Elements of Writing a Mystery Novel

Like anything, a mystery novel is composed of different parts, which are referred to as elements. Each are critical in capturing the readers interest. If your story is searched and well written, it is sure to be a winner. By now, you are probably wondering what the elements are. They are the science, plot, characters with settings and writing technique.

First is the science. This needs to be accurate due to the fact several mystery novel readers are wired versus forensic techniques. They can see through phony stuff in an instant, and you want to avoid that. If you can write a good story and have correct science then your book just went from decent to great.

Next is the development of the plot. This will make or break your story. It is crucial to have a plot that makes sense, is intriguing, and has many twists and turns to keep the reader not knowing what is going to happen next. The more they do not know what is coming the more suspense you will create and of course in a mystery novel, suspense is everything! If there was a part to really focus on, it would be the plot!

Following is creating the characters with stories settings. It is important to really develop them and make them something authentic. You want to have the audience relate them. This will increase the connection with the reader and makes it easier for you to write the rest of the novel. The more you know about your character, the easier it is for you to write about them. After the characters, the setting is extremely important to set the atmosphere for the story.

Lastly, the element of writing technique is significant when constructing your mystery novels. This is simply because this is part of what creates the emotion within the reader. It is good to include literary elements such as similes, personification, and metaphors. It is good to also include more advanced techniques such as suspense and foreshadowing. These are big keys when writing a mystery story. What is even more important is what is called red herrings. These will make reader think the story is going one way when it is actually the other. Incorporating these will enhance your story and make for a better read.

If you can have all these elements intertwined into your story, you are on the right track to write a great mystery novel!

The Pros and Cons of Overhead Projectors

Despite the rise of LCD digital projectors, overhead projectors are still widely used in different settings such as classrooms and business meetings. They are very sturdy, easy to use, and fairly affordable. In short, an overhead projector can be rightfully considered as a practical tool for presenting visuals to a large group of people.

Read on and learn about the advantages and disadvantages of using this type of projector.

Pros

1. They are easy to operate. The most obvious benefit here is that these projectors are equipped with simple technology. It doesn’t have complicated parts nor does it have too many cables that’s why setting it up is never a hassle. You won’t have to worry about figuring out different settings and requirements such as software troubleshooting and others. This also means you will be able to avoid computer-related concerns which could possibly ruin your presentations.

2. They are less expensive to acquire and maintain. Compared with modern LCD projectors, overhead projectors require lesser amount of money to acquire and maintain. Purchasing from the right resources could lead you to about 50 percent savings and so this makes a nice choice if you are tight on budget. Look around and try browsing the available options. You will likely find projectors that have almost the same price as an LCD lamp.

3. Transparencies are available everywhere. Regardless if you are using an inkjet or laser printer, there are transparency films that are perfect for your device. These transparencies can be bought from nearby stores that carry office supplies and they are often available for a cheap price.

Cons

1. The heat. Although projector cases are designed to endure the heat of internal lamps, you as a user may still find it too hot to touch. Moreover, certain parts could even cause burns if you are not too careful. Also, be extra cautious not to place flammable materials beside it during or after use. This is important so you can avoid untoward incidents.

2. The toxins. There’s always the tendency for the projector’s plastic and metal parts to melt because of its heat level. When this happens, the machine will likely release toxic chemicals which may induce dizziness, skin irritation, and others. In case you suspect that you are are experiencing any of these symptoms after using the machine, then it’s always best to contact a professional technician to perform checks and repairs.

Different Types of Insulation

Insulation helps in energy conservation, which keeps your house warm during winters and cool during summers. This helps in saving money on energy bill as there the place is airtight and needs less power to keep it cool or warm. Apart from offering heat insulation, these also offer sound insulation which helps in reducing the sound transmission from one room to another or from outside to inside and vice versa. There are different types of insulation available in the market, such as fiber glass, cellulose and foam insulation, which have different R-value. Moreover, these insulation material also differs in thickness and density. The most commonly used insulation, found in residential and commercial buildings, are blanket insulation, loose-fill insulation, rigid board insulation and spray foam insulation.

The loose fill insulation is made up of loose fibers and fiber pellets, which fill in the cavities or attics using special machines. Although these are expensive, it is also efficient as it completely insulates the thing and makes it airtight. There are two types of loose-fill insulation, namely cellulose as well as fiberglass and rockwool mixture. Green insulation, cellulose is composed of recycled newspaper which can be chemically treated to make it fire resistant. In contrast, the fiberglass and rockwool mixture uses the blow-in blanket system which offers full coverage and better insulation.

On the other hand, the blanket insulation is made from mineral fibers and are available in blank rolls of varying widths. These are generally used to insulate floor, ceilings as well as walls, and are installed between wooden frames and rafters. These are most affordable type of insulation, however it requires utmost precision and care, while installing, for it to be effective.

In contrast, the high quality rigid board insulation is made from fiber glass, polystyrene or polyurethane and is available in varying thickness. It is generally used in cathedral ceilings, concrete slab ceilings and for reproofing of the basement walls and flat roofs. The only precaution that needs to be considered while installing it internally, is that should be covered in accordance with the building codes and fire safety measures. In case you install it externally, then it must be covered with weatherproof facing.

The spray foam is composed of two liquids, namely a polymer agent and a foam agent, which are sprayed into cavities to make things airtight. On application, the liquid form expands and turn into solid plastic, accounting countless air-filled cells. These are expensive than other forms of insulation, but it is also easy to install and can be done without professional help.

Here, depending upon your home's requirement you may use Foam Insulation, fiberglass insulation or any other type of insulation, which not only preserves energy but also offers Sound Insulation. As a responsible citizen, it is advisable that you use Green Insulation , such as cellulose which is environment friendly.

Turkey House Plans – All You Need To Know Before Deciding on A Turkey House

So you have been raising a few turkey poults in the backyard for your own family’s consumption. Now you want to take your turkey project to the next level and raise more than what your family needs. What do you do now? How exactly do you scale up? The first thing you need to seriously think about is how to come up with turkey house plans.

