Ingredients of Your Chinchilla Dust Bath

Although rain rarely visits the dry and rocky environment of the Andes Mountains in South America, wild chinchillas have adapted and managed to make the most out of their environment. For the various succulents covering the area alone, these have evolved in such a way that whenever precious water is available, either growing vast roots underground to soak every drop, growing very close to the ground for immediate access, or storing the water in their juicy flesh. For wild chinchillas, eating some succulents replaces drinking. And since water is hard to come by, grooming includes bathing in the fine sand and ash scattered about.

Since many chinchillas have been bred in captivity and domesticated, companies and pet owners have tried to mimic aspects of their natural habitat by providing them with a variety of special chinchilla dust baths available in pet stores.

Chinchilla’s fur is rich and thick, helping them insulate their bodies against extreme temperatures, protecting their sensitive skin from bacteria and parasites. Unlike other domestic animals, you cannot wash your pet chinchillas with water or shampoo. Their skin is prone to bacterial and fungal infection with moisture. This is why, even when in the wild, chinchillas roll in fine dust to clean. Chinchilla dust is formulated in such a way that it does not dry out your pet’s coat, only absorbing and stripping away excess oil, dirt, and moisture.

Most chinchilla dust baths available in the market today usually have the vague phrase “natural chinchilla dust” written under the ingredients portion of the label. In the wild, the dust they roll around in is composed of either fine volcanic ash or eroded pumice rock found in the area; or a mix of both. Some products are made of grounded pumice rock. The “Chinchilla Bath Sand” product claims that it is made entirely out of “100% Natural Volcanic Mountain Pumice found in the Andes Mountains.” The tagline also includes that such an ingredient is “dust free” lessening the trouble of dust flying around during bathing time.

For other products like “Sun Seed Sunthing Special Chinchilla Dust Bath”, the product lists ‘Fuller’s earth” as an ingredient. This is a mineral that is known to be capable of absorbing oil, moisture, and other impurities; also added in some cosmetics, powders and pharmaceuticals. Interestingly, movie sets also use the powdered mineral to simulate larger and cheaper explosions. For other uses in pet care, the ingredient is also known to be in cat litter and other pet powders.

Other possible ingredients put in the mix of chinchilla dust include either a portion of really fine sand or fragrances. Be wary of cheap knock-offs that are only made of sand as this doesn’t really do a good job in cleaning your pet chinchilla. The Kaytee and Pet Scentsations brands offer various chinchilla dust baths with scents ranging from melon, to raspberry and vanilla. Other brands state their products to be environment-friendly and all-natural. These are great considerations in choosing the perfect chinchilla dust variety for you.

Chinchilla dust is usually affordable depending on the size you require or would like to keep in stock. Prices range from approximately $4 (for about 30 ounces) to about $30 (for a big sack of over 60 pounds of dust). Many pet owners usually try a variety of products to see which best suits the chinchilla they have.

Knowing what exactly is in the chinchilla dust bath you buy helps in understanding your chinchilla and its basic needs even better. And just like any good consumer, it pays to be on the look-out for only the best products available for your pet.

The Easiest Way to Measure for a Fireplace Grate

Making sure you have the correct measurements is a vital process when purchasing a brand-new fireplace grate. We will walk through the process to obtain the right measurements for a new fireplace grate.

You will need a few things to help you:

Measuring Tape for correct measurements, paper to write those measurements on and a pen or pencil to write with, and depending on the light levels in your room, a flashlight might help. We also recommend that you wear some clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty, because there is a good chance you will get dirty and sometimes that soot is hard to get out of your clothing.

Step 1 – Measuring the Width:

Measure the width of your fireplace opening in the very back of your fireplace and write this measurement down. Make sure to get as far back as possible for the most precise dimensions, this is where the flashlight might be helpful.

Measure the width of your fireplace opening at the front of your fireplace and write this measurement down.

Now that you have both the back width and front width, deduct 6 inches from each dimension. If, for example, your front width is 42 inches, then you would subtract 6 inches, which would offer you a final width of 36 inches. If the rear width is of 38 3/4, you would round to the next whole number then subtract 6 inches for the final 32 inches.

You will need the rear width to make sure you are purchasing the right grate size, as they can be found in numerous various back widths. Some fireplaces have a radical taper and some fireplaces have no taper at all.

