to college teaching. But their fierce encounters continued and their sharp wit at each other’s expense would flash across the dinner tables at Oxford. However, those who understood their love felt envious of their unique relationship! They were childless yet their life was not tasteless.

Returning home after the celebration dinner (being declared the Joint Professor), their heated argument over Proust’s monumental work took such an intimidating turn, that a policeman, nearby, asked Philippa “Is everything all right madam?” “No, it is not”, William declared “this woman has been attacking me for over 30 years, and to date the police have done deplorably little to protect me”. Yet, beneath this apparent antagonism, their bond continued to grow stronger with each passing year. Interestingly, their intense love was inseparable from their zealous intellectual antagonism which lent a peculiar aura to their relationship. When Philippa was made the Dame of the British Empire, William referred to her as an “Old Dame” he had to live with now. It is this bitter-sweet flavor of their love which defines their marriage.

The most irritable habit of Philippa to William was her determination each morning to complete “The Times” crossword before he arrived at the breakfast table. One fine morning in June, William, studying the clue, filled in the eight boxes left incomplete by Philippa. Philippa’s instantly retorted that there was no such word. To the delight of Philippa the word “Whym Wham” could not be found in the shorter Oxford Dictionary. William assured her that the word could be found in OED on his desk, made for scholars like him. William left the breakfast table with sharp comments on Philippa’s limited command of English language and that she will have to eat a humble pie at Somerville’s Gaudy Feast as she reads the collected works of John Skelton…

William left with a sigh, kissing his wife on her cheek, wishing he had lost Charles Oldham. Philippa replied that he did indeed because it was highly inappropriate during those days to declare a woman as the sole winner! Having closed the front door, as she entered the kitchen, Dame Philippa suddenly suffered her lone heart attack. She called out to William hoarsely but in vain. The news of her death was conveyed and the story ends with a note of dark humor in the suicidal note of Sir William (who shot himself with his pistol): “Forgive me, but I had to let her know”. There was the volume of the work of John Skelton held open in one of his hand with the word “Whym Wham” underlined neatly, his fingers stiff and cold around it. Such weird ending, subtly hints at the essence of special relationship this couple shared so that they rise above the great marriage vow “TILL DEATH DO US PART.” Archer’s love story excels because death could not part Sir William and Dame Philippa! Even while following his wife to her grave, William felt the need to camouflage the inseparable bond they shared, and the insufferable loneliness he would feel without her… he does it with a wry sense of humor!

Competitor Analysis – A Graphic Design Perspective

You probably already know all about SWOT analysis. You might even have your oppositions target demographics, market share and sales figures on hand. But have you ever applied the same type of stringent methodology to analysing your competitors’ visual presence in the marketplace? A graphic design audit is a fantastic and relatively easy way to get a clear picture of how your competitors are perceived, what key messages they are communicating and how you look when placed alongside them. It’s also a valuable exercise that informs you about the type of communication your customers are receiving on a regular basis from your key competitors.

So how do you do it?

The first step to a graphic design audit is to compile every piece of sales and marketing collateral you can find from the competition. This includes trawling through their website and taking screen grabs of key pages, subscribing to their mailing lists, getting your hands on their brochures, purchasing their products so you can have a look at packaging etc. etc.

According to Peter L. Phillips author of “Creating the Perfect Design Brief – How to Manage Design for Strategic Advantage”, one of the best, least expensive and fastest methods is to attend all industry trade shows. There is nothing illegal, unprofessional or immoral about this practice. Business is merely a game we are playing to win after all!

Mr Phillips also suggests using your sales force members to find out what the competition are up to.

As they come into direct contact with customers every day, they can often pick up competitive literature from the customer. They only need to know what you need and of course why you need it.

So once you have compiled the information, what do you do with it?

The best way to start is by putting your competitors’ information up on the wall and analysing them one by one. Invite as many people as possible from your sales, marketing and business teams to give their individual opinion on what design elements are working very well for the competition, and what weaknesses they can see. By starting your analysis on your competitors first, you will build up a bit of objectivity so you can then turn the same harsh critique onto yourself.

Look for ways the design and language make a document unique. Do they have a friendly look and feel that reflects more personalized service? Do they look more professional than you? Why? Is it because the page is less cluttered, the colours are more toned down or some other reason? Is their website easier to navigate than your own? What do you think their reasons behind these choices were? Is there anything you can learn from them? Most importantly, how are these competitors using design for competitive advantage?

Now for the hard part – using the same analysis on yourself. Reassure your staff that this is not an exercise where they need to defend their work, it is merely a way of gaining useful information that could give you a competitive advantage that improves your bottom line. This aspect of the audit sometimes proves a bit tricky so you might need an independent opinion from a graphic design firm that understands the process to help you out.