From this point on, you should be ready to have room for adult turkeys, both males and females, and provide them with an environment that is conducive to reproducing and raising their own babies. If you have been into turkey poult-raising, you will find the next level easier because there is not a lot of difference from what you are currently doing.

Deciding on the best turkey house plans are an important factor in the success of your turkey raising project. Most turkey house plans will have provisions for heat lamps, which regulate the temperature in the breeding space. If you are looking at several plans, it is recommended that you choose one that is scalable. This way, you can scale it up should you decide later that you want more turkeys, or scale it down, if you want to downsize your stock.

Turkey house plans typically come with an accurate list of the materials that you need. For best results, stick to the list of materials unless you can make knowledgeable alterations to the plan. For example, purchase the required length of wood, as well as the required number of meters of meshed wire fence. The roof is something that you can have flexibility with. You can pretty much use any material of your choice for the roof, as long as it provides protection to the turkeys against exposure to the elements.

Finally, the typical turkey house plans should also have areas for males and females to breed. The breeding space should be comfortable enough to accommodate turkeys for the week-long breeding period. After the breeding period, the females will need a nesting box to lay their eggs in. The nesting box should be big enough to fit the nesting turkeys, as well as small enough to protect the eggs as they are laid one per day. It normally takes a week to fill the nesting box with eggs. After the week-long laying of eggs, you have the option to take the eggs away to incubate them, or leave them there for their mothers to warm until they hatch.

Sloppy, Good Track, Or Muddy Track Handicapping Tips

Even though many horse tracks have switched over to the synthetic surfaces that aren’t affected as much by moisture, there are still some dirt race tracks left in the United States. Knowing how to handicap an off track rated as good, muddy, or sloppy, can save the day. Betting on horses racing on a fast track is risky enough, but betting on an off track adds one more dimension.

The best advice seems to be, if the track isn’t fast, don’t bet the races. But if you want to try your hand at handicapping an off track and picking winners, here are some tips. First of all, since the race tracks in the United States don’t tell you how much moisture is in the track in any scientific or quantifiable way, you must be the final judge of the track condition.

I have seen tracks with puddles of water, that were obviously sloppy tracks, rated as good. On the other hand, I’ve seen muddy tracks rated as fast. So you must make up your own mind and remember that subjective terms like muddy, or sloppy, are just that, subjective. They are an opinion, not a fact.

Muddy tracks are not fast tracks, but sloppy tracks often are. On top of that, each dirt race track has its own peculiar way of reacting to moisture. Some drain toward the rail and therefore favor outside runners. Others are crowned and favor mid track post positions. Once again, it is up to you to know the track you are playing. What you must do is to suspect a bias and then quickly verify it.

While you are playing the track, you must also be aware of how much rain is falling, if it is still raining, and how the track may change from race to race. If this sounds difficult, you’re right, it is. Not only must you handicap the horses, but on a day when the weather is inclement, you must also handicap the track surface. I advise keeping meticulous notes so that when the situation arises, and it will, you can take advantage of it quickly.

Just as we look for situations that repeat themselves with horses and trainers, we look for weather situations that repeat and create a track bias we have seen in the past.

6 Fun Facts About the History of the Alabama Crimson Tide

At the University of Alabama, football is king. The school’s gridiron squad has won numerous national titles, has had renowned coaches and players, and was even featured in the motion picture “Forest Gump.” While most fans of “Alabama,” “Bama,” or “UA” know these details, you might be unaware of some others. Here are some facts about Alabama football, which fewer football fans know:

1. The “Crimson Tide” nickname originated from a muddy game

Prior to becoming the Alabama Crimson Tide, people commonly referred to Alabama’s football squad, as the “Crimson White” (named after the school colors) or “Thin Red Line.” Then in 1907, Alabama played its arch rival, Auburn. Alabama was a huge underdog, and the teams played in a “sea” of red mud. However, Alabama battled Auburn to a 6-6 tie. Later, a sports editor named Zipp Newman popularized the nickname “Crimson Tide.”

2. No Alabama player has won the Heisman Trophy

Ironically, despite all the success of the Alabama Crimson Tide’s football team, no player has won the Heisman Trophy award-given to the most outstanding NCAA football player in a single season. In 1993, David Palmer became the closest Alabama player to winning the award. David “The Deuce” Palmer, played wide receiver for the Crimson Tide, and would later play seven seasons with the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings.

3. Alabama has won 21 SEC titles

The Crimson Tide’s football record is simply outstanding. Here are some of its accomplishments, throughout the years:

o 12 National Titles

o 25 Conference Titles (21 SEC)

o 51 Bowl Games

o 92 All-American Players

4. Paul “Bear” Bryant had a .834 winning percentage as Alabama’s coach

Coach “Bear” Bryant is a legend at Alabama. He led the Crimson Tide to six national championships, which is half of the team’s all-time 12 national titles. Bryant also coached at Texas A&M University, the University of Kentucky and the University of Maryland. However, Alabama was where Bryant had his most success. Bryant earned the nickname “bear” when, at 13-years-old, he wrestled a bear as part of a theater’s promotion.

5. Alabama’s elephant mascot dates back to 1930

The origin of the school’s elephant mascot was the 1930 season. At that time, Coach Wallace Wade was the team’s general. During a game versus Mississippi, an Alabama fan shouted, “…the elephants are coming!” referring to Alabama’s huge, aggressive players. Everett Strupper, a sportswriter, reported the incident.

6. Three former Alabama coaches are in the College Football Hall of Fame

Since the Hall of Fame first opened its doors in South Bend, Indiana (1951), it has inducted 16 Alabama players, and three coaches. The coaches inducted were Wallace Wade (1923-1930), Frank Thomas (1931-1946), and Paul “Bear” Bryant (1958-1982). The Hall of Fame inducted Bryant as both a player and a coach.

The football history at Alabama is simply amazing. It includes 12 national championships, Coach “Bear” Bryant, and some aforementioned less famous facts. Use Alabama Crimson Tide merchandise to cheer on the team to its next historical moment-another national championship!

What Are The Best Shoes Or Sandals For Pregnancy?