NOTE: The most common mistake when ordering a fireplace grate is to only look at the front width and ignore the rear width in a tapered fireplace. This typically ends up in a costly return after paying shipping. Be sure to confirm that all measurements before ordering.

Keep in mind that fireplace grates are categorized by their front width, you may need to look at several sizes before you find one that will fit your fireplace.

Step 2 – Measuring the Depth:

Measure the depth of your fireplace from the fireplace door, or from the beginning of the fireplace opening and write this measurement down.

Now that you have your depth dimension, deduct 6 inches from this measurement.

Ideally, you want to have about 3″ on all sides of the grate to ensure appropriate feature & air flow.

Step 3 – Find your Grate:

With these dimensions, you now have a guide to start searching for a new fireplace grate! We hope this short article was valuable to you.

Building Sales Skills – SINALOA – Safety in Numbers and Law of Averages

Many years ago I was sitting in a big hall, with a lot of people, listening to a famous speaker, salesman, and marketer named Larry Thompson. He said that there is a little state in Mexico called Sinaloa and that before we left that room we would lock that into our brain and never forget it.

I thought, "Oh yeah, as if !!" but more than a decade later I still remember.

It represents one of the most basic lessons in sales that anyone who is going to sell anything, or who works with marketing, needs to know.

He said it is the name of a town but also an acronym, SINALOA, It stands for Safey In Numbers And Law Of Averages.

What does it mean? It means that you will never be secure in sales if you do not have numbers working for you rather than against you.

If you need to do 5 sales a week you have really good people to talk with then talking to 5 may give you the results you need but ….. if just 1 person does not go forward then you fall short of your goal.

If you expect everyone to buy from you but you still talk with 10 then you only need half to commit and you will achieve your numbers.

If you want to be successful you need to have lots of prospects, lots of people to talk to, lots of people thinking about what you are offering and a lot of people who are seriously considering taking what you offer.

It gets back to the old adage, "the harder you work the luckier you get."

Jim Rohn, the motivational philosopher, says "If you're the best salesman and you close 9 out of 10 people you talk with, and I'm new and I close 2 out of ten, then we can have a competition and over a month I'll beat you. Why? Because I'll talk to more people than you do. If you talk to 10, I'll talk to 100, you'll get your 9 and I'll get my 20. "

This is what Safety In Numbers means.

The second half of the acronym is LOA – Law Of Averages.

It works like this; if you sell widgets and make $ 100 for very one you see then have a profit number to work with.

If you're going door to door then, if you have a good product, a normal sort of exit is that for every 10 doors you knock on 3 people are likely to agree to look at what you offer.
If you then present to those 3, and do it well, then you are likely to make 1 sale.

Now the question – If you make one sale that day then have you made $ 100 on the sale or have you made $ 10 from it?

It you need to knock on 10 doors to get enough prospects to be able to make 1 sale then knocking on 20 doors you are expecting to make 2 sales, $ 200. If you think about this and realize that final profit is directly related to the number of doors you knock on. You need to knock 10 doors to make $ 100 then you are actually getting $ 10 per door.

You knock the first door and they say "No, we already have one".
You say "Thank you for the $ 10".

You knock on the second door and they set up a time to look.
You say "Thank you for the $ 10".

You knock the third door and they yell at you and call their dog to attack you.
As you run out the gate you say "Thank you for the $ 10".

This is the Law Of Averages.

These two things are very basic and we are all familiar with the idea but we need to keep them close to our heart if we are going to be successful in the long term.

A little state of Mexico, SINALOA, that few of us will ever visit, is a guide to us in a career in sales and marketing.

Health Insurance Companies Are Now Using Biometric Technology to Approve Or Deny You Coverage

The next time you apply for individual health insurance will be prepared for a variety of preliminary evaluation testing procedures to see if the insurer will reject or accept you including: testing of blood, urine, presence of alcohol or smoking, and evaluating your genetic composition.

In the individual private healthcare market there is the concept of health insurance medical underwriting. It involves assessing and quantifying a prospective applicant who is applying for coverage as a potential liability or risk to the insurer by a professional underwriter. The process is similar to applying for a loan from a commercial bank. There are basically three types of risk the insurer will screen for.

