What is NLP?

NLP, or Neuro Linguistic Programming, is both art and science and can be described as an attitude and a methodology that leaves behind a trail of techniques.

NLP is an Attitude

Characterized by a sense of curiosity, experimentation and adventure NLP is the practical and pragmatic study of what produces all forms of human performance. It studies the ingredients of excellent performance, and seeks to provide ways of transferring the skills of excellence to others. The essence of NLP is expressed in the question “How is it possible to be outstanding?”

Methodology

Based on the presupposition that all behavior has a structure which can be modeled, learned, taught, and changed (re-programmed).

NLP studies the structure of how humans think and experience the world. Obviously, the structure of something so subjective does not lend itself to precise, statistical formulae but instead leads to models of how these things work.

That leaves behind a trail of techniques…

This ‘trail of techniques’ (created through modeling) is what is commonly known as NLP. They enable practitioners to organize information and perceptions in ways that allow them to achieve outstanding results.

From these models, techniques for quickly and effectively changing thoughts, behaviors and beliefs that limit a person have been developed. Here’s another way of looking at it.

Neuro

Our “Nervous System” through which experienced is received and processed via the five senses.

Linguistic

Our language and nonverbal communication systems through which are neural representations are coded, ordered, and given meaning.

Programming

The ability to organize our communication and neurological systems is to achieve specific desired goals and results.

NLP is:

• a set of procedures for personal development and performance improvement

• a model of effective communication

• is a way of modeling or developing a model of human behaviour

• a unique approach to personal change and development which combines:

• insight into how people think and behave

• dynamic personal change techniques

• advanced communication skills

How can you use it?

You can use it to get command over your feelings and control the way you think and therefore get better results.

And as you create empowering change in your mind you make a new Neuro-pathway, (like finding a short cut to a place you want to get to.) With a new pathway in your neurology- you can feel different, or think different about anything- get there quicker and faster. Just because you’ve taken the same pattern home, or the same route in your life for years doesn’t mean you have to keep doing it unless it’s working for you.

The best thing is that your brain learns things in seconds, and it can also unlearn if you choose you can kick open the door to the power of your unconscious. You can install the pathway to what you want -instead of using the old one. (Just like a short cut when you’ve found it you have more choices don’t you).

Yes and if that’s not enough change can happen rapidly if done by a skilled consultant or practitioner. In the late 70s this was all put together a number of techniques that made consistent breakthroughs was built a program called Nero Linguistic Programming It set of tools for success was born, it was popularized in the 80s by Tony Robins but many of these techniques begins with Milton Erikson.