Pregnancy is an amazing journey in so many ways, not the least of which is the way our bodies change. Our hormones, while transforming us into givers of life, also bring with them a number of uncomfortable side effects. Morning fatigue and tiredness are common in early pregnancy, however many women do not realize that the hormones of pregnancy may also lead to various aches and pains all over the body, especially the feet.

Relaxin, the hormone responsible for relaxing the ligaments of the pelvis, in order for it to open during childbirth, exerts its effect on all ligaments in the body. Relaxin combined with the additional weight most women carry through a pregnancy quite often leads to very sore, aching feet. Problems in the feet may cause a domino effect through the body: knee problems, hip aches, back ache and headaches. A simple solution is to invest in at least one pair of supportive and contoured shoes or sandals. Birkenstock footwear is one such brand that delivers unsurpassed support and comfort and is definitely the best brand to wear during pregnancy.

Birkenstock has many styles to choose from, and all feature the famous contoured foot-bed, offering strong arch support, a deep heel cup and toe grips. They are crafted out of all natural products including cork and latex, designed to cradle and support the foot. The cork is an excellent shock absorber and will also soften and conform to your own foot shape and walking pattern. Most styles have an adjustable strap, allowing you to achieve a perfect fit through your pregnancy, even if you suffer from fluid retention and swelling. Many of the styles are also 'slip ons', saving you from bending down to do them up, which can be a challenge as your pregnancy progresses!

Birkenstock sandals and shoes are also the perfect shoe to wear while in hospital after the birth. Forget the fluffy slippers, and pack a pair of stylish Birkenstock Gizehs in Silver. They will go everything including your pajamas, they look sensational, they are easy to slip into while carrying your gorgeous new baby (also especially helpful if you've just had a cesarean) and will make you feel great too ~ And by-golly you need all the help you can get directly after childbirth!

The benefits of Birkenstock do not stop after childbirth either, you will probably find yourself out walking with the pram or stroller most days, and you will be so glad to have great feeling feet and to have sandals that you can slip straight into without fussing around with buckles or laces, especially when baby might be unsettled. Once baby is walking, you can then give him or her the best start in life with their own pair of Birkenstocks!

How To Make A Form For Making Concrete Bricks

It's very easy to make your own concrete bricks, pavers or stepping stones. One item you will need is a form in which to cast your project. You may need more than one and you may need them in different sizes.

Let's use a patio paver for an example. Let's say your patio design requires cement stones that are 8 x 8 and 8 x 16. Here's how you would go about making these forms very easily.

Buy some cheap furring strips at your home center. These are eight feet long and 2.5 inches wide. Also buy some 2 x 2. It's also eight feet long. Get some coarse-threaded screws 1.5 inches long.

From this stock you'll cut two pieces eight inches long and two pieces 20 inches long for each form you want to make. You will also cut four pieces of 2 x 2 that are 2 inches long. The only measurement that has to be fairly accurate is when you cut the eight inch pieces. The rest can be approximate.

Put two of the eight inch pieces together back to back. Put two 2 x 2's at each end so it looks like a capital I. Now you know where the 2 x 2's go, take one eight inch piece and put it on its end. Hold the 2×2 in the place you just had it while you pre-drill two holes and attach the screws. You want the edge of the 2 x 2 and the end of the eight inch piece to be flush. Assemble the other three ends the same way.

Put the assembled pieces back to back again in a capital I. Spread them apart until you have a measure of 16 inches between them. Now screw the 20 inch long pieces on with one screw in the middle of the 2 x 2 so you miss the screws you have already put into it.

That's all you need to make your 8 x 16 forms. When you want to use the 8 x 8 forms, just unscrew the 20 inch side pieces and measure your 8 inch pieces to be 8 inches apart. Pre-drill a hole and screw them to the 2 x 2's as before.

If you decide you want an 8 x 4, you just slide the eight inch pieces to that measure. You could use this form for any 8 by "X" size brick from one inch to 16 inches.

What about the thickness? What if you do not want cement bricks that are 2.5 inches thick? There are two ways to handle this.

One way is to only fill the forms to the depth that you want your brick to be thick. You could make a sight line on the wood to know when you've hit the right depth. If your bricks turn out to be of varying thickness, do not worry. You can compensate when you lay them.

The second way is to trim the wood to the proper width on a table saw. If you have a table saw, you can use any wood you can find, even boards from old pallets will be fine, and save the expense of buying the furring strips.

Have fun with your project!

Sterling Silver And Rhodium Plated Jewelry – Caring For Your Jewelry

Overview Of Sterling Silver Jewelry Care

Silver in all its luminous apparitions, has co-ruled alongside gold for more than 6000 years as the 'Queen of Precious Metals'. However, of all silver's heirs it is sterling silver with its intrinsic beauty, value and durability, that has ensured itself a place in the history books as one of the most popular mediums of personal adornment.

Owning a prestigious item such as sterling silver jewelry should be undertaken with an eye on the future. Like all precious metals, sterling silver's value increases with time, and one day your jewelry could well become a priceless family heirloom, so looking after it now can only pay dividends in the future. However, to understand the proper care and maintenance of your sterling silver jewelry it is first necessary to look into sterling silver's background.

Both silver and sterling silver are precious metals, and both are closely related, but they are not the same. Pure silver is quite soft and because of this will not hold its shape; sterling silver was invented as a more durable form of this highly malleable and lustrous metal, lending its hardwearing properties to the creation of frequently worn jewelry.

Sterling silver is 92.5 percent true silver; the remaining 7.5 percent is interpreted of an alloy, usually copper or zinc. Sterling silver tarnishes, this is caused by a reaction between the silver and the sulfur containing oxygen particles of the air. The following guide gives you some useful advice on keeping your sterling silver gemstone jewelry in the state you want for future generations.

Storage

Store your sterling silver jewelry in a dark, cool place away from direct sunlight or other sources of extreme heat such as radiators. A perfect place is in a jewelry box in amongst your clothes.

Sterling silver jewelry, as is the case with all fine jewelry, should be stored separately in a separate compartment in a jewelry box or in its own soft pouch. Not doing this will ever result in scratches, or even breaks if there are gemstones in the jewelry.