(1) Physical Risk; The primary concern regarding the applicable. In this context the issue is in regards to the medical condition of the proposed insured or a propensity towards cancer determined by family history.
(2) Morale Risk; A potential insider would forgo consideration of an application alt if there is any explicit or implicit evidence of the applicant involved in hazardous avocations, sports, or occupations.
(3) Moral Risk; An insurer will definitely attempt to avoid the speculation of insuring an applicant who has an inclination to suicidal tendencies, criminal behavior, and certain lifestyle habits or tendencies.

For years insurers predicated on the reliance of multiple sub-systems derived from strategic cumulative integration of intelligent computers to draw their conclusions for the purpose of risk assessment. A new technology currently in experimental phases funded through Kaiser University has discovered a statistical method to ascertain and unify all three risk categories in unison during real time for the purpose of medical underwriting by utilizing genetically calculated risk scoring algorithms. It is a highly interoperable biometric screening application interconnected to a plurality of relational healthcare databases. The silicon apparatus utilizes an infrared thermal touch screen sensor as a biometric identifier that verifies the integrity of an applicant's personal genetic profile with razor sharp precision by credentialing his or her fingerprints against federal law enforcement regimes, national automated verification systems, and a compilation of tabulated DNA repositories.

DNA?

Humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes containing their DNA blueprint. One member of each chromosomal pair comes from their mother, the other comes from their father. Every cell in a human body contains a copy of this DNA. The large majority of DNA does not differ from person to person, but 0.10 percent of a person's entire genome would be unique to each individual. This represents 3 million base pairs of DNA. In clinical studies this percentage has proved to be meaningful enough to structurally composite predictive valuations of significant importance to an insurance company including approximating personal behavioral tendencies, psychological proficiency, and expectation of mortality or morbidity. It has been so proficient in screening risk that a law was recently passed to protect employees and insured applicants from its discriminatory prejudice known as the Genetic Information Non Discriminatory Act. However, the act is convoluted by pretenses directly or indirectly imposed by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act which places little restriction on the information that can be shared by HIPPA covered entities.

What Does My DNA Have To Do With My Health Insurance?

Over the last few decades insurance carriers began data warehousing many of the popular DNA databases such as the Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System and CODIS with mixed usage proprietary commercial datasets such as Ingenix, Physician Computer Network, Intelliscript, Medical Information Bureau, and even Secure Flight Passenger Data compiled by The Transportation Security Administration. The so called purpose of this was for authentication and with the recent caveat of electronic health records identity theft, authenticity of an applicable was the alibi insurance companies needed to exploit and get away with this, at the same time create a more robust underwriting system. Just remember the next time you visit the general practitioner you signed a petition form authorizing all parties managing your care to share knowledge regarding your health which in unique circumstances grants special permissions to all parties above.

How This New System Works.

A fingerprint is made of a number of ridges and valleys on the surface of the finger. Ridges are the upper skin layer segments of the finger and valleys are the lower segments. The ridges form so-called minutia points: ridge endings (where a ridge end) and ridge bifurcations (where a ridge splits in two). Many types of minutiae exist, including dots (very small ridges), islands (ridges slightly longer than dots, occupying a middle space between two temporary divergent ridges), ponds or lakes (empty spaces between two temporary divergent ridges), spurs (a notch protruding from a ridge), bridges (small ridges joining two longer adjacency ridges), and crossovers (two ridges which cross each other ).The unequeness of a fingerprint can be determined by the pattern of ridges and furrows as well as the minutiae points. There are five basic fingerprint patterns: arch, tented arch, left loop, right loop and whorl. Loops make up 60% of all fingerprints, whorls account for 30%, and arches for 10%. Fingerprints are usually considered to be unique, with no two fingers having the exact same dermal ridge characteristics. The biometric device measures kinetic heat frequencies from an applicants touch distributed through minutia points and automates a recognition key cipher query from ridges through a call interface dispatched by an encrypted terminal control program. Basically, the examiner will inquire based on the information presented to him and await an answer from the mainframe computer in remote proximacy. I do not know about you but somehow the thought of my data traveling around through a typical client / server type architecture does not make feel comfortable at all. Just imagine all the errors that can go wrong. The new system is ripe for exploits at at every social level in addition to invading all our rights of privacy as citizens, never mind qualifying for coverage.