It is amazing how much strategic information this process can generate. It will give you new ideas and a fresh perspective that can influence the entire way you approach your marketing for the year. And considering a lot of businesses think of graphic design as an annoying inconvenience, if you are the first to use this more strategic approach you will find it is another tool to help you stay one step ahead of the competition.

How to Kill Bed Bugs – Tips On How To Get Rid Of Bed Bugs Quickly And Easily

Many of us were put to sleep with the saying, 'good night, sleep tight, do not let the bed bugs bite' as children really, but have bed bugs were? Bed bugs are not as bad as everyone thinks they are, of course. They do not carry vicious diseases or imply uncleanliness – bed bugs can be picked up without you ever having to do anything but they are certainly a great deal harder to get rid of than they are to get. Luckily, learning how to kill bedbugs is not hard to do at all, and many of the things that you might have heard about their dogged tenacity to make your life miserable is not true at all.

If you want to know the truth about how to eliminate bed bugs, put the mop and bucket down. Contrary to popular belief, bed bugs do not give a care in the world about the cleanliness of their surroundings. They are easily submitted through clothing, luggage, boxes, and other vehicles from location to location and that is how they survive. Many people try the approach of just abandoning the awards for a while, in hopes that the bed bugs will be gone when they return but unfortunately they are known to live up to a year without a host to feed off, so you might have to truly abandon your residence for that tactic to work.

A way to kill bed bugs more easily without having to move out of your home is to completely eliminate them; this can be difficult as these little creatures can hide just about anywhere, from behind the light plate on your wall to under your pillow and mattress, and seal up all cracks and crevices in the home – even the area between the wall and the molding where the floor meets the wall. Sealing up these areas decreases the likelihood of the bed bugs finding a place to lay low until the air clears – literally.

After everything has been sealed and exposed, there are a few methods you can use to get rid of bed bugs but the most practical by far is steam cleaning. Most professional exterminators will use steam cleaners to kill the bugs as they can barely survive at temperatures above 110 degrees Fahrenheit. The heat kills the bugs, and after that it is just up to you to clean up the remains and make sure you do not ever have to deal with the bed bug problem ever again.

After the bugs have been killed, the problem is no longer how to kill bed bugs but how to keep them gone. If things are done right, rarely do bed bugs re-surface but it is important to always keep an eye out for them when you are traveling, even if you are staying at the Ritz-Carlton or the Waldorf-Astoria. After all, bed bugs do not discriminate and they have a tendency to travel great distances just to make the lives of human beings a tad bit more trying.

Basics of Building the Right Miniature Golf Course

A great and fun activity that you can enjoy from the comfort of your own backyard is miniature golf. Mini golf is a great and fun game for the whole family, and you do not need to go to a mini golf course and pay to play when you can learn building the right miniature golf course for yourself. Building a mini golf course is not that hard, and once you're done you'll be able to play a quick and fun game with your loved ones. The first thing that you'll need to do is look at your backyard or wherever you're planning to put the golf course. Try to see how much land you have to build your course in so that you know what you have to work with.

If a part of the yard is meant for a garden, then you'll have to build your course around it. Make a plan on paper of the land that you can place your golf course on. Then you'll need to decide where you want to put your holes. Decide on how many holes you want to put in your course and what kind of shots you want to make in order to get the ball into the holes. Once you've laid down the plan for the holes, you'll need to think about the kinds of obstacles you'll place in front of each hole.

Obstacles make the game a lot more fun, so choose ones that will make the game more interesting and complicated, but not too hard that it's discouraging. Some great obstacles include ramps and pipes. If you're willing to build and construct a great course, then you can even make moving obstacles to increase the level of challenge for your future mini golf players. The next thing you'll need to do is find out what kind of supplies you will need to use. You will need some PVC pipes for the pipes in the course, bags of sand, siding materials, planks for ramps, and other things that you'd like to include in your mini golf course.

Make a list of these things and buy them in a hardware store. It's a good idea to buy extra materials so that if ever something gets broken you can fix it or replace it easily and quickly. Once you've got your supplies, you can start to build your course. If you made a plan ahead, then you'll be able to easily build your course exactly the way you want it. You can move around obstacles and holes if they end up being too close and just change your plans a little bit. When you're done making the course, you can bring in the friends or family to see it and help you make any necessary changes to it.

Play a few rounds and keep score. This is so that the average score will set the par for the holes, to make the game fair. By following these steps, you now know the basics of building the right miniature golf course. Once you're done with this, you should have a great golf course to spend many afternoons having fun in.