Never store your sterling silver jewelry in paper, cardboard, or cotton filled boxes, as these contain trace elements of sulfur. For best results, place the items in a sealed, airtight plastic bag or jeweler's sulfur-free tissue prior to boxing and wrapping.

Cleaning & Polishing

Over time, sterling silver will develop a mellow patina caused by 'Oxidization', which results in an 'Antique' look where tarnish builds up in the fine details giving your sterling silver jewelry a beautifully unique air. You may or may not appreciate this aspect; you should consider this before making any attempts at cleaning your jewelry.

The best way to reserve and encourage the tarnished 'Antique' look to sterling silver jewelry can be done by not cleaning the jewelry with water, and not wearing the jewelry in the shower or bath.

The best way to prevent tarnish is to wear your sterling silver jewelry as often as possible.

If your sterling silver does become tarnished, it is easily restored to its former glory by using warm water with a mild soap, rinsing it and then making sure to thoroughly dry it with a fine soft cloth. Soaking is discouraged.

Use a soft cloth, similar to the cloth provided with spectacles, in light even strokes for cleaning the wider surface area, and cotton buds or Q-tips in the same manner for getting in to more difficult corners.

Never use tissues or hard brushes, including toothbrushes, when cleaning or polishing your sterling silver, as they will leave scratch marks. This is especially important if there are gemstones such as pearls mounted into your jewelry.

Polishing should be done quickly, and all traces of polish should be removed afterwards. Leaving tracks of polish behind can dull the design by clogging engraved areas.

Silver pastes, treated polishing cloths or other sterling silver cleaning materials should be used under the guidance of your local jeweler, this is especially true if there are gemstones as these chemicals can destroy them.

The Dos' & Don'ts

Always take your sterling silver jewelry off before applying suntan lotion, skin creams, and swimming in chlorinated or salt water.

Never wear your jewelry when working with detergents, bleaches, ammonia or alcohols; these chemicals will cause discoloration, damage and loosen any gemstones.

Never use an ultrasonic cleaner, ammonia or any chemical solution to clean opaque gemstones, such as turquoise, malachite, onyx, lapis lazuli and opals. They are a porous stone and may absorb chemicals, which build up inside the stone and cause discoloration. Simply wipe them gently with a moist soft cloth until clean.

Rhodium Plated Sterling Silver Care

Some sterling silver jewelry is plated with rhodium; This is designed to make your jewelry tarnish resistant. Caring for rhodium-plated sterling silver jewelry requires a different approach than non-plated sterling silver jewelry.

Clean it with a soft polishing rag or fine cleaner, but never use chemical based silver cleaners because this will damage the rhodium finish and also the inlaid gemstones.

If you own antique sterling silver jewelry or rhodium plated sterling silver jewelry we recommend that you seek expert advice from your local jeweler who will be able to instruct you on the best brands of jewelry cleaning products in your area.

Difference Between Hot and Cold Lamination

You can use cold or hot lamination depending on your need and your budget. In hot lamination, the item you want to laminate is subject to heat. However, if you use cold lamination the item is subjected to pressure. For both techniques, you require a film to laminate the material. The thicker the film, the firmer will be the lamination and its durability will increase.

Hot lamination

To laminate a material using hot lamination you need hot laminating film. This technique can be divided into standard and special low melt hot lamination. Standard lamination is used for everyday purposes while special low melt technique is used on items that cannot be subjected to heat. For instance, it is best that you avoid using standard hot lamination on photographs.

The film that is used in this process has two layers – the adhesive resin layer and the polyester layer. The material is placed between the layers which are then placed in the machine that melts adhesive in the sheet. The machine also spreads the adhesive evenly over the item. Since the machine can generate a temperature of up to 300 degree Celsius, it is important that trained personal handle the machine. The process is complete when the aggressive dries up and becomes cold.

This technique is usually cheaper than cold lamination and the items laminated using this technique is more durable. The biggest disadvantage of using this technique is that it cannot be used for material that is sensitive to heat or have inkjet ink. If you use this technique on inkjet ink paper, the ink in the paper may melt. This technique is more time-consuming than cold lamination because you must heat the machine before you start the process.

Cold Lamination

Cold lamination is a simple procedure that helps you get laminated documents in a few minutes. To laminate a document using this technique, you must place the document in the cold lamination machine. After the document is placed in the machine, you have to set the attributes depending upon the shape and the size of the document. If you have a limited budget, you can also use cold roll laminator to laminate the document.

The best part about using this technique is that it can be used for all documents. Paper that have inkjet ink and heat sensitive material can be easily laminated using this technique. It is a simple procedure and can be easily performed by people who have no formal training. Other advantages of using cold lamination machine are that they require little maintenance and are safe. The biggest disadvantage of using this technique is that it is expensive when compared to hot lamination. Also, the chances of bubble formation are high during this technique.

The hot and cold lamination machines have their own advantages and disadvantages. Your choice of machine will depend on your budget and your requirements.

The Most Suitable Eyebrow Shapes For the Face

Eyebrows are an important feature of the face because they give the face its shape and frame the facial features of eyes, nose, cheeks, mouth and chin. The eyebrows are one of the few facial features that can be shaped to enhance the beauty of the face.

To achieve the most flattering effect it is important to consider both face shape and eye types. The perfect eyebrow shape is closely related to the actual shape of the face. The basic eyebrow shape is also determined on the bone structure of the face. Below are descriptions and illustrations of eyebrow shapes which are most appropriate for different shaped faces.

Oval – A perfectly balanced face shape

Round – Well-rounded full cheek and chin area; face length is relatively short

Oblong – Longer than wide; face has same width across the forehead, jaw line, and cheekbone

Square – Width of the cheeks and forehead are similar; width of the jaw line and forehead being alike as well

Heart – Fuller and wider at the forehead tapering down to the cheeks then down to a pointed chin

Diamond – Widest at the cheekbones and equally narrow at the forehead and jaw line

Discover the Shape of the Face

OVAL Face Shape

The oval frame is considered to be the perfectly balanced face; the top half balances the bottom half. The oval face is characterized by being slightly wider at the cheekbones than the forehead or jaw-line. It also appears slightly wider at the cheek-line and tapers slightly to the chin.