There Is Something You Can Do.

If you do not want to insurance companies having access to your sensitive private health information among many other things such as your financial prowess, consumption, personality or lifestyle the first thing you might want to do is avoid applying with Kaiser Permanent or any of the fellow member insurance companies owned by National Electronic Information Corporation, it is bad enough we have to be arranged by The Medical Information Bureau just to even get health insurance in the first place.

The second thing you can do is visit our website to find more health insurance information or simply leave your information (for the purpose of protecting your privacy, you need not leave any other information you will not feel comfortable to share) We will be glad to provide competitive quote from Major Medical Insurance carriers who do not participate in this practice. Not all insurance carriers participate in this type of screening procedure but you probably will want to avoid the carriers that do as once you are in the system and that one place you do not want to be if you value your healthcare and how much you spend on it.

List of Pus and Mucus-Forming Foods

The word “mucus” is from the Latin mucus which means “slime, mold, snot, etc.” Mucus refers to a thick, viscous, slippery discharge that is comprised of dead cells, mucin, inorganic salts, water, and exfoliated cells. It also refers to the slimy, sticky, viscous substance left behind by mucus-forming foods in the body after ingestion. The word “pus” is from late 14c. Latin “pus” (related to puter [putrid] “rotten”), from Proto-Indo-European*pu- compared to Sanskrit. puyati “rots, stinks,” putih “stinking, foul.” Pus often refers to a thick white, yellowish, or greenish opaque liquid produced in infected tissue, consisting of dead white blood cells, bacteria, tissue debris, and serum. It also refers to the substance that dead animal flesh is chemically changed to after being consumed or while rotting in one’s digestive tract. The ingestion of meat and dairy products create pus residue in the body, while starchy and fatty foods are mucus-forming.

The word “mucusless,” or mucus-free, refers to foods that are not mucus-forming. Such foods digest without leaving behind a thick, viscous, slimy substance called mucus. These foods include all kinds of fat-free, and starchless, fruits and vegetables.

All foods that are pus/mucus-forming are acid-forming. The word “acid” is from the early 1600s meaning “of the taste of vinegar,” from French acide (16c.) or directly from Latin acidus “sour, sharp,” adjective of state from acere “to be sour,” from PIE root *ak- “sharp, pointed” (see acrid). In chemistry it refers to a class of substances whose aqueous solutions are characterized by a sour taste, the ability to turn blue litmus red, and the ability to react with bases and certain metals to form salts. Here is a list of foods that many people do not realize create mucus:

  • Rice (great for creating glue to bind books, bad for the transition to a mucus-free diet)
  • Avocados (fatty item that may be used on the transition, but are highly addictive. Although technically a fruit, if used it is best to combine them with a mucus-free combination salad or vegetables to aid elimination. However, it is recommended to stay away from them if you are not already stuck to them.)
  • Nuts (Mucus-forming, but may be used on the transition. It is best to eat with dried fruits like raisins to aid with elimination.)
  • Plantains (Starchy)
  • Tofu (Slimy and mucus-forming.)
  • Un-ripened fruits like green bananas (the riper the fruit you eat the better).
  • Corn (It does not eliminate well. When cooked corn or corn chips are eating it becomes mushy and slimy in the intestines.)
  • Corn chips (Some people use them on the transition, but they are very addictive and do not eliminate well)
  • Beans (They are starchy and mucus-forming. But, they may be used sparingly on the transition within close proximity to green-leafy salads)
  • Starchy Vegetables (Some vegetalbes are starchy and mucus-forming in raw or cooked forms, such as white potatoes. But, many other vegetables, such as sweet potatoes, become almost mucus-free (starchless) after proper cooking.

The Transition Diet

It is very important that people learn how to transition from the most harmful mucus-forming foods to the ones that leave behind the least amount of waste. To learn more about this transitional process, check out Arnold Ehret’s Mucusless Diet Healing System: Annotated, Revised, and Edited by Prof. Spira.

Bonnet Carpet Cleaning

While there are many methods of commercial carpet cleaning for your San Jose office or office building one of the most widely used techniques for professional carpet cleaning is the bonnet cleaning method.