Maintenance Tips For Commercial Carpeting

Commercial carpeting comes in all shapes and sizes, but making it last for the long haul depends on how well you take care of it. Commercial carpets are usually found in offices and commercial environments where there is heavy foot traffic. That means it's sooner to wear and tear than your average residence.

Believe it or not, if you can keep your carpets looking like new in even high traffic areas if you develop a system for maintaining the floors. You should clean commercial carpeting, for example, on a daily basis to extend its life. Vacuuming is a critical part of that maintenance.

Think of vacuuming your commercial carpeting as you would prevent maintenance on your car. It's important to how well it functions over the long haul. Your commercial carpeting is exposed to all sorts of potentially damaging elements, like dirt, grease, gum, or other debris that shortens its lifespan if not properly cleaned.

Depending on how heavy the traffic flow is through a facility, you may even need to vacuum your commercial carpeting more than once a day, or you may only need to vacuum certain areas more than once a day. The idea is to keep the elements from setting into the fiber of the commercial carpeting. Just because your carpet looks clean does not mean it is clean.

Your commercial carpet maintenance plan could even be broken up seasonally to take into consideration the different issues you face at different times of the year, like rain in the summer, snow in the winter, leaves and dirt in the autumn and so on.

Springtime is a good time to shampoo your commercial carpet, part of the spring cleaning ritual in your facility. Vacuuming daily is recommended, but it does not remove all the dirt and soil from the carpet. You will need to shampoo your commercial carpeting at least once a year, and springtime can be ideal.

Wintertime may only give you time for daily maintenance, especially if you are in the retail business. Summertime, by contrast, may be slower and could be a good time to restorative cleaning processes. It might even be the best time to replace your commercial carpeting with new carpet if it's visibly worn out.

You may even consider using a sweeper machine. A sweeper can be used on hard surfaces as well as commercial carpeting and can get the job done quicker. This may encourage your staff to stay on the preventive maintenance schedule.

Cuisinart Coffee Maker – Tips on How to Prolong Your Coffee Machine Lifespan

It is important that you take good care of your machine to ensure that they will serve you well. I personally have a Cuisinart Grind & Brew Coffee Maker which I have use for years without problem. This is because I take good care of it. I am going to share with you some good tips on how to prolong the life of your machine by proper maintenance.

I have notice that Cuisinart coffee maker parts need proper care to ensure their lifetime. This is because they are top notch machine which perform better compare to other brands and its parts are more flimsy. It is very important that you take care of them.

Many people do not know that location is important, this means that you must find a strategic place to put your Cuisinart coffee maker. This machine like said are build with high technology and have many electronically parts that are quite sensitive in nature. Always make sure that you find a place not to near to high temperature like near stoves or oven or even places near the back of radiators or refrigerators. The consequence of that is you may encounter more breakdowns if you place them at extreme temperature places. Do take note of this simple tip might lead you to lower costs of maintaining your coffee machine.

The best place I would suggest putting your Cuisinart coffee maker at your kitchen counter top. They are not very bulky in nature and also stylish in a way so just place them at your kitchen countertop.

Personally mine does not have any problems and I have not replaced any parts for years.

The next important tip is cleaning your Cuisinart coffee maker. For me personally, I clean my machine every time after use. Yes I know it is hard for most people but I advise that if you want them to perform longer, you need to do this. The reason is that the residual oil of the coffee beans would turn into rancid and if you do not rinse them off it will eat your parts up. So the best way is to clean them after use. If you really do not have the time, at least make an effort to rinse them off especially the carafe.

Cleaning your Cuisinart coffee maker is very important like I say earlier. It is a very good way to pro long their lifespan and you would have ensured that it will brew you the best coffee every day. If you really do not have the time you should at least wash them twice a week if you are a daily brewer.

My last tip on ways to pro long your Cuisinart coffee maker is you need to gauge how frequently you brew coffee. If you are those people that brew 2 to 3 times a day half capacity, this may wear off your machine in the long run. Try to cut it down by brewing a full pot once daily. This is because when you are brewing at half pot capacity, you are stressing your machine in a way. Try to purchase a coffee machine that caters to your capacity needs. If there is not so many people that drinks coffee, do not buy a 12 cup brewing machines. Try to look at your needs before buying.

Simple rite, these 3 steps if you follow them, I could guarantee you that your Cuisinart coffee maker will serve you long and well trouble free.

You Should Read the Dictionary – I Know it Sounds Crazy, But You Will Be Glad You Did

Who on Earth would bother to read the dictionary? Well, you are reading an article about someone who did and has read several dictionaries from cover to cover, and I must say has learned a lot along the way. And just in case you think I am crazy, did you know Bill Gates read the entire encyclopaedia? Do you think Bill Gates is crazy? What is it that people who read reference books gain? Hmm, well, I think you bought to find out that answer to yourself.

