The Facts About ISO

You may be asking yourself, what is ISO? It has everything to do with the digital settings in a camera. It is a highly respected aspect in people who are dedicated to digital photography and consider it an art form.

You will need to keep yourself informed of many aspects of a digital camera including shutter speeds and the more technical aspects of photography including background and foreground ratio. It is actually some of these easy steps that assist a photographer in snapping incredible photos.

ISO settings also have a lot to do with the lighting and they are used to adjust the camera to the right capacity so that the lighting filters in. For example an ISO setting of about 100 would be the perfect setting if you were photographing a person very close to you or who was in a very well lit setting.

If you decide to place your subject in a more dimly lit atmosphere, you will then need to increase the ISO and place the subject in an indoor atmosphere or perform some soft and sultry night shots of them.

The best way to know how your camera’s ISO settings work is to try them out a few at a time and see what works best for you and produces the highest quality pictures. It is no promise to the photographer that higher ISO will automatically lend him or her nicer pictures.

The setting of 400 to 800 is the absolute perfect setting for those romantic evenings with just the two of you. If you want to capture a fast moving animal or object such as a train or a gazelle, above a 1600 setting seems best in that situation.

If you are a beginner when it comes to taking photos, learning the technical aspects of your camera is always your best bet. You will need to check and see if your camera manually or automatically sets its ISO. If it is indeed automatic, this means it can automatically adjust itself to whatever lighting it is in. If it doesn’t do so automatically, you will have to spend a bit more time on the manual setting.

As a beginner photographer or even a seasoned professional you will learn that lighting is truly your best friend no matter what you are snapping pictures of. The lighting of a picture can take a drab and grey picture and turn it into a bright and cheery masterpiece. As you learn more about photography, you will gain a keen sense and eye for what truly can become a beautiful photograph.