As is well-known, you experience much more traffic in a commercial environment than you see in homes or apartments and there the cleaning must be equal to the needs, since many people will be viewing your carpets on a daily and weekly basis. Deep cleaning at the frequency with which commercial carpets need to be taken care of can ruin the carpet. Using the bonnet process, which is the use of absorbent pads, is the best and safest method to use in this environment.

The bonnet cleaning system is great when it comes to surface cleaning and will most likely be the answer to your San Jose's carpet cleaning needs since it is cost effective and rather simple and easy to do. It is also a very quick drying carpet cleaning process and that makes it even more beneficial for your business as you will have people coming and going at all times and in order to avoid any slips or falls from wet carpeting, this is the way to go .

If you have your own cleaning crew or company they can do this with ease purely by purchasing the equipment, unless you have very expensive, top of the line carpeting. If this is the case be sure to consult a professional carpeting cleaning company as they have the experience and can back up their work and performance with a guarantee.

While you will not be able to get all of the benefits of a deep cleaning, such as removal of organizations, soiling and dirt that is sunk deep in your carpets, you will have consistently clean and healthy looking carpets. Typical carpets do require that you have them deep cleaned once every twelve to fourteen months and it is wise to have this done, as well, and your carpets should keep their cleanliness much better with the regular bonnet cleaning you have done. Make sure to consult with your preferred San Jose carpet cleaning company in order to get the best advice on carpet cleaning and the right type of care for you and your carpeting. By keeping up with your carpets and helping them remain in as good shape as possible with regular maintenance you will be able to save money from repeated cleanings, repair of the carpet or any replacements you will have to pay for from the entire areas of carpeting or the padding below.

Make sure that the person who performs the bonnet carpet cleaning for you knows what they are doing and never over-wets the carpeting. The worry is not only the slips or accidents that can come about, but also the fact that mold and mildew love to grow in these wet and moist environments and if they take over you stand the chance of needing to replace both the carpet and padding for any and all affected areas.

Cotton Rugs – Why Prefer Them to Other Materials?

When you are tired of wearing warm socks and slippers around the house all day to keep you warm, you start to think about getting some carpeting. There are countless number of different materials you can choose from, some have synthetic fibers some are natural. Cotton rugs are as natural as it gets. Most cotton rugs that are sold in stores and online are made in India or China. They are very eco-friendly and are usually dyed with organic dyes and there are no chemicals used in the process of making them. Here is why you should prefer them:

  1. Cotton is the most environmentally friendly and totally natural material. Using cotton rugs is another step towards protecting our planet.
  2. These rugs are good for people who have allergies to wool or synthetic carpets. Also cotton does not trigger any allergies to different chemicals like some other materials do.
  3. It feels nice to walk on it barefoot or sit down around the fireplace on a cold winter night. Sometimes cotton is mixed with wool to make the rug softer and you feet feeling nicer.
  4. Cotton rugs are very easy to clean. You can just put it in your washer with other clothes and dry it at a low temperature to prevent shrinking. If there is a tag on the rug, clean it according to the instructions on the tag.
  5. These carpets come in many different styles and most of them are very colorful. They look especially good in kids rooms.
  6. Rugs that are made of cotton are one of the most affordable carpets. You can even make them yourself of old t-shirts or sweatpants.

Eco-Friendly Insulation

It’s always economical to have good insulation throughout your house. Unfortunately, many times your house either wasn’t insulated well enough or it’s insulated with things that aren’t eco-friendly, and that could cause other issues. But there are many green ways to insulate your home without using dangerous products.

One way to have your home insulated is by using recycled newspaper. The way that works is instead of single sheets of insulation, installers will blow it between your walls with a big hose. The more they can get in there, the better your walls will be insulated. You might have to deal with some newspaper dust for a couple of days, but once that’s settled it makes a fine way to protect your home.

Something else that can be used that’s relatively new is, believe it or not, mushrooms. Although this is very new technology that’s not widely available yet, what it will offer is a natural way to protect your home. It’s being developed to resemble packing material more than either sheet insulation or balls of insulation, which means it would work best being installed at the time a house is being built. Supposedly because of the density of mushrooms, the insulation wouldn’t have to be that thick and yet would still be very effective.

Another nice alternative to fiber glass insulation is insulation made out of cotton. There are some manufacturers who have been making insulation made out of cotton for years, which is a more dense type of material than what most of us are used to seeing. It costs a little bit more to produce, but it fills a house just as well as any other type of insulation, and is much safer for people overall.