In fact, I am going to recommend that you read the dictionary, no, not the unabridged Oxford version that is one foot square and ten inches high, yes, I have one of those. It does have just about every word you'll ever read except for the create-a-word blogging bandits vocabulary. Rather, I am going to recommend that you read a smaller version with adequate print. My choice is the;

"Webster's Dictionary" with over 50,000 entries for home, school, and office. Edited by John Gage Allee, Ph.D. 1978.

Why do I recommend an older version? Well it does not have all the new buzz words or recent words that you already know, so you do not have any silly distractions. It's only 446 pages and that is not much bigger than a long novel. Yes the print is smaller than a novel, so maybe its equivalent to a 892 page book, but you can handle that, you are a grown up now. And even if you read only one letter per day you will finish in a month without breaking a sweat and your mind will have more time to soak it up too. Go for it.

Choosing Between Timber Or Steel Frames and Trusses

When choosing between timber or steel frames and trusses for your kit home, there are several considerations to keep in mind. These considerations involve many factors such as the location of your kit home, the exposure to certain environmental and climatic conditions, and your budget. But whether you choose timber or steel, you can be assured you are buying a quality home to meet your family needs.

Do not Pester Me

Choosing between timber or steel frames sometimes comes down to considering the pests where you will be building. Termite damage in Australian homes costs home owners millions of dollars every year in repairs. A steel framed and trussed kit home provides extra protection against termites. There's not a termite in the world that can eat its way through steel! If you live in an area with termites, steel is the best choice for your home construction.

It should be stated that the framing for wood and steel is very similar. The differences are quite few. Steel does not have to settle like wood. That means steel framing is ideal for locations where there is a lot of moisture. Unlike wood, steel will not expand and contract when exposed to different moisture depths in the air. Although the wood used in kit homes is of high quality and always properly treated and sealed, wood is sensitive to moisture. A steel frame never has the possibility of warping, shrinking, splitting or twisting due to moisture.

I Can Handle That

Many people choose to build their own kit homes in order to reduce labor costs. Steel frames are already punch holed, weigh less and do not need to be chemically treated like wood. Owners who decide to build their own kit homes find these features important, because they make the job simpler all around.

One of the big advantages of steel construction is the fact steel beams are not as heavy as wood timbers. Yet steel is stronger than wood even though it weighs less. When you live in an area with high winds, steel framing and trusses provide extra protection against the weather.

Steel is also recommended for areas which are subject to frequent wild fires or are built in areas where the fire threat is high. A wood home is much more likely to catch on fire quickly, and once on fire, the damage is intensive. Steel framed home are better able to withstand fire threats and will sustain less damage than wood framed homes.

Another reason why steel frames and trusses may be desirable over wood in a particular home is the fact steel can span a longer distance than wood. When you custom design your home as an open floor plan, you may need to choose steel over wood to meet construction standards.

Do not Forget Wood

Complete all the advantages of using steel for framing and trusses, houses built with wood have pluses also. Wood costs less than steel so when termites or extreme weather are not problems, wood is a good choice. Wood is a versatile material for construction purposes also. You can easily adapt design any floor plan or house style using wood.

Choosing between timber or steel frames and trusses for your kit home requires an assessment of the environmental features of the area in which you will be building. But the one thing you can be sure of ….. the steel and wood kit home will be well built and enduring.

The Eviction Process

Obviously, evicting a tenant is not a thrilling part of real estate investing for the tenant or the landlord. What follows is a description of the eviction process itself (especially as it pertains to what can be expected in Ohio), pepered with some of my personal comments with regards to how I typically handle evictions.

Generally, if I've not received rent monies from a tenant by the 8th or 9th of the month, I call the tenant. My leases stipulate that the tenant has a grace period until the 5th of the month to mail rent monies without being charged any type of late fee. As long as the envelope is postmarked by the 5th – no late fee. Asking 3 or 4 days (from the 5th) for a tenant's payment to arrive is pretty liberal and plenty of time to allow for the monies to be received from cross-town mail.

If upon a call to the tenant I believe we're going to have problems, I immediately deliver a 3-day notice to the property. A copy of the notice is made before delivering. The 3-day notice is posted (taped) on the front door of the property if the tenant or other occupant is not there when it's delivered. Any tenant that reaches this point (the starting of the eviction process), is advised that the 3-day notice is simply being posted as a way to protect my interests in the event the tenant does not make good on the outstanding monies due.