Perfect Eyebrow Shape for an Oval Face

Oval face shapes can get away with just about any eyebrow shape. Oval is the ideal face shape and any natural shape of the eyebrow works well with an oval face. Oval is the perfect model frame.

ROUND Face Shape

The round frame has a large-curved forehead with a rounded chin, thus making the face look full with very few angles. The cheekbones are undoubtedly wider than the eyebrow bone and jaw line. When measuring a round face there is little difference between the width of the face and the vertical measurement. The face is almost as wide as it is long.

Objective Proportion – Create more definition. Flatter your round frame by creating an oval appearance that will lift the facial features and lengthen the face shape to give an image of a thinner look.

Perfect Eyebrow Shape for a Round Face

Apply an eyebrow line that goes up the face by arching the eyebrow high and leaving the tapering part small. The center of the arch should move out towards the end of the eyebrow while the end should be short. A high arched eyebrow shape will draw attention away from the width of the face.

OBLONG Face Shape

The oblong frame is longer than it is wide and close to the same width across the forehead, jaw line and cheekbone. The oblong shape may have a very narrow chin or a very high forehead. Having a prominent chin also characterizes an elongated appearance.

Objective Proportion -Have the oblong face appear shorter and broader.

Perfect Eyebrow Shape for an Oblong Face

To make a long face appear oval one should apply horizontal lines to the face. Apply an eyebrow line that is flat and keep the arch low; this stops the eye from going up the face. A flat eyebrow opens the eyes horizontally to give the appearance of an oval face. This eyebrow shape will draw the eye from side to side and stop it from going up and down.

SQUARE Face Shape

The square frame has a broad forehead and jaw line and tends to have sharper angles in the corners of the face. The width of your cheeks and forehead will be similar. The width of your jaw line and forehead may also be similar, thus giving an angular overall appearance with the rectangular face being longer than it is wide.

Objective Proportion – Create an illusion of length. Soften the angles giving the illusion that both the forehead and jaw line appear narrower.

Perfect Eyebrow Shape for a Square Face

A thick eyebrow is best suited for a square frame face with a strong jaw line. The peak of the eyebrow is most effective when positioned exactly above the square of the jaw. This eyebrow shape will balance out the square appearance of the face and soften the facial contours.

HEART Face Shape

The heart frame is fuller and wider at the forehead tapering down to the cheeks, then down to a narrow and pointed chin. The jaw line on this facial shape is not usually prominent. This facial frame has a narrow chin that leads up to a broad forehead and the cheekbones are very visible.

Objective Proportion – Create an illusion of a narrower forehead and fuller jaw line. Diminish the width at the forehead and create a wider, fuller jaw effect of the face.

Perfect Eyebrow Shape for a Heart Face

Rounding the eyebrows with softer peaks is best suited for a heart shape face. A rounded shape helps by adding curves to soften the face plus emphasizes the lovely heart shape.

DIAMOND Face Shape

The diamond frame is a cross between a heart and dramatic oval shaped face. It is widest at the cheekbones and narrow equally at the forehead and jaw line. The face is highly angular with a short forehead and being widest at the temples. The cheekbone is clearly wider than the forehead and jaw line.

Objective Proportion – Create an illusion to reduce the width around the cheekbone line.

Perfect Eyebrow Shape for a Diamond Face

There are two suitable shapes; rounding the eyebrows will soften the angular face or keep emphasis on the center arch of the eyebrow to balance the width of the face or a peaked eyebrow will help narrow the width of the distinctive diamond wide face.

Enhancing Eyebrow Growth

Having fuller, thicker and healthier eyebrows easily makes the shaping of the eyebrow process more manageable and less tedious. Women who have the misfortune of thinning eyebrows, eyebrow loss or over plucking of the eyebrows, Talika Eyebrow Lipocils Conditional Gel can help to achieve thicker healthier eyebrows. The gel will stimulate eyebrow growth making them thicker and healthier. For women who are looking for an instant fuller eyebrow effect Talika Eyebrow Extender will make the eyebrows look naturally thicker; your look is deeply intensified. The Eyebrow Extender is the perfect alternative to liners and tattoos.

3 Kinds Of Wood Used In Real Wood Furniture

Real wood furniture is the most popular furniture in
existence. It's been around for hundreds of years and
probably exhausted when the cave people got tired of squatting
on the dirt floor of their caves and looked around for a
better way.

The woods that are fashioned into furniture fall into three
categories:

1. Hardwoods

2. Softwoods

3. Composites

Even the term 'hardwood' or 'softwood' is deceptive.
Hardwoods are not necessarily harder, denser material. For
example, balsa wood is one of the lightest, least-dens
woods there is, and it's considered a hardwood. Technically,
lumber is classified based on how the tree reproduces. As a
general rule, though, softwood trees are evergreen year
round while the hardwoods create the gorgeous autumn foliage
that we all love so much.

Hardwoods are considered the highest quality and are the
most expensive. Their natural colors vary from the darkest
woods to the lightest ones and and they can be stained or
painted for even more variety. Hardwood furniture is least
likely to warp or bend and is prized in all high quality
homes. The five woods most commonly used in furniture
production are cherry, walnut, oak, maple and mahogany.

Softwoods are less expensive than hardwoods, but they are
require extra care. Because they are less durable, it's much
easier to scratch or dent softwood furniture. In addition,
they often do not have the beautiful grains of a hardwood,
and therefore do not stain as beautifully.

Pine is an example of a softwood that is commonly used for
furniture. These woods are often used in construction as
well so the choicest pieces are reserved for furniture. In
construction, knots and splits are common. Lots of
construction lumber will not accept paint and this kind of
wood is used for shelves or packing crates.

The softwood used in furniture is designated as "Appearance"
lumber and includes most softwood lumber that has been
custom milled to a pattern or other surfaced on all four
sides.

Composites are the cheapest form of wood and are literal
manufactured, rather than grown.

1. Plywood: multiple layers of thin wooden sheets are glued
together and pressed. Plywood is strong and resists
swelling, shrinking and warping. There is some furniture
made directly from plywood, but generally it is only used as
a support when incorporated into furniture.

