Using Arc Floor Lamps in Your Home

Arc floor lamps are a special breed of floor lamps, and differ from the average model in their shape only. They’ve been around for decades, but only in the last twenty or thirty years have home interior design become such an important concern. To achieve a truly unique, warm and welcoming feel to your rooms, consider floor lamps as a possible solution.

Arc (or arch in another popular spelling) floor lamps come in many shapes and sizes, but they’re more often made of metal than any else material normally found in lamps. Metal standing lamps have their ups and downs whether they’re arched or standing straight.

The first thing you will notice that metal lamps are heavy. They’re not just a little thick-boned, but seriously bulky at times. It means that they will be hard to trip. A little knock or bump will not do it, which makes them safer for homes where children or pets are free to run around. It also makes them have a sturdy, rigid look. They almost feel authoritative. It’s like if they were saying ‘Look at me, I’m the most important piece here, and it’s going to stay that way.’

When a bigger knock trips the piece over, it’s going to demolish everything in its way, let that be a glass table or your favorite vase. According to Murphy it will be both. The weight also can be a disadvantage if you want to move a few objects around in your room, or carry the lamp somewhere.

Arc floor lamps also have the great feature that they come in multiple head variations. They can either be single-headed, or multi-headed in which case the switch is a turn-knob that switches all lamps on, off or in any possible fashion. This is why arc lamps are often superior to other floor lamps in the same price range; they can either give a dim background light, or shine with full brightness making the big lamps redundant.

Goose neck arc lamps are also possible, that can be bent in any way you like. It comes pretty handy if you like to read on your couch and the lamp just happens to be next to it.

Arc floor lamps are not the most prolific piece of furniture you will ever have in any room, but they’re just as good as any else lamp, if not better. If you’re missing that extra touch, which turns your living room from ‘just another room’ to ‘my favorite room’, a standing lamp may be the solution due to its great ability of doubling as a warm and friendly ambient light source.