Finally, something you probably wouldn’t have thought of is using insulation products that are soy based. It’s mixed in with a foam that’s sprayed into the walls, and can expand up to 100 times its normal size. That means you don’t have to use as much of it to insulate your home, and it will make a very tight seal between your walls. It also turns out to be water resistant and animal resistant, as it’s been found that the little nasty things that like to invade your home don’t like to eat it. If you go this route however, you might want to check with the people using it to ask them what percentage of soy is actually contained within the product.

Screened Porch Kits

Did you spend last summer not sitting on the porch because of bugs – especially mosquitoes? Maybe you did sit on the porch but simply felt it was too exposed for your taste. It was the case, then you really need to think about getting a screened porch kit before our outdoor time starts.

Porch enclosures are more than just putting up wood and stapling in some screening. You now have many options. Metal framing comes in various colors, wood comes in various types (eg, cedar), the roof can be insulated aluminum or flat pan, the screens can be fiberglass or solar, you can have insulated kick panels, and even include a doggy kitty) door.

It is important to consider your environment – especially if you live in an area with heavy snow or extreme weather conditions. The structure needs to be sturdy enough to withstand snow (and snow does weigh a lot) as well as large amounts of rain, or maybe even hail (if you live in an area where tornado activity is present).

Probably one of the best benefits of a porch enclosure is that your outdoor items including furniture, tables, decor, etc., are going to be protected from the elements – such as direct sunlight and heat. This alone is what makes a porch enclosure a great value. That and the longevity of use. This is why after you have installed your newest addition, it can easily be used as a warm and inviting sunroom, and / or have expired usage time to become a three-season porch.

As with any type of renovation, you can choose to do it yourself or hire someone to do it for you. In either case, a screened porch kit will be used – simply because a kit has all the necessary pieces. Having a plan is key since this will become an addition to the outside of your home. Take into account how the porch will look and the best way to make it really look like an integral part versus something that was just quickly put up.

Depending on what type of area you live in, you may need to get permission from a homeowner association as well. They will want to see the plans and – most importantly, know exactly how the outside will look. For example, are you using the same material as the outside of your home (eg, vinyl or wood) and will it be painted the same color. Do not be surprised if their response pushes you into make a more formalized plan – something you should be doing anyway.

Overall, a screened porch kit is an excellent investment – both from the additional usable footage it adds to your home (and it will increase the value of your home) and the enjoyment it will give you for years to come. It is amazing how one small change can bring about such quality of life.

Lumbar Multifidus Muscle: Key to Chronic Lower Back Pain?

A growing amount of research indicates that the lumbar multifidus muscle may be the key to many instances of chronic lower back pain.

The multifidus muscle stretches from the sacrum to the bottom of the skull and runs along the spine. Its thickest part is located in the lower back. Although relatively thin, this muscle is largely responsible for the alignment and stability of the spine; some estimate it is responsible for 2 / 3rds of spinal stability. Its superior layer supports alignment, while the defect layer is responsible for stabilization. By supporting the spine, the muscle takes undue pressure off spinal discs.

The multifidus mainly comes into play when bending backward, bending sideways and turning to one side. The muscle can become interrupted during these actions if the position is held for too long, if you are carrying an object or if the muscle is weak. Sports are a common reason for multifidus injury.

After any muscle is injured, it needs to be rested for a day or two to recover. What researchers are now considering is the possibility that the multifidus atrophies quickly after injury, meaning that those who do not take steps to rebuild the muscle post-injury are susceptible to recurrent back pain. The quick atrophy may be caused by the fact that the body readjusts posture and movement patterns to avoid pain.

A 2009 study by MacDonald et al thought to answer why 34% of people who experience lower back pain experience recurrence. They compared the multifidus muscle activity of healthy patients with those who have recurrent pain. The muscle normally activates before it is needed in order to prepare the spine. In the group with lower back pain, the muscle engaged later than in the healthy group. This lack of spinal support when needed increases the risk of further injury and pain.

The study can be found at http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19186001 .