Attaching a 3-day notice to the tenant's door does not negatively affect the tenant's public record. It's not until the 3-day is basically filed that it becomes public record. The landlord can not file for eviction until 3 business days have passed from the point the 3 day-notice was placed on the property. Once the 3 business days are up, the landlord can begin the formal eviction process. How does this start? You will take your paperwork, including a copy of the 3-day notice, and file to have an eviction hearing. I use an attorney to process all of my evictions. Specifically, one specializing in handling evictions. I personally prefer using an attorney that will try to remedy the situation with the tenant before the case is even heard. You do not have to use an attorney – you can do a lot of this yourself and save a few bucks, but I recommend you use one. If you've never been to your local court system to witness eviction hearings, I highly recommend it. You'll soon get a flavor of what takes place during these hearings and will know what to expect ahead of time should you ever get to the point of processing an eviction on one of your own properties.

You can expect it to take approximately two weeks before your hearing is scheduled. It's important to note that I always keep the communication line open with the tenant through this whole process. I think this is extremely important. I want the tenant to know that I do not like going down this path just as much as the tenant does not. It's not my goal just to boot a tenant out of the property. In fact, I try very hard to work out payment arrangements or even payment assistance resources with the tenant in an effort to get him or her back up on their feet. Yes it may take a little hand-holding and some of your extra time, but I'll say eight out of ten tenants going through this extra hand-holding will appreciate your trying to help and will absolutely clear their overdue balances with you. You walk a very fine line here with the tenant in that he or she may also be taking advantage of you. It can be a tough call. At times it can simply come down to relying on your gut feeling with the situation.

If judgment is taken (in your favor) at the hearing, the judge will give you permission to "red tag" the door. A red tag is just that – it's bright red and has marked on it the date that possessions will be moved out of the property if the tenant has not vacated. The tenant has five days from tagging to get out of the property. It will usually take 2-3 business days after the court hearing for this tag to get placed on the front door of your property. Again, I keep the tenant abreast of my intentions during this process. You as the landlord call the shots with regards to whether or not any possible set-out occurs. I mention to the tenant that I still do not desire to set property out at the curve, and if payment arrangements can be made, the set-out can be averted. You will again have to make the call here. Do you want to accept only partial payment for what is owed and try to arrange a plan for payment on the extra monies? Or do you feel the tenant is just not going to make it, and in this instance, follow through with the eviction process?

The final step is the dreaded set-out. It's extremely rare that I ever have to get to this point. If it comes this far, frankly the tenant desires it. I've given them every opportunity within reason to try and remedy the situation or move out on their own accord. If the tenant has not moved out by the date stipulated on the red tag, you as the landlord have the right to order a set-out with the bailiff. Again, an attorney that specializes in evictions really helps here. In Columbus, Ohio, you only have a two hour window Monday-Friday to request and schedule a set-out. Additionally, the set-out must be scheduled within ten days following the red tag, or you have to order a supplement red tag (more money).

When the set-out is requested (it's generally a day and time agreed upon by you and the bailiff), you will be expected to have at least four people dedicated to setting furniture and belongings out of the house. You will also be required to have trash bags and boxes to pack items before removing them from the house. Good maintenance workers will be handy to have when you get to this point.

As you can see, evictions can be a rather drawn-out process that generally take a good three to four weeks to run their route. This is why I believe it's very cruel to always maintain good communication lines with your tenant and try and be as professional as possible in handling the situation. It will be frustrating! … but try and keep an open mind into ways you can help your tenant get through this. A good positive attitude can go a long way to making this process less stressful to both you and the tenant!

What Are Laminate Floors?

So, be honest: how often do you walk in to someone's home that just got a laminate floor installed, stop, and say "Oh my god what is that !?". Okay, so no one does that, but I bet you're wondering now! Not many people think about flooring and laminate is not exactly new, so most really do not give a lot of thought as to what they're made of. However, there are always those of us that are curious so, if you are one of them, keep reading.

What's The Difference Between Laminate Floor And Pergo?

Let's get this out of the way: Pergo and laminate flooring is the same thing. You have to respect a brand that is a household name in an industry so competitive as flooring, but Pergo really is nothing more than a laminate floor brand. People tend to start calling things by their brand name, since that's what's mostly advertised, but calling laminate floors Pergo is akin to calling all sodas Coke or Pepsi. So, when someone says they have Pergo, you know that what they are really saying is laminate flooring, but I would not point that out since some people will just argue the matter.