2. Particle board: sawdust and small wood chips are mixed
with glue or resin which is then shaped and pressure
treated. When used for inexpensive furniture, particle board
is usually covered with laminate or veneer. This is
necessary because particle board splits easily and the
laminate prevents splitting. However, the downside is that
the laminate may separate from the wood because the particle
board responds to temperature and pressure changes by
swelling and shrinking.

3. Hardboard: is made like particle board but it's placed
under higher pressure so it's stronger.

4. MDF or Medium Density Fiberboard: wood particles are
bonded with resin and compressed. It is harder than particle
board or hardboard, and can be cut like plywood despite it
is not as strong as plywood. Some MDF is covered with
melamine which is a durable plastic in a variety of colors.
The exposed edges of MDF are rough and need covering with
molding or some other decorative material.

Technically, furniture made from all of these wood products
is "real" wood furniture, even the composites. Prices and
quality range from the hardwoods down to the composites.
The higher you go up the spectrum, the more you can expect
to pay for your wood furniture. The good part, of course,
is that with proper care hardwood furniture will last for
decades or even generations. If you can afford it, always
choose hardwood furniture.

House Blessings – Bless Yours NOW!

It's time to kick the enemy out of our homes and our of family's lives. My wife and I recently bought an 85 year old Victorian home in Stephenville, Texas. We call it Vanderbilt Place and we run it as a rooming house. On New Year's Eve 2005, along with some friends, we prayed a blessing over the house. It made such a huge difference insofar as not only keeping the place occupied but also in the quality of renter we received from that day onward.

Later, after sharing this experience with a friend, a local business woman asked if we would pray with her over her business. Once we prayed, not only did productivity soar, but the strong ungodly element decreed dramatically, starting with the manager's resignation several months later.

In this message, I did not want to get too ritualistic, thereby possibly inviting some other religious devil. Consider this a model; feel free to customize it for your needs. So, I'm keeping it simple and duplicatable so that others might be able to bless THEIR home … people like YOU! Do not wait for Sunday to do something spiritual … we are the Church, NOT the buildings! Do not wait for a minister either … you Are one according to Scripture.

In America today, we tend to scream at societal issues and throw money at our problems. We do a great deal of finger pointing, too. What I'm suggesting is that, house by house, American Christians must take back what the enemy has stolen from us. Starting TODAY! As they say, if you want something you've never had, you've got to do something you've never done.

Single parents, grandfathers, college students alone in your dorm, apartment unwellers AND apartment managers or property owners – if you are a Christian, you have the authority to take dominion over your dwelling place. Do not delay. Gather some friends and a bottle of virgin olive oil from the kitchen and start praying and anointing as the Spirit leads … first your place, then THEIRS! There's power in agreement so, regardless of their conviction, go for it! If you like, have communion afterwards or sing some hymns. Here's what we're doing. Do likewise and be blessed!

1) TAKE AUTHORITY OVER SPIRITS THAT HAVE BEEN WELCOMED THROUGHOUT THE HOME'S HISTORY – LEAVE DOORS OPEN FOR THEIR ESCAPE. The Bible Declares, "Submit yourself to God, resist the devil and he will flee." Here's a prayer you can begin with:

In the Name of Jesus our Messiah, and by the power of His Blood and His Cross, and the Holy Spirit that raised Him from the dead and now dwells within us, we bind all spirits in the air, and the fire and the water, in the ground and the underground and the nether world, and we bind any satanic forces of nature that have been assigned to this dwelling place. You will steal from us no longer! In fact, you will repay us sevenfold, according to Eph 4; 28. "When the thief is done he must repay seven fold". That includes sevenfold time, energy, money, health and anything else stolen from God's children.

We break all generational and word curses, hexes, or spells, or any witchcraft or occult activity that have been invited into this house – on purpose or by accident – through the generations past.

We bind the interaction and interplay of demonic spirits within these walls. And we claim the protection of the shed Blood of Jesus Christ over this house and grounds, and over every person who ever spend so much as a few moments upon this property. May they receive God's blessing!

We call out to you, Holy Spirit. Come now and fill this place, never to leave! We pray this in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Here are a few Opening Scriptures you may choose to start with:
"Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ." (Romans 1: 7)

"Jesus said," Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will go in … "(Revelation 3:20)

2) PRAYER OF BLESSING WHILE ANOINTING WITH OIL

Most loving God, we thank you that through faith in your Son Jesus Christ, you make us all members of your eternal family. We give thanks for all the love that you send to draw our earthly families together, to heal us, and to heal those who have gone before us. Fill this house with your Divine presence, we pray. Pour out your love to deepen the fellowship shared here. Let your wisdom guide us, your trust free us, and your peace bless us, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

We owe this home to love and understanding. May its joys and sorrows be shared and the individuality of each person who lives and visits here appreciated.

We dedicate this home to work, and rest and play. May our home have joy and high fellowship, with kindness in its voices and laughter running within its walls.

We owe this home to friendly life. May its doors open in hospitality and its windows look out with kindness towards other homes and those who pass by its doors.

We owe this home to cooperation. May its duties be performed in love, its furnishings bear witness that the work of others ministers to our comfort, and its table remind us that God works with us for the supply of daily needs.

We dedicate this home to the appreciation of all things good and true. May the books bring wisdom, the pictures symbolize things beautiful, and the music bring joy and inspiration.

We dedicate the time and talent of those who live here to help build a world in which every family may have a home of comfort and fellowship.

We dedicate this home as a unit in the Church universal, an instrument of the Kingdom of God, a place of worship and Christian training and a threshold to the life eternal.

With our hearts turned toward you, so our thoughts rise in gratitude to God for this home, and in prayer for God's blessings upon it.

Following are s few Scriptures and Reflections about Homes and God's Care:

1. The Bible teachers us that a home is far more than a physical building.

Proverbs 24: 3-4

By wisdom a house is built,
and by understanding it is established;
by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.

2. We need God's presence, power and direction for our lives and homes to be fruitful.

Psalms 127: 1

Without the LORD builds the house,
those who build it labor in vain.
Without the LORD watches over the city,
the watchman stays wake in vain.