Rebuilding the Multifidus

The loss of muscle size and strength due to atrophy combined with delayed activation may be liable for chronic lower back pain in many individuals. Any type of back pain or injury can lead to disuse of the multifidus, so strengthening this and other core muscles is a sound component of any back pain recovery plan.

The back bridge exercise engages the multifidus most. This exercise also engages the deep abdominal and gluteal muscles. The best way to prevent multifidus strain in the future, along with practicing proper body mechanics, is to develop the core muscle group as a whole; this will provide support to the muscle and ensure it is not compensating for other, makerer ones. See the Mayo Clinic's slideshow of core workouts at http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/core-strength/SM00047 . If your back pain is severe, you should consult a physical therapist to guide you through exercises that do not exacerbate your pain.

If you suffer chronic lower back pain, then your body has adapted to that pain by changing its movement patterns. In this case, less short-term pain means more long-term pain. A weak multifidus muscle leaves your spinal receptible to injury. Conditioning this and other core muscles could be the answer to your pain.

Toxic Black Mold Removal – Can You Do it Yourself?

If you have small areas of toxic black mold you can remove them yourself if you are very careful. Very large areas really need professional advice and removal. If you are going to attempt cleaning up your home of toxic black mold yourself then you need to be aware of the problems you may encounter and how to deal with them. You should always wear adequate protective clothing which includes gloves and breathing masks as it is important not to breathe in spores from the mold as they are very toxic. it is important that you not only remove all visible mold, but that you find any mold growing in hidden places such as in the walls or inside appliances such as air conditioners. You will also need to deal with the conditions that caused the toxic black mold to grow in the first place.

Identifying Damp Areas

The first thing to do before you even attempt to remove the black mold is to find out why it is growing and deal with these problems. Anywhere there is moisture that has accumulated can allow the black mold to grow so look for leaks in your roof or chimney, leaking pipes especially those that are hidden in walls and floors, condensation especially in bathrooms, blocked or leaking gutters etc. You should also check the humidity in your home and and make sure that it is below 55%. A hygrometer can be used for this and you should make sure that you check, not just the usual living areas, but also your basement, your attic, inside closets and cupboards especially those used for storing food and in your bathroom. If you find the humidity is above 55% then you will need to deal with this by using dehumidifiers. In bathrooms and basements make sure that you have adequate ventilation. Ensure that vents from air conditioners and clothes dryers lead to the outside so that they do not increase the moisture level in the air inside your home.

Toxic Black Mold Removal

Step one – Preventing Black Mold Spores From Spreading

Before you begin removal of the black mold you need to consider the ways that you are going to use to prevent any of the toxic spores from spreading through your home. Each room needs to be treated separately and you will need to seal off the room properly before you start. Shut off any ventilation systems and use heavy-duty plastic bags and duct tape to seal vents, windows and doors. You need to keep the dust levels as low as possible so before you start mist the area lightly mist with water to damp down any dust that may be caused during the removal process.

Step two – Removing the Black Mold

Once you have the room exceptionally sealed and the area to be treated damped down you can start to clean. Thoroughly cleaning using soap and then disinfect with a preparation specifically made to kill mold. Black mold may be growing in areas where it is not visible so you need to clean all the surfaces where the spores may have landed. After cleaning the areas thoroughly dry them. Non-porous materials such as plastics, metals, glass etc. can be reused. Some semi-porous materials, such as wood and concrete, may have been so damaged that they need to be replaced and many porous materials such as paper, ceiling tiles, carpets, insulation etc. can be so heavily damaged by black mold that they may also be unusable.

Disposing of Contaminated Materials

It is important that you do not dispose off contaminated materials in such a way that you reinfect other areas of your home. All contaminated material should be placed in heavy duty plastic bags and sealed carefully. Do not carry the infected materials through your house but use a window to place the bags directly outside. They can then be taken to a landfill for proper disposal.

Preventing Black Mold Regrowing

As we have noted earlier it is extremely important that you deal with any problems that have arisen that have allowed the black mold to thrive. In addition to repairing any broken pipes and gutters that may be causing more moisture in your home, plan on a regular tour of inspection to catch any black mold that is growing before it gets out of control. Include areas that you may not visit often such as basements, cellars and attics. Inspect your roof regularly for leaks especially after the winter and while you are there make sure your chimney is undamaged as these can be a major source of leaks from the roof.

Conclusion