Laminate Floors Are Not Real Hard Wood

But, at the same time, they kind of are. Although they are not hard wood, and there are ways to tell as much, there are some higher quality floors that you really must get down there with a magnifying glass to really be able to tell. There is, to be sure, real wood mixed in there as laminate flooring is based on a wood chip composite material, but that does not really tell you the whole story. If you can not tell if the floor is real wood or laminate, use your knuckles to knock on it. Laminate will give off a plastic sound tick, and wooden ones are more of a thunk or thud.

Laminate Floors Are Designed To Look Like Hard Wood Floors

In essence, a laminate floor is a picture of a hardwood floor, only pasted on to a much more hardy material. Laminated flooring excels at surviving the same conditions that make owners of hardwood floor hiss through their teeth in consternation. Scrapes, scratches, and scuffs are still possible, but much less likely, and a lot easier to repair if needed. In homes where there is a lot of kid or pet traffic, real wood floors are really becoming outdated and cumbersome by comparison.

Laminate Floors And Traditional Lamination

Yes, they are both derivatives of the same process, called lamination. Most people think that lamination is basically the act of putting some paper in some plastic, but that's a very watered down definition. If you were to put plastic around your cell phone and either glue the plastic or seal it with heat, you would have laminated your cell phone, which would be either ridiculous or hilarious, depending on the circumstances. In the case of laminate floors, the plastic surrounds and protects a photograph of wood which then sets, amusingly enough, on a base of wood chips. The result is almost all of the benefits of hard wood floors with few of the drawbacks.

How to Build a Brick Grill

Are you contemplating the possibility of constructing an outdoor grill made of bricks? It is not as difficult as you may believe. All you need to do is some careful preparation like making sure that you have all the bricks that you need and cement mixture and an adequate amount of time. An outdoor made of grill is a good choice compared to the standard grill made out of metal that most individuals are using. It costs a little more but you will not have to worry about the lifespan of your grill.

How to Construct Your Very Own Brick Grill

Once you have decided how big the grill that you will construct, request a substantial quantity of bricks from your local hardware and have delivered near the location of your outdoor grill. It is advisable to build it on a flat surface like a cement slab. This will ensure that your project will not be affected by any changes in an uneven surface. A good option to save cash is to construct a cooking area with legs.

Make a square exactly the size of a standard grill and install four brick in each of the square's corners. Then place bricks and cement up the four posts until you have four sturdy legs about three feet high. Install a level across each support to make sure that they are all the same height.

Use a saw to make a rectangular shape wood the width of columns of the square but thirty-six inches longer. Place the wood on the upper part of the four columns that possess an overhang of eighteen inches on both sides. This makes an excellent preparation area for a minimum amount of money. For additional support, utilize cement anchors to lock the wood to the bricks.

Place bricks into two rows across the base of the brick grill up to the four corners. Make sure that you will use a fire resistant mortar to close any openings or cracks in your project. You do not want any fire from the coals destroying the wood. Use a mortar mix to install bricks into two rows around the outside area of the bottom of the brick grill.

Repeat the process on the back and both sides until the bricks are eighteen inches high. Utilize a level to make sure that it is straight. After determining the dimensions for your grill you can now look for its grate. Look for the grate that you will need it in your local barbecue store. If you have a substantial budget, buy a brick that is ceramic covered because they are more resistant to rust.

Now that you know the basics of constructing an outdoor grill, you are one hundred percent sure that it will be successful and all you need to do is beginning cooking your favorite foods.

Why to Design a Black and White Fashion Designer Logo

Fashion designing is a game of colors. Whether creating apparel or jewelery or handbags, blending appealing shades in contrasting way is the knot of creative designing. I've often seen people rejecting a fine-looking dress just because "red is not in," or "yellow does not suit my looks" and other similar comments on colors. So, color is one the definitive factors when one buys a style product. This has led designers to believe that their logosought to be multihued and vibrant. This is often a misconception because one can create an excellent fashion designer logo using just two colors – black and white.

The questions, however, is, "why fashion designers' logo should be black and white and not colored?" Here are some answers you can not easily ignore.

Easy and Cheap to Print

Colored cartridges are expensive and people often avoid printing in color when need multiple copies. They are also more flexible in use as you do not have to take much care in using them on your flyers, business cards, and letter heads because they can fit well on paper.

Have a Classy Ever-Green Look

Colors go in and out but black and white remain. Black and white is a combination that has been in use since the advent of creative designing and there is no chance of their getting out of fashion. Having this ever-green combination on your logo ensures that your logo will never become out-of-date. You can use this logo forever.

Grab Attention through Excellent Contrast

Black and white colors are popular for their excellent contrast. They go perfectly well together. What more, their contrast is very much attractive and eye-catching, so you can easily grab the attention of the onlookers using this appealing combination.