3. The Bible indicates that it is important to dedicate our homes to God. Before going into battle, the men in the Bible were warned to dedicate their homes!

Deuteronomy 20: 5

Then the officers will speak to the people, saying, 'What man is there that has built a new house and has not dedicated it? Let him go back to his house, lest he die in the battle and another man dedicate it. '

4. God told his people to write his word on the doorposts of their homes.

Many Jewish people today place a portion of God's Word on a parchment scroll in a container on the doorposts of their homes. They touch the scroll every time they go in or out to remind them that their homes belong to God, and what happens there is to be directed by God's Word.

Deuteronomy 6: 6-9

And these words which I command you this day shall be upon your hearts and you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall speak of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. And you shall bind them as a sign upon your hand, and they will be as frontlets between your eyes.

And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

5. When a person dedicates their house to God, we trust that God responds to their commitment. When Solomon dedicated the temple, God responded, speaking to him.

2 Chronicles 7:15

Now my eyes will be open [says the Lord] and my ears attentive to the prayer that is made in this place.
For now I have chosen and consecuted this house that my name may be there for ever; my eyes and my heart will be there for all time.

6. When people in the Early Christian movement gathered to teach and preach about Jesus, and to pray in the power of the Spirit, they often met in homes. Even today, there is a growing movement throughout the Western world – something our third world brethren have been doing for decades – meeting in homes or anywhere the Spirit leads them to.

Acts 5:42

And every day in the temple and at home they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ.

Acts 28: 30,31

[Paul] stayed two full years in his own rented quarters, and was welcoming all who came to him, preaching the Kingdom of God, and teaching concerning the Lord Jesus Christ …

7. Jesus can use our homes to minister to us and with us if we will welcome him.

Revelation 3:20

Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if any one answers my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.

8. In his teachings, Jesus presented home life as a model of what it means to live a life in God's presence and love.

John 14: 1-3

"Let not your hearts be troubled; believe in God, believe also in me.
if it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And when I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.

9. The Psalmist saw God's care in a similar way.

Psalms 91: 1-2

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High, who abides in the shadow of the Almighty, will say to the LORD, "My refugee and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust."

10. How will we use the homes God has loaned to us? Dedicating our homes to God is not a one-time act. It is an ongoing ministry!

Hebrews 13: 2

Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

11. We are accountable to God for the use of our homes and our hospitality. God honors those who conscrate the use of their homes to bless others in need.

Matthew 25: 31-46

"When the Son of man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious Throne.
Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate them one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats … Then the King will say to those at right hand, 'Come, O blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was … a stranger and you welcomed me … '
Then the correcteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see the … a stranger and welcome thee …? And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.

Final Prayer of Blessing:

Almighty God, we thank you for the desires of our hearts for this home and all who enter its doors, that all we have and do here may be in accord with your Divine plans, that this home and its residents may be truly and completely dedicated to you, and to serving your kingdom.

We ask you to strengthen them in this commitment. We pray to you, O God, for this home, its occupants and possessions, that you may bless and sanctify them, enriching them by your kindness in every way possible. Pour out on them, O Lord, heavenly dew in good measure, as well as an abundance of earthly needs.

Mercifully listened to their prayers, and grant that their needs be fulfilled.
As we come before you, Father, bless this home & every aspect of it,
cleansing any misdeeds of the past, and leaving it pure, fresh and holy.
Bless this house, just as you blessed the homes of Abraham and Sarah, of Isaac and
Rebecca, of Jacob and Rachel.
Within these walls, let your angels preside and stand watch over those who live and
spend time here, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The Character Dolls Of Kenner Parker Toys

Founded by three brothers in 1947, the Kenner Company produced several popular toys such as their popular building and construction toy sets in 1957 called the Girder and Panel, 1959's Give-A-Show projector, and 1963's the Easy-Bake Oven. Then in 1957, the company was acquitted by General Mills which also remarkably merged Kenner Products into its own Rainbow Crafts division wherein its first product after the merger was Play-Doh.

The first few dolls that Kenner produced were the 1972's vinyl Blythe doll which measured 11.5 to 12 inches. The doll came with different changeable hair and eye colors. This doll is one of the thought-after vintage collectibles which can reach several hundred dollars to acquire. Another doll it popularized in the same year was the 18-inch Gabbigale with a battery-operated talker. The doll was made of hard jointed plastic body with vinyl head, painted eyes, and rooted hair.

Still in 1972, Kenner also introduced the 6.5-inch Garden Gals which has a red watering can and then followed by the 18-inch tall Sweet Cookie. In 1973, 16-inch tall Baby Alive was launched which was a battery-operated drink-wet doll. It also introduced Stretch Armstrong which was composed of stretchable vinyl that can stretch as far as four feet and return to its original shape.

By the year 1977, Kenner acquired the license to manufacture action figures for Star Wars with the trilogy running from 1977 through 1985. The action figures measured 3.75 inches and became a standard in the industry that sells action figures. It also began manufacturing other actions figures based on the hit TV series The Six Million Dollar Man. The 13-inch doll characters were Lee Majors, Jamie Sommers, Oscar Goldman, Big Foot, Masketron Robot, Woman Robot, and Steven Austin. It also tried penetrating the toy car die-cast market by launching Fast 111 but it did not gain much of the market's response.

The Kenner dolls became more popular when it created action figures based on DC Comics' superheroes which were included in the series called the Super Powers Collection. Each action figure doll comes with an action feature such as throwing a punch when the doll's legs are squeezed. Other dolls that were also based on books and movies were 1978's Hardy Boys and 1981's Indiana Jones. Doll collectors who are fanatics of television series and movies will certainly appreciate collecting dolls from Kenner. Anyone who also has passion for unique action figures and dolls will find Kenner's battery-operated models amusing.

Hyperthyroidism Symptoms

The symptoms of hyperthyroidism can mimic other health problems. Often, a person with hyperthyroidism will be diagnosed with a heart, a depressive condition, or a digestive disorder before discovering that they have an overactive thyroid gland.