Stand Out In the Crowd of Images

As I pointed out earlier, when creating a fashion logo, focus usually is on the use of colors. So there is pretty good chance that in any fashion designing competition or event, all other logos will be full of color but yours will be unique. Beside, the designer has not relied on the colors for creating the appeal, so it will more artistic and creative. In the gallery of logos of all fashion designers, your logo will easily stand out.

Conveys clear message

Have you ever give it a thought that the all manuscripts and document requires black printing on white paper? This is simply because that it's easiest to read black text with white background. Changing the font color or background color can make the message unclear and difficult to read. Black & White fashion designer logo is, therefore, better in communicating its message than a colored one.

Combining them all, you come up with an attractive, more powerful and unique design with black and white colors which will give your fashion business an outstanding character.

How to Build Your Very Own Stretch Limousine

How many times have you watched a limousine being driven down the road and thought to yourself, "man that sure would be nice to own one". The cost of purchasing one because is the prohibitive factor for most people. There is an affordable option though and that is to turn the car you now own into a stretch limousine by following these simple easy to follow instructions.

Start Taking Your Car Apart

Your going to start by removing all of the interior paneling and seats, down to the point where the car is pretty much bare inside. Next, you will need to climb under your car and remove the drive line and any brake fluid lines that are running up the under carriage.

Cut Your Car in half

Also, you will want to remove any wiring that is running the length of your car both inside and out. Next, remove all of the side windows as well as the doors. Your next step will be to get a saws-all and a pack of new metal cutting blades and saw the car in half.

Head to the Wrecking Yard

Make sure that your cut line avoids any doors for simplicity. Have a friend help you to pull the two halves of your car apart and set them up on blocks. Now head to the wrecking yard and find a car just like yours that you can cut a midsection chunk from.

A Total of Six Doors!

Bring the chunk back and weld it in place. Now you have two extra doors in back, for a total of six doors in your car! Grind and sand down your welding seams, finish them off with bondo and then hit them with a good coat of primer paint.

Easy As Pie !!

Take your drive line to a machine shop, have it extended and start to put your limo back together. Some of your interior panels will fit and some will not, so you are going g to have to do some creative upholstery work. Your also going to need some extra long brake lines and an extended wiring harness. Hit the car with a paint job and you are good to go!

Do Your Hands and Wrists Ache From Work? To Relieve Pain and Revive, Do This Immediately After Work

Our jobs can put stress on our hard-working hands, wrists and forearms. Cooking, specialty construction like tile-setting and carpentry, detailed artisan and craftsmanship, and playing music are all types of work that leave our hands weary and sore.

Pain is a sign that our muscles and joints are overworked. When pain continues or recurs, you may be getting an injury. Our hands and wrists are especially vulnerable to repetitive stress injuries like carpal tunnel syndrome.

You may be feeling extreme fatigue. Sometimes your hobbies and other non-work activities also involve hand and wrist movement. If fatigue is ongoing, it can lead to worse problems.

One sign of degeneration (wear and tear) is osteoarthritis. Arthritis is a state of inflammation. The body is reacting to over activity at the joints. Although there are many natural treatments for pain relief, the condition is mostly irreversible, so it should be avoided whenever possible.

We often try to ignore pain. We think our bodies will heal themselves (and they do, sometimes). We can not be bothered with the distraction of pain. And we do not want to think that something worse might be happening, like a chronic injury.

Taking care of our bodies at the first sign of pain is important for immediate relief and long-term health. With our upper extremities (hands, wrists, forearms, upper arms), it is especially important to think of the long-term repercussions of that pain.

There is a simple answer: it's a natural remedy that brings instant and long-term relief!

There is an all-natural method that can be practiced anytime, but it is especially helpful when practiced immediately after work. You can practice it before work and on breaks during your work-day, too.

As soon as you finish work, dunk your hands in a deep bowl of ice-water! This one basic first aid step will relate your pain and inflammation immediately, and it will help prevent long-lasting injuries, too.

The Tombstones and Creepy Old Crypts of Walt Disney World's Haunted Mansion

Dear Lou …

We just love the Haunted Mansion! Every time we go, we just love looking at the graves in front of the entrance, and we just noticed the mausoleum at the exit. They were always there (I do not remember the mausoleum). And are the names on the graves of real people or just made-up?

OK, first things first. I love the Haunted Mansion as well! To me, there is nothing else quite like it in any park in WDW. The nostalgia, the effects … it's great.

Now, on to the questions (posed to me by someone during a recent trip to WDW, but asked of me more than once).

The mausloeum at the end of the attraction was always there, but may be overlooked by people who are still shaking, laughing, or running as they exit the Haunted Mansion. As far as the tombstones, they have always been there … and always will be, I believe.

The Walt Disney World Haunted Mansion

The tombstones at the entrance to the Dutch Gothic home of the Graceys are there not just for show, but are a silent, standing tribute to many of Walt Disney World's (and especially the Haunted Mansion's) contributors. As is often done in attractions through the parks, Imagineers honor those men and women who have helped create some of the true magic of WDW. Sometimes they are hidden, while other times, as here, they are more obvious.

After you pass through the menacing wrought-iron gates surrounding the Haunted Mansion, you will encounter the home's cemetery, (conveniently located right outside the entrance). Here you will find a number of witty headstones with epitaphs (written by Disney Legend Xavier Atencio), not to the "dear departed", but in tribute to the many Imagineers who helped develop the Haunted Mansion.

Here is a list of the tombstone inscriptions and the Imagineers who inspired them:

Requiescat

Francis Xavier,

no time off for

good behavior

RIP

Legendary Imagineer Francis Xavier "X" Atencio helped develop the Haunted Mansion story line, wrote the theme song's lyrics, and helped come up with the tombstone inscriptions.

Dear departed

Brother Dave,

he chased a bear

into a cave

This stone was named after Dave Burkhart, who was the model builder for the Haunted Mansion.

At peaceful rest

lies Brother Claude,

planted here

beneath this sod

Claude Coats was the Imagineer who came up with the layout of the OmniMover ride track for the Haunted Mansion, as well as numerous concept sketches

Some of the "seriously departed"

In memory of

our patriarch,

dear departed

Grandpa Marc

Marc Davis, a legendary designer and artist for Disney, as responsible for almost all of the concept art for the Haunted Mansion, including many of the humorous characters and scenes.

Master Gracey

laid to rest,

no mourning please

at his request

Farewell

Yale Gracey was responsible for many of the special effects seen in the Haunted Mansion, including the stretching portraits and the séance room, as well as for a number of attractions through Walt Disney World.

Rest in peace

Cousin Huet,

we all know

you did not do it

Cliff Huet was an architect and lead interior designer.

Here lies

good old Fred,

a great big rock

fell on his head

RIP

This inscription is a tribute to Disney Legend Fred Joerger, an art director that created numerous plaster effects for the Haunted Mansion. He is also honored with his name on a window above Main Street, USA.

Here lies a man

named Martin,

the lights went out

on this old Spartan

Bud Martin was the director of the Imagineering special effects department.

RIP

In memoriam

Uncle Myall,

here you'll lie

for quite a while

Chuck Myall was a designer at WED Enterprises who aided in the overall planning of the Magic Kingdom.

Wathel R. Bender,

he rode to glory

on a fender

Peaceful rest

An innovator in the area of Audio-Animatronics, Wathel Rogers also helped program many of the figures in the Haunted Mansion

RIP

Mister Sewell,

the victim of

a dirty duel

Peaceful rest

Bob Sewell was one of the head models at WED Enterprises

Good friend Gordon,

now you've crossed

the River Jordan

Gordon Williams designed much of the sound effects for the Mansion and assisted with the Audio-Animatronics programming

Dear sweet Leota,

beloved by all

In regions beyond now,

but having a ball

The most recent addition to the "family plot", how could we forget "little" Leota Toombs? She was an artist at WED who face was used as the model for the head in the crystal ball for the seance scene, and so the character was named "Madame Leota" in her honor. Keep your "eyes" on the headstone for a little surprise – it opens its eyes every so often to see who's coming over, then closes them again in silent vigilance.

As you exit the Haunted Mansion, you will also find a crypt on the left hand side. The names found on the two crypts (with their tongue-in-cheek pronunciations in parentheses) are:

Asher T. Ashes (ashes to ashes)

Wee G. Bord (ouija board)

I. Trudy Dew (I truly do)

Dustin T. Dust (dust to dust)

Manny Festation (manifestation)

Metta Fisiks (metaphysics)

Pearl E. Gates (pearly gates)

Rusty Gates (rusty gates)

Hail N. Harty (hail and hearty)

CU Later (see you later)

Hal Lucinashun (hallucination)

Rustin Peese (rest in peace)

IM Ready (I am ready)

Hap A. Rition (apparition)

I. Emma Spook (I am a spook)

Paul Tergyst (poltergeist)

MT Tomb (empty tomb)

Love U. Trudy (love you truly)

Clare Voince (clairvoyance)

Bea Witch (be a witch)

In Spiritual Repose …

In Spiritual Repose …

Lastly, there is poor Bluebeard's final resting place. Maybe he was a good pirate, but he was not the luckiest guy when it comes to picking the ladies, it looks …