One of the most common symptoms of hyperthyroidism is sudden, unexpected weight loss even though appetite and food consumption remains the same or is increased. Usually, the patient will complain that they "just can not gain any weight even though I'm eating more."

Tachycardia, or rapid heartbeat exceeding 100 beats per minute, is also a common symptom of hyperthyroidism and can occur with the feeling of pounding of the heart ( palpitations ) or an irregular heartbeat ( arrhythmia ).

Other Common Symptoms of Hyperthyroidism:

  • Anxiety , depression , and brain fog or loss of mental clarity, are often experienced as a symptom of hyperthyroidism.
  • Changes in bowels habits, especially diarrhea and frequent bowel movements, have been reported. Abdominal bloating may also be an associated symptom of hyperthyroidism.
  • Changes in menstrual patterns in women have been identified as a symptom of hyperthyroidism. There are some indications that the sex hormones, testosterone and estrogen, levels in men can be affected by a thyroid disorder. " Low T " problems, for instance, may result from the body's inability to convert testosterone to estrogen. Thyroid conditions can interfere in hormonal conversions.
  • Fatigue and weakness is a commonly associated symptom of hyperthyroidism and other thyroid and autoimmune conditions.
  • If the thyroid gland enlarges as a result of hyperthyroidism, it can appear as a swapping ( goiter ) at the base of the neck. Sometimes this swelling is not clearly visible but wearing ties and scarves around the neck may be uncomfortable.
  • Increased susceptibility to heat has been recognized as a hyperthyroidism symptom.
  • Two signs associated with hyperthyroidism are dry, thinning hair and skin .

Why is hyperthyroidism overlooked as the source of many common symptoms?

There are three reasons that hyperthyroidism fails to be diagnosed. It is either not considered in a differential diagnosis, the sufferer experiences the symptoms of hyperthyroidism intermittently and may wait to seek treatment, or it is under-diagnosed.

One reason that hyperthyroidism is under-diagnosed can be blamed on lab test interpretation. When a lab value is categorized as within a "normal" range, this means that this lab range number is derived from an average of those having blood work in the past year. This "normal" range is determined using the lab values from supposedly sick people who have had their blood drawn. Obviously, there are flaws with this system so many doctors use functional ranges when interpreting their patient's blood work. This takes a little more effort on the doctor's part because it is not as simple as just looking at either the results are in the normal column or not. Finding a doctor who is cognizant of these functional lab ranges is vital for proper management of thyroid disorders.

Another reason hyperthyroidism is overlooked is that the sufferer may exhibit symptoms similar to other disease processes. For example, a person who complains of persistent diarrhea may be diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome. Another patient may express a depressive disorder and be under care with psychotropic medication. Sometimes, once a label has been given to a set of symptoms the investigation into other causative factors will end. It is then up to the sufferer to continue looking for other diagnostic and treatment options.

There are also many cases where the symptoms of hyperthyroidism will come and go. The person may disregard these symptoms until their condition deteriorates.

Hashimoto's thyroiditis is a condition that exhibits fluctuating thyroid symptoms with bouts of both hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism. Hashimoto's was discovered over a century ago but still remains relatively unknown to the American public. It is an autoimmune condition and is characterized by the immune system attacking and slowly destroying the thyroid gland. During an immune system attack, the damaged thyroid gland releases too much thyroid hormone into the body causing metabolism to rev up. This results in the common symptoms of hyperthyroidism ie a fast heart rate, weight loss, etc. When the attack eases, there is less of the thyroid gland left to make hormones so metabolic drops. This causes decreased metabolism. Lab tests will only show what is happening in the body at the time the blood is drawn. Lab values in a patient with Hashimoto's will fluctuate depending on what is happening at that time with the immune system's attack on the thyroid gland. This can make it difficult for an inexperienced medical practitioner to diagnoseose Hashimoto's based on routine bloodwork alone. Specific lab testing can confirm a diagnosis of Hashimoto's thyroiditis.

What are the causes of hyperthyroidism?

There are many causative factors for hyperthyroidism. The most common cause is an autoimmune condition called Graves' disease.

What is Graves' disease ?

Graves' disease is another autoimmune condition and the most common cause of hyperthyroidism. It occurs when the immune system commandeers or hijacks the role of the brain's pituitary gland which normally regulates the thyroid gland's hormone production. The antibody linked to Graves' disease is called thyrotropin receptor antibody or TRAb. TRAb can override the pituitary gland and cause too much production of thyroid hormone resulting in hyperthyroidism.

What are the symptoms of Graves' disease?

The symptoms of Graves' disease reflect the production of too much thyroid hormone being produced. Someone with Graves' disease may display a fine tremor of the hands or fingers. They may also experience warm, clammy skin or increased perspiration. Diarrhea is a common complaint along with frequent loose bowel movements. Some symptoms that are shared by both hypothyroid and hyperthyroid conditions include:

  • Fatigue
  • Menstrual cycle changes
  • Reduced libido

There are some overt symptoms of Graves' disease that are pathognomonic or peculiar to this condition. Rarely, people develop Graves' dermopathy which is characterized by thick, red patches of skin usually on the legs and feet. There is also Graves' opthalmopathy which causes bulging eyes, dry / red eyes, excessive tearing, fixed stare, puffy eyelids, pressure or pain around the eyes, light sensitivity, and double vision. More rare symptoms and signs include blurry vision and corneal ulcers.

It seems like the most common causes for both hyperthyroidism (Graves' disease) and hypothyroidism (Hashimoto's thyroiditis) are based in a body's faulty immune system. How can the immune system be treated and can the symptoms of hyperthyroidism be relieved?

The immune system as well as the affected systems of the body can be supported and the symptoms of thyroid conditions can be improved. There is a branch of healthcare called functional medicine that involves all the different functions of the body. By detecting weaknesses in these functions through lab testing, the body's systems can be supported with treatment resulting in improved health.

In practice, we are seeing many more patients, both male and female, with thyroid disorders in general. What is most disconcerting is the younger ages of these patients. Whereas thirty years ago middle-age women were the group most affected, now many seeking treatment are in their teens and 20's.
